Thanks folks.
Yeah various inks and washes, and probably an odd product or two.
Missed the start but here is a shot showing them given a nasty flesh tone,
Primer grey
Brick red wash
Elf flesh
Yellow spots
Reikland fleshshade
Flesh drybrush
And then current stage adding purple wash...

Plague Bearers are looking great Cam. I am not sure but I think if you have the DM box all the rules you need to play are in the box along with the models. If you want to use Not Mortarion and the plague bearers you may need the Death Guard codex.
Hope you get a chance to play, let us know how it turns out!

That ork merely touched a 'naughty' (hence the spots) and caught 'naughtypox'!
Rather than wait for the effects to get worse, he's gone off to "the valley of the 'sit-downs'" to get himself cured!!
Cause everybody knows the only cure for naughtypox is a sitdown.

Hope you all had a great Christmas and Santa was good to you.
Best wishes to you all for the New Year, hope 2018 is a great one for you all.
Well I did really great for Christmas, got me Necromunda from my much better half, and the kids did me proud with a Start collecting Flesh Eater Court, ripe for conversion, and pack of the Nurgle guys, going to have quite a Nurgle army.
Could not resist starting on this fella....
Thank you all for the fantastic support you have all given me this last year, I am missing you all badly at the moment, I will try and get a few review posts up, hopefully get things sorted soon.

Finish an actual army...Death Guard probably.
Do at least another tables worth of terrain.
Start a new blog, pulling everything together.
Do some articles for Dakka, probably tutorial based.
Build an underhive refinery.
Compete in every LoER comp.
Build a Ork Gargant, ( probably donate it to anyone who wants it.)
Move and review studio area.
Sculpt a 40k Tyranid titan.
Build at least 3 superheavy tanks for guard army.
Hope that wets your appetite. Pics soon promise.

The old citadel journal had additional rules where you could add extra mercs to gangs. Goliaths could hire ogryns, since that's everything they aspire to be, and Escher could hire ratlings, since that's how they like their men

Really nice work on the cape: looks good at full zoom also! (screen timeout while staring at the finish) Very pleased to see some underhive dwellers who actually look like they live in the underhive - top job! Makes the GW examples look cartooney; way too clean-looking for gangs that scratch out an existence in the corroding lower levels of a hive city. Looks great but I think a black lip on the bases is needed to balance the contrast. Whilst there's a certain appeal in them dissolving into their bases, I think they need to stand out a bit more to show off how good 'n' crusty they are.
9910
Post by: CommissarKhaine
I agree the lips of the base could use some colour - though I'd consider a brown (mainly because that's what I use I suppose). Lovely, disgusting work on those Nurgle models
72556
Post by: Red Harvest
Agreed. The top of the base can be a part of the scenery in which the mini is placed, the whole mise en scène thing, pardon my French, but the sides... Not really. But then I have unorthodox ideas ,' bout bases and basing. Mainly because I hate doing the extra work.
I look forward to your first Necromunda batrep, replete with pictures, of course. The gangs look stylin'.
93572
Post by: Yorkright
Looking forward to a Necromunda bat rep, especially if it is on your custom terrain. Deathguard are looking good and crusty, but I have to throw my vote towards having the lips of the bases changed to either black or brown.

Oh dear. Lad, You're too young to fall and break your hip.
I'll be serious now. Please listen carefully Cam: Do NOT neglect the physical therapy. Not one bit. This is incredibly important, especially with any sort of hip injury. I ripped up some muscles in my hip and backside this summer and the physical therapy, although arduous, made a huge, huge difference.
Also, please be careful with the pain meds. Sometimes anti-inflammatories are all you need. There is something called a TENS-EMT for pain management too. Ask your Dr. and physical therapist about them. I've found mine incredibly useful.

Omfg dude, that's a really gakky roll of the dice. You failed your difficult terrain check, your armour save and your FnP check. I suppose that as a Squad leader parent you're glad you cant take 'look out sir!' tests against wounds suffered from difficult terrain tests huh? Lucky, as an Archmagos you have a whole bunch of wounds in your statline, but i still think it's a rough deal you having to go to a medical facility to make use of the ' IWND' usr I'll be glad to hear when you're back at maximum wounds again dude!

A quick recovery to you, Cam, and I strongly second what Red Harvest advised regarding physical therapy, pain meds versus anti-inflamatories. I got busted up parachuting and attribute being able to complete 15 more years in the Service to an extremely stubborn and forceful Physical Therapist- she was not impressed by anything I had to say on the subject.

Yeah as you can clearly see it wouldn't take much to make me sweat haha, working on that. But yeah as mentioned it was extremely well packed, even after FedEx beat up the poor thing, only two bits let go in the whole set, which were easily fixable. Now Vik, no worries. Twinner, he's Canadian. Those folks have a pretty wicked sense of humor. Proof? They sent Jim Carrey to the USA. And Michael J Fox. And Lorne Michaels. And Neil Young and ... Haha. Jokes on US. Grrr. it would be nice if they actually sent us some people with, oh, what is it called, ah yes, talent.
Cam: do ask about anti-inflammatories. They will help with that pain, since some of it is bound to be from swelling. We've already lectured you about the PT. I know that things seem dark now, but there will be a happy ending to all of this. Really, there will be.
Time guide for the video:
So at 3:30 I'm shouting at the monitor, "Open the fethin' box already!"
At 4:30 I'm thinking that Cam has an interesting sense of humor too. Soooo much tape. And Newspapers. Too bad Twinner can't read them, since they are written in Scottish and not in Canadian, eh.
(It's funny, if you know how some of the Canadian accents came "aboot.")
At 5:00 we get the first look. Nice. And just gets nicer.
The rest is more excellent terrain. I must say that the game mat goes well with the terrain too. The windmill, so cool to see again.
The set will provide years of enjoyment.

My hobby space is in the basement too. I don't pay for it since I already own it. Well, I pay property taxes, so yeah, I guess I pay for the privilege too... Their basement is nicer than mine. Naw, the Scottish don't collect bones. They collect organs. Especially sheep's stomachs. They stuff the stomachs with oats and herbs and spices and other organ meats, including sheep's lungs. Naturally, they cook it and eat it.
It is illegal to import anything containing sheep's lungs into the USA, BTW.
At least the Scottish have better sense than to eat snails and other things normally found under rocks.
Don't act surprised. You all knew that this would end up with a Haggis joke.
Do my eyes lie to me, or do I see the words, 'lube oil cooler' on one of the columns. Sounds like the future Necromunda terrain is going to need some serious scrubbing before it is safe for working with. There are many useful bits in that box. Very nice acquisition, Cam. You will, of course, impress the Dickens out of us with what you do with it.

Determined to have a good day today.
Lets start...
Also separated some of the smaller pieces, going to have a go at some today.
Would like your thoughts on something. In my head (scary place) Necromunda is based in the basement of a huge city spire, well surely you will have the "feet" and "legs" of the city . So I will have a go at at least one of those. What you think?
Thanks for all your wonderful support, you have no idea what it means to me.

Oh. Nevermind All those little tubes make perfect pipe work, eh? Very cool. Some scaffolding is coming? IIRC, Necromunda play requires that sort of thing. Of course I haven't played in over 20 years, so take my comments not seriously.
What do you mean by feet?

That's a nifty looking terrain piece. I'm curious, though, about your method for painting the base. In earlier photos, you had a thin, streaky layer of what looks like rust-colored paint. In these photos, it's been covered with blue-green. However, your finished work is never that messy. What, exactly, is your process?

Ok handrails...
@ Josh, thanks and no worries here we go I think...
This is the state of it as was, the previous colours are just the results of washes applied above and spread out to dry, for this piece I am also aiming for the "basement's basement" feel i.e. all the debris of a billion soils finds its way down here, don't quite want to be hip deep in it, but clean floor it ain't.
I don't mind the various stains, I wash over them with a deep grey...
Whilst it is still very wet I sprinkle bi-carbonate of soda into the wet paint, and add a few drops of very watered down PVA over that....
You can see this is very wet, the trick is let it dry naturally. But whilst it is still wet I add some spots of superglue.....
Look like fungus or chemical stains to me....
Here are a few other shots...
Hope that helps Josh, this set is a bit more specifically dirty floor, will have final shots up later once it is all dry.
Thank you all so much for your comments.

Thank you all.
Just a quick drop in to talk paint.
Was a little discussion on CommissarKhaine's excellent plog ( https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/1470/266318.page#9802210) about GW changing the paint on him.One of things I do is make batches, large batches. Now as I have said before I am not a good painter, and even worse when it comes to technical stuff. I do most of my mixing by eye, and have never writen down a paint recipe in my life, however from my early days I knew that if you are going to be painting up any quantity of something make enough paint to cover all, here are examples of my current batches...
Working from top left, that's a large jar of my homebrew Ryza Rust, made using Daler Rowney Acrylic, it is a lot of initial investment (£15 / 400ml) but it lasts and lasts and the quality is just brilliant. Then a jar of homebrew Angrax Earthshade, made with brown, black , and a hint of purple, and made mostly with Pledge Polish. Then Large Jar of Verdigris blue green.
I am going to be using a lot of these over the coming couple months, got another board worth of scenery for twinner to do and want to do the necromunda stuff.
The smaller jars are the washes I generally use a lot. It just makes sense to me to make batches rather than trying to mix it each time. Of course you could just buy the paints, properly, but the way I use washes quite often it would cost me a fortune. This way I am pennies compared to pounds.
Next is a little find...found this in the nail art section of the local pound land....
You apply it with the thin nozzle on the bottle, It is a really thick paint that does not shrink as it dries. Here is an example of how I am using it.....
Brilliant for applying weld lines and at a pinch rivets, though I am not to happy with the rivets. Also great for the lead work on stain glass windows, and I have used it several times now as "liquid GS" always promised to be, a nice gap filler for smaller cracks etc. Seriously folks get a pot and try it out.
Lastly spoilered for the squeemish, a reference pic of scare tissue for you....
Back later with modelling update, thanks for now, hope this is of some help to someone.

Oi...my sister has scars like this on both hips...dislocated hips and bone as a wee baby...so the docs had break and reset every thing...she was also in plaster... why aren't you then?
Making your own paints/washes is a very good thing, very economic!
In the spirit of the great shasolenzabi I also worked with puffy paint and lately with pva to make rivets...with great success. Tho I don't use the muzzle that comes with the bottle but now a syringe instead...steady hand and lots of rivetzen and you get quite some decent and quick results...
72556
Post by: Red Harvest
The plate and pins, I suspect, obviate the need for a cast. There are things you can do to reduce the scarring, Cam. You could look into that, if you want.
Daler Rowney makes quality stuff. I have a set of the inks(?) but I never remember to use them.
Intriguing find for the nail art. I'll have to look out for that.
The floor does have that old warehouse look, which is the perfect fit.

Ok big pic dump, no it os not finished, not by a long way.
With interiors in...
Before I stuck them in, did this little tutorial for you Syro...
Start
Add some watered down PVA..note it is only on the top surface.
Then apply a piece of tissue
Then soak the tissue with watered-down PVA. And using a cocktail stick press it down, check your folds.
Tuck it about and fold it until happy.
Then while it is still wet I paint it.
Hope that helps, once it is dry, you can paint it again. It sets quite hard and durable.
Next ..processing off cuts. These are various thickness and cut completely random to rough box shape.
Some superglue and random pile
Scale shot.
Also threw a few other bits together.
Started some of the scaffolding.
Well that's it for today.
Thanks for looking and all the amazing feedback.

I really like the graffiti.
Also thank you for the tutorial on how to make tarps. You'll be seeing my rendition of that idea at some point.

@CK, thanks, Vik has it. Painted on paper and pasted in.
Lol, here I was imagining you with brushes which had their handle turned 90° ... You idea is definitely more feasible. Thanks for the tip, and excellent work as always! Love the little gothic arch on the top platform

Yep, that's how I do tarps and similar things too.

Amazing! Although, how do you get paint to stick and not peel off of the granny grating when flexed?

Curiously I own some brushes that are meant to work exactly in such confined spaces...and indeed they are bent on purpose...
What's so cool with cam's way tho is that I am not even able to apply real wallpaper...so now imagine wriggling something so small in a mere small tube... and we are not allowed to call him a wizard... Automatically Appended Next Post: Also...the ring on the tubes ends are currently my favorite details...with these you literally framed your canvas!

I keep reading Necromunda Scenery as Necromundery. it should probably be necromundancy.
I had some brushes like that once, Vik. Didn't like them.
Yeah, the ring frames are just the thing.
Very modern stairs. Maybe not quite the right look? That granny grating make for perfect scaffold material, eh?
Everything looks so good. And so quickly. Too quickly. I'm growing suspicious. You've been cloned, haven't you? That hospital stay wasn't about any broken bones at all...

Thanks all. Truly flattered and honoured by praise from people I look up to and inspire me.
@Dave, yup will be casting that as soon as supplies arrive.
Point of order here, I would like to say though I have been using the tarp method for a long time, many have done it before and, indeed, have done it much better. Ruglud did an excellent piece a few LoER comps back, with a pallet and crates covered in tarp, same method if memory serves. But I like to put these general ideas out there, again and again for new peeps and to jog the memory of some. Many of my techniques are not original, I really should make more of an effort to cite the origins.
Now pics, was not feeling great today so not much done. Started on this...
And sorted the tarps for the boxes, these are not fixed as yet.
Thank you for looking and stopping by.

Looking great as always Cam. It's great seeing that piece in all it's glory. I like the way you painted the tarps to make them look weathered. Also, I've been going through old LoER comps and enjoying them. I just got to the one where you made bamboo, that was so cool and creative! Awesome that you thought of that, I'm going to have to check if there are that kind of earbuds for sale near me. (It feels funny calling them that, where I'm from it would be cuetip/cotton swab and tooth pick rather than earbud and cocktail stick. Though those names do make a lot of sense)

'Mind The Step' Good one.
I don't think of the denizens of the underhive to be particularly safety conscious.
Impressive. Good size. That Aquila needs some graffiti. Of course your average ganger would tag it.

This is looking fantastic Cam,
The graffiti, the detailed interiors, the skulls for the plinth everything is coming together to make an epic piece!
The "Run U Fools" graffiti is my favourite due to how many references are within it

That's really taking it to the next level Cam! I mean, I was impressed by the basic structure, but now your 're really adding to it even more, evocating a dilapidated appartment block in a very 'realistic' way. I love how your attention to detail breathes life into models.

Wow, every piece you add on adds so much character. I should really learn, and I've only been around for some of your latest projects, but it's always the same:
"Ohh wow Cam's new thing is amazing. That looks great! Wonder what he'll do next"
2 days later:
"What? He added that *insert thing* and it looks ten time better! I'd never have thought of that!"
3 hours later:
"How did he do all those amazing things so quickly??!!!"

 Thank you all.
Not a great day today, spent 6 hours back in hospital, one of the internal stitches became infected, ended up with a zit the size of a tennis ball on my leg, went in, they cut it, removed the offending item, and drained it and I am now the happy recipient of a large amount of anti-biotics to be consumed over the next week. The joys. Have to say, amazing service again thank you NHS.
So not much done today ...
Thank you all for your amazing support, thanks for looking.

What a terrific piece, Cam! Very Fritz Lange 'Metropolis' feel to it. Necromunda terrain but with a distinctly unique character.
With the eagle bit, it actually reminds me of the Niagara-Mohawk building in Syracuse, New York State!

That head looks amazing! Did you seriously make it out of that super clay? How did you sculpt and keep such great detail?
72556
Post by: Red Harvest
The panels. Lose the skulls! Yes that is an exclamation point. Put an aquila in the center of the panel instead, and maybe some sort symbols in the lower corners.
Apart from my dislike for skulls as an aesthetic element, the skulls don't fit the motif of the piece. The aquilas will.

Post by: Dr H
Keep up the great work, Cam'.
I think you should make a giant Aquila entirely from skulls, just for Red'. Or even better, a giant skull from skulls... and paint it red just to really get his eye twitching
But yeah, he has a good idea of doing some non-skull versions of those panels. It's a good blank canvas to do all kinds of things with.

Doc, when did you take up residence under a bridge?
Looking at the packaging for the super clay, I think I can say what finally happened to Clippy (Y'all remember clippy, no? )p
Looks like he signed his organ donor* card, died, and his eyes were harvested and transplanted into that star shaped entity. Descanse en Paz Clippy, you most hated of Microsoft creations.

Wow! That is perhaps the best Necromunda terrain I've seen - the round pipe tunnels evoke the idea that it is supposed to be taking place basically in a city's basement, the weathering is top notch, and the graphiti looks great, fits the gang theme, and adds tons of interest. LEDs though, that is just showing off. : )

Thank you guys and LOL.
OK this is for you Vik. Bit sad to be honest but hey....
Take some foam core, and cut out shapes to "layer" a 3D effect.
Stick them together ...and carve to assist the shape.
Then attack it with your hot glue gun, I drag the tip of the gun through the glue to form a texture.
A lick of paint and ...
Hope that helps Vik. Just a little practice and some thought and all sorts of things are possible. can't really claim any originality to this, think the first time I saw it was DM Scotty. It is durable enough, but if you really want it to last more than a few years of hard play, maybe consider casting it in resin.
Had a bit of a downer day today, did not get much done, back at it tomorrow.
