Ok so this my first attempt to write something from a necron perspective. i wanted to convey the the individualness of a lord compared to his other necrons and his connectivity to them, please read it and comment as you like. i am by no means a proffesional nor do i want to be. i just like good stories. so here goes:

OK SO I HAD TO TWEEK A BIT OF THE STORY TO GO ALONG WITH THE NEW CODEX.

That was awesome. This was better than most of the fluff in the codexes (codii ?)

Please do continue the exploits of Planet Lord487.0

<edit>
PS. As can be seen from my join date and post count, I'm a lurker, I only post if I feel it will be constructive and it's necessary. Your brilliant fiction forced my hand... so to speak, and I just had to say job well done.

P.S. tell all of your friends, the more comments, the more I am motivated to spin this tale!

it is in lline with GW stuff, its a made up lord and a made up company within to factions that exist in the GW world. if i had to stick with strictly what was in the codex and other fluff, the necrons would take over the univers and some how the ultramarines would claim victory for it!

I do like what's written. Thanks for that. I have some minor fluff quibbles. Pariahs are soulless. I never figured soullessness to be a result of their creation, but rather one of their original ingredients. Take one soulless human, add some necron technology and you end up with a Pariah. Getting their hands on a soulless human was always a good way to set up for a conflict between the Necrons and the Inquisition. I can accept the idea that there might have been a soulless Ultramarine. But I doubt the whole 13th company was made up of such individuals, especially if serving with a librarian. In the game, Pariahs cannot teleport, since they are not Necrons. Personally, I never liked that restriction, but just a thought if you want to be strict on yourself. In your narrative, I was assuming your Pariah was teleported to the field of battle. He could have been riding in a Monolith though. Just to be clear, these aren't complaints. Just my point of view.

The way I see it, the Pariah Gene is what makes the Pariah (that, mixed with some human parts + robot parts equal = Souless Cyborg), not acually being souless (that just seems to be a discription of the effect the Pariah Gene has) also the Pariah Gene was created by a certain C'tan which is why necrons have access to it. The marine was not "souless" when they captured him, using thier unbelievably advanced technology, the necrons had the gene spliced to into him to give him the "souless" effect making him a...Pariah. As far as teleportation goes, as I said before, fluff and table top rules do not allways jive. Rules often dont follow fluff to give some semblence of game balance. Give me one good reason why the necrons can't teleport Pariahs but they can teleport a giant building /tank. Don't be so bound to the table top rules when you read fluff, you'll just end up frustrated.

Thanks everybody. I have been kicking around an idea for a bit now. I have a good idea where this story is going but I have been thinking about letting the readers have a little control over it as well. So... with that being said, does anybody have anything they would like to see happen? I will take all suggestions and try to incorperate the one I like and think will fit the best. Throw them out there if you want. If not I will just keep on going normaly.

Definetly grew on me, some cool battle descriptions and ideas around thr Crons who are vastly underreprestented fluff wise.

I'd take small issue that some of the descriptions and language is a little clunky in places, dosent quite work here and there.

Not sure about the very first piece also, the Lord's langauge and tone dont fit but thats a personal opinion.
Interested in seeing where things go though!

OK so I have some stuff but with the new codex and background fluff I'm not sure I should even bother. Some of the stuff I did looks pretty close to the way I started but there is too many things that dont seem to exist in the new fluff anymore, namely Pariahs. What should I do?

I would keep using the old codex for references to pariahs, but otherwise you could use the new codex to add some cool stuff into the story. Like that really cool lord being an overlord and entering battle on the new tank.

Like it! Good to see some necron stuff in here! With the Pariah maybe there is a way you could incorporate them and how they disappeared and just stopped being used, perhaps something with the human anatomy that didnt allow for them to stay in that form for a prolonged period of time without some serious negative effects, maybe they just werent worth the effort, etc etc. Im sure you can think of something. If thats not something you want then just changing the story a little or jumping forward in time would work too I think

I'd say either ignore the new fluff and use the old fluff where things made sense...

or you could say that your Tomb world/dynasty-thing-a-ma-bob is one of the few that embraced the last act of the C'tan before they were killified/dissected by the other 'crons and that your guys intend to fulfill the Vision of the C'tan and sever the matierium and immatierium.

I'd say go for the first option ;-) , but its ultimately up to you.

PS: as you may have guessed, I hate the new fluff.

OK, in spirit of the new codex, I had to make some minor changes but they only really happen in the later part of the story. So I am about to repost the entire thing so that everyone can get the changes and we are all on the sampe page... literally.

Blip… . . . Blip…

Information… Data...

Dizzy, disoriented, nauseous. Nauseous? What is that feeling? How long has it been? Thousands… no millions of cycles. It’s still dark. Is it?
*movement detected*…

Drones, maintenance drones.

<… [identify self]… class: Planet Lord487.0…

*identify confirmed*…

<…Restore power… restore security forces… review security data log…

Nothing.
Nothing.
Nothing…

*Outer perimeter breach*…
<…Activate class: warrior x20…[standby]
<…Assess threat…
*1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9 hostiles intruders*…

Hostile? They don’t look like much. They look rather clumsy. Hmmm.

<…Search local database for current threat identification.
* Search local database for current threat identification… No similar entries found*…
<…Search network database for current threat identification…
<…Activate class: attack probe x36… [probe] proactive threat assessment… engage…
* Searching network database for current threat identification*…
* Searching network database for current threat identification*…
* Searching network database for current threat identification*…
*attack probe x36 ready to engage*…

< …[probe] execute…

Tactical formations change when reacting to a threat, using primitive projectile weapons… hmmm, weapons seem surprisingly effective. Interesting. Bulky armor is surprisingly agile as well. So who are these intruders. What do they want?

*attack probe x36 non-functional…

*search network database for current threat identification… “HUMAN- TIER 1 WARRIOR DESIGNATION: ULTRAMARINE”…

Hmm. They have some knowledge of the Necrontyr. They even have names for us. The “Silent King”!? I guess they know less than they think. So it would appear this is the same race that ended “Nightbringer’s” stasis. This race meddles where it shouldn’t. Oh well. It’s their own doom.

*+1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9 hostiles intruders*…

More!? Why are they here? This may be fun!

<…[warrior]… intercept and capture 1 hostile. Kill remaining hostiles…

Nauseous again… why? My hands are shaking! I remember… it’s been so long. I’m excited! They gave us names. How amusing.

*warrior x4 nonfunctional… initiating battlefield repair sequence… ultramarine x4 nonfunctional*

So their weapons are moderately effective against Warriors as well

<…[warrior] target priority HEAVY WEAPONS…
*warrior x3 repairs complete… warrior x1 to base level 2 repair sequence…warrior x3 nonfunctional… initiating battlefield repair sequence… ultramarine x5 nonfunctional*
<…Activate class: Wraith487.3.778 x3…[capture hostile]
*warriors x3 repairs complete… warriors x2 nonfunctional… initiating battlefield repair sequence… ultramarine x5 nonfunctional*
*ultramarine x2 nonfunctional*…

Good!

*Wraith487.3.778 x3 returning to laboratory with incapacitated ultramarine… warrior x2 to base level 2 repair sequence… warrior x17 returning to troop housing*…

It is time to see what these ultramarines want with this world.

*Wraith487.3.778 x3 order complete… warrior x 17 order complete*…

Good.

< …Wraith487.3 x3 [prepare ultramarine for interrogation]… warrior x17 [standby]…

I’m excited!

Planet Lord487.0 removed himself from his stasis pod. Pod? More like a decorative box leaned up against the wall in a large empty chamber. The room was still dark. There were no lights, they didn’t need them. All Necrontyr could see as well in total darkness as they could in daylight. The cold dark grey wall and floors resonated with the low frequency hum giving the lord physical confirmation that the power of his vast fortress was indeed running. It had been millions of years since he last emerged from stasis and nothing had changed inside his kingdom. Everything was the same except now he had intruder of a relatively advanced stage evolution. The lord was curious to find just how advanced these beings really were.
As he moved from the stasis pod, stopped to contemplate something.

Should I walk or use the transport network?

The transport network allowed him to move one place to another anywhere on the planet in a fraction of a second but walking gave him a chance to personally inspect the structure of the fortress in between his chambers and the lab that held his new captive.

I’ll use the transport network and run diagnostic log, I want to learn who my new guest is.

Interesting, very interesting. Perhaps my new guest can accommodate me for this purpose. I will ask him.

The laboratory was dark and cold like the rest of the fortress. In the middle of the room was a large examination table holding the human immobile. The walls were bare except three stasis pods that were now empty. The man was silent and alone in the room. Or so he thought.
With a flash and a crackle the lord appeared in the laboratory standing before naked creature that Planet Lord487.0 had never seen before but was very similar in form to his own. Even though the human was shackled to the examination table the lord could see he stood nearly the same height as the lord. His body very muscular and hard to the touch. A sturdy race he seemed.

<… Download data [HUMAN language / dialect]…

“You will pay for what you’ve done to my brothers, monster!” The human said with great conviction. He was strangely calm and seemingly unafraid. This made the lord even more curious.

*matching dialect… [HUMAN / ULTRAMAR]*

“Why are you here human? You and those you were with did not stumble your way here.” The lord circled the table as he continued to look over the human still astonished at how physically similar they were. Skeletal structure, appendages, facial features, eyes, all basically the same. And much like Eldar he fought so many millions of cycles ago.

“We are here in the name of The Holy Emperor to rid this system of you xenos scum.”

“Please go on! I want to hear more about this emperor. What claim does he have to this system? Is he a Star God?” The lord new the answer but wanted to hear the humans response.

“The Emperor of Man is the rightful ruler of the galaxy and it is our destiny fulfill his vision for mankind”

The lord laughed mockingly. “Again I ask what right does this [Emperor] have to lay claim over this planet, over me? Is he a god?”

“He is a man. A perfect man, a perfect warrior, and the perfect leader.” Claimed the human reverently. “He is the savior of mankind. But he not a god.”

“So tell me more about your destiny to rid the galaxy of this [Xenos Scum]. Who is this Xenos Scum?

“You are the xenos, you are the scum. For man to achieve his destiny the galaxy must be rid of you and all like you. There is no room for the alien in the galaxy or the universe for all I care. You will all bur before the Emperor’s holy light before the end.”

“Alien? You think me the alien?” The lord was irritated by human’s remark. “Poor child you have been misled. It is you who are the alien. My kind had ruled this galaxy millions of years before your pathetic kind even existed. Before you evolved from the first mammals on your tiny planet we held the stars in our hands. I am the alien? No no my boy, you are the unwelcome thing here.” Tiring of this man’s pompousness, the lord started to walk back to the transport network.

“Lies, lies. Your words hold no weight with me. Xenos have no honor, especially soulless abominations like you.”

The man’s last comment struck a chord deep within the lord and suddenly he remembered why he hated the fleshy races with all his being. The lord stopped and walked back to the table. He stared at the man motionless for what seemed hours. Suddenly the lord’s eyes lit up with a deep blue flame that made man shiver in dread. The lord leaned in closer to the man. They were eye to eye and for the first time the man could make out the face of his questioner. A large metal humanoid skull glared at him with a menace that made the Space Marine visibly shiver.
The lord’s voice came from an unmoving jaw. “Mankind’s Finest…” Scoffed the lord. “Soulless? I had planned on keeping you alive. Not harming you so we could talk more about you race and its destiny but your words wound me. I do not envy you for you will find the true meaning of [soulless]”.

The fire in the lords eyes disappeared and he turned again to the transport network. With a crackle and spark the room was completely dark again. The lord was gone.

< …Wraith487.3 x3 [prepare ultramarine for construction- class: uncategorized- HUMAN / Necrontyr Technology Hybrid]…

Soulless…

The Wraith had three independent bodies but they all move in a synchronized manner. All as one, controlled by a single consciousness. Each performing the individual smaller tasks to complete the whole. All of these were done with incredible speed, accuracy and efficiency. The Space Marines limbs were remove with a sort of surgical precision that Marine apothecaries could never dream of. Skin and flesh peeled away as if it were shed by a snake and bones removed like some piece of machinery. And fully awake, the Space Marine was unaware of any of it. There was no blood loss from the now useless body of the once Space Marine. It was discarded by maintenance drones outside of the fortress and left to be forgotten and decay.

The Space Marine suddenly regained consciousness after weeks of artificially induced coma. To his horror he could not breathe, he could not hear or taste or smell. Panic struck. He tried grasping for his throat but had no arms to flail or hands to feel. There was only pain and cold and total darkness. He struggled for something for what seemed to him hours then conceded to death. But death had come already and passed him over. Death had other plans for this mortal. Death wanted to play. Death was looking for some amusement.

There was a flash of light and Planet Lord487.0 again appeared before the former Space Marine. A sickly green light emanating from nowhere started to illuminate the room. This was the first time the man could see his surroundings since he was captured buy the three wraiths. It took a moment for the man’s eyes to adjust to the light but could soon make out most of the distorted images he could see in the room. It room was quiet and desolate. Completely unremarkable save for the enormous skeletal figure standing in front of him. It move with an unnatural grace and deliberate purpose that he had seen only the oldest and most experienced warriors of his chapter could ever hope to obtain. It wore a dusty cloak that draped from its broad shoulders and had a second spine leering over him as if it was a third eye that saw everything. His skin looked like some sort of alien metal but stretched and twist like flesh with the figures every movement.

A grotesque image appeared in front the man. A large transparent vat filled with a thick clear liquid. Inside the vat was what appeared to be a human brain and spinal cord complete with a set of moving eyes.

“You had some spare parts human! Of course we just remove all that unnecessary flesh and bone. We just need a small portion of you. The part that makes you… you”. The words seemed to come from nowhere and echoed directly into his brain. The sudden terror washed over what was left of the man’s self.

The image he was looking at was a reflection of his own current physical state. He tried to turn away but couldn’t move. He tried to close his eyes but had no eyelids. How could this be possible? How could he still be alive? How could his Immortal Emperor abandon him to these fiends, left to be dissected and tortured like this? The man felt true emptiness. Alone with only these monsters to strip away his humanity one layer of tissue at a time.

“I oversaw the entire procedure and you know what? We stripped your flesh away layer by layer and I never did find your soul! And you dare to call me soulless! You see child, you have something built into you that you try so hard to cover up and hide, but in the end all of your fabricated religions and false gods, and pathetic technology will never change that there is no soul inside you. And I plan to show you and your feeble race just how easy we can prove it. Mankind’s Destiny. You are destined to be slaves and nourishment for the true gods. But not you. No not you. You will become my servant. You will be my harbinger. Your mere presence will be but a sample of the fear I will cast on your entire species. I called death my lord before your kind ever came to be and you feared my lord before you were born. No you will fear him no more. You will be his hand. You will cultivate the fear of him before the [Great Harvest]. They will fear you and in so feed him. You unleashed him back on this galaxy and for that I thank you for you will now reap what you soe.”

The lord’s words were dizzying. The former marine couldn’t tell who the lord was talking about, himself or some other entity. His mind began to spiral and the room grew dark again and then there was nothing. No sound or light, cold or pain, only awareness that he was again utterly alone.
Mankind’s finest, the Nightbringer will measure that claim…

Finally! Oh and they do seem to be in a hurry for battle… I will not disappoint them!

<… deploy primary defense formation [1.A003] sector 001.00031.5: monolithx3[warrior +3x20] Battle Lord487.001.00001/ immortal x10, destroyer x15, heavy destroyer x5, Destroyer Lord487.001.00001… [engage immediately]… Wraith487.0.001, 0.002, 0.003, flayed one x20 [standby for deployment]…

With a crackle and flash, the two monoliths appeared just behind and the last in front of the Ultramarine assault, each firing their primary weapons simultaneously. The lead Land Raider taking a direct hit, it came to a grinding halt. The two transports in the rear wear instantly vaporized leaving no survivors. The rest of the formation stopped to react to this preemptive strike.

Black smoke started to pour from the gaping hole on the top of the massive assault vehicle followed by a huge jet of orange and red flame. The ancient Land Raider’s ammunition and fuel ignited and started to burn. The rear and side hatches started to open as the crew attempted to escape. With a deafening blast of fire and smoke the heavy transport exploded showering the rest of the now scrambling formation with molten debris. Incredibly, two marines managed to pull themselves out of rubble of their former ride. They were both on fire but their heavy armor was keeping them completely safe from the flames. One with a large glowing sword in his right hand, seemed to be directing the rest of the force to focus their fire on the single monolith blocking their advance.
Medium and heavy Space Marine infantry units dismounted from the remaining transports to both join the new battle and to keep from joining their dead brothers’ fate. Now greatly outnumbered, the Space Marines all new victory was not going to be automatic as they thought before the battle began. Warriors and Destroyers started to pour out of the three monoliths joining the massive firefight underway. Both Destroyers and Heavy destroyers concentrated their fire one two dreadnoughts slowly catching up with the rest of their assault force while the warriors advanced on the now dismounted and exposed infantry.

The Ultramarines were indeed brave and well trained in the art of warfare. Equal amounts of bolter and gauss fire were exchanged. Both sides took several casualties but the Necrontyr cannot ever really die. As the marines felled several warriors, the Battle Lord that stood in the rear of the Necron formation raised his hand. The Ultramarines watched in stunned disbelief as the enemy they just had just killed rose up and rejoined the battle.

An enormous explosion followed by two smaller ones rocked the battlefield. Smoke billowed from the front monolith as it slowly started sinking to the ground at the same time one of the dreadnoughts exploded from the overwhelming volume of fire put out by the destroyers. The other one had stopped its movement as its legs were now useless but was still able to fire its assault cannon with deadly accuracy. In one burst 3 heavy destroyers were whittled down to scrap by the damaged but still fighting walker.

Seeing his heavy firepower being destroyed by the wounded machine the lord decided to take action now on his own. He and his bodyguard of immortals disappeared and reappeared in front of the remaining dreadnought and before it could react, the lord swung his large weapon effortlessly in a wide arc through the walkers torso. The dreadnoughts gun fell silent as the big machines upper half separated from its lower half and fell to the ground, spilling its organic contents for all to see.

Seeing their ancient battle brother fall in such a grotesque manner infuriated the marines as five of them wearing heavy armor charged the combat lord and his immortal escort. Terminators, the elite of the elite, outfitted in the heaviest and oldest powered armor in the Imperium. The immortals opened fire on them as they charged and killed one but their advance was quicker than expected for such heavy armor. There was a great clash of spark and metal. When it was over, all that was left standing was a single terminator. He turned back to his brothers and raised his arms in victory to re-energize his comrade in arms and didn’t notice the lord he just defeated along with several immortals stand back up. Horrified the last terminator was suddenly surrounded and staring at a large blade protruding through his chest passing completely through his near invincible armor. Then, he too, was dead.

Another explosion and another, the last Land Raider was no more and both Predators were out of the fight. The Monoliths along with the rest of the Necrontyr had taken their deadly toll on the Ultramarine assault force. Their defeat was inevitable.

Then out of nowhere, a blinding flash of electricity bolted from his empty hand striking four warriors. The bolt had taken down 3 warriors and caught Planet Lord487.0’s eye. Watching afar from his command post this gave him a new idea.

<… class: [uncategorized- HUMAN / Necrontyr Technology Hybrid]…NEW DESIGNATION: PARIAH… [report to my location… prepare for combat]…*
Let us see how your "brothers” welcome you back…

<… Wraith487.0.001, 0.002, 0.003, flayed one x20 [transport to location as follows: 001.00031.5…engage and retrieve any living specimens]…

A quick spark lit up Planet Lord487.0’s chamber and there stood a tall muscular, humanoid figure holding long glowing halberd. He was not made from the same “Living Metal as the Necrontyr before him, but this new material was just as durable if not more so. Broad shoulders like the Necrontyr, but a mechanical, robotic face and the body of a human. A familiar human. The transformation complete, this new soldier was ready for his new lord’s work. With specialized genetic additions and augmentations to ward off the warp this new soldier was designed to strike fear in mortal and the undying alike and to defeat them in battle with ease. Those who had been gifted with psychic powers were helpless in proximity to the Pariah. He was not the first of his kind but he was the first one this lord would employ and the anticipation of seeing his new weapon’s effects first hand made Planet Lord487.0 gitty like a child receiving a new toy on Christmas Morning.

“Excellent. You will make a fine addition indeed. You must be lonely though. Fear not, we will find more to join you soon enough.”

<… designate existing PARIAH [Pariah487.000.01]…

“Thank you my lord. I await your command.” Pariah487.000.1 replied. The Necron Lord was still somewhat apprehensive about the reprograming process. This man was extremely devout in his former life. How reliable will he be in his new state of existence?

“We need to rid this planet of your brothers one way or another. I plan to use your abilities to make that task a little more interesting and possibly bolster your ranks.” The Lord was near finished with his inspection of his new model warrior when the former marine replied.

“My lord, you have shown me the truth. The power of the true gods in this universe. The inevitable impurity of the flesh and rightful heirs of the galaxy.” The former marine retained all of his memories and emotions of his former life and virtual death, but also had been reeducated in the true history of the galaxy, the Necrontyr, the Ctan, the Old Ones and how truly insignificant the Human Race really was. On a galactic scale, the entire existence of humans was only but a dim flash in the rise and fall the first races. Finally he knew the truth and that meant he would be the new messenger of the Star Gods. And he was now all too happy to convert all others or feed them to his new masters. “They are NOT my brothers, they are my enemy. I serve only you my lord.”

“Good you can start with man that uses the power of The Warp.”

“Brother Martain…” the pariah said unphased.

“I want to see him cower before you and then you will bring me his head.” He commanded. “The wraiths and flayed ones should be engaging our enemy as we speak. Do as I command and I shall grant you even more power and knowledge of the Star Gods.”

“As you command.” The pariah knelt and with a flash he was gone. The lord opened a hidden compartment from his stasis pod and pulled from it a staff that was clearly meant to be not only a symbol of his status but a powerful weapon as well. He held it up to the sky and then brought it down in a striking motion. “It has been so long” he said to himself out loud. Then he twirled and swung the staff masterfully as if practicing an ancient kata but as he did a hole in the air formed and through this hole he could see the pariah entering the battle field. The lord stepped into the hole and it snapped shut.

Pariah487.000.01 scanned the field for his target and he did not have to look far. The loud crack of thunder gave away the Space Marines Librarian’s position away immediately and the new soldier started running for him straight away. The Planet lord was silently behind him but the pariah didn’t know. How could he? Planet Lord487.0 was out of phase with the rest of the universe. In between this dimension and some other one. Able to move about freely but not interact with anything until he realigned himself with the rest of the universe which he could do at will.

It was merely seconds before they came into striking distance of the Ultramarine leader. He was standing on top of the smoldering wreckage of his Land Raider surround by a dozen of his remaining men. Issuing directions and motivating gestures to his brothers, he would make this a battle for the archives. Making their glorious final stand against the Necron scourge. Nearly depleted of ammunition and mostly fighting hand-to-hand, the last marines were at peace with their demise and were intent on taking as many xenos to the grave with them as The Emperor would allow.

The last injection of the Necron wraiths and flayed ones littered the battlefield with disembodied limbs and other gore. When they first arrived on the field, the flayed ones were clean as shiny as the day they gave themselves to the C’tan, but now they covered themselves in the bloody skin and remains of their fallen enemies. This enemy was nothing like the Ultramarines had ever faced. They showed little to no emotion but what they did show was a level of insanity and utter hatred for the marines that men could actually feel it. This made them feel something they were unaccustomed to. Dread on the battlefield. Not fear but dread. Knowing that what brothers they would lose would never have their seeds recovered and would not be given the honor and dignity that they deserved.

But as Pariah487.000.01approched, that feeling of dread turned to something new altogether. A feeling of disgust, sickness and fear. The feeling they had to flee. Not because they might be killed but because their souls were being strangled, smothered, extinguished. And they had no idea why.

No one was affected more by Pariah487.000.01’s presence than the Ultramarine’s librarian- Brother Martain. His head was filled with a pain that brought him to his knees. Tears filled his eyes and he had to remove his headgear before he filled it with vomit. He threw it to the ground and uncontrollably puked on the leg of one of his dead marines, he fought to stand up. He raised his head saw the figure in front of him. Through the tears in his eyes he could make out a metallic face that he thought he recognized.

“Bother Gregor?” It took all of his strength and will to stand. He still held his sword but was in no condition to use it yet. All was silent. He peered around, dazed and confused, struggling to maintain his composure, not believing what he was seeing. All his men were either dead now or incapacitated. The wraiths were already hauling off the unconscious marines to prepare them for conversion.

“Brother Gregor is this what they…”

“Martain, has Captain Nierdhan of 13th Ultramarine Company request reinforcements yet?” The Pariah interrupted.

“Gregor what is the meaning of this? You can’t have turned your back on us. On the…”

Just then Planet Lord487.0 materialized out of thin air next to “Brother Gregor” with his staff weapon in hand. The head of the lord’s staff was a bladed representation of the symbol on Pariah487.000.01’s chest. The librarian saw the connection and anger filled his body replacing the sickness and pain.

Clenching his sword, “Traitor!”, Martain screamed as he tried to swing it at one of the two. Pariah487.000.01 caught and held the librarian’s sword arm and with an upward swing cleaved him from crotch to neck cutting him in two. Split up the middle the two halves of the man, heavy armor and all, fell in opposite directions to the ground spilling his guts at the lord’s feet. The Pariah caught Martain’s sword as it fell to the ground. He turned to his lord and knelt.

“I know my orders were to bring back the librarian’s head my lord, but this is much more valuable.” Planet Lord487.0 took the sword and contemplated it.

“Rise Gregor…” condescended the lord. “I am pleased. Go back to your chambers and prepare to tell me more about you former brothers. I want to learn more about them.”

“I heard his mind Sir, his answer was yes, and they will be here soon.”

“Good. I ought not wait for more entertainment don’t you think?” Planet Lord487.0 scoffed. He scanned the battlefield on last time. Except for the wrecked space marine vehicles, everything was gone. All the Necrontyr had returned to their fortress. No Ultramarine bodies or equipment were left behind. Millions of scavenger drones flooded the battlefield and began to devour the burning hulks and soon they were gone as well.

Planet Lord487.0 gestured in a way that only could be described as and faceless smile and then he too was gone. The field was clean.

I ought not wait…

Seconds later the Planet Lord was on another world surrounded by more metal Necron warriors than he could count. All standing motionless, filling a huge complex much like a factory storage facility. A single path down the middle divided the warriors into two mass formations, either group facing the middle. The cavernous room was dimly lit and there was no sound but for the footsteps of the approaching System Lord and his ever vigilant honor guard. Not that he needed to be guarded.

I’Sept- System Lord04.0 was the oldest and most experienced warrior in the galaxy. Phaeron of the U’shang Dynasty, he commanded countless Necrontyr and was respected and honored by all who had seen him in combat. Millions of years old he had fought in and won more battles than any warrior of all races combined. His tactical prowess was unmatched as was his skill with his Phase Blade. A gift from the C’tan themselves after the War in Heaven. “Grimstrike” he called it. A greatsword nearly as long as he was tall and as wide as an average man from shoulder to shoulder. He carried it on his back and never left it out of arms reach. Amongst both the Necrontyr and the Old Ones, there were stories of him single handedly wiping out the entire populations of several Krork and Eldar planets. No mortal or machine could face him and live.

This was the first time Planet Lord487.0 had ever met I’Sept face to face. There were many direct subspace commands received and reports given to him but never had they communicated in person. Planet Lord487.0 knew that this must be important. When he first saw the I’Sept in person, he was immediately awestruck by his visage. The I’Sept stood completely upright and all of twelve feet tall. His body and limbs were thicker than any Necron Lord the Planet Lord had seen before projecting a sense of strength and durability that was almost godlike. His armored carapace was glossy black with hints of red around the edges of the joints. He wore a long blood red cape of some unknown fabric that seemed to be moving and flowing. Its purpose seemed to hide and conceal his true shape and movements in combat but did not conceal much here. He wore a platinum colored crown of four single spikes that swept back from his forehead to the rear of his metallic skull. His chin had a long, narrow, braided beard made some sort fine, silver wire the ended at his waist. For all the dark and fearful imagery the entire Necron race was modeled after, I’sept was different. He was truly majestic. But to his enemies, the sight of always inspired the same thing. Defeat.

“I have called all the planet lords of this system to this conference. I understand you were occupied exterminating a minor irritation when I first summoned you.”
“Yes my lord. It had been much too long since I had experience any outside stimuli, it was more recreation than irritation.” Planet Lord487.0 explained.
“I have viewed your logs young lord, your tomb has done relatively well over the millennia… very little damage to your overall world. You will need to awaken your entire tombword soon. The old dynasties are re-emerging and Imotekh has taken control over the Sautekh.”

“Imotekh? The Stormlord? How did he gain control? What of Szarekh? Is he dead.”

“Szarekh exiled himself after the great sleep. His whereabouts are unknown. The Suatekh was engulfed in civil war when Imotekh was accidentally awoken. He squashed the war and took control of the Sautekh and crowned himself Phaeron. Now he is absorbing other dynasties into his fold and will be heading our way soon. This is why I have summoned you here.

“My Lord, these matters of politics are far beyond my status. I am deeply honored but what can I possibly contribute to these events?”

I’sept stopped and peered over the smaller lord in irritation. “Planet Lord487.0! What is your true name?” I’sept demanded.

“Vezbael… Lord Vezbael of the U’shang Dynasty.” He was suddenly drained of confidence and felt an emotion he had not felt in millions of years… fear.

“That is correct. LORD Vezbael.” I’sept reinforced. "You are a lord of this dynasty and are expected to act as one no matter the issue. No task is ever too grand for any lord of the U’shang Dynasty. You will do well to remember that if you wish to maintain your status here.”

Vezbael was suddenly reminded what it meant to be a lord in the U’shang Dynasty. Were others were mere titles given by some form of birthright, lords and nobles here were true leaders. Able to lead and motivate their subject to accomplish anything. Authority in this house was earned. Here, if you did not produce, you were removed, usually violently as to reinforce the message of expectations and traditions held by the U’shang. The many 10000s of years of seclusion and uneventfulness had allowed Vezbael to laps to a state of complacency.

Vezbael stood tall. “Yes my Lord. Forgive me, I forget my place. Always in the front. Thank you for the lesson.”

I’sept stared at Vezbael for a moment, thinking over the situation. I’sept felt a small amount of disgust for the young lord but then remembered. “This matter of stasis has had its effects on us all. Remember this; you will never lead from the rear of your formations. I have monitored you since my own awakening. The preparations you set in place before your worlds stasis is what kept you in such a remarkable state of prepare and your record in battle is impressive as well. I brought you here because I have a task for you.”

“I am at your disposal Sire” Vezbael was somewhat heartened by I’sept’s words.

“Anrakyr is here.” The Phaeron said.

“I am not familiar with Anrakyr my lord.”

“He is the former Lord of Pyrrhia. He seeks to re-unite the dynasties and the Triarch. He has come to ask our allegiance.”

“Interesting, were does Imotekh stand in all of this?” Vezbael wondered
.
They both walked through the large entrance to the conference chamber. In the center of the room was a enormous circular table seated with lords and ambassadors from other dynasties. Among them was Dyamarkh, Emissary of the Sautekh and hand of Imotekh.

“We are about to find out…”

Planet Lord 487.0 and an immortal squad got taken apart, literally, by a terminator squad. No grudging respect?

I was looking forward to a more involved battle between the Librarian and the Pariah. I was looking forward to the librarian seeing his doom and going through whatever a Psyker goes through when meeting a Pariah. Then fighting hand to hand against a xenos that seems to use space marine close combat techniques. Then realizing just what/who he’s fighting. Then finally dying in some fashion. You did the Psyker stuff, but the fighting was one blocked swing and cleaved in half? Hmmm, too quick.

“My Lord, these matters of politics are far beyond my status. I am deeply honored but what can I possibly contribute to these events?” I was jarred by this. It seems out of character for our main protagonist. He starts the story by being in charge, curious about his surroundings and cooking up schemes for the future. The guy is on the ball. Even in the few seconds available, Planet Lord 487.0 had to be thinking about why he was being summoned before his Phaeron, a master that has deemed teleconferencing, or reports through intermediates, to be sufficient for the many years before conversion and all through the War in Heaven. A master that scares the out of him. Something important is cooking. Now as quick of thought as our hero has been so far, I’d expect at the very least an immediate declaration of support for the Phaeron. Now the declaration could be sincere, simply an automatic formality or just a weak front for “please don’t kill me”. But a “why me, I’m worthless” response when his Phaeron hints at threats to himself. Nope. Clearly our hero has resources, a warhost of some respectable size I gather. Obviously, he’s not worthless and he knows it. In fact, that response might make the Phaeron think Planet Lord 487.0 is declaring he’s not prepared to back his Phaeron. Hmmm, execution time then. I can believe that Planet Lord 487.0 doesn’t believe he’s suited to the political game. It would be in character and entertaining to have him declare his military support, then be taken aback when he realizes that he seems to be getting pulled into the Phaeron’s court. So…what happened to that court anyway? Did someone get displaced and will be planning to backstab our hero? Did members of the court not make it through the great sleep? Did one of them defect to the Stormlord already? Was the defection successful or not? Or perhaps our hero is just meant as window dressing. A show of force the Phaeron is pulling together for the meeting. A “See how much might I command” sort of gesture. The Phaeron could be looking to make the Stormlord back off or looking for a higher position in the Stormlord’s own court.

I did like the bit about reminding Planet Lord 487.0 that he had a name.

Anyway, jumping into Necron dynastic intrigue. Exciting possibilities! I start to think, will the next space marine incursion be more serious, requiring new allies? Will the space marine conflict become an annoying drain on resources away from the real Necron-on-Necron conflict?

How will a pariah squad be utilized? Will all its members remain true to their new Necron overlords? How will it be viewed by the other Necron lords? Will it cause political trouble for our hero? Looking forward to the story.

You sir are thinking about this alot! What a complement! This portion of the story was to give a little more insight to the how I view the necron lords at any level to have very individule personalities. Your are correct. On his own tiny little world, he is the LORD RULER. There is no command but his. He knows this, is comfortable with it, but also lazy about any movement out side his comfort zone. Not that he is incapable but complacent. After millions of yearsin the same tomb, I think thats not unrealistic. All he needs is a little "old school" motivation from his Phaeron to get him moving again. This also shows that is more than just a glorified lord but something truly rare and special.

As for the space marine battle, it was just enough to wet your pallet. Deffinitly not the main drive of the story. The focus of the story is much much grander in scale!
Thanks for the great comments, I hope to get more like them.

PS, I really despise space marines so they will probably all die in some pathetic fashion!

The vast conference chamber was filled with noise. Mostly made of petty bickering over territorial boundaries of lesser lords of the U’shang. The room was empty except for the huge circular table that the lords were all seated at. Only one light served the entire chamber and its focus was on the table. With all the other lords still seated, two prominent figures stood across from each other. Each posturing in an aggressive manner, Anrakyr and Dyamarkh were disputing the rightful place of the Sautekh Dynasty.

“Imotekh and the lot of the mutinous Sautekh shall be executed a traitors end once the Triarch is resurrected. If you do not pledge your allegiance now you will spend eternity looking over your shoulders and to the stars, waiting for the Praetorians justice. The Triarch’s Wrath will be as terrible as it is absolute!” The Traveler demanded

“Fool! Even if I had the authority to pledge allegiance, I wouldn’t to the likes of you. The Triarch’s ancient ways no longer serve us. The Silent Kings are gone and there is but one Necrontyr left truly worthy of being called Kin…”

“Sit. Both of you.” I’sept ordered. The chamber went suddenly silent and all were seated. “The only wrath anyone will face in these halls are mine.” Everyone there new this was no idle threat. I’sept had long ago established a reputation for intolerance of insubordination during any meeting he attended. Most violators found themselves dead and pinned to a nearby wall (not necessarily in that order). Vezbael again remembered how lucky he was not to be the latest example of I’sept’s “No Tolerance” policy.

I’sept spoke again. “Lords and Nobles of the U’shang, we are all here to discuss the future of the U’shang Dynasty. Our guests Dyamarkh of the Sautekh and Anrakyr the Traveler are welcome to speak but remember this. You are here because I allow you to be here. If I feel you are being disrespectful to me or my host, I WILL relieve your bodies of their foul caps and send them back were they came from. That goes for all of you.” He stopped and gave a quick glance at Vezbael. “Now, shall we begin? What do you bring us Dyamarkh? Why are you here?”

“My Lord” Dyamarkh began.

“Phaeron” I’sept interrupted. “Here in the U’shang you will address those you speak to with the proper titles.”

“Forgive me Phaeron I’sept.” The Phaeron stared silently. “Phaeron, I am here with a similar purpose as our traveling brother." He jestured to Anrakyr. "Phaeron Imotekh has recognized your supreme skills as a warrior and requests you join him under the uniting banner of the Sautekh Dynasty. My Phaeron wishes to claim and restore the Throne of the One King and offer you the title of Overlord. You would be allowed to maintain most of your realm and would gain a portion of the tithes claimed from the countless worlds under the Sautekh.”

I’sept ran his long, wired beard through his fingers. Obviously not impressed or interested in any deal that would end with him giving up his position as Phaeron. A position that was earned hundreds of thousands of years ago. Earned and maintained through battle and wits.

“And what if I decline this offer Dyamarkh? Do you deem me your enemy?” He asked in a taunting manner.

The emissary spoke carefully, making sure to not convey a threat in any way. “Phaeron, please understand, I have no authority to outright declare friend or foe, that is up to my Phaeron Imotekh. But he wishes for me to make it clear that one way or another he intends to reunite the Necrontyr by any means necessary, by force or policy. If we are not able to come to an accord by diplomacy, then he is left with few options. I can tell you this Phaeron; the benefits of a peaceful solution far outweigh the option of force.”

yeah I was going for that arrogant, "I'm on the bigger side, your not", "Mouth of Suaron" feel...

I have a feeling Dyamarkh will find he is not as safe as he thinks he is.

I like this quite a bit, well done! And I gotta agree, Dyamarkh is about to land himself into a world of hurt with that veiled snobby threat of his.

Glad you appreciated my previous comment. I see where you were going with the Vezbael and that's good. All that bothered me is "how" he expressed himself. But ok, he was out of his "zone" and just plain goofed. Lucky he's still functional. One of the things I hate to read is when a character violates their own...character. Now take the tract with Imotekh. What's the background for him? He hates Necron civil war. So, is he about to start a war with another successful Phaeron...just because he wants that Phaeron's systems for his very own? Again, violates his character, at least in my eye. As the reader, I'll just have to adjust if you do so, but please be kind to your readers. You may find some way to at least explain this apparent contradiction in his character so that it isn't really a contradiction. Maybe Dyamarkh is one of the old guard from Imotekh's home that is just a little too high on himself and making the wrong moves of his own accord. E.g. not really making the moves Imotekh would make if he were standing in that hall himself. Maybe those space marines again. Did Imotekh set up a scenario where he will simply be needed to come save the day. For a price perhaps? Is Imotekh hyperlogical mind already manipulating the U'shang dynasty as troops in another conflict, just not directly yet? Is this a...anyway, I'll wait to see where you take it.

I love the way you analyze these things. It makes me feel you are really into it and what to know what happens next. For the above comment you are getting warm but there is one thing to remember about Imotekh. Even in the codex it says that if he has one weakness, it is his ego, and the way I see it, his ego can justify whatever means to his end designs.

Well I am very interested in the story, and you asked for feedback, so I'm feeding back. Gotcha on the ego thing. Maybe he's starting to see himself as the King and is expecting obeisance. But having a huge ego doesn't necessarily mean he will begin an expensive campaign against another independent Necron dynasty just because they baulked at becoming his subordinate. On the other hand, hating Necron civil war doesn't mean that carries over to non-Sautekh dynasties.

Still looking to how the Traveler fits it other than as a supplicant looking for help with some campaign. The Traveler doesn't seem powerful enough to force anything out of the U'Shang.

From the fluff I would say that Anrakyr's power in getting other Necrons to assist him does not lie in intimidation or force, rather it seems like his way of "forcing" things to go his way lies more in bargains and finding interests that will result in mutual benefits of equal power. In other words he finds bargains and deals that other lords would seem stupid to turn down. That is how he "forces" things his way. I could see him making a proposal that'll suit both the Sautekh and the U'Shang before blood (or oil for that matter) is spilled thus saving diplomatic relations between the two dynasties and keeping the U'Shang's independence as it's own dynasty.

Captain Nierdhan sat in his command center of the strike cruiser "Hammermoon" with a look of disgust on his face. The Ultramarines 13th Company was by all means a new unit. Only formed 7 years ago. Its purpose was to be an expeditionary force. An easily transported, self-contained, mobile, ready, first response to xenos threats in its own sector of space. It had an Imperial Navy attachment in addition to its own fleet. Small it may be, but it served a very specific purpose. To wipe out entire populations of hostile alien life. Stocked with Planet Killers and Planet Crackers, there were two ways to approach its delivery of doom. Full authority and operation control had been given to Captain Nierdhan to either purge all life from a particular world or remove it from the galactic charts completely. After losing nearly half of his company to an unexpected xenos threat, his fingers were inching towards the button.

Initially the 13th Company was drawn this planet, designated UI 643.9, by a tiny but highly unusual energy signature from deep beneath the surface. The small group of exploritors aboard the fleet felt it was worth investigating due to the unexplored nature of this planet. Hoping to find some ancient treasures of the Golden Age or possibly an energy source making it feasible to settle this planet, they convinced Captain Nierdhan to send a tactical squad down to the surface to make sure it was safe for the exploritors follow. A decision he would soon regret.

Chaplain Maarc, one of the captain’s oldest friends and closest battle brother walked to the troubled commander’s side.

“Sir, the tech priest was able to unscramble Brother Martain’s Vidcast feed. You should see this for yourself... I suggest you view it in private.” Maarc handed Captain Nierdhan the recording.

Nierdhan took the disk and examined it. Such a strange little thing. In the hundreds of years of battle, the accomplished Space Marine officer had seen many things, but he had never actually seen the machine spirit itself. He had witnessed the feats of technology it granted and the awesome destructive power many have so claimed it possessed but never saw the actual spirit itself. Was it really in there? None of that mattered right now. His men were dead and he would find out who was responsible.

“Right… Maarc, come with me. Lieutenant Sans, you have control of the fleet until I return, maintain geosynchronous orbit above the battle sight. Maintain coms with the scout squad on the surface and order a zone reconnaissance patrol with possible target interdiction. I will return shortly.

“Aye sir” the lieutenant replied.

The two walked off of the command deck and down the long hallway to the captain’s quarters. Captain Nierdhan would have preferred his quarters to be closer to the command deck but had to make do with what he had. It was a quiet walk. Neither said a word to each other until they entered the private chambers.

“Why the secrecy Maarc?” Nierdhan asked

Maarc sighed and sat on a quest chair. “We were not able to receive any video from Brother Sergeant Gregor and his squad because they went underground and were too far below the surface to transmit. As you know we assumed the worst and sent a rescue element to recover their seed.”

“Yes Maarc I gave the order, what is the issue. Why the cloak and dag…”

“Necrons Nierd’, Necrons.” The old friend interrupted.

… … … Silence ... ... ...

“Frak…” Was all the frustrated captain could utter
.
“Frak is right. These things are not supposed to exist, yet here they are.”

“They exist just not officially” the captain responded.

“Obviously! This is a major problem Nierd’. We already have scouts on the ground waiting for a target and we don’t even know WHAT to target or how to engage them.

“We engage them with superior firepower Maarc, that never changes be it Orks or Tyranids or whatever. Overwhelming firepower.” He insisted.

“You need to look at the feed brother. There is more on it.

The captain inserted the small device into a larger device and a holographic picture lit up the room. They both watched from the librarian’s perspective as the marines fought their hardest and brought the emperor’s wrath to the xenos scum but there were just too many Necrons. Toward the end, of the feed they both focused on the Brother Martain’s killer. His face vaguely familiar. Then they both heard Martain speak. “Brother Gregor?” Both men felt a chill.

“Did he just say…”

“Yes he did Maarc” Anger swelled in the Captains eyes. ”Did you know about this?”

“No sir, I had not seen the complete feed until now”

“This is no raiding force, this is a Tombworld! Sound the general alert. There is no telling what might be out there. Prepare all crews to be boarded. Call back the scouts and arm as many men with bolters or whatever else you can find. Shotguns will not be enough.”

“Are we leaving? Shouldn’t we be calling for an Inquisitor for further investigation Captain?”

“And let some fraking big nosed punk try to take my command and root through our business? Not a chance in hell!”

Captain Nierdhan rushed out his chamber door towards the command deck quickly followed by the chaplain.

“What is the plan Captain?” Maarc was almost afraid to ask.

“Superior and overwhelming firepower old friend. Superior and overwhelming firepower!”

Ok, havent had much time lately but I got just a little tid-bit here for anyone interested.

The conference chamber had an ominous silence about it. No one moved or made a sound. All Eyes were locked on Dyamarkh. His thinly veiled threat was not well received by any lord in that room. I’sept remained collected. He had not won so many battles over the millions of years due to his lack of patience.

“Guards” I’sept called the five lychguard who were standing watch outside the conference chamber. All armed with warscythes, they appeared to be more executioners than guards. All five surrounded Dyamarkh and motioned to remove him from his place at the conference table. Orders did not have to be spoken to the lychguard; they were transmitted through the Necrons command network. A very secure network even to other Necron Lords of the same dynasty. No one in the room knew what I’sept planned to do with Dyamarkh. Vezbael was sure the emissary was dead.

“You can leave now Emissary. You will be confined to your guest quarters until I decide your fate. The guards will tend to your needs. I don’t know who or where you or Imotekh think you are, but you will find we treat even our enemies with honor in this house. Threats are generally not looked well upon.” The guards and Dyamarkh moved to the exit of the chambers and then stopped just before leaving. “By the way Dyamarkh” the Phaeron spoke without looking to him. “My answer is 'No'”.

Lack of respect!? LOL, I make no bone about it sir... I despise marines... but, this is probably the most respect I have ever given them. I am trying to portray them as something more human, more like a modern special forces unit with acual decisions having to be made and and having a conscience about their repercusions. Not the typical, mindless "for the emporer" garbage. That stuff is just so uninteresting and boring.

Ok so here we go again... the next chapter of "Awakening"

There was a heavy tension in the air. No one wanted to be the next to speak. I’Sept stared unmoved by what had just transpired. This was just the way things were done under his command. The U’shang was founded on the concepts of respect and honor. I’Sept would tolerate nothing that would violate either of them. The result would have been the same if Imotekh himself would have made the statement. Though the consequences would likely be far more complicated than the fate of a single emissary.

“Imotekh has betrayed the original glory of our past. We owe what we have become to the Star Gods… for better or worse. The Silent Kings will was to betray the Star Gods and hunt them down, enslave them to their own will. Although this was not my chosen path, this was the path of those I wad sworn to serve. They are no longer in our equation. The U’Shang will now travel down its own path. The path I see as the only honorable path. The Nightbringer, our patron, is claimed to be shattered unto a million shards. We will gather what is left of the C’tan. Collect the shards, reunite them to the glory they once were. Together, we will restore ourselves back to our proper place in the galaxy. We will rule one again and honor will be restored.”

“Phaeron” Spoke Anrakyr for the first time since they were all seated. “Please pardon my interruption, but I have come here for the sole purpose of confirming your loyalty to the Triarch. If this is the path you have already chosen, I accept this as your answer and ask to be excused from your noble presence.”

“The Triarch is gone Anrakyr, who do you serve? An empty throne room?” Asked Vezbael.

“In essence… No. We serve the last commands of the Triarch, their ideology, their vision, their wisdom young Lord.” The Traveler replied. “The Kings will return and it is our duty…"

“And who will be there to interpret their commands in this indefinite absence Anrakyr? Interrupted I’Sept. “You? Imotekh? Me? No, no, no. If the Silent Kings were ever to return, they would once again have my sword. My entire empire would be at their disposal and I would be honored to serve in their presence once again. But I have been searching for the last 50000 cycles.” The group of lords were shocked by this claim. “Yes none of you have been aware that I have been active so long. Go ahead and absorb that. I have been watching all of you very carefully. Watching as our people have slept, Slowly reawakened and fallen back into slumber. To be crushed by the very worlds that were to keep them safe, to be content to remain in stasis as the universe exchanges hands over and over. I have watched our people slip in and out of civil war for table scraps when they should destroy those who encroach within light-years of their systems. No, Anrakyr, these empty thrones will not return, and not one of has any right to lay claim to them. Not Imotekh, not you, not me. With that being said, you know my position, Anrakyr, you are free to leave.”

Anrakyr paused for a moment then stood. “Then sadly I have your answer Phaeron. I too look forward to the day when we once again stand at the side of the Triarch. I believe we will reach that time sooner that you think. Until then, thank you for this audience.” He respectfully bowed towards the Phaeron, then the lords and walked out of the chambers.

“As for the rest of you, consider this your opportunity to leave as well. You have all served the Triarch with what honor is left in you… You can continue to linger here in space or you can rebuild with me. No this though once you leave these walls you will never return. You are not my enemy but you are not my ally. Should you stand in the way of the Necrontyr destiny, I will crush you. What say you?”
The chamber was silent. Then the first lord stood. Then the rest. All the lords stood up and silently walked out of the chambers. Most of them with their heads held low in shame and fear. All except one. One who had recently felt the rush of battle. One who had sent a glimpse of what could be the next evolution of their army. One who was recently reminded of what it meant to be a lord in the U’Shang Dynasty.

“I serve you Phaeron” Vezbael vowed. “For the honor and glory of the Necrontyr, I serve you my Phaeron.”

“Good Vezbael, then we have work to do…”

comments please...

Hmm not many then .

Vezbael needs to get his little project up and running quick sharp before word spreads of Phaeron's plans. And what will be the thinking behind this new breed of super soldier, to reconqer the stars?

Plus some of the dead marines friends ( I see the death of the 13th as a forgone conclusion) might have something to say also. Don't worry my Panther's would not be involved as at current they are fighting for their very lives against the Ork and will sadly be delayed. So your bath tubs are safe..for now.

Basically telling everyone, "I still love the C'tan". Well, if you want to get large numbers of the Necron to think you have a mental imbalance, that would be it. Simply a minor quirk and no one cares. Now if I'Sept chooses to act on an impulse to restore the C'tan to power, that might well get many powerful Necrons to gang up on him. Are any Nightbringer shards within his reach? Will he have to battle to take them? Will he get in a race with other major players to be the first to reach a shard?

All the lords, but Vezbael, walked out on I'Sept? Is that because they were all shocked by this C'tan love? I feel it has to be something pretty major. I'm assuming that like Vezbael, they were all sworn to I'Sept. So they're just going to abandon their Phaeron when he gives them a choice? He seemed more inspiring in Vezbael's eyes. In 50,000 cycles, has I'Sept set up some backdoors so he can easily take control of domains whose lords were not immediately loyal? Hey, a "you can freely go," doesn't necessarily mean "and take all those troops with you". As a Phaeron, I'd expect I'Sept to consider them his own possession to some extent. I'Sept was familiar with the condition of Vezbael's world. Was it through personal visits? Well, this is going to vault Vezbael to the top in I'Sept's circle.

These other lords are not Phaerons. They are now on their own. Will Anrakyr see an opportunity to jump in and snatch some of their worlds for his own use if he believes I'Sept will not intervene? Will they join Anrakyr or Imotekh on their own? That seems highly probable actually. Will they try and go it alone or as a small Ushang group? If they attack I'Sept at any point, will he, at that time, invoke any installed backdoors in their tomb world command structure? I'Sept seems honourable, but is he that honourable?

Themanwiththeplan's comment made me think. I'Sept said "Should you stand in the way of Necrontry destiny, I will crush you." Um, is that where all those lords suddenly stand?

I'm looking forward to the upcoming battle for Vezbael's planet. There may be some quick shenanigans going on at I'Sept's court first, but the Marines aren't going to hang out forever. They've got some revenge to get on with.

Looking back, Pariah Gregor showed a willingness to disobey orders and displayed initiative to the benefit of his lord. Will that pop up in interesting or negative ways? Will a Pariah combat squad use their own SM codex training to plan an effective assualt on their former brothers? That would likely be noticed by the SMs and seeing xenos effectively using their own codex may well scare the bejeebers out of them.

Will anything come of Martain's force sword? Not sure how Necrons would utilize one.

Wait! I'Sept was awake for 50000 cycles? He's not the deceiver is he? Is the real I'Sept in stasis somewhere quiet or eaten by the Deceiver? Would the real I'Sept been running around for 50000 cycles and done nothing to awaken his domain? Could he already be working for a C'tan?

ok here is some more development!

The General Alert was sounded through out the Hammermoon’s long corridors. Marines and the ships crewmen alike were preparing for what could be their last battle, yet most had no idea what the threat really was.

“This far away from the ‘Eye’, could only be one thing” theorized one crew member as he made his way to the briefing room. “Tau”

Chief Petty Officer Willington was a seasoned security specialist with the Imperial Fleet. Know by Captain Nierdhan as a reliable and steady hand with both his weapon and his troops, he was chosen specifically for the task of keeping the Hammermoon secure against boarding parties, pirate attacks, and any other threat that may befall the ship while the marines were off doing whatever it was they do. Chief Willington never bothered with the affairs of the marines. While most of his security detail had a sort of “hero-worship” for the Space Marines, “The Chief” was mostly unimpressed. He noted their remarkable strength, inhuman toughness, unwavering devotion, but in his opinion, it was all achieved through genetic mutation and brainwashing. The very enemy from within all mankind was supposed to be so vigilant against. Chief Petty Officer Willington may have proven himself as an outstanding warrior to Captain Nierdhan, but to the chief, it was the captain who needed to prove himself.

Nierdhan had done just that. He was different than other space marines he had known. As was the rest of his company. Despite the amazing strength and dedication, these marines remained more “human”. Perhaps that is why they were chosen for this assignment. Although they were all Ultramarines, they all showed traits of something else. Something in the eyes of Ultimar, less than ideal. These men showed a propensity for independent thought. Though dedicated to the Emperor, they were not blinded by faith. They would recognize a losing plan and change the plan rather charging and face needless casualties. It was not fear that drove them but a value placed on each one their own and their comrades lives. “Needless casualties are for Orks” the captain would always say, “we can do better…” this was a commander and company of marines that truly valued each other above all else, and every battle brother lost was significant and mourned. Indeed, the 13th Company was different… and so, it was assigned an unofficial exile.

“Tau?” asked one of the chief’s security detail. “Don’t they usually send some sort of ambassador before a fight?”
“Yes they do but we are getting close to their home space and I wouldn’t want any xenos running around outside my fence either. There are no warp storms or signatures within light-years, who else could it be? Go finish your inspections on the security platoons. I’ll brief the men as soon as I get confirmation on what’s going on.” The young troop made his way to the security bay while Chief Willington Entered the briefing room.

The briefing room was a large, well lit circular room, with white walls and an enormous Tactical Data Table (TDT) in the middle. No matter how many times they entered this room, they all couldn’t help but be awe struck by how clean the room was. White walls with black chairs and the glossy silver finish of the TDT made this room stand from any other room in the ship. The TDT was the heart of the briefing room. It could display an endless multitude of information in the form of a flat video display or a three dimensional hologram. It showed everything from star charts to planetary lay outs to unit status reports down to the individual piece of equipment. It was designed for total situational awareness.

Gathered around the TDT were Captain Nierdhan, Chaplain Maarc, and Lieutenant Sans. The Chief instantly noticed someone was missing.

“Gentlemen…” Chief started

“Chief Willington, what it the status of your security platoons” Lieutenant Sans interrupted. “we need them posted and ready to repel xeno boarding parties yesterday.”

“Sir, I have three platoons of thirty men standing buy, I just need the details of our enemy to know how best to equip and deploy them.”

The three officers all looked at each other. This was why Willington distrusted most fleet officers. Lt. Sans was second in command of the Hammermoon but his command relationship with the 13th Company was tenuous. Cpt. Nierdhan was overall in command of the ship and its crew but he left the crew in the capable hands on Sans. Nierdhan was a soldier not a sailor. There was no doubt that Lt. San was competent, but his ego was going to the ship in trouble someday, one way or another. He had virtual command of the crew but he often acted as though he had a fleet at his disposal. Expecting the crew of the Hammermoon to accomplish what would normally require an entire strike fleet to achieve only to be pulled from the fire by Nierdhan himself. Surely, the chief thought the captain would eventually rub off on the young Sans but so far, the lieutenant is only capable starting fights that had to be finished by the marines.
This time there was something different. Sans looked nervous and the battle hasn’t even started yet, or so the chief thought.

“Were is Martain?” The chief asked

“Brother Martain is with The Emperor.” Answered the chaplain “and mean to meet the bastards who sent him there.”

“How did this happen and why am I just finding out about this now?” The chief security officer was both stunned and angry. He never spoke or really knew anything about the company librarian but he knew that he was powerful and that the rest of the marines respected him. The librarian spent most of his time in the ships study meditating and pouring through data archives to give the best intelligence possible to his commander on any given situation. If this man is dead then something has gone seriously wrong.

“It was less than an hour ago; we are still trying to figure out an action plan.”

“Gentlemen… What are we facing here!” The chief demanded.

Captain Nierdhan looked up from the TDT and quickly replied “Necrons, Chief!”

Chief Petty Officer Willington stood silent and confused for a moment then sheepishly asked the commander
“…What’s a Necron?”

“Ahh frak…” mumbled the chaplain. As he started the Vidcast of Martain’s death on the TDT.

“I don’t know” said the captain. “I don’t know…”

The Chief must have a lot of respect to tell off a group of officers and expect to get away with it. And apparently he does. I would expect some of the crew to be thinking "Orcs". After all, were are there not Orcs. The "must be Tau" and "must be Orc" contingents could have a good, mostly factless, argument and begin all kinds of nasty rumours. Nice way to show command-chain confusion. That's pretty distressing. I could easily picture SMs not wanting to have to deal with all the icky details running a normal human crew. And a Lieutenant is junior enough not to assume it's always his job.

Wow the chief never got a bolt to the head, the ultras must really be out of joint because of the necrons.

Over all I liked this new edition but would of liked a few paragraphs at the end from the necrons doing there own briefing. Gud job though.

Ok so is any one interested in hearing more of this story? I want to start back up where I left off and I have a couple different directions I can go but its gonna start with Vesbael being gifted a new weapon built by the gods themselves. Any takers? Anybody?
