To whom is building those stone walkways, can you please reposition the one going over the lake near my castle. it's kind of an eyesore and also is close to blocking the connecting waterway.
Runer, I'll be on tomorrow about noon East coast time and we can work on the structure
And thanks for the sugar cane plantation Shrike, it'll save me many long explorations and deaths

I extended one that was about halfway there to get it close to the new nether room I built. Once you find it, feel free to demolish.
just so everyone stops asking, the giant creeper is getting moved. you should see the feet behind the giant man.
and please erase that screenshot- I intentionally didn't put up WIP pics.
Yeh, when that happens to me I just can't be bothered for a little bit. Then I got Invedit so I just copy my inventory over to a spare world, then copy it back if lava happens.
Doesn't happen too often though, cause closest I get is mining obsidian then I get paranoid I'm going to fall in and lose it all.
I was knocked in the lava while facing off an endless barrage of creepers (I think I had opened the way to a dungeon, but it wasn't in sight so I couldn't tell).
there's some wierd stuff happening in the server.
phail randomly respawns without dying, my boat won't move, I get stuck in a wall, nearly suffocate, and as soon as I place my boat in a calm open stretch of water, it breaks. WTF.
I just quit.
But something wierd is happening with water in the world.
I drowned, despite being near my house, which is barely near water.
So if you are near water watch out.
hm. THE END IS NIGH!
IT'S THE END OF THE [minecraft] WORLD ASWE KNOW IT!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Ah, now it's updating...could that be the source?
oh and yak found a forest fire minutes away from the only other two people online at the time.
So I have finally fully finished my floating lair...totally completely done! Ready to move onto my secret island retreat, which is a nice ways a way from the hustle-bustle of Sanctuary city.
For those not on Dakka's server, here's some pics of my finished lair:
Exterior shots:
Interior top floor:
Interior bottom floor:
And here are some random cool things I've found about the world while exploring.
The Ice Jump (located at 202,86,-1063):
and here's what it looks like from the perilous peak before you jump into the icy waters below:
This is the entrance to the Valley of Death (at 185,72,-261):
I really want to go through and dig out the bottom of that valley to make it a really, really deep and cool looking valley. Maybe I'll get around to it at some point (and put a perilous bridge from one side of the valley to the other).
Here's a super tall canyon with a crazy large overhang (this is somewhere around 291,106,1144):
Here's what it looks like from under the overhang:
Finally, here is the great sand mountain (at -1096,67,-2574):
you should build your retreat i the valley of death, or build a 2 block tall wall, with one double door, plant LOADS of trees in there and knock out all the torches, and have an "induction", where you have to survive the night with nothing but a single torch and a wooden sword. as a reward, you are accepted into the community and are allowed n the sanctuary. that'd be so cool.
Chowderhead wrote:Am I the only one who can't get on?
GRAH!
Did you update to 1.5 already? Because I think you can't log on if you've updated your file to 1.5 but the server is still 1.4.
Also, I was trying out 1.5 in SP and it seems like you can no longer exploit ladders every other square...you now seem to have to have a ladder on every square for them to work right...and you can't seem to place torches on a wall opposite a ladder (one space distance) either.
Anyone else notice that? Its making me have to change all my SP ladders, which is a bummer.
I think it auto updates when you log onto the online function. Also thanks for the heads up. I'd rather not find out I'm locked out of my house as the sun sets.
Added Weather (rain, snow, thunder)
Added Statistics and Achievements
New Items (Detector rail, Power Rail, Birch and Pine/Spruce Saplings)
Holding SHIFT+Click on something in a chest will immediately drag the selected item(s) into your inventory and vice-versa.
Birch and Pine/Spruce trees now drop Birch and Pine/Spruce saplings, respectively
Performance improvements
Crafting a ladder now produces 2 ladders
If lightning strikes a pig, it becomes a Zombie Pigman
A pig set on fire will drop cooked porkchops.
New settings in options:
Ability to change GUI size (Small, Normal, Large, Auto)
Advanced OpenGL (For higher-end graphics cards)
New large painting (in kz.png)
New Power armor that looks like electricity (in /armor)
Bug Fixes:
Climbing a ladder with gaps will not work anymore, but moving downwards is still possible.
On fancy graphics, the sides of grass blocks are now biome-specific and match the shade on the top.
You can now move through flowing water at previous speed.
Wolves have a better understanding of doors. (Wolves now have a small chance going through single door and can go through double doors most of the time.)
The lighting on portals and ice has been fixed (previously had triangles on the blocks) when using Smooth Lighting.
New Bugs:
Achievements only work in SMP if you have already completed first achievement in Single Player
Crash when Detector Rails are placed beside normal rails.
Blocks can't be placed on snow.
If you change Advanced OpenGL to on and then back again, giant holes will appear that you can see through.
Jumping off a fence in SMP triggers an anti-flight kick.
Rain will fall through glass, acting as if there is no block there.
When hitting a grass block the destroying animation is darker on the side than the animation on top of the grass block, though only on fancy graphics.
Flowing water no longer pushes empty minecarts that fall into it
GUI: create new world input boxes misaligned under small and normal settings
Ugh, going to have to re-design my tree-tower, the single-block ladder up won't work anymore, and if what yak says about the torches opposite ladders is true it means the tower will have to go completely unlit if I want the minimum of fuss =|
I'm gonna build a railroad through to the other side of it with the new powered rails, so try to leave me a path.
(incidentally, anybody have iron for sale?).
Also, wiki lists a crash bug for the detector rail (a combination pressure plate/rail). Is there some way we can get that item locked out of the server for the time being?

The crash is from having a detector and a regular rail next to eachother.

Hmm... Weather in MP... I wonder if this means that I will be able to steal away by the cover of rainfall and night to allow my assassinations (just kidding)...

What is this about power armor now?!
There is a power armour skin in the armour files.
I suspect it is for iron armour conducting lightning like a Faraday cage.
Melissia wrote:The crash is from having a detector and a regular rail next to eachother.
Which kinda ruins the whole detector rail thing.
No it doesn't.
This works:
R_R
R_R
P_R
D_R
R_R
R_R
This does not work:
RR RR PR
DR
RR RR
R = rail
P = power
D = detector
_ = block with no rail on it.
Automatically Appended Next Post: By the way, power rails don't actually give that much of a boost. You'll want to string several of them along to go up a hill.
Perhaps power rails one after another with redstone torches next to them to save iron (instead of repeated detector/power duos).
well that was interesting updating, but the server is now up to 1.5 and you should be able to get on without any problems. Just added the two users who had requested in this thread and off to the sticky to add the rest now...

Easy way out? Go to the sign you warped in at and head in the opposite direction from the valley of death until you see a wooden house (it's almost visible from the valley). Enter it, take the tunnel on the ground floor to my treebase, then the tunnel there to the Sanctuary.
Slighty harder way? Do the same but whilst facing the valley, head left and down until my treetower comes into view, walk over to it and look around for the entrance to my base, then take the tunnel there to the sanc.
This is what you should've done.
This is Captain Hindsight signing off, although I should've done this hours ago.

Well, There are about 40 of those, and the fact that I just put up a 36 block lava fall may not help the visitor's chances of living...
If anyone's still having the blackscreen crashes, reducing the memory allocated to java counter intuitively seems to fix the issue, at least for me. Raising the memory it could allocate caused it to crash after about ten seconds, leaving it at the default (1026 MB) has it crashing every couple of minutes, and reducing the default by 256 MB with a .bat script (java -Xms512m -Xmx768m -jar Minecraft.exe) has it not crashing at all, while doing things that generally caused crashes before (namely, moving around a lot, which was hardly a requirement for a crash, but it did exacerbate it quite a bit). I've only been playing for about ten minutes, but that's about five times as long as I could after this last patch (which was itself twice as long as I could play after the April Fools patch...).
That's the one fix I found looking around the Minecraft forums that worked for me, since I'd reinstalled minecraft in the past to no avail, as well as trying different draw distances, and the aforementioned increasing the memory allocated to java. Considering that all of those fixes listed helped some people, but not others, I'm willing to bet that it's not just one problem causing it, but a number of potential problems that all end in the same result.
The new patch did greatly improve graphic performance, though, as I can run smooth lighting without issue.

The "Web" is a new item introduced in Beta 1.5. It was previously found in the Terrain.png file, but had no block ID assigned to it. It is not generated or crafted in any way, although it is speculated that it will be properly added in Beta 1.6. Current thoughts are that spiders will nest in it, shoot the web at you to slow you down, or drop it as loot.
Moving into a web limits your movement abilities. When you are "inside" the web, you will move at a speed equal to about 15% of the normal walking speed. Additionally, jumping will vibrate the player, akin to jumping in a 2 block high space. Unlike water, however, falling into a web will not prevent fall damage, although it will be delayed until you make contact with the ground.
It can be placed in and under water.
You can put a web on reeds.
Jumping from high above into a web doesn't kill you, but the moment you hit the "bottom" of the web you take fall damage.
You can put webs on webs in-game.
Items thrown on the web will fall down after about 20 seconds
Animals that walk into the web will slow down, even spiders.
Minecarts treat it as regualer block, like glass or dirt.
those webs sound bloody terrifying. I hope they MAKE them in caves, not shoot them at you. I'm terrible at dealing with spiders, and now they might be able to slow you to 15%? ouch.
and I keep getting "end of stream" error.
On the plus side I can already see its use in making traps.
Could have used some not long ago when I killed a Creeper with my mind. As it chased me I dumped a wall around it and trapped it inside, then it blew up but I was fine.

Like I mentioned earlier in game, might be best to just leave the minecarts alone for a bit.
Also to add cause of the lightning all wooden houses should have a base and roof of stone, just in case. It struck about 3 blocks away from me. Besides the cool effect it looks exactly the same as using a flint and steel.
This would of course happen while I'm in the middle of making a rail line.

It's just getting away from there that's tricky, it's really starting to get difficult to navigate.
Server updated and melissia added. Melissia, no moaning though (as you already did about netherrack earlier in the thread ), this server is an amusing diversion rather than anything I intend to support, so if anyone moans too much about server operations to the point it feels like a chore, I'll just block access to those people. Killer moat, plus the buildings in the area need to be spawn proofed (either light up everything, or cover it with slabs).
If we're talking about the sanctuary I think it could use something like some cacti in the moat to stop all those skeletons from massing from time to time.

Yup all my stuff is trapped now, hope you dont lose anything valuable when trying to take crap.
Working on my highway, and had to take up shelter in someone's house during a storm.
Its a castle-like place near a river, and it needs alot of fortifty. The doors were on backwards, but I fixed that. Biggest issue is that the basement is completely open to the outside, allowing monsters to enter.

Okay, first off. Who the hell keeps taking the buckets out the public lava resevoir? I've made eighteen buckets now, and every one has been taken despite a sign nicely asking everyone to please return the buckets they take. Stop being greedy!

And here's what it looks like after (note where the stone/dirt line runs along the canyon wall...that's how high the ground used to be!):
And here's what it looks like from the other side of the valley:
While I love how it looks, I'm now thinking perhaps I should change the water into lava to make it a REAL valley of death? I know of a lava pool nearby I could use to make it. So what say you? Go to lava or leave the valley of death lovely looking?

Y'know the server is in Germany and I'm in Los Angeles...I can't imagine your connection speed based on sheer geography should be THAT much worse (although I could be totally wrong). Perhaps it is just a slow connection speed you're actually getting to your house?
hm. what were you planning to do there? It depends.

I was going to build a big table in that large room in my house for that. Meh looks like I'll throw in a couch or something to go with the pool on the roof.
@Jaon: You'll get used to it after a while, although the connection for me seems better at night for some reason despite having no on or off peak in the plan. Stuff like you'll destroy a block and it will show up again. So just stand there and it will vanish again in a bit and add itself to the inventory a little later when it is lagging.
Also when you place blocks they may vanish again, just wait and they'll reappear.
Building houses is fun, place a whole lot down, they vanish then you can pretend you made it appear with your mind. Though it's not always like that I do get a decent amount of time when it runs just fine.
The highway I'm building between my Fortress and DakkaVille is nearly complete.. if the server could stay up and not rain, I should be done in a Minecraft Day or so.

They won't listen to signs. When I made the notice wall in the Sanc there was a chest that contained a few signs and a sign above it asking people to put them back afterwards or to at least put a replacement in if it's going to be up for a while.
The chest was emptied in a day, someone even stole the sign asking people to put the signs back.
I have a small 5x1x3 secret room/closet/thing, so what do you think I should put in it? So far the only reccommendation is a chaos shrine, but I have no idea how to do that in such a small space. I might have to make another secret room with a shrine in, once my mine has gone to a decent size.
