I own a full salamanders army from some Armageddon deal (3d edition). All infantry assembled with a base coat of paint and the predator sprayed green too... rhino and land raider unassembled. The plastic wrap is still on the landraider box. Played about 6 Combat Patrols vs. my bro's Alaitoc Eldar and now steadly slip in these models (along with the 5 or so necrons I have) for Cyberpunk 203x.

Did some as "major" space marine army:
- Black Templars
- Salamanders
- Raven Guard
- Iron Hands
- (space wolves)
and some as "minor" ??
based on:
+ Dark Angels
+ White Scars ( 5th ed )
+ Codex 4th ed ( traits )
+ Codex 3rd ed
Still, the marines from codex 3rd ed have the numbers on their side in comparision...
So, if major means "following official schemes and only using the chapter with the name of the former Legion/40k codex",
then I say 4 space marine armies.

I don't own ANY of GW's named SM armies.
My SM army is modelled on my other hobby - the 501st, and certain characters are modelled up as fellow members.
I've never really liked any of the chapters - but then I still prefer the mindwiped and reprogrammed psychotic berserkers over the knightly crusading orders.

Ultramarines - First army I ever got.
Black Tempalrs - Still under construction, and not actually a Black Templar army, just uses them as the archetype. It's DIY Black Templars really, representing a coalition of three Chapters (Golden Lions, Iron Knights, Storm Riders).
Deathwatch - Yes, an army with no rules, yet I have a complete Deathwatch army.

Imperial Fists all the way. I started Dark Angels, but they are just to bland. I love the way the Fists look on the table, yellow against the green board is worth the hours to paint them. I wish I had it in me to do another chapter, but I just don't think I could do it and do 'nids, which I can't wait to see in Jan.

Imperial Fists.
I like most of the fluff for them as a chapter, as they represent my own stubbornness and tenacity.
Plus, I mean, Yellow Marines. Come on.

Imperial fists too. The bright yellow chapter is amazing. The thing I really like is how they look on the table top. So many people have dark colored armies they really contrast.

My largest army are my own Crimson Lions that are a codex army although based on the color, for the longest time when I played a new opponent they would walk up look at the depp, dark crimson armorand immediately say, "Oh, you play Blood Angels!" To which I would always say, no they are my own Chapter, which are actually an Ultramarine successor.
The other two marine armies I play (currently) are the Black Templars as I like the Crusading, Righteous Violent Fanatics especially when they are kicking the snot out of one of the "Close Combat" armies such as Blood Angels, Orks, Tyranids or especially those panzy Khorne Berzerker types.
My third marine army is a small Crimson Fist force, however a fourth may be on the way as I recently painted up some Space Wolves for a friend and I really like the new models and I am very tempted.

I've got my own chapter, for now.
In the future, I might go for a major chapter -- I doubt blueberries, because they're too plain to paint. I'm thinking one of the chapters with a lighter paint scheme, just to be different.
My custom-chapter Chaos Marines, once I get them started, will also have a fairly light paint scheme.

its all about the relictors, i started with tau back in school but then moved to relictors as they are the underdog that still cares, seeing as they have been excomunicated i have a few choices depending on which codex to use:
1. pre-excomunication (around armagedon or after crusade) - use a chaos list so i can use deamon weapons and use a chaos sorcerer as an inquisitor
2. crusade - strait up space marines, pretty boring
3. post-excomunication
a - a rag-tag group taken in by a radical inquisitor, use the deamonhunters with space marine support
b - a chaplain heavy group of crusaders trying to redeem themselves, based on the black templars codex
c - a group of relictors who found protectioin from an also excomunicated techpriest making defiler-esqe walkers powered by deamonhosts, replacing the heavy tanks lost in the chapter's base destruction - using a chaos list, defilers, a techpriest (using a gifts to represent his cool tech) normal marines represent the relictors, chosen are the techpriests experiments/skmatrii, and of coarse the two legged defilers powered by deamonhosts.
so many choices

2 rhinos
2 predators
1 vindicator
5 dreadnoughts
These are all being still painted.
And yet i'm trying to make a titan for them. alot of stuff but very cool too look at.
It is Do it yourself chapter. their name is the Storm crusaders and they never stop. I should really start a blog. -.-

Grey Knights are the creme de la creme of space marines and honestly should be included...
On a logistical note: CSM have daemon allies in their armies, which compromise their marinitude, and the GK's have the same issue with having inquisitorial elements.

My Dark Angel Successors are called The Ranger Lords. The Imperium knows them as the Ranger Corps because they number 500 marines over 1000. They are a successor chapter to the Dark Angels, created out of secrecy, the founding supported by a High Lord of Terra who wished to remain unanimous. Only about ten Marines in it's Inner Circle know about their Fallen Brethren. The Chapter recruits from three planets in the Equitol Lex sub-sector. A sector on the southern fringe of the Imperium. They have two strongholds within the sector but are a fleet based Chapter due to them being called on missions throughout all of the Imperium and sometimes beyond. Currently, their fleet consists of all three classes of frigates, two strike cruisers, and two battle barges. They are currently residing in Southern Tempestus with elements from Ultramarines 5th company aboard the Internecio and elements from the Space Wolves Skyclaws company led by a Veteran sergeant Svengal Gorillafist, who dearly loves his little brothers and is doing all he can to keep them alive long enough to be promoted to another company. They operate aboard The Wolf of Fenris whom the Ranger Corps have recently helped the Space Wolves to resecure from the Red Corsairs. The 1456th Imperial Guard Regiment has been lent to the Ranger Lords for their next mission, recapturing of Sub-Sector Gralphi which includes 3 forgeworlds. This odd retinue of Dark Angels, Ultramarines, and Space Wolves are heading their at this moment. What kind of adventure will they get into? Who knows, but we'll hear from them soon. They are in transfer at this time in the warp.
For those of you who didn't get the not so subtle clue...I own Dark Angels, a few ultramarines, and a few space wolves.

My own chapter, the Iron Templar, are obviously a successor to the Imperial Fists. Only a portion of the Chapters that attend the Feast of Blades are known, so I figured "what the hell?" Their origins are the Third Founding, another shadowy period of time. I placed their planet in a system near Ryza, and their fighting style is multi-fronted attacks that throw enemies into disarray. They are at roughly two-thirds strength after losses from Chaos warbands, Dark Eldar pirates, Orks headed towards Armageddon, and Leviathan splinter-fleets.
The Iron Templar consider it a matter of duty and honor to aid other Imperial bodies. Their diligence is most commonly rewarded with gifts of wargear and holy relics, including superior plasma weapons from Ryza and prized artifacts from indebted Chapters. Vulkan He'Stan even personally forged a Thunder Hammer for Captain Brennus to thank him for coming to the defense of Nocturn when much of the Salamander's forces were required elsewhere and a necron force was detected just over a parsec away.

I own a custom chapter which colour scheme is metallic red with crusade symbols of templars. They can be played as Vanilla marines, Black Templars and BA as their color scheme fits very well.

I have a couple marine armies (currently working on art-scale Flesh Tearers) but I'm definitely to the point where I want to expand my horizons. Maybe re-paint my Tau.... ...start that Adeptus Arbites army I've always wanted... ...start an Eldar army.... ...so many options. +++Mr.M+++

None at all. While I do like Space Marines as fluff (eg in the computer games) I feel that too many kiddies play Space Marines in the tabletop So I have a heart for the underdogs!

My third army collected was Space Marines - Imperial Fists, chosen for the bright yellow color!
I also figured, why not tackle the classic, everybody has a Marine Army, anyways. It also provides a different playstyle from other armies.

Imperial Fists.
Didn't want to do the blue boys on the box. I read the codex entry for Lysander and loved the story. Yellow seemed like a unique color for an army, though I don't do the red aquilla.
I went for SM's so I wouldn't have to buy a lot of specialized units. Budget army: every unit can take a tank, a mob, or a walker. Or they could if I learn to stop rolling ones.

Don't be silly. Just an act lol.I play GK. I am a fan. I have wanted to collect them since I saw them in the rulebook, but was discouraged by metal as I had never succesfully built a metal model, and the poor codex.

I've got a big force of Space Wolves, and I can run a good number of Dark Angels (I use the same army for both books, mainly because I want to run an all-Terminator army and Wolves can't do it for any reasonable price )
