[40k RPG] The Cult of Volcarth [Inquisition Roleplay] @ 2010/03/25 17:32:51

Post by: Darkvoidof40k

Just nicked this from another forum. YES IT IS MINE! But it isn't picking up, and it hasn't done for about a bazillion forevers, so here we go! Copied from other forum:

Righto, let's get a few things straight: this RP isn't like the others on this forum, it's in the more 'traditional' way of forum RPing. It works like this: we all fill out forms for our characters and post them back, and when we have enough people, we start. Other people may join after this, until I say otherwise. When signing up, please make sure that you will be active on here! [atleast 1 post every two days]. If you're on holiday or something else, then you can be exscused, but you cannot, for instance, get a character everybody wants then go off for 10 weeks! [10 weeks...? w/e]

Now, onto the actual way we do it, the format that this RP is in is writing. It sounds pretty dreaded, I suppose, maybe, dunno. But it really helps you to learn to touch-type [woot me] and developes your imagination, and it's pretty damn fun! That's the whole point, really; to have fun with everyone else. There are a few rules, and... well, here they are:

No Godding - this means no super characters, making impossible things happen [unless you actually can do that somehow]. Basically, you can't play GOD and be a super 'umie!

No killing other peoples characters [without their permission] - kinda self explanetary, no?

Swearing and abusive language - of course your characters may use these kinds of words, but don't over do it! Or even more importantly, DO NOT EVER DIRECT IT AGAINST A REAL PERSON!!!!! Edit: Maybe just use 40k swears instead xD

Don't post anything that doesn't belong here, we all know what I'm talking about.

No double Posting - you can't post twice in a row! Edit your previous post!

Use OOC and BIC - Out Of Character and Back In Character

Max 1 Character per person... unless we get desperate >.<

That just about covers it all, methinkeths?

Now, heres an example of RPing in this format:

Darkvoidof40k writes:
Heron jumped the rocks, and spun around, letting off a shot with his plasma pistol. He dived behind a boulder as another stream of shots came from his persuers. "Damned Heretic cults; always outnumber you with the accursed replaceable grunts" He grumbled. Risking a glance around the rock, he was almost hit by a searing las bolt, and the rock was scorched next to his head. He dived back. Glancing round more carefully, he saw about half a dozen figures, in dark black and red robes, with hatchets, las weapons and other feeble weaponry secured from the PDF's that'd done such a great job against them a few minutes back... Pressing a finger against his right ear, activating the minor communications implant within. "Jervold, what's you're status? I'm pinned down here" he told his accomplis. "Uh, well we're having some difficulties with the..." Inquisitor Heron cut the Imperial Guard veteran off mid-sentance "I don't care if you're waiting for orders from the Emperor himself! Get down here!" He barked. The vox went silent and Heron rolled out from behind his cover, coming to a halt and firing a shot from his pistol. He watched as the top half of a Cultist was vaporised, the remains collapsing to the floor. He glanced up behind him with a start as he heard a loud shout of violence, to see an armoured figure standing above him that was almost double his height. He bit his lip as the Chaos marine raised his axe, shouting praise to his false Gods...
but Heron brought his right leg round the traitors legs, knocking him off balance; and leapt up at his assailer, knocking him down. He drew his powersword and impaled it in his foes' torso. The evil Marine let out a grunt of pain, then began to laugh. He then headbanged the Inquisitor in the face with his helmet, and pushed out with one of his legs, sending the dazed Inquisitor flying, leaving his sword still in the torso of his foe. He hit a rock with a crack, and fell on his front. He turned over wearily and drew his Pistol, and cursed all that was unholy as it overheated; dropping it before it burned his hand. The chaos Space Marine was standing up once more, and Heron watched on in horror as he pulled the Inquisitor's sword from his thiegh, and advanced towards him, letting out cruel, evil laughter.

RPer 2:
Jervold sprinted along, bringing his Plasma gun to bear. He held the trigger down, sending several blasts of blue plasma towards the Marine. One shot hit home, searing through the traitor's powerpack to the other side. As the Marine collapsed, he saw his master lying on his back, blood trickling from his nose and mouth. Further on, he saw five robed figures. He ducked as they sent shots in his direction. Suddenly, the sound of Las shots was replaced with that of bolter rounds and screaming cultists. Looking up, he saw a circling Valkyrie, and watched as ten figures grav shooted down to the waiting Inquisitor and him.

Darkvoidof40k writes:

Getting up, Heron walked over to his rescuers. "What took you so long, Garson?" He laughed uncharacteristically. The Storm trooper sergeant said "Well, sir, couldn't let you take all the credit - although it seemed like you had those cultists almost defeated. They never stood a chance." Replied the soldier. "Watch your mouth, Sergeant, you're still under my command" was the reply of the Inquisitor, all note of jest gone from his voice. "Now, we must move onto our primary objective; time is short."

And so on, and so forth.

Now, onto the plot:

Marco Heron is a young Inquisitor, but an ambitious one. He always showed a lot of promise, having studied as an Acolyte under the notable Inquisitor Farquarl, finishing his training shortly before his master's demise. His first calling as an Inquisitor draws him to the far out planet of Volcarth; a Hive World also rich in minerals and littered with Manufactoriums crucial to Imperial Guardsmen in the nearby sectors, located in the far north of the Ultima Segmentum. There was a shocking discovery when a shipment of Lasguns contained the Taint of Chaos, resulting in the entire Volcarth II regiment of Imperial Guard having to be purged by Grey Knight Terminator Squads. However, with the Inquisitors spread thinly, Heron was one of the only people left to deal with the matter, the Inquisitor Lords considering it a low priority and thus only requiring a lowly Inquisitor. Although Heron was briefly insulted by this, he quickly surpressed his wounded pride, and set out in his ship, Faithful Workhorse III, a run down second hand Aquila class shuttle that he'd managed to requisition, along with an Ecclesiarchy Priest by the name of Zafron. Upon reaching the system he exchanged brief plesentaries with the planetary Governors, then ordered his shuttle's pilot, Lietenant Arthur Briggs to dock with the Imperial Guard cruiser in orbit of Volcarth in order to secure as much information of the planet as he could. With this task done, he was returning to his shuttle when he was met by three Imperial Guardsmen by the names of Carter, Jervold and Tarkis, who'd been spared the 'cleansing' of their regiment. He enlisted them to his band along with a Deathwatch Space Marine called Haxion who'd been operating in the system with his squad, however he was the sole surviver of the purging of a Tyranid Genestealer group on the third planet.

mmmhmmphkayz, the characters and who's RPing them:

Inquisitor Heron - Darkvoidof40k
Imperial Guardsman Carter - Inquisitor Lord Bane
Imperial Guardsman Tarkis - Commissar NIkev?
Imperial Guardsman Jervold - Gorskar.Da.Lost.
Ecclesiarchy Priest Zafron- Katavas
Deathwatch Brother Marine Haxion - Kharnflakes
Aquila Shuttle Pilot Lietenant Arthur Briggs - shas'o vera

Okay, if you guys want me to add more character slots, or if you have suggestions for any, I'll consider them. After all, Heron is on his first mission and he's pretty DAMNED lucky for what he's got! Shuttle Pilot, why is he in there, you ask? Well, who knows what might happen, he could well end up as the hero! Xd Now, you say I've taken one of the strongest characters, the Inquisitor. Well, this is because he is my character after all, and it's not just about Rank or strength, it's also about creating really interesting characters; try to make them as human [unless your the Deathwatch marine, of course] as possible! Or when I say Human I mean, appropriately for who the character is, of course. Or maybe I just mean make them as 'realistic' as possible... as realistic as 40k goes anyway...

If you want to play a character from above, then tell me, for here are the profiles of the characters:
I've just put in the basics, whoever plays them just copy 'n' paste their form into your post and fill in the gaps that I've left up to you guys...

Utterly loyal to the Emperor and his Primarch before any others, his companions and battle brothers next. In times of great stress he can be heard reciting the Rites of Battle to himself in a low even tone almost like a cadance.
Appearance: He has deep brown eyes and his nose looks like it may have been broken on the right side of his face. There is a scar that runs from cheek to eyebrow narrowly missing his eye, which he got in a fight with one of The Fallen. His foes' chainblade cut into his helmet, narrowly missing his eye. It caused only a flesh wound, and Haxion then delivered swift retribution, returning the Fallen Angel to the Emperor's light.

Skin colour: Slightly tan.

Weapons and equipment: Laspistol
Skills: Flying stuff.
Brief History: Nothing to say really, he graduated from flying school with flying colours, his shuttle is his pride and joy, no one touches it, he spend roughly 3 years flying the thing and he knows it inside and out. He can fly other craft as well, such as the famous but ubiquitous Thunderbolt.
Other:

I shall add some other characters as they become available later on in the RP E.G. the Stormtroopers in the example section of RPing. Also, except for Haxion I guess, we're all squishy 'Umies, and squishy things go squish quite easily. It's just a matter of not getting squished, you see. Easier said than done with a thousand screaming Cultists trying to rip out your throat. Also, Haxion. He's a Space marine, yes, but there is gonna be some CSM's in this, so even he's gonna be outnumbered by those of equal or more skilled. So don't go jumping to be the most powerful character, because it's a big responsibility, and he doesn't have as much character as the rest of the characters in my opinion... or atleast he shouldn't, so keep that in mind. BTW, for the armour scheme of Volcarth Guard, it's red armour with... uh, I guess darkish grey combat fatigues.
That about covers it all, no?

I await replies....

Worst is a matter of opinion. Welcome aboard, Lieutenant!
Don't worry, I've already got a plan for this character to allow him to get himself into trouble (xDDD) so he'll get in with the action. Just to make sure he doesn't get too screwed, I'll send one of the IG off to help him. I'm surprised you read all that, most people probably don't - hence the lack of anyfing. We'll get started soon.

ALSO! TRY TO MAKE YOUR POSTS AS DESCRIPTIVE AND DETAILED AS POSSIBLE! (long posts are nice as well) - this goes to everyone and anyone.

As for the Deciever, now I think about it, it can't be, its 'the emperors chosen' must be a morphing assassin.

Zafron
Gender: Male
Planet of origin: Hive Planet Thor VI It is a forge world governed mainly by the Mechanicus
Skin colour: Deeply Tanned due to the relative close proximity of Thor VI to the major sun of the system
Age: 42
Height: 6' 4"
Personality: He is generally wild and has a small attention span, is known to be rather abrupt and loves the thrill of the fight even when he is not the one doing the fighting.
Appearance: Long deep green robes cover the Flak Armor and in his left hand is the Eviserator on stand by ready to be called to battle and in his other it is open.
Weapons and equipment: Robes, Flak Armour, Eviscerator, Laspistol, Prayer book.
Skills: Quick reflexes for a human even one trained in combat, he excels in pyshic combat combined with his Eviscerator and his mind not much can stop him in the realm of fighting another human, xenos and heretics a completely different story, all and all he was designed to fight up close and personal.
Brief History: Joined a training school back on Thor and was discovered as a slight pysker with good potential was called off the world by the Black ships and now works for the Inquisition whenever, and where ever he is needed.
Other: I hope it is okay for him to have slight pyrotechnic abilities if not that is okay with me was just wondering because it would give my character a little more depth.

Well, Katavus, good to have you aboard! But psyker abilities? I'm not so sure... otherwise he'd be a psyker and not a priest. So maybe his psychic potential is too small for consideration, and he's just a priest 'cause :p. Other than that, good character! If you ever read those Inquisitor battle reports that were way back in a few white dwarfs, three or so somewhere between issues 250-270 definitely. If so, that's who the priest is modeled on. Kharnflakes, (did you ever consider calling yourself khorneflakes? xD) I like the idea of searching for the fallen. It was the first thing that crossed my mind when you said Dark Angel. It will, of course, result in my Inquisitor and your Space Marine eventually... well, y'know. Both will want to take a fallen angel for interrogation and whatnot for their various agency's, and if the Inquisitor pulls rank - well, that should be fun. Need a couple more people!

OOC: okay so how about little to not pyshic powers but what little he has is telekinesis? If nothing else it is simply something that amplifies his strength, example, he uses his mind to push the end of Eviscerator to create a stronger swing? if not that is fine okay cool thanks.

No point using OOC yet. There's no BIC lol. Anyway, you can use his psychic ability here and there, in little, subtle ways I guess. We'll talk about it more later as the roleplay progresses. In the end it's all a bit of fun, but as long as noone spoils it for others

NEW RULE FOR THIS RP: HAVE FUN

Only the Guardsmen left............... just 'cause they're squishy? I mean, not even the plasma gunner's gone yet... then again he'll probably melt his own brains out. Then again.... IG should have this rule:

THICK SKULL: 1+ invunerable save against anything that involves their head, i.e. destroying their brain with mindwar, or penetrating their skull.

They are the last three of an entire regiment y'know guys. Now that Inquisitor Ker-Bleh whatshisfacename has taken command of them, they serve the Inquisibbibbletion.

Thanks for joining guys, we'll get this under way A.S.A.P.

Well, provided it works for the plot.

Anyway, here's the basis for a new character someone can play: A Lieutenant in the cult on Volcarth. Hence, I can still control the overall flow of the RP to make sure everything goes as planned...hehehe.... while letting everyone react to it a bit more. So, if anyone wants to create a cultist character, feel free. I'll get round to pming you the information you need, like cult structure and the locations and whatnot... But ATM I'm seeing relatives 100 miles away from my home, so we can't start just yet.

Jason Tarkis
Gender: Male
Planet of origin: Volcarth Prime
Skin colour: pasty pale
Age: 33
Height: 5'3"
Personality: Tarkis has a very aggressive personality, caring little for subtlety or discretion. His narrow minded way of war and dislike of cowardice has lead him to have few friends. He is given a wide berth while not fighting chaos or xenos as he is very quick to anger. Despite this, his various squad commanders have always been able to rely on him in a tough situation as his slightly unorthodox methods of fighting are valuable in urban warfare. His temperament holds him back, though, as if it were not for his hasty nature, he would be a sergeant by now.
Appearance: Trooper Tarkis would, if not for his highly violent reactions be the butt of many a joke due to his stature and also the short red hair that is relatively uncommon in his regiment. He has a large acid wound on his back from an accident in his early life.
Weapons and equipment: Shotgun, combat blade, Flak Armour Frag and Krak grenades.
Skills: While Tarkis is not a leader and never will be, he can more than easily hold his own against the majority of chaos hordes in close combat. He has modified his shotgun slightly to improve it's range and power.
Brief History: Tarkis was born in the outhabs of the main hive of Volcarth Prime, where, from a young age he had to make his own way, stealing money and food off of the more wealthy. At an age of nine, Tarkis was caught stealing from a priest and taken in as an orphan. The priest sought to teach him how to be a better imperial citizen, however much of what the preacher told him was forgot as he ran away with an old friend, aged 15. Some of the priests messages sank in though as four years later, Takis joined the imperial guard at the recruitment office. While in the guard, he proved to be a more than capable soldier and as a result spent a lot of time with RIP. When Henron and the grey knights started cleansing the chapter, Tarkis escaped the cell he was in for minor brawling and aided the inquisition by shooting many of his former fellow soldiers. He was found by Henron himself fighting off his ex-platoon and Henron, impressed with the troopers abilities and recruited him to his retinue.

Nice stuff Nid Dude. But, 'Henron'? Mah Inquisitor's called Heron, matey. Anyway, other than that, pretty good stuff. Tbh I was planning on getting you better Shotgun ammunition anyway... But hold his own against the majority of chaos hordes in CC? Guard ain't so good in close combat, and sure this guy'll probably mess up any cultists, Daemons and Chaos Marines --- uh-uh. Well, looks like we're almost ready! One more character to go, and then anyone else who wants to join can make their own characters, with a little help from me.

Hehehe, just had a funny little thought that'd create a real twist. Infact, now I've had another one. Mehehheheheheh!

First one, maybe someone would like to create their own Inquisitorial Dude + retinue, that of course they RP demselfz.

Also, the other twist I will not reveal, but it's somewhere in Heron's background.

Effilion Rexus
Gender: Male
Planet of origin: a planet which orbits no sun (Classified)
Skin colour: Grey, with the obvious blue veins visible.
Age: somewhere between 50 to 80
Height: six foot four
Personality: Effilion is a horrible character, an assassin who’s become renowned amongst certain circles as the worst possible way to kill someone. He delights in the pain of others, his preference pyskers. Effilion was brought up to hate all pyskers, and as such, mistrusts all 'gifted' people. Being a Culexus, Effilion sparks revulsion within anyone who spends prolonged contact with him.
Appearance: He wears a night black synth skin and a combat harness over the top. Attached to that, is three psyk-out grenades, a combat knife, and a 4ft monofilament back assassination blade. In addition to this, Effilion also has his Animus Speculum, and his bladed fingers. Whenever he's unmasked, It is noted that his face resembles the skullish mask he wears, with sunken eye sockets, and stretched skin. He has no lips or eyelids... He's a nice guy to meet in a dark alley *nods*
Weapons and equipment: Animus Speculum, Assassination blade, Combat knife, psyk out grenades.
Skills: He's an assassin....
Brief History: He was thought to have died on the planet Pyranda IV, but he's back, and he's got some new tricks.
Other: Effilion has a new found respect for the 'grunts'. He will probably stick up for them, when noone else will. (good ol' Hazzard!)

Right, you can all start RPing now! I'll write something up later, but for now you all feel free. Start as if we're on board the space station above the planet. The space station is called Salvation.

Kharnflakes wrote:ooc - Awesome character Ghosty

He replied over his shoulder, "no, I thank you for your service, Astropath. I will be here again next week."

I've just realised, you write in the present tense. RPing tends to be in the past tense oO. Ah well, whatever suits you. The above is just how I would've written it, and I'm just using your post as an example - please stay literate people.

Macro Heron walked along the station halls, the ancient stonework on its interior was only bested by its defenses. Yes, he thought, this is a fine installation to be sure. He came out, onto the busy esplanade. There were many shops here, and people were bustling and shuffling about their daily business. It was unlike most Imperial stations, in that the community was very relaxed and informal here - a fact overlooked by the administratum and the Ecclesiarchy probably because of the planets' large output of weapons, food, minerals and many other wonderous things. The populace here indulged a lot, but the Inquisitor did not have time for such things. His sole purpose was to rid the Imperium of Heretics, Daemons and Xenos. He heard a scream and looked towards the direction that it came from - a women had just seen Brother Haxion walking past, and had been startled. There was now quite a crowd gathering - most of them probably hadn't seen a space marine before, if even heard of the Adeptas Astartes.

Carter sat in one of the many chapels on this station, deep in prayer to the immortal Emperor. He was trying to figure out his ultimate purpose, why he had been spared years of war, and the ultimate destruction of his regiment. So many good men dead, so many that he served and lived with. Was it to die serving the Inquisitor? That would not be a bad fate he decided. The Inquisition were the fingers of the Emperor Himself, keeping the evils of both mankind and the galaxy at bay. Here he was serving a much higher purpose then back in the guard. If Inquisitor Heron wanted Catrer, then by the emperor, he would have him. There was no more need to have doubt. Not now, Not ever.

Carter Stood up after a final prayer, faith burning deep in his eyes as he went to go find his lord...

The marine's instincts kicked in at the sound of the woman's scream. In what seemed like a blink of an eye both his combat blade and bolt pistols are in his hand, as he turned towards the woman ready to leap into action . quickly realizing that he was the cause of her scream and holstered his weapons . he gave the woman a quick nod " carry on then" as he headed towards the inquisitor

Awww why shaso!-.- you had to go post that up didnt you? I need to do revision too, and ive been ignoring it till you went and said that. Curse you!

I may be pulling a shaso aswell now. But ill occasionally post sporadic text here and there.

ICeddler Aurrus watched fervently as the hulking figure of the space marine passed, breath caught in his mouth. As the giant disappeared from view, amongst the crowded market, the drug peddler turned back to his client, a man called Grathas.

“So, how much ‘Slaught did ya want mate?” he inquired to a sunken eyed man, who convulsed violently. The more the trader looked at the man, the more it worried him. He couldn’t quite place the reason he felt uneasy about the man, but the desperation in his eyes, the need for another high, it scared him.

“I g-got me 7 creds. How much can I get for that?” The quivering Grathas stuttered, spittle forming on the edges of his drawn back lips.

Aurrus’s unease was quashed by the business man within him, and instinct kicked in.
“What? Do you think im some sort of charity? Shove off, or ill report you to the ‘feds.” He sneered at the misshapen freak, and pushed him away. The feel of the druggie’s clammy flesh sickened him to the touch, and he recoiled away. The addict growled and started to utter a series of undecipherable, words. Instantly, Aurrus felt his strength waning, and blobs began to flicker in his vision. He staggered, and tried to swipe at imaginary phantoms. The Psyker Giggled malovently, and concentrated. He felt the drug dealer’s consciousness dissolve away to nothingness. The man was now his to control.

The dead eyed Aurrus handed over his entire stock of ‘slaught to Grathas, and then proceeded to begin to eat his own hand. This pleased the addict, and he laughed mischievously at his work. As he turned to leave, a sudden feeling of unease washed over him. A horrible feeling of dread formed in the pit of his stomach, and he realised he had relieved himself in his trousers. A shadow clad figure dropped from the shadows above, and landed, with cat like grace in front of him. The assassin walked slowly towards the addict, and he found himself paralysed and with fear. As the culexus stopped before him,
And in a last attempt of defiance, Grathas threw his psychic might at the assassin. What he found however, was a void. This man had no soul, and his mind was like a brick wall. The druggy tried to scream, but no words would come. He just stood there, unable to move, as the Culexus began to skin him alive…

Jervold
Gender: Male
Planet of origin: Volcarth III
Skin colour: lightly tanned
Age: 48
Height: 5ft 11in
Personality: Bat-s£$% crazy, but otherwise quite a nice gentleman
Appearance: black hair, unshaven with a few days worth of stubble, fairly skinny, tattered uniform, strange trinkets and trophies from his various battles on it.
Weapons and equipment: Plasma Gun, Combat Blade, Flak Armour Frag and Krak grenades.
Skills: Other than a passable knowledge of battlefield triage, the only other factors that make Jervold useful are his skill with the plasma gun and his complete disregard for danger due to his lamentable mental condition.
Brief History: Jervold went insane after a long and otherwise average career in the guard due to the amount of stress the wars put on him. Ever since, he has displayed a strange disassociation from reality as well as mild specific psychopathy towards Eldar and Tau.
Other: Has a sock puppet with two mismatched button "eyes" (Lord Percival Jarren) who he consults from time to time.

Sorry about the lateness of this, Dark, I totally meant to get it done sooner.

Zafron had been in the service of the Inguistion since he could remember, which brought him great joy when he thought about it. He had been on countless escapades with his current inquisitor, who was his second that he had served with. He had quite the honor of serving with an Adaptes Atartes which was always something that brought him great joy. Zafron was currently in his camber which was his favorite pastime. Seclusion, isolation and most importantly quiet, which was the most essential part of his meditation. He just awaited his orders would do the emperors will so long as he could.

(let there be roleplaying!)

Jervold sat, hunched over a dog-eared copy of the Munitorum guide and several ration bars, and pondered. He knew it was around here somewhere, it had to be. He had put it down for a second, just a second. It was around here somewhere. He peeped under the desk.
"You won't find it there, lad."
Jervold started, banging his head on the desk, and emerged with a curse or two. Lord Percival was waiting for him, scrutinising him coolly from next to a mug of caffeine.
"Damn it, milord, don't sneak up on me!"
"Hardly my fault, my boy, is it? You were too engrossed in your search to notice my arrival."
"Maybe so, milord, but unless you are planning to assist in the search, I suggest you start looking at the Munitorum guide and familiarising yourself with the use of a laspistol. Gonna get rough soon, you've got to be ready."
Lord Percival seemed to frown, his button eyes glancing down at the guide.
"hummf, not sure I'll be taking part. That chap you answer to, he doesn't seem to like me. He'll hit the roof if you try to tell him that cockroaches have attacked you in your sleep again."
Jervold stopped sifting through a pile of clothes, and looked up at Lord Percival in shock.
"you can't NOT take part! That's treason to... well... me! Besides, I don't know how to reload Bessie alone!"
The Lord sighed.
"Oh, all right then, dear chap. For your sake. Incidentally, have you checked the... refuse that litters your table yet?"
Jervold froze, then with a shriek of glee dived at the table, scattering the various pieces of equipment and food infesting it. He lifted his prize in triumph; a small silver lighter, engraved with the symbols of the Aquila and the regimental banner of his old company. Yes, he knew he'd find it in the end. Now he was ready to remove the enemy: Cockroaches had infested his apartment. He grinned.
"They might survive being stood on, but I doubt they will survive las-rounds."
Lord Percival looked alarmed.
"You can't be serious, my lad. Please tell me you aren't serious."
Jervold's grin didn't reassure him one bit.

Dude, there is no direct or obvious enemy, the planet is completely oblivious, and just something you should know; the planetary governor of Volcarth III is an Imperial General, but I 'spose it makes sense that someone would be left in charge while he goes running around the galaxy dying.

Seriously, though, no troops have been mobilised. Like 10 Grey Knight Terminators did the cleansing of 5000 odd IG aboard that ship. Other than that, it's only Heron and co. doing any digging around. If there was an open enemy, they could just fight them - wouldn't need an Inquisitor particularly much for that now would you?

Oh, no, it was brilliant. Very grimdark, and quite fitting for a psychotic ass-ass-in. <=== yeppers.

Marco's senses tingled, and he had felt the same unease only once. Surely it couldn't be.. the Inquisitor shook all doubt from his mind; if it was, he could potentially be in a lot of danger. He let out a passive psychic burst, essentially a giant beacon saying "psyker here". If there was one of them here, he would rather make it easy for him to be found so he could confront it, than be shadowed, followed, watched. At its mercy. It was unlikely that one would be here for him, but unlikely that one would be here without his knowledge, and there was little reason for the Officio Assassinorum to send one here.

Every inch of his skin had been removed and thrown against the wall, but despite the pain, the blood loss, and the terror, the addict still breathed. After a brief trip to his apartment for his lasgun and overcoat, Carter strode though the crowd looking for the Inquisitor. After 20 minutes of walking through the crowds of people, he saw him standing with an Astartes, backs to a wall, looking for a fight. Carter then too up position within sight of his lord, and sat at a bench, lasgun leaned agaunst him with the coat over it, as not to attract attention. Attempting to get the Inquisitors notice without being obvious, he bobbed his head and just stared at the two, hoping that one of them would feel his stare. "Somethings not right" he muttered...

"My Lord..." Haxion began, and pointed as he gained the Inquisitors' attention. "Ah, one of those guardsmen." The Inquisitor notioned for the Veteran to come over, and the man did so. "Carter, was it?" Marco lowered his voice. "There may be a threat to me here - an Assassin. And don't just let yourself think of someone with a simple sword or gun, oh no, this is far worse. It is best you do not delve any further into this, however, atleast not yet. I propose we go to a more secluded area - the Assassin is unlikely to reveal himself here."

"M'lord, are you sure there's actually someone after you?"
"Do you doubt me, Guardsman?"
"No, of course not... it's just.."
"Then follow me. I appreciate this all sounds a bit unlikely, but trust me - I am the Inquisitor here, after all."

The trio left the busy esplanade, and walked down the corridor that had hundreds of doorways, leading to some insignificant person or anothers' living area. Then Marco felt it again... He stopped, and so did the others, as if they could feel something as well. Marco scryed down the long walkway, but there was noone there.

OOC: enter: Ghosty! Have him pop out of an air vent above our heads or something. Just so there's no confusion, this is an area with about a metre and a half from side to side. It's a long corridor with doors every 10 metres or so, leading to living quarters.

His targets were moving down a long and tight corridor. It would be difficult to get the drop on them with the astartes making a rearguard action with his impressive bulk blocking the way to the target. Effilion glided along the air duct hanging just metres above the trio, judging all the possibilities. It was clear to him now, that this was an inquisitor, and one of significant repute to press gang a marine into service. He subtly probed the edges of the targets mind, but met predictably stiff resistance. Smiling to himself from within his mask, Effilion decided to separate the inquisitor from his charges. Arching his back, he tensed his muscles and prepared to leap forwards, like a coiled spring. Timing had to be perfect, but Effilion had long ago stopped doubting his abilities to judge distances, time, and walking speed. Just as the inquisitor passed a door in the corridor, the assassin made his move. Uncoiling and shooting down from above like a torpedo, he collided with the heavily built man and sent him flying through the door, into some scum’s living quarters. As he landed, he rolled and slammed the door behind him with but a thought. The inquisitor cursed heavily, and pulled himself out of the wreckage of what had once been (before his collision with it) someone’s bed. The room was dark, and he looked around desperately, trying to sight his quarry. Know one was in the room, but he felt great unease. Then a shadow detached itself from the wall and walked into the pale light filtering in from behind closed blinds. Effilion stood before the inquisitor and cocked his head to one side, before the animus speculum on his mask opened up, and a target beam found appeared between the targets eyes.

++ Greetings inquisitor, I suggest you explain to me why you were advertising yourself to me, before I burn you pious soul from your body++

"I suggest you tell me why you are here without my knowledge, and why you would dare threaten me." The Inquisitor replied.
"Assassins do not just stroll about space stations for the fun of it, and there is no other Inquisitorial presence here, so I see no obvious explenation for your being here. And while I am fully aware of the skills you possess, do not underestimate me, assassin."
Marco drew his power sword from its sheath at his side, and the crackling energy running up and down it lit up the room, so that the two figures could more or less make each other out. Marco took a step forward, towards the Assassin, but the figure tensed, a faint spark flashing from within the dangerous cannon attached to its shoulder, and he stopped.

Never one for subtlety when the direct approach works just as well Haxion draws his pistol firing at the door the explosive round taking the door clean off its hinges. striding through the door as the smoke clears he presses the pistol to the back of the assassins head. " give me one reason not to seperate your head from the rest of your body. " he glances over at the inquisitor and nods slightly as realizes he is unharmed

The scene unfolding quicker then the blink of an eye, Carter brought his lasgun to bear and followed the astartes through the doorway, stopping behind him with a bead on the "thing" attacking his charge. "Blood and damnation!" Marco cursed. "I guess this one's learned a few new tricks" he mumbled under his breath. I'd like to know how he did that though, the Inquisitor thought. Probably some blasphemous technology - nonetheless, he may proove useful in this investigation.

Haxion and Carter looked almost equally surprised, although the space marine had his helmet on so it was impossible to tell by expression; however, he was glancing about, poking his gun into every hole in search of the Assassin.

"M'lord, you alright?" Carter asked.
"Yes, Guardsman. You will speak of this to noone other than those other two guardsmen, you understand? If word gets out of a psychotic skull faced killer..."
"Yes sir." Carter interrupted.
"Good, I'm glad you understand the depth of the problem" Marco replied.

OOC: Lol, he really sounds like a cockney. If you don't want him to keep talking like that, tell me.

Mad! They said I was m-mad! AHAHAHA! Whose the mad one now! Ok sorry, it’s been a long day.

So I wonder how I should jump said persons again. Without your muscle coming in and spoiling the show...

EDIT: 3 hours later, Effilion landed planetside.

IC: Effilion sprinted along the roof tops; he had never felt this alive in his entire life. Even before he had been taken, he hadn’t even dreamed of feeling this free. Vaulting over another chimney stack, he landed with a crunch on scattered masonry, and then he was off again, leaping from roof to roof. If he had lips, Effilion would have smiled at his new found freedom. Effilion leaped across a street alley, and grabbed hold of a jutting gargoyle. He clambered on top of it, and, presently, he was sitting on its head, watching the citizens go about their daily activities. Effilion flexed his bare arms, and marvelled at the way the muscles rippled. Never before had he noticed his body’s strength, but now…

After a moment of reflection, Effilion spread his thoughts outwards from his vantage point, searching for another pysker to vent his loathing for them onto. He soon found one, a street urchin, which had no idea of his own abilities. Effilion set off in the targets direction, with no small amount of glee.

Jacob serowinch lounged at the side of the street, amongst the refuse. His soot stained and grimy clothes stank to high heaven and his unwashed hair shoe with grease. Occasionally, as a man or woman with a particular pitying look about them walked past, he would mumble “Spare me some change, guv” But it didn’t seem to have the desired effect. He hadn’t eaten for days, since the rat he caught nibbling his toes, and he was well on the way to starvation. Jacob blinked and rubbed his eyes. He was getting restless, so he decided to go for a walk, get some fresh air. Walking briskly down the alley way, he watched with bemused shock as a squad of arbites sprinted past. He managed to glean what little information he could as they ran past. Something about another flayed victim found in market row. Sighing, Jacob strolled down another alley way, which, he noted was deserted. Smiling through stained, crooked teeth, Jacob looked left and right, before he unzipped his flies, and set about relieving himself on a nearby wall. He was about halfway through doing his business, when he felt a sudden revulsion overcome him. More so, he felt something cold and dead form in the pit of his stomach.

“Bloody hell, I hope that rats not gonna go repeating on me”

Jacob pulled his trousers down and set about emptying himself of rat stew. He picked up a nearby newspaper, and flicked through it for a bit. Then a shadow formed over him. He looked up from his newspaper and stared in shock and terror. A tall, muscled man was standing in front of him, with a skull mask, and a deadly looking piece of archeotech mounted on his shoulder. He also had a long black blade drawn. Jacob guessed his time was up, but he decided to make the most of it.

“Err, hey guv, you got any respect? Can’t ya see what im doing? Wait at least until I’ve finished before you kills me, yeah?”
Effilion stood there staring. The kid seemed to be scared, but not like the others he had killed. He seemed defiant, and at ease with the situation. It actually amused him. Effilion sheathed his sword, and, turned his back on the Urchin. There was a polite cough from behind, and Effilion turned back round. Jacob was holding a stub gun and pointing it straight at Effilion’s face.

“Alright guv, im guessing you’re the alleyway flayer? Im right aren’t I? Well im not really in the mood to die today, but if you got some change, ill take that right now. Im starving.” Jacob said, and to emphasize it, he cocked the hammer on his pistol. It all seemed to be to amusing for Effilion, who began to chuckle darkly.

++Little urchin. That gun isn’t loaded, and what’s more, I don’t even own any money. If I want something, ill take it. Understood?++

Jacob sighed melodramatically, and tossed the gun to the side. “Meh, I ran out of bullets for the thing about a year ago. So you gonna flay me or what?”

Effilion just couldn’t make sense of it at all. The child should be clawing his own eyeballs out in his presence, throwing up, screaming for help. Not just standing around, even trying to mug him. One thing was for sure though; Effilion was NOT going to kill this kid.

++ Im not going to kill you, but im going to kidnap you, if its all the same with you?++

Without waiting for a reply he grabbed the urchin by the neck, and vaulted up onto a fire escape. He clambered up to the roofs, and began to make his way to his lair.

OOC: okay, he may be acting un assassinly, but ill explain, have no fear. Basically, when he died, he was brought back to life, by some mysterious hooded and cloaked man. He told the assassin he was free to do as he chose. Effilion then got off world and found himself here. He’s also finding that his new found freedom has awakened some latent psychic powers, and also emotions that were psycho conditions out of him. Now as for the currant development, Id rather if you didn’t butt in all guns blazing Do your usual stuff, maybe run around like headless chickens, but I request you do not find my assassin.

"Just what were you trying to do, burn down the barracks?"
The sergeant's face was a picture of rage, his moustache bristling, as Jervold stood, looking a little embarrassed, and tried not to think too hard about what had happened. How was he to know that the floor would burst into flames if shot with a laspistol? It wasn't as if he'd tried it before. Well, not with a laspistol anyway, he thought, as he looked at his plasma gun. At least he had got that cockroach.
"Emperor damnit, man, you could have caused a catastrophe! It's lucky Wilikins was passing by!"
A few minutes later, Jervold found himself thrown unceremoniously from the sergeant's office. Perhaps it had not been a good idea to tell him that it was Lord Percival's idea.
Jervold picked himself up, and decided to wander around the town. Who knows, perhaps there would be something to eat there.
"Sounds like a plan, my lad."
Lord Percival nodded to back up his statement.
"You think so?"
the sock nodded again.
"Yes. After that keelhauling the sergeant gave you, I feel some sustenance is necessary."
That settled it. If Percival thought it was a good idea, then it was a VERY good idea. Jervold set off, whistling tunelessly, and fishing in his pockets for the last bits of that week's wages.

He's no inquisitor lord!1!111! He's a newbie, this is his first assignment as a full Inquisitor... although by the Spehss empra by the end of this RP he will be! Also, nobody knows about what happened here... we could just say that the Arbites found the druggy psychic and the dude who unwittingly ate his own hand and were searching all levels for the man responsibible.

^ I can spell. Delibirate OOC spelling mistakes = lawlz.

Also, realising*.

Marco turned as the Arbites stormed the room. "Halt, Arbites. I am Inquisitor Heron. What are you after?"
"The lead Arbites spoke up, "there was an... incident... on the esplanade. We're looking for the responsible person."
"That will not be necessary - I shall continue the search personally - just double security sweeps on the station and the space ports. Search all ships that want to leave orbit."
"Yes, Inquisitor!" The Arbites replied, and as his squad began to leave, Marco called, "And Arbites, you will know you have found the culprit because all your men will be dead."
The Arbites squad had uneasy looks on their faces, and as the stalked off they muttered quietly to one-another.
"Haxion, he is after me because he is a Culexes Assassin - trained Psyker killers. He needs no more reason to kill me other than my psychic abilities than I need reason to smite Heretics. That does not mean he is only dangerous to me, however. I am quite sure he could easily tackle even you, Haxion. Now, let us leave this place." The Inquisitor replied, and then the trio walked out of the room. Marco deactivated and then sheathed his Power Sword.

Arbitrator Gunnan was having a bad day. First of all, he had been put on patrol with a green recruit, who seemed to jump at the slightest clang of the iron yard. Probably psyched out by the ghost stories of this place. There was no element of truth to them, of course, but this place was eerie. The recruit in question, a kid nicknamed Spook kicked a tin can absently. It clanged loudly, and before he realised what was happening, he was on the floor with a knife at his throat.

“Sarge! Wh-what are you doing?!” he stuttered, panic stricken at the suddenness of his superiors actions.

“If you give away our position like that again, ill stick my boot so far up your arse every time you swallow, your gonna taste leather. You got me?”

Spook nodded vigorously, and picked himself up from the floor. “I thought you didn’t believe them stories? You said they were just used to frighten kids from coming in here.”

Gunnan however, had stopped moving, he was staring stock still at a mound of garbage, or, more specifically, the top of said mound. Spook looked up to the point. There, standing in the moonlight, was a black silhouette. Spook felt terror like never before. He began to shake violently, and nudged Gunnan. The arbitrator slowly, as not to shock anyone with sudden movements, reached down to his comms link, and switched it on. In a harsh whisper he spoke into it, eyes never leaving the figure.

“This is arbitrator Gunnan, me and spook have a problem, requesting back up please to sector 3b.”

He switched it back off, and slowly backed away, Pulling the green officer with him. Then the figure disappeared. He blinked furiously. But it was gone.

“Kid, this doesn’t look particularly good. If someone’s stalking us, they aint gonna be the savoury sort. And very very few unsavoury characters I can think of can move that fast. So were, gonna, nice and calm mind, move back to the entrance, if you spots anything, you shoot it. And then, you run.”

Spook glanced at his sarge, he was obviously shaken up by this appearance as much as he was.

“What do you think it is?”

“Lets hope its ghouls; I really really hope that’s all it was”

A shadow detached itself from the gloom nearby.

***

In the morning, carter cycled through the different wavelengths of the planet below, and the space station around him. Amongst the nonsense, and the static, he heard a small message from the arbite command.

++ 2 missing arbites, yeah Gunnan and Spook. Last transmission from the scrap yard. Yeah, we checked it out in the morning, we found a couple of shell casings. Yeah, okay, yeah. We’ll send a transmission to *shhhhtkkkkkk* ++

Carter decided it was best to report this to the inquisitor straight away. Something felt decidedly unsettling, about the whole thing.

The Inquisitor had an anxious look on his face, as he replayed the transmission for the third time. "Thank you, Carter, for bringing this to my attention."
"Your welcome, m'lord" replied the guardsman.
"The Arbites have a pretty tight grip on the planet... Carter, go planetside and meet up with your comrade... Jervold wasn't it? Then go and check out that scrap yard. We are, after all, looking for any sign of taint in the populace.. if there is a cult on Volcarth, then I intend to investigate every lead we get."
Marco turned to Haxion. "Brother-Astartes, you and I shall travel to the surface also, and visit each manufactorum on that planet until we have found the cause of the corrupted shipment of supplies that lead to the cleansing of the 2nd Regiment."

Jervold was eating a sandwich. It was good, as sandwiches went. The meat wasn't dry, and there was a nice sauce in the middle that went well with the meat. All was good.

Jervold's vox-bead hissed, barely audible. He tapped it, wondering why it was hissing. After a minute of tapping, he remembered he had turned the volume down on it. Perhaps that was it. Jervold turned it up.
"hisssssssss-THE HELL ARE YOU, PRIVATE?"
Jervold yelped, and tore the thing out of his ear, holding it at arm's length. Once he felt brave enough, he brought it closer to his ear.
"Private, get back to base, or I'm having your arse put in front of a firing squad!"
Jervold didn't need telling twice. He broke into a loping run, making his way back to the barracks. Lord Percival appeared, looking groggy and slightly dirty from his nap in Jervold's pocket, and looked at the nervousness on his friend's face.
"What seems to be the fuss, my boy?"
"We're wanted back at base, Milord. Sarge jus-"
"Say no more, lad, I understand. Best get a shift on!"
Jervold hurried on. His gut was telling him this was bad news, and his gut didn't lie often. He hurried on.

Also, ginger nid dude is being completely 100% useless as far as this RP is concerned, so anybody know a person who'd like to take part in tis RP?

Tarkis
Gender: Male
Planet of origin: Volcarth Prime
Skin colour:
Age:
Height:
Personality:
Appearance:
Weapons and equipment: Shotgun, combat blade, Flak Armour Frag and Krak grenades.
Skills:
Brief History:
Other:

As ginger nid dude wrote it:

Haxion nods towards the inquisitor, then proceeds to remove his helmet . "if we are going to the surface i'm going to need to stop by my quarters briefly for the rest of my gear." a thoughtful look briefly comes over his face, then he lets out a chuckle "renegade assassins, corrupt guardsmen, and here i thought this was going to be a boring posting". he turns and heads towards his quarters calling over his shoulder as he goes. "inquisitor if we are expecting close quarters combat... i'm going to need something more than a bayonette."

Rank - Fire-team Sargent
Loud out- The usual Guard Squad load out. Las-guns, knife, pistol, grenades, and some crap armor.
Bio - Nikev was recruited from the Nucian Narons, a regiment from the world of Nucia. Nikev is a proud sergant that stops at nothing to get the job done. He is very understanding and knows between what is right and wrong.

OOC: Okay, so Dark, My Bio epically sucks...but hey, just tell me if this is cool and I'll just start with a story.....otherwise tell me and I'll edit it to something more......tasteful.

Effilion crouched in the pouring rain. He had been tracking his prey for several days, through the streets, and over the rooftops. The Planetary governor was responsible for shady dealings, and it seemed he was a latent psyker. The assassin had spent a long time mapping out the mans daily routine, and was capable of striking the man down whenever he felt the need. But he was going to wait. Give the imperium that had taken so much a chance to save one of their own. But if they were going to stop him, they were going to have to work fast. The clock was already ticking, and the first of his trail of breadcrumbs was rotting away on the space station still….

C arter wandered down an alley absently, kicking a bit of loose trash out of the way. He respected the inquisitor, but he sometimes wished he wasn’t so brutal. The mans interrogation methods….they left little to be desired. It was then he noticed the smell. It was a cloying disgusting scent that made him feel queasy. And it was originating from a nearby dustbin. Approaching it carefully, lasgun raised, he prepared himself for the worse. He removed the lid, with one unshaking hand, and rammed the butt of his gun down into the confines of the bin. A wave of stench slammed into him like a brick wall, and he staggered back in shock. A swarm of flies exploded out of the metal confines, and landed over Carter’s face, feeding on the sweat on his brow, and nestling within his nose and mouth. He screamed, and staggered back, before firing blindly into the swarming insects. The fire roused the nearby inquisitor who raced to his scene, the heavy set marine crashing along in tow. They skidded round the corner and found the guardsmen clawing at his face, trying to remove the bugs.
Marco took stock of the situation for but a second, before he released a pulse of energy through the alley. The flies dropped from the sky, and began to smoke. Carter had his head between his knees, and was breathing heavily. Marco attempted to calm the man, by patting his shoulder reassuringly. “What…..were….they….”
Marco looked grave. “Warp Flies. Where did you find them?”
The guardsmen shakily pointed over at the bin, before vomiting on the floor.
As marco approached the now forboading looking bin, Haxion laid a heavy hand on the shaking guardsmen.
“Do not feel weak; the foul denizens of the warp have this effect on the best of us.”
Marco had put his hands into the bin, and pulled out the remains of someone’s skin. Cut into it, was a rough outline of the stations layout, with a small x cut into a certain point
“A clue, perhaps. I think our assassin friend is toying with us….”

Nikev had been training for a few days with his squad. He wanted to be sharp when the time came. He knew that he and his squad would not fail the Inquisitor.

After finishing their training, Nikev thought it would be good to go out on the station with the men and have a drink for a change. He thought it would be good for a change to get out and see some of this station that he was at.

OOC: yea.....so far I don't know much so this is the most I can safely post.

"You've been called to serve, private."
Jervold instantly knew something bad was going down. Normally, the Sarge would still be purple with rage about the earlier incident. He wasn't. If anything, he was paler than usual.
"You're to be sent up to the station. Get your kit, you'll be under the supervision of higher power than mine."
"Sarge, wh-"
"JUST DO IT!"
About fifteen minutes later, Jervold was on a dropship headed for the space station. Lord Percival slipped out of his pocket, and, seeing the Sarge wasn't around anymore, looked up at him.
"What the devil was that all about, lad?"
"We have to go find a guy called Heron and listen to his orders now. Dunno why, Sarge wouldn't tell me."
"Oh."
"Yeah."
Outside, the space station loomed closer and closer.

Nikev walked out of his bunk with his squad after cleaning up from the training. "So, where are we headed?" Nikev asked his fellow squad leader Daquire. "Well, I hear there is a nice bar called Pheser's Fazers. Its never too crowded and the guy definitely doesn't water down the drinks like these other places. But its closer to the slums so not many of the average drinker wouldn't risk going there, not even for a good drink." As they walked out of the military zone, there were stands lining the corridors filled with trinkets, useless items, and cheaply made things. As they shifted through the stalls a man running as fast as he possibly could, running from some atrocity, Smashed into Nikev knocking it over. As Nikev fell, he threw the man off of him and the man tumbled knocking into some more people. "THANK THE EMPEROR! THE GUARD!" the man said as he ran up to Daquire. "Woah now buddy, we aren't the PDF." "But you must help!" The man implied "There was a man who made this other man eat his hands and then some creature skinned him alive! ALIVE! It was horrible! Nobody will believe me! Please tell me you believe me!" the man was on his knees pleading for Daquire's interest in the matter. Daquire looked over at Nikev "I think we best go get our ge-" "No!" the man interrupted "There is not time! You must hurry!" with that the man began to run away from the Guardsmen. "Well" Nikev said looking at Daquire "all I have is a laspistol and knife" "Same here" replied Daquire "after you". Nikev flicked him a quick smile after running after the man.

Blending in nearby, Jason Tarkis heard everything. This may actually sound like it could be fun. Something to do at least. Jason thought to himself as he took off after the trio.

The shuttle docked with a clang, and Jervold swore, jumping in his seat. He hated it when they did that; it always felt like a giant had kicked the shuttle. Gently, he unbuckled himself from the seat, and swayed awkwardly down to the disembarkation ramp. He stopped, nodded to the officer there, and handed him a button. Then he moved on, leaving the confused man to make his own decision as to what to do with it.
"Hello? Does anyone know what I should do now?"
The staff passing him by just shrugged, and walked on.
"oh, okay then."
Jervold decided that there was only one course of action. The cafeteria on this place must be properly scouted and reviewed, as if he was to be stationed here, he wanted to know he would get a good meal. With that objective clearly in mind, Jervold sauntered on, grinning at some of the passers-by.

Everything is going just as planned, thought Cerobius. They squander about, chasing that mewling Assassin, which is only delaying their real purpose of being there. It matters not anyway, one stripling of an Inquisitor and his rag-tag retinue are no match for what is to come.
"Lord Bael!"
The call brought Cerobius out of his thought. The hulking, ten foot figure did not turn, but simply continued to stare into the warp screen showing him the planet of Volcarth.
"What is it, Santos?" he replied, in his deep and powerful voice.
"Shall we strike? We could crush them now! That planet is no ma-uargh" the Lieutenant was cut off, as Cerobius spun round and gripped him by the throat, and lifted him a metre off the ground.
"You dare doubt me? You are but a miserable lackey, begon from my sight!" he shouted, the words coming out of the vox-unit in his millenia old helm. The hulking figure threw Santos down, the power-armoured figure sliding across the metal floor with the painful shriek of metal scraping on metal.
Cerooobiusss, you are quick to damage my playthinggssss!
Cerobius Bael did not respond to the voice, meerly turned, looking back at the shifting 'screen', the comforting noises of the shifting flesh-walls of the cavern and the sound of Santos retreating out of his master's chamber.
