1 thing though, the pictures seem dark. It may be my computer at work but if not maybe some better lit pictures next time. It is hard to see some of these.
Automatically Appended Next Post: They look great.

They were really dark, but I brightened the colors with our photo editor.
We need to get a photo tent but we just dropped a big sum of money on the deposit for the BAO venue. We'll have to hold off on new equipment for a little while.
Yeah, the Necrons came out really well. The Dark Eldar I especially liked as they came out so dang close to the book, which is exactly what the client asked for, we were really happy with them.

Our client really enjoyed the Desert IG we did for him previously and asked us to add to it, which we were only too happy to do! These vehicles have a simple, but very striking color scheme that uses an airbrush to fade from a flat brown, to a rich, yellow brown, accented with a brownish metal and dark brown to give it a very nice, dessert feel. This is a level 2 paint job.
As always check out our paint section to see about having Frontline Gaming help you finish your next project!
We actually purposely didn't use putty or tape because we were shooting for that soft edge camo. It's a matter of preferrence as to what looks better, I have done both. My own IG have a hard edge on the Camo, and it is quite a different look.
You coming to the BAO, Levi? We have a table building contest this year! Your Ork table could win you a few hundred bucks in prizes!
Of course I'm coming and I was thinking of building a new table just for it. Was thinking of giving it to a friend or just auctioning it off after the tourny.
And your table last year was one of the main inspirations for this contest this year! It looked so cool we wanted to try and get some more folks excited to build awesome tables, too. We want to build really cool, unique tables like that but we just don't have time as we have to make so much terrain.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, and if you need help selling the table at the event, we'll definitely put the word out.
Thanks! We have two international painters on the team (two of our best, actually) and Oscar from Sweden painted these, He is a legit artist, too, with paintings in galleries and such, he does a very good job.
I second that about the highlighting on the wolves. It's unfortunate that the bolters weren't drilled, even if they aren't meant to be top standard paint jobs.
That Thunderhawk looks sweet, I like the pink Aquila on the front.
Hate the model, which isn't your fault, but I love the paintjob. My only critique is the sword. The faces seem a bit off with the colors used, not bad, but a bit off imo.
The crazy looking Slaneesh Terminator is a custom model that our client made using a 3D modeling program and a 3D printer! Very cool.
Imotehk was a special piece, and the client asked us to do some really specific airbursh work on the cape, which was a new experience for the artist. The model also features a custom base and light weathering.
This is a beautiful level 3 Tau Commander Farsight, with some awesome greenstuff work off of the blade along with some OSL to really accentuate the effect. Shadowsun features a magnetized head, so she can be played with or without her helmet, and beautiful paint and OSL effects. Both models feature level 3 basing.
As soon as they are done! The artist said he'd be wrapping up this week, he is very fast and he is actually the gentlemen who painted the above Infinity model!
Nice work all around. I especially like the Eldar Army, a simple Blue and White colour scheme that has been painted well, they look great. The Khorne Army also is very good indeed!
These very cool models the the game Super Dungeon Explore are a great example of a level 2 paint job with level 2 basing. The models came out really nicely and we’re quite pleased with the result. We were just bummed we didn’t have the game here to play it before giving it back to the client!
These various character models were painted by one of our artists and are a good example of what our studio can produce in terms of copying book paint schemes, using OSL and other advanced techniques and creating unique schemes!
Frontline did my eldar army over the summer as well. They came out great! It's a full 2000 point Eldar army painted in Saim Hann colors, here's a peak and a link to the whole gallery.
That has all of our pricing, which you will see is VERY competitive! But feel free to send an email to: painting@frontlinegaming.org and we'll shoot you a quote!
Glad you like the work. I painted the World Eaters, and one of our best guys painted the desert IG. They came out really well.
@Whitedragon
Thanks for the plug! I need to go back and edit those photos to put our watermark on them and to brighten them up a bit, they're too dark, you can't see the detail work very well enough.
These level 2 paint job Chaos units with level 3 basing came out very well and also showcase some of the Greenstuff work our artists can do to really customize your models.
These very cool looking level 2 paint job Chaos units are particularly cool because our client sent the Maulerfiend / Forgefiend fully magnetized so that it could run with any weapon configuration. And, I have to say, the Forgefiend with the Maulerfiend's arms looks waaaaaay better than with just the gun arms. I think this is an idea we will most definitely be stealing for our own use! The paint job itself is a combination of airbrush work, weathering powders and some really clean line work for a cool, fade from brighter metallic to darker.
This is a gorgeous model that came out really well! It is a level 3 paint job. Notice the the combination of blending and fine line work to create a very striking carapace.
Thanks! Yeah I was super pleased with this model. I wish I could say I painted it myself, but I didn't. It was one of our artists and he really did an excellent job with it.
Just want to say what a great job your studio did on my Vultures and Avenger flyers. They look absolutely amazing and would highly recommend your service to anyone that’s looking for fine quality work.
Thanks! Really happy to hear you liked them! I will have pics up of them tomorrow. They came out super cool, I really liked them, too. I already loved the Vulture kit but after seeing that Avenger in real life, it made me want one pretty badly!
This is a level 3 paint job character model with level 3 basing for the Hordes Circle of Orboros faction. The model was painted to the client’s specified color scheme and came out great!
These level 2 paint job Dark Angels Assault Marines came out great! The client asked for the distinctive bone colored helmets and no basing. The backpacks are all magnetized, too!
These models are absolutely amazing. I love them. I would marry them if it were legal! The Vulture with twin Punisher Cannons particularly, is fantastic. I can honestly say that that is one of my all time favorite models. These are level 2 paint jobs with extensive weathering to really set them off.
Thanks guys! We're always taking new commissions if anyone is interested
These Adeptus Mechanicus models are painted to a level 2 standard with no basing done per the client’s request. The weapons on many of the models were left off also per the client’s request as he wanted to paint them himself. This army will look really cool when it’s done!
This Tau Riptide is a gorgeous model and a great example of a level 3 paint job with level 3 basing! It also features a host of advanced painting and modeling techniques including the very cool OSL on the lit areas of the model.
That is simply amazing. Great work! I recently purchased a level 3 job for Farsight and some bodyguards from your team there and I'm sure they'll turn out just as well as that riptide.
The riptide looks good and seems to stand above the rest in terms of quality. Out of curiosity, I checked your pricing sheet, you charged only around 100 labour for that model?
The Riptide is excellent, and it is a level 3 paint job with level 3 basing, and freehand work.
We have over a dozen artists, and their levels of inspiration and the techniques they use vary from project to project. Not every project is going to look the same. Plus, clients make very specific requests in terms of what they want at times, and sometimes those color choices etc. may not be what we would have chosen. We're often asked to match what a client already has, which limits our creative freedom.
These are some great looking IG with Inquisition! Note the weathering and power weapon effects on these great looking models. Sorry for the poor picture quality, I couldn't get the lighting right.
This gorgeous Farsight unit is both powerful on the table top and seriously good looking. The unit features some great NMM work, airbrush blending, line work, magnetized weapons, and freehand unit markings on the custom back banners. The end result is a real eye grabbing unit. This is a level 3 paint job with level 3 basing.
These level 1 pre-heresy World Eaters Rhinos are a great example of our very affordable entry level paint service. You get a model that looks excellent on the table top but doesn’t break the bank!
These Grey Knights are painted to a level 2 standard with level 1 basing. They feature some excellent airbrush work as well as a nice effect on the power weapons.
The vehicles are fantastic with the flame effects on them, but I personally don't like the infantry (I'm not the client, so no worries ). I think that the magma bases mixed with the fiery effect on the sword and on the models in general is just too much.
Yeah, the vehicles came out brilliantly. We really liked the hot rod style flames, that was a pretty cool new technique we tried out and it came out fantastically.
The infantry gets mixed reactions. I like them a lot, personally. They do have a really strong feel to them though, no doubt.
These level 2 paint job Dark Angels Tactical Squads came out great! They were left unbased per the client’s request. These all came out of the Dark Vengeance set and combined with our affordable painting rates, our customer got this great looking army on the table for cheap!
This level 3 army came out beautifully! With a combination of great conversions and overall concept, stand out models, great paint work and excellent basing, this army is just fantastic. A real head turner and one we are very proud of!
When the client asked us he wanted level 3 skorne painted in a pink and gold color scheme I didn’t know quite what to think. And then I saw what the artist did with them and I was blown away! The pink and gold with brown skin tones is just a killer color combo that results in a super unique army that just pops right off of the table. - See more at: http://www.frontlinegaming.org/portfolio-items/skorne-models/#sthash.yUzrVU9z.dpuf
These level 2 paint job Warp Spiders and Autarch with level 2 basing are painted in an Ulthwe scheme with red and green accent colors to mark them out as Warp Spiders! The Warp Spiders also feature free hand unit symbols on their backs and the Autarch is converted up to client specifications. - See more at: http://www.frontlinegaming.org/portfolio-items/warp-spiders-and-autarch/#sthash.X3YyiMMT.dpuf
I actually do not know the color blue on the suits, sorry, I didn't paint those, myself.
New commission! This baby came out just gorgeous! I am a big fan of the candy coat, beautifully blended green on the hull! Really a gorgeous paint job. This is a level 3 paint job Eldar Crimson Hunter with level 3 basing. Also note, the vehicle is magnetized for all options!
This beautiful Forge World Angron is painted to a level 3 standard with level 3 basing. This is a brilliant model and it came out fantastically. Note the blending, shading, gore effects and OSL from the collar onto Angron’s face. - See more at: http://www.frontlinegaming.org/portfolio-items/angron/#sthash.FeUBjO9u.dpuf
This was a really cool commission we completed for a 40K player back east. He requested that we make him 40K Daemon units using Fantasy models. He wanted a Lich King theme from Warcraft 3, which we were happy to oblige! These are level 3 paint jobs with level 3 basing. The wings are not attached to the Zombie Dragons as it is easier to ship them that way. - See more at: http://www.frontlinegaming.org/portfolio-items/warhammer-40k-daemons/#sthash.uMynDjPm.dpuf
This level 3 paint job Hive Tyrant came out great. It is fully magnetized with all options, including some killer Devourers we took using parts from the Tyrannofex kit. You can run thi smodel as a Hive Tyrant on foot or winged. The pictures really undersell the model, the color is too dark and you can’t see the beautiful blending on the carapace. - See more at: http://www.frontlinegaming.org/portfolio-items/hive-tyrant/#!prettyPhoto
These level 1 paint job Daemons with level 1 snow basing are a great example of our table top quality work! These are very cost effective and look great for a quick and affordable way to get an army on the table top. Note: the client asked us to paint the entire bases white. - See more at: http://www.frontlinegaming.org/portfolio-items/daemons-of-chaos/#!prettyPhoto
This was an interesting commission. The client asked us to paint up 3 separate Tyranid Warriors, each to level 3 with level 3 basing, each in a different scheme so that he could see what each scheme would look like. He would then choose from among them for his army. Here is the result, each a level 3 paint job with level 3 basing. Note the very cool effect on the brown Warrior’s carapace! - See more at: http://www.frontlinegaming.org/portfolio-items/tyranid-warriors/#sthash.R9AXHVjf.dpuf
It is probably due to my photography/editing skills (or lack thereof). I am still essentially a novice in both categories. The models look fantastic in real life.
No worries. I was pretty vague. On the bright side it's kept your thread near the top
Has there been an increase in Fantasy commissions since the Dark Elves release? Seems a lot of people are coming back to the game around here on the strength of the new line.
Thanks, Moltar! Haha, and yeah, the boots are there to tie him into the Biel Tan theme, but I thought they looked like GoGo boots! The model rocks though, the blending is fantastic but the white boots jump out a lot. The thing is, the other option was green which looked awful when we tried it out.
This Eldar commission came out beautifully. The client picked some excellent colors and I was very impressed with the end result. The light browns and blues compliment one another perfectly and the purples add a strong contrast. Note also the freehand line work and icons on the models! This is a level 3 paint job with level 3 basing. - See more at: http://www.frontlinegaming.org/portfolio-items/eldar/#sthash.p74utVEh.dpuf
This gorgeous level 3 Kabuki Steam Knight limited edition model was also based to a level 3 standard. The end result is a subtle, beautiful model with great use of colors and blending to really set off a gorgeous model!
This beautiful level 3 paint job and based Iyanden Eldar army really came out great. Awesome basing, layered yellows, grays and blues and green highlights really set this army apart from the norm.
I read an earlier post about some tanks, someone commented about the cammo looking "sprayed" on, let me assure you it looked fine! When the Army paints vehicles it's sprayed on, we didn't brush on the cammo, we painted our own vehicles, we didn't send them off to a high speed cammo painting place... lol Painted out own and it looked sprayed on...
You have the layer paitning down pat!
You don't have to tell me twice, I just got pictures of the Eldar being painted up to level 1 for me! I couldn't be happier, I will have to send you some pictures after I base them and put on the insignia.
Holy Mackerel, those Eldar are absolutely top-notch! 1000 gemstones? Yes, it's believable, but - if true - when you think about it, that is actually quite amazing. If not a joke, of course Really wonderful thread, I'll be sure to follow along!
Reecius wrote: That technique actually uses glazes! But a lot of the rest of it was airbrushing.
And, your Eldar are done, brotha! They look awesome. We just need to base them, they should be in the mail Monday or Tuesday!
I got update pics on Saturday, I am really happy. I am thinking that may be the army I take to the LVO!
You should have some of your artists do some video tutorials on these techniques. While I have almost no time to paint anymore, hence the commissioned Eldar, I think they do some great work. That pearl effect using glazes is a prime example of what they have to offer to the other painters in the community. Just some food for thought for after you're done having no life or time due to the LVO.
Reecius wrote: That technique actually uses glazes! But a lot of the rest of it was airbrushing.
I love this effect! If I may ask, how did you get the glaze to dry in the varying thicknesses without creating rings? I've been having bad luck with my attempts at glazes due to how they dry...
It is stippled metallics with a glaze of choice over it, comes out great! To avoid rings? I honestly don't know, we haven't had that issue, but try using a medium.
Nice looking, WB's. A little too bright for my personal tastes, but still well done. Any reason for the completely bland bases or for not painting the plasma coils on the plasma guns?
Moltar wrote: Nice looking, WB's. A little too bright for my personal tastes, but still well done. Any reason for the completely bland bases or for not painting the plasma coils on the plasma guns?
Usually this is because of what the customer asked/paid for. For example FLG recently painted a small Iyanden army for me with bare bases because I wanted to base them myself. It's funny how often this topic comes up in the various commission painting threads.
As OverwatchCNC pointed out, we do as the customer asks =) Sometimes they want things that other people may not agree with, but we do what we are paid to do.
@Thread
This Tau commission is a great example of a level 1 paint job with level 2 basing. The basing really helps so spice up the models a lot, and the simple level 1 paint job is great for a table top standard to get you playing the game with a fully painted force on a budget! - See more at: http://www.frontlinegaming.org/portfolio-items/tau-suits/#!prettyPhoto
These are gorgeous level 3 paint job and level 3 basing Ravenwing and Deathwing! They feature blending, layering and extensive detail work. Please excuse the poor pictures, the lighting was off and I lost some detail on the shots, unfortunately. - See more at: http://www.frontlinegaming.org/portfolio-items/ravenwing-and-deathwing/#!prettyPhoto
These beautiful level 3 paint job and level 3 basing Eldar models came out extremely well. They feature all kinds of advanced painting techniques such as the stippling on the blue of the models as well as blending as well as coloring the crystals on the Fire Prism!
These level 2 and 3 paint job Tau are put painted in a Farsight color scheme. They feature level 1 basing in an urban style theme, freehand camo on the tanks, multiple levels of highlights, and layering work to create a great looking army! - See more at: http://www.frontlinegaming.org/portfolio-items/farsight-tau/#sthash.M7z2jUtK.dpuf
Yeah, the pictures aren't the best! I am still learning the fine art of photography. But, they both came out great, honestly.
This level 3 paint job and level 3 basing Revenant Titan is not only deadly on the tabletop but a great Ulthwe themed model. It features OSL, blending, a fantastic scenic base, a dynamic pose and a face-plate that opens to reveal a fully painted cockpit and pilot. - See more at: http://www.frontlinegaming.org/portfolio-items/revenant-titan/#sthash.4EvkRbls.dpuf
This commission came out really well with a combination of striking colors, weathering and a ton of magnets to make this a versatile army that can be used in a lot of different configurations to ensure it never gets old! This is a level 2 paint job army with freehand and weathering. - See more at: http://www.frontlinegaming.org/portfolio-items/imperial-guard-armor/#sthash.qKAay25w.dpuf
This awesome commission came out just fantastically with extensive freehand work that really sets it off as a gorgeous army! It is also fully magnetized to provide a ton of options for gaming as well. Check out Frontline Gaming for your next paint commission!
These level 3 paint job Leviathan Crusaders have been converted into Adeptus Custodes Imperial Knights! They came out great with freehand work, custom sculpted parts, and interchangeable weapons! Check us out for your next paint project.
This awesome level 3 paint job Imperial Knight with level 3 basing is painted up in a Legion of the Damned paint scheme! These beautiful level 2 paint job Blood Angels tanks with weathering came out great. The red is vibrant and the hazard striping on the Vindicator is especially vibrant. The weathering helps to break up the red coloring while not being too much. It is subtle and realistic looking. - See more at: http://www.frontlinegaming.org/portfolio-items/blood-angels-tanks/#sthash.Cx0BM6uG.dpuf
This may be OT, but i'm going to try anyway, HOW on earth did you get that Chaos Star imprint on the gaming board? I'll be making my own board this summer and I'd like a chaos star on my board too The armies look amazing btw, I love your basework as well, especially on the space wolves

the black imperial knight is done very sloppy.. silver paint on the shoulder guards and the sword all over the black... shouldnt happen while doin commisions
They look unfinished, and are banking more on the fancy airbrush job than attention to details. Really, they look half-assed.
None of the filigree was done, the autobots logo on the shield looks derpy, and as pointed out, the yellow one's melta cannon/shield is upside down (this might be intended, but still). Additionally, where's the individuality, other than in color?
And I have no idea what's going on with the boring, lifeless bases. Graham crackers?
I don't know what the buyer wanted or how much was paid, but if I had commissioned someone to do Transformers Knights, I would not be pleased with this result.
But hey, this is just my two cents, and I am critical of commission work. The airbrush work is very nice.
Edit: Apologies if ya'll think I'm being rude, but I'm just giving my opinion and the opinions that some at my FLGS have discussed when we saw these on the FG site. We really appreciate what Reecius and the team at FG do for the gaming community and know they're a nice group of dudes. Just felt like this paintjob missed the mark from the standard of work we're used to seeing.
Do you think you guys could take some better pictures of your paint jobs?
You guys do some great work, but it's hard to tell when the photos don't line up with the alleged quality of the job.
Specifically, the "masterclass" photos above. I think you're doing a disservice your top level painters.
Photography is a skill unto itself and one that I freely admit we are not experts at. We lack the know-how at present to take better pics, but, we are aware that they don't present the best possible image of the beautiful minis. We are working on it, though.
Print them on a A3 or even A2 format on mat photo paper and just curve them slightly. Don't create a hard fold in them. Aim at least 2 good light sources at them and you'll get some way better pictures already.
Don't shell out for a big expensive DSLR btw. Their limited depth of field due to their large sensors makes it harder to take shots of miniatures... A higher end compact camera will get you good results as well.

Awesome, thanks for the tips! Much appreciated =)
+1 to what Reece said....
Elmir, that's great advice for all of us amateur photographers trying to make mini's look good!
You can get very far with just 2 lamps and tinfoil to create your own reflectors... Having a dedicated spot for it like an old aquarium does help loads. I'm sure you can grab a really cheap foggy one on craigslist or something.
Thanks, glad you like them. And I like black edged bases often, too, but we do what the client asks. The static grass is GW brand and it does have some reds in it which look really good on the table top. Up close, you notice them more.
Relentless136 wrote: I'm sorry but that nid scheme looks pretty revolting. Yellow is a hard colour to pull off I know, but this just isn't doing it for me
Those pictures of the Malanthropes don't do them justice, I'm assuming they're iNcontroL's Tryanids and if that's the case they look amazing in all the bat reps I've seen especially the Dima.

You guys are painting some great stuff, so I have to ask why you arent investing in a better camera/pic setup? The Wraithknight pics a few posts back are eye bleeding.
@Lechine. Yeah it's tough for us since we don't have a traditional studio per say. We hand pick our artists from around the country so we get final pictures directly from the artists most of the time. Thanks for the compliments on the painting, though!
Reecius, do you guys emply a variety of painters? I ask only as the quality of level 3 seems to vary quite a bit. All look great and I'd be proud to own any of them, but some of the 3's blow my mind!
Love this thread and of course your vids. Our local shop started carrying your playmats in Ottawa Canada, so i can finally avoid the shipping and get me one...or three, lol.
