WOO!!!! LOTS TO CELEBRATE IN THIS POST! 300TH POST ON THE BLOG, 11TH PAGE AND 10000 VIEWS ON THE BLOG! WOO!!
Thanks for the feedback skylifter. I appreciate your opinion, and personally think they look allright, but you may have noticed that i've stopped doing that (simply because I cant be bothered buying other boxes and I like the look of vanilla marines )
Anyway on to an update!
FOR THOSE WHO GUESSED TAU, YOU GUESSED RIGHT! I've decided to start a veeeeeeeeery small tau collection, that I may expand slowly over many years probably, but I love tau, so I decided, why not? So I purchased a crisis suit and box of fire warriors new in box off ebay for a mere $ 40 ish! The crisis suit arrived today, and I guess the fire warriors will arrive sometime this week. For those who still love my ultramarines, worry not! I've still been working on them and will certainly continuue, I have lots of work still to do and will no doubt be continueing to expand my force and time progresses, but just figured it'd be cool and handy to have a small force of painted tau to just be there and look cool, or to be used to dioramas etc. Anyway, on to the pics. I built the crisis suit, and that's as far as I got. I found 6 paintable minis from my previous tau collection, so my force (thus far) will consist of 18 fire warriors and a crisis suit.
Don't get me wrong, I really think your Ultras look awesome despite my criticism of those details. In fact, looking at them made me want to start an Ultramarine force.
Go, Go tau-er rangers!.... nice work dude, I may have some tau bits lying around my place and my mates place soooo can you PM me your address please and I'll send 'em to you soon! don't complain dude, I wouldn't ask if i didn't want to o.k! :-)
Haha thanks Damo, I feel I have to accept something We'll really work something out this time I've been painting the battlesuit and it's looking great so far but it certainly challenging my painting (and assembling for that matter) skills! Updates tomorrow!
Yeah dude we'll work something out but i can't send you anything without an address! :-) sooner i get one sooner you'll be getting some plastic crack dude!
Great work, nice kitbashing. Makes me want to take a break with my Death korps and assemble and paint couple of Dark angels or Salamanders.. ...but i will be strong... another 120 kriegsmen waiting to be painted!
hey guys, goood news and bbaaaaad news
good news is golden demon in my flgs is next weekend (10th sep) and ill be blogging most parts with my camera and posting pics right here. Also, ive been working lots on the crisis suit, its taking forever because I paint extremely thin layers of vomit brown on and it requires about 7 layers.
BAD NEWS is that my lamp broke, which sucks, because i cant take pictures (bad lighting) and i cant paint! I'm going to try get one tomorrow and ill update then,
Hey guys! Finally got my new lamp! And updates can now continue. I went and assembled my terminators I got back in January and found another battlesuit on sprue in my garage (storage) from a while back, which was awesome! and I also basecoated the whole of the command squad.
Hey ya'll! Golden Demon competition is today in about an hour, and I cant wait! I'm so excited! Anyway, I thought i'd update the blog before I left. I made a standard bearer out of a whole heap of parts, and think he looks absolutely awesome, tell me what you think!
I haven't checked this out in a while, I've missed so much great stuff. There is great work here as always, I'm really liking your new Tau and on your recent work That is one kitted out standard bearer, I like him.
I agree, good work matt! the Tau are done really well and your standard bearer is looking good! he's really a boy scout always prepared isn't he! make sure to let us know as soon as you do about the comp!
@Flying Poooooo heh thanks, maybe i'll try to make a command squad or something
@Norn King cheers man
@Nerdfest thanks for the interest, just let you know Michael (Knightley) made regionals in 3 categories and I made the regionals in both the 2 categories I entered! WOOO!
I had to chat to Craig as I entered 4 models and thought only 3 got through (which was a real surprise) only for him to let me know all got through, so 4 for me and 2 for you, awesome work btw!
Wow, i have just come accross this thread and read it all the way though. You painting has improved so much, your minis look Awesome. And just loving the LR. I initially started reading the thread as i saw you were doing a standard bearer, and that is the next mini i am going to paint from my kit bashed command squad, and i wanted to see how it was going It looks like i will ahve to wait a little bit longer to see him painted hehe.
Good Luck in the GD, you deserve some acreditation for your great work.
I love the way you do the lightning on your power weapons it looks very good. i may have to try that as a variation on the theme i use for my power weapons.
@M0rdian wow man thanks so much! Haha i'll post an update tonight, i've done some work on him, and will keep you posted. Your lightning effects look fantastic by the way, great work! Thanks for wishing me luck too, I hope it goes well
So lots to report today, I made another command squad (to accompany the standard bearer) purely out of spare bits and fully kitted them out, and I have to say I think they're cool as! I also made the vindicator and a rhino from the strike force set and think they're done quite nicely. I did some paintwork on the company champion and standard bearer too, so I hope you like it!
Th Standard bearer is looking good, he really is a Swiss army knife lol. Did your standard come with a banner? or is it one you have added/created yourself? Sadly my one is just the pole so i am going to have to look up how to do a paper one.
I have a spare banner actually. I have bought many command squads in my time, and I made a squad without a banner once and have a spare banner (no pole though) and yes its made of plastic and from the sprue.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Hehehe thanks commander cain
Ahhh, Well i am searching online atm for a banner template. Going to try and free hand one on to paper/card. just need to find something suitable to glue the paper template on to.
HEY HEY!
Been a week since I last checked in, as you see my dads 50th was in the weekend and we celebrated over the whole weekend at our bach and threw him a surprise party . BUT DONT WORRY FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO SEE MODELS - I've done lots of work. On the way back from the bach we stopped off at the GW store where the New Zealand finals for Golden Demon were (my entry had made it this far, along with many submissions from Knightley) and was delighted to find that my entry had made it to the Australia New Zealand FINAL finals! W0OHO0!!! YEA! That felt sweet, I also picked up some devastators whilst I was there. Since I had a few spare bits and pieces around, I was able to build every weapon option and have a squad of 9 fully equipped devs (incl. sgt) I painted the sergeant and think he looks awesome! I've tried some 3 layer highlights recently on both him and a terminator, pics of them are here too. I also moved my painting station again.
Yo LDP, beautiful work again mate! that helmet on the sarge is done excellently and the helmet on the termie is great too! well done with your entries (wish i didn't live in Tassie sometimes) well done to Knightly as well, NZ seems to produce some talented painters! I know of at least 4 of you guys who are right up there!
Thanks mwnciboo don't worry about being brutally honest. In fact it helps a great deal, and your comments do cross my mind very often. I'll have to get a drill so I can drill my barrels. Thanks again man.
Hey guys! Heres what i've got. Did the plasma cannon man today, think he looks pretty good considering he's the first model i've painted fully assembled except for the sgt of his squad (who was easier). Tell me what yall think!
Plasma cannon's pretty cool, Lips. I've been playing the new Space Marine game on PS3 (who hasn't?!...) and it made me grin like crazy when I picked up a plasma cannon. That was until I overheated it and burned my little Ultramarine fingers
Hey guys
Did a lascannon marine today, think he looks great, I tried to do a small explosion with a tally next to illustrate how many tanks he blew up, and it came out okaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy...but probably could've been better, also on his shoulder pad in writing of how he's served in both tactical and devastator squads.
enjoy
LDP

Hey you guys
Sorry I haven't updated in a while, but this is for good reason! For the last 4 or so days i've been building and painting my chapter master. He's not Marneus, but he's next on my to buy list when I get the funds. This guy is my fluffy chapter master and will represent me sort of . For now he can be called "Lipus Pipsen" I'm going to make some fluff for him sometime, but I guess I can do some brief stuff now:
-Around before Marneus
-Inspiring motivational leader relying on small numbers, but with fantastic precision and skill.
...I'll come up with more later
P.S As you can see in the pic hes holding his helmet, so I tried a little drawing of him sort of 'in action'
Hope you like it!
Hey man, just wanted to say all of your work is awesome. I just started the hobby and I'm working on a tac squad and all the SM stuff in the AoBR box and I hope to be able to have this kinda mastery of the hobby one day! Once again great work, keep it coming!
Hey guys,
I really felt an urge to get my scouts laying around done, so I pushed myself this morning to finish them off, and was very pleased with the results! The pictures really don't do them justice .
p.s the YoGPoD is great for painting along to!
I personaly hate the generic ultra marine baby blue soldier but these not only dont suck but they are fantastic i love the fact your not using those light blues everyone else does but goes for a more "realistic" darker blue keep up the exelent work
Looking good as usual LDP, the scouts are cool, they remind me of American Football players with those helmets! you'll have to try and get some clearer pics, they look good, the colours just look a bit flat at the moment and we both know how well you paint and it'd be nice to see it better! :-)
Ho hum. While I really like the models on the last page (12), especially the terminator and the devastator sergeant, those scouts are not my cup of tea. The cadian helmets somehow make them look like badly outfitted rugby players, the mold lines on the shoulder pads are too obvious, and the blue could use more highlights. Also, what colour are the boltgun straps? Looks like some weird purplish brown.
@Mr.Maleovent thanks alot mate! I understand you not liking the guard heads, not many people do, but I thought they looked good, maybe it's just me o:?
In the long run it doesnt matter what any of us think of them, its what you like ya know?
I just wish GW would make a helmet for them from the start, I could never understand sending the Chapter's newest recruits into battle with no head protection o.O
I like the Cadian helms. Makes the scouts look a bit more unique and does give the American footballer feeling. Only thing is to make sure you remove those mold lines...doesn't take long time to do and makes the overall appearance look so much better.
Thanks Eggroll
So many people have told me to get rid of mold lines, but i've never gotten around to doing it. I'll start after my dev squad's done! (they've already got some paint on them you see)
thanks for checking in!
As always great work!
I really like that heavy bolter guy. My favourite part is all the nice little freehand scripts that are scrawled all over his armour, really nicely done there. Also the white thing that you did with the helmet is great, I might use this on my Ultramarines.
Nice and crisp once again. The lenses are looking good but get yourself a pop of 'ard coat (gloss varnish) and put a generous blob to the eyes. This will really make them shine. Just make sure you leave them to fully dry before applying the 'ard coat.
For the amount of effort you clearly put into your figures i would suggest you put a little more effort into removing mold lines ... i hate to see such well painted models only to have the whole look thrown off by the most common mass production error in this hobby.
@djphranq thanks man, you've and Wulfe Luer have inspired me to go and paint now
@Wulfe Luer thanks mate
and P.S Lepidus sounds awesome! I was trying to make a name that sounded like lipsdapips without being silly and Lepidus is mean as! thanks dude, I need to make some fluff about him ASAP
Hey all, Plasma and Lascannon marines are done! hope you like em, 3 models to go in the squad. I'm going to finish those models in 3 days, 1 model per day until Marneus and co arrive, where it may take 2-3-4 days to finish each model (I want them to look beautiful)
I'm really liking the Devastators so far. I wish I could freehand the Ultramarine symbol as well as you can, I have to work with the crappy transfers.
I Cant wait to see your work on Marneus Calgar and his Honour guard, I bet they will be awesome!
Hehe thanks Flying Pooo, my good Ultramarine friend, I found helpful tips from some website somewhere, to freehand like a T shape and then fill around the vertical line of the T and hollow out the middle like this (T) but lower :\ sorry lol it's hard to explain, I may have to make a guide
Oh, MG and HG finecast. Should be fun. I have the metal version base coated and sitting around for over a year now. One of these days when I'm done with the BA's I might go back to painting cool looking HQ's. MG is definitely high on that list. Looking forward to seeing how yours turn out.
Thanks man! Hah I couldn't bear metal models, I had a metal demon prince and I hated it, i'm happy with finecast because now I have a chaplain and I can't wait to paint Marneus and his chums, just need to wait for glues etc to dry, but I honestly cant wait
Hey guys! Finally got some proper pics up of Manreus and co. I have to say I absolutely ADORE how much detail there is on these guys. I tried to get some good pics showing you guys, they're fantastic ril, to crisp and clean. Anyway, I've already finished an honour guard model and I love him. For years and years the honour guard have been my favourite minis and I was never able to paint them, until now (I cant stand metal models). I'm proud of the backpack and helmet and shoes of this guy. The capes are awesome on all the models too, EVERYTHING IS AWESOMMEEEEE! Anyway, the order im gunna do stuff in is as follows:
-Honour Guard 1 (Done) -Standard Bearer -Champion -Honour Guard 2 -The one and only Marneus
Doing marneus last so I have as much experience gained in terms of painting finecast and stuff so he looks as good as can be.
anyway, more updates when they come, the standard bearer's up next, so keep yo' eyes peeled!
Great work on the honour guard, slowly making my way towards doing mine too. Only 1/2 my command sqaud to go then I'll be all over that. What colours do you use for the lenses?
@RiChYc I first base the lends black, then paint the whole lends mechrite red, leaving a very thin black line around the outside. then i proceed to do half of the lens from the inside of the head out to the sides in blood red. then i do one quarter out using blazing orange. And with this model I did a 50/50 mix of blazing orange/iyandan darksun and did 1 smaller colour. and then obviously the white dot for reflection. Good luck with your honour guard!
@Emperors_Champion thanks man! I sure will keep it up and also cant wait for the end result
Hey guys!
Did some work on the standard bearers standard today. I hope you guys like it, I spent a long time getting the dude right! the detail on the standard is fantastic, and it was a pleasure to paint!
More work done the chapter banner. The banner itself is nearly completely done, and the marine is now fully highlighted and his details basecoated in black
Anyway, got a little adventurous and decided to try to some little galaxy things in the background of the standard, and I think they came out very nicely I like the gold and his eyes too, tell me what you guys think! I don't mean to brag, but these pics don't do the mini justice, what I get really for having such a shoddy lightbox
Now, I leave it to you guys. Who Should I Do Next?
That's awesome man! I really like it. If I didn't have exams that I really should be studying for at the moment, I would be painting some of my Honour Guard.
YEA LDP!! The banner looks just great!! I think its some of your best work!! All your stuff is really great though I dig the glow from the stars too. I know its super tiny but it came out very effectively
@bebopdrums2424 haha! Thanks alot mate, I did feel adventurous and a little nervous about doing those, and it came out pretty good in the end, but it doesn't compare to your Sgt Harker . And your snowy guardsman is coming along nicely, cant wait to see him finished!
@Farty Wiffmas Thanks man, I still have alot more to do with Marneus and the squad
Great stuff LDP! lovely work on the squad and that banner is something else! you have seriously spent some time with it all and to a great looking end! well done dude!
Ah Nerdfest, been a while since we chatted! Thanks mate, and JSYK I still avidly follow your blog but haven't really commented recently, so i'll have to get on to that
Loving the progress LDP, looks amazing! I am hoping for some resin wolves in the near future, as it looks nice to paint, and I won't be using any of the special characters in my army so I can't warrant purchasing them sadly.
How have you been anyway, I've had a bit of a break from painting and Dakka but I'm back in it full swing.
Any progress with the Tau? I still have some fire warriors sitting on my table all sorted out and ready to be sent to you, if only I had an address...
Talk soon any way dude, check out my blog tonight for some updated pics!
Hey lads - I looked over to my two rejected dreadnoughts that I haven't paid much attention to in a while, I got inspired to paint them. So I whipped out the brush and got to work. Before that though, I glued on some extra detaily bits and this awesome banner, I hope it looks as cool in your eyes as it does in mine!
Also, I tried some battle damage on this guy, please give me ome feedback!
Good looking dread dude, I only have one problem with it! you've got weathering on the body and shoulders but his whopping great power fist he uses to smite the foes of the emperor is looking a little too clean for my taste! :-)
Love the Ultras! Im gonna be finishing my Ultra army this summer. Ive got a lot of models partially painted but o, gpomg tp cp,[;ete the lot including squad markings and everything including Marneus and his possy. Couple of questions (hopefully they havnt already been asked):
Whats the basic colour progression? (Base, highlight etc.)
Why dont you use the decals?
Just realised you live in NZ! Me too! Go All Blacks and all that haha
@Knightley Sylvia Park GW posted on their FB that models were back in store on the 28th, I have to go get mine
@Jirc good to hear from you again buddy!
@CappyBen Thanks mate. I start with a base of Mordian blue followed by a clean wash of asurmen blue. then i do a thick highlight of ultramarines blue followed by about a 50/50 mix of ultramarines blue/space wolf grey and then 25/75 ultramarines blue/space wolf grey (a little thinner) and finally pure sw grey on the very corners. and i dont use decals because i dont think they look good, I always apply them on angles and they always break and stuff.
@Dakkagrot187 thanks man, I was very pleased with how it came out!
@s3tr0n oooh really!? That's awesome! Thanks alot, and good luck with the sword!
@bebopdrums thanks, and all the absence shall now be explained!
MEGGA MASSIVE UPDATE WITH TWO Gs!
We have been living in temporary accomodation for ~8 months as our leaky house was being redone, and it's finally finished! (To the extent that we can move back in). But my absence has advantages! I still worked on my models heaps, and I installed a cabinet in my wall to display my minis in, and I think it's awesome!
ALSO - Went to my FLGS to collect my model from Golden Demon and got TOP FIVE IN MY CATEGORY!!! (4th or 5th of course ) Which was great, got a little demon pin.
Heres whats been done:
-Cabinet
-Marneus is FINISHED! [Pics below, as always]
-Chapter Champion is WIP -Got a new tac squad (beggings, 5 marines, sgt las and flamer so far, running legs ((bought an assault squad for it )))
-Built ANOTHER (Another!?) ANOTHER captain out of spare bits and pieces. Cuz I love them so much > Hope you like what you see!
Nice work LDP! All looks fantastic. Sucks about the leaky home, I worked over in Botany downs for just under a year on a huge leaky building rebuild, 146 homes rebuilt and re clad, horrible work! How do you find your new house?
lipsdapips wrote:finished my standard bearer tell me what you guys think! I don't mean to brag, but these pics don't do the mini justice
Only just seen this thread now.. Let me say, By all means, continue to brag, that banner is AMAZING! Top work.. Normally I can't stand Ultramarines, but your work makes them great!
Hey LDP,
Nice work on Calgar and his Honour Guard. They look great. Thanks again for that ultramarine chapter symbol tutorial, I used it yesterday on one of my Rhinos and it turned out quite well.
Sorry there hasn't been an update in a while, but we've been working on some house things and I haven't had the time to update. But nonetheless i've got work done! I finished the Champion for Marneus, leaving just the last honour guard to go, who at this stage is based blue, black and highlighted.
I also built a plastic kitbash/conversion sternguard sgt. Hope you like!
@RiChYc yea dude I saw them, good luck with those!
@Flying Poooo haha neither can I, im trying to model them in cool ways using my bits and pieces atm, so just give me a little time p.s the combi melta was done use aspects of your conversion guide thanks for that (except i used a infernus pistol for the melta bit)
WAHOO! What a journey
My painting has improved so much during my painting of Marneus Calgar and his honour guard. They are the centerpiece of my army and should be treated as such. I think i've done them well Enjoy!
@Horst thanks buddy! Haha do you mean the one with the generic pose standing on the CSM helmet? Lol that was one of my first models with that LS technique, thanks!
@s3tr0n thanks alot man. I put ALLLOT of time into my models, explaining the slow progress haha. For my gold I do a base of black, then scorched brown, then dwarf bronze and then shining gold (shining gold doesnt have to cover all areas, can just be the raised bits). Lastly I give it a liberal wash with a coat or two of devlan mud
They are absolutely awesome. They are exquisite sculpts and demand a beautiful paint job. You have certainly delivered. They look amazing.
Truly awesome work man!
Nice work on Calgar and his super-best-friends, Lips. I've got to agree with s3tr0n - that gold has a really nice antique / burnished look that sits really well with the blue. That first pic of them all lined up together is six different flavours of awesome :-)
Nice work as usual LDP! you really are getting better and better aren't you! marneus and his home boyz! wow! looking sweet as! and his face is really nicely painted! tiny bloody teeth for the win!
Tried my new, better updated paint scheme in anticipation for the upcoming MEGA INCOMING. Took a little longer than usual but I think it looks MUCH better, worth the time.
Tell me what you think!
Hey guys! Wahoo! Xmas is here early for me! was able to scoop up a finecast sicarius (with loads of flash, a missing sword arm and plasma pistol hand (((((((, I was able to get another sword hand, so I was able to build him holding his helm) and the SM Megaforce, and i'm really happy. As some may know, the megaforce comes with a CAPTAIN! which make my 10thish captain probably hahaha! Anyways, i'm proud of his assembly, tell me what you think!
P.S First pics with my iPhone
**EDIT** Seeing the format of these pics, I guess i'll be sticking to my camera . But no worries! I just used the phone because the camera was out of battery, the camera's better for pics.
The colour scheme is exactly the same, but i've started to highlight my models. I sometimes go as bright as Space Wolves gray pure on the VEERRRRY edges, and it makes the models look alot brighter and IMO better
Sup guys! Finally got a smidge of charge in the camera and can get some pics. So far i've already built the captain, tac squad 1, command squad (4x plasma), drop pod and the land speeder storm, can't wait to finish the rest and get on to painting! Woohooo!!!!
Looks good lips. Was thinking about getting the SM Megaforce but had all the models in there and the last thing I needed was to buy more models to add to my paint queue...so instead I bought the Dark Eldar Megaforce
Haha good choice Eggroll! Annoying how they get more models haha nah, i'm really pleased with this years megaforce, had lots of models I dont have (Drop pod land speeder storm and venerable dread). Im painting up the dread now, want to get as much done before the end of January (Which is when my birthday is haha)
Nope, I fully assemble then paint. I used to paint them in parts, but its just a pain and I think doing fully assembled is faster and isn't actually much harder ;P
I'm prepping to get some Grey Knights for my birthday at the end of next month and painted up a GK from the box I got a while ago. I tried to make the paintjob fast and good looking. Pics soon!
Sup lads.
I built and started painting the venerable dread, which is coming along quite nicely. I'veleft the sarcophagus front plate bit off for painting and so people can look at the interior. I used a black templar helmet, which I think fits well. ALSO i'm going to be starting a competitive Grey Knights army in late January (My Birthday time ) and so I did up a test model from the box set I got a while ago when the GKs came out. I think he looks good and worn and 'Grimdark'. It's a quick paintjob that looks nice as a whole so I can do the army and get them on the tabletop. Tell me what you all think!
Hey guys, i'm taking a short break from Ultramarines for a while to work on a 1750 point GK army. I can't wait to get some models around xmas for them, because they're awesome, super elite, and easy to paint the link to the new blog is below, be sure to follow! The second GK test is on there. Thanks guys!
Good luck with that Landspeeder Storm Lips, took me ages to paint! (it's detailed vehicle AND six figs after all)... at the rate you fire through your paintng list it should take you... ooh... at least an hour!!! )
Haha I dunno Doggles I paint pretty slow I was looking at the LSS and dreading it, so much dynamicness, its like painting a 6 man scout squad and a land speeder. Brushes prepare me!
Hey guys. Seeing as I finished all three of my GK models, and have to wait till Xmas to (hopefully!) get more, I decided to start work and hopefully finish my next captain. It's going well so far, i've got alot of work done and what I think are my best highlights yet. Tell me what you think, and remember to check out the beginning of my GK blog! (link in sig)
Thanks, and stay tuned!
LDP
Pics below
*EDIT* Fixed the gloppy bit on his right knee! Yay it's all uniform!
Nice dude, real nice, you are damn good at those edge highlights and you sure can use them to good effect! he's gonna look sweeet as when he's all finished, i'm looking forward to seeing the dread done too, he should be something special!
Hahah! Good to hear from you again Nerdfest, been a while since you tuned in, thanks for the words! I too can't wait to see this guy done, i'm gunna do as good a job as is humanly possible at my standards on this guy, hope it shows on the finished model
BTW, Haven't seen much going on in your blogland Nerdfest, what's up with that? D:
Hello You kindly posted on my log, so I felt honour bound to check in on yours and I'm glad I did!
Marneus and his command squad made me do a double take - those guys are awesome!! Your painting quality is what I would expect to see in a GW display case on the high street - very good work indeed, my friend. I see that you started this thread back in May and have to say that there is a distinct improvement in your work throughout the pages - the blue of the armour in particular. I really like your reds by the way - the sergeants look very pimp.
One thing though, and I'm sorry that I'm repeating what others have said. Mouldlines. Stop it, or I'm coming over there with my flatulence and making your life uncomfortable
Much appreciated my friend! Glad to hear you're pleased with Marneus and his chums. And I think you should be the master of blackmail haha because that's funny I agree though I think i'll start shaving off them lines once I get a new blade for me hobby knife
Nice job on the claws and lenses dude! I have been here lurking just everyone else has been saying all the stuff I would have :-) I have stuff on the go with my blog I've just been busy with work and haven't had a chance to finish anything up to a standard where anyone would car to see what i've done! lots of priming and washing without much painting! :-)
keep it up Lips, that captain is coming along great! I know you probably get sick of hearing it but you really have improved since the start and it's great to see the leaps and bounds you've made!
Thanks Nerdfest, always good to hear from you I too am extremely pleased with the progress i've made just painting these models takes forever to get the standard I want
I know what you mean dude, I love my sallies but to get to that level they are taking forever! that's why I've started my Dark eldar army to paint up with quick methods so I don't get sick of hours on each model! on the plus side I get a rather nasty army to play with soon and then I get to go back to my first love of marines! I just hope I don't need to apologize about the rushed job on them too much ;-)
I’m loving your ultras there are really good!Your marnous is far better than mine, I think I may repaint my guys. Btw is he Finecast? Mine is the metal one and you have Sircaus grrrr, my jealousy gets even worse!LOL! I want to get him for Christmas too. Your other blog is amazing I'd stumbled across it before and never knew that you were on dakka! The helmeted scouts are really cool a friend of mine used a normal SM helmet instead for the starge. I really want to rip of the heads of my scouts and use guard heads but I don't currently have any, Just have to wait till I start a maggage PDF IG army.
The plastic Chaplin is superb, hey how about you check out my blog too? (Link is in signature). The use of lighting works really well do you use cattafish technique? For my Hounor Guard I did black swords but highlights didn’t work. Can't wait for updates ,
Woo! I knew you'd stumble across me some day HAZZER i've been waiting haha. I've seen you around checking a commenting on other peoples works but never commented on anything, i'll check out your blog now! My Marneus is finecast, I coudln't stand metal models. Thanks for tuning in!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Hey guys, I tried filming a video of my captain so far so you can see him in video form, but I think it's a little low res, what do y'all think?
Got some detailing work done on the captain, spending HEAPS of time on this guy, want him as good as can be Did some dryfits for a fluffwise command squad with all the stuff (company champ and standard ) and think they look pretty nice, tell me what yall think!
LDP
P.S Which do you think is better? the picture of the captain with or without flash?
Edit: sorry these pics are dark, meh it's just grey plastic for the most part o:
Nicely done LDP your captain looks really good! are you gonna throw a couple of highlights on the rope braids across his chest? I think that's the only thing missing to be honest as overall you have nailed it! :-) great stuff
Looking back I did actually make a pinky colour and highlighted the tassley bits, but I do agree it's still a little dull, but I worry it'll look bad if I do more, we'll see when the rest is done
sometimes I find that when you just go for that one extra highlight it looks great! like when I was doing the lava parts on my sallies I was reluctant to go all the way up to white, but it worked and really made the bits look how i imagined them, i guess it'll be the same for you, it might look done but lacking a little oomph! then you take a risk and paint a little more and all of a sudden! boom! LDP wins golden demon! :-)
Heheh ok you'll win i'll give it a go (if I remember, we're at the bach over christmas, but I bought my camera, and it has some pics so I can keep updating over the next few days.)
MEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRY CHRISTMAS! Hope you all had/ are having a wonderful time!
The GK force over at my other blog (link in sig) has officially begun! Got a box of PAGK and a 1992 high elf mage! Haha it's awesome! We also saw a baby hedgehog Post any pics of stuff you got!
Well, well, well
My brush sizes vary insanely
I use a large brush for the basecoat,
then a fine detail brush for the first highlight
then my ultra fine detail brush (a fine detail brush that is ages and lost a few bristles, its amazing ) for the last two layers of highlight
My cheagles are simple:
Black
Scorched brown base
Dwarf Bronze
Shining gold
Devlan mud wash

To be totally honest Nerdfest both the production lines have been halted recently. But school holidays just started, so I think they'll be starting up again soon! Probably the Ultramarine one, just because I feel in that mood ;P
Hey guys. I hadn't really been in the mood to do stuff with 40k recently, so I took a 1ish month break. I'm starting to get back into it again though now and hopefully the blog will be back in full swing after my exams at the end of may. To start of the return, I thought i'd show you guys a cool little Vulkan He'stan conversion counts as I made, which I personally am pleased about. Sometimes I find it hard to make original poses nowadays with all the bits around, but I feel i've done this guy justice, while keeping elements of the proper vulkan model in there.
Ah! I was hoping you'd ask, I think he's ready for another blog update, since the last one i've fully finished the helmet with a skull white mix and have begun with the highlights.
I'll give you an update soon mate!
Super Noob question, how do you get that black into the model's recesses? I really like that. And do you drybrush them? Im trying to learn all these styles so pardon my lack of knowledge.
cheers Capitan, looks like I (hopefully) still have it!
Texanity do you mean the darker colours in the recesses? I use washes for that, specifically asurmen blue which I believe is now discontinued
Bigfish makes a good point.... Maybe a scope and a different mag? The stormbolter from the rhino has a nice mag, maybe half of that? Looking good mate!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh and also, Im getting my case in two weeks, care for a game?
Got his white bits done.
I'll put a scope on the bolter bolter I paint that bit up and he shoulod be done soon.
I take it you're doing the base Knightley?
Im also going to finally finish my latest captain, cant wait to see him done!
LDP
The white on that GMS marine is great, and the highlights are top notch.
Also Really nice Work on that Captain! How many is that now?
His highlights are exceptional. And that scroll work is amazing.
It's just that...*cough*RemoveMouldLinesAndDrillOutBarrels*cough*.
Yeah, I know the feeling of uploading a pic of a mini that you've spent hours painting only to realise there are some mould lines that have escaped your sight somehow. It's usually always the same place for me (on the backpack).
Oh well, yours is a brilliantly painted mini and you can get away with the little things like that!
Woohoo! My exams are finally over.
So the return can officially begin. I'm going to do some meddling with Black Templars for a cool looking army, not one to game with, so expect a couple updates to do with them soon. My last exam was today and i've already done more work on your marine Knightley.
Put a small 'K' on the kneepad for uniquity and based everything in black. One more update and I think this guy'll be done!
Oh crud, I JUST realised I made a fatal mistake
I put sand on the base D: What do you want me to do? should i try to get it off or leave it to you?
Sorry mate :(
