Hey Guys!
My name's Matt, and I have decided to run a blog showing all the updates, progression, and painting of my current Ultramarines force, I hope you enjoy looking at this stuff as much as I enjoy creating it!
I figured i'd start with some photographs of recent miniatures for comparative purposes and to give a taste of how my skills develop over the course of the blog's 50+ pages After that it goes right back to the old stuff *shudders*. To me, the paintwork becomes respectable around page 27.
Lipsdapips
P.S. Please excuse the immature nature of most of my early commentary...I was thirteen when I started up this blog :( It gets ironed out as I grow up, grow some sense and grow an appreciation for constructive criticism

Well, lipsanpips, nice stuff, jawa's fists are looking good and your lightning effect on captain number 1 is executed well, I also like your kneeling libby. great work so far you obviously have a passion for the space marines...keep going

@nerdfest09 Thanks alot! I certainly love SMs, and am planning on making a command squad through kit-bashing tons of different sets (i'll obtain the parts required through bits sites).
You see it's been my ambition to have a command squad with sanguinary guard 'chesty' torsos and SM commander capes, and cool combinations of BA & GK legs, and assorted helms.
I can just picture them now, it'd be sweet. But it'll be a while before I can get this because I'm short on money at the mo'
thanks for the feedback,

Yo dude looks good. With the Imperial Fists i think the white extreme highlighting is a bit strong tho, i think it should be little thinner or use a lighter yellow instead of straight to white.

I liked the style that Jawaballs put on those fists, different and cartoony, thanks for the tip though!

UPDATE:
If any of you have read my command squad loadout thread, you'd know that i'm going to try and make an 'aesthetically superior' command squad, which was successfully ordered today!
Since the bits site was in america, and im in NZ, it'll probably be anywhere between 1-2 weeks, maybe even a month! But when it arrives, i'll be sure to update you all on anything that happens.
In the meantime, though, I modelled another plastic libby and a plastic chaplain (whom i need to paint over) and started work on 2 veteran sgts for my 'list' and will update you on these until my command squad arrives.
I also modelled some placeholders for my command squad (they're just dry fitted with the shields and helmets im using so I know where they are when the squad arrives ) and I modelled on that looking cool, sort of a 'landing' pose, and thought I'd show you.
Lastly, I made an Iron halo for my RB/ SS Captain from chopping the top off a Nemisis Warding Staff and snipping here and there, and i'll show you what he looks like in the next update (if I remember )
pics below, enjoy.

UPDATE
I've painted 3 of the 4 veteran helmets i'll be using today.
I had 3 GK helmets left from a box set i bought you see, so this explains why I have them now, as oppose to the rest of the command squad. Im using the 3 GK helmets and the BA death company helmet that looks similar.
Also included are the captain with iron halo pics.

Command squad update:
I finished the last of the veterans helmets today. Sorry I couldn't do much, i basecoated the 2 tac squad sgts, but theres not much point posting pics of that
nonetheless, I just need to wait for the parts to arrive before full operations can commence on this Command squad
Till then!

Someone's painting's getting better! :-) I can actually see your progress as you paint more! really liking the vet helmets and the lenses you did are great too! the chaplain you kit bashed is really cool! have you been on the combat company for the bits you're after? I only buy my stuff from them now!
21254
Post by: lipsdapips
@nerdfest I was checking out the combat company, and they had the majority of the bits I needed, for a great price, but they didn't some some crucial bits I needed at the time like the apothecary parts, and some of the torsos, but when they have stock, ill sure a heck be there, way cheaper then the warstore!
P.S thanks for the compliments about my painting. It was a real challenge painting the eyes on all four of those veterans because the grate-things cut off some of the angles that I normally paint eyes from, leading me to have to do several minor touch ups, which surprising turned out to be almost invisible, much to my delight
Thanks again

Can't say i'm a fan of the liberal sprinkling of other Chapter's iconography throughout. By all means use the BA and SW bits etc. but remove the blood drops and stuff, it just detracts from the integrity of the army IMO.
It is, the one turd in the candy basket however as on the whole they look very nice.
21254
Post by: lipsdapips
@Grimtuff as true as what your saying is, I generally have 2 issues with removing iconography from other chapters
which are
1. I struggle when it comes for filing/removing icons, as I always tend to leave small marks, making the model look worse then before
and 2. I find the fact that the kits come with these parts nice, and what's so different if an ultramarine has a blood drop on his backpack or arm? I think it makes an army stand out. But after all it all burns down to opinion.
But thanks for your comments. I appreciate it

I also did another Catattafish styled power weapon in preparation for my incoming command squad. (im going to do all my power weapons like this from now on)

Hey all
Did more work on the sgts, just need to do gold on the shoulder pads, and their backpacks. This is where I have a problem. I don't like painting gold, the method I use is Scorched Brwon, Dwarf Bronze then Shining Gold. This can be extremely tedious and can take a long time, especially when doing shoulder pads, and it usually ends up coming out uneven and blochy. do you guys have any advice? im not sure what to do about it, I can't water the paint down, it comes out even worse. (and before you ask, i'm rubbish at nmm )
i've been doing some work on terrain recently, I have an imperial strongpoint that needs working on. I don't have any airbrushes though, so I can't paint anything major without using lots of GW paints :\. Ah well. (pics below)
I did some work on 4 winged shoulder pads in anticipation for the command squad, but they didnt fit on the minis, and they didn't look to good. I'll use 'em for something else. They took alot of time so I have to use them somewhere! (pics below)
anyway, the pics include the sgts, some examples of my gold, and my next project: (probably, or atleast until the command squad comes) and termie squad!

@Nerdfest09 i'm going to try get some picture organised somewhere . Problem is, my display board is nowhere to be found since I moved house. I'll try find it somewhere.
anyway, on to the big update.
THE COMMAND SQUAD ARRIVED TODAY! I was delighted when I checked my mailbox and saw the package in there, about 1 week earlier then I had expected. So predictably, after some non- 40k stuff, I got straight into it. So far what i've got are basecoats / foundations of the 1st veteran, who has a power axe and a SS. He's going to look great! I also modelled a body with the sanguinary guard torso and fitted the apothecary vials and puches onto the side. Came out quite nicely for an amatuer modeller like me
but without further ado,

Gotta say that I personally like pose 3 for the Shrike 'counts as' whilst the there is nothing wrong with the other 2 poses they are fairly generic and you see lots of them, you dont see many like pose 3 which is a pity, you get the feeling that if he fires his jump pack someone is getting impaled at high speed.
Just one other thing, there is a little bit of mold lines/flashing on that model, I trust that will be cleaned prior to painting, nothing worse than seeing a really nice model with obvious mold lines it can spoil the overall effect.
That being said there are some really cool ideas there, keep it up

Small update [very small ]
@Asylum_Inmate I do agree, I was fond of both the 1st and 3rd poses, and realise now that the fisrt one is pretty generic and the 3rd is pretty badass so i'll go with it.
@Wazzdig Dagga Thanks! One of my favourite things about the hobby is the kitbashing you can do!
Anyways the small update is that i'm changing the termie honours shoulder pad on the apothecary because it'll be on the wrong side. Nothing major, the apothecary shoulder needs to go there, for obvious reasons, he's still been a termie before!!

Nice work LDP! really like your chaplain, it's funny but I just swapped the head on my ven dread for that exact helmet today! great minds dude, great minds! I think it looks a touch more sinister without being too chaos-y? the vets are looking good as well, I like the way you're doing the helmets they look really nicely done and gritty! if you can perservere and get all the armour as good looking then you'll definitely have a force that wouldn't look out of place on any battlefield! keep it up dude, you know we'll be watching!

The feathers on the wing look like they could do with another layer or a sharp highlight to bring them out a bit.
Those helmets on the other hand - the weathering and freehand are quite impressive though I'm not 100% sure about the orange - perhaps darkening it a tone or two?

Nice army, I like how you're combining kits and will definitely try some of these when get round to my Tyrannic War 1st Company. I do like how you paint power weapons, and it's good to see how your white paint technique has developed over the project.

Thanks Lindsay! I do like the way I paint white, with all the thick black lines, but the truth is, I USEEE ASTRONOMICAN GREEYYYY It's not actually white - but hey, it all follows the sort of "Darker" scheme of my Ultras.

Hey guys,
today I batch painted the captain and command squad chest eagles and details.
I did the captains targeter and eyes too, which I though came out quite nicely. I did my quicker method for painting "cheagles" (chest eagles), which was to paint it all in one, not each individual feather followed by a heavy, controlled wash of devlan mud. Hope yall like it! I'm still going over poses for these guys, and am open to suggestions!!
Until then, enjoy the pics!

Actually, that's a very good idea, using Astronomican Grey for White bits. You can highlight it, and when it's painted against a blue background contrast won't make it appear to have a yellow tone (which appears dirty).

Another Update guys!!
Got all the veterans and the captain up to the stage where everything is done apart from the shoulder pads and backpacks. (I fell behind on the apothecary, which probably wasn't smart. But oh well!) all the helmets and arms and guns and all that are now glued on, and all leg/body details are finished. Hope you like what i've got so far!

The speed of this scares me. All I say though is....I can see mold lines!
And it's annoying cause I'll bet you were sure you'd got rid of them before! (I did a test Minotaur and huge one ruined it....)
But I love the poses. They seem more than natural and give an impression of weight!

Problem with removing them now is it scratches the paint off. :\

Mold lines.... ahhh the odd mold line builds character! :-) i've got a few i've missed myself but never fear! as long as they all look as good as these no one will care about them, especially when your army smashes them on the table! I hate it when i miss them too, but I just get too excited about painting so i only roughly remove them...

Hehe. Yeah to be honest I usually say screw the mold lines, most are to minor to be noticed. But of course some are larger then others, and some are even flashed, in which I do endevour to remove them (oh and I remove mold lines on an important figure like an HQ )

Hey guys
Today I couldn't get any painting done, but instead I decided to snap some pics for my entries into the next golden daemon competition (whenever it is ). But this is where i'm stuck. I have 4 models that I can't decide for/against, and i'm only allowed to enter 2.
so here's where I need your help, I need you to help me choose which models to enter. So without further ado, here are the 4 models:

I vote the Captain. No visible mold lines that I can see, a good use of bits from multiple different kids, some fancy lighting effects and a bit of different basing.

That's true! But i'm also a fan of Mallarus and the veteran!
To me it seems that the veteran probably has the best paintjob in terms of smoothness and blending etc.
but I love Aevens position and conversions,
and mallarus is well done too! I CANT DECIDE! D:

Seconding Apothecary as the second model - the white is surprisingly clean for not being white and it's a very good use of different kits, much like the captain.

Apparantly it does. I think the only thing 2-handed weapons do now is negate the +1 attack from pistols or additional ccws.
I think the actual handed-ness matters very little now. (As can be demonstrated by a Dark Angel Captain with Twin Lightning Claws, a plasma pistol and a bolt pistol - this is a legal build )

Ok guys, so i'm going to enter into the Golden Daemon competition (whenever it is):
-the Captain
-the Veteran
I think its fair to do one model from both the followers and the painter - the paintjob of the veteran is fantastic in real life, sometimes pics take away the glory

Hey lads, been a few days since I last updated, sorry about that.
Today I basecoated and washed all remaining parts for the command squad.
I also basecoated all their details black, which took a long time, and was VERY tidious!
as well as this, I 'sanded' (glued the sand on) the marines bases.
tomorrow (if I have time) I should have all the squad finished (except the apothecary, I really wish I kept him up with the batch coats of the rest, he fells behind, which is why he is unfinished - but I can use Aeven in the squad, he'll just look a little different.

Top tips for photography...
1. Use a piece of A4 and curve it upwards. E.g weight the bottom corners then place a bottle or something behind it.
2. Use macro mode on Digital Camera, don't use the flash and use a long exposure time, use a tripod or books stacked up and use the timer function.
3. Use a Desk lamp, with a Daylight bulb if possible, otherwise just as many lights as practicable and adjust the yellow light to white light in Photoshop.

Hehe thanks DSS! And jirc, the pic was taken from home, hes not in the store :|, thanks knightly! and honour to have you read the blog! FINALLLY AN UPDATE GUYS! Did feel inspired for like, a week.. until...! I saw the space marine battle company on eBay for sale for a mere $377 (NZ - $305 USD) - THATS A BARGAIN! $1008 off RRP! so as you could imagine I started to bid, but being located where I am, the bid finished at 5:20am, and I woke up just minutes late, and my autobid thingy got outbid too (which was set at $400) So, as you could imagine I was greatly dissapointed. But then I remembered my local GW had a SM strike force on their shelves, and i'm going to endevour to give them a ring and ask them to put it aside (all I know is that they had one a week and a half ago, hopefully they still do or else i'll be dissapointed again D But the home prep has been going on too, last night I moved my army away from next to where I paint to a table on the other side of the room and am going to open up the space where they were for my 'strike fofce WIP (hopefully!)' to begin, which will keep you guys entertained for probably the next couple of months So heres a few pics and stuff of whats been happening - P.S Nerdfest09 here's what the DA power sword looks like, there also a storm bolter and some legs that go with it I think if you want. thanks for all your patience, LDP

Well, I always tool my SM leaders out to get into close combat, just because A) they're going to be there eventually anyway, B) they really have the options to be pretty sick in close combat, and C) it's just the way I roll.
So, if you're going up against light infantry, I would advise either a storm bolter (my favourite, just because of the high rate of fire prior to combat) or a pistol (because, of course, of the convenient extra attack), unless you instead want to involve a power fist and a reg. initiative weapon, depending on the situation. With the weapon, really anything will tear through the light infantry, but I would go with a reg. initiative weapon just because you don't seem to be looking too much for heavy hitting, just a lot of it. If you do go with a bolter or storm bolter, you could load up with a relic blade, since those aren't going to bonus any extra attacks anyway. On the other hand, a lightning claw is good for its rerolling ability, and, if you're not needing to beat higher str opponents, it'll serve you rather well.
To this end, I would recommend either a power weapon and pistol, or a lightning claw and assault weapon. Auxiliary grenade launchers and digital weapons could be pretty cool, and artificer armour gives you a better save than terminators, combined with the standard Iron Halo.
Hope this text block helps. Kaesar II
21254
Post by: lipsdapips
It certainly does help! so should I do something along the lines of, -BP/PP/SB and PW and artificer armour? I'd like as many attacks as possible in CC and he has a command squad so they could be kitted out similar?
12212
Post by: Lord Kaesar II
I'd go for kitting the command squad to be rather similar- after all, they're there to augment the captain's power. You could have them with some cc men, with some close range weapons, just to add some ranged edge to them. Here, the champion and some special weaponry helps out. And when it comes to attacks, the PW and BP or PP is your best bet, with some good old artificer armour. The storm bolter has a lot of shots, but won't give you that extra attack, which is very handy when staring down lightly armed hordes.
By the way, what manner of enemy are you anticipating- orks, guard, or what? Certainly both types lend toward an emphasis on horde fighting, but orks are, of course, a bit better held at range with some heavy support, like that whirlwind involved in the strike force. And how much did that even cost? That's a lot of units.
21254
Post by: lipsdapips
thanks for the in depth responses Kaesar!
So how sounds:
-Captain w/ PP and PW
-Command Squad:
-Apothecary w/ BP
-Company Champion
-veteran with PP and chainsword (Melta bombs?)
-veteran with BP and PW
-veteran with BP and chainsword (Melta bombs?)
Im not sure how to kit the veterans, im scarce on PW parts. :\ any advice?
Anyway, another update- all marines are assembled, based and washed after the first day!!
yay! I'm so excited!

Battleforce = Christmas in June
Myself, I'm trying to show some restraint and get everything I have painted before I buy anything else. I'm sure I'll have no problems atr all accomplishing that goal
I saw a lot of mold lines and sprue remnants on your new marines. Even though they're primed already, you should clean those up. I think the battleforce boxes are the worst thing in the world when it comes to making yourself go slow, what with all the new, shiny toys to play with, but it will be worth it in the end!
Keep it up!
Cheers,

Some more nicely painted marines, I see. And on the power weapons, how many you decide to involve is up to you. If the main problem is the pieces, there's plenty of room for the creation of new ones- I have one I made out of a chainsword arm, a paper clip, and a scout's knife. Otherwise, that's looking like a solid enough line up (while remembering that a lightning claw is the same cost as a power weapon for command squad marines-- more hits and more conversion potential). And you may also want to look into some of the ranged assault weapons for a couple of them, so you can kill time prior to combat more effectively. A flamer is particularly effective when battling horde types, but really, the final decision rests with you.
Giving an opinion since 1988. Kaesar II

I have to say, awesome work, consistently good paint jobs, and a lot of cool poses.
One thing, maybe start to undercoat your models? I have painted without undercoating before and the paint tends to rub off after a while.
21254
Post by: lipsdapips
Yes, this has happened a few times, but with basecoats it tends to make the model either to light or too dark, and I feel that Mordian Blue basecoats just as nice if not nicer then a black or white primer.

Hey all! I'm extremely happy with todays progress. I originally said to myself that I wasn't going to do anything today, but then I decided to go and dry fit my captain (who is going to have two LCs) p.s in the pic none of those parts are being used, I just grabbed em to test the LC poses. Anyway, I got up there and did all that, and then decided to do the gold part of just 5 of my marines, but once that was done, I knew I had to finish them all so here we go, the squad now with all the gold bits done:

My tactical squad is finally finished!
Reflecting, I found this a much funner, quicker, easier and better experience to do in batch than do them al individually, and I love the result.
I found it hard and inconvinient how the shoulder pads got in the way of the bolters alot during assembly, but IMO, it's a small price to pay.
So so far in the Strike force:
SM Tac Squad 1 - DONE!
SM Captain and Command squad
SM Tac Squad 2
Land Raider
Rhino
Rhino
Vindicator
Whirlwind
And thus, next up is the tactical squad, that I want to be effective shootily, and then also effective in the following assault (good to make use of 2 attacks IMO), Opinions? Im thinking a few PPs, BPs, and SBs, and some PWs, and LCs in the mix? suggestions? I want it cool looking and effective, so i'll probably run company champion aswell.

Your painting skills are very crisp and you show great talent.
it is unforunate that the end effect is really hindered by the obvious mould lines on your backpacks, arms and legs.
You should really take the 3 odd minutes per model it would take to file these off...it is really spoilin your otherwise great looking force.

It's not that i'm trying to be nitpicky. You just have a really good natural talent and I want to see you paint as well as you can!
It's important to see model prep as not something seperate to painting, but as important as any painting technique you can learn.
Just your skills have clearly progressed beyond beginner painting now. And you are moving into upper-intermediate painter, and at the skill levels you are reaching things like mould lines will become more and more of an issue.
if you were just a beginner level still I wouldn't bug you about your mold lines
Keep up the great work! Subscribed!

Hey guys.
Today I got the captain t owhat i call the "based-black" stage. I also added miscellanious tidbits to both him and his command squad.
Also, if you guys follow Nerdfest09s blog you may've noticed that he's goingt to paint a marine for me! So, I had to return the favour, Nerdfest, here's the marine i'm going to paint in your chapter's colours:
EDIT: I also readjusted the company champs sword to the stereotypical position, I didn't like the previous pose.
Enjoy the pics lads.

Niiice :-) Nerdfest marine looks languid and powerful! as all good nerdfests should look! I can't wait to see how these guys look with some paint on them! the poses are really, really good, I like the fact that you can get them to look so different without going crazy and converting and sculpting new bits! you have quite a talent for it Matt, seriously!
And thank you for returning the favor! I appreciate the gesture! gonna look good glaring over the battlements at my paint station urging me to do more! :-) painting an Ultramarine is going to be really fun the more i think about it! I'll paint him up third on the list at this stage for you dude!

I'm looking forward to painting the exemplar up too! Do you think Adeptus Battlegrey then a wash of badab black is close enough to your colour scheme? That's the way I invisage myself doing him up with the red arms and helmet of course (i want him to be important )
14392
Post by: nerdfest09
Yep, i'd say that may work well for the scheme, it'll at least be pretty darn close :-) and important is good, especially as i kinda like the way you do your red helmets!

speaking of ultramarines, i bought ultramarine blue and it seems very light in colour? I'm not sure it's going to look right for me when i paint yours up for you? do use the straight colour or do you mix your own shade?

I use Mordian Blue (foundation) and then use a wash of Asurmen blue, they look great together, and are pretty dark (the right depth for battle hardened bio engineered supermen!)
So yeah give that a try

Well let me just say the Finecast range is great from what i've seen.
40279
Post by: prototype_X
the only finecast model ive seen was the lord commisar
i think it was nice but the guy who painted it used three coulors, and they were way too thick i couldnt see the detail. And to top it all off he hadnt even painted the parts right, literealy half the face was bright pink the other red, the rest of the pink was on the boots, the boots! i went home and looked at the price of the mini and i cried a little inside.

Hey all!
That's right! I couldn't resist, so I brought my paint station on holiday with me! (it wasnt overseas or anything). So i've had lots of free time here at my bach and managed to get the Chaplain painted (beautifully if I may say so myself ) up in a mere 2 days! [I cant do the base because I don't have everything with me] but i'm extremely pleased with the head, armour and the blue shoulder pad (i'm very proud of the 'U' freehand)
This was my first resin peice so be nice :p, on and p.s what's the best way to glue them? Plastic? Super? Mix?
So, enjoy the pics.

Post by: Lord Kaesar II
What you want to use is super glue- plastic glue has no adhesive effect on non-plastics. And the U is pretty good, besides that it looks a bit chunky at this resolution. Otherwise, it's looking rather nice, though I wouldn't personally want to take my paints on vacation, at least to free myself of guilt, if nothing else.
By the way, what are the parts of the chaplain? Just the body and the jump pack?
Nice work. Kaesar II

Looks cool. Did you paint the words on the scrolls? If you did there is a easier way to do the writing. Just buy a .25 sharpie. You can find them at micheals or probably any other craft store. Nice pieces.

Wow dude nice chappie! works a treat! now it appears you should stop painting such nice models as you seem to be distracting jirc from painting his own mini's! *insert frowny face at jirc here!* the 'u' is nicely done, a touch thick in the pics but it could be the actual pic? but the face and tabbard are tops! love the worn look to it, like it's been used for ages and is nicely weathered with the glory of battle!
keep it up dude, next thing you know you'll be painting on the loo, painting in bed, painting in the bath..... be careful don't want to have an intervention now do we!
Nerdfest09
21254
Post by: lipsdapips
Hahaha! But I want to paint more!
Oh and explaining the 'u', the models in my store have a sort of general, layered 'chalky' look to them which I love (its chalky without being drybrushed and is somehow really thin too.) and in an attempt to copy that, I did several thin heavily diluted layers of astronomican grey until nice and uniform, the picture makes the 'u' slightly chunky but in real life the thickness is almost impossible to see.
14392
Post by: nerdfest09
Ah makes sense now, i know the finish you speak of, hard to replicate but looks the goods.
21254
Post by: lipsdapips
Yeah, it kind makes the models look 'smaller' and more complete (in a way)?

I find building the sides first is a good way to start on the raider then you can paint the interior detals and pop him all together and add the top part then touch up any paint and edge highlight until you're done! easy! :-)
12212
Post by: Lord Kaesar II
Piece of advice I would offer, from personal experience-- the mechanism for the front hatch, though cool, breaks pretty easily. You may find it conducive to have some alternate form of closure for the front hatch, if you want the interior to remain.

Hey lads, unfortunately I didn't get any painting done today, BUTTTTT
I made myself a kinda 'crude' light box, and want to know your opinions, do you like the pics more or less then my usual stuff? I snapped shots of pretty much all my HQ models [except for my command squad lads [got like 4 command squads not featured ])
here are pics. The pics are in chronologic order from dates when I painted them. I also put close ups on a few guys. I did close ups of the plasma cannon and plasma gun guys from my tactical squad too
ANOTHER PROBLEM!
Golden Demon is coming up soon, and since i've painted some more minis recently, the choice has gotten harder! how do I make a poll thing?
we need to pick two of the following: (there have been pics of em all dotted round the blog, so you should know who they are!)
Captain with relic blade and storm shield
Veteran with PW/ SS (the one with the axe and GK helmet
Apothecary brother Aeven
My Latest captain ( SB, Relic Blade/ PW)
And my chaplain

Hey all, so I finally got some more plastic glue (which might I add has been made SMALLER!) and constructed my land raider, for my first land raider I think i've done very well, and in a cinematic pose, it looks mean! i'm going to try paint it as soon as because of how excited I am but it's going to take a long time with a brush :\. This is where an airbrush would come very much in handy
4
12212
Post by: Lord Kaesar II
I'll have you know, young whipper snapper, that I've painted all of my tanks by hand, even my baneblade. Sure it might not be so convenient, but when you don't have spray paint or an airbrush you do what you've gotta do Anyway, I like the land raider, besides that the heavy bolter barrels are looking... incomplete. The sprue left on the front looks bad, and though drilling the barrels is optional, I always like that asthetic. By the way, are the top hatches glued down? I always like to be able to change stuff out up top- I always find it handy to have a multi melta ready for the close firefight.
But! Good for you, adding the Land Raider to your force. Always a good decision to make. I can't tell you all the times it's just been stunned and still effective because of the Machine Spirit in it. Really great for holing up a squad of assault terminators or just holding off most shots to it (besides 1 time when a Salamander iron clad podded right beside it and twin link melted it up first turn :( )
Anyhow, it's still going nicely from what I can make out. Just remember to love on the bolters a bit! Kaesar II

Yes I agree the bolters still need some work :\

Hey Hey! Nerfest! How's is going?
I'll try to get some pictures up tonight or tomorrow. Thus far I've got the entire hull painted up to the blue stage and the top has been highlighted. It's taking much longer then I thought! I've been working quite long and hard, but will increase my output . Since this is my first proper tank, (after experiences with old rhinos where washes looked horrible, and things generally went wrong) I decided that I wouldn't wash this tank, making the task longer still! I've had to paint wash into all the recesses individually which took a while, but worry not, for it's all done, all I have to do is highlight the sides, and i've done all the large flat work that i'm not so good at, then detailing which hopefully wont take too long, and i'll hopefully have the finished product up on the blog anytime between Wednesday and Sunday (depending on how inspired I feel throughout the week.)
So yeah, i'll talk to y'all shortly!
Keep cool,

Hey guys, long awaited update I guess, i've been working, just not blogging, so sorry about that.
anyway, I'm going to be entering for two Golden Demon categories and i'll post models and any results (unlikely! ) at the end of the competition, but i'm entering them tomorrow. So wish me luck!
But yes, what have I been working on? I searched deep into the bowels of my boxes and found some of the old Tau I had, we bought a battleforce a while back. I managed to find 2 unpainted fire warriors and have started to paint one as the traditional Tau colour scheme (the sandy one) and so far its coming out ok, just takes layer after layer to get it uniform, that's all. I also did some detailing on the Land Raider, but it still has alot of work to be done, so without further ado, I present to you, the pictures:

P.S You may notice that this is my personal command tank - written on it is 'lipsdapips' I may have to make a captain Lipdapepus or something later down the line to represent me and what I enjoy in game, I think that would be a heap of fun LDP

Quite bloomin' right too! - If blue works for you, then blue they should be. Get your Smurf on.

The script on that LR is looking great! It's little details like that that really make things pop.
Keep it up!

Haha, I was going to use another instead of the "blooming" but I thought I may appear to be suffering from tourettes. Lips, what do you have on the horizon now the LR is nearing the end? Are you going to focus on the Tau for a bit of a break, or continue on with the UM's?

@Rawson thanks a heap man! That sort of thing really motivates me to carry on!

I just found this, and I really like your painting style and your conversion work; however, I do think all the SW and BA bitz look out of place on ultramarines. Blood drops and wolf heads just do not fit them.
