What is Brushfire? A skirmish game from On The Lamb Games, featuring a historical fantasty/parody setting using animals to represent history's greatest armies.
How many models do I need? A standard game is 100 to 200 Resources, which is around 10 to 20 models depending on the models you choose to play with.
Resources? Is that not just Points? In a way, but Brushfire uses 3 Resources for its point costs: Food (FD), Lumber (LR), and Gold (GD). Food is used to buy troops, Lumber and Gold are used to upgrade their equipment or purchase Siege Weapons and Fortifications. Resources always start out equal so when you play a 100 Resource game each player has 100 FD, 100 LR, and 100 GD to spend on your army. Some armies have abilities that allow them to shift resources from one type to another.
Do I need to get some sort of codex or army book? No, the Brushfire rulebook includes all rules (and base sizes) for eight factions.
What factions are in the rulebook? Aquitar - Based off Napoleonic France
Axony - Based off Napoleonic/Zulu Wars England
Chugoku - Based off Three Kingdoms Era China
Civitas - Based off of Spain/Italian Conquistadors/Explorers
Ribenguo - Based off of Warring States/Meiji Restoration Japan
Scyzantium - Based off of Persia and the Ottoman Empire
Vandalands - Based off of Napoleonic and Medieval Germany/Prussia/Scandinavia
Zabar - Based off of Zulu Africa and the Boers
How much of that is currently released? As of June 2012..
Aquitar - 5 Troops, 2 Heroes, 1 Non-Unique Exemplar.
Axony - 3 Troops, 1 Hero.
Chugoku - 1 Troop, 1 Hero | 2nd Troop and 2nd Hero being sculpted.
Civitas - 4 Troops, 1 Exemplar, 1 Hero.
Ribenguo - 3 Troops, 1 Exemplar, 1 Hero.
Scyzantium - 1 Troop | 2nd Troop and 1st Hero being sculpted.
Vandalands - 3 Troops, 1 Hero | 4th Troop being sculpted.
Zabar - 2 Troops, 1 Hero.
What do I need to get started? Pick a faction that appeals to you and get their Warband. Each of the Warbands contains a 25 point army, a Hero, Quickstart Rules, and 3D10; everything a single player needs to get started for only $35
How can I try it for Free? Head over to WargameVault, and download the PDF Quickstart Rules and Paperfire miniatures.
Can I use Paperfire in an official Tournament? No, you'll need proper Brushfire miniatures for all On The Lamb Games sponsored tournaments.
What is Historia Rodentia? Historia Rodentia is a sourcebook for Mongoose Publishing's Legend (RuneQuest II) roleplaying system, allowing adventurers to create characters suitable for and explore the world of Brushfire.
Honey Badger Barbarians?? They need to have some kind of special rule...maybe ignoring a wound or failed moral (or wahtever you may call it) test...because everyone knows "the honey badger dont give a xxxx".

Cyporiean wrote:Mongoose Publishing has issued their 2011 ‘State of Mongoose’, and in it you will find the announcement that On The Lamb Games will be updating the Battlefield Evolution/Starship Troopers game system and adapting it to the Brushfire setting.
What does this mean for Brushfire players?
Current and future players of Brushfire will get a new way to play, and a second system to use their models in. The Brushfire skirmish game is not going away, and in fact we are working on additions to it. What will happen is Mongoose will be handling production of the miniatures and the printing of the as of yet untitled mass battle game. This will mean that its much easier for players of both games to acquire models. While several units will be re-sculpted to handle the transition to non-metal casting, no unit from Brushfire will be removed from play and their will be nothing saying you cannot use older models.
What will be different in this new game?
The biggest difference is the change in focus from skirmishes between warbands and small expeditionary forces to full on warfare between armies. Fans of major battles, such as ‘The Battle of the Ice’ or ‘The Massacre of Cordoba’ will be able to more easily recreate them on the tabletop. The initial book for this game will focus on the same area as the Historia Rodentia sourcebook for Legend: Aquitar, Civitas, Scyzantium, and Vandalands. These factions will be feature expanded rosters bringing in troops from Khonshu, The Knights Bubonic, etc. Axony, Chugoku, Ribenguo, and Zabar will not be part of the initial releases, but will receive quick lists to allow players to easily convert their Brushfire armies over. These factions are not being dropped, we just won’t have the space needed to properly fit them into the core book without doing an inadequate job. Players of these factions can look forward to Highland Folds, Honey Badger Barbarians, Sohei Frogs and so much more.
What does the future hold?
In 2012 you can look forward to more Brushfire releases from On The Lamb and Mongoose including the Legend sourcebook in May and hopefully several small supplements for it at the same time. We’ll be continuing to write on adding to and improving the skirmish game as well as the roleplaying and mass battle games. 2012 onward is looking great for Brushfire fans!
Whoa, this is pretty big news, right? Congrats on the partnership, if I'm reading this correctly! Seems mutually beneficial (for everyone, really). Really looking forward to seeing your stuff in-person at Adepticon, and maybe trying a demo and seeing if it's for me

Yeah, really big news for us
Looks like I'll be showing off two systems for Brushfire at Adepticon...
Killer news! I was happy to take part in your Black Friday promotion and loved the rules and miniatures for Brushfire. Having a partnership like this should do nothing but expand the player base for Brushfire which is great.
Wow! Excellent news and congratulations must be in order. Just to clarify for the slow of brain (ie. me) I can order miniatures from Mongoose for the mass battle game and they will be usable/compatible in the skirmish game (and vice versa)?
Either way, the future looks bright for Brushfire fans - great stuff!

Yes, and vice versa. Think of Brushfire as Mordhiem to this new game's Fantasy.
The only thing that will be changing is that Mongoose will be casting the minis and printing the books (Aside from the skirmish version); Same artists, same sculptors (plus some more!). But in the meantime everything will still be available from us, and we'll most likely continue to release more specialist/alternate miniatures. I do not yet have any firm idea of when the switch over will happen, but I'll try to make sure Mongoose actually gives us plenty of time to announce it.
Since Axony, Chugoku, Ribenguo, and Zabar are not in the first book, they will be continued to be produced by us. Those four will receive temp lists for the new game, most likely as a free and very dull looking PDF with only the Brushfire units listed, and will be brought up to speed as quickly as possible. They aren't being squated, its just with what we have planned for this new game it would only make all of the factions suffer if we tried to squeeze them in as well from the start.
RiTides wrote:The "new" game sounds absolutely amazing...
And you think it might "release" in a way before Adepticon (in time to demo it, as you mentioned?)?
Doesn't there need to be more time to sculpt/cast/etc?
I'm pretty stoked about this!
Since it'll use the same models as Brushfire(I'll just need to bring More then usual), I could in theory show it off at Adepticon. We should be done/mostly done with the rules by then, and then its just fluff, art, and playtesting to deal with. No idea when the actual release will be, sometime post-Gencon is more likely.
Wow, this is excellent news. I've been hoping to see more Warhammer-scale (Mass battle? As opposed to skirmish) games out there... the only ones I know of that are still supported by their creators are Kings of War, Warpath, and Wargods of Aegyptus.
Brushfire's always been on my radar, but this announcement has bumped it up quite a few pegs.
We're still figuring out titles.. while at breakfast yesterday (yay for Bob Evans B1GB Breakfast!) Matt & I came up with a few (mostly bad) ideas...

Btw, enjoying the Brushfire rule book, will get some models as soon as done ogres. That gattling gun is a definite purchase if similar to concept - I like the running loader, I hope that pose makes it to the final product.

i really want to play as Rodent Zhang Jiao
Chugoku has sadly had very little interest (your the 2nd or 3rd person to ask about them), so they've been low priority. Should get some Flying Boxers and Lem Han next year.
Was looking at the "State of the Mongoose" link from the OP and this part that the OP refers to:

As mentioned under the Legend RPG, a chance encounter at Gen Con led us into talks with On The Lamb Games to produce a new version of their animal-based wargame and help it reach wider distribution. No release date has been set, and there is a fair bit of work to do yet (On The Lamb are currently looking at converting it to the Battlefield Evolution/Starship Troopers rules set), but at the moment we are looking around the bottom end of 2012 for release. Again, keep an eye on our web site (and On The Lamb’s!) for news and previews.
It will probably come down to this or The Hobbit game from GW (if that happens) to be my "army level" project in, say, 2013... and I know I'd rather have it be this!
Will you be continuing to update this particular thread with news as you progress? Looking forward to hearing progress, although I'm sure it will be a long process to reach that goal.

Since there is a movement towards having smaller companies having a single thread for all of their news.. yes, it will most likely all be in this thread.
Current info:
Warclaw (working title)
The system is based on Starship Troopers/Battlefield Evolution, incorporating elements from both to bring it to a 3rd edition.
Rules/Fluff will be written by OTLG, release will be handled by Mongoose Publishing.
Six Factions from the Brushfire world in the initial release.
Keep an eye for our convention appearances during 2012 to see it action... Dakkacon... Adepticon... Gencon...
If you guys make it out to DakkaCon at the end of January, that'd be awesome!
Also just spent several minutes trying to Ctrl-F search for this thread based on the previous title . The new one is better for an ongoing N&R thread, though!

Short of something unfortunate happening, we should be at Dakkacon with one or two Portable Warfare bags full of Brushfire minis.. Brushfire is a definite, Warclaw is a possibility
The Shrew Hussar green just arrived to OTLG! This is one of our most anticipated releases, so we're going to try to get it casted asap. Since we can usually get 3 models in the master mold, the Sand Guard will go out at the same time.
Both of these will be up for preorder shortly, just gotta get some pictures taken of the Hussar.
I don't have a price atm, but keep in mind the Sand Guard is a big boy..
Prices are not set in stone and may change (up or down) once the final costs come in, but by preordering you won't pay a cent more. In addition, anyone who preorders a Shrew Hussar/Carbineer Squad Box will get an additional Shrew Hussar/Carbineer included!
Now there are a few of you who have the Brushfire Rulebook and are going.. the feth is a Shrew Carbineer? Its a new unit for Aquitar, Carbine using Shrews riding Kiwis
Bits Break Down:
Spoiler:
Kiwi - 4 Parts: Legs, Body Half A, Body Half B, Head
Shrew -2 sets of Arms, 6 Heads, 2 Pistols, 2 Rifles, tail, Body, sword hand, empty hand.
Just for any UK gamers waiting to try Brushfire or eagerly awaiting a UK stockist, it seems Crystal Games & Books is up and running now initially and have their web store sorted. At the moment, they have a small selection of stock, hopefully we will see some more in the future.
I am so behind the curve! Maybe it's just that I can't figure out how to use your website, but I haven't been able to find pictures of hardly any of the miniatures. For example, the one on the left here seems to be currently in production (i.e., not one of the new ones you're anouncing!) but I haven't seen it before...
Is there a site with a comprehensive list with pics?
Also, the one on the left of this, is that a WIP or one currently in production, too?
All that aside, the Shrew Hussar is So Cool!! I do find myself more drawn to the little guy in the first pic I posted, and the turtle thing on the left of this one, though, for my own faction . Not sure which factions that is, though

That's the Kernish Terrier, one of Axony's models came out at Gencon this year, and the model to the left is Aquitar's Badger-At-Claw (unpainted)

Thanks! It's been forwarded to the wife for an after-the-event Christmas present idea. I really want to see how this guy scales against my own sculpts!
That giant kiwi is going to be popular over here in New Zealand (home of the real kiwi, in case you didn't know) - just a shame they don't come in a variety of poses, as a whole kiwi cavalry army would be a hoot.
The 2012 update for the Brushfire world map poster is now live on Zazzle. This incorporates the updates made in 'Historia Rodentia' and 'Warclaw' to bring it up to the current in game year of 1825AF, and is also available to view in a lower res in our gallery.
Yes, here at http://crystalgamesstore.bigcartel.com in the UK we are taking pre-orders for Brushfire. As well as selling this great game, we'll also be doing a series of articles on our website over at http://crystalgamesstore.wordpress.com discussing everything from painting warbands and armies to tactics and even campaign settings.
All orders won't be shipped till mid january so as a thank you for your support we are giving 5% off your entire order when you use code CRYSTALMADNESS This only lasts till January 14 so get your orders in quick.
Thanks guys! If you have some free time we'd appreciate it if you could throw a review up on Wargame Vault, doesn't have to be much, just some stars and a sentence or so... might help further sway people to purchase
Hey folks, our restock was late, but its finally arrived.
We've gotten all of our backorders mostly packed up and ready to go; I unfortunately have to wait for the print shop to open in the morning as I didn't realize beforehand we'd run out of some of the cards/cover inserts. Once we get them printed up the orders will ship out. Most likely by noon today EST.
Since we focused on getting back orders taken care of the website's inventory isn't going to be accurately reflecting whats in stock.. but if you place an order, it should be in stock now... Until our UK stockist, Crystal Games & Books, clears us out again later this week.
Our caster now has the Shrew Hussar and Sand Guard, so we should have the metal masters in a few weeks along with finalized prices. If we're really lucky we may even have the masters in time for DAKKACON, but I doubt it.
Work on Warclaw is progressing well, We've begun building the playtester packet and intend to have that done by the end of the month so that playtesting and art can begin in February. I'll try to have that with us at DAKKACON as well.
We've got Daniel, our lead sculptor, slaving away on a new project and have seen some WIP of the sculpts. It's completely different from Brushfire... Noah has done a fantastic job on the artwork... More on that at GAMA Trade Show.
It's great news to have a UK stockist up and running - best of luck to Crystal Games & Books with their new endeavour; it can be hard work starting up a new small business so kudos to them for taking the plunge.
Looking forward to more Brushfire/Warclaw in the UK too, of course!
While we ended up not being able to make it to Siege of Augusta this weekend, one of our fans was there to pick up the slack and ran demos and a small tourney. He posted a battle report onto our forums, but you can be lazy and read it here

Status of the Lamb
Brushfire sales have been increasing, as has the number of stores carrying the line. We’d like to thank all of our fans, you’ve been a great help in promoting the game. A huge thanks goes out to Crystal Games & Books for being our first supplier in the UK! Lets keep the trend going and spread Brushfire even further!
Historia Rodentia
For 2012 we’ve got several things planned and put into motion. First up is “Historia Rodentia”, the supplement for Mongoose Publishing’s RPG “LEGEND”. Legend is a d100 system based on the classic “RuneQuest” system, and Historia Rodentia is the first supplement to cover roleplaying in the world of Brushfire. Players will be able to create characters from the nations of Aquitar, Civitas, Scyzantium, and Vanadalands. Future books are planned to cover the rest of the world. Historia Rodentia will be released in May by Mongoose Publishing in both softcover and PDF.
Mysterious Project: EFT
2012 will also feature our first non-Brushfire related release since Legendary Realms in ‘08. While we’re keeping the project under wraps for now, you can expect to see previews and a ton of information after GAMA Trade Show in March.
New Game: WARCLAW
Our last currently planned release for 2012, and the biggest release of the year for us, is our other joint project with Mongoose Publishing: “WARCLAW.” A new take on the Brushfire setting and moving from smaller skrimish matches to large all-out-warfare; Warclaw is a new miniatures game using a revised version of Mongoose’s “Starship Troopers” and “Battlefield Evolution” game system. Much like how their release of “A Call to Arms: Star Fleet” resculpted the Star Fleet line of miniatures, you can expect the same for a number of Brushfire releases. You’ll be able to use models from either line in both systems, but Mongoose’s resources will allow us to produce higher quality models and alot of stuff we wouldn’t be able to otherwise release for sometime. The Initial factions being covered by Warclaw will be Aquitar, Axony, Civitas, The Federated States of Vespuccia, Scyzantium, and Vandalands. Each with a number of new units and classic Brushfire units. An exact date is not set for Warclaw, but playtesting is underway and its looking like an end of year or early 2013 release.
Brushfire
So where does this leave our flagship, Brushfire? In a good place in our opinion. We’ll be continuing to support Brushfire with new releases, and with Mongoose’s Warclaw line you can expect to have a lot of options for your armies. While Ribenguo, Chugoku, and Zabar are not currently part of Warclaw, that just means we’ll be focusing on giving them new releases while Mongoose handles the rest of the factions. We’re also planning on doing a major update to the stat cards later this year, switching to a double sided playing card size card that is a little cheaper to produce and easier to manage. With the release of Warclaw, we’ll also introduce a few new playable factions to Brushfire.
Automatically Appended Next Post: We've also added a poll to our Brushfire Facebook page asking about Ribenguo's Wanderers:

No new edition of the rulebook yet, aside from the 2nd printing last year that included the errata. (1.1 on Page 1, The back cover is grey rather then Orange)
Brand new unit, but since all of the units come with cards for their stats and rules you'll be fine
JetKinen wrote:So, do you have any information on the animals of the American(Vespuccia, i do believe) faction?
Also, there are 3/4 Mexican factions?
These factions aren't in the game just yet, but are talked about in the Fluff. The Federated States will be featured in Warclaw, so its got the most 'set' things in it, the others may change by the time they are developed into full factions.
For North/South America (Vespuccia) there are the following groups:
The Dominion of North Axony (Canada)
-Beavers, Moose
The Federated States of Vespuccia (USA)
-Dogs, Cats, Raccons, Gators, Opposums, Star Nosed Moles, Prairie Dogs, Gila monster
The Republic of Armarillo (Texas)
-Armadillos
The Republic of Xalepena (Mexico)
-Bats, Squrriels, Weasels
New Civitas (Spanish Colonies of South America)
-Capybara, Mice, Chipmunks, Cavy
Jaguero Empire (Mish-Match of the various nations of South America before the Europeans)
-Jaguars, Chinchilla

With metal costs ever on the rise, we've been looking in alternates. As we are a small company its not possible for us to go to hard plastic models yet, so the option for us is Resin. We are not planning on switching the full line to Resin currently, just the larger more expensive for us to produce models. The first of which is the Capybara Capitaine, the first cast of which is shown in this post. If production goes smoothly for him, we'll be releasing them for sale in the next few weeks, (This will replace the current metal blister and the one contained in the Civitas Warband, and should lower the price on the blister) and we'll look into replacing a few more high priced items such as the Shaka War Hogs.
One of the guys getting into brush fire at my LGS LOVES the idea of zabar since he gets elephants. If this is a sign their is the works right now, he's going to be a very happy camper..

Yes, Loxodon is planned for release sometime this year. (Due to the size of the model we're not planning a separate generic Ivory Chief model at this time.) We're just in the process of figuring out who is going to sculpt him.

Your not following the GW example, your supposed to switch to resin and raise prices, not pass your savings on to you customers. What kind of customer service do you think that is? *wink*
The resin model looks cool!! Glad the ones I ordered are staying metal, though... I guess I'm just old school . Slowly adapting to resin models myself, though, and when there's a cost savings, it totally makes it worth it!
Also makes converting a lot more possible, which is good when the models are just coming out

We've also gotten the first batch of new style stat cards in:
This will be included with the Aquitar Warband from now on, and we will be moving the rest of the range to this style of card over the next few months. We plan on making the cards available to current players, we just don't have a timetable for that just yet.
Whao. The price drop on the Capybara Capitaine is pretty nice! I also could imagine it's alot nicer to put together in resin then it is as a huge metal. XP
I don't know if you mention or not if the Sand guard and Shrew Hussar/Carbineer will be getting the resin treatment too? Or will they be metals for now/resin latter?

Metals for now. We're not dropping metal completely, just using Resin as a means to lower costs on the larger models.

Oh whao. Look forword to when that starts happening. Untill then I'm going to look forword to the chew Hussars/Carbineer. I collect both Vanderlands and Aquitar, so I'm going to need quite a few of them.

In light of recent customer inquiries and feedback, we have instituted a new policy aimed at providing the same high end service and quality you have come to expect from a proper maker of fine miniatures. I will soon post the a link to my PayPal account so that interested parties can spend the extra 5-10$ one would expect to pay for a large, finely cast model. Implementation will be costly, but we feel that it is important that we give you, the customer, every possible thing we can to ensure your happiness.
We're hoping to have the switch out to the new style completed by April, and then begin offering replacements in the same manner as Privateer Press ($0.50) online and at Conventions (Starting with Adepticon).
If there is demand, we'll see about doing Faction Decks as well.
All the gamers at my regular store are well aware of my investment in Brushfire/Warclaw... hopefully when I get the models together after picking them up at Adepticon, some of them will be tempted in, too
Thows new cards look great! I'm going to have to replace all of mine in march. XD I've managed to get a few other's interested in starting and we're all doing a combined order in march.

Heath is working on the artwork needed to replace the rest of the cards now, and we hope to upgrade the rest by the end of April.
We should be previewing artwork from the second RPG book around then as well...
There has been a slight delay in getting the masters for the Hussar/Carbineer and Sand Guard, but I don't believe its been enough of a delay to prevent our planned release at the end of March.
Here is a painted Resin Capitaine, painted by Dakka's own Wehrkind:
When the painted Resin gets here this week, I'll take a picture of it next to the Metal version for comparison.
Automatically Appended Next Post: We have Three (3) Metal Capybara Capitaines left in stock, these are the last three that we will have, and they'll be sent to be recycled into other models next week if no one wants them. If your interested send an E-mail to Emily@On-The-Lamb.com with your address and the number you'd like before Wednesday. Clearance priced at $10, and payment through paypal.
it was just brought to our attention that shipping to Canada was bugged in the webstore! The issue is now fixed, and our northern neighbors should be able to place orders again.
The final two chapters of Matthew's "The Hunter and The Thief of the night" have been posted onto the website. Head over to the "Tales from Brushfire" subsection to read them.
Just a reminder, we will be closed from March 11th, until March 18th because of GAMA Trade Show. Any Brushfire orders placed today or tomorrow will ship out before we closed.
Wehrkind wrote:Tell me Kong Ming's head is separate.
I don't believe so.
GAMA Trade Show is over with, and boy are my feet tired.
At least two new stores carrying Brushfire and lots of excitement for it at the show!
If you've been following the news from the show you may have seen our New Game Announcement: Endless Fantasy ~Tactics~
EFT is a Hexed Based Fantasy Miniatures game with a JRPG vibe to it coming later this year from On The Lamb. We showed off the first sculpt in the line of 40mm miniatures for the game at GTS, and we hope to show off the second at Adepticon when we start showing folks demos of the game. More pics and concept artwork is coming soon along with a Kickstarter for the game.
Thin ankles on critters don't bother me... Real dogs, horses, and related animals tend to have very thin legs as compared to the torso of the creature.
Yea, but they are a tad delicate in resin for a load bearing part. Not really a big problem, but a little extra metal plating on the metacarpals there would bulk it up a little, and make sense from a protection standpoint.
Of course, these are small, so probably would be cast in metal anyway. Still, I have nightmares with Rackham ankles snapping off

Yeah, I don't forsee these guys needing the Resin treatment.

The Carbineer is a new unit for Aquitar, a completely new unit. Its not featured in the main rulebook and through the virtue of our new cards that won't be an issue, aside from fluff. If your looking for their fluff, you'll find a bit about the Shrews who live in the marches between Aquitar and Vandalands in the RPGHistoria Rodentia.
We aren't planning on putting out too many 'New' units until we get caught up with whats in the Brushfire rulebook, but there isn't much stuff left in there outside of Scyzantium, Chugoku, and character models.
Chemical Cutthroat wrote:Truly delicious! There a time-frame in mind or is it still verymuch a work in progress?
We're aiming for a Q4 release of the game, but minis will trickle out before then. We're planning on doing a kick starter soon to cover sculpts and more art
Basic release plan is doing waves of 6 figures, with these 6 being Wave 1. Wave 2 will contain a party of monsters.
We expect to have these tomorrow or Saturday, and will ship out preorders this weekend. These Capybara are the first fully resin unit for Brushfire, and you'll get 3 of them in a Squad Box for $29.99 along with a ton of weapon options and other bits to outfit them rather nicely.
We've just launched a Kickstater Campgain for Brushfire's Scyzantium faction. We've got a terrific sculptor lined up (Jason Wiebe) to bring the Veiled Assassins and Agamid Vizier to 'life' and we need your assistance to make it happen sooner rather then later. So we've set up a simple Kickstarter to cover getting these two models done, and when we hit the goal we'll keep doing stretch goals to add more and more models to the line. Like Chugoku's troops, Lu Pang, and Loxodon.
So if you want to see Scyzantium and Chugoku on the table before the year's out, hit up the kickstarter and spread the word!
Glad to see you've got the kickstarter going, I will have to check funds. How much is a first born worth, and will you take him/her in 9 months?
Seriously, everyone should check out this game, RiTides, Wehr, Gavin Thorne, and a few other dakkanauts play this game I'd play it too if I could ever catch Emily at a con and get a demo lol.

This game is great, and almost every one I've demod it for has enjoyed it.

I can also not stress enough how great the campaign rules in the rule book are. Very fun. I've been drooling to get enought players in my area into this game to run one.
The Free Cities of Mare-Civitas (Think Spain/Portugal)
Ribenguo Shogunate (Japan)
The Vandalands (Prussia region, barbarians, etc)
The Tribes of Zabar (Tribal Africa)
There are also 2 other factions that don't have starters out, but will benefit from this Kickstarter. They are Scyzantium (think Lizards in the Byzantine empire) and Chugoku (China).
Yup, if you have any questions about the various factions, you can talk to Cy (obviously) but several of the dakkanauts I listed in my first post in this thread could tell you about their various factions. I've got an Aquitar army (and no matter what Cy tells you, they're assembled, just not painted) and an Axony starter.
Expanding on what Alf said, our "Warband" each contain 25pts worth of Troops, a Hero (with cards for both a standard version, and a preset one for beginners), 3D10, and the quick start rules for Brushfire. Its everything a single player needs to start with, and are for the most part balanced against each other. A standard game of Brushfire is 100pts, so this gets you a quarter of your army and the remainder is easily filled out with Squad boxes (which range from around 25 to 50 pts), blisters, or additional Warbands.
Additionally, when the kickstarter is successful, when you pick a reward that contains a starter you can choose the Scyzantium Warband or any other the 6 that are currently out.
Congrats on the Kickstarter. It's gonna do real well I hope you already have your stretch goals planned out, cuz you're gonna need them for updates sooner than you think that's what I should have done .. oh well, next time
Love the lizard guys, especially the turtle cannon!
Once the news sites around the web pick it up you're gonna see a big surge for sure.. tabletop gaming news especially... in my stats I have the most backers that came from there, followed by Dakka in the #2 spot And The Miniatures Page is a great place to post it too, but you need to be an advertiser to get listed on their front page.
Does the 600 Dollar back come with the paints, or only the art, Hero, and models...?
I'm asking just as a question...
Sure, I'll add that in
We're at $660 in less then 24 hrs!
Necros, we have a number of things lined up for our Stretch goals.
$2000 - Jason Wiebe sculpts the Assassin & Vizier for Scyzantium
$4000 - Noah does all of the CA for Chugoku's troops, and we start getting them and Lu Pang sculpted. It'll likely be Daniel, as he would kill me if I had someone else sculpt Chickens.
$7000 - This is a big one. Aragorn Marks. Loxodon the King of Zabar.
At that point we'll go about filling in gaps in the line: Siege Tortoise, character models... and there have been talks of adding in a new faction.

The Rebellious Federated States?
The troops of the possibly insane commander of Xalepena?
The dying Empire of the Jaguaro?

Map of the world:
Spoiler:
Xalepena is a rival of the Federated States of Vespuccia, and is based on Mexico.
Khonshu is a principality of Scyzantium, based on Egypt. It will be covered in detail in the 3rd RPG book.
Hyperia is based on Greece, and is an uneasy new member of the Civitan Trade Alliance. They'll be covered in more detail in the 3rd RPG Book, but they are mentioned a few times in the Mare-Civitas section of the Brushfire rulebook and have a few brief mentions in the first RPG book. Keep in mind the 'Current Year' in the current edition of Brushfire is 1815AF, and the RPG are all 1825AF.

The Face has been hunted by the Inquisition of Axony, who travel down from their ivory tower. The Face hides from them, hidden deep within the jungles of Bharat.
Had to change that from Volk-Urssia because Yaks are from the Himalayas.

Either one works... The "inquisition" was just to flesh out why "The Face" is hiding in Bharat.

Bharat is a fantastic place to hide... for reasons that will become clearer as the fluff develops...
Good luck with the kickstarter, if things work out ill toss in a few $$ sometime before the end. Havent gotten into Brushfire yet, but Id like to eventually.

This would be a great way to do it. Fund enough for a starter, a troops or two, and a rulebook and you're good to go. Find a friend (or two or three) and make them sign up so you have someone to play with!

So, a little birdie has told me (or it might just be my obsession with checking my email on my phone) that some new wonderful, amazing, fantastical backing levels have been added. These levels specifically give you access to the very transparent and extremely limited; Limited Edition Squad Box of Veiled Assassins cast in clear resin.
I have it on good authority that not only will these boxes be extremely limited but they will also give you a major advantage over your opponent, elevate you in the eyes of the opposite sex, make you appear taller and grow hair on your chest whether you want it or not.

The Principality of Wallsylvania, led by the fearsome Prince Bat Vampula perhaps?
Or how could we forget the proud kangaroos of the Maoroo Tribes of Axony's South Sea Holdings? Or the rival Platyrigine tribes?
I think that might be a worst pun then anything we've done. Good Show!

MeanGreenStompa wrote:I am interested in the mention you made of a potential eldritch horror insect faction...?
Any light you can shed on that?
We hinted at them in the fluff included in the Brushfire rulebook for several units, and go into slightly more detail in the short story "The Hunter & The Thief of the Night" and and a lot more detail in the RPG coming out next month from Mongoose. Fluff-wise they are concerned myths and daemons, in reality they are the oldest race having witnessed the rise and fall of many civilizations and have been slowly building their numbers so they can once again retake the surface.
To give you an idea of what to expect unit-wise, here is the CA for 'Legion' an incredibly cheap per model horde unit. One of the army's hero options is a Queen that will be able to pump more legion out per turn. We intend it to play like an Undead faction would in other fantasy games.
Those look like great concepts, I think this faction could be great for those that aren't sold on the 'cuter' animals and want something a bit different.
Thats precisely why we were planning on releasing them as one of the first of the 'new' factions.. them or the Volk-Urssals (Russian Bears and Wolves).
Generally one of the first things folks have asked was 'Do you have Bugs?' or 'Do you have Bears?'
Assuming our very talented resin caster doesn't have any trouble with casting the Clear Resin Assassins for our Kickstarter, I could easily see us doing the same for insect wings.

In all honesty when I intro the game to people I seem to keep getting conversions that go something along this lines:
"So if all the factions are equvlients to real life is their any russians?"
"Oh yah. Their is the fluff, but not playable yet. They have talked about adding them one day."
"Oh? What kind of animals are they?"
"Bears and Timber Wolves."
"Wait what?"
"Yah, They are a faction of russian Bears and wo-"
"THEIR ARE RUSSIAN BEARS?!?!?!?!"
"Yup."
"WHY IS THIS NOT A PLAYABLE FACTION YET?!?!?!? THAT'S AWSOME!"
Should everything go according to plan (which it usually doesn't ), The remaining troops will be sculpted by mid-Fall leaving just character models to cover everything in the current rulebook. Arctos Nevsky is one of the highest priority characters, so he is likely to get done before year's end. (Other high priorities are a resculpt of Juan, The Wanderers, and The Experts)
2013 will be characters and new troops, with Exomorphs or/and Volk-Urrssia models coming around summer-ish (probably greens at GAMA & Adepticon/Release at Gencon).
Keep in mind that neither faction is likely going to be easy on the wallet.. Exomorphs are a horde beyond horde (Though I imagine with the thinness of insectiod bodies it will be lower material costs, and thus lower price-per-model), and Volk-Urrssia is full of Dreadnought/Lug sized troops.
How... how did he spell it incorrectly while speaking? And how did you know the difference?
Hehe, ok, I will stop being a prick, and post something useful from ETF:
WIP Sorcerer
The eyes look a lot better when it isn't 5 inches tall, I swear. He still needs something, other than a strong shot of dullcote, but I can't quite put my finger on it. I am just glad that I got a good evening of painting in though. Been a while, and it was great fun
I really like that Gerbil pilot. He looks all sorts of awesome. That's a 100% buy right there.
I'm guessing he's still WIP? His back doesn't look done and that gun looks a little thick for his hands.
I can't wait to see that machine he pilots too.
I really gotta sit down and get acquainted with all the fluff from your games, because a lot of this seems right up my alley, particularly the RPG side of things.

Helping to fund a Kickstarter is difficult when your outside the US, you might want to work with him on an alternate funding option. Alternatly Kickstarter recommends using an Amazon gift card with a value $1 higher then the amount you want to kickstart for.
I've been telling everyone in my gaming group about this to try and get more people interested in the game, not sure if its working or not though.

Aye, did so earlier in the year for a White Wolf based one, you just need a Amazon account and it bills it based on your standard payment choice for the account.

- Two Megabattles! 50 Resources per player, and as many players as we can squeeze around a 4×6 table.. Experience with Brushfire helps, but first timers do surprising well in our Megabattles. Prizes for the winner, and best painted. We'll have a few loaner armies on hand.. but not many.
- Endless Fantasy ~Tactics~! We announced it at Gama Trade Show, and Adepticon is going to be your first chance to try it out in its wonderful prototype state.
Keep an eye out for our Orange table clothes and shirts during the weekend!
The sorcerer is one master mold away from being ready to sell, so if you wanted to Kickstart production by sending me a few 20$'s we could make that happen. And by "Kickstart" I mean "bribe me".
Otherwise, you will wait till Cyp pulls the trigger, AND YOU WILL LIKE IT!
You will get to see the Sorc in person at Adepticon, assuming Jin doesn't get corn-holed by the TSA on the way out.
While speaking about EFT, we've been talking to Brother Vinni about getting a few sculpts done for it... We'll be holding a Kickstarter for that project and in June-July-ish.
Back to Brushfire... Scyzantium & Beyond Kickstater is 87%! Only about $200 left, so it looks like we may hit it this weekend. We've sent a downpayment to Jason to get the Assassin started, so hopefully we'll have some pics ready before the Kickstarter ends.
So next up: Chugoku!
Chugoku is an interesting army for Brushfire, being based on the 3 Kingdoms Era of China. Players have the option of choosing a side in this internal conflict, representing one of the 5 subfactions and getting a few bonuses for doing so.. or you can play a United Chugoku force and get more options, but none of the bonuses. This first hero for this faction, Kong Ming, was previewed a few weeks ago and our first strech goal is get the first two troops done.
Our Options for troops are:
Wei Pine – Asiatic Brush-tailed Porcupine (Atherurus macrourus)
Red Wu – Red Panda (Ailurus fulgens)
Shu Hare – Chinese Hare (Lepus sinensis)
Lem Han – Yellow Steppe Lemming (Eolagurus luteus) riding a Chicken steed
Flying Boxer – North Chinese Flying Squirrel (Aeretes melanopterus)
The Wei Pine, Red Wu, Shu Hare, and Lem Han all have similar equipment options and represent the basic warriors of the principal factions. The Flying Boxers are martial artist boxers.
Axony's Heavy Brigadier, the last of the currently released Axony models that needed to get its card updated. So once the Zabar ones are done as well, the whole line will be using the new card format.
No, probably won't make it there :( I'd like to, but I just didn't really plan for any big cons just yet. I want to get my figs done and released and all that stuff so I'm gonna start planning to hit all the big ones starting next year.

Ah, weird, could have sworn I saw you on the demo roster.
Fantastic show this year, it feels like the turn out was larger then last year. We did a ton of demos, and talked to lots of folks (including a countless number of Dakka folks). We're really looking forward to next year, and already have a few awesome things planned.
Early pics of the Chipmunk Weapon Team are up on our website, showing off the 'Panzardi Special' and one of the Mortar team members.
More art and other awesome things coming... like some Civitan Gold Murin D10s for the Kickstarter!
Great stuff as always, love the guy with the eye-patch and curved sword above as well as the new gattling gun, starting to get very temped to pick up a force at this rate,
maybe Vandelands (I love rats).

Just out of question what excactly is a valkyr?
A Valkyr is a clockwork battle suit designed by the Gerbils of Federwerk to defend there homeland from the much larger invaders of the Ursal-Khanate (Bears and Wolves).
This Clouded Leopard is Chugoku's Red Fang Exemplar, Gan Zi. One last piece and all of Chugoku's Exemplars will have art.
We've worked out the details, and are happy to announce that Civitan Gold Murin D10s are now a reward for the Kickstarter. Any backer who gets a Warband Starter set is now also getting 3 of these dice, and anyone who would like to get more dice can add $5 to their pledge per 3.
We're really looking forward to seeing the Valkyr green as well! Vandalands is proving to be our most popular faction, good thing we have many plans for them.
The Kickstarter is up to $2,281 (114%)!! We've got our fingers crossed to get to that first stretch goal and get Chugoku's troops out soon.
That leopard is so wonderfully smug, it would be great to get that expression come across in the final miniature. The valkyr is really cool looking can't wait for the final miniature.
BTW good luck with your kickstarter, if you don't end up reaching your stretch goals this time around would you end starting a new one in a couple of months with a new set of goals?
I only ask since I would love to donate towards it, been keeping an eye on your brushfire project for a while would love to see it go further.
Our next planned Kickstarter is going to be for Endless Fantasy, but we may look into doing one for Brushfire next year to cover a more fancy rulebook.
Chugoku is going to get done, the stretch goal on this Kickstarter is just to get it done sooner.

Like this one?
Noah is finishing up the logo for it soon, we'll be spending the next month cleaning up rules and getting a demo video together for the Kickstarter. Brother Vinni will be doing the rest of the sculpts for the first wave.
Today is Brushfire's anniversary! 2 years ago today we released the Badger-At-Claw & Mouse Conscript models; and have gone on to release models for 6 of the eight factions in the Brushfire rulebook, the last two getting models in the coming weeks. Year 3 is going to be a blast: Sand Guard, Veiled Assassins, Agamid Vizier, Kong Ming, Amamimoto The Ronin, Devon Brigadiers, Marmort Medic, Weasel Trapper, Chipmunk Weapon Teams, and the Valkyr; and that's just whats planned for the next couple of months.
Chemical Cutthroat wrote:Certainly more Clockwerk Gerbils!
They have me all sorts of excited.
Oh, and to figure out whatever it is that your icon is.
VikingBlue, part of Nordic Taskforce Vikinger... which was going to be a board game, but there became issues with the company we were working with that caused the project to get canned.
So will a pledge of $30 ore more get 3 dice? about how many dice do you think is a good amount to play? I don't own any d10's at all
Also did you ever post your kickstarter on board game geek? I know it's board games but there's a big Kickstarter forum there, for all kinds of games. I had a bunch of backers from there.
The Miniatures Page is also a good place to post news, but you have to be an advertiser to get on the front page .. but you can do a banner ad for like $5 a month and that's all it takes.
