Post a pic of your independent character, special character, or HQ unit.
I have seen a few threads similar, there is one for conversions, one for armies, and now an HQ Showcase.
Lets show off our HQ's and spread our army leaders with the rest of the Dakka community!
I don't have current pictures of all of my armies, but here's a few:
From my very first army, Brother-Captain Daffyd of the Imperial Dragons Lost Company, converted from an Advanced Space Crusade Scout Sergeant and a Space Crusade Sergeant back in 1996.
Chapter Master Magnus of the Imperial Dragons:
Dark Eldar Lord insert name here of my somewhat unfinished Dark Eldar strike force:
Converted Huron Blackheart of the Red Corsairs:
Necron Lord you wouldn't be able to pronounce it if I wanted to tell you my name, which I don't, so die, filthy flesh creature! from my still growing but very speed-painted Necron phalanx:
Waaaghboss Biglug:
Brother-Captain Tubal Cain of the Betharin Hunters:
Brother-Captain name deleted from Imperial Records of the 'never quite got off the ground and the rest of the army sold off on eBay' Sons of Bychys:
Inquisitor Bob of the Ordo Malleus (converted back in 1996 from a very old Space Hulk Librarian):
Lord Phestus of the Death Guard:
And finally: Lord Commander Darius Shayde of the Nightlords:
here are a few of my paintjobs, oldest to newest...
i don't own a single one of these guys, as i only work on commission, or sell the guy i painted on a month where i don't have a commission booked...
it's nice to have a reason to dredge up these pics and look at stuff i haven't seen in a long time...

OK, that was a lot of pics, but i thought this would be a good retrospective on the last decade of work, and show how things can progress with a lot of hard work...
ten years may seem like a long time, but it seems like a blink of an eye in hindsight...
of course i was in the hobby already 15 years before i painted the Lord of Nurgle, and it was just for a bit of fun...
it's only in the last decade that i started to become serious about making a living off of painting, and one day bring home a Slayer Sword...
i still have a long way to progress, but it's nice to see i can finally achieve results like The Butcher...
so, that's what i have to say to everyone with the same dream as me...
keep working hard, 'cause there is always another step to take...
"He must be a pro.."
*Continues to scroll down*
"He's getting even better as he goes throughout the years"
*Keep scrolling with mouth agape*
"He's better than the eavy meatal team"
*Then realises your a pro painter from CMON*
"A pro painter on MY thread! YAY!!!!!!!!!!"
I'm guessing the client wanted one painted "the same way as GW's" and Jah took the instruction literally - the differences are subtle but clear when you're looking for them, but at a glance they look essentially the same.

the biggest difference is that my photography is rubbish:(...
one day i'll get my set-up dialed in...
Vulkan looked so much smoother in hand:(...
Some of the reasons I play Warmachine and Hordes is that the characters
themselves are very appealing in many different ways. Privateer Press explores
its world through its characters and the factions get new characters all the time
that change and alter the way a faction fights on the battlefield or affects the
fluff.
Hoarluk Doomshaper of the Trollbloods.
Magnus the Warlord of the Mercenaries
Madrak, World Ender of the Trollbloods
Lich Lord Venethrax of Cryx
Thagrosh, the Messiah of Everblight of the Legion of Everblight.
Commander Adept Nemo of Cygnar
Lieutenant Allister Caine of Cygnar
The Butcher of Khador
Strakhov of Khador
Kommandant Gurvaldt Irusk of Khador
Vice Scrutator Vindictus of the Protectorate of Menoth
Feora Priestess of the Flame of the Protectorate of Menoth
The High Reclaimer of the Protectorate of Menoth
Lich Lord Terminus of Cryx. Yep, he's standing on a 50mm base.
This is the guy I ran as a basic Tzeen Sorcerer Lord most recently (sadly not very effectively...), and I asked my sister to take a decent photo of him:
I've bragged about him before (because, frankly, I'm insanely happy about how he turned out), but here's my Interrogator-Chaplain. Have a storm bolter to the face.
Sorry about picture size... I don't have anything where I am right now to make them smaller for your viewing here. Follow the links to see the better versions and the fill photos.
Placed in spoiler box for your own sanity.
Dracon, old model. Now an Arcon stand in.
Custom Tyranid model. Can stand in as... well... anything I guess. Lots of greenstuff and scrap pieces to make this.
My two Comanders, Comander Starlite and Nitescar.
Dragon and Griffons shown with a Lion Chariot.
Griffon Prince. I LOVE that model, and so I HAD to get the ground pounder version too.
My Dragon, which can have the mage sit on him, or a prince. Got to love magnets.
Just a terminator captain with a few alterations. Might rebuy and make him more unique next time...
Arrogance, or in otherwords, the Master's Landspeeder.
I still have a few more that are better but haven't gotten photographed yet. One where I pulled out edging. Might go back and edge all my work now...

I lul'd.
OK, so here are my HQ's:
My C'tan: this is one of those situations where my actual painting is better then my photography. The blending on the robe is pretty damn good in person, certainly the best I've ever done. Here it just kinda looks black.
The base on the other hand I think I'll replace at some point.
Here is my Necron Lord:
He's converted to have the Staff of Light from Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, which is what got me into 40k in the first place.
None of my other HQ's are good enough to show off, frankly.
Here are the ones that i have pictures of. I'm sure i have more "HQ" type models around here, but they dont have pictures... yet.
Spoiler:
Converted Butcher/Slaughtermaster

And a couple of Dark Elves from Fantasy:
Spoiler:
Like i said, I have more 'HQ' models, but no more are individually photoed.
My custom made Eldar Farseer on Jetbike. Had to custom make most everything on here. It was a fun bitz project to work on, but I feel if I had more Eldar bitz to call my own it might have been a bit different.
LUNA! I prefered your old avatar, but anyway. That Mek looks really great! I love the fact that the controller of the suit is a grot and not an ork. You should play him with BS 3 not the usual 2!
I plan on going back and changing 1 set of the scything talons to the long claws that Daemonettes of Slannesh have, then give the daemonettes to a friend who plays chaos.
This is insanely cool, but probably underwhelming when he's a T4 model with 2 wounds and a 4+ armor save. I love projects like this but I'd hate to have him just get krumped by any random dude with a powerfist.
The mek is cool, and at the end of the day, sure its a nameless character that will get slapped down by any kitted out assault team, but he will look good doing it...
Some of mine anyway:
Vampire Counts: Nagash
and with his zombie minions
Spoiler:
Freddy von Kreuger:
Khalida (a one off)
and some more recent, round base madness
Te Emperah (a one off)
Generic BA Captain
Mephiston
Sanguinius
(+ a close up shot)
Spoiler:
Dante (my first attempt at A: Sculpting wings and B: NMM)
(close up)
Spoiler:
and how could a Time Lord not count as a HQ choice? (Present for my gilrfriends birthday)
Where did you get that Doctor who mini. I would love the eleventh doctor (maatt smith) mini. He is so awesome, I also love the zombies on the nagash mini!
Vindicare101 wrote:My first Cryx Warcaster, and my first time doing OSL.
has anyone gone so far as to use actual precious gemstones in the Necrons? Tourmaline would look very nice in their weapons, but it would make them into a couple hundred dollar mini
@McNinja/Vermillion, its actually a converted Reaper model that I have had for a while, the "wing" on his leg is GS, as is the Bangle badge on his chest, and the arms are built up from the cloth-like sleeves on the original model, but other than that... Keep in mind that he is on a 40mm base, so is a good 2cm taller than a terminator, wings notwithstanding.
I dusted the cobwebs off my DA case (seriously, there were literally loads attached to it!) and thought I'd share the few HQ selection models still relatively intact. Ranging from 2nd ed through to start of 4th for when I painted them . They're a bit worse for wear now, I may spend some time on them when I get the urge and touch them up and redo a few bits here and there.
2nd ed Librarian, thankfully I paint better now! Swapped his weapon for a plasma pistol upon seeing the changes after 2nd ed :(
Spoiler:
2nd ed Techmarine
Spoiler:
2nd ed apothecary
Spoiler:
Kitbash/small conversion work metal DA vet, used as company champ/ captain, storm shield has went AWOL, slightly chipped :(
Spoiler:
Command squad Sarge cos he is cool
Spoiler:
Rest of the command squad and a group shot, all based off the metal DA vets BP (before plastics )

Really nice IW Prince!! Any chance of a run down of the parts you used?
Appears to be made from a daemon prince and a khador juggernaut, plus some odd parts on its back (not sure what). Very nice idea, might have to copy some of them.
@winterdyne ...that is an amazing sculpt and paint job man ...truly truly impressive... but I wonder; if you are going to remodel the worst mini in the BA list, why not take away the elements that make him bad? ...the dark eldar sword, the Dee Snider hair, and the cheesy vampire collar? Well I guess it was a commission so someone must have asked for it this way. Anyway, you did an amazing job.
Aye, the client likes the original sculpt, it's just too damn small and not very dynamic. Doesn't fit the new model range. So it was a case of repose and upscale slightly, but keep all the signature details.
This is my HQ unit, Honour Guard Blood Angels with Stormshields Jump packs and an Assortment of PW, Thunder Hammer and Power Fists. Sanguinary Noviate at the front left.
GUYS! QUIT IT! You're not suppose to post anymore! You can't out do me! NOOOO!!!!
(To all above me: Great job! They all look so nice! These HQs must give you pride to field them on the plains of war! May the enemy quake in fear of your awesomely painted model and know their time has come...)

Farseer on Jetbike. Combined some High Elf pieces with Eldar to create this, and a little green stuff here and there. Overall, I'm proud of him, even if I've never fielded him...
Automatically Appended Next Post: Some more HQs I've been meaning to post up...
This is my World eater lord, a colour test for an upcoming project (one of many projects!)
I did however manage to knock over my tripod and break him while taking photos however, hence the missing axe!
I've got to say, that looks down right impressive! I love it! The forgeworld models always look so impressive when done right! Too bad they are so expensive for me to get...

HEY! You still live!
After supposedly 3 months of inactivity, apparently all it took was for me to post some pictures and BAM! It's back in business!
