What sort of "conversion" do you mean? I have a pretty bad-assed modeled Leman Russ and some Veteran Guard made from Catachan and Cadian models.

Not the best pic, but their is free hand greens stuff sculpting, parts from 6 different kits, and it all came out pretty well IMO.

Post by: jah-joshua

this guy is still one of my favorite conversions...
sorry for the poor 6 year old photos

the mix of space marine, catachan, and necromunda parts really worked well for a battered urban fighter...

this guy is my all-time favorite conversion, 'cause he looks like a stock model...
he is 22 different parts, from sources such as the inquisitor tech-priest, the iron warriors, space wolves, plastic dread, and necron destroyer...
he was built way back in '01, so the only source for the pointing powerfist was the chaos marines...
the star and the exhaust pipes were carved off, and the spot where the star was scrapped off got covered with a crux terminatus from the dread...
the chest is from the iron warriors bitz...
the shoulder pads are from the land raider sprue...
the head is a sergeant from the regular marine box, as well as the legs...
the scroll and skull on his shin are carved from a dread sarchophagus...
the bolter is from a special edition captain...
the icon on his belt if from the inquisitor tech-priest...
the big purity seal on his chest is from the dread...
the knife is from the space wolves(with the little wolf skull carved off, then the knife was flipped around, and a new skull added)...
the backpack is from the black library limited edition leonatus...
and finally, the necron is a destroyer head and spine...

thanks for lookin'...

cheers
jah

This is the Sergeant for a very converted squad of space marines (I'm using them as Movie Space Marines). He was the first one done, and the only one I've painted so far, but the whole unit is pretty drastically converted. I'll post them up as I finish them.

This is a warpwolf, I made him howl at the moon. Large portions of his arms and abs are green stuff.

This model's head, both arms and back hand are all green stuff. I just wanted to make mine more individual.

This is a mini for a client, he wanted a dwarf Orb-wielding wizard. He's based on a Reaper mini.

This is my favorite of them. Pendrake is not changed, but the Cyclopse head he's standing on is all greenstuff.

Maybe not my favorite, but the most extensive conversion I've done: Carnifex stand-in for my Ork Genestealer Cult (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/237629.page). Greenstuff over a wire armature built around an AoBR Dread chest piece and Carnifex tail & leg with a Tyranid Warrior venom cannon and parts from the AoBR Dethcopta for a Scything Blade.

Another simple one I did for a friend ... a very long time ago. It's a hobbit knight, complete with bunny rabbit (came with the model) on the helmet. I chopped off the sword and replaced it with a drumstick, which has a bite taken out of it.

Post by: Rangerrob

ok...you asked for it...

Somewhere in the galaxy during the 41 millennia

Sergeant Brother Kyle was the most respected member of all the Greenhouse Guardian Scout Marines.
Veteran of numerous engagements with all the enemies of the Emperor, Brother Kyle was an expert at
avoiding detection and placing his unit in the perfect ambush position on any battlefield. His latest honor
was being named best shot in the chapter, narrowly beating out Chapter Master Hillman.

All of that was of little comfort to Sergeant Brother Kyle at the moment. His squad had all been killed by
a blast from a Chaos Defiler’s Battle Cannon. Kyle was in pretty bad shape himself as he lay there in the
smoldering crater, left for dead. Both his legs and left arm were a tangled mess of flesh bone and armor,
his left eye was useless, swollen shut or missing he couldn’t be sure.

The battle was going poorly for the Greenhouse Guardians. Chaos Marines were advancing in force, and
causing damage than they were receiving. Sergeant Brother Kyle watched as a Nurgle Lord in
Ancient Terminator Armor strode up to the crater. The crimson eyes of the Nurgle Lord flashed as he looked
down at the broken Scout Sergeant. Brother Kyle watched the pustules burst and reform on the surface of the
putrid green armor as the Terminator Lord approached and heard the Lord laughing as he blacked out.

A nearby explosion woke Brother Kyle, as pieces of the Chaos Defiler rained about him. He looked about to
gather his surroundings and see how long he has been unconscious. The Terminator Lord was closing with
Sergeant Brother Davis and his squad of Devastators. The Devastators had apparently just dispatched the
Chaos Defiler with concentrated fire, but that allowed the Chaos Lord to close on their position. Brother Kyle
knew that the Lord would make short work of the Devastators; his lightning claw would easily catch the marines
burdened with heavy weapons. Kyle’s Sniper rifle was still in his right hand, he knew what he had to do. He just
hoped the rifle still functioned. His first shot was placed through the backside of the Terminator Lords right knee,
one of the three weak points on the ancient terminator armor. The Lord of Nurgle roared and turned to glance
back at had what caused him pain. That glance was all Kyle needed. The second shot was placed through one of
the Lords eyepiece, a truly miraculous shot that some say was guided by the hand of the Emperor. The Lord clutched
at his helmet covering the holed eyepiece with his armored gauntlet, as he tipped his head back and shrieked in pain.
The shriek was cut short as the third weak point of the armor was exposed and penetrated by Sergeant Brother Kyle’s
final shot. The bullet pierced the Lords larynx, shattered the vertebrae, and lodged in the wrong side of the neck armor.
The last vision Brother Kyle saw from his natural eye, was the Nurgle Terminator lord falling, his armor clattering about him.

Chief Librarian Boynton and Brother Chaplain Glazier saw the Lord fall as well, and seized the moment. The counter
attack by those two turned the tide of the battle and carried the Greenhouse Guardians to victory that day.

After the battle little could be done to save Sergeant Brother Kyle. Brother Apothecary Ralph after many hours was able
to stabilize Kyle for transport back to the Guardian’s home world. Once there, the Chapter was unsure of what to do with
Bother Kyle. Three limb bionic replacements are rare, and not conductive to the role of a Scout Marine. It was then that
Chapter Master Hillman stepped in. The words of Chief Librarian Boynton and Chaplain Glazier had reached the Chapter Master.
Hillman ordered that Brother Kyle be entombed in a new Dreadnaught, an honor never before given to a Scout Marine Sergeant.
Brother Apothecary Ralph worked closely with Brother Master Techmarine Arnold in creating a dreadnaught that embodied
Brother Kyle’s actions that day. The Chassis was given the rare Quad Autocannon configuration to represent the accuracy
of the scout squad master. Extra Armor was added to represent the tenacity Brother Kyle displayed that day. Heavily
modified legs were added to allow the chassis to raise itself over cover, and obtain better firing positions.

Current Day…

The Venerable Brother Kyle is a regular sight on any battlefield taken by the Greenhouse Guardians. Usually providing
cover fire from the rear, Bother Kyle has become an expert at placing autocannon shots with the skill of a sniper into
Heavy infantry and light vehicles. The brother marines know that Bother Kyle will find the weak point in the armor of

This is an excellent model. I take it you use him as your Ironclad? Where did the Hammer come from? Is that from the Chaos Dread?

This is superb, nice work. What are you using to sculpt, obviously not green stuff and does not look like brown stuff either, almost looks like plaster.

nope, FW doesn't make an ARES kit.

It's made of cut up Vindicator parts, Heavy Flamers from the Baneblade kit, some DA AC bits, magnets and a lot of chopping up of the LR itself.

Wow, I had to go to the FW website to be sure, I was sure that I had considered buying one of those. I guess I just read an article on how to build one-so being that I couldn't distinguish it from a professionally produced model that doesn't exists means you did a pretty good job!

CT GAMER wrote:My Ork Warboss in Mega-armour "Da Butcha uv Bavgad":

Great idea. I think this embodies my vision of the eldar god of war more than any other avatar model I have seen. Very creative. Overall the paint could use a few more techniques. Why just steam a pot-sticker when you can fry it as well. The flames could use some more white highlights, toned into the oranges and reds with a subtle yellow (or blue if you have a very steady hand). The body is not so molten as befits the avatar, if you could mimic the texture from the G.W. or F.W. models (f.w. is better... ahem), the model would hold a more "molten" prescence; he looks yellow right now, he should be orange and black.

Oh right, blacks and grays are the key to "realistic" magma. Dry brushing your gray (w/ a hint of light-brown if you want to be fancy) onto a "magma" orange will give a fluid presence to the paint; A bubbling if you'd like. Adding a very light drybrush layer to your black "cool magma" lines with a sparkling red is the best way to pull the orange and black together. I find that red with a moderate hint of gold makes an amazing "charcoal" like heat to the model. Silver mixed with yellow (and a tiny drop of gold) then a dull red, will give you an adjustable "charcoal" heat. This is great for bringing a personal tone to your "magma".

A bit less necron would be nice, changing the drape things into a wraithlord-like banner would be relatively simple. There are bound to be a few guides somewhere in this forum for that type of custom banners.

Hey Sirius42, put this in place of your link...then we can all see your pic without going to another page ; )

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/2/7/18911_sm-Space%20Marines%2C%20Terminator%20Armor.jpg

You will need to place img in (square brackets) before the link and img/ (in square brackets) after the link or if you highlight the whole thing and click the 'image' button it will do it for you. Just for your info, I got the link off your gallery under the heading 'Forums'. If you click in the box once then use your right arrow key you can scroll to the beginning of the text you need...it starts and ends with the img tags.

pasting that directly into your posts will give you your image right away without needing to do anything else...I deliberately ommited the [image] tags otherwise you would have seen the picture and not the link.

Sorry for going off topic people.

EzeKK wrote:

Well, you have to remember that these were built during the 4th Edition release so the LOS rule wasn't an issue. That said, the models play exactly as their tracked counterparts in ALL respects (until I do some descent rules for them). As far as the LOS rule goes the odds are even because as you quite rightly point out they are taller and therefore more easily spotted.

I have used them in a few games now and their height doesn't affect game play in the slightest. ; )

Captain Shrike wrote:
AMAZING! how did you do it(instructions)

Too much detail to go into here, however, keep your eyes peeled as I will be building a Predator Destructor Walker in the near future and will document how I build it, plus give some tips on how I built the Whirlwind. = )

I've only done two conversions so I'll just post both. One has to be the best
Most recent one

This one has had some sandstone I crushed added to the base with a small rock on it as well. I don't have a close up of it, but I'll also put the pic that it can be seen with the base done as well.

You'll probably need to zoom in on the image to see it properly. I should really get around to taking another close up pic of it

The Space Marine should be around here ^

Kinda ashamed to show this kind of crap while evryone else show so amazing things. Guess it's never bad to try?
First one is a Big Mek with a WIP kustom force field. All body parts from Battlewagon kit, burna is a SM flamer and the thing on his back (kustom force field) is a Battlewagons Grabbing Klaw, as it has no other means of use.
Second one is just a Nob with nicely posed Big Choppa.
The last is a Killa Kan/Deff Dread which my friend made for me from Soul Grinders extra parts. Thinking about what weapon to wield at other side and how to make it fit nicely.

My most recent and, IMHO, best conversion to date: Exodite Dragon Lord (counts as jetbike autarch)

I also like this Necron "Wraith Lord", counting as destroyer lord, that I converted recently but I'd say ranks #3 in my top five:

Here's #2, an actual Wraithlord, converted as a Striking Scorpion. Haven't finished painting it yet, still on the to-do list:

What's next? Another wraithlord - converted as a Dark Reaper.

This would have to be my best. Every figure in this unit of 20 is converted. EVERY ONE!!! There is nothing that is "Stock".

As I have said in the past. I can not take credit for the idea, Victoria Lamb is the originator of the idea, I just really wanted one for myself. It took me over 50 hours of work to convert everything, and then about another 20 to paint it.

I hope that you like it.

Agreed why the hell is it lately that more and more people even at GD are claiming minis as their own. Years ago that termie that victor hardy won slayer sword for wasnt even made by him. since then it seems people come out of the wood works. If you didnt do it dont post it. IF YOU DID POST WORK IN PROGRESS PICS TO VALIDATE YOUR CLAIM this is only if yours looks similar to somone elses. What do you possibly gain from validation if the work isnt yours. Go on the Scibor Miniatures Website...
Can you see this guy's Dark Angels on the Website...
No? Then he made them,
do you really think that he somehow hacked into Scibor's computer, just so he could say,

Actually, what you are saying is that they look like Scibor Miniatures, therefore they Have to be Scibor Miniatures.
Surely if they are not on the Scibor Website, then they are not Scibor Miniatures.

All Scibor Miniatures use Green Stuff Molds
But not all Green Stuff Molds are Scibor Miniatures.

The skulls are from the old WFB skeletons sprue. The helmet is a beakie helmet plus a skull carefully matched together, the knees were cut hollowed and fitted. Also the skull on the shoulder pad was done the same way.

This is the only conversion Ive got a picture of so far:

[[Image:Adrien's Dias of Decimation and more]]

--Gallery:2009/10/16/58792_sm.jpg--

http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/58792-.html?m=2

I call it 'The Dias of Decimation', and it is basically a ravager and a raider smashed together, giving it 2 dark lances, 2 disintegrators, 2 splinter cannons and 2 shredders, also has 4 attacks from the crew in combat at the normal warrior characteristic, only strength 4 (as they have height advantage!).

It also has the energy field giving it armour 14 all round from a certain distance.

I take it as 250pts and haven't had any disputing opponents yet.

Its fun!

Actually, what you are saying is that they look like Scibor Miniatures, therefore they Have to be Scibor Miniatures.
Surely if they are not on the Scibor Website, then they are not Scibor Miniatures.

All Scibor Miniatures use Green Stuff Molds
But not all Green Stuff Molds are Scibor Miniatures.

your getting way to upset over nothing. Yes they do look a lot like his work is all we are saying. Why is it your more upset then the guy being accussed. All he has to do is say it was a mold based off some of scibors past work, or gritx or whoever. And everyone will be like OK still looks cool, but not really a conversion.

Agreed.

Empchild wrote:Agreed why the hell is it lately that more and more people even at GD are claiming minis as their own. Rant over sorry all. Also how do I post pics to this

So you deny that you made this obviously angry post, because it seems here that you got quite worked up over it...

Still a work in progress, and I can't claim originality, since it was inspired by someone else's work from the Advanced Tau Tactica forum, but my versions of the conversion he inspired me to make...:

The legs look a bit weird, but with some filing this could look pretty cool on the table.

I also can't pick out a favorite. I really like converting especially characters as I feel it gives them a more personalized feel. Here's my gallery:

Yes, it counts as a C'Tan in my Necron army. I usually use it as The Deceiver, but with the scythe weapon it could equally be used as Nightbringer.

That C'tan reminds me a bit of one of the characters from Knights of the Old Republic. Darth Malak, if I remember correctly. Mainly because of the cloth covering the lower part of the face.
