What are yours? I was reading the thread on weird snake behaviour and it gave me a bit of the creeps when researching the type of snake mentioned. It got me wondering as to what other people have fears of. For me heights and small spaces seem to be my worst with snakes, needles and spiders are at some degree or another: can cope with small spiders and tattoo needles not any big spiders but getting better on needle front.

That is certainly an unusual one, currently in my flat all the doors except bedroom and front are open, and normally stay like that for the most part.

I don't know about phobias, but I'm terrified of heights, don't like spiders (though it's not a debilitating fear) and (and this one is weird) large sea creatures that aren't whales, and I can actually trace the origin of that one; the natural science museum where I grew up has some kind of giant model of an ancient crustacean. It's actually only about three feet long, if that, but when I was five or six it looked more like 100 feet.

Ever since I saw that, I've felt very uncomfortable around large sea animals; even the giant eel in Mario 64 disturbed me a bit. Fortunately.... well, when the hell am I ever going to be around giant sea animals? (famous last words...)

worms and slugs and caterpillars. I've gotten used to them, and I can come close to a caterpillar, and it will make my hairs rise to needlepoints and try to kill the catterpillar, but I can come near it and be fine. I can't stand discovering a worm when I'm digging, and I have a special loathing for slugs. I will try to kill them if I can, but then I usually spend two minutes scraping my shoe against concrete to make sure I got all of it off.

Spiders - 'nuff said.

I'm not sure if i'm arachnaphobic or not, because tiny ones I can ignore, medium sized start to make me feel very uncomfortable, and big ones just freak me out.
I'm honestly glad I don't live in a country that has 'effing huge tarantulas & similar, because in all honesty, if I came across one of those - I really have no idea what I would do.

Heights, drowning (did once, got the image of it burnt into my mind and took a little while to actually willingly swim again as it would haunt me anytime I got near a pool or such, but did anyway (was 8 and my Mum had already paid for the swimming lessons (she didn't know it had happened) so I had no choice but to as there was no refunds )) and crowds. All of which I deal with by concentrating elsewhere to the point they're not really there at all. Though height is the harder one for me.

As for stuff like spiders and snakes, like anyone else should be, cautious around them and maintain distance from the rather poisonous ones. The poisonous ones do mess with me though, if I spot one I need to remove it or know where it is.

One Miiinuutteeee- Thinking why I volunteer to do this.

OUT BOARD PERSONNEL STAND UP! INBOARD PERSONNEL STAND UP! knees a bit weak..maybe from all the equipment in my rucksack thats making me tired...I know I didn't go over 45 lbs.

HHHOOOOKKKKK UUUPPPP!! Holy Mother of all Gawd am I'm really going to do this?

CCHHHEECCKKKKK EEQQUUIIPPPMMEENNNTTTT! Check leg straps make sure not one of my boys is under a strap....and damn...I have to pee....

SSOOUUUNNNDDDD OFF FOR EQUIPMENT CHECK!! Ass clinch tight cause the guy behind me going to show how brave he is when he smacks your ass like a porn star....you do the same to the guy in front of you....I'm really doing this for how much again?

Last guy slapped says "ALL OKAY JUMPMASTER!" No backing down now. Oh....My....Good...get me off this plane...I have to pee so bad...and the shoulder straps are really digging in.

Old way "STAND IN THE DOOR!" Did one of my boys slide back under the strap?

GREEN LIGHT GO!! Stumbling to the door mind almost blank. The thought of "I don't want to" is there. Reality is go out the door yourself or the guy behind you going push you out.

think I OT here

I always get made fun of for this but... missing limbs. Not sure what it is but anyone with a missing finger, arm, leg and so on.

Its gotten so bad that at one point while my wife and i were leaving a department store the greeter at the door was missing her arm from just below her elbow, I couldnt go anywhere near her we had to stay there for almost two hours casue I would freeze up in panic if i got to close. We finally left when some one asked the greeter for help and she moved far enough away from the door so i could hurry and run out.

I really hate this fear too. Mainly cause i feel bad for the way i act around these people by hurrying and moving as far away as i can because i know its not their fault that they lost the limb and there is nothing they can do about it now.

I used to be Auto-phobic (fear of oneself), now i just get creeped out by things. I hate velvet, it gives me shivers up my spine and I feel weird for awhile afterwards. And I hate roaches. I'm not scared of them, I know they're harmless, and in fact very clean. But I've woken up to them crawling all over me too many times and I really don't like them now.
Also needles. Or rather, I don't like losing a part of myself. So I'm a little bit 'meh' about getting an injection (still dont' like it though) but if you need to remove a tooth, or take blood I'd really rather not.
I have the opposite of a fear of hieghts. I fell out of a tree when I was a kid, didn't get damaged and loved it ever since. I actually have to stay away from ledges that are too high due to my tendency to get -way- too close.

Depends what kind of knife we're talking about here. A Swiss Army? Fine. A Small Climbing (>3 Inches)? Fine! A K-Bar? A bit excessive.

That being said, I do carry around a Gerber Multi-tool. 1.5 inch knife, screwdrivers, pliers, everything I need for sailing/work around the house.

Why does that sound so much like a xenomorph?

I need to find and kill some spiders now. To keep them from becoming more powerful.

Please don't, I have 4 beautiful tarantulas and a breeding pair of emperor scorpions. I can't see why people can't appreaciate their beauty...

I have a tarantula called Beatrice, Beatie for short.

I dislike scorpions and millipedes but I don't fear them, I think its just the exo skeleton that weirds me out.

I'm rather afraid of the stove burning the house down so that I have to check to make sure its off even when it hasn't been used in days.

The way spiders walk freaks me out. They also have a horrible habit of popping out of nowhere when I least expect them.

I had one start going up my leg while on the toilet the other day, scared the hell out of me. Good job was already there otherwise...

I hate heights with a passion, probably coz I feel 15ft out of a tree when I was younger, missed breaking myself on a wooden plank below the tree by inches. (surprisingly nothing more than bruises!)

I love water though, despite almost drowning twice. Once when I was younger in a swimming pool when they turned on the waves in the deep end, and I kept going under, and once when I was sailing a small boat after about 4 weeks of learning (about 15 hours of experience) and this storm came out of nowhere and flipped the boat. That was actually surprisingly fun. But then I'm strange like that.

This too.

If my feet can't touch, I'm not going in.

...I love boating/fishing though...

Pah. Swimming is as awesome as boating.

QFT, love swimming. And we're related to dolphins, so swimming should be natural!

I actually sleep well at night. Its not because I have a 9mm in the night stand drawer nor the M4 leaning against the wall nearby within reach. Nothing more reassuring then chambering a round in both weapons when my wife think its someone in the house.

My Phobia is Driving, honestly. But only because I was in an incident :x.

Also, Arachniphobia + Insecophobia ((Ironic, as I play Nids))

More importantly, where are these burglars that require two firearms to stop coming from?

Mine is pitch darkness. I actually can't walk around in my house at night without flipping on damn near every light switch between my room and wherever I'm walking to (usually the kitchen). I can only fall asleep if I leave the TV on since I know it's glowing on the room.

I am a fearful person. I dislike heights but I did manage to do an 18.5metre free fall drop thing. Twice.

I do avoid bees but I do not fear them as such.
Other fears are small spaces, spiders and chaos daemons.

Bicycles, but only when I can hear them behind me but cant see them..... I feel they have the potential to do so much damage. Oh and when people watch me walk it gives me the creeps... Like they're predators trying to assess wether I'm a weak member of the pack. Love spiders though, or at least displaying them to those that cant stand them.

Idk what it is, but I can't get near bugs or even kill them. The very sound of a bug being crunched underfoot makes me cringe...

Not a phobia, but certainly an irrational hatred. I enjoy studying marine biology, all phylums. I LOVED scuba diving, every second, including the sharksucker that was very interested in me (it was a little freaky under water, but cool to look back on). But once while snorkeling, jellyfish appeared in the water. Nothing bad, just some variety of Cassiopea. I now fething. Hate. Jellyfish. They're cool to study, but when you're in the water, you can look around and mentally note where all local jellies are, go down, resurface 3 feet away, turn around, and BOOM! 1 inch form your face. I enjoy studying them, but I hate swimming with them.

Comb Jellies are awesome, though. Like little "Phi Phenomenon" lights, in the water.
