The first time I ever picked up a brush and attempted these minatures was the day I joined Dakka Dakka (6.27.09) So quoting Robin Hood Men in tights, "Perhaps if you gave me the bad news in a good way it won't seem so bad."
Be honest but not mean...not that I can stop anyone but I will kill cute animals in retaliation!!!
These were painted subsquently that month.

Ok since then I have purchased alot of orks, paint, brushes. I also spent a great time reading this forums and attempting to use what I have learned. All the above pics will be updated with what I think will be a final result.
The scheme I have decided on my orks is a silver / black ork Goff theme. I am also going for yellow eyes. All help / tip / ideas appreciated no matter how brutal but remember cute animal life is at steak...hehe...steak....
Here is what remains to be painted and or updated with pics.
84 Ork Boyz: AOBR I converted the hell out of them to help with repetition
10 Lootas: 2 Converted
1 Looted Wagon: Tau Hammerhead
5 Kommandos
1 Weirdboy
3 Deffkoptas
11 Nobz: Many attachments
1 Big Mek KFF 1 Big Mek SAG 1 Warboss: AOBR 5 Burnas: 3 Converted
8 Big shootas
2 Rokkit Launcha Orks: Both Converted
1 Killerkan
Going to be buying another battlewagon, 2x killerkans, Painboy, loota box soon along with another batch of paints washes. BtW loving the GW washes.

Haha thank you.
I fixed snikk, again I am dumb with computers.

Battle wagon looks pretty good as well. And as I just learned, red paint makes it go faster! (im seriously still laughing about that rule).
Keep up the good work.
Many thanks will be posting more pics that cover the last 3 months of my work.
brainscan wrote:is it me or the bike with blue edges oot?
OOT = Out of Time?
If that is the case nah. I wanted to make a tron bike because my Tau friend got pissed off at them and called them F*ing Tron Bikes. Keep in mind I suck at painting and those were the second things I attempted to paint. I know how to highlight "a little better" then that. I have not gone back to that back but I will clean the edges making them alot thinner. I will also be employing a lighting technique to give it a blue glow.

After playing the weird boy a few times with some success decided he finally earned his right to be painted. Going to be painting the three grots next to him three seperate bright colors. Blazing Orange , Liche Purple, Ice Blue since a friend said it would be entertaining. Will see...
Still havnt decided on what scheme to use on the ork boyz or add to the ones I already posted up. Did complete chopping their weaposn arms and wrists up though. So the AOBR I have are nearly all far from what they started out as in the box set.
I think the plain yellow in the eyes depersonalises the orks. Adding a black pupil to the eyes (making sure they are symetrical so they don't look cross-eyed or crazy) will bring life and character to your boyz.
Not that shabby at all. One negative comment: whenever you paint large flat surfaces it isn't applied very evenly. Positive comment: all your gems or goggles or little shiny glass things are amazing.
Some decent work so far.
A thought or two on the Hammerhead: Maybe a plate or two of plasticard for "Proppa Orky Enjuneerin"?
An I echo the above two comments on the eyes and large painted surfaces:
the black pupil would likely work great, and to the paint, just thin it down a tad and dont be afraid to add a second coat if it didnt cover right the first time. Better to have multiple thin coats of paint than one thick one.

Thank you and I will lighten the paint up and try that. I see where it is uneven. At first glance I didnt notice it but staring at it more carfefully as it dries I can see it well now.

Plasticard hmm good idea will go pick some up. Honostly I am afraid of it. Just got over the fear of GS and working with it slowly.
Yeah I just recently started watering my paints...ie today. At first it seems a lil disheartening trying to get the right consistency. Seems like I am washing instead of painting. Will finish up the weird boy with this and go back to the other models. Many thanks for all the advice keep em coming.
As for my ork boyz leaving the pants black and undershirt black look good but I feel empty about it. Any way I can highlight them to appear as black clothing instead of being primed black?
I've been painting black leather on the lads lately, and I've found a few good colors that help with highlighting.
First: I've found a coat of black over primer is essential. Most black primers dry a little light for my taste, so a basecoat of a true black gives a solid color to highlight up from. In other words, don't be lazy!
Next: Pick a highlight tone that works with your scheme. I'm going for worn leather look, so I start with black and highlight with a brown. I know it sounds heinous, but bear in mind I'm not merely slapping snakebite leather or bubonic brown on as a highlight. My first highlight is generally 1:4 Dark Flesh to Chaos Black. Final (extreme) highlights are closer to 1:1, but only sparingly placed on the models. This gives a look very similar to some of my own personal riding gear, which was my goal from the get go. This also serves to tie my troops in with my vehicles, as I use Dark Flesh as the backing for weathering and paint chips.
If that's a bit far out for you, go with gray. Always a good highlight for black gear, trousers, etc. Vallejo makes a color appropriately named Black Gray, yes you read that right, and it's a great initial highlight for black cloth. It dries to a perfect "just caught the light" black shade. A final highlight of Basalt or Neutral Gray will top it off nicely.
And kudos on repositioning the AoBR boys, breaking up those static poses makes a huge difference in tabletop appearance! Keep going!

It looks great, the metal effects look great, and all of the shiny details look crisp. I like the rainbow grots, they kind of work, but really now we all know green is best. And if your still looking for a paint scheme, i like kommando khaki shirts and shadow grey pants with vermin brown straps and scorched brown boots, it just looks right to me, but fair warnings it orks in jeans.
Edit: Btw the tron effect worked, when i saw that i immediately thought tron.

Agreed, Orc Green is where it is at. The Rainbow grots are a Weird boy thing I was debating on making it seem like it was war painted on. As for the painting scheme great idea I have to put in an order of paint I will try your scheme with another that was suggested to me this week and post them both up. I have yet to find one that satisfies me. But both ideas I recieved this week I know will work well since it is better then what I had in mind.
Frenzied Potato wrote: The Rainbow grots are a Weird boy thing I was debating on making it seem like it was war painted on.
Warpaint? Ok i thought they were actually different colors, i could see that, orks think blue is lucky, red goes faster, and the purple guy couldn't decide besides, the weirdboy probably makes them batsh*t crazy.

Heh working on them right now. Taking a break to let hands rest. That last line I am still laughing. I can't honostly imagine what a weird boy is like fluff etc...If Orks are crazy mofo's who thirst for battle, like bright colors and collect teef...what in the nine hells does a weird boy truly enjoy?
Being left alone and staying away from battle... fluff wise regular wierdboyz are kind of wimps, they do awesome stuff, but theyd rather run away than stay and fight...
Actually, the weirdboys in the old fluff were reluctant to get near too much battle due to seeing other weirdboys heads exploding. The weirdboys as they are written up now are kind of grouchy antisocial old bastards with far too much thinking going on, they creep the other orks out due to their unnatural level of intellect.

Hmm...Trying to think how I can implement it through colors or modifications. More decayed clothing / skin ie rustier chains etc...Or you think they would be more cleanlier? Then again whats a clean ork?
Model him a hood from greenstuff or some crazy squig dredlocks and a top hat like a voodoo witchdoctor. Paint his eyes, especially the big one a different colour to the other orks and really make sure they glow... hang on, paint that mutha up like the Spirit of Jazz from Mighty Boosh!
I second the call for wierdboy dreads also, rusty's fine if you read the fluff for madboyz some of its so strange its funny, like bringing a stuffed animal to battle instead of a weapon, or focusing on attacking the nearest model with a random non green color (because even if he's completely and totally crazy all orks love green).
I am trying to figure out if I should green stuff the hood for the weird boy and add dread locks or just the dread locks. Here is how the weird boy is currently.

For being a newer/ish painter, I dont think your doing a bad job at all. Better then alot of new painters thats for sure. And the vehicles, are just a bitch to get good at painting IMO. I can see the moer things you paint the more in the groove your getting. Im digging your Orks so far mate, keep it up

Too kind and thank you. Yeah I am slowly getting into it more and more. I am not satisfied with how my ork skin tone is yet...or maybe I am not happy with myself not being consistant. The vehicles are a pain in the butt, I thoroughly enjoy your rust vehicles.
The way I do skin is prime black (leaning towards priming white since I am learning it is far easier to darken then to lighten a model), base coat orkhide (green +black), dry brush goblin green + highlight Goblin green + bleached bone. The highlight part is whats killing me i tried just brushing it on the highest point of muscles etc to highlight but either im doing it to thick or just not liking how it looks. So I end up just lightly dry brushing the green + bleached bone as the last layer. I devlan mud wash between the last 2 coats to darken it so the highlights have better effect and I blacken up the creases abit.
I need help I know im doing something wrong.
On a side note that guitarist is amazing but that picture looks like he is about to eat the guitar
All in all the entire group of orks looks great. As a side comment I would perform some additional work on the odd boy add some additional highlights he seems a bit washed out. The rest of the army is looking great! Keep up the great paint job and remember that Red ones go fasta!

Yeah I was a nervous of trying to play with GS but man its so much fun. When you start playing with it send me a link to ya blog. Curious to see what ideas I can take...steal....er ....adapt.
My debate right now with the weird boy is do I paint the hood black w/checkers or do I paint it like a rasta like hat?

Happy the face paint worked out good. Initially my hand wasn't shaking and for once was very thin lines...sadly too thin. Of course when I go to freehand the phoenix heads on my eldar wraithlords / guards I am going to give Parkinson patients a run for their money.
1st. That warpaint is amazing, you've done an awesome job!
2nd. Repaint the big eye in another colour, I'd recommend a brighter orange to compliment the red in the other eye. The white of the eye is being lost in the white of the warpaint.

Ironically enough I was given a bunch of skulls / head (giggity) from most of my warhammer group. Great idea with the straw. Looks like a got a hobby shop trip tomorrow. Gonna GS a small cauldren on his base with *brews* get some cotton wool to thin out as well to imitate smoke. If I can shape it well will try to get a smoke skull.
Hmm maybe the cauldron with brew could be at the lip of the SAG where the grotling gets sucked in....could be hmm. Dunno just more idea's keep em comin Thanks for all the help so far!
Nah I hear ya, the boyz at most was just gonna have a small token *necklace or ring* thats voodoo esque and face paint. The dreads gonna stay on weirdboy.
Redid my lil Joker ork with more vivid and cleaner colors. Prolly do a squadron of batman character orks. Also finished a Waldo Ork (ie wheres waldo). Fun lil thing my opponent can look for when 200 orks come charging in.
But yeah for the Voodoo theme was gonna designate 30 ork boyz + nob for group / weirdboy and maybe 1-2 more HQ's to join the theme.
Hook that warboss up with a skull necklace it'll look bangin, or have him sitting on a pile of skulls, i did that to a shoota and he looks bad@$$, i didn't really have a choice tho the legs and body were one piece and that was like the only position it worked in... but hey i got a free shoota out of the trukk box
1) Working on my design for the phoenix Eldar I am working on.
My Eldar - Biel - Tan'Uldane "True Resurrection"
Fluff
Biel - Tan 'Uldane.....Biel - Tan is Rebirth of the old Eldar Days. While Biel - Tan strives to achieve what once was lost. The 'Uldane Branch of Biel - Tan believe's that this cannot be achieved without ridding the universe of the Eldar's child of pride ie Slaanish. Seeking the souls of the dead and damned 'Uldane represent the true rebirth by wraithlords and reapers. No rest, no forgiveness may be attained as Slaanish still breaths.
I couldn't see a way another rebirth clan world could exist so I figured they had their own chapter per say. 'Uldane represent the phoenix being a second chance to atone to break the cycle.
I have been modeling the entire armies paint scheme to reflect that of a phoenix leaving the wraithlords / guards with freehand phoenix features. Those without solid plate masks or vehicles will represent parts of the bird but I left the head for the returned dead or the reapers (maugun ra , death aspect, anyone i deem worthy with a face plate).
As for the symbol of this craft world I have been debating the gold bird from contra *the ones that give you the fun guns.*
Still scribbling and getting help from my brother. Once I have a few options that I am satisfied with I will post them up to get a consensus.
The bases are these . There are well done resin bases. I am very satisfied with Dark Art Miniatures.
2) Friend bartered with me to do his Lucius the Bastard here is where it is currently at.
3) Almost done with the ork boyz. About 70ish of them I burned 10 to make a squad of burna boyz. Figured why the hell not since I had a gaggle of flame throwers left over from the loota boxes. I think finishing my last 8 loota's will be what I do next as I continue to fiddle with my new Eldar idea.
Still havn't played my Eldar yet but very excited never the less. How are you all doing this fine week?
I honestly am Jealous of how much detail goes into the Chaos Demons and Chaos Space Marine models. Not saying all the armies pale by comparison but you can tell a little bit more love went into them.
MeanGreenStompa wrote:Erm... have you seen an obliterator... Chaos has some truly bloody ugly models, oblits, furies, that stupid looking chaos lord with jump pack.

True, but I will give the obliterators one thing. All the weapons in the arm is pretty amusing. I was hoping they had a chance to fire all the weapons but an equal chance to blow off their own arm.

I would watch them but I am afraid of Tristan. For my arm is still in a cast from the last arm wrestling match. Steroids for Tots not a good idea. We did a 2 on 3 10k point match last weekend. Was...colorful.... The highlight was my Kommando group coming off a side without snikrot. I forgot to put him in the stupid group. So I got to watch 2 fleeing space marines kill 6 kommandos
Then I godzilla'd 5 out of the 12 firewarriors Corey set to the side. Got them all back together and my foot still stings.
Love the VG-Cats avatar.
As for my update...I have primed the 12 loota's and brass effected only a set of the guns. Will have a pic in a day or two hopefully. Still no idea what color scheme I plan on using for the eldars. Phoenix like colors yeah but havn't decided on making it literally copying the birds features or like heraldry. Perhaps it is time to consult the Great Hamster.
Working on 3 kommandos to post up today. But trying to learn how to paint lava bases. They look ok on the camera but honestly without the camera they look worse.
From the left to right is colors + gloss then middle being a wash and right being dry brush.
Remember to click then zoom in the next page to see how bad I suck.
These are resin bases from Dark Arts Miniatures. Trying to find a tut to paint their specific bases. Or I will make one once I master this. All help appreciated and required. I am not sure if I want to try wet blending next. I just don't quite get it....
The colors on the bottom part of the base are just testing which I want to paint as the trim when I do finish a base. Liking Lich Purple so far.
do a really light drybrush over the black raised areas to give it almost a soot type feeling, plus if you look at pics of real lava this is how it looks. Then for the inner do a deep red ink it then do a lighter red up to a orange.
You've painted for less than half the time I have, and already you are so much further, skill wise. Just incredible. The Wyrdboy with the dreads and voodoo face painting instantly brought a smile to my face. And don't get me started on the eyes.. Great details.
If I had to make one piece of critiqe, and I do, if only to make myself feel better about being so slow, it would have to be the battlewagon. Subjectively, I think the color is too loud for such a massive area. Objectively, I think it's decently painted, but nowhere near the quality of all your other work.
All in all, color me mightily impressed. All that skill at that short time, and getting so much work done, too. Great work, keep it up!

I will give that a shot thank you very much. I have an idea for the light drybrush. But as for the lava itself. The brightest ie yellow is edging the rocks or is furtherst away? I guess what I am asking is the lights brightest focus furthest from the sides of rocks or the brightest part is touching the rock?

Your too kind. Your spot on about the battlewagon. By far it was the most intimidating model I have had to deal with. I was gonna try to darken it up as you say the color is very loud. Any more thoughts on the wagon please go ahead and post. I just hit the wheels with badab black wash (the blazing bright silver ones I apparently didn't notice).
hrm that is a very good question I would venture the brightest being in the center as such do to the density of the heat. Since the further away and towards solid ground it SHOULD mind you start to cool hence becomming darker.
Wow , those are nice . I like the wierdboy more than anything in this thread . Hes epic(sorry , this is the word of the week apperantly , my last 5 posts have all included the word "epic") . As for the trim im gonna recomend painting them in an redish orange colour .
Remember you can click on the images to zoom in close to really see how bad I am.

Tau FireWarrior Comparison
Left Side is the one I proposed...Right Side is what my friend proposed. On my side there is another option but he didnt give me a third firewarrior. I want to do the clothes in a regal blue and leave the white on the armor only.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Final Addendum To today's update.
This is what I have left to paint:
Orkz
2 x Mega Nobz rokkit / burna
1 x Pain boy w/orderly
1 x Mad Doc Grotsnik
1 x Trukk
1 x Looted Battlewagon (Tau Hammerhead w/ork fixins)
2 x Killer kanz grotzooka's / buzz saws
8 x Lootas
8 x Nobz too many variations to list
5 x Burna Boyz
9 x Ork Boyz slugga boyz
It seems the voodoo theme I have enjoyed thouroughly doing to the weird boy and now a warboss. I would like to continue this. I can repaint alot of things but there is alot that needs to be done. So it makes sense that under Thraks amazing waagh he attracted a clan of voo doo orks.
So we have a weird boy and warboss what else from this joined the waaagh from this voo doo tribe? If it is not listed under what I have to paint go ahead and suggest it I have been having alot of fun stripping paint lately...it may be the fumes though...
Eldar Pheonix Theme: I don't believe my skill is good enough to attempt what I want with them yet so I will leave them at that primed white. The lava bases did come out good though.
Eldar
2 x Wave Serpents
2 x warlocks
1 x Farseer
1 x Maugun Ra
5 x Wraith Guard
1 x Wraith Lord
20 x Guardians w/platforms
8 x Pathfinders
So in conclusion I will not wait three months to post up an update. I will try to keep it weekly. Thanks for ya patience and advice. Remember be brutal but not mean or I will murder kittens.
"Future Plans" Going to buy 1-2 Stompa's and the mega force ork box. 1-2 Eldar Wave serpents. 2 more Wraith Lords, 5 more Wraith guards, 1 more warlock and 3 boxes of avengers. 1 box of death aspect reapers.
I'm siding with your mate on the tau, just because I hate seeing 'metal' colours on them, I personally dont think they even use metal but use ceramite and plastics.
I am told that eldar guardians are not the best troop choice, perhaps mix in dire avengers?
Your ork painting is solid now, perhaps for the stikk bombs, paint them with checkers, hazard stripes etc just on the casing to the actual bomb.

Yeah I was an idiot with the guardians since I knew nothing of the army. I built one but the other is in the box which I am probably gonna just put on ebay. I am gonna use the guardians I did built to practice painting my phoenix scheme. Worse comes to worse I strip them and sell them too on ebay.
Thanks for the compliments MGS. I will try hazard stripes on the casings thanks bud.
As for the Tau I agree with you. The metal really doesnt fit.
Currently Mister Orky Baron Somdi is enjoying his chemical bath. Soon he will be ready.

I did golden yellow base then sunburst yellow for the hazards in a spiral pattern. Did it by hand because I Couldnt cut my masking tape small enough due to my uncontrollable shaking....Be thankful I am not a doctor.
Single
Group
Suggestions or is this a done deal? Debating on doing a devlen mud to darken them it seems "too" bright of a hazard. I dunno I do like how the contrast is effected by the yellow though... Yeah gonna do one bad moon mega nob. Probably match the colors to the machine in Aliens (2nd one at the end Ripley controlled to fight the queen).
I think a thinned down wash on the hazard stripes would look good. I'd give all the metal a wash too. The kommandos are suppose to blacken their gear with soot, after all. Having an overly bright hazard sign is a pretty comical orky thing to include tho
The Good Green wrote:I think a thinned down wash on the hazard stripes would look good. I'd give all the metal a wash too. The kommandos are suppose to blacken their gear with soot, after all. Having an overly bright hazard sign is a pretty comical orky thing to include tho
Yeah I washed them down a little bit but they still orky brighter then normal.
Ok here is the update of Warboss Somdi. I need more idea's. I grabbed some Tau Kroot parts like meat on hooks. Bones in leather bits etc...Need more idea's...
Working on a green stuff voodoo doll. Gonna bother a friend for a space marine helmet for the lil doll.
Almost done with the Pirahna and the Soul Grinder.
Waiting on bits to come in the mail. Have to order some more paint and paint cleaning supplies. Probably get some of those Awesome Paintjob Rust pigments. They look oh so appealing.
Typically I attack Tau with one solid strategy. Get into melee as soon as possible. With this paint scheme its a whole new type of monster. This is a very rough test #2. I have no highlights and have not cleaned up the edges of color. It simply pisses me off. It is not like the daemons I have done for friends which came out good and satisfying. All i want to do is grab the tau and melt them down to make another type of army.
I need some ideas for the gun / highlights / icons / whatever the hell will make me like this tau firewarrior....I scraped test one since I didnt like the half blue plate scheme and the metal gun.
Went for the storm trooper type armor where the plates are a bright white and the clothing is dark. I thought the white came out bright enough its just trying to find a balance atm.
As for Warboss Baron somdi just waiting for parts. He is coming along beautifully. Debating on the next voodoo clan piece that joins them. Maybe a mega nob with Ganja cannons. I do have 5 burna boys begging to be lighting up.
-Cheers
Yeah will have the soul grinder done shortly he is coming out good short of his spine. Its just not making me feel like its a true daemon.
Hmmm... Well.... Ive seen people paint that little screw head thing on the gun gold. maybe for this a silver?
Just a fleck of metal, its a detail after all.
As to white.... Oh boy.... did your buddy choose a pain xD
I find that Looking at other people's stuff helps out with color frustrations.
This is a pic from Sirath's thread (its nice work, Id definitely say give it a look)
Like yours would maybe take the silver little bolt thing (in here its gold, on the side, near the tip of the gun)
Then I see a similar highlighting/lowlighting with the gray.
Heh.... Cant think of anything that could help otherwise.
Best of luck with the Tau Scum!!
You were not joking about it being a pain in the ass about the scheme. That guy has some wonderful looking Tau. I am going to show my friend and see if he likes anything. Which I hope since I am having a hell of a time guessing what will work.
what happens when i sneak into frenzie's house late at night and raid his liquir cabinet and steal his bit box
well, its something wonderfull
so buddy i think you better come up with a good base for this guy
the buzz saw arm will have a spike shoulder pad and im debating adding a chaos flamer to the arm. maybe too much, then again it is orcy and they probally would do that. figure ill think about it all day at work and get to it later.
Hehahah was wondering where my bit box and beer went.
A meganob terminator Love it man. God I have to paint again but there are so many new video games!
As for the base don't worry I got something in mind. Doesn't hurt also having the base kit from GW lots of goodies in there. There is another option I raid your liquer cabinet er bit well bit room since you have a collection on lil parts and come up with a fitting one. Love it so far man very nice and honored. Looks like the ball will be in my court after your done to repay the favor.
my mind has taken off with ideas
i got like 12 other ideas i might work on after this
all "Clan Over'
the guy above is named "Over Complicated"
other members include, Overlord (warboss) OverStimulated (weirdboy) OverWorked (medic) OverTime (gonna have a long white beard and cain)
i keep coming up with new names and themes for them so i might be busy for a little while.
Got some work done. Trying to get off my ass to finish the Soul Grinder and Pirahna. Should be done today will have pics tomallow. Along with my attempt at a Tau Crisis Suit / Stealth Suit / Pathfinder / Kroot and a Hammerhead in the coming week.
Here is where the good baron is at. Dont mind the blood spatter on the legs feet. Some I will paint over though the boots I may not. Need to sculpt muscle lines an veins on the GS shoulder.
Any more ideas keep coming. I got lots more stuff to do. Also friend bought me a Ork Warbuggy. I am thinking the baron needs a chariot. So any voo doo ideas for the warbuggy or meganobz / killer kanz?
Ordering that feather for the hat. Heard ideas for a voo doo necklace anything else?
Finally worked up the courage to attempt my eldar army. Decided to learn and try wetblending....Ran into my first wall....The scheme I want for my eldar is phoenix / fire. Here is where I slammed head first into the wall.
Black is a great contrast color for fire but I dont want to over use it. Where do I put the wetblended parts on? The large plates only? I have a spectrum of fire colors perhaps on the model I should have one focus point as the hottest ie white and work out from there? The heraldry should be fire? fireball? pheonix? No heraldry ? The loin cloth should have heraldry? Where the hell....what the hell...need a lil help for idea's. I want this to be a bag of awesome dipped in uber sauce....right now its a soggy gak sandwhich with the occasional piece of corn.
All help and critisicm appreciated. Fully aware I should probably by the delay drying agent for the wetblending scheme.
Here is the soulgrinder where its at so far as another WIP...Trying to make the sword look like emerald. Not sure what technique to use. The black plating I have done like the armor of that nurgle prince I did a bit ago. Apparently this is the theme of his army. I have a large order of paints coming in. So just sitting back getting excited at the sound of a large engine and sad as it passes by my house.
Our bastard Post office is redoing the lobby. So my boxes did come in a timely manner. Unfortunately I cannot touch them till Wednesday I believe. Joygasm! To kill some time I am still trying to discover my Eldar Paint Scheme. SOOO here continues my wetblending learning experience. Comments appreciated and any help to wet blend better also appreciated..
I bought paint drying retardant and was impressed by how well it worked or the fact that the citadel paint didn't dry in 5 seconds.
So that makes a fire one, dark blue to white, and dark green to white. Next gonna try a lich purple to scorpion green. Dunno its a wet blended paint scheme I want for my eldar just no idea what color this armor plating should be....hmmm...
@1-i I want my bit box back!!!! At your earliest convenience of course How goes the over the top Ork conversions ya doing?
The fire one i my favorite of the Eldar. Honestly cant offer much in ideas for other plates to paint, though... Never painted any space elves before
Retarder's a wonderful thing though. I love the stuff.
There's also something called flow release that you might want to check out. Its an additive that reduces the paint's surface tension, so you can get the paint into cracks and details easier and get smoother coats. (I still need to pick up a bottle though <.< )
Anywho.... symbol for your eldar... i always imagined their stuff having an almost oriental feel to the texts... perhaps come up with one of those odd looking line art deals? (dont know how else to explain >_o )
Something akin to this (this is Hou-Oh or Phoenix, I think...)
or even a variation of this symbol from Air Combat (behind the text, but you get the idea, ja?):
Too kind sir. Actually I will use the symbols / letters. Great idea thanks again. I will keep my eyes open for the smoother I could definitely use something of that nature.
@starbomber109
Hahah my friends have commented already to me about forming Captain Planet (wraithlord) with all the variations. Going to be trying 3 more color combinations which I will post up this week and take a consensus of what I and most people appreciate.
----
So far though I am siding for the fire one. I digress, that is many steps ahead...first I will pick a color scheme then will decide how it goes on them. Keep the comments coming thank you for your time and support.
-Cheers
Edit: When wet blending I cant seem to find an answer on this. For each pass (going from one color blending to the next) do you clean the brush? or do you keep the blended color? (after a few passes it will become the blended one I think...
My friend satisfied with the way the pirahnna came to me with a proposition. Beer and paying for paint go a long ways
Keeping with his Skull White / Regal Blue Theme. Tackling a crisis suit...
This is a WIP...
I am fighting my ork tenancies to tin bitz the gun and dry brush boltgun....but Tau and metal colors work horrible together.
I plan on using a 50/50 Mix of skull white / water to get in the cracks to remove the blue / black. I plan on cleaning all the edges etc... Just to remove the obvious statements coming my way.
@1-i : That is amazing how well you made that orky. Impressed I am. The "green" wraith will have black on the arms / shins / spaces between the plates. The plates will carry the wetblend. The gun will be done like wraith bone ie Polished bone, washed badab black and highlighted skull white.
OverKrumpin is another ya can make ie focus on lots of melee weapons.
So, since it seems that Ill be posting most of my work in your blog rather than my own guess Ill add some more to it here.
(I kid at somepoint Ill update my page)
First up "Over Ord" head orc or something, figure hes riding a squig or whatever, if you dont like what you see i can still put him on two regular legs and call it good. Myself, I think he needs a hat.
Next up "Over Run" think im going to do the dust and sand being kicked up behind him as he runns for da WAAAAHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
"Over Lodedd" now this guy i need some input from ya, small base or big base. Call him a Loota or a Shoota but i just need to know what base to sit him on so i can deiced any other features to add.
and now we get to the model that really is the whole reason I took your parts box and started this
"Over Kill"
his base
and him on his base
so now im going to need your thoughts on the special weirdboy guy. I dont have enough snakes to do what my first thought was but I got skaven that are doing absolutely nothing, they are a rat race for WarhamFantasy. Im thinking that abunch of them could be carring the weirboy on an orc faced platform and he would be sitting crosslegged with his armin wavin around or sumthin. I figure that "nest of snakes" thing could easily be replaced with rats swarming, if you wanted a fluff reason to keep the rules in check with the Char. Probally best if we talk face to face on this one if you dont like that idea.
ha first try to add this didnt work, thank god i copied first for the quick paste
Yeah its been two months but the blunt of my work is tax season. Thats passed so yeah game on. Been painting the Tau Army and will have pictures of the fully finished army at the end of the ordeal before I go back to my voo doo orks.
*Remember you can click on the images to zoom etc...
Tau Stealth Suit / in transition *Tenatively Done*
Commander Far Sight W.I.P. *basecoats applied nothing more*
Need to finish the Kroot , pathfinder, and hammerhead next pending friends approval on my current test. Again, once I finish this army will return to my Baron Somndi....They orks have been giving me odd looks as of late. Thinking I became weak with the many gun clan.
No my green skin brethren I am mearly make your trophies prettier.
MeanGreenStompa wrote:Love the suit changeover, it does need wash and highlighting though.
Don't care for the Farsight paint job, but I hate metallics on Tau as a rule.
I like his blades though.
Oh God, I am no where near done on Mr. Farsight; that is his base coat only. His white cloak on the side is going to carry the insigna and blue color that the rest of the army shares. I have no detail on it as well (eye balls, blinky lights etc) My problem is I like the bronze(Shows great definition) on it but deciding if i should go desert camo or what. I do need some help with this.
As for the wash on the stealth suit suggestions? I am deathly afraid of washing on white. I have had lil success.
Frenzied Potato wrote:

...not since you already did the camo...unless you dont mind going over the camo again, after going over the white again, after you've given it a wash...

CSM friend bought me a Mega Nob and gave me a Troupe of Possessed to paint putting this up to show him where im at on the five.
Primed Black(spray can), Then painted(not spray can) whole figure Black to make it a richer black color, then Base Lich Purple, Dry brushed Rotting Flesh, washed Baal red, Dry brushed Elf Flesh...
Will have gold trim, Red plate, Red plate wet blended into the flesh tones where it meets.
Possessed W.I.P. #1
Yeah give you one guess why I do the flesh part first....Also a question, Any way to prolong the life of a drybrush? or am I gonna have to model a drybrush graveyard?
As always, criticism welcome along with opinions, thoughts and ideas.
-Cheers
Ok, it may be the lighting from front to back but the back definatly seems lighter than the front. Im sure that when I actually see the model in hand it will look ok but just thought Id point that out now.
btw, orc on a boar needs its base(es) done to match your army.
Guess its time we get together again, oh and I ordered some plasticard, the good time shall be rollin soon.
Four months , 1 new computer and a new program later I can update this blog to continue my struggle of paint theory.
Dont forget to click the pic to zoom!
I have to get some pics of work I have done for friends *possessed / trygon / carnifax / crisis suits * but till then here is my
STOMPA
Baron Somdi
[i]
Eldar Wraith guard[b] ( My 7th attempt at finding a scheme that I like )
As always, criticism welcome along with comments, ideas, thoughts. Saying anything would help. Hell even insults at least I know someone saw it.
I dont thing the new Wraithlord looksa that good, the gray IMO looks really like you just threw some gray and a black wash at it from a distance and then highlighted it.
The Baron is really nice though The same for the base of the wraithlord.
Sad part is I used astronimcon foundation then dry brushed deneb stone on it and threw a wash on it then small highlights. Damn good break down of what I did though
Running out of original idea's may just pick a faction and paint to the best of my ability instead of making up one. Suggestions? My orks or goff (Though slowly turing into some rasta theme ) trying to find a brighter contrast for my eldar army something that looks good on the wraith lords ( My fav eldar models ).
Yeah I like the lava bases only wish I could narrow down a damn scheme
1- Cant wait to blow up that stompa
2- Baron Somdi, well thats just james bond epic right now
3- That eldar armor, well, its a good base color and the gems are great but if the pipes and helmet were different color then I think it would work well. Maybe even some variation in some of the raised parts (shoulder pads, brass knuckle things) but I think we all can relate to the pain of custom color inspiration
4- I hate orc bikers.

Yeah it has been too long friend we have a very big game or lots of little games owed.
Well if ya roll well on the stompa's demise it can have a cataclysmic explosion
I think I am just gonna go through my Eldar Codex and just pick a scheme I like. My brain is over used customizing the orks.
There is alot of hate for those bikers sad I only got 3. Honestly gonna be picking up another ork start set so i can get more, boyz, and truks.
Small Update. Figured since about to play an apoc game:
