Hello Dakka!
Just a few words to explain that this blog was originally a PM thread named "The lost Knights" dedicated to a single squad of my CSMs.
Since it's been moved to a PM Blog, I've decided to dedicate it to my whole CSM legion: the Lost.
I just hope you'll like what you'll see there.
Original post:
Hi everyone!
I've recently started a new squad of CSMs for my vanilla CSMs army the lost prophets. The principle of this army is simple : no visible mark of any specific god, no classic CSM helmet, and the same dark purple and gold color scheme for the armour.
Looking at my bitz box some times ago , I found and amazing quantity of WoC shields and I thought of using them on Chaos space marines to count as a mark of Tzeentch and to give them a very specific look.
Here are the first WIP pics (sorry for the blurry ones!)
The last two pics are from the same model, I've just magnetized the right arm to switch the special weapon.
Here's the colour scheme I will probably use, but perhaps it's too dark:
I still don't know what kind of bases I should make for them.
Any idea or comment is welcome.

Personally I don't really like CSM's.. but these are just awesome
color scheme looks great too though maybe you should paint the robe in a lighter color..

I love the look, I've done my non-plague plague marines in a similar way, shields to represent their enhanced resilience.
On the paint scheme though, your photo is dark, but your scheme looks very dark as well!

I really, really like these. Quite a simple, uncluttered look, nicely uniform. Perhaps a touch more purple in the robes?
As for the base, perhaps something light to balance out the dark figures, like a grey rubble / concrete look?

Post by: Hyenajoe
Thank you guys!
I agree that the black robes are too dark and I'd like to paint them a lighter color, but which color should I use with a purple armour? Wouldn't adding purple in the robes be too much purple on the mini?
The bases are probably going to be grey, but what should they represent? Ruins? Metal floor? Barren ground? Anything else?
If you have any idea or inspiration source, I'd be glad to read it!

These guys look properly brutal! At the moment the colour scheme isn't really working for me though. I'm actually having trouble trying to work out why it is but I think maybe with the helm, wings and shoulder pads all being the same colour there's too much purple concentrated at the top of the mini, leaving it looking a little unbalanced.
Really love the conversions though, especially the guy with the raised bolter and shield.
By the way, do they still kill the old way?

Post by: Jimsolo
I agree that the purple all at the top of the mini is a little unbalancing, but I would suggest that doing the membranes on the wings in black would fix that. I like this design because it has an elegant feel to it. Most Chaos marines have a more disorderly, dilapidated feel that makes them look less like warriors and more like spacefaring meth addicts. This has a more insidious, villainous quality to it. I hope to see more.

Post by: Morgrim
The wing membranes definitely need to be a different colour, you're losing all the detail in the muscles and struts.
Maybe keep the purple base to the tones but pull it around the wheel a bit. So, use a mixture of purple and shadow grey, maybe? Or scab red and maybe a touch of black? (Dark grey/blacks highlighted into scab red might work too.)

Post by: ounumen
Try to make a lighter shade of purple for the wings and work your way up to it. They look great otherwise.

Very nice. The paint scheme could use some more highlights, but other than that, these are pretty damn close to my perfect image of CSM marines.
Dark robes, shields, epic helmets... I'm thoroughly impressed.

Thank you for your comments, I appreciate
Well, in fact the winged CSM is one of my count as raptor, I've used this picture to show what color scheme I had already used on robed CSMs.
My problem is that I'd like to paint the robes in a different way rather than on the raptor example, in order to make a clear distinction between the two squads (OK, I know the wings are already a clear distinction ). Perhaps with a light grey or a dark red? Some kind of blue?
What do you think? any idea for the bases too?

Post by: Avach
Wow nicely done! I say make the bases some kind of snow or snowy landscape. The white from the snow is sure to be a contrast against the purple and black colour on your marines.

I like this idea, I'll prepare some test bases with various themes, but the snowy landscape seems appealing.

Wow, these look great. Much better then normal CSM. Not a fan of dark colours though. It hides the detail if done badly. Still, could work.
If you go dark, don't use pure black. Its like using pure white on a bright mini. WAY TOO MUCH for the eyes. Grey's are your friend.

Here are some news!
I've almost finished the paint job, every model is now based on snowy urban bases.
I've used the same color scheme as for my Lost Angels, but I've added some more Warlock purple wash to get it a little more contrasted. I just have to finish gold, highlight the black robes, and paint the skulls and gems.
I'll probably try a freehand job on the banner, representing a blindfolded skull.
By the way, here's a WIP of the bases (which are now grey and snowy)
I expect to be able to post pictures of the finished models within 15 days (If my 3 months old daughter leaves me enough time to get a hand on my paint box )

Some news: The whole squad is almost finished (I still have to paint some details) and here's the result:
I know, it's a little too dark on the picture, but I wished to follow my legion's colour scheme (and it's not that dark in reality).
So what do you think?

I rather like the purple and gold scheme. With such nicely converted figs it was hard to imagine colors that would work well on them, it looks really strong over all. Any close-up pics on individual figs?
20018
Post by: Hyenajoe
I will try to post close-up pictures today.
Since this post has been moved to P&M blogs, I think I will dedicate it to my CSM legion as a whole.
I've already posted some of the pictures you'll see there in various threads but rarely grouped or showing a real WIP progression.
The Lost Knights you've already seen are a variant of the Lost Angels (my 'count as' Raptors) for which I started to convert robed bodies from the DA veteran sprue, as shown in this tuto: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/307974.page
In fact I went to the whole fallen angel stuff (robes and wings) because I wasn't sure if I could convert the raptors models easily, so that they would fit my legion's main features (which implies WoC like heads or proxies).
Here's the result so far (I still haven't finished to paint them):
I'll soon finish to paint the details and I will probably add some warlock purple wash on the armor.
C&C welcome.

Do you wash your gold?
29449
Post by: weetyskemian44
I think your fallen angel winged dudes are far better than the regular raptors - which always struck me as looking like they have the head-board of a very Gothic bed stuck on their backs - to stiff and lifeless
Actually I'm thinking of the ones from the late 90s - not the very recent ones - they are pretty cool

Munch Munch! wrote:I like the royal effect you achieved. It's nice to see chaos warriors that aren't all about "OMG spikes, rings, skulls arrgh!"
Thank you Munch Munch! but I disagree on one point: skulls are a normal feature of the space marines, so I guess it's normal for them to keep the habit to stick skulls wherever they can
In fact I have a problem with the regular CSMs head (not the cult marines ones, just vanilla CSMs heads) which are screaming "Mouahahaha, look at us, we're evil, we have horns and skull faced helmets, Mouahahahah!!!"
However, I've used horned heads for some of my models. I did it for the chosen ones because I whished to give them a barbarian look (as if they were originally from a feral world) and I did it again for the possessed ones (which are supposed to be chosen ones who turned bad...or bader )
Here's a pic of a chosen one (I've made 15 of these, and I'm going to make 5 more).
It's still a WIP (even after one year!), the cloak and the base are not painted yet.
I'll try to take some WIP pictures of the next chosen ones, in order to make a tuto for CSMs with cloaks. What do you think?

I like that you used alot of horns spikes on a few models, instead of alot of spikes and horns on every model.

Guys, I didn't know anything about this band... so, reading your posts, I went on Youtube to see what kind of band it was... This name has lost almost all its appeal...
I will keep the 'lost' but they won't be prophets anymore...
@Lennysmash:The lost knights are just a single squad of my army whith special features to count as a mark of Tzeentch, like the lost angels are my count as raptors, and the lost hunters are my bikers squadron.
So my legion will now be the "lost .............", any idea what the "..............." should be?
Here are some other pictures of this army.
These are not recent ones, but I haven't made any new pics of these yet.

Here are some pics (WARNING! dark models in a lightened white environment are darker than reality ) I just hope you'll be able to see something.

Lost hunters

Ok, time for a little update!
I gave my paints some holidays , but my modelling tools have been on duty.
I've posted a tutorial about the method I've used to make my chosen ones, and I've exhumed my old silver tower project.
I've also took a lot of pictures of various models ( WIP or finished).
First, here are the two Chaos lords I've made for The Lost... The first one is the former Chaos Lord model converted with a plasma pistol and a sword from the 90's CSM assault weapon plastic sprue. The head is from the old raptor champion.
The second one is the usual chaos lord model with just a converted WoC head. He fits more the legion feature than the other one, but I confess I prefer the first one.
It's been nearly a year since I've last worked on my silver tower (lack of inspiration ) but recently I've decided to finish it before christmas, using a chocolate box, (the pyramid/prism shaped thing) and various elements from my bitzbox (and my toolbox), here's what it looks like so far:
It's far from being finished, I will add some drop pod fins and more architectural elements.
That's all for today, but I'll soon post more news.

Looking good so far man! I have a hard time getting excited about 40k chaos, but I like the scheme you are going for here, and that Silver Tower looks pretty impressive! Are you going to keep the clear cone bit transparent? Or maybe paint some scenes on it with transluscent paint and light it from within with LEDs? That would rock.

The models and the paint scheme look great really love the concepts you've used inside the army and like a previous poster mentioned it's refreshing to see a CSM army that isn't all about the spikes and skulls (Although I do love me some spikes and skulls!)

Post by: Hyenajoe
Thank you guys!
@Wehrkind: I've thought of lighting the cone, but it's far from my actual skills (you might as well give the led to a chimp, he'll probably do a better job than me ). In fact I was thinking of adding at least one balcony and perhaps some other elements (my wife suggested me to add a stair) and to do some aibrushing job on the main parts of the cone (flames or tortured souls, but with such bright colours even a daltonian could see them! )
I have nearly finished the 20 lesser daemons (the lost shadows) and will try to post pics of them this week-end. These are basically plastic Bloodletters with converted head (oh, and by the way, they are purple too )
I've converted the heads the same way Mosg did in his Cyber Daemons PM blog (check it there: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/260445.page)

Hi guys!
Yesterday I've finally managed to get enough time to make and upload new pics of my army.
So today I'll show you my lesser daemons, terminators and chosen ones. All of them are still WIP (as soon as I'll get some holidays I'll try to finish them instead of starting something new...I promise I'll try... )
So here are the Lost Champions (termies)
The Lost Warriors (Chosen ones)
1st squad (ten men,no special weapons, heads from the WFB chosen ones)
2nd squad (five men, 4 plasma pistols and a plasma gun -did I ever mention I love plasma?- plastic heads from the WoC sprue)
And the Lost Shadows (20 lesser daemons)
Concerning the name of my army, I finally think that I will change it one more time, but I hope this time it will be definitely. What do you think of "the Lost Legion"?
19931
Post by: BLACKHAND
Love the daemons, great choice for the head swap
I am liking the colour scheme more and more just the right balance between purple and blue (unless thats the pics?)
And as for the name,in my opinion its the hardest thing to choose with a homebrew chapter and changing it a hundred times till you find the right one is perfectly acceptable.
Having said that the "Lost Legion" is very cool

Thank you man! It's quite easy to get this colour effect even with my poor painting skills (no it's not the pic ).
here's how I make it:
1) a Liche Purple wash over black undercoat
2)Drybrushing with Necron Abyss
3) a Liche purple/warlock purple wash (lighter than the first one)
4) A little warlock purple to highlight

Sounds like a good idea, but where could I find informations about these legions, lexicanicum? If you've got something about them, I'd be interested!

That's the point there is nothing written about them. Some of the fluff guru's maybe able to point to a few hints but almost nothing is known of them. It really does give you carte blanche when creating your legion's identity.

As for the name, stay with The Lost. It's simple, but effective. Don't throw something else into the name for the sake of making it longer. If you want to stay with the Lost Prophets, do so, because I didn't know they were a band either, and the name sounds great to me.

By the way, I've uploaded some pics of my dread:

I was thinking of adding a plasticard circle at the top of the fins, surrounding the tower, but I have 2 different ideas about the way I could do it. I'll try to post pics of both possibilities soon.
If any of you have ideas for the silver tower I'd be glad to read it!

The idea is to build some sort of "crown" surrounding the toxer. It could be a flaming halo of some kind, or a ring with pink /blue horrors dancing or running on.
What do you think? which way should I build it?

I think that the second idea would be better, it would make it look more like a tower if it had 'battlements'. Great work so far!

Well guys, you all seem quite unanimous!
I'll try to get some plastic horrors and work on the ring design soon.
Something incredible happened last week-end: I've been painting!!! Even more incredible: one of my models is not a WIP anymore!!!
One of my lords is now fully done and varnished and the Lost Hunters have received some more colors. The Lost Angels are nearly done too (just some details on the weapons to finish).
Here are some pics:
The lord
The Lost Hunters (still a little WIP)
^This one suffered from the black base coat which melted the plastic (It was the first an last time I've used this can, I don't remember the brand but I was sure it was supposed to work for plastic models)

Nothing new about The Lost or the silver tower, but I thought I could show you some models I'm working on to use with my CSM armies (Death Guard, World Eaters and The Lost).

Ok, then I will update this blog with more than just The Lost. Aside from this legion, I'm working on my 1500 pts world eaters army for the French Throne of Skulls on May 2011.
You've already seen some pis of the defiler, now here are some pics of the possesed I've been making last week:
The heads need GS (they have been resized since the cranium length was ridiculously long -if they were supposed to have heads shaped like this, they couldn't move because the spikes on the backpacks would block them! ) and I will have to sculpt their necks.
I've also finished to paint the Lost Hunters. The whole squadron is done at last!
Now, here's the big chunk: I've started my Pendulum of Chaos!
I will convert the Rat ogre to a Chaos spawn and the plague monks to faceless servants, but I still don't know which solution I will use to hold the pendulum. (or perhaps I will make two magnetic swapable versions)
Now here's a first building test:
I'm not sure of the height of this test. Should I cut all the lower part of the wooden chassie or not?And if I do so, where exactly should I cut?
What do you think?

Post by: Lennysmash
I've think you should keep it as it is, the contrast between two building materials is great and really shows a lot of chaos' ramshackle nature.

I say remove all the wood, it wont last long in the warp *hint hint* but I also think it looks a bit out of place on chaos stuff.

Very nice! I never really liked the Lord model too much (always seemed too boxy, like he had no range of motion) but you really make it work for you. That sword especially is great looking; I am thinking of doing a similar thing for the ensorcelled weapons on my chaos knights, and if so I will be coming back here for reference
I also really like the look of that pendulum. Some metal plates on the wood might not be remiss though.

Thank you guys for your comments and suggestions!
I think I'll go with Wehrkind's idea and add some metal plates on the chassie. (It would be far too much work to remove all the wood and I'm not sure of what would remain of the model if I did so)
@ Cardinal Xaphan: Thanks! For the defiler the torso was the only difficult part (not the building itself, but the cable and GSing). If your interested in making such a model, go check Lemmingspawn's article about the Ripley Pattern Defiler ( http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/211345.page#286949 ).
Bringing the pendulum to that stage was a child's play but I'm still at the first steps of the conversion and I think it's going to get more complicated when I will start to use plasticard...
@Wehrkind: Thank you! For the sword I used a simplified version of the power sword painting tuto from Sons of Orar ( http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/301897.page ). If you need close-ups of the sword, just PM me .
About The Lost, I've been working on the possesed and termies yesterday, there is still a lot to do but at least I do it (at last).about my other armies I've ordered an AOBR dread to build a new Death Guard dread the same way I made my World Eater dread (my pride! )
Please keep commenting, every suggestion about my WIPs is welcome!!!(in fact I need sugestions! I'm working on so many different things that I can't focus on the details for each one so please, help me!)

Post by: Dronze
Looking at the build for the pendulum, I gotta say, it may take a bit of effort, but with a bit of GS and a few simple techniques, I think you could get it to blend quite nicely without having to lose the wood... and really, as it stands, without much change, I gotta say, the paintjob would really be the only make-or-break for that particular project.

Mmm, dancing in flames would be good. Just generally cavorting around enjoying the mayhem caused by the Almighty Tzeentch!!

Dronze wrote:the paintjob would really be the only make-or-break for that particular project.
You're right, it might be the hardest part of the project, but I'm not in a hurry so I will probably take my time for the paintjob, posting regular progress and asking for painting advices.
@Vitruvian XVII: NOw I have to find a good (and not too expensive) way to make flames!
15358
Post by: Vitruvian XVII
Hmm, yeah they can prove quite tricky. Hard to sculpt from GS, maybe armorcast has some bits?? Or maybe you could just put them in smoke, the kind you do for explosions??
20018
Post by: Hyenajoe
Well Armorcast doesn't have the kind of flames I'm looking for, and I will probably have to make them myself with glue or GS, but if you or anybody find some good flames bits I'd be really interested (I'm getting lazy these times ).
Concerning smoke, I'm affraid it would take too much place on the ring.

I like the new Pink Horrors, especially since they're all plastic!!!
I'm really fond of the Berzerk Dread, though I'm not too keen on Khornate troops usually... But you did well in re-shaping the AoBR one!!!
As for the Pendulum of Chaos, I really like the concept... But I agree it quite looks like "a Plague furnace resting on top of Defiler legs". As I'm more attracted towards Nurgle, I'd suggest you could greenstuff some organic matter between the legs & wooden parts, but I'm not sure it would be nicely integrated with your "quite-clean" CSMs...
Another option coming to mind would be to add some sort of "claws" coming upwards from the leg & clasping the pendulum part in their grip, as if the Daemon inside the machine legs had "stolen" his prey... If you don't see what I mean, think of the VC Corpse Cart...
Thanks for the nice comments on my Plog & keep up posting your awesome stuff!

@Pennywise: Thanks! To see it finished, just wait 'til Christmas!
@Yggdrasil: Thanks for your comments! You've pointed the exact problem I have with the pendulum: it looks too much like a plague furnace just laid on legs. That's why I will add some more metal plates and -as you suggested- some organic elements on it. I have no specific affiliation in mind for the pendulum (even if it would look great among my Death Guard army for Apoc games), I just want it to be as chaotic as possible. Your idea of claws is very interesting and I should keep it in mind for another project, because, unfortunately, I won't be able to do this on the pendulum. (but crossing the Corpse Cart with a defiler...hummmm you shouldn't give me such ideas! My wife will hate you!!! )
I am currently toying with the idea of using the pendulum in Apoc games as a moving daemonic rift using the scattering dices to define which direction it would move each turn, and summoning a random number of daemons (randomly chosen).
What do you think?

Hi everyone!
I had some free time last week-end (at last!) so I worked on both Khorne Possesed and the Silver Tower.
The possesed are now complete (or nearly complete since one of them still waits for a victim's head to raise in the name of Khorne )
Her's what they look like:
(this one will receive a victim's head )
About the Silver Tower, I've started the ring. For now it's a circle with eight arrows and pink horros cavorting on. I will soon add flames on it.
While I was cuting plastic card and making varios attempts at positioning it, it apprears that my first idea ( to glue it at the top of the fins) was completely wrong for 2 reasons:
1st: one of the fin is misplaced. It's lower and closer to the tower itself than the others, the circle wouldn't be supported by the five and it would look weird (not the 'good' weird alas).
2nd: It would give the whole structure a rather squat aspect which is absolutely not wanted.
So I thought of a way to place it higher on the tower, floating at the level of the grey plastic part, but I havent yet found how I should proceed, so every idea is welcome!
Here are some pics of the ring:
What dou you think?

Let me guess: the mold lines on the horns? (I've just realised I haven't filed them after reading your post ). And they are five because...errrrr....wellll.....Three of them died during their transformation?
Please guys, keep giving me ideas for the floating ring!

I know this has been said before but I feel it's worth repeating. Those thirster possessed are awesome! (Please don't tell my noise marines that I said that...) Seeing that shuriken catapult in the nugle lords hand brings me back to the dawn of my war gamming. When I was thirteen I modeled my Space wolf commander to carry a shuriken catapult because with that beard and all the wolf pelts he looked like a hunter/trapper so I figured he would want trophies. At the time I didn't realize that this works with the fluff about as well as a Necron lord singing making Christmas like Jack skelington.

I got an idea of how you can connect the floating ring. You can atach it with some wire and then sculpt fire around that so it still looks like it's flying, then more fire around the whole ring will furter strengthen the image of it floating, at least that's what I think.
17710
Post by: Yggdrasil
That idea of Tzeentchian fire came to me as well, but I saw two issues :
1. Sculpting flames is far from easy, especially given the size required to encompass this mammoth;
2. I don't see any good reason to have some flames sprouting from the tower & engulfing the ring.
Still, you're right Rose_Mountainz, we're all here to brainstorm & share our thoughts, so we shouldn't practice self-censorship...
So, who's in for Rose_Mountainz' flames? Anyone has an idea?

I have some experience when sculpting flames, first cover what's going to be flames with greenstuff then let it dry a litte. Then you use a needle o some sort and then poke the greenstuff, when you then pull out you can drage it and shape it. But yeah as you say Yggdrasil, it will prob be hard cause of the big amount of greenstuff it will take to do it!
Otherwise you could build some sort of supporting arches under it coming out of the tower, see pic: Yellow thing: circle Black:tower and suporting arch Pink:horror orange:gargoyle. I'm thinking that you have the arch under each arrow from the chaos star, maybe ad a gargoyle for some decoration.
STILL this is just me brainstorming because I have nothing better to do Feel free to be inspired by my rough tips and to the rest of you, come with some ideas! I'll stop now.. over and out.

My eyes are too old for this!
I was thinking about that ring a bit while at work, and I have two ideas:
1: Get some very thin fishing line and put a few lines between the ring and the tower. If you make it very tight so that it is horizontal it will be essentially invisible since the little reflected light won't be clear. If you make it loose so that the ring hangs from it the lines will be slightly more visible, but you will be able to hang it and take it apart for travel.
2: Get some clear plexiglass (or similar rigid and clear plastic) and cut that into "POWER WAVE" shapes (I am thinking plasma sphere lightning bolts) the start at the tower and go out to the ring. Make a handful of them and they will support the ring. Don't spray prime them, but rather paint them with water colors or thinned acrylics such that they are still semi-transparent but are colored like multi-hued lightning bolts. Example:
The advantage these ideas have over gargoyles or other sorts of buttresses is that you can have the ring be off at an angle so that it looks like it revolves around randomly. (with the wire/line idea you could even have a motorized revolving part that slowly spins the ring, which would be awesome )

I will try some paint on clear plastic sheets to see if I can do something nice. If it doesn't work I will go for the gargoyles solution

Hi everyone!
I'm back on dakka after some fine holidays with my family, building a game table and an ork army with my nephew (and resting near the fireplace after eating my mom's food ).
I've also got my last bits order (including an AOBR dread) so I spent some time working on my Death Guard dreadnought which is now fully converted and waiting for a black undercoat.
I've used metal Chaos dread weapons (I had some spares from a weight sale), plasticard, GS, chaos termie/lord termie bits, parchment, bones and skulls from WHFB terrain sprue.
I hope he will look as good as his Khornate elder brother:
I hope you'll like it! (and I hope no one noticed I haven't been working on the silver tower for weeks )

Now this little bugger needs a name. Any Idea?
I'm planning to make a dread for every chaos god. The Slaaneshi one will be next since I'm currently gathering bits and weapons to build a small Emperor's Children army.
On that last point I'm looking for heads to use with my noise marines, any idea if the new DE reaver jetbike pilot head (the faceless one) would be proportionate with a CSM body?

20018
Post by: Hyenajoe
Thank you guys! I can't say it was a difficult conversion, and so I feared it could look lame compared with the Khornate Dread on which I spent far more time just converting it.
@Wehrkind: I primed it yesterday, so it will probably be fully painted within the next two weeks. Brother Stinky is not bad and he will probably get called something like that anyway
@Yggdrasil: Thanks, but I must be honest, the Khornate Dread is not a converted AoBR Dread, just a classic SM Dread
@Tipios: Thanks, I'll surely take a closer look at your Chaos Dread for my next ones! (I will probably steal your idea for my Tzeentchian Dread's lascannon).
Yesterday I've finally decided myself to grab my paint and to work on the Lost Champions (my termy squad), now all the gold's done and I will try to finish the whole squad this week end.
Concerning the Emperor's Children I'm preparing, any idea of the heads I could use with them? (I really hate the CSMs heads and I'd like to find something more esthetic)

Ooops, my mistake... Still great anyway uh
As for the heads... I pretty much don't know, but I've been thinking of using the Sanguinary Guards legs & torsos for Slaaneshi CSM... They look finely chiseled, with a lot of textures & yummy adbominal muscles !!! Well, hum, you get my point.

Rhoooooo!!!! Petit canaillou, và!
I agree they'd make some fine chosen ones, but I wouldn't use them for Noise marines ( the sonic weapons are too big, they nearly hide the whole torso, you'd agree it would be spoiling fine bits ). I'll try to grab a reaver's pilot head in a GW store to check if they're the right size. The other option would be to sculpt new heads and to cast them...

I really like the conversion work on your Nurgle Dreadnought. I painted mine up recently but it was a blindingly fast "I need to do this right now because I need to field this tomorrow night" sort of thing so it is 100% stock (except the missile launcher I stole from an old Dark Angels Dreadnought) and it is ridiculously clean for Nurgle Dread. It is on my list of models I am going to revisit *very* soon because I am finishing every model I have in my Death Guard force and have only a handful left. Once they are flocked I'm going to tear back into that Dread and subject it to the horrors of the Warp. I haven't played with GS in a long time so I'm a bit apprehensive but I have a lot of recent examples of what to (and not to) do from Dakka. I am looking forward to it. Also looking forward to seeing more progress on this thread, I'll be back.

It's been some time since my last post, and I hadn't much time for modelling, but it doesn't mean my projects are dead.
Unfortunately, when I finally managed to take some pics of my latest work, my home computer died in a sad bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep (and I can't upload anything from my job).
So no pics for some more weeks, but I thought I could give news about the ongoing projects.
Concerning The Lost, the whole terminators squad is nearly done, just some more washes and layers on details and it's going to be varnish time.
About the Silver Tower, I gave a try to Wehrkind's idea, but my airbrushing skills are not good enoug for it, the first try ended up in a crappy way. I've decided that I'd go for the flames and gargoyles, probably easier.
About the Emperor's Children, a cool redshirt in Paris gave me the DE reaver pilot head I was looking for to make fitting tests with the CSM bodies. It appears that these heads are a little thin compared with the bulky CSM armor (although they would look nice with some GS to enlarge the neck), but they are highly effective on the old Noise Marine bodies. I've also ordered the bits for the Daemon Prince I've got in mind and for the chosen ones and dreadnought as well. All the sonic weapons and shoulder pads are ready and waiting to be assembled.
Some more bits for the Pendulum arrived recently and a new project is on its way (thanks to Yggdrasil): the Corpse Grinder
I'll try to post some pics as soon as possible (even if I don't know when...).
A la prochaine!

Corpse Grinder? Why would I be responsible for a thing that seems so creepy & awful & ...
Erh...
What would it be, by the way? I want to know!!!
20018
Post by: Hyenajoe
It's going to be a mix of a defiler and a VC corpse cart... The suggestion you made about the Pendulum just turned to a new project. Thanks by the way
I will build a defiler hull (with legs and claws) and add to it a daemonic face (the one from the defiler's turret) with chainsaw teeth. On top of this will be a pile of bodies and the corpse cart driver.
What do you think?

Post by: blambi
Sounds quite interesting, but for something demonic, what purpose does the driver have?
Is it trying to keep the bigger monster in check?

Yep! Orientating it with a juicy piece of corpse!

You should try and take a look at tinfoil's awesome Daemonic army , nearly at the bottom, he has built a Soulgrinder that could match your description of the Corpse Grinder...
So it can only be a good idea!!

Post by: Hyenajoe
The Altar of Souls...I'm a big fan of this model, The GSing is purely awesome.
I'm a regular reader of Tinfoil's thread abouthis Harrowed army, and, to be honnest, the way he builds daemonic models without falling into the classic gods-themed is very inspirational. Chaos doesn't belong to four gods, it has an essence of its own and that's what Tinfoil's modeling job is all about in my opinion.
Now, back to the Corpse Grinder, I think that mixing medieval, sci-fi and classic horror is a good way to bring a chaotic mood around a model, so I'm inclined to think it's a good idea too!

Here is a great example of a mix of medieval and sci fi styles from a member of my local club http://whangareiwargaming.org/forum/download/file.php?id=8&sid=bcb94731ba0c7f860a342cfd0f2e2cac I'm really not looking forward to facing it on the table, the same guy has used the jaws from fish and cat skulls on his defilers and they look truly terrifying. . more pics here http://whangareiwargaming.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=87

Hi everyone!
Sorry, bu I still have no pics to show( I'll try to upload some from another computer during holidays).
Yet, I've made great progresses in the development of The Lost: a Legion symbol and a motto!
While painting the Terminators, I've decided tio give a try at customizing some CSM decals to represent a blindfolded skull in a red hood, and the result is quite good to me (it needs some improvements but its a good start.) I'll ask a friend of mine to draw a full transfer sheet on computer to allow me to make custom decals of this symbol.
The motto is: "Liberate me a Empyrean". It might not seem very original (I'm not the only fan of 'Event Horizon') but it fits the fluff I'm thinking about for them.
Here's the main elements of the fluff I'm writing for the Lost (I took Lennysmash's idea of using one of the two legions who had their records expunged before the Horus Heresy).
During the early days of the crusade, when the Emperor himself walked among the mortals, His mighty legions spread across the stars to bring the Imperium to the barbarians. The Second legion of space marines was accomplishing its duty as any other legion when they discovered a strange world where the laws of physics seemed different and whose inhabitants appeared to be living according to mad laws. There was no authority to overthrow, there was no tactical sites to conquer, and the population couldn't even understand the concept of Imperium. The war was long, too long in fact to be real...when the primarch and his generals realised the truth, it was too late. They had left reality and stepped to another dimension, the Warp, and the world they were trying to conquer was nothing more than an illusion. Then the real master of this kingdom revealed himself and cursed the legion. They were condemned to fade to darkness and progressively forget who they were, unless they found someone who could tell their name. An easy task, if they had not disappeared of reality for centuries, leaving the entity enough time to use its power to erase every memories and records concerning the legion from the whole reality... or at least nearly every memories...Now, the legion is lost, they don't know who they are, where to go. They seek hints of their identity, fighting every battle that can lead them to evidences...
When it will be finished (I mean fully redacted and translated) I will make an article about the Lost, with pictures, full fluff, converting tutos and (if possible) a pintable transfer sheet.
Concerning my other projects, I'll try to work on my Emperor's children during holidays (I have to make a miliputpress mold for the GS i plan to ad to the legs)
I'll try to post pics in a few days, and if I can't connect until next week: Merry Christmas everyone (or Merry Hanoukka, but it's a little late I guess).
A la prochaine!

Erh... I'm always a bit reluctant when it comes to the two lost legions, for I think they should remain lost (but not forgotten).
Moreover, it seems GW wants to progressively hint at them in its most recent BL books ("The First Heretic" & "The Dark King & Lightning Tower"), so I'd be very cautious with that perilous way... But it's brave of you!!!
Nevertheless, I'm really fond of the idea of that lost "chapter" in the Warp, trying to find its memory back... That's quite tragic, and has a lot of "grimdark" feel to it!!! And it can lead to interesting plots : hunts for an Eldar Farseer who had some visions about them (fraying with Xenos!!!), endless quests in forsaken Imperial archives (Heretics!!!), or allying with a daemon rival to the one that cursed them, in the vain hope of twisting the spell on them (Corruption awaits!!!)...
As for the blindfolded skull, it looks promising...
Regarding the motto, I'm not too sure (and I have never watched Event Horizon)... What is intended with it?
Joyeux Noël!!

I cant understand that, I'm usually quite reluctant myself to use big official fluff elements when working on a background or a RPG scenario.

I didn't know that. I should probably take a look at those.

Thanks! I originally thought of using Malal as the origin of the curse, but I wasn't sure.
Yggdrasil wrote:As for the blindfolded skull, it looks promising...
I've asked an infographist friend of mine to work on it, but I don't know if she'll get time for that.
Yggdrasil wrote:Regarding the motto, I'm not too sure (and I have never watched Event Horizon)... What is intended with it?
It's a great horror movie, you should watch it! Let's just say that you'll understand better what's dangerous when travelling through the warp
@ Blackhand: I like the stuff your local gamer made, I'm not the only one who have something for Big models.
Now some news:
I FINALLY GOT MY F G BITS ORDER!!! After a month and a half, I got it yesterday!
Now I have everything I need to build the Corpse Grinder, a Slaanesh Daemon prince (Naga style), A Emp Kids dread , A 1k sons dread, and 5 Emp Kids chosen (with sanguinary guards full of muscle torsos...), but more important: I'll have time to work on all these conversions! (my wife will ba at work, my daughter will be at her nanny, and I'll be on holidays for 2 days!!! )
I just don't know what to go with first (but the Slaaneshi dread and the prince are on top of the list).
Still no pics, but I'll try to use my parents PC to upload something ("Hi Mom, I brought you your granddaughter! Can you take her, I have something to do on your PC?").

The lost bitz order, is fitting for the lost
Dread dread dread first!
20018
Post by: Hyenajoe
Ok, I'll go for the dread first!
I've gathered enough bits to start working on the torso very quickly. I'll use an Ironclad torso and venerable legs (these bits were just cheaper). The sarcophagus will be built the same way as my other dreads, I'll use an old 2nd ed noise marine head and 2 doom sirens on the armor plates. I might use the DP exhausts instead of the defiler exhaust stacks I usually use but I'm still not 100% sure. I don't know if I'll go for some icon bending to fit the legs armor plates or if I'll try someting new (any idea is welcome). The arms are going to be (more or less) basic AOBR dread arms converted to sonic weapon and chaotic claw/fist.
What do you think?
About the Daemon Prince of Slaanesh, I'd like to introduce you to an old friend of mine: The Abberation Prime
To those who are not familiar to Rackham models it was the first plastic kit made by Rackham and represented a bigger version of the Abberation (a model sold with their Space Hulk-like game: Hybrid).
The most interresting point with this kit was that it came with many options (4 heads, 4 arms, 2 chests)
And guess what? It's nearly the same scale as GW's Daemon Prince! (its just far more detailed )
I'm also like BrassScorpion's Daemon Prince of Slaanesh (which reminds me of the old school Champion of slaanesh with a snake body):
His model was a great inspiration so his idea will be shamelessly stolen
I really hope to be able to post pics of my own work soon.

The DP exhausts is a good idea, I originally bought the DP exhausts for that purpose, but used them as sonic speakers on the top of my slaanesh instead. For the leg armor, you could try the arrows and trim like you used on your khorne chain fists.
The Abberation Prime model looks really nice, and all those spare parts you could use. Have you tried one of those heads on your dread?
Good luck!!

Post by: Yggdrasil
My hobby buddy had given me the left-overs from that Aberration kit, your idea is right on spot : I'll have to check if I can use those awesome parts on my new DP concept...
Thanks for the inspirations!
20018
Post by: Hyenajoe
@ azekio: Thanks man!
@ tipios: It appeared that the DP exhausts were too...organic! I'd better use them on a possessed dread or possessed vehicle of some kind. As for the Abby Prime parts, they're a little over-sized for a dread. About the leg armor, I went exactly that way as you'll see it
@ Yggdrasil: If you have some left-overs from the Abberation kit, use them! they're exactly the right scale (I've checked). The only problem I've seen is that they are far more detailed than the GW plastic parts! You'll have to work on your GW bits to get an harmonised model. Otherwise, It's really good stuff, and I have a lot of things in mind for my DP.
I've been busy during my three days holidays, and between a nap and a new home made cheese-burger recipe experimentation, I've spend a lot of time working on my EC sonic dread.
As I'm working with the cheapest bits I can get, I've used an Ironclad torso, Venerable legs, and AOBR arms. (plus a variety of chaotic bits including most of my chaos icons )
Here are some wip pics from Friday. As I had time to work on it yesterday, consider that the dread is now almost complete and waiting to be primed.
1) the legs armor plates:
This was the basic look of the armor plates. They now have received moar arrows (grouped by 2 or 3) on each plate side .
2) the sonic blaster arm:
An AOBR multi-melta arm. The whole sonic blaster is now fully done, using plastic rods and thin plastic card, and using this:
This was about to become the mouth of the blaster (thank you tipios, your work on the doom siren was the initial inspiration for this one).It has been green stuffed and bent to look exactly like a sonic blaster mouth.
I hope i will soon be able to post some more pics of the whole blaster (I'm very proud of this one)
3) the CCW:
There again, it was tipios' nurgle dread claw that made me think of using tyranids scyting talons on the ccw.
Otherwise, it's very close to my Khorne dread's chainfist. I has also received more arrows and symbol now.
4) the torso:
Nothing special here. It was built exactly the same way as my other dreadnoughts, I have just changed the theme. I've added a CSM slaanesh icon, arrows on the top plates, and a 2nd ed noice marine head (you'll like it )
I' will paint it with a pink/purple and gold scheme. How do you think I should prime it?
And now, something I made with some extra GS and an old backpack exhaust, for a noise marine test.:
What do you thinks guys?

Wow. Really nice work. I love the way your conversions deepen the textures of the model. And of course, the craftsmanship is superb.
I particularly admire the way you slashed the mouth of the doom siren. Such a simple touch, but it works wonders. The GW version always looked too cartoony to me. You make it look truly sinister.
edited for clarity: "blaster" = doom siren

Post by: tipios
Yes yes yes. Another way to use the doom siren, great job taking the horns off and cutting it into a triangle is a great idea.. I was stuck on what to do with my khorne upper arms, but now I know also i'm gona have to do the same with the leg plates. Thanks for the update, I can't wait to get home and try some stuff out.
Oh and the green stuff face on the marine is perfect too more pics more pics more pics!!!!

@ tipios: I'm glad you like it! I had this in mind since I first saw your job with the Tzeentch dread lascannon. Be carefull if you want to make a doom siren this way, the cables on each side of the siren broke when I bent the edges to fit the triangle shape.
@ tinfoil: I must say I didn't expect such a kind comment! Thanks man!
I really hope you'll like the finished model (and I hope I'll be able to post more pics soon).

The Sonic Dread is now done and has received a white undercoat!
I first thought I would try NMM on it but I'd probably screw it, so I'll go for metallic paints and washes. Any suggestions?
I've finally got the first half of the Micro Art Studio bases I'm going to use for my whole Slaaneshi army,
(mine are 25mm)
Since the Noise marines are not ready (still a lot of GSing to do!) I'll use a part of these on my daemonettes.
I'll paint the Daemonettes with a white/greyish skin and hairs, with red or purple eyes. I think I'll paint the cloth red and gold for the metal.
What do you think?

Post by: Yggdrasil
For NMM on the dread, I agree it's a bit bold for a first time... You should try it first on a smaller mini, before going to a large one. And it's really time-consuming, so it'd be a bit ambitious IMHO.
The scheme for the Daemonette looks nice, but I'd have to see a test mini before having some suggestions... I'm not really good at imagining painted minis after just words...

Great models Yggdrasil
The purple looks fantastic, I want to pant my sonic dread this colour.
Hyena joe those bases look really cool, can you get one for your dread? Can't wait to see the dread finished, would you go with purple for your dread?

Post by: Yggdrasil
Thanks tipios...
And yeah, a large base would fit the Dread well!
20018
Post by: Hyenajoe
The Dread's base is painted and ready. I just went for a more "fleshy" color for the skin on the base.
@Yggs: your daemonettes are really nice looking. I'll try to paint a test model to show you what I have in mind (and to see if I can make it as I haven't done any white skinned model for at least 5 years).
@Tipios: thanks. I think I'll paint my dread with a mix of warolck purple and tentacle pink (I want my Emperor's Children to look different from The Lost)
I still don't know what to do for the Emp Kids heads... I've tried to work on plastic CSMs head, but it's difficult to give them any elegance, and no masked DE reaver heads available on the bitzshops... Wehrkind's idea of tentacles sounds appealing, but I still don't know how to make it.
Any idea, suggestion, drawing is welcome!

Thanks you for this suggestion! By the way, I have received the sanguinary guard torsos I'm going to use for the chosen ones with lightning claws.
Once the Dread and the Daemonettes will be done, I'll spend more time on the marines.
Any other suggestion?

Post by: Yggdrasil
No suggestions, but a question : where can you find some nice Lightning Claws?
To me, the former ones with open fists were better than the new ones with clenched fists, and their bent shape made them more feral & savage than the new straight, clean ones.
The only ones I really like are the CSM Terminator Lord's & the Raptors Champion's, but they are terminator-sized and metal, respectively, which has had me wonder about a solution for those...
So I'd gladly welcome any help!

I was looking for ideas for heads for a raptor squad, and came across this http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...etTutorial.jpg. Although this a grey night idea, maybe you could try something a little different.
20018
Post by: Hyenajoe
@ Yggdrasil: You're right, lightning claws are a difficult point and the latest version looks lame . Talon-like fingers would be awesome, but appart from stealing them from the necron flayed ones (an expensive but fine solution), it would be really hard to find an equivalence at the csm scale (you can try plastic card, but it will be a fragile and painfully time-eating solution).
The second solution would be to add Wolverine-like blades (old school Dark Eldar helmet and riffle blades would be just fine)
The third solution is the "genestealer claw option". It's a three "fingers" claw for genestealers, but the general idea is to reduce the number of fingers to create a deadly hand weapon (something you can easily do with CSM models, but not so easily with loyalist marines). I could mix CSM hands with daemonette claws to stick to the slaaneshi mood.
I'll try the second and third solutions, to see which one looks better.
@ tipios: Sorry man, the link directs me to the photobucket login page... I'm curious to see what you've found. Could you find another link?

This is the thread with the same link. http://www.heresy-online.net/forums/showthread.php?p=369661 hope that works. If this dosn't work I will have a go and post pictures. Thanks for the link!
I knew this tuto (I've used it for my nurgle dread's head), but it gives an idea, I'll try to do something similar with regular CSM heads, and see what I can make out of it (perhaps it's the first step to tentacles...).
So you're planning a raptor squad? It sounds interesting, tell me more!

After seeing your raptors with the wings, I wanted to try somthing like that. SoI got sanguinary guard jet packs, and am getting tyranids gargoyle wings to go with them. I want to make claws for the feet, I want one with power claws, and the other 4 will have chain swords and pistols. I'm using terminator heads because the eyes look more bird like, and sort of using that termi tut I want to GS teeth.

Sounds nice! Claw feet would be fine, do you already know how you're going to make it?
About the wings, MasterSlowPoke made this model some months ago:
If the sanguinary guards and plastic gargoyles had been released back when I made the Lost angels, I'd have gone this way too (it was so hard to get the ten winged backpacks!).
Don't you fear the terminator heads to be over-sized?

I was looking through the raptor gallery and saw that last night, really looks cool, and the wings look the part. For the claws I have been looking at birds of pray, and so I need 3 claws at the front and 1 at the back, I think genestealer hands might work, but have none ATM. The termi heads when cut right back are about the same size, trying a test one now to see. Wings are ordered, well I'm getting the whole brood from GW as a gift from the wife wooooo. Back to the dreads for now. Any news on your dread

Well, yesterday I took my afternoon to solve my PC problems (I should be able to post pics again quite soon) and to pay taxes. I was back home early so I started to paint the sonic dread (pink, gold and metal). I'm quite satisfied with it so far.
I'll not bold enough to try weathering on it, but some blood stains on the pink armor plates might be nice.
So you're wife's offering you models? You lucky ! Mine would never do that (she says it would be too easy and not personal enough).
I hope you'll soon post pics of these termies heads (I'm really curious to see it). Are you going to start a new thread for your CSM army?

Yey sonic dread, where did you get the head? not only will everybody hear him coming they, gona see him coming from a mile off I love the triangle doom siren totaly awsome. Have you got any chaos vehicle chains to go on the underneath of the blastmaster, I think that will make it even cooler.
The terminators are really good too, I love the purple.
I'm glad you got your pc back up and running, and good luck finishing off the dread, have you got enough pink? lol!

@Yggdrasil: Thanks! Yes, I've used an airbrush on the rhino. It was hazardous, but I'm fine with he result. What do you mean by "I was expecting something far whorse than that"? Do you think it's not pink enough?
@ tipios: I'll look at what it'd look like with chains, and try to post pics of it.
I'll try to finish the legs and arms this week-end (it needs washes).

Some fresh news! I've done a test model for my daemonettes, and the sonic dread is on a good way.
Here's a WIP of the CCW arm:
I'm going to wash every surfaces and do some highlights.
Do you think I should paint energy crackling on the claws?
And a pic of the back:
And here's the Daemonette:
What do you think? Should I paint the claws purple or red? Or leave it white?

Post by: Yggdrasil
Progress looks good on the Dread!
I'd say go with the crackling energy 1. only if you can pull it out neatly and 2. only if you find a colour that won't mess up with the rest!
As for the daemonette, it looks great!!! Well in line with the dread colours.
As for the claws, I think they'd deserve a bit of colour... Maybe darken only the "nails" in themselves but leave the skin parts whit-ish?
33159

The crackling looks good on your termi, so go for it
The dread claw looks nicer everytime I see it. I need to do something more like this on my Slaanesh.
I like the daemonette too, can you blend purple into the white? How did you do the gold?
Keep up the good work!

As for the claws, I think they'd deserve a bit of colour... Maybe darken only the "nails" in themselves but leave the skin parts whit-ish?
Thanks Yggdrasil, I'll give a try to the claws as you suggest it
tipios wrote:The crackling looks good on your termi, so go for it
The dread claw looks nicer everytime I see it. I need to do something more like this on my Slaanesh.
I like the daemonette too, can you blend purple into the white? How did you do the gold?
Keep up the good work!
Thanks Tipios.
If I paint the claws purple or red, I'd do it with an aibrush so it would blend quite nicely.
For the gold, I went for a Glorious gold (from Games colors) then a gryphonne sepia wash, then progessive highlights, first with glorious gold then with a mix of burnished gold and mithril silver.

Yes the blast master does look good both ways but when it is attached to the finished dread the chains will look better. Maybe wait until all finished and see how it looks when the dread is standing, then decide. Painting is coming onnicely, the pink and black contrast is nice.

You're right, I'l keep and paint the chains appart then, when the Dread will be done I'l see what it looks like.
I hope to finish the dread within the next two weeks, after what ill paint my 19 other Daemonettes. I'm trying to focus on one thing at a time, and to finish what I start.

Time to post some news!
@ tipios: I've found the perfect chains for my dread in the Dark Eldar ravager kit (I should get them during th next ten days)
I was optimistic to think the dread would be done by now... I had not much tiime to get my paint box out, but instead I took my converting tools and worked on three things.
1st: The Pendullum of Chaos
The screaming bell chassis has been reduced and I'm adapting it to the Soul grinder hull. It still needs metal plates but it's a start. The rat ogre is turning to a chaos spawn and will receive some GS to erase the skaven mark and to add hair.
2nd: the first Slaaneshi Daemon Prince using Abberation Prime bits:
It will receive a trygon tail (like Brass Scorpion's DP) But Instead of wings I'll give him trophies racks or exhausts.
What do you guys think is better?
3rd: the second DP using Abberation Prime Bits:
This one will receive wings and AP legs and arms. This head has scything mandibles but I'm not sure of which direction I should put it:
like this?
or like this?
I'm currently working on adapting the AP arms to the DP torso.
What do you think ?

lots of cool , stuff , i didnt realise you had a blog for your army, will check it out asap. as for the madibles its a tricky one both look cool actually , but i think the higher one above the jaw looks more threatening, also looks a little like preadator and alien combined!

Post by: tipios
Hyena, the The Pendullum of Chaos really looks nice.
The Abberation Prime heads are awsome on a DP.
I would go with trophy racks on the first one, and the second mandibles position looks better to me.
I'm looking forward to seeing progress on these
I have the sames problem as you, when I sit down to paint, I just want to build instead lol!

Great conversions. Those heads are perfect on the DPs. I think the mandibles look better up, more like they would pull you in further, should you be foolish enough to get close to it's mouth.

Thank you for your comments!
So there are two votes for the mandibles up and one for the mandibles down. Keep telling me what you think on this point.
Tell me about the back of the 1st prince, Trophies or exhausts? Tipios suggest the trophies, there again, keep telling me your opinion.
I really need feedback on these points.

Trophies look far better imo.
Mandibles down has it for me as well.

Post by: Hyenajoe
Well, it's 2 for the mandible up and 2 for the mandibles down, the vote is still open
Here's a pic of the first prince test building:
I've converted a handless AP arm and added a 40k hand with daemon sword to it (it needs GS of course but it give a good idea of what it'd look like once finished):
I've not yet decided how I should put the left arm in position:
Up?
Or down?
What do you think?

I love where you're taking the Prince (and I think I like the arm up, myself). Great ideas in this one -- it's looking truly sick and twisted, and entirely daemonic.

I second the arm up, ready for slicing also this DP is looking really nice already. Nice job!
I've changed my mind on the scything mandibles head, and now prefer the 1st pic

Thak you guys!
I'll try to work a little the DPs every day, and to post pics regularly. Since I've got nothing on schedule for this week-end, I might have the time to make a GSing session to finish the DPs modelling.
I might also try to finish the Sonic Dreadnought and -why not- work on the daemonnettes... (or am I too optimistic again? )
So now there are three trophies rack and no exhausts, so I'll go for the trophies.

Not much time, but votes are :
- trophy racks ;
- mandibles upwards (2nd option) ;
- left arm up.
Awesome DPs, I had planned to try the Aberration heads on River Troll bodies actually!!!

Thanks Yggs!
Following the general opinion, the first prince will have a trophy rack and a raised left arm.
About the second prince's mandible it's 2 votes for the 1st proposition (mandibles up) and 4 votes for the second one (mandibles down), but the vote is still open!
I'll post new pics soon of both princes soon.

Now comes the problem of the shoulder pads as I mentioned earlier. How should I position it? Any idea on this point is welcome.
2nd prince :

Post by: Antebellum
I find that shoulder pads work nicely to bulk out the upper body of things. Marines look weird and scrawny without them, but putting them on makes them look bulky and imposing. I think it might work the same with this.
On the other hand, with the lithe snake-like body, I think shoulder pads might be too bulky. I vote no for shoulder pads on the first one, but I do think you need something to transition between the armored chest and the unarmored arms.
33159
Post by: tipios
Looking good.
The arms and legs look so more daemonic than the originals. Shoulder pads might make it easier, because you wont have to do somuch GS on the joints. You know what I'm gona say, "can we have some pics so we can decide"

tipios wrote: You know what I'm gona say, "can we have some pics so we can decide"
You'll soon get pics! In fact there are three options for the snake prince:
- DP shoulder pads
- DP arm brace (I happen to have two of these)
- nothing but green stuffed junctions
I'll try to show you the first two today.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I've found a fourth option for the snake DP shoulder pads: using the legs plates from the DP kit.
@ tipios, I've found an interesting use for the DP arm brace/plate, and I think you might be interested in getting one or two.
Pics will follow. Automatically Appended Next Post: Here are the pics.
First the snake prince with three shoulder pads options (not including the bare GSed shoulders option)
1) DP shoulder pads:
the problem being too much to fill:
2) the DP arm brace/plate (I don't know how to call this bit), which appear to be quite nice:
3) the DP leg plates (not bad either):
What do you think?
As I mentioned it I've also found another use for the DP arm plate/brace/stuff, which might interest those of use who get an interest in making chaos dreadnoughts:
I'll probably use on of those for my next Thousand Sons dread (when its time will come )
I've also made a test positioning for the winged prince:
I'm not satisfied with it (I think it would look better if it was crouching a little more). I'll make a special scenic base of ruins for it (perhaps it'll look better once in situation).
That's all for today folks!

That DP looks amazing. What about trying to perch the winged DP on some ruins to help with the crouching stance, like he has just landed or is about to take off again?
10701
Post by: Antebellum
The DP shoulder pads make him look like he has no shoulders. I like the second ones as well. Add a little bulk and make it so it doesn't look like he has a sleeveless power armor chest plate
The second picture of the DP is much better than the first. Though when I originally saw the first, I envisioned it holding onto the wall of a ruins with one hand and one leg. Similar to something you might see spider-man doing. Ready to push off with both feet and take flight.
20018
Post by: Hyenajoe
Thanks you guys!
@killmaimburn & Antebellum : that's exactly what I have in mind. But to make this base, I have to define a final position first (actually the legs shape puts some limits to it), and then build adapted ruins. It might take some time but the result should be worth the efforts.
Every idea , comment or critic is welcome!

Post by: tipios
I think if you want him up a wall your gona have to cut the feet and change their angle. I like the pose now, it looks like he's looking for someone who's hiding in the ruins I'm also liking the head without his extra spiky bits, maybe you could leave them off?

tipios wrote: I think if you want him up a wall your gona have to cut the feet and change their angle. I like the pose now, it looks like he's looking for someone who's hiding in the ruins
You're probably right. I don't want him especially up a wall, but rather on non-flat ruins so I guess I could manage to find an in between solution .
tipios wrote: I'm also liking the head without his extra spiky bits, maybe you could leave them off?
Sure I could, some GS to fill the holes and it would be done, but...scything mandibles...it's so hard to resist
I'm currently thinking of getting another Abberation prime kit (I still have 2 other alternative heads and enough GW bits to make a third DP) but I can't resolve myself to say "that's enough".
I hope I'll be able to work on my models this week-end, but this last week has been quite exhausting and I fear to be unable to do something else than falling on the couch watching Doctor Who.
Just a question, back on the shoulder pads I'm not sure I have understood everyone's opinion is the best option n°2 or N°3?
I'll soon have to ask the same question for the winged prince, test pics will follow of course.

Against all expectations, I wasn't so lazy last week-end!
I haven't done anything new on the princes, but instead, I've tried to paint some models in order to finish them.
Here are the results:
1) Brother Bar'Brah, the Sonic Dreadnought (90% done)
There are still some details to be done, but I'm quite satisfied with it!

2) Brother Stinky, the Death Guard Dreadnought (early paint WIP)
He needs some yellowish effects and a good dirty wash.
I hope you'll like it!

Nurgle Dred is coming along nicely! I like your sonic dread a lot too. I think the inlay designs with the brighter pink look really good and very Slaaneshi (sp?). My only concern on the sonic dread is the base. Or rather, the pink on the base. I feel like it's too pink. I think adding some washes too it to darken it some would make the dread pop more. I just feel like all those pinks blend together, distracting from that sweet dred. Either way, they're looking good, Joe!

Thanks Tipios! I'm glad you like it! The pattern on the armour took about 1 hour for the whole model. I'm still waiting for my Dark Eldar chains and hooks to hang beneath the blaster (the wonders of intercontinental postage... )
On this point, my wife told me I should have used purple instead of a lighter pink.
Since I'm planning to do the same for most of my Emp Kids models I like to know what people think about it.
So, what do think?
33919
Post by: Moltar
No offense to your wife, but I respectfully disagree. I think the subtlety of the lighter pink is what helps make it looks more ornate. I feel like with purple you would get a bolder "look at this" thing going on similiar to that barbed vine thing Biel-Tan Eldar have all over their vehicles which, although doesn't look bad, it's not the same effect. I also think it would turn your awesome classic Emp Child stuff into more of a pansy pink and purple scheme. But that's just my opinion.

Post by: Yggdrasil
Agreed, the vines pattern on the Slaaneshi Dread is amazing. I'm pretty sure it would've taken me ages to reach that!

I'll post it in the PM Showcase too.

First, the winged prince assembled:
I'll add the mandibles later. I still have to work on its ass (no bad jokes meant here ) and on the base.
I have no good pics of the snake prince but they will follow soon (I've filled the gap between the tail and the torso)

@Wehrkind: Thanks for giving me the idea of the tentacled face man! I'm really glad you like the DP too.
@RSJake: Tipios is a hard worker, I'm too lazy to do half of the drilling and rod cutting job he does (not to mention his other modelling skills!). Are you working on a plastic dread too?
@Medabee: thanks man,I hope you'll like the next step.
I will now focus on the TS sorcerer dread. I have a dread force weapon from the furioso kit, and I'm planing to replace the blade part (not chaotic enough to me) by the extremity of one of the DP swords (I just don't know which one yet).
The armor plates on this dread are going to be a mix of arrows (as I did on the sonic dread) icons (classic icons the legs just like I did on all my other dreads, and the pink horrors icon on the top) and press molded eyes reproducing this:
(sorry I have no better pic for now)
I'll also use some good old plastic card of course.
The torso will be done following the same pattern as my other dreads, but this time I'll be using the terminator lord sorceror breastplate instead of a regular chaos termie bit. I'll probably use the tzeentch chosen head from the CSM squad kit, but I might be interested in using the Scibor "not thousand sons" bits:
Has anyone already used those?

Hi there!
As I've managed to get some time for modelling, here are some WIP pics of my noise marines.
First of all I'd like to mention that the idea of using the sonic blaster cannon face on the noise marines was shamelessly stolen on the army shown on GW's website a few weeks ago.
It needs some more GS to make a smooth junction, but what do you think so far?

Thanks guys, but to be fair, I didn't sculpt those, its just press molded and glued on the legs. I've made milliput molds last week using the sonic blaster shoulder pad and the canon's mouth. This way I was able to convert about ten noise marines today.
