Hey Everyone,

I'm looking to create a Group of mature Torontonians that can meet up once or twice a month and play Warhammer 40K. These meeting will take place at different clubs of our choosing so we can find a permanent place to game.

I'm 32 years old, I live in Scarborough. I drive, so I can meet anywhere in the GTA. My weekends are usually free. I have two friends who also play. One is in North York, the other is on the west end on Lansdowne.

I've been talking to other players using Gmail Chat (all other chats are blocked here at work). If you have a Gmail account and would like to chat Warhammer40k send me a PM. I also have a Facebook group. But like I said it is blocked so I can not check it until the evenings.

Warhammer 40K - Toronto

I'd like to set up the first meeting for sometime mid Jan.

If interested please reply with your location in the GTA and a little about you.

Well since you drive, if Brantford is not to far for you let me know. I can host at my home, or there is a club I play at where terrian is provided for and lots of room.

I live in Hamilton and I have a bunch of people I play against here on a regular basis. There is also a 40K League starting up in January that will have several conferances in Southern Ontario( the 'test' league for this just finished a few weeks ago, it went well with a fairly good turnout. The website is http://minileagues.com/home.html. I suggest you check it out if you have time.

Thanks Spud for offering up your place. But for the first few meetings should be more public. I like my kidneys LOL

Thanks Davor but Brantford is a bit out of the way for a game. Maybe if I can get a weekend away from 'The old crow', we can set something up, but right now I'm looking in the GTA

Thanks Thaanos, I just heard of it today. Wayne from Dueling Grounds sent me a message telling me about it. Supposedly Dueling Grounds is one of the Division Hosts. So I might check that out.

As for my facebook group I got some responses as well. So I would like to get started and setup the first event. But i need to know when everyone is available and who wants to go.

I know I'm good every Saturday normally 8am to 4pm guaranteed. As for other days I can work it out. (sundays are good only if it's okay with 'The Battleaxe' lol) During the week, I work till 6pm.

So, no matter my schedule, Please If your interested then send me PM with your schedule for the month of Jan. Then I'll set up an event and we can work out all the details

Time: Saturday, January 15, 2011 · 10:30am - 3:00pm

Location: Games Workshop 3251 Yonge Street, Toronto, ON

I created a meeting for the 15th of Jan. I chose the Yonge GW location because it is centralized. The Time, Date and Location can all be changed. This first meeting will be mostly to get to know other players in the GTA. GW has a few tables so we can have a few pick up games. We will need to discuss how many points to bring. During this meeting we can setup regular meetings, games, our own tournaments, army swaps and trades and any Warhammer 40k!

I don't mean to hijack this thread? but I live in Scarborough in Toronto and would love to get in some more Fantasy games - any of you guys play fantasy too? I usually play at Hero's World because they have good tables/scenery and great staff. If anyone wants to play games there or extend the group to include fantasy then I would definitely be down for that.

The OP stated that he wants to make this about 40k. There's no harm in starting your own topic about Fantasy if you want but hijacking his really isn't cool.

I agree with bunker, please keep it to 40k
If you are interested in Fantasy, Spud has started up a thread http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/331137.page If he is up for it he can manage the FB and I can manage 40k

I just gave GW on yonge a call and I reserved the 2 tables in the back. They are having a LotR tournament that day but the tables in the back will be free. They open at 10am. So I think the best time to meet would be around 10:30-11am

So far guest list from Dakka will be:

Bunker
Exodusofman
Styrofoam04 (myself) - I can bring 1500pts
and a few others from FaceBook (not sure if they are on Dakka)

If you want to come and are not on the list send me a PM

exodusofman wrote:as i said on the fb page idk if ill be able to play a game as im just picking up 40k again after a small break but meeting members and watching some games is something im down for

np the first meeting will mostly be about meeting new players, So the games will be mostly pick up, nothing really setup.

tmac wrote:Hey im from scarborough, i used to game a lot , just got back into it. So let me know if anything is going down in scarborough

There are a few other players in Scarborough, but not many places to meet (only STC I believe). So If transportation is a problem I have np car pooling to these events.

On that note if you drive and are willing to car pool please send me a pm.

MechaEmperor7000 wrote:@ Bunker: The staff at Heavy Support treated me pretty well, what happened with you?

First time a tournament was canceled without any notice. A friend and I drove down from North York to play and were turned away for a Magic tournament, despite their calendar saying there was a 40k tournament and me calling two days prior to confirm this. Ended up going to GW Langstaff and having a much better time

Second time we went in for a pickup game with each other and were asked to vacate our table for two regulars who wanted to play.

Needless to say they will never be getting my business.

Toronto WH40K @ 2011/01/06 03:24:12

Post by: Davor

I am surprised at this. I didn't think Heavy Support would have done this. That is a little shocking.

Then again, I haven't been there in 2 years, so maybe management changed or they did I guess. I would never think they would have done such a thing.

Toronto WH40K @ 2011/01/06 05:16:38

Post by: MechaEmperor7000

I doubt management will change since it always seems to be that guy that lives in the apartment above the store. However, I wouldnt put it past him to do something like that. I think the guy is more of a Magic Fan than a 40K fan. He can get a bit irritating at times tho. I only buy from him because he's the cheapest source (Maelstrom's prices are better, but the customs kills me).

Hey dudes. I mostly go to Langstaff GW, and I am always looking for a game of 40k. I play Chaos Space Marines, ranging from 1000-2000 points. I will be there tomorrow at around 2 or 3pm.

I sometimes go to Yonge and Lawrence, when I feel like riding the TTC, or when I meet someone there.

Unless I'm passed out cold on the Eglington bus, look for me around 1230-1245. Won't be able to stay long though.

You guys will get a sneak peak at my WIP Chaplain. I came up with a totally badass Crozius for him.

Edit: Unless the snow lets up within the hour, I wont be making it. Too long to get across Eglington in this weather, then have to get home to get some sleep.

Hey np Wolf, no one else (other then Bunker and I) made it as well. I almost didn’t make it myself. I lost control of the car on an onramp and almost ploughed through the guard rail. I was saved by a little curb.

Anyway, I got to the GW around 11:30am and met Bunker for the first time. We had a game of Capture and Control. I haven’t played that many games and never played Capture and Control before, but I have to say, I had a lot of fun.

In the first two turns of the game, I was a bit worried. I had two immobilized Rhinos blocking my path and I was bottle necked, my defilers all exploded, he was advancing and two speeders deep striked behind my lines. At this point I knew that winning was out of my grasp. But I held my ground and destroyed all contesting units for the Draw!

Bunker is a great opponent. He is patient, helpful and fun. If anyone is looking for a great game, then Bunker's the guy you want!

I would like to set up a second meet (hopefully better weather), sometime either the end of Jan. or the beginning of Feb. I am open to suggestions on when and where?

Places that I know of:
1. GW Yonge St
2. GW Scarborough Town Center
3. GW Langstaff
4. Heroes World
5. Heavy Support
6. Duelling Grounds

Wolf, This weekend might be too early to set up a meeting, but if you want a game, we can work it out. I think i'm free Sat. I have a 1750 list still in the car! lol
But so far the weekend of Feb. 12 sounds good for me.

I think we are set for the next meet to be on Feb. 12th. But a location has not been set. Last time we met at the Yonge street GW. I'd like to try someplace different and move it around the GTA. So far Wolf would like to go to 1,2 or 6. Unless anyone else votes for a location (majority rules) we are going to meet up with him. I will also put up a posting on the Facebook group for those that are not on Dakka, tonight.

Places that I know of and their maps are linked:
1. GW Yonge St
2. GW Scarborough Town Center
3. GW Langstaff
4. Heroes World
5. Heavy Support
6. Duelling Grounds

The location will be set by this Friday.

No problem, Its not easy tho, Its hard to get people to meet, alot of maybes and no input. If one new person makes it then I'm happy

As for Sat. I think Wolf is bringing 1000pts. So I'll be making a 1000pt list as well. I still have my 1750 pt list from the last meeting and i'll be bringing that too. I have a total of 3500 pts but the highest I've played is 2500pts. So if you have a request I'm up for it

As for Valentine's Weekend, Does she really need a whole Weekend! lol I'm lucky, 'The Old Crow' is working both days!

I just called GW Yonge St. and reserved the back two tables if needed. There are no events taken place so if more tables are needed it wont be much trouble

Since you're all Toronto gamers I'd like to pimp out a big 40k tournament that I am running.

www.conquesttoronto.com

We are running a 40k doubles tournament Saturday April 9th, 2011.

It will be a one day event, and we will be playing 4 games.

Each player brings 1000pts, and they essentially get half the force organization chart to play with. Visit the site for full details.

Cost of entry is $70 for the team before March 15th, and $80 afterwards.

We've got a huge selection of Forge World kits as prizes.

We had a blast at the first Conquest and he hope to have an even better time the second time around.

Even if you can't go, if you could read through our Player's Package and play some scenarios and provide feedback, that would be greatly appreciated.

Hope to see you all there!

Clarence and the Conquest Team

P.S: Some players are coming by this Thursday Feb 11th to get some playtesting in. If you guys are free you should definitely stop by GW Langstaff Square around 5:00PM.

I have to say the 2nd meet went very well. I met a great bunch of players and had a really great game against 'More Dakka' and his Orks. I never faced a horde army before so I was a bit overwhelmed. But I managed to wipe out majority of his army at the cost of the majority of mine, for the tie.

'More Dakka' is a well informed and experienced player. I had alot of fun and can't wait to play him again. I highly suggest you challenge him to a game.

Unfortunately, I was unable to have a 2nd game with the other players, mostly due to introductions. Both 'Wolfshadow' and 'CGBSpender' are a great bunch of guys and they had a pretty good game.

Now, I can not play every week, but some of you can. I will be adding admins to the Facebook group so that they can create more events I will be also posting them here as well with the corresponding host.

It looks like we are building a pretty good group and I hope to meet new players. In time we can probably hold our own tournaments.

Im there most thursdays. But I have been looking for other places to go that play at higher points level. Everyone there plays at 1500 and is really hard pressed to go any higher. I would much prefer to do 1850 or even 2k

Might take you up on that this week if you're around.

I have some Thursday's open, but for most of the consensus is that weekends are better.

Also we're looking to meet up at different places since that GW isn't convenient for everyone.

Not sure if anyone is interested, but over here in Brantford, we are going to have a small tourney for the club. Entry fee is $10.

I can get more information if people are interested. It's more for fun than competition though.

Hey, cool. I play at Heroes World.

They're my comic shop, and it's their fault I'm now playing 40k.

We're doing a 1000pt starter league, Thursdays and Sundays, where every unit must be different (no multiple Kabalyte units, for example).

So far, I am terrible at this game.

It's a starter league, to learn the rules first.

Personally, I like the restrictions. It means I don't have to buy eight Ravagers to have a chance.

Hey all i've been following this thread for a bit now and i may be in the city sometime in march (and may be moving down that way after that).
Has any thoughts yet been given to a March meet-up?
Where i'll be i can get to the GW at Young/Lawrence, Dueling Grounds, & Heavy Support with ease.
If there is let me know, it'll be great to have a game and meet a few more from Dakka

I played at Heroes World a few times. I like it there but it's not easy to get to unless you drive. The other problem is that I find it hard to set up a game on a night thats not dedicated to WH40k, (Sat. for instance) as it can get busy with other events.

OK So here's the deal for this Saturday (Feb 19th):

Place: Two Headed Dragon

http://www.twoheadeddragon.com/

It's on Yonge 2 blocks south of North York Center station, and there is parking near by IIRC.

Time: 1:00 PM (from when they open) until we're sick of playing (they close at 10:00PM).

I've booked us two 6x4 tables.

@ CGBSpender: I've got my 1750 Orks list all hammered out, so get ready for some Whaaagh!

@ Everyone: Let me know if you're coming here or on Facebook between now and Sat.

Wrong on all three counts. Store is right off the 400, only one bus ride from Wilson station, has three 6x4 tables, and Clarence will most likely reserve at least two tables if he doesn't have any store events that day and we ask with enough notice.

Used to be there every other Saturday. Now I only go if I have a game planned.

On a second note, could the next meeting location be put to a vote, or at the very least a little bit of discussion? Finding out four days before a meeting that its at a place that nobody has even mentioned before makes it difficult to want to attend.

**edit part 3**

Styrofoam04 and I were talking earlier, and we thought that we might try having 2 meetups in March. That way, if someone can't make one, they aren't waiting a whole month for us to get together again.

We were thinking that if we do start this two meeting per month schedule, we would do one at a GW and one at an LGS, that way ...if people (like myself) have a preference of one venue over another, we can attend one meetup and skip the other.

The dates for March that we're going with are the 5th and the 26th. We've selected GW Langstaff for the 5th, and baring the manager having issue with us asking for a table or two, this will be set. We are still unsure about the location for the 26th meetup, but I believe that Styrofoam04 has an idea for that so I'll let him fill everyone in when he gets a chance.

Sounds good to me! I want to get to know the LGSs in Toronto and surrounding better.

I'm also looking forward to meeting you guys and getting more games in!

That being said *plug plug*:

This Saturday Saturday Saturday! Be There (Two Headed Dragon 1:00pm)! And If you're not there you better be dead, or in jail and if you're in jail then BREAK OUT!!!!

Sorry for making a second game in 2 weeks up in north Toronto, but I've been there before and it's right on the subway line, so it was choice #1 on short notice.

As Bunker stated I'm looking to set up 2 meets in March. One on the 5th and the other on the 26th. I really liked Bunker's Idea of having one at a GW and one at an LGS. I chose the GW Langstaff Store as it is Bunker's "home" store and he has all but good things to say about it, and it seems that Mafty also has an interest in the store.

Now that being said, I called the store and spoke to Clarence (who is on Dakka and posted here about the dbls tourney in April). He says that he is having a four week event in the month of March and that the best day would be on the 5th. His event will take up the painting table and one gaming table. But for one hour around 1pm he will need all of the tables.

If we decide to go there the store opens around 10am we can get a quick game and at 1pm we can grab a bite and get better acquainted. After lunch we can get a few more games in. Or we can just meet at the store around 1pm get and get acquainted (last game we spent a good hour just talking). Then when the tables are free, get on to gaming. The store closes at 7pm, so we can get good 2 games in. (depending on points)

Transportation shouldn't be much of an Issue. Like Bunker stated it is 1 bus from Wilson Station. I drive and don't mind car pooling if you want to meet up somewhere.

This is not set in stone, March 5th is 3 weeks away. Suggestions welcome.

As for the 26th I was hoping to work it around Skarshak

I drive as well. Like I said earlier, I goto the yonge/lawerence store every thursday. Its a great store. 6 tables. Lots of people. But it seems no one will play above 1500 points, and it does get tiring playing the same 4-5 people every week. (as im sure theyre tired of playing me as well lol). Ive wanted to check out the langstaff store for variety, and id love to find a good FLGS. two-headed dragon seems good to me, never been so Id check it out.

Yeah...technically I close at 7. However, as long as gamers wants to play, I'll hang around after my shift. I live not too far away from the shop and I have no problem hanging around longer. Gasp, I can keep myself busy by painting models or playing games then!

About the small Tourney that will be held in Brantford, from what I gather it's 1000 points, and $10 to join. I think the prize is 50/50 50% to the winner the other 50% to the club to help pay for the rent.

It looks like it's mostly for fun because I refused to go in at first, but now that it's more for fun I will partake in it. So I guess if you are a real serious tournament player it may to be for you. There will be two or 3 maybe 4 rounds depending on how much time is left.

I will try and get more info.

By TTC:
Go to either Wilson or York Mills Station, get on the 165 D and get off at Langstaff. Walk in towards the Cora's. GW is right next door. Also remember that you'll need to pay extra fare north of Steeles.

I'm limited by TTC and budget. So, depending on the state of my finances at the moment, Langstaff may be out. I listed all the ones I can make it to before. Other than being accessable by TTC, I dont really care.

on younge, just North of Lawrence station is one of the better GWs around, I see you guys are talking about being limited by TTC, well thats in the center of Toronto and is probably the best place, provided you can get around being at an actual GW, to game, since they have multiple 6 x 4 tables (no I did not read the whole thread just what my buddy linked me on msn)

Excellent. Sounds like Lawrence GW is the best candidate so far.

Hey CGB et al,

Sorry last weekend was no good for me, had to work etc.

This weekend I am free. I will call and book at least 1 table at Yonge + Lawrence.

Guys let me know who is interested in meeting Saturday morning-afternoon. I will book 2 tables if there is enough interest.

GG yesterday man!

CGB crunched me in our first match, stupid 425 pts or reinforcements that failed to arrive all game!

Anyways, lookin forward to the next match. Lets get some more peeps out for a big meeting.

I'm up for the weekend after next anywhere really (April 1st)

This will also be the weekend that Skarshak can hopefully make it as well.

Let me know who is interested and where you would like to meet. Once I get a consensus of who is coming and where they want to meet I'll call in and reserve some tables.

The Lawrence GW & Dueling Grounds are the 2 ill be closest to!

Dunno about how many tables they have there, but I do know they have a good supply of models and supplies!
Last time I was there (its been a few months) they had said they were expanding their warhammer section, so hopefully you'll find what your looking for!

They have quite a few tables. Last time I was there they ran a 14-person tournament without having space issues.

Someone may want to call and see if there's another event going on though, as I'm not so sure Wayne would be willing to give up space if he has a Magic event going on.

I'll give them a call.

So far we have:

CGB Spender
Bunker
Skarshak
anticitizen013 + a few more
Styrofoam04

I'll book us for approx 10 people (5 tables).

Anyone else interested let me know ASAP in case I need to get some more.

OK just called, very friendly staff. Guy said that we don't have to book anything, Saturday is their actual 40K day, and that we should be able to get tables no problem.

Hey no worries Anticitixzen, I have only half my models painted. we are not strict about fully painted armies.

That being said, what point limit are we going with? I have a nice 1750pt army I like to practice with.

Another note, I just remembered it is my sisters birthday, so I wont be able to stay long. Prolly only 1 game.

what are the details for this meet, time etc, I haven't looked at the Facebook group but has it been posted there? When i get home I can check and post if it is not.

I'm pretty old school in terms of how I play, so one of my things is I will never play with an unpainted army. That only applies to me of course... my opponent can do what they want as it's their hobby too!

We got there around 10:45 before they opened. As soon as we got downstairs I kept saying that the place smells like crap. We started setting up when I noticed that the drainage pipe from the gakker above was disconnected. It was pretty gross. A guy came to fix it and added an extension pipe to the trap. around that time Bunker saw a cockroach. I thought it was dead but then it move across the room. We pulled all our stuff off the floor. I ended up seeing 3 more near the back beside some boxes. It was nasty! The place is dirty. We waited till 12 before we left hoping to run in to someone. There were these magic kids who sat at the table under the "repaired" pipe, when sewage sprayed over their table. That was the last straw! We packed up our things and told the employees upstairs and they shrugged it off "oh well"

It might be best if we exchange numbers for next time. PM to the person who set up the event

Ewww!!!! If you what you say is true, that place is blacklisted.I will take your word for it. Ugh. I can't stand roaches or spraying crap. I can't believe we played there without even noticing it!

Toronto WH40K @ 2011/04/04 14:19:14

Post by: More Dakka

Yeah I didn't notice that, but regardless it was a dingy half finished basement.

You guys wanna play at Langstaff next time? I'd like to see that place still.

Toronto WH40K @ 2011/04/04 15:13:19

Post by: Styrofoam04

Ya sorry guys we had really no way to warn anyone.

Bunker and I were the first ones downstairs. I was the one that turned the lights on. It is prolly the same reason why no one else noticed the roaches. Because we were there first and waiting for others to show up, we had time to notice these things. We would have tolerated the Sanitary leak, but the roaches no way. if we came later I dont think we would have noticed these things either. I just wish we could have wared everyone.

It was very gross. The floors had caked on dirt and the bathroom looked like a nightmare! Its a shame tho Because the place looked like it had a lot of good terrain and alot of tables.

We were freaked out even after we left. I felt every itch and thought it was a roach. I will not go there again, unless I know it has been cleaned and has some sort pest control!

I feel really bad. I was looking forward to this, and meeting Skarshak for the first time.

As for the langstaff store, I don't recommend it for a large meet. Bunker and I went there after and got there around 2pm.

Right now they have 3 tables and it got pretty busy. There isn't alot of space in the store or between the tables. you are constantly bumping into someone or they are stepping over your stuff. One really fat spectator not knowing his boundaries knocked over my $7000 laptop! ... I luckily caught it by the corner before it hit the floor and before I added a murder to my record.

I have to admit that Clarence makes the store. He is very inviting, friendly, and knowledgeable. And for a small group it looks like a great place to game.

Ohh. I'd better stay outta this one.

Yes I agree. Clarence is the only one who makes that store, other than that, there really is no point in going on Saturdays. It's way too busy to get a game in. Not to mention all the little younglings running around. "Kids no parents, must be a fancy orphanage."

Weekdays are the best times to go, but he's closed on mondays and tuesdays.

Theres no issue getting a game Saturday. All you need to do is be assertive. Styrofoam and I walked in and grabbed a table right off the bat

Toronto WH40K @ 2011/04/04 23:27:49

Post by: Styrofoam04

LOL I agree with both of you. too many kids! But you can get a table. Most of the kids are dropped off to the GW babysitter. If you have a few players Then it is a good place to play, hang out and talk Warhammer. but I don't think it can handle our group (if we all manage to meet) on a Sat. The same is for Scarborough town centre.

heroes world is a good place but without a car it's too far. It doesn't really leave us many places.

Has anyone been to Heavy support? I admit I been wanting to go there for their prices. but since I bought alot from bunker I don't need anything. I have no idea their size or even if they have tables.

As for the Two headed Dragon, I know that More Dakka and CGBSpender have been there. Was it any good? Any review?

Toronto WH40K @ 2011/04/05 00:39:44

Two Headed Dragon is good.

It's a bit dingy, and really they only have 2 tables on Saturdays.

BUT

It's above ground with natural lighting, they have terrain and they're nice guys. Also the Hordes day on Saturday isn't always rammed, so by about 1:00 there were other tables available.

You would, until you think about the biggest place is Dueling Grounds, and we all know how well that store is being run.

Heavy Support is an option. It's relatively large, not cramped, near the highway, and right in front of a TTC stop.

I'd still play there, I'd just never give them money for anything, ever.

Some other options:

Tuesday evenings at Meeplemart, but it's a pretty small crowd of people who know each other well, for now. You can check out their website online. It's also open Thursdays and Sundays. It's mainly a webstore run out of a nice airy loft in Leslieville, but they are open those three days for gaming. There's usually a lot of board gamers out too, so sometimes table space can be an issue.

I like Heavy Support as well, and there's also X Planet near a 403 exit in Mississauga, which has some 6 or 8 tables downstairs and 4 half-size tables at ground level.

So Styrofoam04 and I ended up playing 1750 pts at Heavy Support.

Good store, lots of tables and good terrain. Overall it was clean and well lit and the guy on staff was friendly.

We had a great time and I'd would definitely play there again.

Only real issue is that at Queensway and Islington it's a bit out of the way for some, but let's be honest, we all live across the city from one another, so every place is far for someone.

blood angel player just moved here, play range 1200-2500. Available if given heads up, friendly, semi-competitive and willing to do tourneys.

Near UofT campus

Toronto WH40K @ 2011/04/18 14:40:29

Post by: Styrofoam04

Welcome Hazal. We try to meet at least once or twice a month. But we also have alot of pick-up games. Feel free to set one up if you like.

More Dakka and I had a really great pick up game on Sat. He cleaned my clock. His Kan wall killed every last Corsair. I didn't stand a chance. I think I only had one kill point, I got it with my last squad. I had no where to go or run. So I rushed them up and popped a can with my meltas. then on his turn he wiped them out with out a scratch. Great game tho. I need to learn to counter his strategy.

As for Heavy Support. I loved it!. It was CLEAN, spacious and no kids. We had an uninterrupted game. A few onlookers, who complemented on our armies (well mostly Dakka's but can you blame 'em). The place has washroom and sell snacks. So you never have to leave, lol. They have alot of tables and quite a bit of terrain. The only problem I have is it takes me 30min to get there by car.

Post by: Rythem

Hello, live in brampton but most of toronto isn't out of reach for me. Play range is about 1250-2000/2500(at max) of Blood Angels, really only free on weekends unless given alot of prep time. More of a laid back player, not really interested in the waac army lists, but willing to do tournies for a good time . If this matches your groups play styles then I would be interested in getting some games in.

Toronto WH40K @ 2011/04/18 23:54:51

Post by: Styrofoam04

Welcome Rythem, That about sums us up. Our meets are about having fun a talking WH40k with mature players.

Our last game lasted a good 4 hours mostly because we were talking and swapping war stories. As for waac I dont think I ever won a game with this group, lol. I guess its my job to be the heel. The bad guy who never wins :shrugs:
So far we played a few 1000pts but mostly we play 1750pts. With my new purchase I can prolly go 4000+ points. But we try to work it out before hand.

Now for new business. lol

More dakka and I were talking, We were wondering what everyone thinks about doing a doubles game. I have never done one before. and I know other have tried but mostly stuck with some kid or had a bad experience. But that shouldn't effect us, most of us have an Idea of the other players play style. I think it could be fun.

So would any one like to do a doubles game for next month?
Say 1000pts per player. No crazy rules.

Toronto WH40K @ 2011/04/19 03:56:31

Post by: CGBSpender

I'm down for a doubles game, as long as my team mate is as evil and crazy as me .

On another note, I find fantasy to be such a spectacular symphony of fun. i know this is a 40k thread, but are there any Fantasy players here? I have 2500 points of pure undeath (Vampire Counts). You too shall serve, not even death can save you.

No roaches or spraying turd floats my boat either.

This Saturday I will be at Yonge and Lawrence cause one of the dudes who works there, Scott, is leaving, and before he goes I want to obliterate his Grey Knights.

So I'll be at YL GW this weekend.

Weekdays are a no-go for me, as I work until 7pm and I work on the Mississauga border, so by the time I get anywhere stores are closed.

On a positive note, my army will be ordered by this week so should be in and fully painted by the end of May. If people don't mind fighting a grey/partially painted legion, I'm up for playtest games most weekends.

Toronto WH40K @ 2011/04/25 03:32:58

Post by: Rythem

I have no problems playing against an unpainted army, even some proxy is alright if your trying something out before buying. I'm probably looking at a free friday night or saturday if anyone is interested in a game this weekend coming up, Heavy Support is closest to me plus parking is nice, though haven't played there yet so can't say what the conditions are.

Weekdays are hard for me do to work as well. weekends I can only do once maybe twice a month.

So any Ideas for next month meetings? Do we want to try doubles? or keep it singles for little while?

Looks like we have a few new players. Most of us play on the weekends (mostly Sat.) If you have any suggestions for a weekend event feel free to post when you available or send a PM

If you are available on weekdays please post as well, so others that want to set up an event can ask. I might post on the first page when people are available. Either it be weekends or weekdays

After the May long weekend I'll be available Sundays as well.

Don't really care about doubles or singles, so long as we know what the rules are for doubles (abilities covering allies, etc)

Yes This group is still going strong, and welcome. So far no Official dates have been set for May. but feel free to post your event. Try to give at least a week notice or more and you should get more players.

I might be able to have a game on the 21st or the 28th. As for places there are only two I like for a large group, and that is Heavy Support and GW on Yonge.

New players are more then welcome, but bare in mind that we are a mature crowd and looking for mature players for fun games. So far out of the players I met none of us are the WAAC type and I believe we would like to keep it that way. I dont mean to sound harsh but we are more about the hobby and having a good time, then 'winning' and drinking Tiger blood.

If you are having a game this weekend and you meet up with people from this forum. let us know how it went.

Its hardly optional, it's mathematically impossible to win if you don;t follow their silly comp rules

Plus, 95$ to win a trophy that makes me the best Astronomi-hammer player for 2011 is a total waste of my time and money. I can have one of my Godkids make me one that says the same thing for free, and it will mean more to me.

Hello, I'm new to Toronto and definately interested in joining your group and meeting up with some people to play 40k. I live near Bloor+Kipling and am 21 years old, but do not have a car so Heavy Support would be my preferred meeting location. I posted in the facebook group. If anyone would be interested in meeting me for a match I'd also be interested, feel free to message me on here or facebook. I'm available evenings and weekends.

Welcome Guis, We are aways looking for new players. That being said Creeping-deth87 sent me a PM and He and His friends are good to meet on the 28th.

The 28th seems good for me as well. Is anyone else interested?

As for the place, I prefer Yonge Gw or Heavy Support. But I guess it depends on space or events that weekend.

I going to try out my army using the SW codex. Should be interesting

If you weren't aware, according to Heavy Support's website they are hosting a 40k tournament on the 28th, 1500 points. I have no idea how big their tournaments are(or if they even happen, because apparently no one shows up to their open 40k nights on Wednesday). I don't know how you feel about tournaments, but it might be fun to all show up there, and would be good practise for Astronomicon for any who are going.

Hi

Just moved back to Toronto, and I am happy to find this group. I have been a WHFB player for awhile, and am just beginning to branch out into 40K. Definitely not a WAAC player :-).

I don't think I can make it out on the 28th, but I will watch the list and try to make it out to something in June.

Any chance you folks play WHFB as well as 40k ?

Sorry guys but I might not be able to make it tomorrow. I need to do a Job for my Dad. If I finish early I head down there. If others are still interested. I know that Built-in WILL be there. The back tables are reserved and he will get there around 12pm

Welcome Dru

let us know when you are available to play in June and we will set up an event around it

As for fantasy I believe there are a few players. I know Spud started a thread but I don't think it went anywhere I posted the link earlier in this thread.

Well, Hazel and I played today, there were lots of great looking armies there today. We played 1750, and I won by a hair. 10 - 9 in a kill point game, I stole a kill point on a transport at the end of turn 5, and rolled a one for random game ending. In the end The blood angels FnP and Blood Talons just wasn't enough for the Swarm.

and he won the 500 point game we played after

Styrofoam, I'm 30 and looking for the mature kind of gaming group you were planning on forming.

This goes for anyone starting a gaming group - give me a PM.

I'm in the 401 & Yonge area, but I have a car.

Welcome Atomic Rooster
You found the right group. I've met a many a players because of this Thread.
Currently we mostly play either at Heavy Support (my favorite) or GW on yonge. As of late most games have been pick up games, due to summer scheduling.
If there is a date you have in mind for a game let me know and I'll set it up. If you want a pick up game just post here and gamers will come

I work just south of Yonge and 401, but alas my car is wreaked. So I haven't been able game much.
I just come across an Sabol Armored Company it is huge! So I've been thinking of taking it to work on the TTC and setting up a weekly gamenight
I was thinking of heading to either GW yonge or HS after work
HS is open weekdays until 9pm and GW is the same for Thursday and Friday

If anyone is interested in this Idea let me know.

I will be at Heavy Support on Sunday. Meeting a new player. He has a small army of around 800pts.

Does anyone ever play at Dueling Grounds? Not that Heavy Support isnt awesome, DG just has a larger gaming area.

We did back in the spring, and it was filthy.

Check out pages 1-4 of this thread I think that's where you will find a synopsis of what went down.

If they get around to cleaning the place up and spraying for roaches I'll be up for a game there, the space was quite large and they had good terrain (plus it's the closest place to my house).

More Dakka said it all, that place is disgusting. The floor has never been washed since the place opened, i dont even want to know the last time the bathroom was cleaned. I've seen cleaner Outhouses and less bugs too.

Heavy support is really clean! The owner is really nice and helpful and the greatest reason is ... I have never seen a single Ginger Kid there ever!

On that note Toronto 40K does not condone the mistreatment of Ginger kids, more specifically it is THE Ginger kid who we all fear. (You know who I mean, yes THAT kid!)

Thank you for the accurate waver More Dakka

"Toronto 40K does not condone the mistreatment of Ginger kids" Just the one with the million questions who's been spotted in FLGS all over the GTA

Finished?! you have an IG army you'll never be finished! Muster up some points and play. 90% of my guys dont have heads, ask around. I'm the guy who plays the headless, traitor, traitor, Chaos, Space Wolf, Red Corsairs. (who one time forgot 3 rhinos at home and played with folded paper instead)

One day I'll finish too.

As golf season winds down I will be getting back to playing more games of 40K.

Prepare to have your armies scattered and driven before me, while I hear the lamentations of your women.

My son is a red head, and he was teased and kicked because of it. I do not find it funny at all guys.

I live an hours drive away from you guys. Why it shows me as an American, I am not sure.

Not sure if anyone in this thread would be interested as it's closer to Mississauga but I figured I might as well post here. X-planet games(http://xplanet.ca/) is running an 8 week campaign followed by a tournament. The details are on their facebook page if you're interested. 1250 for the first 4 weeks, then 1750, no painting required and you can change your list/army every week. The campaign starts this Thursday so register before that if you're interested.
