Hi all !

I'm a french painter and player. I do play W40K but also some WHB, Mordheim and BFG.
A friend of mine told me about Dakka and I thought that posting on an english-speaking board could be a good occasion to practice my english.

EDIT : Now that my topic has been moved to P&M blogs, I'll post WIPs and so on. Feel free to comment, criticize, give advice. Say when you like. Say when you don't. Comments help me to get better and keep up the motivation.

Let's start with my main army, wich is an Ultramarine force. I gather troops from both the First and the Fifth Companies. Lately, I finished a 2000 points army list of First Company by basing all the old models on 40mm resin bases and doing all the hand painted banners and marking stuff.

So here it is :

If you like it, I have much more to show like vehicles (including V1 and V2 versions of dreadnoughts and Land raider for exemple), special characters and so on.
Hope my english isn't to bad.

Those are some really nice Ultramarines!
I like all the freehand text and symbols they're very nicely done and your English is not bad at all.

Absolutely mint!!! It's great when someone turns old models into masterpieces that are as good as the newer versions!

You've got a beautiful force of Ultras here! Have you considered running them as Deathwing or Loganwing forces? Wish I could paint blue as well as you do...

Thank you guys !

Indeed I love old school models. In fact most of all I love to mix several generations of miniatures and to "link" them by the painting.
In this army, you have old fashioned V2 plastic terminators, but also metalic ones. And the other half are from black reach and the current plastic kit.

As you guessed it thechosen1 I play this army with the Dark Angel Codex. It is not really competitive, but I think that it looks so good on the table.

Here are some closest views for those who want to see the details better :

(on this one, note the 25mm bases before I moved the terminators to resin bases)

Those AOBR terminators look terrific. At first I thought they were converted, because you must have done some thing to make them look so great. You did do something, you painted them incredibly well.
Awesome job man!

I'm glad you like them.

I played this army (painted) for the first time yesterday. I took some pictures during the game. I played with one of my friend who plays a Chaos army and does a nice paint job on his miniatures.
Not all the CSM are painted because he played some new units for the first time.

I swear to god I've seen that pic before, or maybe it's just deja vu as everyone plays SM and everyone paints them pretty much the same as these guys. Blue and white.

Apparently Canadians don't like Ultramarines. ^^
(french people generally consider them as the newbies army...)

I paint my marines in blue since the beginning of the 3rd version. And back in these days, Ultramarines didn't appear on every box and 'dex cover. ;-)

But maybe you're an heretic. Let's see if you prefer a true-scale pre-heresy Emperor's Children.
A friend of mine made the "true-scaling" work, I assembled it with my own bitz and painted it :

I need to add little free-hands on the shoulder pads to consider him as finished.

The highlighting is subtle and provides great affect on that Pre Heresy Marine, not sure about the pose though, looks like he's seething with rage and battlelust but not acting on it.

Something.more dynamic would suit. Awesome collection of models, keep up the good work.

How constructive and friendly!

While there is a stigma against Ultramarines as being a "newbie's army" it mostly has to do with the fact they're on the boxart of most Marine stuff. Most Ultramarines armies I've seen haven't been from newbies at all, but from experienced painters like the OP. OP, your work is absolutely stunning. You did a great job subtly modernizing the older figures with bigger bases and added height, and you made the AoBR Terminators look exciting and cool. Great painting all around!

LOL Sorry guys. I do dislike SM very much. Mainly because 3 out of 5 people seem to play them, I dont see much risk ever being taken with painting SM. Everyone just goes either, black, red, or blue and white. I also don't like them because they are overpowered and pretty much the Americans of the 40k universe. And although I like Americans I dislike thier politics and world policing and thier humongous military budget which gets used in all the wrong ways eg IRAQ WAR! And I just find them to be ridiculous and boring.

That being said! Your models are actually very nicely painted. They are really easy to look at. Like they just look really nice and the clarity of the picture and set up of the shot is worthy! So I do like the paintjob, just bored of that colour scheme.

And on a final note to say that Canadians dont like SM is ridiculous as there are 33/34/35 i dunno million of us. ITS JONESYBOY12 that doesn't like SM

Hope you can accept my apology for lack of insightfulness and etiquette on my original post. Thank you.

Bienvenue sur Dakka Dakka!

Nice models you have here!
While I generally despise ultramarines, your army looks really great, the old platic termies (from the space hulk 2nd ed?) blend perfectly with the rest of your army.

I also like your true scale marine, by "own bits" you mean you've sculpted the legs and torso? If so, congratulations man!

No need to apologize, the guys a troll. The "ultramarine hate" is about as funny as the never ending "Matt Ward" faux-rage: it isn't.

Your army look awsome. I especially like the weathered metallics onthe weapons, it is a nice look.

I like your Ultramarines. I think the True Scale model is a bit out of proportion, but I'm not the best judge on true scale (or proportions, I'm a terrible artist) so take my opinion with some salt. Awesome painting though!

This made me laugh. I sent you a PM concerning your hate about blue minis.

Hyenajoe wrote:I also like your true scale marine, by "own bits" you mean you've sculpted the legs and torso? If so, congratulations man!
Well, no. A friend of mine made the torso and the legs (and to be perfectly honest, he did the base too). I only picked up the plastic bitz I needed (arms, weapons, head and so on), glued this all together and painted it. I consider myself a correct painter, but I'm really bad as soon as I have to modify a miniature (green stuff and so are not my friends).

And of course thanks to all for the nice comments.

Ultramarines are not my only 40k army. I also play some orks. This army is painted quite rapidly, using dipping technics for exemple, in order to be able to play with them painted without having to wait for years.
Except on vehicles, that are painted "normally".

Here are three old version (metal) Killa Kans. I love them.

Hmm... I can show you these Lootas. As I said, the troops are dipped in order to paint this army rapidly.

Je cant croire my yeux, those son dipped?

Lol

- Go French Canadians!

Minus' minis !  @ 2011/11/06 11:28:18

Post by: Minus

^^
Yes, those are dipped. On this unit, I have tried to use some 'cold' colors (white, blue,grey-blue) that are often said to be inapropriate for dipping. But I find that it works well.

The last character I painted is a Disciplinary Officer that makes a perfect count-as Commissar. For those that could be interested, it is released by a french company : Warforge
She was sculpted by Steve Party (Golden demons winner) and cast in resin. And believe me, the details are incredibly fine (look at those laces and the nails on her top).

I wanted to use an original color scheme, in order to change from the classical red/black generally used on comimssars.

I appreciate that. I know that I don't have the skills (nor the time) to be an exposition painter. So my aim is to paint armies that look good on the table, in a reasonable time.

Dark Scipio wrote:I am very impressed. I really like the Commissar and the Ultramarines (please more), in special.
The Commissar mini is really really good. I don't say this because the firm that sell them is french, but honestly although I had seen photos before ordering I was amazed when holding it in my hands. Painting it was really a pleasure.
I'll show more Ultramarines, this is my favorite army. I have lot more to show, and lot more to paint. ^^

I had never seen this robot but it's true that the kind of "disc" on top of the weapon looks like the oneI put on my mini's gun !

Today, I wanted to show you one of my gretchins. This one is not dipped, I painted it to practice my painting. This mini is really tiny (less than 15mm if I recall correctly), it was interesting to try to put details on it, like the black squares on the hand-grenade, or the ribs on his torso. Oh, and I love to give red nose to my grots, the one on top of the killa-kan also has a red one. ^^

(and the link if the forum resizes the picture : http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/Jacobk/Figs/Grot-bastos_2.jpg )

Later, I will post photos of old miniatures because I love to mix current and OOP models.

Yep MrMerlin, the bases are quite simple. They were at the beginning only grey un black undercoat. But the latest ones have received several brown washes. So I'm currently improving the older ones in order to have them all at the same level.

Some news with my Space Crusade Dreadnoughts. I love these models, they remind me the videogames from my youth.

Minus' minis !  @ 2011/11/19 12:44:58

Post by: Minus

Hi !

Thank you guys.
In fact, lots of old models look great with "current" painting style imho.

The recipes for my blue are :
- For marines : black undercoat / necron abyss / mordian blue / ultramarine blue / highlight with a 50-50 mix of ultramarine blue with skull white.

- For the vehicules, as the surfaces are bigger there are more steps : black undercoat / necron abyss / mordian blue / ultramarine blue.
Now, I apply two thin washes on the lower areas of each plate following a vertical axis. First one is a mix of ultra blue plus snakebite leather. Then ultra with scorched brown.
And to finish the highlight with the 50-50 mix of ultramarine blue with skull white.

On this photo you can see how the washes are applied, especially on whirlwind front :

I know this is a WIP photo and this section is for finished painting, but it's the image I have were we can see this the most clearly.

Minus' minis !  @ 2011/11/22 17:57:44

Post by: Minus

These days, I have spent some time on my space marines in order to improve them. Some were painted almost 3 years ago, so I had to upgrade them.

Main part of the work was to put some washes on the bases, and overall to make all the markings (shoulder pads and so on).

The photo is not really good, but it gives a good idea of the freehands (no decals, all with my little brush).

@ All : thanks. Be sure that I'll keep painting, I have so much minis that need colors to be put on them. ^^

@ MrMerlin : yeah, you're right. Molding lines are my nightmare. In fact, I re-paint my old armies, so when I work on a miniature I start by cleaning those lines, but I always forget some and realize it as they appear during the painting process. >__< ^^

Beside my 40k armies, I'm also working on my Dark Elves. The idea with this army is to paint it fast, using only simple technics and with a strong color scheme.
I spend a bit more time on the characters, but troops are made without any complicated effect to save time. ^^

I need to paint a banner to finish them.

You cans ask any Mod (MajorTom11 and Insaniak for example) or use the mod alert in the right corner of a post, asking for a section modification.

Generally the P&M blogs section is more regularly followed, it's a great place to get feedback and share ideas and techniques.

Nice weathering on the hull.

Did you make the base yourself? And if yes, what did you use, pine bark?

Minus' minis !  @ 2011/12/10 12:19:01

Post by: Minus

Hi.
I love doing the weathering. It's the funniest part of vehicles painting IMHO.

The base is a resin base from Warforge (here and there). They have some really nice base ranges. I chose these ones as they fitted perfectly with my own classic bases (you know, sand with dry-brush and some washes).
I used their bases on my terminators too. Thanks to this I have re-based more than 20 minis in a single evening (all included, from the removal of the old bases to the end). If I had made those bases by myself (with pine bark) it would have taken much more time.

They also have other ranges that I really like. The alien ones are perfect for tyranids for exemple. And I plan to get some industrial ones because they work well beside the ones I have.

Hi all.
Just a word to say that this topic was moved here from the Showcase section. Thanks to the mod.

Now that my topic has been moved to P&M blogs, I'll post WIPs and so on. Feel free to comment, criticize, give advice. Say when you like. Say when you don't. Comments help me to get better and keep up the motivation.

If you're interested in WIPs of minis that are shown in the previous pages you can ask. I'll post them if I have the pictures.

Hello Compadre !

Yes I have loads of dipped models. My whole orks army is dipped, except for the vehicles. I chose this solution beacause I made a bet with friends of mine. We planned a 1000 points game with full painted army in the end of the month. And I started to paint my orks army the 1st. ^_^

The lootas shown page 1 are dipped. They are the latest unit that I dipped, and I'm really happy with the result. If you need some tips, just ask. Would be a pleasure to help.

New pix, with my version of Tigurius :

Minus' minis !  @ 2011/12/14 19:54:59

Post by: Lennysmash

Nice Tigurius, Minus. I'm liking the darker shades of blue here although I think the back portion of the tabard could do with some kind of design on it to break up the white. Maybe something like a line of the ultra omega's along the hem in black. Either way very fine work.

Minus' minis !  @ 2011/12/15 20:53:34

Post by: Minus

Thank you. In fact the blue is made of ink washes on a metallic base. This gives depth to the colors and interesting variations when the light reflects on armour plates.

I like the idea of adding a line or something so on the back of the tabbard. The mini is not varnished, so I'll probably do this. Thanks for the idea.

Minus' minis !  @ 2011/12/16 16:35:25

Post by: Lennysmash

No problem, thanks for the idea of using a metallic base. By the by if you are an owner of the Forgeworld Ultramarine decal sheet then you can save a ton of time on all that freehand by using their ready made lines of omega (sorry don't know the plural of omega).

Minus' minis !  @ 2011/12/21 23:09:11

Post by: Minus

Hi Lennysmash !
I do never use decals except on vehicles because I hate trying to apply them on shoulder pads. So as I was unable to apply them properly without turning mad I prefered... to paint them.
It forced me to practice free-hands, that's a good thing. ^^

Regarding the metallic armor, I paint all my special characters this way. I have allready painted Ortan Cassius and Marneus Calgar using this technique. I'll show these models later.
I also have step by step photos on Tigurius WIP, if someone is interested.

And for now I'm painting my two last Land Speeders to achieve my Squadron. WIP photos to come.

Nice true scale. maybe all they need are some bigger shoulder plate to look better!
and most of the works i see here are nice!

Minus' minis !  @ 2011/12/25 20:02:31

Post by: Minus

Thank you ! If I have a chance to paint another True-scale, I'll give him bigger shoulder pads, for sure.

As I said I am currently painting my two last speeders, this is how they look like this evening. I still have some work to complete them, but they start looking quite nice for me.

As always comments are appreciated. And merry Christmas to everybody, hope you enjoy these days.

Just a word to inform you that I have uploaded some of my pictures in the Dakka gallery. If some of you are in a mood to vote, it'll be appreciated.
Every feedback I get on my work helps me getting better.

It wasn't planned so at the beginning, but I have decided to paint the pilot of the speeder above with a dark skin. If anyone has tips for painting black people I am interested. ^^

Minus' minis !  @ 2011/12/27 14:23:44

Post by: MrMerlin

I paint black skin with a first layer of scorched brown, and then ill add more greys to it as i build up more layers. The grey is there to suggest age. in the end you can use a 4:1 grey/brown to paint wrinkles, if you want him really old. If you are painting someone young (like a scout) id suggest you use a warmer color than grey to build up the layers.....

Or use dark flesh for the firt layer, wash it badab black, and use nixes of dark fleh/brighter flesh colors to build up more layers.

Minus' minis !  @ 2011/12/27 16:23:16

Post by: Minus

Thanks for the tip of adding grey in the skin. I just did this on the heavy-bolter gunner (who is white ^^ ) and it worked pretty well, it gives him an aged look. I completed this with purple washes around the eye.

The pilot should look younger so I'll start with scorched brown and highlight it withe a beige I think.

Now I'll probably paint some OOP Orks. I have a dreadnought and also meganobz that are ready to paint. Any preference ?

Minus' minis !  @ 2012/01/06 11:20:00

Post by: Hyenajoe

I like the dark purple on Cassius' Armor, it's a nice touch and it changes from the usual black with grey highlights.

Your speeders and Calgar are also far above my painting skills! Good job!

I vote for the Meganobz next!

Minus' minis !  @ 2012/01/06 22:10:30

Post by: Minus

Meganobz ? Why not. ^^

I wanted to paint Cassius in black, but using another technique than the classical chaos black with codex grey highlights. I thought he deserved better.
So I tried a technic of inks washes on metallic base. I then used it on Tigurius and on Marneus, with different colors. For Cassius, it's black and purle inks washes, wich gives a very dark armour with purple glances where the light reflects.

On my favorite french forum, people said saw that I forgot the marking on the shoulder pads of the speeders crew and said that I HAD TO paint them.
So I obeyed and added some white freehands, and that's it :

Yes, happily beside encouraging me (wich is always really appreciated) some people point my mistakes.
It forces me to improve myself on several points. That's how I get better.

I would never have made any marking on my shoulder pads if other painters hadn't asked me again and again to do it. I tried, did it not too bad, and finally it was worth it. My army looks really better now. ^^

Models are really old and moulding is definitely not good quality. But I was happy to find them and decided to put some colors on them. I didn't paint big eyes and shark teeth on them though, preferred a more recent color scheme. ^^

yellow is very easy if you use GWs "lyanden darksun". Its a foundation paint.

Minus' minis !  @ 2012/01/14 15:58:19

Post by: Minus

I have started the yellow with tausept ochre. Indeed, the Foundation range made the painting of yellow and white possible on black undercoat. ^^
I wouldn't have chosen a yellow scheme without that.

I don't know if I have great skills as a painter, but I have made big progresses since I started (trust me, my first space marines would make you laugh ). And what is good is that I keep learning and improving my painting.
What I'm trying now is to paint faster without droping my painting level. Not an easy task, but it would help me a lot because I have lots of miniatures to paint. ^^

Arakasi wrote:Rusting is looking good. Will the wood stain bring some life to the yellow? (Looking a bit flat at the moment)

I hope so. ^^
Dipping is an interesting technic, but the inconvenient is that we don't know the final result until the mini is finished. And yellow is a color that I don't paint usually. These meganobz are a test, in a way.

MrMerlin wrote:How do you do the rust?

On my orks, I use the fast solution. I undercoat black. Then apply scorched brown overall except in recess and holes.
Then I take my old pencil, you know that kind of pencil that has several spikes instead of one good defined point, and "tap" (is that the correct word ? ) the rusted surfaces with an orange brown, like Calthan brown or bestial brown. The idea is that the way-to-old pencil will create random spots of random size on the mini. It's these spots of several colors that will give the rust its texture and depth.

Same, more lightly with snakebite leateher. Then orange. And to finish, I put some boltgun on edges, areas that are supposed to be exposed to frictions and so on. And that's it.
It's pretty fast and doesn't need much skills. This is a WIP of my lootas :

You, sir, are pure evil. The Prince of Excess has always had a hold over me and just when i think i've escaped, you pop up! It really has to depend on the next codex though, i can't stand what they did to us in the current edition.
If the next codex allows me to run Slaanesh Terminators with Sonic Blasters and Daemonettes not just 'Lesser Daemons' then i'll build a huge termi army.

Your orks look like battle hardened vets, they are going to look excellent when you get them painted up. Can't wait!

Thanks for the idea of adding other armour plates. On these ones it's too late because they are already half painted now, but I'll consider seriously doing so when I build some more !

On a french forum, friends told me that the cyboar rider looked good, but was too "brown" and their was missing some colors.
So I decided to put some white and pink on several areas :

Hope you like it.

I quite like the pink actually, it's refreshing to see orks beside an interesting colour for a change. That and the white add some nice colour flashes which brings the model up a level, maybe the new colours could use some more weathering though?

I've painted a mob of 'Ard boyz. For this squad I chose the purple as main color, it works pretty well for me. What do you think ?

The blood angel helmet and the tyrannid... thing... on the bases are in reference to some of my friends armies.

Also, I have received lots of PM asking me where to purchase Viktoria, but it was sadly out of stock :

Unbelievably cool! I've only ever been inspired to collect orks once before now. But your 'pink' orks make it twice, for some reason you never see orks with an interesting colour, particularly not ones painted as well as yours.

You can buy them at WarForge, like Viktoria (see a few posts above).
I'm done with the markings so I have finished painting them, anyway I really enjoyed painting the weapons. I had never tried this hot metal effect on meltas but I'm quite happy with the result.

Yep, green generally works well with purple and pink, although pink is not a color that is easy to put on "soldiers" models. But orks can wear anything and still look cool, you know. ^^
I hope tentacle pink will look good when dipped, I've never tried this already.

I use spray matt varnish for acrylics by pebeo. It's made for canvas painting normally, but it works perfectly on little plastic soldiers.
What I love with this varnish is that it is really really matt.

You're welcome Casey's soul !
And thanks Djinsk. I don't have an airbrush, but I heard that vallejo's matte varnish is pretty good. I should try this someday.

I need a nob for an upcoming game next week-end, so I started painted an old miniature from 2nd Edition. It was a special character that will be a perfect nob with power claw.
Of course it's only a WIP photo :

And also, I had one question in a painting topic about dipping. I copy the answer here since it might interest someone :

Grundz wrote:Minus: what are you using? my minwax walnut gives MUCH stronger effect than whatever you are using, I'm actually pretty shocked at the results you are getting

I use a wood stain I bought in a supermarket. It's the shop's brand "Carrefour" and the color is "Chêne rustique" (rustic oak in English). I don't know if this will help non french people though. But it's a simple stain that should be available in any country, under a name or another. It's a dark color, the product looks almost black but is a strong brown.
I dip the orks entirely in the pot, and then use a salad spinner to remove all the excess stain. So the dip remains mainly in the recess and only leaves a thin layer on the rest of the mini.

Some pictures of the process :
- Base coats :

- Dip the models :

- They look like that after their "bath" ^^ :

Doesn't look good at this stage, hu !

- Use the power of the spinner :

The models inside were not dipped, I used them to show how I lay my minis into the spinner.

After that you let dry for at least 48 hours, you finish the base and put some mat varnish. And you're done.

And a pix of the stain I use :

Post by: Minus

Thank you both !

@ Gitsplitta : no no, the tutorial itself was not posted in this thread yet. I'll post it only now !

How to achieve a pretty quick and - I hope so - convincing rust ? Let me explain how I proceed :

I always start painting on black undercoat, question of habits. To get a good effect I'll need several shades of brown, an orange of course, and a "silver" color. The colors I use are scorched brown, bestial brown, snakebite leather, blazing orange and boltgun metal.
These colors are not restrictive, you could replace the bestial brown wich is an orange brown with calthan brown for instance, or snakebite with another ocre color like Tausept ocre. You see ?

- I start with painting everything but the recesses in scorched brown.
- I then take an old brush with a f**ked up point to tap on the surfaces I want to rust with diluted bestial brown. This creates random spots of lighter brown all over the scorched brown.
- I proceed the same way with snakebite leather, but I restrain the areas to let the previous colors appear.
- Same with orange.

At this point, you should have a satisfying rust. Now, all we have to do is to reveal the metal under the rust. For this I use boltgun metal that I apply on all area wich I think would be subject to friction on a real object, like angles and edges, and also on random places as soon as it looks good.
You're done. The multiplication of the layers gives a textured effect. But each step is really fast.

Step by Step :

Exemples of the final result :
Depending on how much you insist on each color, you can get a more orange or a more dark rust. You can also use washes (devlan mud, wood stain) if you want.

Hope this helps ! If you have any question let me know !

I'm preparing my armies for some 6th Ed. tests, we've planned 1000pts games with some friends. It is a good opportunity for me to paint models I've not painted yet.

This is still in WIP, but I'm currently painting my Land Speeder Typhoon :

Awesomesauce wrote:Looks great so far! How do you achieve that effect? With the red and orange together it almost looks like fire or something. It's really cool!

I have to say that I like the "depth" this method gave to my red.
It's a succession of (lots of) thinned layers of paint, from dark to light (scorched brown, scab red, red gore, blood red), applied along the model following its moving direction. I did this with an old pencil so each "stroke" creates several lines instead of getting a smooth blending.
Not so complicated, it just takes time due to the number of layers that are involved. ^^

seanm222 wrote:Awesome idea using the salad spinner to get rid of the excess wash, very simple and effective, and you can do a ton of models at once! bravo!

Found that on a forum, Warseer or Dakka, can't remember. I tried this once, and then I never ever tried to dip without my salad spinner again. It works SO good.
And from this first time, I only broke 2 minis during the process (out of maybe 120) : one nob's boss pole, and electric wires on a loota.

MrMerlin wrote:Great work on the reds minus, it looks very orky. well done!

Hi everybody !

I'm currently painting tons of zombies for the board game Zombicide.
I made the bet that I could paint all the minis included in the box (around 110 models... ^^ ) before the end of November. Due to the number of walking-deads, I decided to go for speed painting on them. I'll paint the survivors (the heroes of the game) with more care, 'cause they deserve it.

I started painting last saturday, I'm now halfway with the brain-eaters, I'll just add some bloody effects on some of them in the end :

As I have... 96 zombies to paint and want to finish them very quickly in order to have more time to spend on the "survivors", I only use speed painting technics.

I prepared and based all the zombies. I used pre-shading, so I first applied a black basecoat, and then once dry a zenithal spray of white paint.
Then I paint the models with thinned layers of base colors, and dip them in wood stain. ^_^

I wait at least two days to ensure the wood stain is totally dry, and spray mat varnish. At this stage they are almost done, I only have to paint the bases, add details like the water or the newspapers, and of course the blood.
That's quick and easy, it doesn't require specific technical skills.

Thanks !
As it is quite an 'industrial' process to paint that much zombies in such little time, the details I do in the end like adding blood is definitely the funniest part of it all.

I have also painted an abomination, that is the deadliest zombie in the game :

Hope you'll like him too. ^^

I don't know that game (in fact, I don't know much about videogames) so I Googled it, and from what I've seen it looks pretty fun. ^^

Glad you're back.
All the comments like yours help me keep myself motivated. I hope to see your SAG painted some day. I love that model, it's damn cool.

I have started to paint some of the Survivors from the Zombicide boardgame. It's far from finished, but at least they're on the way :

Oh, and we had that game I talked about on Halloween night. After a long, hard and bloody struggle with the zombies, we were killed one by one 2 feet from the last objective. Damn walkers...

Great job on those survivors Minus... the guy in the green and orange cracks me up. Love the guy in the Slayer hoodie. I too picked up a zombie game for Halloween for the family to play. (the "Zombies!!" game) Fun, easy to play, not too graphic for the kids. First game I got eaten by the second zombie I encountered.... *sigh* I have resisted the urge to start painting the 100 tiny zombies though.

I like to read that. I started with this character (Ned) because he was the one I liked the less. And now that I have put some colors on him, I like it very much. ^^

It's good that you had a zombie game for halloween too. I played Zombies !!! several years ago, it was lots of fun. If I recall correctly the models are quite little (like 20mm), aren't they ?

Yesterday evening, I kept painting a little after watching some "Walking Dead" episodes.

Minus' minis !  @ 2012/11/07 11:22:39

Yeah, they're tiny... and only two types. Don't think it'd be worth it to try and paint them... besides, no one seems to care.

Love the distressing work on the blue jeans and the pants in general... wow, very life-like.

Oh, I learned a new word today. I didn't know that "distressing" could be used with this meaning ! Thank you. ^_^

You're successfully tricking my brain into imagining those textures are actually there and as far as i'm aware that's top of the rung painting! But we already new you were the best of the best.

That's no coincidence, the guys who made the game decided to make the survivors really stereotypical. I mean REALLY.
So you have a geek that looks like Sheldon Cooper, a cop that looks like Rick Grimes, another on is very similar to Bruce Willis. Add a Latino with two huge machetes (meet Machete), a goth Girl (hello Aby), a crazy Businessman called Doug (like in "Michael Douglas")... I doubt there's any coïncidence there. ^^
In the limited edition, you could even get... Chuck Norris. So sad I missed it. :-(

I'm not really used to paint clothes, I generally paint power armors or so on. So painting blue-jeans or converse shoes is definitely new to me.

Casey's Law wrote:I forget, do you have any Golden Daemons? If not you definitely should!

Haha, no I don't.
I didn't even enter such a contest yet. The only contest I ever took part was Gothicomp, an online painting contest about BattleFleet Gothic. I won the fleet category with my Imperial fleet, wich you can see in my dakka gallery.
To be honest, I don't think I have the required level for a Golden demon. But now because of you I'm thinking about entering next year... just for fun ! Let's see if I find a motivating project for this !

My WIP survivors, a few steps later (the skin is NOT finished, there's only a basecoat there ^^ ) :

At first I wanted to paint him a Flash T-shirt, but then I saw his Green Lantern one. As I don't paint green that often (as opposed to red, that I always use) I had a go on it !
Happy that BBT fans appreciate that.

I am really happy with Rick. I had really NO IDEA how to paint him, particularly what colors to use for his uniform. And in the end it turned out pretty good.
Considering Rick is my favorite character in the game, with Bruce Willis (seems that I like cops ^_ ^ ), I feared I could paint it quite bad, but I didn't. The more I was painting him, the better I liked him.

Casey's Law wrote:Oh man! That's it, next year i'm going to give you some money, and your going to paint me something. Just so you know in advance.

Haha, don't worry man i was half joking anyway. Although i would certainly consider it at some point next year if you were up for doing a one off. If you're not into the commission thing maybe i could trade you for something. I don't know if i have any skills that you could use though, my painting is pretty rough. Conversions maybe?

I'm not against doing commissions, I just never thought about it. If I have an occasion to paint an interesting mini and make some money in the process, then why not.
I don't think I'll ever paint an entire army, though. I have too much armies to paint for myself.

Anyway, I'm really pleased that you like my paintings, and I'll try to do my best on the next models !

From the Bio on his IMDB page. (discussing how he started acting)

Then this other guy comes over and says, "Hey, you're Danny Trejo. I saw you win the lightweight and welterweight title up in San Quentin." And I go, "Yeah. You're Eddie Bunker." I had been in prison with him. And he was a writer. We started talking, and he asked, "Are you still boxing?" And I go, "Well, I still train." And he said, "Do you want a job? We need someone to train one of the actors how to box." And I said, "I got a job. They're going to give me 15 bucks for acting like a convict. What's this pay?" He said, "It pays $320 a day." So I said, "How bad do you want this guy beat up? gak, for 320 bucks-" And he goes, "No, you have to be really careful, this actor's really high-strung. He's already socked a couple of people." I said, "For $320, man, give him a stick. I'll fight Godzilla for 320 bucks." I started training Eric Roberts how to box. Eric wanted to learn how to box, and I think he was scared of me, so he'd do whatever I told him to do. Andrey Konchalovskiy, the director, saw that he would do whatever I told him to do. I guess Andrey had some problems with it. So Andrey comes over and hires me. He says, "You be in the movie. You fight Eric in the movie." And that's where it started. From that day until right now, I've got 183 movies.

Funny... and amazing all the same. Came to the set to give someone drug counseling and left with a new career. Guess it's more of a story than a quote, but you get my drift.
