They are quite fun to paint if you have a good yellow

I won this guys in Git's paint a MW comp, he misses his squad though so needs to fly back to the US to be reunited.

I have done some more work on him today, I progressed with more layers of VA Flat Yellow and he's looking pretty cool now on the yellow side, I've also done his tranquility pattern, looks like he been attached by a spider Pics will follow in the next few days, I expect he will be finished by then as I have this week off work.

Onto my Warmachine models that I painted up they have been accepted into the Wamp comp so I can now post the pictures here as well. Acting as a hard core paint pimp these guys will be going up on ebay this weekend

I actually think I'm progressing with my painting by not having to paint to a deadline for tournaments and the fact that I can paint whatever I fancy now makes a big difference. The only thing that I'm not sure about is painting 40k stuff as its my favourite for models but that hardest to sell. Armies dont budge for ages due to the large costs involved same with vehicles, would people buy individual squads do you think?

Anyway pictures.................

Kommander Sorscha

Khador Juggernaught Warjack

Warjack pic is zoomable for a change....

on a roll at the moment

Nice work. Nice weathering/chipping.

would people buy individual squads do you think?

I have had success with selling painted squads (a DA tactical and a DA terminator squad) on ebay for OK money.
The individual models are harder to shift (like a librarian or company master, both from Dark Vengeance in my case), so you may sell off most the army and then be left with odd models... You may get lucky though...

Thanks Dr H, my problem is the other way round single models go quite quick and squads take a bit longer and armies,,,,well I havent managed to sell one of those yet

--------------------------------

Rightio its update time

Finished off the next in line on the Warmachine paint line, one squad to go and that's me out of Warmachine models.

Sooo lets meet Mr Destroyer, the pic in the gallery is much better for some reason.

Moving on to the model you're all actually here to see the MW Tranquillity vet, Git's will be basing him to match in with his new friends when he arrives.

I hope I've passed my painting yellow test

I also received my new painting book, Kevin Dallimore's Painting & Modelling Guide Master Class. I'll let you know what's its like I've only looked at the pictures so far. On first glance I'm not that impressed to be honest especially for how expensive it was, but we shall see. There's a few others I've seen as well that look interesting.

Now its new camera time I've been trying to get some good photos with it but bare in mind this is all under normal or lamp light, haven't seen any real daylight today!

So all looking ok apart from I have an issue with reds for some reason they kind of come out orange as per the last picture which is a Khador Man O War I'm currently working on, he's the same colour red as the warjacks. Any ideas as its really bugging me.

Cheers

------

Not much to update you with from the past weekend instead of painting I decided to play with myself, the results can be found here for the brave http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/571906.page

So its a new year so I think it would be a good idea for some goals and the like so here we go.

Things that one must accomplish this year.

Make/buy more scenery for batreps.
Build (and paint) my Eldar army up to 900 points minimum
Finally start my Exorcists
Finish painting my khador Man O War unit.
Paint my Dwarf Man O War fleet when it arrives

Things that I would like to do but may not accomplish

Finish my World Eaters army to 1750 points
Finish my Death Guard army to 1750 points
Collect the other half of my Skaven fleet where possible and paint
Become a better painter
Collect and paint a Cygnar starter force and learn the rules

That should do for now, I've got loads more that I want to do but these are the most important.

Cheers Yggs I'll update it with the next turn hopefully tomorrow night, it was going to be tonight but my computer had a melt down so had to sort that out.

I don't normally do mid week updates but with my new camera I can take pics when stuff happens instead of having to wait for the weekend to put the batteries on charge, modern technology is so nice

So here's a pic of what I got in the post today, yep an entire Dwarf Man O War fleet. Looking forward to painting these up should be fun.

Oh and Git's Mr MW should be well on his way by now, I packed him with lots of insulation to keep him warm when he gets to your end

-----------------

Not much to report back on today. I've made the second half of my Mantis Warrior squad and finished off my batrep which is linked somewhere above

I've also finished the first Khador Man O War although his pigments are still drying so you wont see him till next weekend.

Sorry progress is slow at the moment with work eating up all my free time

Here's the promised pic of the finished Man O War unit that I finished last weekend.

Still having a few issues with taking pics of red minis but I'm getting there.

I also took a shot of the completed Khador force. I expect there will be other additions later on though.

I have started painting the other half of the MW squad, nothing to show yet and I'm working tomorrow so maybe next weekend if your lucky.

I don't really have much else to report back on this weekend, I do seem to have a Man O War ship fetish at the moment though They will appear in the blog soon enough

Have you tried using a different colour background for your photos to see if that helps with the "red" issue.
They look fine there, but only you know if it matches RL.

That's a good idea Dr H I hadn't thought of trying a different colour back drop. The photos make the red look soft and a bit pinker than they really are.

Yeah I'll try Graven the last few were zoomable is it the Warjacks you want close ups of?

Miss Dee wrote:Lookin fine there sweety xx

Thanks Miss Dee, I hope you like the minis as well!

------------------------------

Soooo another weekend is upon us and I just had enough time to finish the rest of the Mantis Warrior combat squad. I'm really really happy with how the Grav Gun dudes head came out I'm really starting to get the hang of painting heads, going to move on to arms next or even bodies, I prefer those but I'm all out of female ones for now....

Pic bomb my new camera takes better photos which means I have to paint better

The squad is 200 points spot on which makes them perfect for a Kill Team.

I've got two things next on the painting table which I'll be working on at the same time, the first is to paint another Kill Team for my Dark Wolves to oppose the MW's in a bat rep and the second is my Dwarf Man O War fleet.

I'm thinking of doing the Dwarf Fleet in a dark blue colour, maybe with a bit of damage on the prow's from all the raminig.

I started painting my Man-O-War Dwarf fleet this weekend not used to looking at things that small.... but they are great little models.

This is my test model a Nautilus, the picture isn't the best but you kind of get the idea. I'm going to gloss the port holes when the whole fleet is painted and I did paint every rivet but they don't all show in the photo.

While doing that I've also built the first two marines of a new Kill Team for my Skyrar's Dark Wolves

I magnetised the normal guys back pack just in case when the new codex comes out having a squad of jump packing Wolf Guard wont cost 5 million points

Just a small update today without any pics I'm afarid.

I've just signed myself up for a 40k tournament at the begining of April, it looks like the Dark Wolves will be out in force again. I have a few new things planned so you can welcome some 40k back into the blog again

It's going to be a bit tight on the painting front though, as soon as I payed work asked me to work the next two weekends

Interesting pics will follow soon once models and new toys arrive

Today sees the completion of the Nautilus squadron for Man-O-War, if that's what you call a unit of ships

I still need to add some runes so I can differentiate between them but I think that will come a bit later.

While I was doing these I also started work on Mr Helbrecht of Black Templar fame.

I've only been working on his cloak so far. I've got the reds down and wanted to try and do a velvet look on the back, this is what he looks like so far.

The picture should be zoomable in the gallery, I need to tidy the red trim of his cloak on the back still.

I'm trying to go after this picture with the painting style.

But the Dwarfs and Helbrecht have gone on hold for more Dark Wolves for their next tournament at the start of April. I'm currently working on a Wolf Guard squad in power armour this time, they are currently at their boring stage of Grey so I didnt bother taking shots.

I'm not sure how quickly I'm going to be able to push these guys out as I'm working next weekend so might have to try and do some painting in the evenings. Also required for my army list is some barricades and two Vengeance Weapon Batterys which I need to pick up soon.

Going to be very busy on the painting front in March.

I picked up some Barricades off ebay last week they came pre-painted and looked like this on arrival

Well I had to make them mine so got out my bits box and weathering powders and they ended up like this.

I think they came out quite well in the end.

I'm still working on my Wolf Guard squad for the Dark Wolves but they wont be finished until next weekend now.

Righto me hearties tis update time and I've got my 40k head really screwed on this week.

I finished the Wolf Guard squad this weekend they were quite a joy to paint, I have missed a few small bits that I noticed from the pictures so will do them another day. Oh and the OSL on the weapons doesn't look that bad in real life it looks like the reflection on the armour.

The squads kind of a mixed bag some for a Kill Team and some of the guys are for the tournament. Jump pack guy will also make a good Wolf Lord.

The pics are fully zoomable in the gallery as well my photo skills are getting better with the new camera!

Next up is the final piece for the tournament, some very big guns.

I'm hoping to get these knocked out pretty quick as I could be working every day (including weekends ) now to the tournament at the start of next month.

Other news I finally got round to assembling my Guardians I picked up from Graven a while ago, just need to add their back bits. I also did a bit of undercoating the weekend as well while it was nice. My painting table is being taken over by Eldar at the moment

Although it looks like Fabious Bile could be in for a good time

So yea Eldar coming out my ears, I also just won another batch of 26 Guardians on ebay bringing up the count to 40 to paint. I don't have any support weapons though so not quite sure how thats going to work. I might run them without not sure yet. I think 30 will be Biel-Tan and then the other 10 will go to another craftworld project for later. I'm also going to include a unit of LotD with them, It's very tempting to use my Fire Hawk as a test model, quite fitting considering....

I've also been working out whats needed for my Death Guard and World Eaters to bring them upto 1750 points and my Sisters to the same, really tempted to get the Sisters a Knight.

Also picked up a Librarian for my MW's as well he's in the post as we speak hopefully.

Got loads more ideas floating round in my head but will save them for another update

This weekend saw the start of the Vengeance Weapon Batteries they are all glued together and primed and Sunday I started painting the base for the first one and oh how boring they are to paint I truly feel sorry for Ramos now and I'm not even doing gold on mine!

There's nothing to show yet which makes it even worse after slaving over them all weekend.

I'm so worried about not finishing them by the end of the month (didn't realise how big they were) that I'll be doing bits to them during the evenings to try and help them along

So instead while glue and the primer was drying I did the gold on Helbrecht which I do have a pic of for you. What looks like a reflection off the armour is actually silver highlights, I painted the gold the same way as I did the Raptors at the very start of this blog (but with extra silver highlighting), which seems like years ago now

Thats all from me this week.

.......Actually its not I need to rant as well those Eldar Guardians I picked up from ebay arrived this week, they were just packed in an envelope so as you may have guessed they got rather crushed lots of broken wrists ankles and back bits so I had to send them back to try and get some money back, there goes my good deal of the week.

I'll have to pick some nice new ones up a later point now, they were poorly glued together so I couldn't have done much with them anyway, poor things.

Must apologise for the lack of activity lately work has been kicking my ass badly all I've been doing when I get a spare five minutes is sleeping and slowly but sure adding the to Vengeance Weapon Battery's.

Well they are finally finished, they took ages and were very boring I must say so without further ado here's some big guns.

And a size comparison

Mr Helbrecht is also nearly done everything apart from his base and backpack, I did plan on finishing his backpack today but I ended up working for longer than expected last night so haven't really done much, I also need to pick something up for his base as I want my Black Templars to be Jungle based.

I've also been feeding my rulebook addiction over the last few weeks as well from stuff I've sold on ebay, so you can expect some Infinity amongst other new ranges on my blog at some point in the future.

Nearly forgot to put the picture of my pond I pocked up as well from ebay, I think it will fit in nicely on my gaming area just need to pick up some buildings which I'm planing on doing this week. I'm thinking of getting the Deadzone set as they dont look too bad for the price.

For me its tournament time next weekend with the Dark Wolves, so next update will include an army shot from the tournament as I don't have space at the moment and some ranting on how badly I did

Next up on my list of things to paint is to finish Helbrecht and then I have all sorts of random models looking at my painting table but I plan on doing some more ships for my Dwarf Man O War fleet and I have a librarian for my Mantis Warriors all made up and ready for some undercoat.

That's all from me for this week

Well not quite as I also was going to say I saw a great game on the net the other day called By Fire and Sword is a 15mm historic wargame based in the 17th century, if any one has played it I'd be interested to know what you think. I'm also trying not to pick up any Darklands miniatures until the rulebook is out but its getting harder each time I check out their weekly update in the news and rumours section, damn those models are the best I've ever seen.

An update from the weekend just gone.

I took my Skyrar's Dark Wolves out for a 1750 tournament, must admit didn't really enjoy myself but we will come to that.

Game 1 vs Imperial Guard - First game of the day and I went up against an mech Guard list. Guard went first and his manticore wiped out one of my vengeance weapon battery's 3/4 of one Long Fang squad and half of the other one. Then in my turn Logan and his Melta drop pod squad really wiffed on their firing and failed to destroy any tanks when they landed. It kind of went down hill from there. Although I had loads of bad luck the guy I was playing was one of my regulars tournament opponents so we had a good laugh, it was his turn to win anyway

Game 2 vs Taudar hmm all I'm going to say is two riptides and a Wraith Knight, I had no long range ap2 weaponry. Yeah you can guess the rest my ass was his. My only positive about this game was I killed his wraith knight in close combat with my Thunder Wolves, the other unit I killed was a squad of Kroot.....

Game 3 vs Necrons Bottom table for the last game against Necrons I would like to point out they were using their dice pot as a monolith umm like yeah whatever Logan and his drop podding melta squad killed it on the first turn they arrived I then proceeded to table them. My casualties were 7 Grey Hunters, It was too much of stomping for my liking even though I won it was like game two in reverse.

This win did bump me right back up the placings though so it looked like I didnt really do that bad

Some very nicely painted armies this time round though I got pics of the best apart from one of a pure Wolf army, it had no scouring units and it did really well was most impressed shame I didn't get to see it in action.

So here we go with a bad shot of my army first!

I voted for the cream Dark Angel army above which one best painted army.

I walked away with best painted objective markers, the Dark Wolves have never not won best objective in all the tournies I've used them in where this prize is present.

Next tournament is in June not sure if I'm going to go or not yet, I need to play something different so I'll be looking at touching my sisters up and seeing if I can pull enough Mantis Warriors together to bring them to 1750 as an allied detachment. I'll need to re-base the MW's though to match the Mars type effect the Sisters have going on.

There is also the possibility that I'll be taking the Dark Wolves out next month for a huge 4000 point game, still to be confirmed though.

Sounds like kind of a bummer Gir... sorry to hear that. Great that you came away with the objective prize though!

Would you mind a suggestion on the painting of your dark wolves (just one little thing)? I think you need to make the center of your plasma core about two shades lighter... so it looks more like blue-tinted white rather than blue. That's coming from Major_Tom11's class on color theory at Adepticon. Think it'd help sell the OSL and make the plasma mini really pop!

Thanks Gits your right on the plasma it really does need to go a bit brighter with the white, just a bit worried on how to tackle it with a paint brush so I went with the safe option.

Next time I do some plasma weaponry I'll try and take it to the next level

Oh and my painting table has something half painted in yellow on it currently that you might be interested to see.....you will have to wait for the weekend though as its not ready for showing just yet.

A small update from me today as I've left it too late and am very tired

So some pics for you to have a look at and I will be back later with some more interesting things of what I'm working on next.

So we have

Helbrecht who is finally finished been working on this guy on and off now for ages.

Then we move swiftly into Xenos territory with a Biel Tan Warlock

And then again back into safe hands with a Mantis Warrior in tranquillity pattern from a Destroyer Squad I'm working on.

I went a step extra on the jump pack OSL Git's

I'll be back tomorrow.....

Thanks both I appreciate the feedback, I seem to have scared everyone off since I stopped doing Chaos Space Marine stuff.

So onwards and upwards I'm on holiday at the moment so things are good and the hobby time is starting to kick in quite nicely.

The first task of my holiday is to complete some terrain.

I picked up this little bundle from ebay this month as a good deal.

I was quite eager to see what I could do with the Deadzone scenery. So yesterday and today I've been sawing it off the sprue and glueing it all together. I found it a right pain as some of the clips didn't fit properly and there were no where near enough in the box so some parts are just glued together. Reminds me why I hate making my own terrain so much.

So its all glued together now and ready to be undercoated tomorrow, I like the idea of doing it white like on the box but really cant be bothered with it as I just want to get back to painting models. So its going to be undercoated black with some red markings I think and some weathering hopefully that should do the job.

Here's where we are at the end of today

If I get anywhere decent tomorrow I put some more pics up for you

I have also decided not to base my scenery as it makes it a lot harder to store and I don't have much space.

Yeah was a bit disappointing but I've painted them up now and I'm quite liking how they turned out, I went for an easy scheme in the end

So here's what I did yesterday.

Today I did a little Kill Team batrep which I will write up tomorrow hopefully.

Then its on to some Man o War Dwarf ships I think.

Speaking of which here is my batrep from yesterdays Kill Team battle.

A bit late but this was Saturdays update.

I was planning on finishing the Dwarf Man O war fleet but only managed a squadron (not sure if thats the right Naval term) of Monitors

Cant believe how long they took to paint as they are so tiny but I do like how they turned out.

The next squadron is nearly finished now as well, hopefully they should be done today all being well.

Oh and I'm off work all this week as well so I'm hoping to get some work done on my Empire fleet as well, I need to make masts and sails for them though which is going to be interesting!

I'm still struggling to pick up models for my Skaven and Plague Fleet, I will hold off painting them until I have a full force for each which could be years at this rate

I know, I know not much love for Man O War

Well here's some more

The second unit of Monitors is finished

I also managed to finish off the three Ironclads as well although they dont look as good.

Most of you will be glad to know that only leaves the two Dreadnoughts left which I'll start on this afternoon, I'm not finding them very exciting to paint either but never mind nearly done

I also had a few distractions to help me get through the Dwarf ships

The first is a Malifaux Westral mini which I tried painting weetystyle.

The second is the second Vindicator for my World Eaters and yep its going to have a flashing gun barrel like the other one!

I'm be going back to slow painting mode after the weekend again as my holiday has finished

So a quick run down of my current painting list order

Man O War - Dwarf Dreadnoughts
Mantis Warrior - Destroyer Squad
Mantis Warrior - Librarian
Man O War - Empire Fleet
World Eaters - Vindicator

Of course there's lots more but they aren't in any particular order

That's all from me for now hopefully another update should follow on Sunday

Miss Dee wrote:I know where that cannon on the vindicator is from .... I have one just like it...

Oh I bet you do Miss Dee

------------------------------------------------

Some more minis completed today well two in fact which are the last two of the Dwarf Man O War fleet the Dreadnoughts.

They are the biggest of the Dwarf ships.

Here's a couple of shots of the entire fleet they just fitted on a piece of A4 paper.

I'l quite proud of them now they are finished, the Empire fleet will be quicker to paint but I have to make sails and masts for those so will be interesting.

Next weekend we go back to Space Marines

In other news I heard that Infinity will be getting a new core rulebook at the end of the year, I haven't read the current ones I bought a few months ago yet, really hate it when that happens.

Also the guys behind the Saga game have just released a Gladiator game called Jugular which looks quite good, don't have much info on it I'm afraid though. It is card based rather than dice and is played on a 8*8 square board.

Hi All

Just letting you all know that my blog may be very quiet for a while, for some reason my inspiration has dwindled away to nothing on the painting front.

Some of it is due to wanting expensive FW toys that I cant justify spending money on, that and the immanent release of 7th edition hasn't helped much either.

I'm pulling out for a break now before I get the urge to bail out totally which happened before in my last hobby (used to be an event organiser and weekly writer for a Magic the Gathering Online website).

So I'm just going to be chilling for the next three or so months, going back to playing some games on my Xbox 360 I'm about 5 years out of date so new games for me cost about £3 on ebay

I'm also playing MTGO again as well as a casual player.

Saying all that I could be back sooner than later, I have some Cyrx I want to paint as I'm quite interested in Warmachine after watching a cool intro video on YouTube. I'm still buying miniatures so its not like I'm missing out on stuff just putting a hold on GW stuff until 7th comes round I think.

It all feels a bit random at the moment, but I will still be on dakka checking out all of your blogs so I don't want any slacking going on

I think 7th is going to be one of those things that will move us into the Magic or D&D mindset of playing different formats. Not just Unbound or Battle Brothers (or whatever), but I think we will see folks stay with 6th, and maybe even go back to 5th.

Anyways, do hope to see you back. The variety you show in here is always fun.

I think people are just scared of change as you say they are probably just adding in some new formats, I'm expecting to see Kill Team in 7th as well.

I could never paint the same thing all the time I don't know how people paint whole company's in the same colour, would drive me insane.

Cheers Solar, I'm hoping it wont be too long.

Just ordered my second attempt at getting the right thickness of cork for my Cyrx bases 1mm was way too thin so I'm going for the opposite end and have just ordered some 6mm. Also put in an order for some sand bags off a guy on ebay, been waiting for him to cast some new ones for a few months for my Eldar basing.

Still got my finger in the pie

Hows a week?

----------------------

Well I'm still kind of doing model related stuff

Yeah I cant keep away, although I'm taking it real easy at the moment.

I had to varnish my Dwarf Fleet this weekend as I didn't want to leave them in case they got chipped or dusty.

So with that done I still had a bit of time left before lunch (this was Saturday) so I thought hmm well I'll do a little bit of painting while I'm here and started on my Mantis Warrior Librarian he's going to be joining the Destroyer Squad so I reflected the tranquillity pattern in his robes I got an interesting effect with the blue as well so let me know what you think. It has a very pearlescent look to it in sunlight.

Then after getting that far there was a knock on the, the postie had a small parcel. It was a very exciting parcel to some and very "what is this and why?" to others as my partner opened it. Some people will never understand the excitement of getting a small sheet of cork in the post, I cant see why not but never mind...

So I busied myself will pulling bits off and generally getting carried away, I had been waiting for the right thickness for ages after a failed attempt last month.

I then preceded to base my Cryx and much joy was had, they are ready to be primed now

That's as far as I got but its an update none the less

Hopefully if the weather is ok I should have them primed and may do a bit more to the libby as he's kind of looking a bit rude with just his bottom half painted at the moment!

The blue ah yes all Vallejo

Base coat of Model Air Metallic Artic Blue
Then highlight with a 50/50 mix of Model Air Metallic Artic Blue & Gun
The final highlight of Model Air Metallic Gun
I then finished by painting over it with Transparent Blue, not really had much use for it before but it worked out quite nice.

Thanks Ygg's, well the hiatus never really lasted very long.

I was going to do the long version why the hiatus didn't last but had problems with my image upload software tonight so had to download something new and work out how to use to bring you pics, although its now a lot later than expected

So the super quick version is I really wanted to try Warmachine so had to get another starter set painted up which I managed to do all in a weekend as below, really enjoyed doing these guys the bases need a tad touching up as I forgot that but they are all ready for battle.

I ordered my copy of 40k 7th edition today and I'm actually quite looking forward to it with the so called unbound rules I'll be able to play my CSM again!!

So here's the pics of the Cryx battlegroup, enjoy and I'll catch up with you later

A touch of verdigris on the brass wouldn't go amiss Perhaps a soupcon of rust on the stacks - but not as essential as the verdigis in my mind.

And I like how your idea of a break involves ordering the new edition and painting up more models than I've probably finished this year

Keep on chillin'

Rust pigments, with their orange/red, would make a great contrast with the dark green...

But the advice from monkeytroll & Miss Dee also seem relevant !

So just for you guys and gals I ventured into my local GW last week and picked up some Nihilakh Oxide and also some Blood for the Blood God while I was there as I'm sure thats going to come in handy.

Yesterday I finished off those jacks with said Oxide and weather powders and they ended up looking like this, I didnt go overboard just a touch hear and there.

Bonejacks

Slayer

Also while I was painting I painted my World Eaters Vindicator as well as you do.... It just so happens that the Oxide paint came in handy once again

I was quite busy most of the day today but did get a chance to try Warmachine, and OMG how different is that game to 40k

I have a small batrep to put up and I'll let you know my feelings on how it went then, I'm also going to try out the new 7th edition 40k rules tomorrow so expect a batrep from that as well.

until then keep forging those narratives

Jacks look even better with a touch of weathering

Just a touch here and there is normally all that's required.

Nice job on the vindi too!

No edge highlights I'm afraid for the Vindi it has to fit in with the rest of the World Eaters tanks which don't have any.

Cheers Ygg's, should have a batrep up by the end of next weekend from my first try at 7th today where you can see the Vind's in action.

Must say I really do like 7th the Maelstrom missions are quite fun.

No painting today as above, was playing but I have finished my batrep for my first ever game of Warmachine which you can find below.

Nice batrep dude! :-) models look simply amazing when playing a game and the quality is so high, your Helvalkerie? is so damn cool!

also liking the Cryx stuff, something i've not really been inspired by but I certainly like your take! the corrosion looks better on them and the Chaos Vindi is just wow! pretty creepy stuff and the writing appears wet blood? niiiiice! :-)

Cheers Damo glad your liking the batrep, it is quite cool to see all your models in action on the table.

Yeah that is wet blood on the vindi, nice and fresh like the blood god prefers

Warmachine minis are a bit hit and miss I find and their plastic is awful compared to GW's stuff so many hard to get off mold lines.

Its round to update day for me but I'm a bit lacking this week I'm afraid.

My camera software crashed the other week and hasn't worked since so I've replaced it with what is working out to be an ever better program and its free Picasa by Google, its very good makes the colours look like they should from my camera. Makes me so much happier.

Although there is a flaw, it means my pics are larger and a lot better quality so you can see all the mistakes.....

Speaking of which here's my Guardians from the weekend.

I've nearly finished my MW Libby as well just needs basing so you may have another update during the week depends if I get round to it

There's lots more Guardians to go as well but I'm trying to break them up between other models as I really hate batch painting.

Cheers Reaper Man nice to have you drop in

------------------------

This guy came out a lot better than expected, he was looking really dark at one point when I only had the armour painted. I then painted what I think is my best head so far which really helped brake the mini up, that and the very brightly coloured Force Sword.

let me know what you think.

Mantis Warrior Librarian

Not sure whats up next on the painting table I've still got four members of my Destroyer squad to paint and another batch of guardians, I'll see what catches my attention the most this weekend.

---------------------------

Not much done this weekend I'm afraid, its well too hot in the room where I do my painting.

I managed to do my first Wargalley for my Man O War Empire fleet, was quite quick to paint although I had to hand make the masts and sails which took a good few hours today, this fleet is going to take a lot of time. I think I have 11 masts to do

Picture is a bit dark and you cant see the highlights on the deck but they are there

Yeah I cant freehand but I tried, it's supposed to be a scale as I want the fleet to be from Nuln, yeah I know Nuln isn't near the sea but

I also got the base coat down on the MW Destroyer squad, now its the hard part bringing the yellow all the way up to a nice bight colour like the other guy I did.

Thats all from me today.

Thanks Nash, working on the Empire fleet now

inmygravenimage wrote:Lovely work. Lmk if you'd like some uncharted seas dwarves to play with!

Thanks for the offer Graven but I've enough Dwarf ships for more than 1000 points worth now.

------------------------------------------------------

Update time, I've been really slacking lately keeping things updated, I kind of run out of steam and lost all my motivation. Butttt I didn't stop just carried on tinkering away in the back ground.

Had a few issues with my computer which didnt help it doesn't like the heat which is normally ok in the UK But we are actually having a warm spell so it starts to overheat like a dog on heat! Seems to be ok now, it rained today where I am

So I had a chance to upload my pics I've been taking over the last few weeks.

I've mainly been working on my Empire Man O War fleet.

I also tided my painting area

I made, based and undercoated some Bane Thralls for my Cryx army for Warmachine. This is them just before I added the texture to their bases. They are now in the box of undercoated stuff for rainy days/winter when I cant prime outside. I need to add some more minis to this before the weather changes as its a bit empty at the moment there's some Swooping Hawks and a few guardians still left in there.

Next we move on to the Man O War Empire fleet.

Here they are al undercoated red ready for paint, this must have been three weeks ago.

I then started on the base brown for the wood and the black parts along the sides and cannons.

I'm now at the stage where all the ships are painted. Saturday was spent cutting all the masts for the fleet which was fun

Today I finished off the sails for the two wargalleys. I was hoping to have the fleet ready to play when I have some time off at the end of July but I cant see it happening as its takes ages doing the sails and I have 21 left to do.....

My other fleets are doing quite well I'm only one unit away from completing a Dark Elf fleet and two away from completing my Nurgle fleet. I've not seen any Skaven ships for months on ebay though so I've still just got half a fleet of those. Once I have all the models for a fleet they move onto my painting table.

I was also inspired by PDH and Neil101's thread for their Chaos Warbands and decided for a laugh to roll up some gifts for a few World Eater Lords I need.

The first got enormously fat and mane of hair while the second got Vampiric something or rather. Not the easiest thing to convert with Space Marines but never mind.

This is my fat dude before and currently in progress, I've since added a number of washes to both of their bronze armour parts and also some verdigris.

His horns got a bit mucked up with my rubbish liquid lumpy green stuff but I have a plan for those.

Then we have the vampiric dude

They are both looking much better as I've one a bit more to them since. Yeah I know they look terrible in the pics but they will be good honest

I also rolled some gifts for a Nurgle sorcerer as well, he will make a showing a bit further down the line when I revisit my Death Guard.

I think thats it for me a rather long post for a change with amazing not much in

Last thought of the day I also did some blacking out on my MW destroyer Squad, not ready for doing the work on the yellow yet.

Back again this weekend with another update.

it seems some of my gallery images are showing as broken image links tonight so I'm hoping my new ones will be ok for you.

I finished my Empire Greatship for Man O War, the freehand isnt the best as thats something I'm no good at The middle bottom sail is supposed to be two crossed cannons, the sail you cant see at the back has a shield on with some squiggles etc.

I also started work on the next unit of Wolfships, they have lots of sails

Moving up in scale to something a bit bigger I also finished the two lords for my World Eaters, thy look a bit dodgy up this close as you can see the blending but never mind.

-

I have more still, not bad for one weekend but that's all the finished stuff.

I started the blending up of the next Mantis Warrior as well, I think I'm going to do them one at a time as they take ages due to the amount of thin layers of yellow to get them to the right shade.

And lastly for those with eagle eyes, there are a few new minis in the back ground of the last shot for a project that's a bit further down the road.

Some Black Templars

I couldn't leave them as they were the metal ones....

That's all from me this weak, happy painting

Thanks for the vote of confidence on the sails, I do try really hard with my freehand

The Khornate SM's are all made from various SM parts apart from the arm with the Axe which might be from a Marauder, I cant remember as I got it from a bits site.

Miss Dee wrote:I got warmachine mkII with Cryx and Cygnar .

Sounds good Miss Dee, I look forward to seeing you pain them , I have some Cygnar still boxed up must dig them out.

Actually you might be able to answer a question for me How easy is it to combine Hordes with Warmachine I don't really want to buy another rule book but know they are compatible some how. I think I know how the magic works as it mentioned in the Warmachine book but how about other things like their equivalent of jacks.

I'm really liking the new Jaga-Jaga mini and though it would be good to have some crocs running round.

For those that havent seen her

Spoiler:

I'm also quite excited about the new Infinity starter set that's coming out Operation Icestorm.

I'm really looking forward to painting some non GW minis I'm just finding it hard hard pulling away.

Cheers Nash, I find yellow ok to paint you just need to do lots of thin layers.

---------------

No update this weekend I'm afraid had some normal life stuff to do and just found it too hot to sit at a desk and paint so I ended up playing some Magic the Gathering online to waist away the hours and my money....but it meant I could play down stairs with the windows and doors open so it was nice and cool.

Oh I just remembered I did do something kind of hobby related, I backed my first Kickstarter for the new Wolsung expansion. I only went in for the rule book though, I'll pick the minis up at retail, there are some fantastic models coming out for it though.

I also pre-ordered the new Ultra Street Fighter IV for my 360 cant wait to get it in a few weeks. I've loved Street Fighter ever since I was a kid, I'm not such a good player now days though

Well things are moving sort of forward on the painting front. I've finshed the next unit of Wolfships for the Empire Man o War fleet and another MW yesterday but the curse of technology took over and my PC has finally given up its soul to the dark mechanicus

So that means no pics for a while until I get a new one sorted out, on a possitive note it happened just after I ordered the new Infinity Operation Icestorm starter so I have something to look forward to at the end of the month.

Painting will continue through these dark times....may the Emperor bring us light

I'm back

Well its been a hard few weeks getting the new computer all up and ready but its finally done, haven't had much hobby time what with that and working all the hours under the sun.... and moon recently.

But and its a big but I have this week off!!!! unless I get called in but that shouldn't happen. This is my second attempt at my summer holiday the first was cancelled, the weather forecast is looking good for this week with rain and rain true British weather

So I'm hoping to get some painting and a bit of playing in. To be honest my hobby mojo has gone down to a real low again at the moment, I think its due to not having anyone to play so have no targets to get things painted for. There is a 40k event due towards the end of October not sure If I'm up for it to be honest its getting really hard to keep up with all the codexs that are coming out, my Space Wolves need both of the new ones really for my Logan wing but thats a big investment and has kind of put me off, well done GW. I will give them a spin later in the week if I get time so see how the new basic codex handles.

Painting wise, hmm I finished both units of Wolfships for my Man O War Empire fleet, so thats the whole fleet finished now

I even tried them out against the Dwarves yesterday so there will be a sort of batrep going up this week.

An update on the other fleets I'm collecting.

Dark Elves - Only need one unit of Doomweavers, unfortunately I nearly had them last week but was out bid by someone who wanted them ALOT more than I did on ebay.

Nurgle Fleet - Only two units left for these, not bad going really.

Skaven - I haven't seen anything for these in along long time

Other news I'm still painting my Mantis Warriors Destroyer squad, these guys have taken months and there's only five of them, 3 left to finish which is my task for this week.

I painted another mini yesterday but haven't had good enough light to take a pic yet, but I'm not going to spoil what it is.

More will follow shortly

Onwards and upwards though.

Tonight I bring to you the next squad for my Mantis Warriors, the Tranquillity Pattern Destroyer Squad. Technically they cant have these as they are pre-heresy but you should never trust a MW, once touched by Huron......

So you saw the fist guy what must have been months ago ago now here's the rest of the squad and a group pic at the end.

This is a very naughty MW equipped with Rad Missiles dont let the Inquisition see.

Cheers guys Yellow isn't the easiest of colours to paint, I don't think my Mantis Warriors will have any more in tranquillity pattern camo.

For those that are interested I've just written up my batrep for a Man O War game which you can find here.

I think you got everything MT

I'm not sure after painting those destroyers that I'll ever want to do yellow marines again full stop, they took sooooo long, I do think they look good though

I've another batrep for you from last week, just a quick Warmachine one again which you can find below.

Not much else to report, there are a bunch of Cryx Bane Thralls sat on my painting table ready for the weekend though.

Back again this week. I've signed up for a local tournament and will be taking the Wolves yet again so expect some more woofers next month and something big

I cant start on the Wolves until I get paid so not sure what you're going to get for the rest of the month. The WM (why does WM now mean Whalemusic and not Warmachine to me now ) Bane Thralls on my painting desk at the moment aren't progressing very well other things keep getting in the way.

Like this young lady who was going to be the leader of my Eldar Guardians but got kit bashed into a Culexus Assassin for the up coming tournament.

Not the best but she fits the role quite well.

Top secret project time for my tournament in November.

Yesterday I received this little bag in the post from Forge World

Without any messing around it was unbagged and primed in the same day.

And now its looking like this, the golds not finished as my liquid gold is no longer liquid gold its more gunk gold as for some reason all the alcohol has dried up . So I had to order some more which will hopefully arrive in time for next weekend.

Oh and I need to order something for the shoulder pads to go on, hmm I wonder what that will be. Although sadly you will have to wait till the end of the month for that bad boy.

Knight on!!!

So am I Solar

Here's a few more bits I finished over the weekend

Nice and blurry

I also painted my mini for the 3rd Annual Nerdcademy award painting comp
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/615288.page

Here's my entry unpainted, the idea of the contest is to paint a model Sin City style so black -> white with as many shades of grey as you can fit in between, now that I think of that does suit Nerdy oh and a spot colour as well.

Lelith Hesperax

Finished pics will follow on hmm maybe Thursday when I get some time to pull all the images into a nice montage.

While I'm waiting to order my Knight I decided to crack on with some Cryx Bane Thralls, nothing to show yet but I'll hopefully have progress to show on the weekend.

My current dilemma is whether to partake in the latest Dark Lands kickstarter the minis are amazing, its just a case of paying upfront for something your not going to get to next summer.

Sadly no progress on anything this weekend.

Late on Friday afternoon I was told I had to work Saturday night what made it worse was I had to get driven to another office to do it so I got picked up at 11pm Saturday night and didn't get home till 06:30 Sunday morning and managed 3 1/2 hours sleep. As I'm writing this my bodily functions are slowly fading into nothing

So Saturday I just chilled out and today I was a zombie, going to be interesting at work tomorrow I think I might just curl up and sleep in the corner.

But I do have some pics for you I have my finished Lelith Hesperax for NF09's painting comp, I'm really happy how she turned out and am wondering what a full Dark Eldar would look like painted this way..

And also something the postman delivered on Friday last week, I haven't had time to even look at it yet but I'm quite excited.

A lot of delayed orders were posted on Saturday so more box's will be turning up this week, its quite cool I have including the below about 3 months of hobby stuff on its way.

I'm off for some so will catch you all when I'm back to normal.

Cheers Littletower I'm fully recharged now and ready for some good old painting time.

------------------------------

Supply drops have been good this week, I got the below on Friday and not pictured my Knight on Saturday.

So we have lots of things for new projects in this bundle.

The Malifaux rules and The Latigo Posse looks like a fun game.

The Shattered Sword starter set for Relic Knights.

Some Skeletons for Kings of War, I have plans of getting into Fantasy, I already have the rules and they are really nice and easy to learn.

Lastly two box of Thunder Wolves to go along with my Knight for the tournament next month. I need to finish painting all these by the first weekend of next month which is a huge task at the rate I've been (not) painting over the last few months. I did a grand total off two miniatures last month

So the Knight is first on the list for painting, I assembled him over Saturday/Sunday, there's a lot more to the kit than I first thought took a fare few hours.

This is him assembled without FW extras

Then a shot after he was primed for WhaleMusic to show how nicely the pads fit on, these were just pushed into place, all the parts are a perfect fit.

Today I hit him with my paintbrush, yeah hand painting this bad boy is something else!!!

So this is how far I got today, just finished applying the gold base, reds are done blues are nearly done just need to put some ink in the recesses on top. I don't think he's coming along too badly.

My only concern is I'm taking him as part of my Dark Wolves army for the tournament but he's actually for my Sisters of Battle army so I need to base him one way but be able to quickly add some weathering powders to turn him back after.

No I've not seen many painted either, kids these days play with unpainted models which is the problem

Solar_lion wrote:Good Progress. Take some Battle shots so we can see him in action!

Will do Solar, his first battle will be at the tournament next month unless I can get a practice game in first but that requires that I have everything painted. I also need to read the rules for all the stuff in the army, I'm sure 19 models isn't many for 1750 points.....

I forgot to mention yesterday that I'm off this week so painting is full steam ahead at the moment.

Here's update two on the Knight its not a great pic but you get the idea, lots of cool bits you cant see as well

More tomorrow....

thanks EyeamRai, I'm sure your wife would understand, I made sure I bought mine something nice so she had something as well

-------------------------

I had nothing to show last weekend and the Wolves are still in progress, so close now just the black trim round the bases and a few other little bits and they shall be done.

I do have my side project finished that I've been tinkering with over the last month between my main projects, well I say finished I've finished the first half of the unit

Some Warmachine Bane Thralls, the funny thing is you cant use them in units of 5 only 6 or 10 which is odd.

I hope to finish the wolves tomorrow night but wont have any daylight for pics now till next weekend.

I've also put some money into yet another game, I really don't know when I'll learn but then thats half the fun. I've ordered some miniatures for a game called Darklands its fantasy based using some of the best sculpters currently out there. Really on edge about having to paint them though and I picked up some with lots of skin which I find the hardest to paint

I'll take some pics when they arrive. Its going to be a bit quite for the next few weeks from me apart from the wolves, I'll be having a practice game next weekend then the following weekend its my tournament and somehow I managed to get pulled in to working the day after and I think I'm working the weekend after that as well. Hopefully I'll be able to start on something new along with the other half of the Bane Thrall unit but we shall see.

I really like those miniatures. Paint jobs are very flattering as well, so nicely done!

I've tried to be very disciplined about not getting into any other games. I have a small Hordes army sitting unpainted on the shelf for several years now. That was a good lesson it what I do and don't have time for. It's not there as a reminder not to over-extend myself.

Thanks yeah I know the feeling, I play about two or three games a year but then I prefer painting to playing so I don't mind, just wish I had a nice cabinet to put them instead of boxes

Solar_lion wrote:Wow. the Knight came out really well. Nice solid used look and feel on the weathering .

Thanks Solar yeah he came out quite nicely. I wish I could get the same effect on tanks but they never quite seem to come out as I want them too and thats after watching some historic painters doing tank weathering.

Hopefully tonight I will get a chance to paint my base rims black, I submitted my army list last night which was lucky as I found out the deadline is tomorrow. I usually do a stats and rule sheet as well so need to get that done this week, I'm getting old and find it hard remembering all the rules. I suppose it might help if I actually used the new models before the tournament but never mind

I had a practice yesterday against my CSM army and they got floored which is always good as my Dark Wolves haven't beaten them yet.

-------------------------------

So update day pics aren't great as there's no natural lighting this time of year in the UK is always dark and dreary

You will have to trust me that they look better in real life, so hears a bunch of Thunderwolves.

Group Shots

I also have an army shot of what I'm taking next weekend its a very small amount of models I must say, I don't expect to do very well as long as I don't face Tau I should have a great day.

I think the rest of today will be looking at assembling some more models for the to be painted box, need to get as much primed before winter sets in. If I get much assembled I'll do a pic if you're interested.

I've already started planning my projects for next year but more on that later....

Yea they are rather expensive its just under 250 points for a squad of three two with fists and one with claw(s). They work out the same points value as my squad of five Wolf Guard in TDA armour with lots of add on's. But you have to consider that's ten powerfist attacks on the charge from one unit with a 3++ save the claw guys have melta bombs as well

Love that you've done a wide range of chaos, there's just so many choices that you could pretty much go anywhere with it.

Flawless host is definitely one of my favourite ways to do Slaanesh, and Skyrar's Dark Wolves are an army on the 'maybe one day' waiting list.

Reading through from page 1 you can definitely see how you've improved over the years, will be keeping up to date from here on in!

Cheers Solar I'll be packing them tonight ready for the weekend. I don't expect much to work for me I'm a really bad player / army list builder, I just go for models I like the look of. I wont be in for best painted as I've taken the army a few times now, need a new one to have a chance for that which is next years project.

Thanks Ignatius-Grulgor I could spend ages as well just on Chaos, there's so many possibilities out there its hard sticking to one chapter/theme.

Good to have you along on the blog, there wont be much chaos till next year now but it will be back with a vengeance, I have plans to flesh out my World Eaters and Death Guard so they can both do 1750 points each without borrowing units.

Sorry for the lack of updates work has hit in hard and I've had no free time and its not looking great for the rest of the month either.

Got lots of minis waiting to be assembled just hoping I get time before the bad weather sets in, we are already on the rain season so primer time is very precious if there is a break

The tournament ah yes that's where I left you last time, well it was interesting I don't have any photos well there might be one of the first game will check camera later. From a playing point of view it went as it usually does for me.

First game was against a White Scars bike list with Space Wolf allies (thunderwolves). I did ok at the start but started to loose too many models mid game due to bad save's, loosing three terminators from four bolter shots hurts....I think I ended up being tabled. There was no psyker for my assassin to play with.

Second game was against an all tank Guard list with a Knight. I nearly lost my knight in the first turn which was scary, he went down to 1HP but managed to pull through. I killed his knight with one of my Thunderwolf units on his turn one which was cool, but again my low model count worked against me, just too many tanks to take out, and he had no psyker for my assassin to play with.

Third game (now on bottom table) was against Dark Eldar, I basicly ripped their heads off they couldn't handle all my 3++ and 2+ saves and I just hammered them, my knight made it across the table crushing his warlord in combat before it was taken down by flyers. My Thunderwolf units took out so many units they were unstoppable. Again their were no pysykers for my assassin to play with :(

Overall all three games were quite fun best painted still urks me as in many events if you go with lots of friends they vote for your army, bitter yes a tad as it went to someone who didn't even have their name and player number laid out which is how I came to the conclusion that's its a bit of a waste of time. I must admit that to stand a chance I'd need a new army and really have to do something spectacular to get noticed again. The question is do I bother as 40k armies aren't cheap or should I just not bother and continue with other games and more interesting minis.

Hopefully I'll have something for you all soon even if its just assembled minis

Sounds like a tough bunch of games.. Don't be discouraged.. if you had a good time and played some good game it's all good. As for painting, well it alway a toss, but I've noticed that the level has gone way up. It's hard to compete in some of the bigger tourney's when all the armies are 'Pro' painted and not ususally by the owning players.

Paint what you like and keep improving.

Sadly that's not the case where I play, I didn't see one army that had highlights.

I live in the middle of no where, sometimes if your lucky you see a bus. A bus would be required to catch said train which would involve changes and not the ability to get back home again once I return to my train station.....Great if theres a zombie apocalypse, they would never find me! As a result I don't get out much

I'm back with pictures this week

Work is busy as usual but I have tomorrow off and plan to get a few hours of painting in while I can, I think the other half of the Bane Thrall unit is up next.

Here's the finished pic of Commander Coleman Stryker, I tided up his base this afternoon and darkened where his eyes are. I'm slowly getting the hang of painting flesh now.

Next up is the Relic Knights Shattered Sword starter set assembled ready to be primed, which I did today. I must they are terrible models, mold lines in places that are just the most pain in the behind to remove and in some cases I just had to leave them. The faces have lost a lot of detail as well oh and you have to glue them with super glue as I found out after finishing them and then bits started falling off when I picked them up the next day

Then we move on to my Nurgle Man O War fleet which is now complete minus one model which is the sorcerers boat but I'm going to try and make a Nurgle version to fit in with the fleet.

Lastly today is my latest supply drop some more pain in the behind Relic Knight models the big ogre guy is quite cool but the Isabeau Durand model has the same issues as the rest including a very poorly face I have an interesting shot I will share with you tomorrow of her next to the Ltd edition Infinity O:I model.

Also another crew for Malifaux as well which gives me enough to play with once they are painted. Oh and a Warmachine mini that I cant recall the name of while typing this for my Cryx

I've now gone past the Xmas present mark so any models I buy now go into my Xmas stash which is quite cool makes it look like I get more than I really do, I've never been given miniature related hobby
stuff for Xmas so decided to do this quite a few years ago.

Just ordered some nice discounted minis from Wayland Games for Dark Age and Dust and I'm still waiting on KS things from Darklands and Wolsung as well, would be nice if they arrived in time.

I'll be back tomorrow

Here we go Isabeau Durand from Relic Knights vs CSU Corporate Security Unit from Infinity.

As you can see there's no comparison really when it comes down to it. The Infinity mini is just plain better in all ways she has a face and detail and actually looks like a female model should all her assets and curves are in the right places. Poor Isabeau is super skinny and has some weird third joint in her right arm that just looks plan wrong. she did look ok until I put the head and arms on. Just not greatly impressed especially when compared to the model in the advert picture. Lets just hope I can do her some justice when it comes to painting.

I am struggling with putting the Infinity minis together as well, the parts are too small for me to hold, I also got some new glue but its way too thin I ended up getting stuck to the young CSU model at one point

The Bane Thralls have actually had some paint applied to them today as well, my paintbrush is happy again!

I feel like I'm back into painting again, I didn't have to work so pulled out my brushes instead this weekend.

I finished off the second half of the Bane Thralls unit for Warmachine.

As usual for this time of year the pics are a bit poor.

I then started my first Relic Knights mini today, I managed to get all the metallics done on Austrican The Ogre and he's looking nice and shiny. I'm going off scheme compared to the official Shattered Sword look but wanted mine to look like real knights so they are going to be mostly metallics.

Finally some proof that I'm getting somewhere with assembling my Infinity minis, just two more nomads to go and then onto the PanO. The last two will be easy, its where you have two arms that have to be glued together where I have issues.

As the weather has started to turn too cold to prime outside these probably wont be painted till spring now. I'm going to be working my way through my box of primed minis over the next few months, unless I find something thats plastic as I can prime that by hand, metal and resin though have to be done via spray.

Hey all back again with another mini for you this week, should be on a bit of a roll over Christmas with lots of time off.

Been a bit busy at the start of the week writing an article for a Magic the Gathering website but thats now finished and published. I used to write weekly but swapped my hobbys round so that comes after my painting now. Also been helping NF09 with his Ork list, just a few more bits left and it should be good.

On the painting front I finished my first Relic Knights mini Austrican the Ogre from the Shattered Sword faction, he's quite cool but ignore the mold lines, something you are never going to get away from with this range.

That's all from me today, should have more tomorrow

Yeah sadly they are all really bad including this one, I couldn't get all the mold lines off him some are in really bizarre places. But I really wanted to try it so really only have my self to blame

Today I thought I'd have a look at the challenges I set my self back in January and see how I've done

Things that one must accomplish this year.

Make/buy more scenery for batreps. - Pass
Build (and paint) my Eldar army up to 900 points minimum - Fail
Finally start my Exorcists - Epic Fail
Finish painting my khador Man O War unit. - Pass
Paint my Dwarf Man O War fleet when it arrives - - Pass

Things that I would like to do but may not accomplish

Finish my World Eaters army to 1750 points - Fail
Finish my Death Guard army to 1750 points - Fail
Collect the other half of my Skaven fleet where possible and paint - Fail
Become a better painter - You decide
Collect and paint a Cygnar starter force and learn the rules Fail/ - Pass

Well not great really

Some of those will be going back on the list again this year. I'm currently planning next years list at present.

Thanks for the Christmas wishes guys had a really relaxed time this year, I think its the first time i've not been stressed at something or another (usually work) for years.

I don't usually get hobby related stuff for Christmas but I have been holding stuff back over the last few months, so I kind of get a present to myself We don't have much money so it works quite well.

So my Christmas hall looks like this on the hobby front.

Most of this was acquired through Wayland Games Black Friday sale.

So we have a box of Purifiers for Relic Knights

Two starter sets and the rules for Dust Tactics.

The Dark Age rule book and the not quite the latest expansion book but it has all the factions I'm interested in so picked it up, and it was cheap Also picked up a few minis for the Kukulkani faction.

Lastly some minis from Dark Lands, I went in for their latest kickstarter but went with already existing minis to play it safe. Will pick up some more though, I have my eyes on some werewolfs and other things, such great minis.

I've assembled two so far along with some more Infinity miniatures and the Purifiers, here's a pic of the combined forces of Pano and the Shattered Sword vs a very large manticore Ungefelic with Carrowek his commander.

Lastly today I've finished some more minis for your viewing pleasure. Both from Relic Knights again the Swordsworn and Francis Malory

Isabeau Durand is nearly finished and will follow shortly, I'm back at work tomorrow but thats the only day next week so expect some more minis over the week, I'll also do my goals for next year as well.

Some more Relic Knights for you today this time the lovely Isabeau Durand (I just wish the model was ) She didn't turn out badly considering though.

I have finished another mini as well but its for a painting comp, sadly this means I cant show it to you until its been displayed on their forum first which wont be till next weak at some point.

Its all to do with one of my new year goals, more info will follow later

Hang on....you've already finished one of your models in connection with your new year goals.....isn't that cheating considering it's still this year?

Isabeau looks good - like the anime effect you pulled off with the eyes. But yeah, regards the actual model that arm looks very weird, wasn't quite sure what pose she was in for a second.

MT, you have to submit your entries by the 4th of Jan, just getting a head start

Yeah that arm is super weird its like she has two elbows and then a bendy forearm, there's some bad mold lines as well but you cant see them in the pic and her pony tails oh her body don't actually tie in with the bits that come from her head (separate part), its physically imposable to have both in the correct position. But at table level she looks good and I did well on her flesh tones, always one of my concerns painting skin.

This morning will mainly consist of making some more minis up, I seem to have a bit of a back log due to not having much hobby time over the last few months.

It's that time of year again when projects are planned and normally not fulfilled in my case

First things first an assembly shot shot from yesterday.

The Infinity Pan O minis are now all together, the sniper type guy on the far left who's been distracted by Annik from Dark Lands was a right pain to put together, I think he was the worst from the box set.

This is Annik such a very lovely young lady, I'm absolutely dreading painting her to be honest.

------------------

Now we plan ahead for the year, there are many projects as always on my list and I like to list them all out so I've got some sort of idea of what I'm doing.

Non GW

Infinity - Paint starter set and play through the starter rules
Malifaux - Assemble and paint the three crews I have and try to play the game, just need to pick up the cards.
Relic Knights - Finish painting the Shattered Sword minis and then pic up some of the Black Diamond faction and the rules.
Dark Lands - Paint up my Ysians and pick up a second faction and rules when they come out.
Carnevale - Paint up the two forces I have and try playing the game
DUST - Paint the two starter sets I have and play.
Wolsung - Currently waiting for the new rulebook from their kickstarter before picking up any minis.
Warmachine - Finish painting the Cygnar minis I have and any others I pick up.
Dark Age - pick up two starter forces.

Freebooters Fate - Pick up the main rules and a few starter sets
Kings of War - Build 4 small armies Undead, Chaos Dwarf, Dark Elves and Dwarves or Humans. I've already started picking up bits for the undead army.

Other games that are threatening my wallet

Arena Rex - when the models go up for sale.
Dropzone Commander
Planetfall
Saga
Batman - When the rules come out in book format I might not be able to resist any longer
Wild West Exodus
Hordes - There's some nice minis coming out of PP at the moment and they are starting to use HIPS as well so things are looking promising
Wrath of Kings - Not out for general sale yet.

GW
Man O War - Skaven still in the same position as last year I've not seen any minis I need, Dark Elves just one unit left to get and I also just need one more unit for my Plague Fleet as well.

Sisters of Battle - Phase one is to get another Exorcist and some more melta girls but I've been putting them off for a long time. Phase two is to make some Immolators
Mantis Warriors - Just need a 5 man tac squad and a Sicaran
Dark Wolves - Not much left that I want for these, an Iron Priest on Thunderwolf and another Hyperios Missile launcher
World Eaters - A Predator and a Typhon
Death Guard - Some Obliterators and another unit of plasma Plagues
Eldar - not fully decided where I'm going with these yet.

If I start a new army its going to be Black Templars with Catachan allies.

To be honest I'm really struggling to spend money on 40k at the moment I can get so much more with usually better sculpting from all the excellent skirmish games that are around at the moment, it makes painting so much more interesting as well.

If anything goes out of control it will be Infinity as there's so many nice minis I want.

I also managed to do another goal which isn't mini related which was to upload all my music to Amazon's cloud service, its only taken me two years.... but I finished Christmas Eve with a count of 1764 albums, not bad

I also picked up Space Hulk Ascension for the PC the other day in the Steam sale and cant stop playing it, its a fantastic game. I really do recommend it if you like the board game.

That's me all set up for another year.

Well nearly I forgot to mention my main goal

Which is to try and place in the top three of a painting competition, any will do or get a best painted army award which might not happen if I don't start a new army...I've seen a few small painting comps around on forums so will be trying my luck.

Have you tried scoring where the parts join, it helps make a stronger bond for the superglue. I did this on a few of the Pan O guys.

After talking to Miss Dee about the Infinity CSU Corporate Security Unit I decided that I would give her a go today.

I tried improving my skin tones this time by blending in a bit of red, which gives her a bit more of a human look.

Hope you like her.

Black and white scheme is not easy, and you did quite well it seems.
Making her a redhead is a nice idea, don't know if it's similar on the official painting, but it works well with the two main colors.

Cheers Miss Dee

I thought I mucked them up at first to be honest. I used GW Nuln wash and stippled it on with a small dry brush like I do with my beards and heads (which I got from NF09) but it was way too blotchy over such a large area, so I used a very very very watered down Vallejo Black and went over them totally which ended up with the end effect. If I tried it again I'd just use the watered down black as Nuln wash isn't as good as the old Badab black for certain things. Oh I did paint her legs fully first with highlights etc.

--------------

Today I have something different, some muddy Eldar guardians which completes my first squad. I got fed up with them being in all my WIP shots for months on end so gave them a lick of paint.

Not sure whats next but I have my Infinity Nomads on the painting table all primed and ready to go

Hope you all had a good weekend.

I slacked bad on the painting front, I ended up playing Magic the Gathering online all day today, bad Giraffe

But I still have an update as there was a bit of action on Saturday which saw me complete the first of my Nomads, I don't actually know what he is as I haven't read the quick start rules yet but I think he's just a normal bod. He ended up a lot orangey than I wanted so I had to tone him down a bit.

I also started on the next guy he's very rough at the moment need to tidy the white lines up but you can see where I'm going with him, he's a proper red this time as well.

Was a bit strange doing white highlights straight on red but it kind of looks good in a strange way, thoughts would be appreciated.

I'm also playing round with some crackle to make ice bases, still in the early stages at the moment.

Lastly I mentioned that I entered a model into a painting competition on another forum, well it finished tonight and I came in third just lol

So thats my main goal done for the year it was third out of seven but who's counting......

I painted a Warjack for my Cygnar force for Warmachine.

That's me for the weekend lots of models to show but I haven't really done much

Just a small update today my painting output seems a bit slow at the moment not sure why.

It could be these Infinity mini's, they take me a weekend just to do one

This is the result of the one I finished that I started last weekend.

I really like how his metal armour came out, looks very snake like.

Infinity Nomad Mobile Brigada

I'll have the next one ready for next weekend she's nearly finished.

Cheers Nash, good to have you back

--------------------------------

Small update today as I've managed to put my shoulder out of action, its a right pain as I find it difficult to paint or play games on the computer and I've no idea how I done it either which is just as annoying.

I finished another Alguaciles for my Nomads though, just had the basing to do so it wasn't so bad. I have got myself caught up with the anticipation of the new Harlequin codex though and looked through my primed box as I have a few floating round. So they have some paint on them currently but nothing much to show as of yet .

Here's the Nomad Alguaciles.

Due to not painting much this weekend I may not have anything to show you next week, but we shall see.

Got some old school 40k for you this week. I've had these guys floating round my painting area for ages but I kept putting them off as something more interesting would always come up. But now they are in the lime light I thought it would be a good time to find the brightest colours I have and let rip.

Harlequins ahoy .

Harlequin's

And the money shot...

I've also managed to paint an Infinity mini this weekend as well, I'm not sure how I managed that as well.

So we also have from the Nomad faction the Grenzer, Grenz Security Team

Yeah he's mostly black and grey, might explain it

Thanks yeah the harlies made a nice break I'm going to have to pick some more up for a full troop. Grenzer is a bit lighter in real life but he looks very much like a sniper. I've got the PanO to do after these but I'm still undecided on what blue to use, any thoughts would help, preferably Vallejo. All my blues have been used on other armies so I'm looking for some thing different like how Angel painted them.

I started an Infinity blog ages ago but I've barely touched them since due to other projects etc. (excuses excuses), I've just been going off of Angels step by step guide from his facebook page which basically means vallejo. Looking at the paints in front of me that would be, 'blue green' and 'dark prussia blue', which are then mixed with white etc for shading.

Not much to update you on this weekend from my side, didn't get a chance to play with my paint brush.

I did get some things done though.

I tidied up and built all the models for my Man O War Dark Elf fleet, I now have too many but never mind.

Built the Latigo Posse for Malifaux which is the minis in front.

I also managed to prime some Relic Knights minis and my PanO O:I minis as well, just need to pick up a nice blue for them.

Also picked up and primed a bit of 40k terrain the imperial eagle piece.

I picked up the Lion Rampant rules from Ospery Wargames, heard a lot of good things about it, had a quick flick through and it seems quite good. You might see some Knights extra at some point.

Hmm other news keep seeing lots of rumors about WFB end times, there are chances that some items may go direct only or completely vanish. I'm on the edge about picking up the fantasy minis I want for Kings of War sooner so I can get them from discount stores but can't make my mind up

Small update today I have finished two minis but ones for a painting comp so I wont be able to show him until the end of the month.

The one I can show though is the Nomad Spektr that I finished today.

Only two more Nomads left to go but there is a distraction on the way so its going to be a race to see if I finish them before papa Nurgle drops his load on my door step.

I've put myself down as a reserve for a tournament in May and want to go all Nurgle which means lots of puss and goo over the coming months to look forward to. It's really good though as its kicked off my imagination again for 40k, that and the Harlie release.

I'm hoping to get the Nomads finished for Infinity but the PanO guys might be pushed back a bit in the painting list.

On the Nurgle front I'll be building 9 Oblits from Blightkings and two more squads of Plague Marines

Spektr is looking good, unfortunately the knife seems to have snapped off on ours, quite the fragile contact point.

Talk about timing on the nurgle-blits, just started painting my first five, definitely a good kit for it. Will look forward to seeing your horrid slimies appearing over the next few weeks.

I managed to finish the last two Nomads today, they didn't come out too bad but not my best for some reason. Shame really as I really wanted to do a good job on the Reverend Healer, she looks fine in person just doesn't like having her photo taken. Her skin came out just as I wanted which does make me happy as it means I'm getting over my major painting hurdle, her mascara went a bit wrong though but to be honest I find it too hard to do eyes. I'm either getting old and my sight is failing or I'm just tired as I've worked every other night this week as well as doing my normal hours

Reverend Healer

And then we have the last grunt.

Nomad Alguaciles

And here's the group shot of the finished Nomads from I:O.

Next up will be a piece of scenery, I'm working tonight... so tomorrow I wont stand a chance at painting much but should be able to manage a bit of drybrushing.

I need to pick up some new blues before I start the PanO guys but I'm sure my Nurgle things will arrive before I order the paint at the end of the month, well I hope they do.

Where on earth did you get 28mm scale cacti?

Oh and any hints on what the scenery might be?

The cacti are made by Pegasus, if you search for Pegasus cactus on ebay you will find them. They have one box left for £11.99, don't get the ones from the other seller as they are stupidly over expensive. I got mine ages ago, they were for my Malifaux guild gang I had planned at the time, which I've recently undercoated....

The scenery is the 40k ruined aquila piece, I picked up off ebay cheap the other day.

GiraffeX's blog - Dinosaurs and Werewolves and much more 24/06/2021 @ 2015/02/22 17:32:26

Well I didn't get round to the aquila today, I felt a bit more awake than I expected.

So i decided to paint something completely different, I had an urge to paint something fantasy after watching Dracula Untold last night. I don't have many Fantasy minis undercoated so my choice was a tad limited.

I went for the ultimate test on flesh tones and picked little Annik from Dark Lands as my mini of the day.

she was a challenge that's for sure but you never know what you can do until you try, so my paintbrush was moistened and she came out as follows.

Pics are a bit dark due to the bad weather but I wanted to show her today.

Annik Of Carn Wrach from the Dark Lands Ysian faction.

Sculpting wise she's lovely, just hope I did her justice.
