Hi,
Brother Dimetrius over at Warseer got this from a GW (Belgium) facebook feed:
"On the afternoon of Friday 19th October we will be releasing a variety of direct only bundles for Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000 and The Lord of The Rings. These bundles offer our customers fantastic value and are a great opportunity for them to add to their miniatures collections."
Sounds a bit weird ... for October. But we will see tomorrow.

In any case, could be a nice bit of promotion that they need.

Well, when I worked at the local GW store before it closed, we always got our Mega Paint Sets in stock right around Hallowe'en.
Rest of the BIG! Xmas bundles like the boxes armies followed within a few weeks of that happening.
Maybe this year those things like the 'uber paint set & army bundles will be Direct Only, saving shelf space and such for the rest of the Xmas stuff, (army cases/monster figure case, new terrain, etc...) and the forthcoming Hobbit stuffs?

That was back in 07, they'll probably charge the same price for all the items as they would be separate like the Chaos Bundle.

I'm assuming they'll be cheaper, unlike the Chaos bundle. Probably not Apocalypse "we're clearing out all our stock" cheap, but cheaper.

"fantastic value" usually means you save $30 or so buying the bundle then the individual components, even though you'd probably not want every model in the bundle anyway....

Having seen the raised prices on the battleforces, it will probably end up being around £10-£20 pounds at most.

£10-£20 is $16 to $32 dollars.

Pfft, if they are direct only from GW it will be cheaper to just buy the models separately from any discount seller. If GW allows any retailer to sell them it could be something worth looking at, if they dont it's a waste of time.

That's what it's been like lately, hasn't it? An example would be those limited edition "super" figures that you need to have two kits to make, which happen to require two kits and are priced at exactly two kits pricing, but are bundled only for a limited time or else you have to buy two SEPARATE kits at the same price.

Slaaneshi Chariot.
There was a “special” chariot that was available for a limited time only. To make it you needed two complete chariot kits, and the box came with two chariot kits.
And the cost?
The same as buying two chariot kits.

I can only agree with this, even with a discount on there's no way it'll be cheaper than getting the models individually when a large amount of webstores are routinely on 20-25% off of RRP.
If some of the boxes come with a unique sculpt or something though then I may be unable to resist.

Actually it was worse, because it only came with 1 base of each flavor (one square, one round). So if you decided you actually wanted to make two regular chariots, you had to get another base.

With GW of late it could be anything from literally just a few dollars to huge savings. Last year's December bundles, HE, Skaven, DE, SM, had a built in discount in the US of about 35%! On the other hand, some of the standing Battalion/Battleforce deals are considerably less since recent price rises. Some of the Apocalypse deals back in 2007-2008 had discounts as deep as 35%-40% and occasionally more. Interesting to see what model ranges are offered and at what price break.

There's big news from the Black Library today - Angel Exterminatus, the latest novel in the Horus Heresy series is now available to advance order, both from the Games Workshop website and as part of an exclusive bundle deal from the Black Library. This stunning hardback novel is the first of a new breed of Horus Heresy books - a chunky tome complete with a gorgeous full-colour dust-jacket, a wrap-around cover featuring the cover art, an afterword from the author, Graham McNeill, and four exclusive pieces of artwork by Karl Richardson to accompany Perturabo's epic quest for the eponymous Angel Exterminatus.
Keen to find out more about Graham's inspiration for the book, both Michael from the Black Library team and Adam from White Dwarf took the opportunity to ask him about his latest novel:
"Angel Exterminatus is a tale of two Primarchs who are just about the last two you'd expect to see working together," begins Graham, "a tale of one's vanity and another's determination to carry out his brother's orders. It's a tale of trust broken, towering egos and a journey into the unknown in search of ultimate power. It's a book that was to be a spiritual sequel to Fulgrim, but ended up being all about Perturabo. I quickly realised that it wasn't Fulgrim's story, that he was the figure who kicked it all into motion, but the character who needed to take the journey was Perturabo. It's action packed, full of twists and turns and contains more than a few revelations the fans won't be expecting..."
Graham had plenty more to say about Angel Exterminatus to both our intrepid reporters. You can read more about Graham's thoughts on Angel Exterminatus on the Black Library blog page now and there is an extensive double-page interview with Graham and a review of the book in November's issue of White Dwarf, which will be out on October 27th.
We were lucky enough to get our hands on a copy of Angel Exterminatus (though only briefly before the librarians took it back) and we were delighted by all the extra features in it. Matt's Imperial Fist was entirely overwhelmed by the size and scale of the book, which is entirely appropriate considering what happens to his Battle Brothers at the start of the novel...
But that's not all from the Black Library vaults. With only three weeks to go until the Black Library Weekender they've announced another exclusive product that will be available on the day - an Alpha Legion t-shirt.

$260 isn't terrible though some quick adding comes to 1137 points with a little guess work on my part. My guesses after the "-" mark. Necrons 1X Walker - Triarch Stalker 1X Bark - Doomsday Barge 1X Glider - Doom Scythe 6X Jetbikes - Tomb Blades 1X Spider - Canoptech Spyder 2X Worriors (24) 1X Immortals 6X Scarabs - 2x 3 scarab bases. And it's worth noting the bundle doesn't come with a HQ if you're like me and enjoy being able to pick up a set and play. Meanwhile the SM force a legal list out of the box clocking in at a nicely expandable 1090 points without any upgrades

For Necrons it's approximately $353 retail assuming Bark is a barge and not an Ark. $365 if it's an ark instead of a barge. That's a savings of over $100. Almost 30%. That's not to bad for GW. Even better if they don't direct only them but either way, it's not to shabby. Better than their normal "bundles".

hmm. contents of the necron bundle are GBP 169,40 incl. shipping from wayland - that's €210. (this is all assuming an ark, not a barge)
€10 savings, but you don't get to choose which kits you want. remember, it's direct only, so you don't get the discounts.
not sure how it'll break down for ROW buyers, but I can't see there being much of a savings over discounters.

Kind of disappointed that it's only for a couple of armies, unless there are more that haven't been announced yet.
The thing about bundle deals like this is that it doesn't take much effort on GW's part to create them (take existing boxes of stuff, place in larger box to hold all of them, profit). So why only a few armies?

To be fair, it's the same number of sets they did last year.

I'll see you and raise you.
Why not do this for all the armies, all the time?!
While it would devalue the starter sets a bit, it would lower the barrier to entry just a little bit, and would make an awesome Xmas or birthday present for younger players.
Oh, right, it's because GW minis are so awesome they don't DO sales. *facepalm*

I'm confused about the term bundles. These seem to be like the boxed armies they had last year around Christmas, albiet with different kit. Is that what this is or are these separate things?

Not sure what a "Shrine" is for the vampires.
Everything else adds up to $291.5 if you bought it individually as opposed to the budle price of $318. So I'm guessing one of the following is true.
The "Knights" are blood knights as opposed to black knights (which is what I originally figured) then the cost of everything seperately would be $357.50, so you would save $40.
If the shrine ends up being the coven throne/mortis engine then the cost of everything seperate would be 419.5, which would be just over $100 in saveings.
Seeing that $100 in savings is what Hulk got with his maths I'm guessing it's the right one.

Technicus is Engineer, Extinctors are Immortals.
What's a "Necron Bark"? I assume a barge? Automatically Appended Next Post: Also,

Depending on price here in NZ, might pick up the necron one, with what we assume is the CCB/annihalation barge kit, would make a nice legal army straight out the box.
Although would never really use the stalker, and one spyder? Would also prefer more immortals, jetbikes are cool. Again would depend on the price here.
Although, in NZ you can still buy the dark eldar and marine ones from last time, so dark eldar or necrons for my second army...

Just to play devil's advocate...
It would not be the first time that GW has fed misinformation to what they consider suspects and see what happens.

In fact the marine one is almost identical to last years megaforce, just a razorback instead of a speeder storm.

Wow, once again GW is cutting out the FLGS. You know if they cut out our game stores where are we to play 40k? It seems this is much like cutting your own throat.

I'll probably get the Necron set if it's available through FLGS. It should come to about 45% off in total with my regular discount.

What's the FLGS have to do with anything? If the grief is over ordering GW Direct the shipping is going to be free. FLGSs have always had the ability to put together large packages and offer a greater discount but usually don't so no blaming GW there either. Retailers get a much better discount from distributors/ GW. I guess I'm not seeing the root of your complaint. Please explain.

I think he's trying to say that GW is undercutting local hobby shops. GW has had a somewhat antagonistic relationship with FLGSes for some time now, so this kind of thing isn't surprising. I have to think a lot of the fire is aimed at online retailers (only stuff I deal with, since my LGSes either aren't particularly friendly or else has no selection in shop) and personally it stinks a bit with that.

I'd agree with the undercutting thing if they had permanent bulk discounts. I've laways wondered why they don't do this, have a big bundle deal on all their armies. No need for a special box just send the individual boxes. However, they don't its a simple trawl for the Christmas market. I actually think they've missed a trick and should do all the armies, it's annoying to say the least when you are again seeing these great deals but not on your own armies.
For 99% of the year on 99% of stuff the FLGS can undercut GW prices and still make a profit so GW have a LOT of price cutting and deals to set up in order to make that move!

Last holiday season my FLGS was 50% off all their GW stuff. I don't see getting mad at the manufacturer for doing the same thing. Even if it is select bundled items.

So glider = ghost ark, not night scythe
Although with the CCB is a playable army out the box.
Will pick it up if my flgs can get it in, they still have a few dark eldar ones from last time so should be able to.
Only thing I would do is sell the stalker for some more spyders/wraiths/flyers, its the only thing I would probably never use for necrons.

I got last years SM Megaforce (which is nearly identical) from my FLGS for $188 that is including local tax.
So unless they let the FLGS order them, I am not even considering it as I still have nearly half of last years kit still in the box.

And the sick thing about it is that I know of one that has a few from the year before, still on the shelf. ( of course they keep jacking up the price, but the thing is still on the shelf.)
Those army sets don't look too bad though, seeing the way that GW is going, you'll only need to sell one of your kidneys to get that outside of this offer.
