You haven't changed a single bit, didn't you dark?
evil can change? also his big post confuzeld me. he has 9 people in his teams thing at the top,yet he forgot to put the wildhost in a tam.but i also only counted 8 profiles in da green. strange, right?

No, and as he's provided me with no further information on his character, he's not in the RP yet, but once he gets involved, i'll find a way to include him.
Players may now only dictate their own characters actions, and will have to wait and see if any other charter they mention in their posts goes along with any actions they request in that post.
Example:
Player A's character asks Player B's to move out of their way, as their post involves them running to catch a bus.
Player B says their character doesn't move as so the two collide and as a result now Player A cannot catch the bus.
No offense.......but really?... this would make everything i already wrote in the thread invalid...

What you've written thus far is still valid, this change is from now on.
My reason is this, everyone took the time to make a character, and so only they can accurately say what they would do in certain citations, Raynolds may go an a rampage, or curl up and cry once the Admiral disciplines him, i don't know. thats not my job, I'm here to prove situations your characters can act in.
this is ROLE playing, you've chosen a part for yourself and get to act it out how you thing your role would, if someone else came on and said you did something you know your character wouldn't you'd be pissed right? Imagine if someone said Trix left someone to die in order to get a fat payoff from a corrupt official, but it fit with their post, you'd hate that right?
But Harrab, that's common sense and trust. If a player isn't willing to use those virtues, then they shouldn't be in the game.
I completely disagree with not being able to control other characters - I feel it is completely fine as long as it is done well. Then afterwards, if something is blatantly wrong, it can be politely pointed out and changed.
This new ruling will slow the game down a lot and make it a lot harder to have characters interact.
Whilst I will go with the rulings, I'm going to go ahead and say that if anyone wishes to use my character, they may do so, as long as they, as I've said, use common sense and maintain trust. Of course this is an "only if necessary" scenario, as always.
sillyboy, we've roleplayed together for a long time, and I have a feeling that you'll agree with me, at least to an extent.

meh. im going to say it blankly. i trust some people here more than i do others. so i dont think will control him how id want, while others i think will do an ok job.

I see your point, but my points above still stand, only the creator truly knows what a character will do, directing the other players makes me think you're stepping on my toes.
I am willing to relax the ruling, if everyone promises that they will not take things to extremes and make damn sure that the character they are moving with is happy with what's happening.
I know it seems as if I'm undermining you, but as an experienced GM, I feel it's necessary to point these things out so that other players can express their thoughts and also so you can consider the best course of action/gain GMing experience.
Sounds a bit silly, I know, but I'm rushing this. Got revision to do.
Anyway, as I was saying, I'm only saying what I am in an attempt to improve the game for everyone.
I'll be honest, the last sentence of that post is basically what I'm aiming for, and as far as I can tell it's only Snarky who's complained so far.

Ahem, i'm not reacting against his role or char, im reacting against the situation.
My char believes honour is important, so my actions were according to her beliefs.
Misusing chars? He said two things. Thanks and agreeing. (wich i think his char would do, unless he was a loner) And he has just a painfull throat.
So i took control, acted correctly, didn't do anything wrong...
I personally don't understand why Snarky is upset.
And for your example; would be hilarious. But, yes i would be upset. Because as you said you didn't "listen to my char."
I personally believe that, without taking control of other chars, rp-s would be dull. And make sure everyone would post only one sentence. (I'm not a big fan of this )
You just have to complie to basic things.
Personality, situation, actions. and PC's can't seriously injure other PC. Major decisions would have to be made with the Pc in question.
A lot of good threads use this principle, and they turned out to be very entertaining.

I understand and am thankful for all the help you've given, I'm just making sure everyone is on the same page. Snarky, if you have problems with this let us know what exactly is annoying you so much and hopefully we can come to an agreement.
I'm also putting a ban on one line posts that don't add much, as they just confuse people and take up space
Posts like: Jhon scratched his nose while he waited for the bus.
How does that evolve your character? if nothing's happening and you absolutely have to post and fill time, have your character remain in the same sate he was in when things were more active, but have think back on events, make plans, that sort of thing.
TheWildHost wrote:Omg answear my questions FFS Is sharpe with the cadets and Is my character still beat up to hell with Sillys RP that changed the gak.
Please calm down a bit, all silly's post changed was how Snarky's character got out of jail, Sharpe is doing her own thing afterwards as you will see once this mess is settled and i have a chance to post the next goings on..

What was bothering me about taking control of my character was the fact that the text completely changes what I'm trying to make my character.
True, I said my character is a bit of a jerk, but I said that in jest. Darkvoids and Sillyboys posts make my character look like an idiotic bigot. I'm not trying to make my character a racist or a bigot. I'm trying to add rivalry and conflict within a group.
Have you ever read a story or played a game where everything was happy-do-dah that was engaging? I haven't. Taking control of minor actions, fine. I'm ok with someone ordering my character if I'm captured etc.
Taking control of my character and changing his personality? No. I guess that some of my posts sound better in my head then they do in text, but my point stands. If your character thinks my character is a jerk, you can express your opinion in one of your IC posts. Don't make my character do or say things that make him an idiot or a bigot, it makes it more difficult for me to stay in character with my posts.
I'm going to go into more details about Dreadnoughts, as Darkvoid has expressed his desire to fight one several times and i feel he sould at leats know what to expect:
Alliance Apocalypse Class Dreadnought: "Day of Judgement."
Hard-points: 30
5 dreadnought class ion cannons in dorsal mounts. (cause 1-3 points of damage per shot,)
10 Nimbus Class Torpedo tubes. (each torp can split into three after launch.)
5 point defense batteries
5 Super Heavy Cannons
Electronic Warfare pod (can immobilize hostile ships with EMP.)
Hyper-space Inhibitor Field Generator in shielded interior compartment, (once activated it prevents anyone from entering or leaving the battle-space)
Summary, it can immobilize you, drop your shield, prevent you from running away and hammer a battleship class vessel into scrap in a single round, still want spar with one Darkvoid?

Yes, your character may think that. But don't put words in my characters mouth.
Like this. "Thanks Trix, you're my sweetheart." My character would never say this, he's an officer of the navy, not some drunk looking to pick up some floozy at a bar.
This is what I'm talking about, my guy might be arrogant and short tempered, but he respects his peers and colleagues no matter how lowly he thinks of them on a personal level, in my bio, he's supposed to have served professionally in the navy for 12 years, he's not some hot-shot rookie.
Changing my characters personality makes it difficult for me to write my next post.

But i made your char say it laughingly....As a joke...
But very well, i'll go edit.
Changed it to:
"Thanks Trix, you came at the right time"
I would have preferred it if you managed to make my character not talk at all. They can travel in silence you know. You still haven't got it. I don't want people putting ANY words in my characters mouth.
It's like when Darkvoid teleported my character in his post, my character could have been anywhere, he was AWOL, yet Darkvoid decided to control my character and place me.
Here's what, if you control or teleport my character and you are not the GM, I'll have to ask you you to change it.

Edit:
Not sure if anyone else has wondered this yet, but why is the roleplay called "Crystal Angels"? Been bugging me for a few days now. Gotta be some significance there.

Good... GOOD, let it fester within your mind young one and let it drive you MAD!!
As an aside, i have three story lines written up for this RP to follow, depending on player actions, so the reason for the name may be revealed sooner, or perhaps later, it depends on what script you follow, and if you go off on a FORTH track, it might not even crop up.
Important question, are our Marines equipped with standard firearms (ie advanced versions of modern-day guns) or more advanced weapons?
Here are the possible categories for weapon types that I can think of:
Standard solid ammunition weaponry - "Normal guns" Laser weapons. Pulse/Plasma based weapons. Railguns.
Realistically, Pulse, Rail, Plasma and Laser weapons would all be potentially in widespread use in a hundred years' time. I'm not going to go into the details of why or how these would work, but I do know that they would and some of them very nearly or do exist in real life, albeit not very numerously or with particularly effective results. In over a hundred years, this technology would've been refined and probably become widely adopted amongst militaristic organizations

i kinda agree.except plasma.ive heard nothin on plasma weapons in todays world.ive heard of the other 2 though. and whats pulse?
Pulse weaponry uses an induction field to propel a particle, which reacts by breaking down to create a plasma pulse as it leaves the barrel.
Yes, it's from the Tau codex, but I've seen actual videos of similar things out there (albeit much less deadly, but can shoot through steel.. you can make these things at home).
Edit: Basically a type of plasma weapon, but less powerful and works in a different way. Much safer as well as it doesn't store any dangerous chemicals or what have you.

You have done your homework.
I thought Laser weapons would make sense as they would be less risky to the ship they serve on and can be fired even in a vacuum.

There are 6 ships, including a carrier and a battleship, unless you are writing an essay, we won't kill them all first.
Plus, we have to wait for harrab to see what damage we do.
Yes, I am writing an essay. It includes LeGuin and AI shenanigans, lots of drinking, a party and everyone's hangovers dissipate in time to blow stuff up!

Just pointing this out before you get carried away again...
Once we get to a shipyard, possible the one WE SHOULD BE DEFENDING, you could overhall your ship, and give it a new hull, to look like this.
Not sure if Harrab would think thats a good idea though.
Another possibility, use it as a new ship once your first one gets destroyed.
Edit: (We as in us, not wood elves as dakka seems to think. They can help if they like though)
you saying the mutts cannon fodder? if it does get destroyed,i might use that...who am i kiddin? if allowed,i will use it! if the mitt dies, that is...which i hope not...but then again,i did rush off if you look at RP.

if trix comes her 5 point defenses will help that not happen. darko should go help the shipyard. along with sharpe and snarky.
I'm going to cripple the enemy Battleship and then dispatch boarding parties to capture the vessel as a victory prise (to present to the battered Plutonian defense forces) and to take prisoners for my security officer to interrogate them. Very bad place for them to be.

a pirate fleet of this size attacking Pluto or any world in the Sol system would be horribly raped by the two dreadnoughts who take up permeant residence there, not to mention the rest of the fleet tasked with home defense.
I actually posted that the fleet would be using the jump point near pluto on its transit to Aria.

Plutonian? you're in another sector, Aria, AKA above Trix's homeworld
hu? oh few.gotta go edit. you made it sound like we were at pluto.

Natalie sat at the bar, drinking a Tequila, when someone tapped her soldier. She turned around and saw a certain smiling private dressed in casually. "Care to dance?" He asked.
"Tom!" She exclaimed, downing the rest of the her drink, "Of course," She smiled, allowing herself to be carefully pulled to her feet.
And so they danced. Natalie couldn't remember feeling so calm in years - since before the academy. Just to be held in the caring grip of a charming young man, the simple pleasure of completely innocent touch.. it was perfect. She layed her head on his shoulder and smiled as he held her.
to hell with you! if thats not love it most defiantly is lust!
Almost completed my last bit of roleplaying for tonight. Warning: contains flashing images and some violent scenes. Younger viewers should activate imagination inhibitors now.
Some of you may be wondering how I'm managing this RP, and it is actually pretty simple.
I roll dice, although for somethings i'll just go with my gut, or with what sounds cool inside my head, but the dice are there so things are not a popularity contest.
For example, i mentioned before that i have three similar plots lined up for this, but the choice of your first battleground was chosen for pure shock value, "oh no! one of our players comes from here, we'd better save it!." no matter which plot i chose, you'd always have ended up there, but in only one of three choices where there actually any enemies at all, for that i rolled dice.
This way i can keep interested, and instead of fuming when you PC's refuse to follow my master plan, i have more options and they also give you more freedom.
in a way the path of the RP depends on your choices, and a little luck, lets see where it takes us.
EDIT: meant to say "are not a popularity contest." stupid brain.
Yeah, you've explained it to me personally before and it's a very interesting and inspiring way of doing things. The blatant success of this roleplay speaks for itself.
I think the greatest thing about this roleplay is nothing like it has ever been done before on Dakka. Okay, yes, Scrazza did a Space Pirate type game once, but it failed miserably.

I look forward to it...
BTW: How many of these story lines involve us having to fight a tonne of dreadnoughts, as Darkvoid seems to want to do?
New Idea for Tactics:
Put big screens on the front of our ships, all playing an image of Darkvoid's Hypno-Cat.
It will confuse the pirates so much, that we will be able to destroy them before they fire back!

Raptor you crazy fool, that idea is so stupidly insane that it just might work!
I'm so glad I am english, when I say something, most people understand. I have been to France and Belgium, and have only met one person who didn't speak english.
It's good to know other languages, and to be able to speak to people in their countries language, but english is so useful, because most people know it.
I speak dutch, Flemish (trust me if you can speak dutch, you still can't speak flemish), English, French, and can make myself comprehensible in german.
Every inhabitant of belgium knows three languages. (Not that they're good at it, but they can say something)
I know at leased some words in: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Chinese. I can have a conversation in: English, French and sometimes German I want to learn: Classical Latin
(I know, it's a dead language. I just want to learn it.)

Who fly one of our ancient ships....
Not necessarily - "Mothership" is just the term used to describe vessels of comparative size on the rare occasion that such ships should be stumbled upon. You may well not be looking at something of human, or recored human, construction.

A deign of ship intended to function as an Ark of shorts in the early years of The Alliance, such a ship would have been larger than even a dreadnought, and would have contained everything needed to keep generations of colonists alive throughout the trek between systems. The design was soon canceled however, as Humanity lacked the ability to power and move a ship of such size with their current level of technology, but the invention of the Hyper-drive a few years later solved that problem and much smaller colony ships were constructed and sent out during the First Expansion. The term was kept however, in the unlikely event the Alliance encountered a ship of such size.
