Ghostys inq28 - An Update!?  @ 2010/05/09 17:10:28

Post by: ghosty

hey everyone A couple of weeks ago, i began contemplating whether or not i should start playing necromunda. Me and my friends have played 40k to the point where we started using the phrase "Im off to my mates to play 40k" as a cover for going out and getting slammed. Anywho, on one of these drunken spree's, i mentioned that we should start playing something small scale. Now this was about a year ago, and between then, we have tried out Warhammer skirmish (always good for a laugh) Legends of the old west (I cant recommend this enough. Was a great laugh) and a bit of kill team for 40k. The latter really sparked our collective interests, and we really enjoyed the narrative of it. Either way, our collective addiction to it became heavily influenced by zombies, and before long we were playing games against swarms of the undead - defending a small house, running through town, resupplying on fuel, food and water, or even just hunting undead. Soon we began converting up some models to represent our foolhardy heroes...

http://s662.photobucket.com/albums/uu349/ghostfish0/?action=view¤t=P1010033.jpg

http://s662.photobucket.com/albums/uu349/ghostfish0/?action=view¤t=P1010034.jpg

These are my two, recently remodded to have some pimp'd weapons. They were a bane to many a zombie until sadly they got muched on in our most recant game. Either way, i had a laugh with them. Now, as i said before, in the last few weeks i have been seriously considering necromunda after being inspired by Arhibald Jack, Shockwave, and of course Migsula, and have decided to take a plunge and give it a go. It did help that Archibald has a huge stash of rules for it and that the core rules are free!

So im still up at arms as what my group will be. they're their to satisfy my urge to make something different, whilst at the same time be fun to play with. So far, its down to escher ( who are pretty nasty in combat), ratskins (who fit the theme the best) and Scavvy ( cos.... mutations could really be useful). Now i'll leave you to contemplate what they could possibly be, though it could be pretty obvious. Incidently As well as modelling and (hopefully) painting, i'll be spamming fluff, battle reps (if i can get good light to take pics) and of course, helpful revision stuff (You could argue that starting a PM blog with GCSE's and an AS level coming up soon is a bit bad, but... i dont really have an excuse. sorry. )

So, Until next time my chums. Im off to revise for a biology mock ( the synoatrial node controls the heart beat by sending electrical impulses across the atrium, until it hits the AVN, which sends the impulses down the bundle of his.) All the best.

Intriguing... Try to get some more variation in your poses though, these two, besides from their equipment almost look entirely the same in the way they're standing.

I shall be watching. And reading. -searches GW for downloadable rules-

Also, those look like metal catachan models with a few conversions. Either way, still looking very good.

Ok, sorry for a profound lack of updates. I forgot to mention due to procrastination and revision for my exams, i'll be posting somewhat sporadically.

Anywho, onto the pictures. Now, as you may have seen, my gang will be a take on the escher gang in necromunda. However, as much as i like the models, i wanted to do something unique(ish) and different. So the kroot gang idea was born. Now, this gang is far from complete, and i have yet to create any juves for it. However, this is my gang so far.

This is the finished kroot so far.

This is my current gang leader. He is technically standing in until i buy myself a kroot shaper miniature, which will be after the exams.
If it cant be made out by the picture, i took the time to mercilessly gouge out his eye, and make him a pump action shotgun.

Another view of the leader.

This guy is my favorite so far. He took a uncharacteristic amount of cutting and glueing, and a large blob of greenstuff. His head is made out of a kroot, and a skaven plague monk. I also tried to make a poncho. What do ya think?

This guy is supposed to be the leaders body guard. The final gang will have another like him, who will essentially follow the boss around, taking shots for him The arms i found in my bits box, and i have no clue where they came from. Any ideas?

Ok, thanks to archibald jack, i got some rules for having dogs in your gang. Now the basic rule of thumb, is that they have to have a handler. So what better idea than to have a kroot/hound pair, who will (hopefully) infiltrate and cause havoc? I tired to make him sit in a cool squatting pose, but i didnt pull it off very well. Only other thing to point out is his left hand, which is converted from the zombie hands.

This is the second, and i plan on having a third. I envision this one as having just shot down some prey (no doubt a milliasaur or something), and he is now running over to finish it off, with his knife.

Ok. Now i need your help. Here is my next ganger i made, who is the second kroot armed with a lasgun in my gang. Im not sold by his pose, so feel free to suggest a different one.

And finally, this is my WIP female kroot. To understand it better, heres some quick fluff about them i gleaned from a different forum. "The female Kroot have spines that go right down their backs (unlike the males that just have it on their heads arms and legs). Rubbing those spines together is how they pass the genetic material. A Small pouch on the back of the female kroot (sorta like the pods in the gremlin movies) keeps the young safe till they are ready to be spat out."

This is why i removed the spines along the kroots arms and legs, and tried to make the arms and legs thinner.

The female also has some of my own changes. I recall a source that said male and female kroot are generally very similar, but i couldnt help 'softening' the kroot facial features, in an attempt to make it look feminine. Additionally, i gave her some boobs, but i tried to make them as realistic as possible, by giving her a metal bra thing. If the picture doesnt visualize this very well i'll remove the arms that are just blue tacced on. Another change, was i made her thinner at the waist, which i gather is unable to be seen, and i also shortened the quills coming out her head. I thought that basically they would be used for displays in mating seasons by the male kroot, so it wouldnt be as prominant on females. Ill take a picture of a male kroot head next to the female head ASAP. Oh one other thing, do the arms cover to much of her body, which may cover my first ever bit of sculpting?

Now, what do you think of my gang?

wow those kroot are cool. I started a necromunda campaign (already 5 players) and i decided it would look cool if i created special rules for a kroot gang(something a la ratskin-ish-

Female Kroot! That's pretty neato. I'm stealing your idea and doing up a whole unit for my guard.

I like the idea of the female kroot as well, probably wouldn't have gone for the metal bra myself, maybe more understated boobs with a cloth wrapping around the chest to match the usual kroot torso coverings.

Have you thought about what weapons you will give your heavies?

I've found that kroot legs take to converting and .reshaping real well so don't be afraid to hack and slash!

Keep it up the good work, can't wait to see some paint on those suckers

I run 3 Nec gangs (cawdor, orlock, and redemptionists) and the best weapons around for heavy and special conversions are the imp guard plastics. Definitely start with the plastic heavy stubber first if you can, its one of the cheapest heavy weapons and really does the trick.

When you convert one up post it...im really digging the kroot/escher gang idea.

You've done some really cool things with them! I especially like the dog handlers idea, very predatory
One thing I would personally change is the female one though - I've always though kroot look like vaguely reptilian birds, and neither reptiles or birds have breasts, so i reckon it's a little jarring. I quite like the lasgun pose on the one you're not sure about too - what don't you like about it? Great job - looking forward to seeing them painted up

@ Scrazza - thanks for the tip, i reckon the running kroot will probably get his foot bent a little bit, as his running pose doesnt look hugely convincing atm.

@ Baconfat - thanks ^^, not really sure about a female tau though :S its been done before, and to make it look nice, it requires alot of skill >.>

@ Blackhand - Why thank you, and i agree, a leather bound bosum would probably look alot better, however, im not really good at the whole sculpting thing at the moment, and i was hugely paranoid that if i tried to GS it all, it might of ended up like those female marines with massive trianglular boobs 0.0 In saying that though, it hink they came out quite nicely preportioned...

@ XxRVNGRDxX - Yes, in most circumstances i would have gone for a heavy stubber for a starting weapon, but sadly disaster struck. Basically whilst drawing up my gang it occurred to me my heavy couldnt afford a heavy stubber. So he'll be running round with a flamer for the time being.

Finally, @ Scarper - You know what? I completely and utterly agree with you. Neither reptiles nor birds have breasts, and it doesnt huely fit their anatomy. But, you must also appretiate, trying to convert a said A-sexual alien into a convincing female is quite difficult without the obvious breast inclusion. Believe me, it WAS the last thing i added to the model, i tried everything else first, but she just didnt look female enough. Now, the second lasgunner seems a bit, well thin, if that makes sense. Im thinking of giving him a poncho like the first one. But i wasnt sure of the pose in general, does it look natural?

Oh, in general, does anyone have an idea of how to convert up some juves? in my list im running four of them, but i want them to look like kids, as opposed to normal kroot. I have no clue as of yet, so anything goes.

Oh, well that was a bummer. was hoping for more comments >.>

Awww, my heart sank a little when I read that. Sorry for the delay in comments/feedback but I have been mighty busy with clients and getting prepped for the move into my new pad. Thanks for the mention as well, it's good to see that migs' and the other 'munda fans are inspiring others to put together gangs.

The kroot gang so far look wicked, even the female model with her mad max-esque breastplate. Will she feature a brighter skin tone to further accentuate her sex? Also, for your juves you should shave down or completely remove the spines on their heads - as if to imply that the barbs grow over their lifetime and their size indicates that they're juvenilles. Additionally you could cut down the legs and shorten the arms some - but with four models that could be fiddly. All in all a kroot gnag based on escher skill tree would be wicked to play against - I look forward to some updates and battle reports in the future, I will be paying particular attention to how the hound fairs on the field.

Darkvoidof40k wrote:My friend, more than three Juves never ended well for anyone (as far as poking my head around dakka has proved).

I wonder, did you take autoguns on some of your 'gangers' because it is probably the closest thing to a kroot rifle, or credit wise? o.O IMO lasgun is the best basic weapon there is.

Also, you may have Kroot, but just wait till you see some of the Ork v Orlock games I intend to post.. hehe. BTW there are ork rules out there FYI.

But yeah, your list is seriously lacking any firepower. While it's not particularly 'krooty' to carry around heavy weapons, you could say one of the strongest Kroot took a -insert name of kroot gun mounted on the back of the krootox... possibly a 'krootox gun'?- and walks around with it. Could be a H stubber, or better a heavy bolter or best of all (fluffwise), an autocannon.

-checks Rulebook-

Well, considering the only H weapons escher can take is the H stubber and heavy plasma gun (<= fun ) then.. ugh.

Perhaps, you should use a different houses' weapon list to represent them?

Cawdor would be good to represent the shootyness... but just meh. I'm sure you'll agree.
-checks Rulebook-
Y'know what, I've been thinking this awhile, and it seems I'm right (IMO). House Goliath are the best house to represent the kroot, IMO, because they have a large array of CC weapons, which is great for kroot! And as for their shootyness, their array of "bullet" weapons is good for Kroot, considering the types of weapons they use. The Autogun is probably good.

So, IMO, I'd use the Goliath weapons list for kroot, and give the heavy an autocannon to represent the krootox gun. The "gangers" would have any of the CC weapons listed for 'em, although some would make more sense to have than others. The Autogun is the best choice to represent the Kroot guns. [/endpost]

Yeah, I said it on your other thread. But it is appropriate here, too, I believe. for those conversions!

Those Kroot look great. I can't tell if you added the back spines for the female, but besides that, I think a more colorful paint job would make her stand out from the boys. Most species have one gender or the other with more color or something to make them more eye catching than/to the other gender.

As for the Juves, have you tried thinning out their spiny bits? Something that might be too much work (for me at least) would be to shorten their body parts to simply make them smaller, but just a little.
I think thinning the spines is the best bet. That and a softer paint job to make it look like the baby bird feathers.

I also rather like the pose of Kroot w/lasgun 2, and that tip about bending the squatting kroot forward at the toes is a great one.

Ok, i blaintantly lied when i said i would post up the picture, but its only because i found it under a pile of books, irreplaceably crushed. It seems my gang is doomed to fail :(

In other, and lighter news, i played a zombie survival with my mates today It went well, and, as it was my turn to be the evil mastermind (My characters died in the last game) im proud that i managed to pull down the cleanup team, and devour them. Thats one less annoying NPC unit to worry about

Now i just need to take out the damned valkyrie, and they'll be trapped!

Post by: ghosty

Ok i lied again, i AM going to post some WIP pictures, after i recieved a gift about 5 minutes ago.
As i said in my previous post, i came home from school, and found my heavy had slipped and fell to the ground, only to be crushed in an avalanche of books. I showed my dad with a heavy heart and forgot all about him, and, to my shame, the entire gang. Its just the whole experiance hasnt been very furfilling- First My models are nicked, then my heavy is smashed, then some snotty kid at the GW said they looked gay.... When its not raining, its pouring apparently.

So first on my list is only a slight change. I showed you my second kroot, the one with the lasgun, and commented on how i disliked the pose. Even after your reassurances that it looked nice, i wasnt convinced, so i changed him. I think it conveys a nice MGS snake pose theme. What do you think?

I think it looks ok, but im still not entirely happy. Maybe i should just scrap the modal, and remake another lasgunner?

Im not sure if these two entirely deserve to be counted as updates, but.... *shrug*

Essentially, i realised that the majority of my kroot had the closed mouth head variation, which i think looks cooler. However, this has led to me using it more than the other heads, which would be fine in normal circumstances, but in a two head variation gang, it makes things difficult. So, he changed his head.

The other minor change, was on my origonal lasgun kroot. He's fine, except i wasnt pleased with the GS filling on his leg. To remedy this, i made a strap that covered this, and attatched a knife. I think it works.

Your oppinions?

Now, for a little story that i'd like to share with you. As i previously mentioned, i gave the remains to my dad, or, more came and showed him, in a bit of distress, and he was shocked and confused as too how the kroot ended up like this. Now, it was eventually blamed on the cat (damn furrball!) I then left the obliterated pieces where they were, and forgot about them. And, as prieviously mentioned, the whole gang - i just felt like giving up. However, my dad, he was not in the same frame of mind as i was. It turns out, that he used to make alot of airfix kits in his time, as well as made a few sculpts. Who knew?! Well, after i left, my dad's brain went into overdrive, and he worked in secret, on the heavy. A devestated leg? No problem! a half mulched face? Easy! A horribly scarred body? Cover it with plates! Essentially, he rebuilt my entire Heavy, to a standard well above its origonal. He also put it in a cooler pose. Well, he gave it too me just now, and, well.... I love my dad

So heres the pic's of his masterpiece.

and an alternate pose, showing the ingenious use of a fuel can, that was lying in my bitz box, that he cunningly cannibalised.

And if thats not all, apparently i had left the house a couple weeks back with my laptop still up, with a google search of Kroot Vultures, and my notebook with ideas scribbled down. Now, my father, dutiful as ever, set himself a target to make me one as an after exam presant. I honestly dont know whats got into him recantly. Maybe a hint of nostaligia perhaps? Maybe he just found himself enjoying modelling. Who knows? So, he also showed me the vulture, which is mostly done, it just needs bird feet and wings apparently. I think its absolutely amazing. What do you guys think?

Oh, that image doesnt show off the work on the back. I think this one shows it more clearly.

Proud of my dad? Yes. Not bad for a break from modelling thats longer than my entire life. Now, we have the problem of feet and wings. Namely, we dont have any. Anyone got any ideas for where to obtain bird feet and wings?

PS. I love my dad!

Very nice stuff here. I particularly like the first lasgun-armed Kroot. The extra clothing suits him somehow. The heavy also looks very sharp, though might I suggest adding some armor to the thighs? Or perhaps some flame-retardant cloth? The legs look a little bare compared to the rest of the model.

Right. So i gather this thread died a long time ago, however with the help of some Post mortem connections (Cookie to anyone who gets the reference) I have been able to bring the thread kicking and screaming back to life. Some might call this threadnomancy, but I call it giving the thread a spring clean.

I apologise for the extreme lack of updates, but, well i have no excuse except fro some sheer laziness on my part.

So onto the pictures. You will be pleased to know that I got off my lazy backside and decided to paint up my Kroot, and this is the fruits of my labour. I went for natural colours, as i cant be having with red or blue Kroot.

So this one was my test. I think it looks pretty nice, and I even attempted weathering on the knife and lasgun. Of course, it's not a great shot for this, so I'll upload some more shots later.

This one here is a PIP. I haven't got round to highlighting the skin yet. You'll also notice his heads missing. Im honestly not sure where its gone, but i gather my cat may have been snooping around them the other day...

Another PIP. Not sure if it looks that great at the moment. Im considering skin variation on the back of the body, but im not very steady handed, and I suck at blending. Does anyone have any ideas for a way round this?

Incidently, i forgot to snap some pictures of my Hounds, both of which are finished.

My next Kroot is a serious WIP. Now, you may recall a long time ago i was rambling on about entering a Necromunda campaign with my Kroot with the intention of winning best converted leader prize. Well, I won, but sadly I didnt win Best Converted gang on account of using Imperial guard as Proxies for my Juves. I still haven't cracked the Juve Code, as i have an image of what i want them to be, but i can't find anyway of bringing it to life.

So this is the leader, in his glorious state of rage.

This was my first real foray into sculpting with GS on a major scale. I had to rebuild his entire Pelvis area from scratch, as well as sculpt Musculature onto his arms. The effect i was trying to achieve is a Kroot which is a bit Genestealer-ey. This is why i changed the leg shape (To be more akin to a genestealers) and tried to emulate the genestealer pelvic area. He's also got the venomthropes tail and a mouth full of teeth.

Pelvis shot. Lots of Greenstuff.

A shot of his face. A apologise for the slight blur, but my camera isn't that great.

So from this angle you can see the musculature i tried to do on his arms. Im not really that happy with it, but it was a first attempt. The kroot also has a ring pierced into his back, inspired by the ogre kingdoms piercings.

So thats all for now, I hope you enjoy this update, and dont forget to leave a comment!

Looking good with those conversions, Ghosty. However, I don't really know whether it's the lighting or not, but the skin on your painted Kroot looks really brown. I thought they had a sort of darkish (not the right word.. muted perhaps?) green colour for their skin. Then again, just living off the refuse, scrap and whatever else is alive in the underhive (that lives off aforementioned refuse, scrap, and also waste or whatever) might have a sort of sickening affect on a species that absorbs DNA from what it eats..

Keep this stuff coming! Although what I'd really love to see is a battle report!

I'm aware that this is a re-opened thread, and I don't mean to be a boob-basher... there's nothing in the fluff that says Kroot can't be female unlike a certain popular subject, but can they really be classified as mammals? You know, those things that have anterior mammaries? I would think that as an avine sort of creature, a female one would just be slightly smaller with less interesting colouration.

Great conversion work overall.. hehe... just had to get that off my chest. Is there any backstory behind the genestealer-evolution? I mean, kroot absorb genetic material and can develop alien traits, but is this a genestealer-hybrid kroot or what?

Dark, lemme deal with the comments

@Arctik_Firangi - I do agree with you. Simple as that. Kroot aren't mammilian and therefore wouldn't have breasts. But, on the flipside, have you ever tried to make a Kroot look suitably feminine? Its bloody hard, and i tried everything i could before the addition. Still, it annoys me rather a lot, but it was the best i could really do.

@ Dark - The skin does look pretty brown, but thats maybe cos i painted it brown. In natural light it does look more flesh toned though.

@Nerdfest - Im using, or was using the Escher gang as the basis, partly cos my mate was using goliath for his orks, and Escher are pretty scary up close, but also pretty damn agile. Perfect for Kroot IMO

Here's an idea for making Kroot women,

*attach rolling pin to hand, and rollers in hair (quills)
*give them handbags
*paint their nails
*give them copious amounts of shopping bags
*maybe put them in a dress
*have them yelling at the male Kroot

what do you think? :-)

I'm recently finished reading the first Cain book, within it states that you wouldn't be able to tell a male kroot from a female kroot by simply looking at them.
As such female kroot would be very similar in looks and attire to the males.

Depending on the species females can be larger or smaller, or more (or less) brightly coloured than the males... You'd have to look into it to find out what applies to kroot.
But i doubt there would be too much modeling involved in the process, proberly just a slight change in colour tone (but i'd imagine colours would change depending on the kroots diet anyway)

There's some great models here, keep the good work up!

I had a quick read though the comment and didn't see anyone has posted this already, sorry if they have. This is a link to some kroot rules for necromunda that someone has written, they need some tweaks buts is pretty cool stuff.

What colours did you use on the Kroot? I'm digging the reddy brown, especially on the legs of the headless sniper.

For the skin variation you could try controlled washes using watered down paint. Try doing it in a few thin layers rather than in one go.

I often test paint effects/colours on spare parts. I've got a pair of space marine legs with numerous layers of paint on them.

A way I improved my blending was by: A controlled light dry brush - use a colour only a tiny bit different than the base coat, this would show you where the highlight would be. Then neated with the same colour watered down to get rid of the powderyness that dry brushing can leave. Then add a bit more of the highlight/new colour and repeat the process until you are happy etc etc with the colour change moving away from the base coat. To smooth the blending you could also try using a watered down INK between layers (i find that the foundation citadel washes are NOT good for this at all).

Anyways nice kroot, looking forward to seeing the kroot hounds.

btw i like the green stuffing, the ring buckle on the kroot/genestealer hybrid's right shoulder is really good.

Wow, someone asking ME about painting! For the Kroot skin, I used a mix of Dwarf Flesh, and Graveyard Earth over a white basecoat, before washing with ogryn flesh. Highlights will be the same mix except with a bit of white. I hope that helps?

Heres a small update for you guys

I finished up on the leader. All he needs now is a douse of white primer and i'll go to town on him. Im planning on trying out mottling and some blending on this guy!
I had to Pin his hands in place because they were pretty brittle and there wasn't a lot of surface connection between the parts. He now has a pair of 2cm pins running through his arms and hands. I covered the gap with some swanky wrist straps.

(click on the gallery for a better shot)

Next up on the agenda:

Another heavy for my gang, this time armed with a grenade launcher. I also have given him a fire retardant apron, as I imagine a grenade launcher could get pretty hot, andwould warrent a bit of protection.

Not the best shot, lemme take another

Not really any better, but I made the effort to make a belt, which I strived to make look like some rope.

Im not sure what his head should be like at this point in time. I have a few possible heads at the moment im working on. The first is a gas mask wearing Kroot, the second is a Kroot wearing a genestealer skull for a helmet (Im not sure about this one, I might save it for a Shamen of some description). I also have a couple more ideas. Maybe a Kroot wearing welding goggles? A blind Kroot would always be a hoot, especially for the possible house rules that could be used. And, I found a bit of an old headphone, that looks like a perfect Tau shaped helmet for Kroot. Just some thoughts knocking around. Any other suggestions?

So I'm updating my blog again, and for this week, I'm going to see if I can't keep the updates coming. In a bid to finish the gang whilst I actually have some free time, I'm going to try and finish the entire thing in the following week. Proper painting will start on Tuesday (I lost my paintbrushes, and only have a 'large brush' at the moment) and I'm hoping I'll be done by Sunday? That's the general plan anyways. Now onto the update:

So I've done a fair bit of work over the last month on my Kroot gang, after reigniting my ambitions in the form of various inspirational threads here on Dakka. Some of the more astute of you may recall a while back that I was bitterly complaining about Kroot Juves. Or rather, how I couldn't seem to make any that worked for me. But that's all changed now. I give you the fruits of far too fiddly labour:

This is a current green. My basic idea for the Juves was that they would be used to carry around the baggage, and at first, I was fiddling with various ways of making them look like pack donkeys. However, I strayed from that idea, and as time progressed, it evolved into the young Kroot would be assigned to an older warrior, who would put them through their paces, and teach them how to hunt. The Kroot above then, is running around with my Gangs heavy, carrying his spare fuel tank.

Here's my second Juve: A quick shout out to Oadie who helped me make this guys black eye actually look decent with some helpful instructions. This Juve hasn't really been assigned to any particular Kroot yet, but I'm leaning towards choosing the older Kroot lasgunner (The one with the poncho) as I feel he'd be a kind of no nonsense 'punch his charge in the eye if he doesn't listen' guy. You may notice the white spray is a bit thick- it's like that with a fair few others. Needless to say, I'm sticking with black in future, it seems less inclined to thicken up.

Now when I was trying to make these guys originally, I wanted them to be smaller than the fully fledged adults, but still retain their looming presence on the battlefield. A bit of an oxymoron there: Be tall AND short simultaneously. But I actually think I may have succeeded in doing so.

With a Kroot adult, Nice and short, as you can see.

And looming over a future gang member, nice and tall.

And finally before I go for today, I'm setting a challenge. If anyone can guess what parts I used to make the Juves chest, will win a khocolate khip Krookie, courtesy of yours truly.

Enjoy! ( C&C please, I thrive upon it)

rubs hands together

Ghosty you did it! That is what I imagine a kroot juve to look like.

I doubt I am going to get a khocolate khip Krookie...but I have a gut feeling to go with Skink?

Looks like its going to be a good week to be logging into Dakka

Really smooth GS work, and they look great. Nice to see you're characterising them already too - who said it's crazy to project personality onto lumps of plastic?

I don't know much about Kroot, so I couldn't really say, but those look like excellent juves to me. Glad to see you're back on the Necromunda wagon too - I'll be watching with interest

The juves are coming out great! I lioke the fluff behind them, too. As far as the torso, I'm going to say it's something from the vampire counts line, a zombie torso or something, but that's a real shot in the dark to be honest. Great work.

Here's todays update!

First of all, you were all wrong, the torso and groin area for the Juves is in fact taken from the new beastmen Ungors. Cunning or what?

Now, a while back I made my gang leader- a crazed combat warrior with a fair bit of mutation. Now, I felt, that he wouldn't actually be a good leader for a gang; he'd be too feral, too savage, he's more animal than Kroot. So, I've decided to acquire myself a kroot Shaper miniature, seeing as that lovely one we were tempted with doesn't seem to be coming out anytime soon. Of course, this left me with a dilemna. What could I possibly do with this Kroot? The answer?

Make him some friends.

I envision these Kroot variants as the Shapers experimentation to try and create a Kroot subspecies that can survive effectively within the Necromundan Hives. We have the ex-leader, the Headhunter, and the 'Alien esque' one...

First up, here's a group shot (I apologise for the quality, it's not that sunny today.)

Next up is the Headhunter. He sports similar musculature on the legs that my ex-leader has, but he's got a much more feral head- I do love the tyranid sprues!

And a better shot of his ugly mug.

Now here's the 'Alien' Kroot. Inspired by the shapes and lines of Gigers Xenomorph, I wanted this guy to seem the most debased of the group. He's low down to the ground, to hold a similar height to the Kroot hounds, and has a long tail as counter balance. His head, has a barbed tongue, much like the alien, and he has some giant spider claws as make do weapons.

Now, todays competition of spot the pieces!

The first person to tell me what 3 heads were used to make the 'Alien' Kroots head, will be the winner of an internet Krookie.

Enjoy, only 2 days to go until I start painting.

I have to say that I think this time you're cheating...dodgy photos in a game of guess the part is just tricksy!

I really didn't think of the ungors in the last round....nice going.

As for the feral kroot...I think you're right he doesn't quite work as a leader. I wish GW would get round to releasing that kroot shaper! But on the one you're going to get are you planning any conversions?

I'm waiting for paint... roll on Tuesday.

This is mostly guesswork, since it's really hard to tell from the photo, but the barbed tongue from I think it's one of the genestealer heads? something tyranid, anyway. And maybe a bloodletter head might be in there as well (with the horns cut off) - they have the swept-back look similar to a xenomorph. But you said three heads, and I have no idea beyond that.

Regardless, nice work so far - looking forward to seeing more of these guys painted

Good evening ladies and gents, after a bit of a hiatus I've decided to get back into the swing of modelling, and in particular, I've decided to refocus my attentions on Inq 28, as it's becoming very popular all of a sudden. In particular, Krautscientist, Molotov, and PDH have really inspired me recently, as I feel they're the blogs which I've drawn most of my creativity from, along with a fair few trawls of the internet. It needs to be stressed however that many of these conversions are part of a recycling project of mine to reuse and rebuild miniatures that had fallen to the wayside. That's one of the great things about Inquisitor I find, because of all the crazy, and elaborate characters, you can really go wild and have some interesting conversions. I'm going to take a leaf out of Krauts book on this one and showcase each miniature individually, with a bit of lore and a low down of how I converted and painted them. Obviously PIP pictures await, and they'll be coming soon enough. So, here goes nothing!

Inquisitor Isaac Huss

The young Inquisitor Isaac has lived most of his life in the shadow of his mentor, a certain Inquisitor ++Classified++ whose radical teachings, and obsessions thankfully did not rub off onto his pupil. It was cruel fate that threw Isaac into the path of Inquisitor ++Classified++ but Isaac has never regretted his decision to join the Ordo Obsuletus, after he himself witnessed first hand account the blazing, and terrible glory of the Legion of the Damned in action. He had been but a child, 10, maybe 11 years old when his home planet, and agri-world by the name of fuego-halcón VII came under sudden, lightning fast, and devastating attack from a force of Eldar corsairs of the Saim-Hann Craftworld. The planets small, cadre of PDF troopers were ill equipped to take on lightning quick attacks from jetbikes, and found themselves massacred along with the planets populations, who were quickly isolated and dismantled, village by village. Isaacs own farmstead was one of the last to hear of the sudden invasion: they were miles from the nearest signs of civilization, and Isaac and his family only realized they were under attack when his father was sliced in half by Shruikan fire from a passing jetbike. Seconds later, Eldar forces were moving in on the building from all sides, escape was deemed impossible, until, all of a sudden, Isaacs world was erupt with fire, pure and bright. As his house blazed around him, the young boys eyes affixed on a mighty giant standing before him. vaguely, over the roar of the inferno, the sounds of heavy weapons fire, and the bark of bolters he could hear the panicked screams of eldar dying. But Isaac was fixed upon the figure, a Space Marine all in black and bone, with ethereal fire licking at his boots, and from his skeletal eye sockets. Isaac blacked out, and came about in the remains of his burnt out farmstead, with no signs of the ethereal marine, or his brothers. He had been saved by a stranger, but it had been only days later when another stranger arrived, Inquisitor ++Classified++ and took the child, who was now parentless, under his wing and began to tutor him in the ways of the Inquisition.

Isaac Huss is an Inquisitor of the Ordo Obsuletus, a minor order tasked with gathering knowledge on the mysterious Legion of the Damned, and other, unexplained occurrences. As such, Isaac follows the Monodominant school of thought, brought about by his experience with the Eldar, but differs in belief with his fellows, in that he believes every 'homo sapien' be they mutant or ab-human has a role to play, and as such, he is sympathetic to the scum of humanity, and is not above utilizing them to help uncover the truth.

All righty! Here's a shot of his back, for those who've tanked their way through a chunk of impromptu background.

This miniature was very much inspired by Molotovs 'Interrogator Raef' a simple conversion of a voystroyan and the scarred imperial guard head. They share the same head, but they differ everywhere else. I have chosen to use a cadian torso, built up with greenstuff, to make Isaac taller. Afterall, he's essentially a farmboy in the big wide galaxy, and I wanted him to be big and strong. His legs are a combination of 3 parts: the skirt, or the bottom of his greatcoat ( ) is from a Breton Peasant archer. (I don't even know where I got it, never bought the box) with the shin guards of a chaos Marauder, to further accentuate his height. Of course, the Marauder legs obviously didn't come with feet to be inconvenient, so I took a pair of shoes from the sentinel Pilot figure, filling in the empty space with more greenstuff. His upper section of his arms are from an empire halberdier (not sure where these came from either) but they were messed up something bad with plastic glue, so I had to rebuild the frills on the left arm with greenstuff. Hopefully it won't show once painted. The lower arms are simply a necron shin (not an arm) attached to a Vindicare assassin pistol hand, and the other is from the forgeworld chaos enforcers. His powermaul is built up from the backpack of the chaos renegade psychers. Only other detail is the horned skull on his back. Again, not so sure where it came from, I think it was the chaos warriors box.

Approximately it took about 3 hours on and off to do this guy over several days. What do you think? C and C would be lovely, I thrive on it!

Excellent one of my favourite blogs has been updated afeter far too long a hiatus

Inquisitor Huss looks good, simple and effective. He really reminds me of an ex arbite. Great use of parts I might have to dig out my old vindicare and you are crazy in a good way for using maruader shins...brilliant. The only part I am not sure works properly at the moment is the right elbow where the two parts join, to me it looks like it needs a little GS to fill the join. Two areas the GS I really like: the torso as the new armour plates really change his appearance away from Cadian and the GS belt the helmet/horned skull are hanging from (I like little details).

Nice to see a obscure ordos from the background. I am not sure he needs to be classed as a monodominant though, as he has no problems with the scum of humanity. Monodominants are evil religious fanatics who hate everything and everyone for sin or even perceived sin. I would change him to a puritan with genocidal tenancies towards xenos/or perhaps more specifically Eldar.

Roll on paint!

Hrm? What's going on here?

Before paint....

And undercoated.

I always find it a bit stressful right up until undercoating. You don't know if the parts are going to mesh, if the greenstuff is smooth enough, and not going to look like ugly blobs. I'm relieved to say that's not the case, and there's a fair few miniatures there you're not supposed to be seeing for a while, hence the 'tantalizingly blurry pics'

PDH, this update is for you.

So, as I promised, I have another little update to tide you ladies and gentlemen over with. First things first, here's a couple of PIP pictures of Inquisitor Huss.

and his back

Whilst I finish off the cloth with some final highlights, I'm trying to ponder on what colours I should do his armour plating? I'm not sure I want to leave them just black, it might look unfinished. Any ideas?

And now for something completely different.

Here is my second member of Huss's warband.

Billy Kid

Billy Kid is an example of the diversity of the abhuman populations under imperial rule. This certain sub species of Homo Sapiens Variatus, who commonly suffer from extreme prejudice, have come under sever persecution in several planets where they are used for manual labor. Whereas their larger cousins have been completely rejected from the imperium, with Inquisitors and Magos Biologis researchers reasoning that something so far removed from humanity must be tainted by chaos, this less bestial sub species is tolerated for their uses. Wiry, and squat, these abhumans are nonetheless tenacious, earning begrudging respect from the Guard on several plaents over several campaigns. Inquisitor Huss first met Billy Kid whilst following up rumours of planet ++Classified++ being a former recruitment planet of the lost Firehawk chapter. Whilst his study was inconclusive, the abhuman guide had been invaluable to Huss during his exploration, not only showing him to the relevant data-terminals with the information he needed, but he also came to the rescue of the Inquisitor when the floor of a disused mechanicum factory collapsed under Isaacs feet. He would have fallen to his death, had it not been for the mismatch, giant hands of his guide, grabbing him. Billy had hoisted Isaac back up out of the hole with surprising ease, belying the hidden strength behind the wizened frame of the abhuman, and had offered the inquisitor a swig from his hip flask to calm Huss's nerves. Whilst Isaac knows that Billy Kid is a rogue, a mutant and a cheater at cards to boot, he trusts him with his life, and has had him as an accomplice since.

Well pun nicknames aside ( see who guesses it) I'm pretty happy with the progression of my warbands gunslinger. Originally, I was concerned that much of Huss's retinue would be based off of Imperial guard conversions, seeing as they're some of the most prevalent plastics I have available to me, so for the gunslinger I wanted it to be comprised completely of anything but Cadian parts, to give him a really scruffy, and unequipped feel. So he gained a pair of Zombie legs ( i know some people hate this kit, but I can't get enough of the zombies. It's so versatile, nicely detailed, and I personally love the big hands), which I refrained from giving cloven hooves. According to a background read up, 'Hooves, horns, and bestial faces' are exterminate-able features to have as an abhuman, and i wanted Billy to have a fighting chance in the imperium. That and I didn't want him just to look like a beastman with trousers on. This reflected with the choice of arms, as again, I wanted him to look sufficiently different, as well as I didn't want him to have the muscular ungor arms. Other than that, it's ungor plastics, a cowboy hat from foundry miniatures, and Kroot Pistols. I've just started painting his skin at the moment, but hopefully I'll progress quickly onto finishing him.

Final tidbit, I want to unify my warband with a common colour that they can all share. They're undoubtedly going to look unique from each other, but what colour should unify them?

Thanks guys, C and C me, I thrive on it!

Huss's torso really needs picking out/highlighting but that could just because most of him is still black. I think black armour would work due to his chosen mission....but added flames probably not. Oh and get his shin armour to match his torso.

Wicked idea....Billy Kid and a good gun slinger pose and him name Oh and the hat

You big tease just like Baiyuan with the group shot teaser.

Now is it just me or have you mutated Mr Nurglii Lord so that another torso is growing out of his shoulder? Close ups please.

Hey all, just a quick update today, just to prove I'm not dead, though I do feel it, as I'm a bit hungover from last nights celebrations. First off, good news! I've got into University for this year at Swansea to study Ancient History! This may mean my hobby time, which has only recently been rekindled, will be being cut down something terrible, but I'll keep the updates coming up until my leaving date. I'm going to endeavor to get all my current Inquisitor figures finished before I leave, so prepare to be inundated with pictures! Anyway, I'm sure you didn't come here to listen to me blather on about this and that, so I'll just put up a couple of WIP pictures. Images of Huss might be heading this way later today, as I'm getting to the point where I'm comfortable with how he looks, and Billy goat gruff has his skin finished, and is starting to get the hair on his back painted.

I'm also working on a rather ambitious project which might pop up in the not too distant future!

So, first things first, here's my new WIP

and a back view

He's an imperial guard veteran of some type. I don't really have much to work with as background yet, but he's been loosely inspired by Team fortress's 'Scout' class.

Anyway, C and C is always appreciated, I thrive on the stuff! And expect maybe another update slightly later on?

I'm liking them so far.. rag-tag band of misfits by the look of it. Keep up the good work.

As for unifying colour.. perhaps a bronze with a dull shine? They strike me as the underdogs of the Inquisition and sparkling armour resplendent with all components intact isn't particularly what I'd expect.

Hey folks, I have an update for you today.

I've finally finished off Huss, and am fairly pleased with how he turned out. I'm particularly happy with his skin tone, as it came out as a complete accident, and I'm even happier with the shaved head.

And here's a shot from the back.

And finally a nice close up shot.

What do you think? Also, what's a bit of a pain, is his power maul had a little accident. The resin has snapped, just after the pin inside it stops. So he's now very fragile, and I've had to superglue it twice so far. I'm now looking for a new replacement which is a bit more sturdy. I'd love to hear some ideas!

Great paint job on that guy.

As for the maul.. there's a DA power maul for the opposite hand that could probably be cut off at the hand and pinned into his hand, if you had the time and patience for something like that.

But wait, there's more.

I've also finished off Kid to a reasonable level, or more to the point where I'm not sure what else I want to do to him. I'm not so happy with his skin tone this time round, and feel I could do another layer onto it, but I'm not convinced he'd look any better afterwords. If any of you guys can think of a way to improve him paintwise, feel free to holla!

and a backshot. The fur was very difficult to get any detail on it. Alas.

I'd love some help with this guy, I feel like I've hit a bit of a wall with him and need a hand!

Give him a striking coloured hat, maybe an acid-scar - anything to provide some contrast whilst still retaining the gritty shooter aspect.

That maybe could be the way to go, he's definitely very dark at the moment, and doesn't cacth the eye so well as Huss, who I deliberately painted the skulls and his purity seal brightly, to contrast with his otherwise gritty aspect, to denote him as a good guy, I guess. I could maybe sculpt up a quick purity seal and add it to Kid? It'd help to show he's part of the same 'gang' as Huss, linking them both, as well as showing that despite being a twist, he's one of the good guys.

I'd love to hear your suggestions, so if you have any thoughts, throw them my way. The idea for this gang is gritty, but ultimately good.

Give him a white Imperial Aquila tattoo on his arm or something.

Hey there Gravies and Lentilmen, I have a bit of an impromptu not-quite-an-update-but-still-posting-anyway for you today! I have a couple of miniatures that I've finished for you folks to oggle at, just some minor xenos npcs of some description (former necromunda gangers) and also some WIP pictures of the rest of Huss' retinue. I apologize a bit for the picture quality ( I feel I say that in every post) but it's better to show you what I've been up to than let you forget about my forays into sculpting.

So, Here's Goon A and Goon B, former members of my Escher Kroot Gang. Only took them about a year to get painted, which isn't too bad, right?

Goon A, the Kroot sniper is all painted up and ready for battle, he just needs a base.

Here's Goon B, a Kroot Hybrid. I tried to get some movement and fluidity into his pose, he looks like he's charging at the enemy. Scary! Both are painted up to tabletop standard, I guess I just felt defeated by my Kroot gang, and find it difficult to motivate myself to paint them to the best of my abilities. In Inq 28, I'm sure they'll take the part of NPC henchmen, or minor characters. Goon B looks like he'd be a bit of a menace in Inq though!

So I know PDH has been biting at the bit to see my Nurgle Lord conversion, but I regret to say he's going to have to wait just a little bit longer, I promise it'll fly by. So, as substitute, I'll show off the rest.

Here's a fairly ambitious, and painful conversion I did a while back for Huss' Team. He represents a Feudal Planet Storm Trooper, who's totally loyal, and devout to Huss, believing him to be the agent of his God (the Emperor). I wanted to use a completely unique miniature for the Storm Trooper, and I wanted him to be suitably sinister. Better background will be up when PIP pictures follow, but the loose idea is that the Feudal planet he comes from is controlled by the iron grip of the tyrant governor/king, who uses his legion of deaths head cataphracts to keep the order. Hence, the skull mask, and the heavy armor. Sculpting his legs was a learning curve, and though not perfect, I think I managed. In games terms, seeing as my Inquisitor is fairly young, having an interrogator would be unlikely, so the Stormtrooper is his +1 he takes to most situations, and will happily stand in the path of a speeding bullets path if I saves the Huss. Utterly incorruptible was the theme I was going for, hence the huge purity seals.

While he isn't a Nurglii Lord the Storm Trooper will more than make do!

Ghosty that is ace! What is the base model? Very ambitious and clever. You've pulled off the legs btw.

The purity seals could do with a little work though. The parchment is good but the actual seal looks a little flat. I recommend a tiny ball of GS, put it in the right place on the model and then with a lubed small drill bit (like you'd find on a pin vice) poke it into the middle of the GS ball. Tadah you have a purity seal.

As for the brief outline of his story I like it. He is definitely looks intimidating and that counts when working for an Inquisitor.

Now get back to studying if you aint showing off Nurglii Lords

Thanks The miniature itself is an old 'Armored Skeleton' of Gamesworkshop history. I have a couple knocking around, and contemplated making more into Storm Troopers, but the amount of effort going into making the one put me off. Hours of scraping at metal with a scalpol! Hours!

Update two! I'm closing in on the end of my Semester here in beautiful Wales, just 1 more week to go! After finishing of a variety of heinous papers on Ancient Egyptian Civilization, a fascinating subject by the by, I've got enough time for a small update for you all!

To show you all I'm not all about the converting, and that I do enjoy painting too, here's a PIP of a young lady. The way I see it, she'll probably be destined as a minor NPC of some type, but who knows, with my constant rejigging of who's in whose gang, she may very well end up starring in a retinue in the future. Anyway, here she is!

Only a small amount of work going on here; Grey paint for ease of painting (flesh straight onto black is a pain) and her cameo cloak is more or less ready for highlights. The astute amongst you might recognize some similarities with Scarpers 'Raven', a member of his gang. It's a cheeky rip off in honesty, because I loved what he did with adding a gasmask. It hid the horrible mould line plowing through her face (gj GW!) and added some character. I'm thinking of calling her 'Crow', or 'Blackbird' and homage. I was pondering, and maybe you can give me a bit of feedback on this, but should her cloak have a pattern, or just be plain? I've always wanted to try digital cameo, but I fear it'd be very fiddly.

And, seeing as we're on the process of going through NPCs, here's another!

This guy is finished up, and is awaiting priming. He used to be in Huss's retinue, but since then, I've gone off him; he's way too plain, and the greenstuff work is shabby. I think I need to find him a new pair of legs, and then find him something small to do in my upcoming Inquisitor campaign, possibly be a pilot for something unexciting, and not Huss' Speeder. I am however, quite pleased with his pistol. and might nab it for another miniature.

Not expecting a surge of comments on these two, they're hardly that inspiring, but any ideas would be welcome to improve either! And feel free to make a comment about some of the previous work, I love talking about the things I've done already, and suggestions are welcomed with open arms!

I quite like the "plain" fellow, as he seems more like someone who would appear alongside the more flamboyant members of a retinue.

Post by: ghosty

Thanks for the comment! He's still holding his position in the retinue at the moment, but he's soon going to be replaced! Ok, now for a slew of updates! I apologize in advance for the lighting; my poor excuse for a lighting box is packed away, so I'm improvising. I have a couple of PiP images to show you first of all, and then some more exciting WiPs!

Onto the pictures! First of all, I fixed Huss' weapon. It keeps snapping along the neck, and I'm getting frustrated. However, short of replacing the entirety, or reinforcing the entire thing, I'm a bit stuck.

He's still around, surviving the madness of the Galaxy, trying to learn what he can about the legion of the Damned!

And just a quick update on a few miniatures; The Cataphract, the Guardswomen, and TF2 are all on the painting Station now, and are having their basic colours blocked in. For the TF2 scout, I was considering painting him in a famous uniform colours, possibly the Green and Drab Cadian scheme? And then go to town all rusting it up. What do you think? I think the Cataphract will have a similar cloth colour to Huss, to tie him into the warband.

This is a fairly old guy actually, but he's been promoted from the Imperial Guard lying in my Garage, to fully blown NPC! I think he has a distinctly 'Bane' look to him, and I quite like it, it gives me an idea to make Bane possibly..?

"When the Promethean tanks run out, then you have my permission to die.'

And one more Wip to wet your appetite until tomorrow!

Again, I nicked one of Scarpers ideas I must admit. I loved the pose so much. I'm not sure if he'll be in a small Diorama, or as an NPC, but I like his pose, and how he looks. He'll be helping someone up, I guess. Anyway, look forward to tomorrows updates! There will be a Bow the size of an ogre, a xenos horror from the stars (insert 50s scream), a skantily clad lady, and a dwarf! So until tomorrow, Adieu, and C and C as always!

I was going to say- that flamer-wielding character... is Bane...? As a Batman fan, love that guy's mask. And the huge/half-Chelsea smile Huss has on. Makes him look like a complete psychopath.

Okay, let's get this show on the road!

++ User: Captain Mathias Horton ++

Ship Licence: **ERROR**

Ship Destination: Eastern Fringe [Exact Destination Unspecificed:: Query?]

++Captains Log++ : This is Captain Mathias Horton of the Frigate Stars Child - three days since warp jump, no casualties to report - But that was one rocky journey Hull integrity readings at 70% - Should last us another three trips before we need to get the repair kits out. ++Cargo intact++

Captains log: It's been 3 days since Warp Jump, and 4 since we picked up a distress beacon from the ++ACCESS DENIED++ Ship was listing hard, and fuel was pumping out of one side. They're still not telling us how they got into that position in the first place, but my guess is Corsairs, or some god awful flying. We thought it was a bare bones ship, and moved up on side to get a good look before we embarked. Scavenging from hulks may be forbidden, but a small wreck? Worth the risk I'd say. Anyways, Everything looked good and we embarked the crew vessel. Doors had been fused shut and it took Riggs a good twenty minutes with the plasma cuter to even get a man sized hole cut through the bulkhead. Place looked to be a Gold Mine, 'till we found the survivors. Ships rites and all that. Now, a scrupulous Trader would've seen the opportunity to take the supplies, and leave the survivors, but I'm smart. I'm smart and I got a good look before we jetisoned the air from the ship. It was an Inquisitor, and his accomplices in the Crew deck - and they knew we were on board. Anyway, things got out of my depth pretty fast, and next thing I knew, we'd towed the transport into our Docking Bay, and were giving them time to repair, whilst giving them a leap frog to the 'fringe. I guess the Inquisitor has a way with words and no mistake. Now, off record, but I've never seen Inquisitors before, but this guy... I was expecting more. Y'know guys in solid Gold armour, with weapons taller than a grown man in each hand. But this guy, he's little more than a senile, Paranoid Scitzo, parading around in a glorified wheel chair. He even has a blanket for his legs for Thrones sake! Still, an Inquisitor is an Inquisitor, and in the end of the day, if he says Jump, I'll ask how high. Last thing I need is an Inquisitor deciding to check my Licences... If I was expecting anything from his crew, I definitely didn't imagine it'd have a Xenos or two. There was a Kroot, I've seen them before. Big and gangly, but with the strength of three men. And then there was a Sslyth. I know them Snakemen are supposed to be the most trustworthy Xenos you'll find out there, and possibly the most polite too, judging from this one's manners, but Thrones, does he gimme the creeps. Scares me too how it can wield that bow; it's huge, and fires arrows the size of spears. Boys gotta be as strong as a Kroot, at the least. The others were no less weird, but they kept themselves to themselves for the most part. Some guy with a mask and a laspistol probably older than my ship, and a great brute of a man, a real giant, with metal gauntlets for hands. never seen the like before. What surprised me was they carted onto the ship a stasis tube. Lots of locks, and frankly I dunno what's in there, nor do i really want to find out. Stenciled on the side 'XV113 - Charon.' The only saving grace in the whole damn team is the Interrogator, the Inquisitors Apprentice. She's easy on the eyes, and makes me wonder if it was her talents as a potential Inquisitor that made the old guy choose her, or was it her 'talents' elsewhere... Anyway, apart from creeping the crew out, they've been quiet and out of the way the whole journey. Well, if they keep themselves to themselves we should get on like a house on fire. Their drop off is in 4 more days, let's just hope something catastrophic doesn't go down between now and then. Mathias Out.

So, that's the introduction to the big surprise I have for you, a second gang! this one's a lot more involved conversion wise than Huss' but with more involvement, comes more cursing, and more chopped fingers. In seriousness though, why does Superglue refuse to glue things together? It seems half the time like I'm trying to glue things with water!

rant over, onto the pictures! Now if you're expecting a gang in completion, you're going to be sadly disappointed, but I hope some of these miniatures will whet your appetite for things to come.

So let's kick things off first of all with My old Inquisitor:

Sorry for the blur on the face, I didn't notice it when taking the pictures. He's not finished right now. If fact, I'd not say he's even halfway there. At present, the work I've done on him so far is just for ease of sculpting. Way I see it, it'll be harder to greenstuff him if he's in a bunch of small pieces. So I'm working away to make a Liche Priest 40k. I gave him a nose and a Bionic eye, as well as filled in the exposed skull. This was my first time I worked with Finecast, and at the moment, I'm a bit thrown. The detail seems crisp in lots of places, and it is a joy to work with, but in itself, the miscast parts were a bit of a let down. The bionic eye is there simply because half his face seemed to have sloughed away, and it was almost completely smooth where his left eye should be. Curious. There's not been much work on his legs at this point in time, they're going to be cut up, and probably not on show either way, so I'm not really concerned with how they look at the moment. I rebuilt his other arm, though that again will probably be broken up into it's parts again to make the finished pose more natural. We'll see. And here's his Wheel Chair! I want the finished look to be something akin to a 40k version of this intimidating badboy:

Possibly with smaller tank tracks.

Anyway, here is itself in its current state. It's pretty much done, minus the control pad, a servo arm equipped with a firearm of some type, and it's tank tracks.

It has a servo skull built in based on the 40k maxim that one can never have too many skulls. I'm sure it'd have some purpose, maybe as a targeting array for the firearm that'll eventually be equipped. Other than that, it's basically a refurbished seat taken from an Imperial Guard Sentinel, with some extra technological gubbins attached. And here's a scale shot with the Inquisitor. My next task, after I've finished the chair, is to take Inquisitor, and get him sitting in the chair. Which looks to be a challenge.

I've seen the pieces to make the servo arm, and the tank tracks, the Space Hulk C.A.T

The only concern here is that they are of course out of production, and now cost an arm and a leg to get a hold of. It's perfect for what I need, but I just can't justify the prices I've seen currently. Onto the second character!

this is a Kroot Tracker I spent a fair time a while back working on, for my Kroot Necromunda gang. He didn't scream 'leader' at me, so he's now serving as an aid to the Inquisitor.

I'm fairly pleased with several parts of this miniature. Firstly, I'm happy with his face. I sculpted onto a normal kroot face, in an attempt to give is some more character. I think i successfully characateured him to a nice degree. I'm also pleased with the feathers on his back, which I made a greenstuff mould for feathers, and used it to print the pattern onto his cloak. I think it could've worked better, but I'm still pretty proud of it. I also love his pose. he looks very nonchalant and calm. Next!

Here's the final update for this afternoon. There may be more later, but I'll let you folks look over these three characters this afternoon, and bombard you a bit more later! This is my Sslyth warrior. Let me tell you, the biggest pain in the arse to do out of all my miniatures, and he's still not done! He's based off of a Dungeons and Dragons Yun Tai (?) which is essentially a snake man. Perfect for a Sslyth! I thought I struck gold when i found this guy, as I've been meaning to add one of these serpent men to my warband for quite some time, but because of funding I had been unable to.

Yum! as you can see, he's surprisingly well detailed, I was certainly taken aback, but here's the drawback. He's made from some kind of rubber plastic, which is almost impossible to cut, and mould lines are pretty much an issue you have to deal with, as they don't come away no matter how much you scrape. I'm glad they're not too prominent. Speaking of the plastics issues, it doesn't sand, and superglue doesn't take to it very well. Would I use one of these figures again if it would be useful? I can't say yet. I'm taking a big gamble with this miniature, as if paint doesn't take to the plastic, he's next to useless. And removing them from their integral bases was a nightmare.

There isn't much information on Sslyth, so I decided to be a bit creative, and decide that there are subspecies that have onto two limbs, and that their 'native' weapon of choice is a Bow. Way I see it, is when there's not much fluff on a minaiture, it lets us run amock! His bow is two zombie scythes with kroot Gun butts on the ends. It's absolutely massive! More akin to a bolt thrower than a long bow. Here's a scale picture (To make PDH foam at the mouth )

I've not yet got a quiver sorted out for this guy, as the arrows will have to be huge. But I'm very happy with how he's coming together, I'm just so happy with his Bow!

So, Anything you have to say will be welcome, and until later, Adieu!

Ok, here goes another update, I'll keep soldiering on with this stuff in the hopes I'll hit the winning formula to get some responses!

So, in my previous update I showed you the starts of my second Inquisitor gang. The main Inquisitor, who is yet unnamed, is going to be the mastermind behind all the retinues clandestine actions, but, being as hold and feeble as he is, he is unable to take on a physical role in the field.I will still be attaching a weapon to his chair of course, in case situations demand it, but hopefully he won't find himself fighting toe to toe with anyone, as he won't last long. Anyway, because he'll be very ineffective in game, PDH suggested to me that he should have an accomplice, an Interrogator to be his mouthpiece in the games, much like the Mouth of Sauron is to Sauron. With a quick think and a little bit of searching, I came up with a bit of an ambitious, but hopefully very rewarding project: I'm going to give sculpting myself something a go. Now, this is going to be a hell of a learning curve, and I wisely have chosen a Hasslefree Armature to start off with. I think I'm going to bombard some of the more prominent resident sculptors on dakka for advice, to gleen some knowledge on how I can go about this without hamfisting the entire project!

Onto the pictures!

this is the Hasslefree Armature straight out of the packet. I'm not going to trust myself to go with the full monty, and make everything from scratch, but I'll be focusing on her clothes, and also to bring her slightly more in line with GWs 'Heroic' 28mm. Here she is in scale with Huss.

She's a bit petite. I don't think it matters too much, and she's going to have some extra height added here and there. So, what am I planning? Well, I want her to have a radical air about her (being in a radical gang and all) whilst also conveying a Puritan, flamboyant look? Here's what I found for inspiration.

I like the look of this. I can give her a corset, and emulate a sisters of battle style, and then something loose and hopefully forgiving covering the rest of her top half. Something a bit like this?

the radical side will be brought out by the armor on her legs. This will be the first stage too 'embiggen' her. I'm going to give her the legs (up to the knee joint) from the Slaanesh Champion on foot. Y'know the guy with the cloven hooved heels? I think this'll give a very sinister and radical appearance. (these are the legs I'm talking about!)

Excuse the paintjob, it's a bit rusty. Hopefully, if all goes to plan, I'll get updates up as soon as I can. But I'd love any ideas you'd have for her! Should she have a hat? A loin cloth? And her weapon choice? Any ideas feel free to yell them out!

I wouldn't worry about the slow responses. It is something I struggle with too. People are watching, just slow to say anything it seems.

It looks like the curve of his body from his knees to his head might fit the chair. I would check that. If it does fit, you have a good place to cut, with a relatively easy join to hide.

I would look into other figure manufacturers for this. For example, Khurasan Miniatures makes a drome miniature in 15mm that might work for you. It even comes in tracked, wheeled, legged, and anti-grav versions. This is the store page. Scroll down to the Autonomous Small Vehicles (ASV) section.

Servo Skulls are cheap from bits sellers, and the Servo Arm can be made of wire and plastic rod quite easily.

I like the idea here. The bow may be a bit too masive though. ANd I mean that from a game playing perspective because, as GW themselves have shown, there is no such thing from a modelling perspective. Lol.

How does the Yuan Ti miniature size up with your other figures? Looks like it would be good, but I would love to see a comparison picture if you get a moment.

Everything has turned out better than expected! My female Interrogator is almost at the point of being ready to paint, but my Camera has chewed its way through some more batteries, so no pictures just yet. Maybe later this evening, or tomorrow? For a first sculpt, I am very proud. Any input on my earlier work is of course appreciated, I'm still a bit stuck on how to position my Sslyths bow without pinning (I lost the little drill bits for the pinvice...)

First off, the fluff is ace, great introduction to the group. I really like where the inquisitor is going, and the idea of a subdued kind of power, especially like what you've done with the chair. Looking forward to seeing where you take him.

The kroot's face is excellent - I haven't worked much with the kroot models, but I imagine it must be very hard to individualise one of them. You've nailed it with this gent - he's very characterful! Lots of practice with the older gang though, i guess

Love the shared models too - I'm really flattered that you liked what I was doing! My poses were never hugely original anyway, so steal away. Can't wait to see your sculpting.

Right Ladies and Gents, this I believe will be my final update for a while, as I have returned to University. I feel I haven't given this blog the time and attention it deserves, so I will be taking a break from Warhammer until Easter time. Apologies to the few who are interested in the progress of the warbands, but I need to prioritize my time at University. I hope I won't disappoint too many people, and I may still lurk around Dakka, but my updates are going to be few and far in between I'm afraid. Don't lose faith though! I have some great pieces of work down the pipeline.

Thanks Scarper! It means a lot to get a post from you!

Onto the gang members. This is a gunslinger for my radical Inquisitor. I've always preferred the idea of mutants hiding out amongst society, and hiding their deformities, along with minor mutations standing out more than gigantic tentacles. Now don't get me wrong, I love over compensation as much as the next guy, but when it comes to Inquisitor, I feel Less is ultimately more. So I took this idea and ran with it.

Apologize for the black basecoat. He's ready for painting, but I'm afraid the black kind of washes out the detail. I wanted this character to have a mysterious appearance to him, he's supposed to be sneaky, hence the finger to the lips 'shhh!' gesture. I imagine him sneaking through the urban jungle, and telling a homeless child to be quiet whilst he passes by or something. As for mutation, his arm is atrophied. I wanted him to have a skinny, almost skeletal limb, to contrast with his macho man gun arm. His face is also covered with a Masque, to hide his identity, or possibly further, and more obvious mutation. Scale wise, this guy is tall! He's got a very lean, and slenderman esque body shape, and is about as tall as the Nurgle Champion. Which means in essence, that he's a tall guy. Continuing the trend of recycling parts to make new miniatures, this guy is certainly coming into that category. His legs are made from the chaos Marauder groin and thighs left over from Huss, with a pair of shoulderpads as kneepads, and Empire Free Company boots. They really make him tall! the Forgeworld Enforcer body was left over from an earlier conversion, and the rest of the parts are from my bits box.

Loose theme is that he seems to have originated from the upper echelons of society, hiding his identity with an ornate Masque preferred in Masquerades in the upper Spire. He also carries an Ancient, and priceless Laspistol predating the Heresy. It's old, and it packs a punch. (It actually is built from a rogue trader lasgun with a shortened barrel. I really wanted it to be huge and clunky. Slightly unwieldy, but it has that Archeotech, one in a million rule, so I assume it's gotta be what it's gotta be.) Where is he from? no one knows, but to have come from so high, and to have fallen so far as to be drawn into (radical Inquisitor name yet unthought of) warband implies he is desperate for redemption.

I'll put up another post in an hour or so!

Hey guys, thanks for the responses, I'm trying to get out these last few pictures for everyone before I disappear off the face of the planet for a couple months! So my next guy has had a fair chunk of build up for a while. I lost the unpainted pictures for this guy, so apologies, so it's another black blob. This character needs no real introduction, because I've tantalized you long enough! So, onto the pictures of my fatty.

Obviously, based off of a nurgle lord, that guy is just perfect conversion fodder! I wanted him to be a real brute, and I planned for him to be a pit fighter very early on in the conversion process. However, this idea developed when I found myself a pair of Imperial Guard sized Powerfists. They don't match, but I think that helps fit the eclectic look of the miniature. The astute may notice that his left handed powerfist is in fact originally designed for the right hand, and it took some careful cutting, and greenstuffing to switch the thumb over. Luckily, the fingers on the fist are not anatomically correct, so it doesn't look off in its reversed position. It was this idea that actually spurred me to think up some background for this guy.

He's a member of a fairly specific form of Pitfights. It originated as a more respectable form of violent pit fights that the nobility could condone without fearing the reprimands associated with the more Barbaric, and illegal Underhive activities. Instead of drill arms and saw blades, the combatents would have kinetic powered cybernetics grafted directly onto their limbs, effectively replacing their hands with chargeable power fists. The fights would normally be fairly brief, but would contain less graphic violence, allowing it to become more acceptable in the eyes of the Arbites. Every punch delivered to the opponent would charge up the power of the fist. When it reached a critical level, the boxing glove would be capable of delivering a blow not dissimilar in force to a Powerfist. The matches were normally a race to charge up the fists, as whoever got to the critical level first, were almost assured a win, as for the unarmored torsos, a powered punch would likely liquefy their organs and powder their bones. To lose the match was to lose your life, and as such, there are very few who ever survive more than three consecutive matches. Interestingly, the competitors are largely varied in size in stature. From Giant brutes whose punches generate greater energy levels per punch, to small and agile men who can deliver 3 punches for the time it takes a larger man to deliver one.

This character is of the former grouping, a giant of a man who can boast a claim none have ever been able to emulate. He lost a match, and survived. The blow ruptured his stomach and wrecked his internal organs, but a mysterious benefactor deemed him a worthy investment. His ruined organs were replaced with artifical organs of steel and iron, capable of digesting food, and then filtering out waste products into a canister on his back. He's followed the Inquisitor ever since.

He was a very fun miniature to convert! things of note include on his grossly bloated and unhealthy stomach, an artifical exhaust to expel the byproduct fumes of his artificial stomach, and tubing connecting to a storage canister on his back. He wears a welding Mask, which I was fairly pleased with how it came out sculpting wise. I also took the time to fill in all the gaping wounds and boils on his flesh, he may be sickly, but he's not that ill, and I took the time to fill in the holes on his thighs. They'll be painted to look like cloth, as I'm not a fan of him running around in a diaper. Only other thing to note is I was struck by inspiration to make him arm length mismatched, to denote that it was a hasty, and haphazardly done grafting process. One arm is certainly shorter than the other!

Couple more things to put up, stay tuned!

That is one hell of a large bow. If it were the nurlge lords I think he would be to compensating for not seeing his genitalia in a long time!

Talking of the Lord I really like the vent in his stomach and the blow torch mask, really nice touches, The tiny power fist really makes it look like he has mutated into the vast bulk he is now.

Great stuff and enjoy another term at Uni. See you back here at easter

I mean to post this ages ago but forgot - the C.A.T from Space Hulk is not very expensive, I got one on eBay for a few quid. However it is not the right size for what you want, it's really tiny. In my opinion the ideal part is probably the tracks from the old Ork wartrakk, or if you want to get fancy the tracks from a forgeworld Rapier might work. I love the wheelchair idea, always wanted to make one myself.

Aww... sorry to hear you going out for a bit...

That big guy with the vent on his stomach (just vomited in my mouth a bit... ssspectre got it right) is wicked...

Also like the bent-over guy with the robo-chair up a bit earlier. That's a Tomb King, no? Really great conversion- didn't even see him at first, but the look of him is very Blanche-Inquisitor...

We'll be waiting for updates, but again, good luck at Uni!

Yeah, you know, I'm pretty gutted in honesty that I didn't get a chance to take a final snap of some of my things before I came back to Uni. One of these days i should probably take my Warhammer with me, but I'm scared that they'll become a plughole for which all my time will go down, as opposed to working for the exam!

Ok, to the responses!

Dark Apostle 666: Thanks man, I like him too! He took a good while to make, as I wanted him to at least hold his own with every other Nurgle Lord conversion on the Internet. I know a certain Gorrilla Avatar'd member of Dakka was getting a bit sick of all the conversions, so I had him in mind whilst making him; I wanted him to be a bit different to the rest. Whether or not it worked...? Well, we can only speculate

Zwan1One: Thanks man, I appreciate it! Let's hope I don't wake up to find I'm being sued for blowing up a spaceship!

PDH: Thanks man, your stuff always inspires me to try and build better things. As for the Bow, I'm becoming less and less enamored with the Sslyth loadout at the moment, and it may very well find itself onto a new miniature.

Bruticus: See, this is why I wish I took some pictures! As I was fiddling with ideas, I was reminded that the main purpose of this blog was to recycle old miniatures that I didn't have the heart to sell, as opposed to buying more! So I went with the old switcheroo, and instead of tank tracks, which would have been my first choice, he now has a dinky little anti-grave generator on the bottom, so he can float around quite sedately, and even go up stairs. This guy aint no Davros!

HF Izanagi: Yeah, he is a Tomb King, one of the Lich Priests from the last release. You know, I was really disappointed with the casting, as I know the priests head is one of the better quality faces GW has made in recent years. It gives off a real 'hate the world' vibe. A blanche conversion?! Well that's all kinds of flattering, as PDH in particular knows that he's like my super favorite man in the whole world. I mean, have you seen his retinue he had at the last Inquisitor event? It had frikkin' Angron in it! HE CHOPPED UP a 50 squids miniature! I have so much respect for him.

Hey folks! I have a bit of good news, so I just thought I'd keep you updated. I've finished my exams now, and all in all, I didn't think they were that horrendous. Time will obviously tell, but until then, I'm buzzing! Anyway, I'm heading back home for a couple days next week, and I've decided to bite the bullet and bring back a small selection of miniatures, to paint up and finish. I'm fairly excited by the undertaking, and hopefully I'll be able to get some updates out to you, instead of everyone waiting until Easter. That's good, right?

In other news, I've decided to try and finish my lady Interrogator off as part of the hero competition on Dakka.

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/498307.page

I am unsure I will be even with in a hope of winning, but I'm hoping that by entering it, it might raise some awareness of my little blog here. Tentative steps to bigger projects. My ultimate goal will be to have my retinue done and dusted by Easter time, and hopefully I'll be featured in Molotovs In28 blog. A man can dream, right?

Anyway, thanks for stopping by guys! Look for an update around Tuesday! Right, I'm off to celebrate the end of exams in classic Uni style..

Great to hear! (about finishing exams, celebrating, AND continuing work on some minis!)

I'm very excited to hear about your plans for your lady interrogator. I saw your starter too... very bold undertaking. She's nekkid. Aside from that fact, that means you've gotta sculpt EVERYTHING on her body- clothes, guns, etc. But if you see it through, you're going see a vast improvement to your GS skills. I can't wait to see what you do with her clothing and gear!

Hey guys, I think it's been too long. Sadly my Girlfriend split up with me recently, on the day I made my last post talking of big things to come, and it kind of sucked out any form of motivation towards modelling for a fair bit of time. It's been a bit of a roller coaster recently, because as I'm sure many of you who're in Uni, or have been through it, will be aware that other things suck up all your free time, especially when single. But I've kept hanging around Dakka, taking serious inspiration from all of the blogs here, and you guys really got me back into the hobby, slowly but surely, so thanks!

Anyway, I finally got a muse again, and started to find my creative juices began to flow, and inspiration struck. So I got out the female armature I was going to use to make my Inquisitor, and revisited the notes I made when i was first inspired. I'll show the WiP images, and let you guys comment on how it's progressed. Just a quick before and after!

Before:

and After:

As you can see, what started as an armature has really grown quite a bit in detail and volume. One of the hardest parts of the sculpting process was removing the armored calves from the Slaanesh champion, and reattaching them to her. The problem I found then, was that she's very much 'true' 28mm, and warhammer... really really isn't. Still, I think I managed to add extra bulk with the thigh sections of armor, and I don't think it's massively obvious of the size difference. She might have fairly long legs too, but that is something I can very much live with. I also think I pulled off the stocking and suspender silhouette I was trying to go for, whilst it evidently being very 40k in image. The power cables on her thighs were a bit of a bitch to get right though, as the putty tending to distort in shape when pressed upon, but I think I got it to a level I'm happy with. In following with the imagery I had planned out, I also added a corset. I want the female Inquisitor to give off a radical image, hence the slightly questionable attire on a basic level, but also the armored legs she is wearing look ever so slightly chaotic, with cloven hooves and leering, demonic faces. Further radicalism will be shown off when I've got her hands attached, one of which is toying with a tendril of balefire. However, I also want her to give off this image off a puritan past, and I tried to make her corset as similar to a sister of Battles' I could manage with my green stuff skills. I feel I should score it with lines to further the similarities between them, but I am scared I'd botch it up. I'd like to throw a special thankyou to PDH, I stared for hours at his Inquisitrix's corset to try and glean some ideas of how he did it. I also gave her a blouse on the rest of her visible torso, and toyed around with giving her a crevatte or somesuch, but quickly found I'm not good enough at sculpting teeny tiny things like that quite yet. I've hit a bit of a rut with her at the moment though. I want to add something to her rear

cos it's glaringly tiny, and also borderline questionable on a miniature. I thought about a skirt, kind of like a smaller version of the ruffled rear on PDHs inquisitrix, but smaller. but I thought I would ask you guys first. Any suggestions? Bit scared to undertake more work on her, but I think I've done fairly well so far! As for her hands, a true 28mm scale miniature is a nightmare to find hands for, but I've found one on the dark elf sorceress, and another from the finecast lichepriest. I think they're slightly different sizes, but not recognizable so. For her hair, I'm thinking a sister of silence type topknot.

What do you folks think then?

Hey mate,

I really feel like a fool for not posting here any earlier! This thread is chock full of awesome stuff! I especially like the INQ models -- as expected

Have to turn in for the night, so just a couple of initial impressions:

- I cannot tell you how brilliant I think your idea for that weelchair bound Inquisitor is! Plus you have chosen an immensely interesting base model. The chair looks great so far. I am only wondering whether you should perhaps rather go for an antigrav chair instead of the treads. I fear they might bulk out the model too much, when the focus should clearly be on the wasted Inquisitor sitting in the chair.

- You're also off to a pretty great start with the new Inquisitrix! The GS sculpting is very good so far. She'll need more work, of course, but I think this has all the makings of a truly outstanding model!

I hope that working on these will serve to give you something worthwile to do and a creative outlet. Sorry to hear about your GF - stuff like that can really suck the marrow from your bones, although I hope you'll be able to find your feet as well as your hobby mojo. Looking at the thread though, there's so much cool stuff that I feel we don't have to worry too much!

Will post more after sleeping! Keep up the great work!

LOL... you give up too easily, Ghosty. You know the =I= 28/ =I=munda/ Necro clique accounts for a very, VERY small base of people here at Dakka. Not to say people aren't interested, you've gotten quite a few views since I got back to the office and checked last.

I too like the look - EXCELLENT choice going with the Slaanesh Champion legs. (though I inwardly and quietly curse you for chopping apart such a beautiful model) It almost looks like the hoof legs have high-heels, excellent calf form... and I'm gonna stop right there.

The bustier/corsette looks excellent as well, though I do hope you clean up the straps- bit off-kilter. I agree with Panda- a very fetching model, but I assume you want to give her hair or a witch-hunter hat? Either way, very exciting to see this coming together.

Looking forward to what you do with this - it takes balls to do a helluvalot of sculpting or trying it from scratch... (I would not try this personally, as I'm a total puss, so hats off you to you, man with brass balls) as the product could be a result of wasted time, effort, and GS. You, however, are on a roll here. I'm hoping you see that in the figurine itself, so keep going with the model- it looks fantastic.

-Remi

P.S. - Sorry to hear about your lady friend as well.

I like what you've done thus far with the Inquisitrix... And I really wish I had more to add in terms of what to add to her. I know that right now the idea of a skirt on that mini reminds me of Reaper's vampire hunter girl. Not necessarily a bad thing, but something a bit more flowing or ruffled might be better for her.

Whatever you end up doing, great work thus far and keep it up

Right, now that I have had my beauty sleep, I return to give some rather more substantial feedback, as promised Oh, and I agree with Remi, btw: It's sometimes a little hard to elicit a response from the community. And sometimes it makes you want to pull your hair out, because you so desperately want others to comment on those models you just build, right? Relax, it's something we all have to deal with

That being said, let me add some ideas and remarks about all of the retinue members, if I may:

Inquisitor in wheelchair:
Well, there's not much to say. I love this guy! Reading carefully through your posts again yesterday, I realised that you'd already come up with the antigrav idea yourself. It'll be interesting to see how you'll manage to get the model to sit in the chair, but I guess it'll be quite feasible. One thing, though: In your fluff, you are writing about a blanket over the Inquisitor's legs. However, I would prefer the atrophied, bandaged legs to remain visible. It's quite a cool detail that also adds to the overall sinister effect, and it would be a shame to cover it with GS!

Female Interrogator/Inquisitrix:
Like I said, she's coming along nicely! Regarding her hands, FW may be the way to go here, since their hands are usually much slighter than those of regular GW models. I just received some Vraksian Renegade Militia arms as part of a bitz swap the other day, and they are so thin and delicate. The same probably goes for their DKOK arms and similar stuff, so that would be one option of getting hands that work.
Oh, and I really wouldn't give her a SoS style topknot: I realise you want her to have a slightly radical look, but that would be too much of a good thing, in my opinion. If you wanted to really hit it out of the park, you should give her a hairdo like that of the girl on the left in this picture. You may even want to use the whole head instead of going through the hell of having to sculpt something like that. But I think the braid would go well with her clothes as well as underlining her femininity. I also really love that flower as a small element of playfulness (compare PDH's Callydia Benadice), but that's just me. Come to think of it, there are very nice, prefab plastic braids in some DE kits (Wyches and Scourges, respectively).

Pitfighter:
Well, this guy is great! Like PDH, I really like the bionics added to his belly. And while I am not yet 100% sold on the welding mask, that is one detail that could really work once painted!

Kroot:
Well, I've gone through the trouble of building a Kroot for an Inquisitorial retinue myself lately, so I can only say that I quite like this guy!

Sslyth:
The base model is extremely interesting, and while I initially wasn't really feeling the bow, I have begun to like it. The important thing to keep in mind here is that the bow looks like it could also be used as a CC weapon, with those blades on its ends. Regarding the arrows, what about using vicious, nearly organic looking projectiles. Isn't there something in all those Tyranid sprues that might work?

Gunslinger:
Once again, a stroke of genius! Loving the mask and the "Shhh!" pose. My gripe with the model is that, instead of looking atrophied, the left arm rather seems a bit too long, but that may just be the picture. In any case, I would probably drop the mutant angle altogether: The "Fallen noble" idea is much more interesting, and by adding mutation on top, you may run the risk of "overcrowding" his background, if you know what I mean.

Phew, look at me rambling on and on... I guess we can take it as proof for the fact that this retinue has all the makings of something truly special! I am very much looking forward to seeing some progress on these guys!

Hope this helps!

Interesting. I think it looks like she is wearing prosthetic/bionic leg things, like her feet are somewhere near the middle of the model's calf, and the hoofed foot is a mechanical part, maybe to increase her movement speed or just for looks - like she is emulating the assorted hooved beasts of chaos. It's a good look.

Not really a fan of the garter and exposed skin, it seems a bit gratuitous and it's hard to imagine an inquisitor being taken seriously in that sort of attire - although it works for a full blown Slaanesh enthusiast.

Thankyou guys, it means a lot

HF Izanagi - When it came to cutting off the legs, I didn't even have a saw to cut them carefully, which is why the backs of them have quite a bit of greenstuff work on them. You have no idea how much I sobbed when I was cleaving them off with a large pair of pliars. The hoof legs actually do have heels incidently! I'll try and get a picture up at some point to showcase it, and they were really what sold me on using them, they just look so sinister and feminine, whilst giving off the image of 'powered' Armour.

Izanagi and Krautscientist - Hair is still very much open to ideas. I have a topknot from the chaos warrior box set that looks pretty swanky on her head, but I am open for ideas. A witch hunters hat could work, for example, or a long braided ponytale. Also, Kraut, the only reason I'm a bit reluctant on the head swaps, is again, this lady is mostly 'true' 28mm. Her head really is small, and I'd be quite reluctant to lop her head off and replace it to find her new one is a bit too big! But I think I could go for a braid.

Xeno99 - Thanks man I can see what you mean about the skirt... maybe back to the drawing board? I'll go interneting to try and find a better option.

Thankyou guys for the feedback so far!

I definitely see your point! Like I said, the DE braids may be the safest way to go. In the Wych kit, the braids come as extra pieces (to be attached to the squadleader's head), and in the Scourge kit, the long braid is a part of the champion's head, but would be very easy to cut off. I really wouldn't use the topknot with a shaved head, but that's just my personal taste.

Anyway, looking forward to your next update!

Hi folks. I have an update coming, but I need a little bit of advice first.

You all remember this lovely lady, right?

You may also remember a bit of conflict over her hair. I thought a topknot, others thought it'd be a bad idea. I'm starting to see their point however, and I'm unsure what to do with it. So I'm asking you lovely folks for a bit of advice. Here's the options:

I own this miniature, and was planning on embiggening her to make her more human sized. However, this is a LOT harder than I anticipated, and she is as of now still untouched in my bitz box. So my question to you is, would this head be a good replacement? It'd be a fairly simple conversion, but my only fear is that I would be ruining the original model it comes from. What to do?

Option 2:

This was the original idea, to have a Sister of Silence style topknot going on. On the plus, I already have a piece primed for attachment, thanks to the warriors of Chaos Boxed set, but my peers (curse you Kraut! ) have disagreed, and I am inclined to agree.

Option 3:

Recently I have been playing Farcry 3. There's a character in the game called Citra, who is really something. Would her hairstyle fit the miniature do you think? This is a whimsical thought, but I would seriously love to hear your input! The miniature itself is taking on a bit of a tribal look as is, so it could be something to consider.

I'll probably have an update up later today if you guys are interested, but I would absolutely love to hear your feedback!

Thankyou,

Ghosty

Can't believe I haven't found this before, you have quite the talent there Ghosty, I'd go for option 2 or 3 myself, and i have to thank you for just giving me the inspiration for throwing together 3 fellas for my mechanicum warband

Howdy folks, as promised, here's that update. It's only a day or so late!

So, on the topic of the hairstyle, I would still love to hear your feedback, I forgot to mention the 4th option was a long braid, ala Rapunzel style. For the sake of conveniancy, I've included the topknot blut tacked onto the miniature to help you visualize it. Anyway, onto the topic at hand!

First things first, I cracked out the paints today and sat down to do some work on getting some of my team up to scratch. Bare metal, or simply undercoated will not do! So I started to get to work on the Henchmen part of the project. These guys and girls are not the heroic characters and personalities you see in the Inquisitors themselves, these are the poor sods whose job is to catch a bullet if it comes to that situation, and for me to get back into the swing of painting after a couple months break. I was fairly rusty when i started, but I quikcly got the knack of it, and even was fairly proud of my freehand attempts. So here is the gang so far:

Front and center we have a lovely Guardswomen, and to her right we have Huss's Feudal warrior. Both have now got the predominant base colours put down on them, and I'm starting on all the little details. Behind them we have (horribly hidden, but don't worry, there's better pictures below!) A pilot, a Veteran and a Skitarii, who I've only really started the basework on now.

As you can see, there's not much to look at at the moment, the pilot is going to have some dirty blue overalls, and the Skitarii is going to have bluey grey pallid skin.

The Feudal World Stormtrooper has the fabric finished, and I'm starting to add edge highlighting to his plate armour. I really am pleased with how he's coming along; he's a unique soldier, but the colours tie him visually in with Huss. My plan is to have black armour and cream clothes running through all his retinue to tie them in together. Whilst fiddling with the miniature, I freehanded some sergeants stripes onto his arm, but otherwise, there is stil lsome way to go before all the visual ties come together. I also want to considerable weather his armour, and dirty up his clothing. The idea behind this soldier is that he doesn't fear bullets, because his feudal world armour protects him adequately (that and probably some medieval indoctrination!), so he callously stands in the path of destruction more often than not. To emulate this I really want the front of his to be heavily scuffed and rusted, whereas his back will be less so.

Oh, and how should I paint his Metal Skull mask? I want it to contrast against the black of his armour, but I don't want to paint it bone.

This is the first time I've freehanded in a long time, and it was quite a big undertaking. However, I think it's turned out pretty well, though obviously it could do with some touch ups. I'm not sure whether I should continue the pattern on the inside of her cloak, or if I should paint it a different colour. What do you think anyway?

I am very bad at keeping my attention on any one model for any fixed period of time. It's a curse, as I have about 7 miniatures in the converting pile already, with maybe two dozen more ideas swimming around my head. So obviously, instead of working on these, I made a new miniature! This is my WIP of a Tau renegade. The way I see it, is that if a Tau abandons the Greater Good, and his allies, or for whatever reason, he gets cut off from resupply, he's going to have to fend for himself, and repair or replace his equipment as best as he can. With this in mind, I gave myself a go at building a Tau warrior, with only the few parts from a horribly mauled firewarrior found in my incursions to the Bits pile! I wanted to try and make it look like he has made do with what he can, trying to maintain his equipment with imperial substitutes.

Imperial issue armour and clothing, with the remnants of his shin armour strapped on, one of the few pieces from his old Fire Warrior Days. He's making home improvements to a headset too, to try and replicate the Tau design.

The miniature itself uses mostly Guard pieces, with the exception of his feet, which I managed to save, and a bit of the thigh. The head is converted from a zombies, and I think it has worked out fairly well. I plan to give him a sort of sash, or poncho, hence the greenstuff blob on his upper torso. I'm also toying with the idea of trying to 'Tau-ize' his armour a bit, but we'll see how that goes.

Heresy! Bastardized Tau Pulse Rifle and Lasgun. I'm planning on replacing the las battery with a plasma nodule or something similar, but I'm pretty happy with how it's going at the moment. Gosh I do like to tinker!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Continuing onwards, here's how the lady Interrogator is progressing. I've pretty much figured out her loadout now, but her arms are blutacked on presently, for the sake of convenience, whilst I try to finish her corset and hair off.

I want to continue the radical/puritan conflict vibe across with her arms, which is why in one hand she is wielding a chainsword, a symbol of purity, and fanaticism, but in her other hand she's wielding witchfire, or chaotic magiks.

Another angle. The chainsword handle needs to be cut down, and a little more work done before I'm happy with it, but I really like her stance she's in currently. She's keeping the blade between her and her opponent, whilst dark energy coils around her fingertips. The way she's hiding it behind her kind of gives the image she's reluctant to use it, which conveys the conflict I'm trying to represent.

A friend pointed out there was nothing to 'power' her power armoured legs, so I added a small boiler/engine on her back, cut from a sentinel feul tank. I think it's small enough to not damage her silhouette, but large enough to satiate my desire for things to look just 'right'.

The topknot is still a maybe, I would love to hear your ideas, but what do you think of it currently? Better or worse than you expected?

On another bizarre update, I found use for the dark elf sorceress I bought a while back, by using her hand for my Interrogator, as their scale was very similar. I'm now left with an armless lass, and I've started to formulate the possibility of using it as a daemonhost? What do you think?

I'm thinking a deathmask or somesuch on her face, and her body covered in chains and purity scroll bindings. I really meant it when I said I had a bunch of miniatures on the go!

Possibly one of the most fiddly updates however, was getting my Inquisitor to sit in his goddamn grav-chair. In the end I had to forsake his upper legs, as there was no real way of getting them to sit, and I had to rebuild them with greenstuff.

Probably even more of a agitating development, I have lost the other shin. I'm not really sure what I'm going to do, but I'm thinking making a greenstuff mould of the other, and trying to print a replacement. It's a real pain though, because the other alternative, giving him a bionic leg or somesuch is really against the background i had in mind. If you have any ideas, I would gladly hear them, I'm a bit stuck.

Another angle. Notice the servo skull hidden laspistol. I like to think if negotiations aren't going to plan, the Inquisitor will shoot for kneecaps. It was extra fiddly getting a little jaw shaped piece of greenstuff around the barrel, but I think it gives it a really sinister vibe. It might be fairly impractical, but what's 40k if not impractical?!

The other Angle. He's leaning on the arm of the chair, a fortuitous conincedence with the positioning of the base model. It also made gluing him to the chair much, much easier. Notice the little parchment coming out of the side of the arm; possibly some readings of power in the chair, or some pointless logistics about grav-stability. Or, as my friend pointed out, bog roll for his floating toilet, which, seeing as this Inquisitor is crippled, and unable to stand by himself, fatefully, my friend might actually be right!

All in all, I hope you've liked my update today, and I eager await your responses on my few queries!

thanks,

Ghosty

Sorry for taking a while to reply, ghosty! I've been visiting a couple of friends over the weekend, so I am only getting around to all kinds of hobby related stuff now

That's quite an update, mate! Great job!

Here's my feedback:

- The left arm on the feral worlder looks quite a bit too long now that there's some paint on him. Sorry, didn't realise it before. I think the easiest way to fix it would be to cut off the arm below the armour plates on the model's left shoulder, then cut out the upper third or so (just above the folds in the fabric) and reattach.

- The rogue Tau is a pretty nifty idea! You did a great job on the face, and the cobbled-together look of the weapon is really cool as well!

- ah, the lady with the hairdo problems again While I think the topknot actually works rather well, my problem with it is that it doesn't make her look like an Interrogator or Inquisitrix, but rather like some kind of Death cult assassin or warrior acolyte. But that's just me. Still, if you wanted to play up the contrast between her puritan and radical tendencies, a more "ladylike" approach could work better. I stay by my earlier assessment that a long braid could work rather nicely. Oh, and don't replace the head with that of that resin miniature. The facial expression doesn't really fit the character as you have described it.

On a related note, that chainsword looks really awkward: In my opinion, the blade needs to be tilted upwards quite a bit to look natural. As it stands, it looks like the glue you used wasn't strong enough to keep it in place. Come to think about it, maybe you should give her a more slender sword. A shaved down Dark Elf corsair sword or the Baneblade tank commander's power sword might do the trick.

- I think the Dark Elf sorceress makes for a great daemonhost. Why not just use a parchment with an =][= symbol ro cover her face for that extra eerie japanese ghost look? Is her mouth open, btw? In that case, I'd just do something to cover her eyes. Or leave the eyes uncovered and add some vestigial horns to her forehead. In any case, the base model is pure gold for what you have in mind!

- the wheelchair bound Inquisitor has to be my absolute favourite by far! Fantastic job so far! Losing both the upper thighs and left shin are unfortunate, yet they should probably be easy enough to rebuild with a mix of plasticard and greenstuff. I agree that a bionic leg wouldn't work -- if he had augmentic replacements, why would he need a wheelchair in the first place?
In any case, you've got a true winner on your hands with the Inquisitor, and he should look really interesting alongside his more nimble Interrogator...

Anyway, hope this helps! Keep up the great work!

Loving the new figs - the skull-centurion guardsman stands out as my favorite- gotta be the head.

And as for the Lady Inquisitor - damn. Such a great idea, I wish I had the balls to try that out. She looks fantastic, and I'm definitely sold on the final product. Keep going, and definitely looking forward to her paintjob. Any ideas to the colors you're thinking of?

Nice work! I'm a fan of the Interrogator lady, though I'm curious how the 'witchfire' is going to look once painted with the rest of the mini. I'm not sure how open the Dark Elf sorceress's mouth is open enough or not, but somehow the idea of it either spewing out more of that ethereal energy already around her, or locked in a scream perhaps, strikes me as appropriate for a daemonhost. Looking forward to seeing the finished product regardless.

Hey Folks! Time for another update today. My Easter break has almost come to an end (how quickly has it sped past!) so I decided I'd focus on trying to finish off as many little projects as I can before I head back to University. So you'll get to finally see some of the long term projects finally come to a finish today. I'm very pleased with how everything has come together. So without further ado, I give you:

High Inquisitor Balthazarr Vorst

Once a prolific and influential member of the Ordo Malleus, High Inquisitor Balthazarr Vorst fell from the high echelons of grace after he successfully managed something in his line of work that few others could boast; he got old. After spending hundreds of years in the service of the Emperor, and fighting the foul denizens of the warp a hundredfold times, what brought him low was the stigma attached to the old. Despite being a powerful Psyker, and once a great warrior, in his advanced age, he was seen unfit for field operations, and it was suggested he retire, something Vorst took as a personal insult. He continued his investigations, much to the chagrin of his younger peers, striving to recreate his glory days as a warrior of the Inquisition, but after each successful mission, he found himself pushed further away from the golden light of the Imperium. Orders from on high were projected out across the Imperium, commanding the Inquisition, the Imperial Guard, even the Astartes to deny any requests Vorst made, whether it resources, soldiers, or ships, in an attempt to annex him into admitting defeat. In turn, this isolation from the Imperium pushed Balthazarr to increasingly radical approaches in order to complete his missions, culminating in an attempt at binding a Daemon to a 'willing' supplicant, on a small Agri World somewhere near the Eastern Fringe. It was a disaster. The Daemon broke free during the binding ritual, destroying the original intended host, and began to wrack absolute chaos across the planet. The Daemon had been much more powerful than Balthazarr had intended, and indeed, in the few short minutes it was free in realspace, it turned the planet into a nightmare. Balthazarr however, was at peace. He found he had an opportunity to relive his glory days, and save a planet from doom and destruction. Following a great battle of wills, Vorst managed to banish the Daemon back to the warp, but not before it wracked Balthazarrs body, and chillingly, stole his shadow. Vorst has never recovered from the battle with the Daemon, his already old body had been withered and ruined, and his mind almost ripped asunder. However, in a terrifying development, several days later, his shadow reappeared. But it was... different. Sometimes in the corner of his eye, he could see it moving independently, long fingers reaching for his throat...
The shadow creature is bound to Vorst, and nothing Vorst can do will remove it. He fled the planet shortly after, leaving it a place of devilish insanity for the Inquisition to mop up. He was unsurprisingly declared heretic, and now has the forces of the Ordo Hereticus in pursuit of him. But Vorst is wily in his age, and has escaped capture several times. He now operates in the furthest reaches of the galaxy, in dodgy backwaters of ill repute, trying to free himself from his damnable shadow, and keeping questionable company.

I've finally finished him! Horrendously, the last bits of making his arm was possibly the most fiddly part of the miniature, but I am glad he is finally complete. He looks a bit angry, doesn't he? Please give me feedback on him, he's been a bit of a mission to finally finish. Now to undercoat, and get him painted up!

Really cool, great pose and character. Is the chair going to be hovering like 90s Xavier or will you put wheels or tracks on it? If hovering I suggest some sort of more obvious propulsion, some crude jets or something maybe.

Really like the fluff as well

It is a hover chair! There actually is an anti gravity propulsion pad on the base of the chair, built from the sentinel flood light. I think it looks fairly convincing, especially when it'll be painted all blue and glowey.

Thanks for the compliments! Your blog has been very inspirational; I love todays update with the Arbite!

Ghosty he is nice. Your GSing is getting better and better all the time. He looks like a right grumpy sod.

If I were to suggest one thing is there are not enough wires connecting him to his chair. Of course I just have a thing for wires in the back of peoples heads!

Hi again guys, really appreciating the feedback, so keep it rolling in!

@PDH/Karrock: I toyed around a bit with wiring earlier in the project. He has a tube running down by his spine feeding into his collar. I'm not sure how much more I want to add to him, for fear it will obscure the back of the seat, which I plan to paint sweat stained. Still, I'll pull up some wiring and see if I cant make it look like he's more attached to the chair. I also planned on having a small oxygen mask and canister built onto his chair, in case he came into a situation where there was low oxygen/ had breathing difficulties. Would that work do you think?

Great great fluff, man. "High Inquisitor Balthazarr Vorst fell from the high echelons of grace after he successfully managed something in his line of work that few others could boast; he got old." Such a wonderful line. Also like how the very Imperium he used to fight for just started to shun him and force him to extremes left on his own.

And crazy how you took the standing model and put him in a wheelchair. Can't wait to see this guy finished and painted.

Well, like I said earlier, that Inquisitor is a true standout piece! Fantastic job! I also really like the fluff!

As for the model, I love how you've managed to make the legs look atrophied and useless: The loss of his left leg seems to have been a fortunate development, after all!

While I probably wouldn't add that much cabling to him (I really like how he's leaning forward in the chair!), I think the chair itself could use some more purity seals and other doodads. And maybe a servo skull floating over his left shoulder, attached by its dangling cables to the chair itself?

Anyway, great model! Keep up the great work!

Hello Ghosty

I love the work you've done with the Kroot, those Kroot juves are a really nice compliment to your 'counts as' team. I am hoping to work out some form of counts as Necro team too at some point, so will continue watching this thread for inspiration there.

Your green stuffing has improved throughout your thread, your latest figs are very slick! I have a soft spot for the renegade Tau but that's probably because I dislike goody two shoes Tau ;P

Keep up the good work, looking forward to the continuing painting!

Hey folks, sorry for not an immediate update, I've been bereft of all motivation to work on my miniatures, let alone post. My personal life has got a bit hectic again, and I might not be able to post with such frequency I would like to. on top of this, I have University starting up in again in a few days, and it's exam season, so any and all posts will be few and far between sadly. Still, let's not go out without a bang, eh? I present to you:

Interrogator Caitlyn 'Benedice'

Who started as this:

And ended up as this:

Under the sway of the Imperiums great reach, there are thousands of planets that have been industrialized, and of these, there are hundreds which the 'marvels' of the Imperiums technology have not yet reached. Indeed, on such planets, there is little civilization past the token garrison in the planets main, or only city. But despite such backwards lifestyles, it cannot be denied that those who live in these worlds are far from disorganized. Some planets work on a feudal basis, not unlike ancient Terras origins, others are little more than nomadic tribes vying to survive, following great herds of wild cattle across epic continental grasslands, or fish at the coasts. Such planets normally raise hardy men and natural warriors, the best of whom are taken in yearly conscriptions for the Imperial Guard, or rarely, few are chosen for the great honor of becoming a sky-warrior.

One such planet, a backwater near the tau/imperium conflict zone on the Eastern Fringe, Caitlyn was born into the world by her tribes Witch Doctor. At birth, it was already noted that she was...special. A natural born Psyker, Caitlyn quickly learnt to use her powers freely, without the constraints of the Imperiums interference. Such was the way of life on her planet, and under the tutelage of the tribes elders, she honed her skills. It was then that the Imperium arrived in force. Her Planet was decided to be of major tactical importance as a bulwark against the foul xenos incursions. In a few short years, the great open plains were turned to a network of trench systems and bunkers, mountains became bastions, and the seas were laced with mines. The lifestyles of her people were forever changed. That planets populace was quickly conscripted into arms, whilst the young were forcibly taught the light of the imperium, and their 'superstitious nonsense' was beaten out of them in hastily erected monasteries overseen by the strict guidance of the Adeptus Sororitas.

It's all I've got for the moment. I'm gonig to try and work out the kinks a bit more with her background and her look, and hopefully get her undercoated before I leave. What do you think?

Here's the progress of the Nurgle Lord. I want him to look nice and unhealthy, without going into the 'Nurgles Rot' spectrum, so I've washed him with a pale blue, and a red; he looks nice and gross! Also, now he's got some paint on him, you can see more of the detail and work that's gone into this miniature! I hope you like him! And a question for you guys: Do you think he should have some form of Tattooing? I'm a little nervous I admit to try and paint freehand, especially onto his skin, which the recipe was a nightmare to produce, but I think he could look really nice, and it'd break up an otherwise large area of skin. I was thinking either some Imperial style tattoo, or maybe a tribal design?

Little has changed to my Feudal Trooper, other than I'm reworking what I want him to be wielding; I felt currently the retinue he is part of is a bit limited to short ranged weaponry, so I've decided to swap his shotgun out to a longer ranged weapon. He's got his metal painted now, and then it'll be onto the finishing touches!

(Apologies for the hair) She's also looking like she'll be finished this weekend, I'm just considering what colour I will paint her trousers? She has no affiliation to a warband (being just an NPC) so she can have just standard camo? I'm not sure, I'd love some advice!

Here comes my Skitarii! He's a developed conversion, here he is prepaint, and then, here's the progress I've made. I've largely been tinkering only with his skin, I was torn between lifeless skin, and a more healthy colour. In the end, the Ogryn Flesh wash made my mind up for me, but I'm happy with how it came out. It makes the rends in his skin pop more.

Finally, here's my Pilot. He's nothing special, and currently is in Limbo between being just an NPC, and a memeber of a retinue. He's fairly boring, so I don't think he should stay in center of the limelight. Also, white, is horrible to paint.

I hope you've enjoyed my little post on my progress. This is largely for PDH, who I'm sure has lost sleep over how reluctant I am to pick up a paintbrush Anyway, once this batch is finished, I'll move onto the next group, who'll likely include my Interrogator, and the Wheelchair Inquisitor! Until next time, feedback will be greatly appreciated!

I enjoyed it

Nice paintjobs. I like the skitarii, and the nurgle lord. His skin is done really well, since you've chosen not to go with nurgle's rotten skin.

Although white is hard to paint, I think you've done a great job on the pilot. Especially his helmet is done good IMO

Hi everyone, so after a bit of an extended hiatus, I've found time to return to the hobby, at least for a bit. I also have high hopes to potentially continue this blog into my 3rd year, but we will have to wait and see. For those of you who've kept up with my endeavors so far will be acutely aware of how sporadic I am at posting, due to a dreadful combination of a high workload in term times, and the infrequency of the motivation I need to continue. Anyway, I am rambling on about this and that when I'm sure you have come to see pretty pictures. And, for once, I think I can deliver!

You see, whilst I've not posted for a while, I have when the mood has stricken me, picked up the paintbrush or the sculpting tools, and tinkered. Before I quite realized it, it has occurred to me that I have quite a lot to show you. So, let's get to it!

Let's start off simple. Remember this guy? He was the founder of my little Inq28 hobby, the first one I made, and by far my favorite piece. I'm thinking of changing up his storyline perhaps; maybe not his overall goals, but definitely his backstory. Anyway, I snapped a new photo of him for your pleasure, but there's nothing new here. Moving on!

Remember where we started?

How far we've progressed! the paintjob is still in progress, but I definitely think she's coming close to being finished. Whereas Huss (my first guy up top) was my first serious foray into sculpting, Caitlyn here is a showcase of my current skills. I'm very happy with her, and I'm trying to do her justice with a nice paintjob. I feel the subtleties of her face have been lost in a poor photo, but Ive taken care to not give her hard highlights, and have instead gone with a softer approach of careful blending. I then gave her eyebrows and a soft pink shad for her lips, and I think it's come out to a degree of success. There's still some work to go; I need to paint up her mini reactor for her power armored leggings, and her corset needs a lot of work, but I'm pretty excited with how she's coming along. Moving on!

Two minor NPCs are looking to be pretty much finished. The Pilots skin needs to be finished, but i cant imagine that will take long, and the vet. will need his binoculars painted, but that is for another day. The Pilot (boy in blue) is really not that interesting, and I cant see him ever being so, but I took the time to spice him up with a little wing motif on his back, to associate him with his occupation. It's a little rough and ready, but he's only a minor npc. The Veteran, who I'm sure you will agree looks pretty unhinged was great fun to paint. I think the warpaint really gave this guy his backstory. I imagine he was saved, or witnessed some great feat from a Space Marine of the Legion of the Damned, and decided to emulate them as best he could. I'm pleased with how these two both turned out, and I hope you like them! Moving on!

The Tech-boxer is now in his final stages too. I need to paint his steel stomach on his back, but I've not decided quite how I want to do it yet. Ideally I'll pick up some new paints, and have some fun with him. The only other thing I want to do to him is give him a big tattoo on his shoulder, but I'm too chicken to give it a go just yet. I might try a transfer, what do you guys think? I'd also like to write something on the metal bar across his left gauntlet, but I have come up with no ideas yet. If you have one, feel free to let me know! Something short, but preferably not cliche is best. Moving on!

Do you remember this fellow? Well, he's gotten a bit more attention.

He is almost finished. The metal needs a final highlight, and the black needs a sharp highlight across the board. I also need to repeat the checkered pattern across his hood. Joyous days. He's part of a mechanicus sub faction, hence the weird, non red robing, but I think it looks really striking. Armor will be a dark red (similar to her Jerkin) and the checker pattern is dependent on standing within the faction. As we can see with this one.

Similar style, red armor, white and black half and half. He is one of the lowest ranking members, as can be seen by his lack of tech. and the solid white, as opposed to a checker. He's attached to a retinue as the executioner, hence the huge scalloped axe, for those moments where the Inquisitor has no time to dish out obscure and elaborate punishments. I really enjoyed the bestial skull face, and I'm proud to say I stole the idea from members of this forum! I think it gives him a real lack of humanity, which aids him in seeming sinister, despite his size. If I hadn't previously mentioned, he's quite short! Moving on, slowly and surely.

Just a quick look in here. My Imperial Operative is very WIP. I'm just trying to sort out the plain black areas on him before moving on with new colours. Not too exciting, so let's move on.

Who remembers this guy?! The concept was great; I really love it, and I've not given up on him yet, but I decided I wanted a different base model for him. So what could I do with the remaining parts? the answer, of course, is to build a big bounty hunter.

All attitude, no nonsense. Still an early PIP, but I'm excited with where he's going. I'm thinking his skull mask with be red, but chipped all to hell. Added bonuses include a mohawk, a chest mounted light, and a custom bolter built from a vindicare rifle. As for his backstory, I have none, except that I think he might be a former miner, to explain his chestlight and the various canisters on his back. If you have any ideas, feel free to throw them my way! Moving onwards.

Wrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyy!

I present an update to my Eversor Assassin. I know many people are not a fan of the concept of an Eversor in Inquisitor, due to their menacing 'kill everything and everyone' attitude towards life, but I just couldn't resist. He's a very late stage WIP, but he's not made it to basecoat yet due to his incredible ability to fall apart (those fingers are very brittle) in the slightest breeze. I really need to reinvest in a Pinvice drill, though that would not cure the fingers! As for a backstory, I think he's possibly a very, very knackered Eversor. Afterall, all four limbs are at least partially replaced with Bionics, and his chest is very lean. What do you guys think?

I have two more pieces to show, my basically finished Daemonhost, and a Naval Commissar, but I'll snap some better photos of them tomorrow. I hope you have enjoyed reading through, and I eagerly await feedback!

Hi everyone, I promised I'd follow up today, and if I'm anything, it's consistent... ah, who am I kidding, ON TO THE PICTURES.

He's trying to get 'ahead' of the competition heh heh heh. Sorry. So this headless fellow has been an absolute nightmare to make from the get-go. My original intention was to simply to remove the arms from the old metal Commissar, and give him a shotgun. What quickly transpired was that I am terrible at sawing, and that it's oh to easy to ruin a miniature. It was a damn shame as well, whilst the base model wasn't the prettiest ever, he served my old Imperial Guard army as it's leader for a long time, and leaving him broken and bent seemed a poor end. So, I gave another bash at him.

He is obviously in a WIP stage still, but I think he's shaping up well. Let's do an in depth look at the bits. He has old Commissar legs, I do believe it's circa rogue trader era (or thereabouts) Imperial Guard Torso, renegade Enforcer arms, and a chaos knight fist. He's still waiting on his head, but I haven't found one I'm satisfied with. I feel he has to have a commissar one to tie him together visually.

The concept is he is, or used to be a Naval Commissar, whose duties were to patrol the densely packed Bowels of the Starships ensuring that all the Crew kept in line. I also, though I cannot recall where I read about it, remember reading about how Priests would work their way through the ship during Warp Travel giving comfort to the crew, but also keeping an eye out for Daemonic Possession. It was a very cool theme, and one that has stuck with me. I like to think that whilst the crew obviously hate and fear him, they are also glad of his presence when Jenkins starts to twitch.

I really wanted him to be heavily armored, akin to a voidborn, and I think that's really worked out. Lots of plate to protect him, and a huge shotgun to give as good as he gets.

I hope you like him, we shall see the Daemonhost this afternoon perhaps!

Anyway, let's show you a little bit of what I've been working on recently, as it's come to my attention that I think I've just crossed the threshhold of having more figures painted (or at least basecoated) than i do in the modelling phase.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is my Daemonhost.

Sorry for a little bit of a picture spam. My idea is she'll be something akin to a battle sister, or a female of a similar position, that my Radical Inquisitor has used as a host for his Daemon, in the hopes that her Holy soul would go some way towards aiding him in controlling the beast within. It's obviously worked too effectively, as the Daemon cannot stand to be in her, but cannot leave due to the binding. It has become a fearsome aura of darkness that coils around her, desperately trying to corrupt her soul to allow itself purchase within. To this end, the hose has been blinded in an attempt to alleviate her from the evils darting before her eyes at least.

I'm very happy with her, and I cant wait to get down to painting. What do you think?

Oh, and I mentioned earlier today that I was trying to work on a pure villain, for despite the intensely radical nature of my wheelchair Inquisitor, he still believes he is working towards good. Plus, I wanted some kind of Super Villain/common enemy all my Inquisitors would face.

He/it is very WIP, as I'm trying to find a way to convey how I imagine him. I want him to be very mechanical in nature, whilst trying to pull away from the Necron base miniatures look. I'll see what you guys say before I do anymore to him, but I am excited to see how he comes together.

Thanks for looking guys, I hope to hear some lovely feedback!

Nice work throughout Ghosty! I really like the villain guy- has a bit of a General Grievous look at the moment. That's the old Necron Pariah mini as the base, right?

Edit- Also cool to see the before/after with Caitlyn. Always fun to see the evolution of the mini/character over time.

Thanks! Yes it is based on the Pariah; I really loved those miniatures, but only ever picked up the one before they were discontinued.

Grievous eh? My next update will definitely help that likeness. It's funny though, over on AmmoBunker, everyone thinks he looks like Dr Doom.

I'm okay with both likenesses.

Definitely Doctor Doom with the green hood and silver face. The new bounty hunter and eversor are looking great.

Hi everyone! It's been a hectic week or two, and I haven't had much time to make some meaningful progress on anything yet. Instead I'm going to pick your brains a little bit for some ideas for my villain. So, I've made a little progress on Dr Doom (The nickname seems to be sticking) but I want to wait until he's put together to show him off. The biggest issue at the moment is trying to make him look less like a Necron. What I enjoy the most about the Pariah miniature is that it has it's own distinct flavour on the Necron theme, but it still ties in visually. This however, has become a bit of a pain when it comes to making my Dr Doom seem unique.

The Answer I'm coming up with currently is bare arms showing off musculature, and perhaps a pair of small horns. Afterall, horns shouldn't just be restricted to the followers of Chaos. As for what he is; I want it to be deliberately ambiguous (part of the reason behind the cyborg body) but if he ever was a human, he left that behind a long time ago. There's definitely going to be hints of him being possibly Eldar, certain visual cues, but it's not going to be easy to ascertain whether or not he was once a space elf, or whether he simply has an interest in their trinkets.

As for background, I still haven't come up with a good name for him yet, and it's very shaky, but the idea is that he's like a local scourge of a collection of planets, but due to him keeping a low profile, he has largely escaped the retribution of an organized authority. No one, apart from himself, seems to know what his ultimate goal seems to be, as he seemingly acts in a random and chaotic manner; on one planet he may be instigating a small scale revolt in a mining town over the wages paid, and on another he may be carefully micromanaging a small tradepost to become a large and profitable organization. Some planets he may introduce a large and dangerous creature to the ecosystem, just to see what would occur, and on others he will simply raid and pillage, taking slaves and butchering livestock. It is due to this random anarchy that he has managed to avoid a large-scale investigation on him, as his actions seem to be those of a madman, not a mastermind. It is only Inquisitor Huss and Inquisitrix Caitlyn who believe otherwise, seeing these random acts as part of an intricate web with an ultimate goal in mind, and in a rare occurrence of co-operation, these two young agents of the Imperium have pooled their resources to try and prevent it coming to fruition.

He's not aligned with chaos, so it'll be unlikely you'll ever see him summoning in a daemon of chaos, but he will have a considerable amount of bad guys at his disposal. I'm currently trying to work out how to make a Loxatl.

Anyway, I'd love for you all to give me some feedback on a name for him, background ideas/alterations and maybe some ideas to help me change him convincingly away from the Necron Aesthetic.

Also, as a last tidbit, I was trawling the itnernet today, and I came across someone familiar...

Someone has pinned one of my miniatures! Which is lovely to see, of course, and hopefully people'll take more interest in my thread! Thanks guys!
