Spoils of War - 2/3rd August!
Having got my army almost done for this friendly campaign weekend, I happily went down to the venue. This was a friendly, team based campaign weekend deciding the fate of an important planet. The players were split into teams of:
a: Girls (imperials)
b: Orks (more than any other team)
c: Baddies (chaos)
d: Gribblies (Xenos)
We needed to have 3 different lists for the weekend to play different sized games. Mine were as follows
Day one
Game1:
750(with some strange building rules - hence doesn't fit into
FoC) - Loot counters
6 Berserkers in Rhino
6 Berserkers in Rhino
6 Berserkers in Rhino
6 Raptors
3 Bikes/2 Flamers
A nice and shooty list!
My first game was against a stunning genestealer ork cult. Each and every model was fully converted and beautifully painted. After 3 turns of movement, the zerkers counter charged and killed 35+ Orks in one turn. Revelling in their glory, they forgot about objectives and couldn't quite get there in time for the end of the game. Fortunately, purely by luck rather than skill, one of the ork contesting buggys wzas 3.5" out from my objective so I just managed a draw... Horray for me but unlucky for the ork guy as he really should've won.
Result:
Lucky draw
Game 2:
1500 Points (standard
FoC) - Vs Nids - Bases
List:
Lash Prince
4 Termies
8 Berskers, Rhino,
ac w/ fist
10
CSM, 2 flamers, Fist
8 Plague marines, 2 plasmas
2 Oblits
8 havoks with 4
MLs
6 raptors -
MoK, 2 Flamers
Considering I have only played
40k for about 4 months now, it was a little strange I had never played a 'Nid army. Having little understanding of how
fast they are, I foolishly decided on table quarters which was my first mistake. My second was to ignore the warriors, my third was to miss an assault with my zerkers and get charged and my fourth was to shoot someone else when I wanted to counter charge with my termies. Needless to say, I got absolutely annihilated and lost my army to a man in turn 4...
On the plus side, my
DP valiantly assaulted a combat Hive Tyrant and killed him before he could even hit back... Apart from that, it was a pretty dire game.
Must play nids more!
Result:
Hideous loss
Game 3: 1500 points vs Mech Orks - Bases
Both of our armies were pretty resilient in this game and despite some high points, it was pretty much a draw all the way through. Really different army to what I have seen before...
Result:
Draw
Round up
So, after 3 games I came away with 2 draws and a loss which wasn't particularly inspiring but it was good fun and the scenery/event was awesome...
Day 2
Feeling slightly disheartened by yesterday's performance, I decided to take my anger out on some imperial scum... ther were only two games today but they were both 2k so I got to take more fun stuff!
I decided to use a list that I had never, ever tried before but seemed fun.
Lash Prince
10 Berserkers, Fist (go in
LR)
6 Berserkers, Rhino
6 Berserkers, Rhino
8
PMs, 2
Plas
8
PMs, 2
Plas
10
CSM, 2 Flamers, Fist, Rhino
2 Oblits
Landraider with
DP
8 Havoks with 4
ML
Game one:2k vs Sisters - Loot counters
Sisters were another army I had never played before so I didn't really know how they worked. This was an exceptionally fun game with me getting so excited about a first turn berserker charge that I didn't see all the various flamers, tanks, etc nearby. The
LR opened, the berserkers were unleashed but the sisters used their silly auto faith items and got a 3+
inv (which was kinda silly as thjey had a 3+ anyways!). I did 4 wounds and they ran off (yay!) but then everything shot at them and they all died (boo!).
Despite this, my hordes of troops eventually got there and took the game by the end of turn 5.
Great game vs great opponent... Faithpoints suck!!!!
Result:
Glorious win for chaos
If you won a game at this campaign, you got to get a special ability card. I promptly sprinted over to get one and received a card where I could move any one of my opponent's units by 6" at the start of the turn.
Game three: 2k Vs Blood Ravens - loot counters
This was defintely the best game of the weekend. Right up until turn 6 it could go both ways. I started the game by moving his vindicator out of cover into plain sight which promptly lost its weapon (yay!) on the first turn. THe game was a gory mess and despite aboiut 20
LC shots, my
LR remained unscathed.
The first 3 turns were manouvering about the get in to assault. This was all going very well when an
SM pod landed with a venerable dreadnought in just behind my shooters.... Havoks (200 points) and
CSM (235 points) and 4 plaguemarines (125 points) were quickly butchered. Next turn ad rounded to fire on him and immobilised him 3.5" away from the objective my remaining plague marines were guarding (muhahahahahaha). He was totally unkillable for the rest of the game but couldn't contest.
The rest of the game was extremely tense and ended with 3 glorious charges from the berserker units onto Tactical squads and assault marines guarding the objectives. 22 tooled up, assaulting berserkers are no fun at all to fight and they killed about 700 points in one turn.
By the end of turn five, we both had one objective and 2 more were possibly within 3" of my units - we didn't measure so it was fun at the end!
However, the game continued for another 2 turns and after turn 5, it was pretty much game over for the blood ravens.
Another great game with a similarly great opponent!
Result :
Glorious win for chaos
The last game, however, was also a strategic table which meant I got double points for winning (yay!)
So, 5 games - 2 - 2 - 1 so not bad for my first event ever!
The fate of the planet
Sadly, the glory of chaos was forever tarnished as we came last due to some unlucky losses but it was a great game in the end!
Results were:
1: Orks (surprised?)
2: Xenos
3: Girly imperials
4: Chaos (boo!)
Despite our team not winning (boo!), somehow I got the most points on the chaos team and received a minor award (yay!).
All in all it was a great weekend which was really well ran and had great scenery tables everywhere.
