Hello, welcome to my painting blog, Ive got a sizeable army for my deathskulls orks. Ive been collecting them for around two or three years. Theres no better way of collecting these little green buggers than going buying a ton of boxes of models and help the death skulls loot the hell out of them. In time i will add some pictures of the army as it currently stands and put in some battle reports. currently im gong to add a small amount of boyz to the force, that will be fifty in total-half a green tide. To make this a challange for myself i will paint the whole squad up in a month (dec 12) so hear goes.
its now been some time since ive started this thread> so as every hobby evolves ive now got myself some nurgle to start a fantasy army. Thanks for all the encouragement during the last six months. Also anyone wanting any commisioned stuff done please get intouch

Those are some cool Orky things you have there. I really like the three looted Baneblades. You have used lots of imagination when you've put them together and I think it has paid off. The addition of all those parts works really well and makes them very Orky. I'm not sure which of the Baneblades is my favourite. I think number two because of the Killa kan turret, that is very cool.
The Dreadnoughts that you have are awesome as well. I've always liked the Ork Dreadnought model.

Post by: Fra Charmelandro
I agree, those Baneblades are something else. I have a Shadowsword or whatever it's called partially assembled and I may respectfully pinch some of your ideas.
I think the Stompa looks a bit plain in comparison; I would liven it up a bit with maybe a large painted horned skull glyph. I really ought to finish my stompa as it has the same over the top feel as your Baneblades.

That's quite a good start. I'm really digging the muted blues, it's nice to see Orky armies that aren't over the top once in a while.
By the way: You iz makin a bad mishtake wif dat spellingz. 'Deff Skullz' not 'Death Skulls' like how da 'umies say eet.

that is all the armour i have painted up at the moment. Theres plenty more in the pipeline with some builds nearly finished. Once i get all the infantry done im going to go back over the armour with some weatering powders and varnish them. overall its a realy fun army to build and painting is a blast-once i get a new tank i will add some stage by stages for anyone intrested in it. I should point out that all the painting has been done by me, however a good friend of mine has done most of the large conversions, credit where its due. If anyone has any similar projects to paint up feel free to get in touch, Usaly i dont charge for ork stuff like this, tho i will take any orky leftovers from you as a payment. So next up is all the footsloggers that make up the army....

ive been painting like a man possesed, trying to complite a fifty strong squad in a month is pretty hardcore, so far ive done all the bases and some of the armour, currently on the leathers, that only leaves me wih skin, washes, highlights, drybrushing and metalics to go.......
also ive been checking out the stormraven/thunderhawk conversion thats been going around. Once the mistress that is payday arrives i may look to make one of these then turn it all orky

Wow what a day, if finaly finished painting up 50 orks in under a month. This is not a easy task and its not one i reccomend, but on the plus side the army grows by 300 points. Pics will folow soon.
Im also im the middle af moveing house so i went to grab my carry case to pack away some armour and i have found two built and painted deff dreads and a five strong squad of kannz. Result. Having had some spare time the kannzs and dread have been weatherd too-pics to folow.

I'm not sure if you can call an ork army beautiful, but this one fits the bill.
I know it has already been said, but that color scheme is amazing. Simple but effective. I loooooooooove your armor. All those stompas....
Air power looks great as does all the tanks. The army has a great feel to it and very cohesive.
Have you thought about making a Gargant? Just wondering since you have so many stompas.
58624
Post by: jonny5
@ gorgrimm thanks for the love for the army. A gargant sounds realy realy cool. I will have to see if i can find any instructions on how to do such a beast. Automatically Appended Next Post:
This is the first of my decembers painting challange i set my self. 32 ork boyz with sluggaz and choppas, plus two big shootaz. Most if not all of the boyz are from black reach set. Automatically Appended Next Post:

This is the first of the five kanz i found earlyer in the week. Ive only recently dirghty them up a little with a powdering or the old boltgun metal, it give the orks a very battle hardend feel Automatically Appended Next Post:
hers the other two, Sadly for the little guy i had no big choppy armz left, so he looks a litle puny Automatically Appended Next Post: Ive orderd up some more kanz, i think three, pluz i have one spare and ive also got three in some break fluid cleaning at the moment. Once they turn up i quite fancy some IG sentinels to make Senti-kanz. Its one of the many little projects i have floating around in my head at the moment, i figured if i put it in hear it is "safe" from me getting other ideas. Like the one where i put rockits on tau gun drones ( any spares anyone ) Automatically Appended Next Post:

Nice Dreads!
So how much do you play? I use two claws and 2 Kustom Mega Blastas on my dread and it works out pretty well. I know a lot of folks won't have any shooty bits on deff dreads. I want more and I would definitely do one at least that has four claws.
your tide o' ladz is growing too, how many are you at yet?

Post by: Arakasi
Impressive.
58624
Post by: jonny5
@ gorgrim I dont play as much as i would like thats sadly for sure, i belive ive got one or two games in since the new edition of the rules came out. My previous list was based around a ork infantry horde, about 180 in total running across the battle field. KFF giving a much better survival rate for when i reached the enemy. That list mostly won games and occasinly drew, with only one defeat. Tho the new rules this list seems not so good, i like the idea of storm boyz, and im dropping the power klaws as they get killed before they strike.
As to how big the entire army is i have no idea, perhaps once i get it all online i will do the maths Automatically Appended Next Post:
.............so the only thing cooler than the deff dread is...Forgeworlds mega dread-top model. in hindsight i should have made a size comparison, but its big Automatically Appended Next Post:

My order has just arrived-its huge! i need to take a picture of this , theres so many models to paint and build i dont know where to start
58624
Post by: jonny5
Just a quick post before i have the joys of going to work. Inorder to improve my orks i think the next logical step was to make the bases more realistic, so here is one of the new style bases for my kanz
58624
Post by: jonny5
Heres the mother load of all box sets. Look on with envy at the shinys. Most of this lot will make my two thunder-orks, the rest is for my ogre army and the deamons are for when i find the right colour scheme/or i take them to gw to pay for the next storm raven. Automatically Appended Next Post:
So this is the base from this morning, Hopefully the model has some height to it now and look like its actualy on the battlefield, Theres a squad of seven to make intotal, possibly ten if i make the senti-kans conversions. Once this guy was painted ive threw on loads of weathering powders, once this is dry i will apply a coat of matt varnish to hold the powders and a few little bushes to the base. enjoy

This thread makes me proud to be an ork player, I have a similar army to yours, albeit with fewer super heavies and stompas! I even have an ork with a plan sign
58624
Post by: jonny5
@ Gork and possibly mork. Thats a strange coincedence, I first seen da plan on the gw website by someone who had there own models on there. Automatically Appended Next Post: Painting day today. Why must it take so long for each layer to dry. yesterdays kan is nearly complite and ive now begun work on a couple more scenic bases, again im waiting for stuff to dry. Think i will try and finish one of the bikers in the drying time
58624
Post by: jonny5
Things progressed nicely with the first kann, all finished off and armed up according to what i think he should have. Sadly the IG sentinels are only available single models, so i cant realy afford to make the three strong unit of them, so its only one sentinle spread out over several kannz-should be good.

Love the Baneblade with the Battlewagon on top. The side door really fits in nicely with the design and makes it look like a real battle fortress. I'd like to see more shots of the Baneblade and the flyer from different angles.
One thing though: For a Deathskull army I don't see a lot of looted things. If I could get away from my Evil Suns red I'd barely use regular Ork vehicles at all.

Ok here it is, i belive the first thunder-ork conversion step by step guide. It may seem lengthy but i figured everyone is at diffrent levels in the hobby so this instruction set should work for everyone. Also with a few tweaks this is easly a spacemarine thunderhawk. Im a little dyslexic so dont worry too much about my spelling. Please leave a comment if this is of any use to you and any pics of built thunder-orks. Lets try and keep the name as its pretty cool too. Should this project be a bit hard for anyone i will happily do the build for you. Automatically Appended Next Post: The kits ive used are at the moment two stormravens and a marine vanquisher, tho i imagine towards the end of the build i will have used diffrent orky kitz Automatically Appended Next Post:
stage one, get out them ravens and build to the instructions on the first page, missing out the parts where my thumb is and the part ive coverd over. Automatically Appended Next Post:
Providing you have not fethed up stage one you should have this infront of you. Also i should have mentioned im using the humbrol glue with the needle on it. Defo recomend it. Automatically Appended Next Post: The sections where the lights go i left open, being an orky machine i figured they would rather have more gunz than being able to see there target. The doors will be left open till the detail stage, depending on what you go for they will realy personalise the kit for you. Automatically Appended Next Post:
ONLY on ONE of the kits glue this section to the base Automatically Appended Next Post:
The two sections are now going to be glued together, i did snip a couple of interior details to get a even edge to glue together. Automatically Appended Next Post:
Glued, there will be a couple of upside down skulls to snip away at a later date. you will know whitch ones when you do the build. Automatically Appended Next Post:
Ok, now put the ravens parts to one side and get out this box Automatically Appended Next Post:
Build to this stage using the gwinstructions, however dont put in the inner doors as the extra armour wont glue on properly, perhaps the instructions are a little off from gw? Automatically Appended Next Post:
continue building to gw instructions to this stage, then stop. have a little break as them glue fumes will be makeing you high Automatically Appended Next Post:
Just a little reference on where things will be going and should be at this stage. Next up will be using the razor saw to do some serious remodeling
2050
Post by: Anung Un Rama
I never considered mashing to Stormravens together like this. Looks promising, keep it up.
58624
Post by: jonny5
There is much i can teach you, young padawan Automatically Appended Next Post:
grab your vanquisher, cut away the section that is behind the saw. this should be a clean 90 degree cut. On a side note you may feel like a boss with a power klaw muchin threw umie tanks. Automatically Appended Next Post:
next up were going to remove the rear section from one of the ravens. Again this is done in a 90 degree fashon. Automatically Appended Next Post:
Glue the two sections together, this then makes the body of the thunder-ork. Be carefull as to the height of where the wheels are, they should be just below the top of the model. At a later date the wheel section will be boxed in and it should all sit flush. This is very tecnical by orky standards. Automatically Appended Next Post:
Enableing a level finish i found it easyer to line up two existing sections of the ravens body with two fixed points on the vanquisher. Automatically Appended Next Post:
As all of the main body is glued together, whyle the glue dryes ive built up some of the smaller sub assemblys. starting with the tail section. Just build them and pop them to one side for now. Automatically Appended Next Post:
no surprises hear, this is the tail section Automatically Appended Next Post:
There is only two wings required, one for each side. these are just built from gw instructions. Automatically Appended Next Post:
Again only two engines are needed, built as per gw instructions. Automatically Appended Next Post:
Thats the wings, done.
2050
Post by: Anung Un Rama
Won't the wings be too short for the final model once you're done?
58624
Post by: jonny5
onto fixin the wings, step one. Remove the exhausts from the vindi, Also take off the raised detail arount the area, i think it was ike two small rectangles of plastic. Then give it a little tidy up with a sharp knife Automatically Appended Next Post:
Remove what i would call the spare flap, on the right of the photo. then alighn the square with the square area on the vindi, Glue sandwitch and one wings done. Automatically Appended Next Post:
repeat with both sides and hold in place untill dry. This is where a good quality glue is important. now the model is realy starting to take on some shape Automatically Appended Next Post:
If you followed the instructions clearly, the result will impress everyone. Guaranteed Automatically Appended Next Post: Feel free at this point to make areoplane noises and fly this into peoples heads Automatically Appended Next Post:
Timw foor something a little more skilled. take the spare ravens top tail section, cut it in half. Down the middle. Place one of the pieces onto some plastic card to draw around to make a template, Ive used four pieces from the plasticard, each piece is 2mm thick. Glue the pieces together, so you start with four bits then end up with two at 4mm thick. These are going to be the stablser wings near the fromt on the craft.

Just a quick shout out, one of my friends does lots of orky stuff on facebook, hes got a nice little page to have a look at. give him a like its called Grot orderly.
Progress is happening on the thunder ork, will hopefully have some more pics later today Automatically Appended Next Post:
Attatch the two mini wings. Keep them nice and level Automatically Appended Next Post:
close up on exactly where they go. Automatically Appended Next Post:
ok, so hear is exactly where they will sit Automatically Appended Next Post:
next section. build up two more wings. However dont add the warheads into front, as later on we can add a bit of dakka. however do put in the ends of the mistle pod Automatically Appended Next Post:
Remove the flaps that are behind the saw. Automatically Appended Next Post:
glue your baby wings onto the daddy wings like this. Automatically Appended Next Post:
A close up of where to sit the wings, i found lineing them up with the lower section of the vindis exhausts looks good, and theres a little more to glue too Automatically Appended Next Post: With the wings firmly in place its time to move onto the tail section. Grab the tail that was built earlyer, then remove the section under the saw.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
This bit will require some measurement. cut some plasti card to fill in the section that is the top of the thunder-ork, glue it too the top of the vindi wheels. you may need diffrent sized card depending on where the wheels sit, but should ultimatley sit level with the top of the craft. Automatically Appended Next Post:
If everything was measured correctly, glue the tail in place.

Thanks again to anyone leaving comments. Ive also got my first ultra marine thunderhawk to build for someone. should be a good chalange, as the marine variant will have sharp crips lines whear as this ork variant is going to be a more scrappy look, as if the orks have looted it. Automatically Appended Next Post:
Work todate. Automatically Appended Next Post:
More sub-assemblys next. This order is for the cockpit. It should be easy enuf to find the spare bits to make this section. Dont glue in any weapons as later were going to add some more orky gunz in there. Ive removed the front aquila with a knife and glued over a bit of plasti card to the entire section. Try mixeing up the plasticard as this will give you lots of diffrent details and make the model more looted. Automatically Appended Next Post:
Build up the gun, that is used by the servitor. Ive opted to keep the laz gunz, personal choice. Dont worry about the interiors. Automatically Appended Next Post:
Glue the two sub assemblys to the front of the craft. Automatically Appended Next Post:
This little section is a little more time consuming. by makeing a housing fot the top of the vindi you hide all the traks and bring the whole back section together. Ive used the top of a gun section from the ork battle wagon. build this as normal around the outsides and cut off the bottom so it sits flush, dont glue the top section on as you need to do some fiddly work on it Automatically Appended Next Post: Also now is as good a time as any to pull the top set of wings into the model by laying plasti card. 1mm thick to fill the wing gaps as you can see above Automatically Appended Next Post:
heres a close up of the zap gun, ive cut it and added a length of plastic tubeing to make the barrel. glueing the end of the zap gun to the end of the barrel. Automatically Appended Next Post:
Progress so far

Thunderhork?
58624
Post by: jonny5
ive tidy up the underside of the thunder-ork. This is fairly straight foreward to do, just bung up any holes with plasticard and any bitz you have in your bitz box Automatically Appended Next Post: let the fun begin, Its time to build up all of the dakka-dakka gubbinz. Raid you bitz box and get out anything shooty or blowy upy. Theres all the stuff from a ork bommer/dakka jet hear. Automatically Appended Next Post: As a rule of thumb i put the biggest bombs on the rear of the craft. The mistles sit nicely under the steadying wings and the shooters have been put into the top set of wings, remember when i said leave the mistles out, that was why-twin linked shootas. Automatically Appended Next Post: At the moment you may have notices that the armour plate look stuck on. My current project hear is to greenstuff weld each plat onto the ship. This will take ages so i may be gone some time. Theres plenty of tuts on how to make the welds, just search in google for them if your stuck.I would say at this stage you can start to build up your model with the instructions so far. Ive only the welding, adding more armour plates, battle damage, building more dakk, primeing, building a base, painting, weathering and varnishing then its job done. Oh and makeing some gunz that are where the doors are.

Allready done, i thought the same too. ive not done too many as the next time i build this im going to try to use one less storm raven to keep the costs down. this will then give me plent of oppotunity to make the pair very orky indeed.

Lovely stuff, mate. I really love how dark, gritty, and muted your color palette is. It's not something you see often with Orks but it works really well.
Would it be too much to request a complete army shot?

Thanks again for the replys guys, Sadly i cant do a full army shot at the moment as most of the models are in storeage-but one day i realy will.
As far as progress goes ive complited two of the five nobz, with two more nearly done. sothere should be some pics coming up soon.
58624
Post by: jonny5
Thats the nobz all finished up. five not so shiny warbikes off the desk Automatically Appended Next Post:
Ive not much more to say on this little project-it was good fun and im happy with the end result. ive also done a couple of extra stages of painting on the skin, usin a little camo green for a highlight Automatically Appended Next Post:
Wow, love how these have turned out. They were origanly glued onto a flat base and sprayed with a gloss black paint-Tho not by me as i got them in a trade, Im pleased to see they have succsessfuly been rescued and given a new lease of life. Automatically Appended Next Post:
So my orks are at a stage where im happy with them, theres a few mini projects to finish off, alongside the thunderork and stompa. But like any painter i find myself looking at other models and even entire armys-so instead of starting a new plog ive decided to show you my new army as i paint it alongside my orks..........so hears the testers Automatically Appended Next Post: Ive decided on a nurgle themed deamon army for fantasy! time being limited ive adopted a tin of army painter quick shade and decided on the colour scheme and army size-about 1500/2000 points of all nurgle models and the main scheme is the third from left nurgling, then any secondary schemes will be the second from left Automatically Appended Next Post:
onto the purchasing so far-20 plaugebearers and 3 plauge drones. Ive made some of the spare nurglings into unit fillers. they look the part when mixed in with a unit and it will save me some money too. Automatically Appended Next Post:
The first unit is built-i managed 13 models from the ten strong box. The next ten is a rescue job so i will see how they work out Automatically Appended Next Post:
Anyone wanting any deamons-these ARE the models to but. thats all for now as i need to get some paintings done
58624
Post by: jonny5
I hope this link uploads-been having trouble with the internet again-if it does heares the firs half of my nurgle horde complited. Just a little note the rescued models are in hear too and have worked out fine. Automatically Appended Next Post: Worked, brilliant Automatically Appended Next Post:
Onto the killa kanz again, hope its ok to be a bit random now as ive two armys going on atm. The three kannz are all finished up. they have even came out well considering they were damaged as hell when i got them. my next update should be the plauge drones finished
58624
Post by: jonny5
so it seems ive shelved the nurgle project, it was fun but did not seem to be going anywhear. Still ive got a few nice models to put into my collection. Been realy busy at works so my offerings are slim. Deciding to go back to one of my older armies and add a few bits to my ogres. These guys are all empire mercs so have all been converted, Sometimes so much you can tell that its a conversion. hope you like them and once i get a few more models finished i will add them up hear too..

well ive been away for some time now, actualy i did a trade with someone else on dakka and it went terribly wrong and i got quite a bit of flakk for it, wont go into it on hear but it made me leave the forum for some time. However im back again now, ive decidedd to keep this blog orky in nature from now on tho i will keep the other pics from diffrent army that are allready uploaded. Ive heard strong rumors about a new ork release this year so ive got a couple of kits to keep me going till they are out, a box of kannz and another dread. Automatically Appended Next Post:
BOOM cant say much more than that!!!!!

i love rusty bitz. it keeps my bitz box clear so now i have a realy cool emty box.
Automatically Appended Next Post: heres me lovleys, been running allover the battlefield so looking pretty scruffy little runts.
just base colours at this stage realy fun and realy messy to do
Automatically Appended Next Post: GUNZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
pretty self elplanitory
Automatically Appended Next Post: Now were talkiong serious battle damage, or perhaps the meks left them out in the rain?
Only one thing is better than battle damage, thats more battle damage to come.
Automatically Appended Next Post: All asembled and running rampant round the camp, also theres lots of weathering powders been used on this too.
Automatically Appended Next Post: also this guy has been finished off, he does not realy fit with the rest of the three so hes going to join another unit i would think.
Automatically Appended Next Post: them little grotz need a boss.
Automatically Appended Next Post: The boss
Automatically Appended Next Post: Automatically Appended Next Post: Well thats some of the klankers finished off, my next task is to add to the rank and file of the army, alongside doing a little how to guide for them. im looking at going for a new green tide. Automatically Appended Next Post: 100 orks, i will need a couple of the classics in there.
Automatically Appended Next Post: 100 orks, i will need a couple of the classics in there.
Automatically Appended Next Post: mong, sorry about the re post Automatically Appended Next Post: yes its some of the gorka morka range.
Automatically Appended Next Post: this fella is the star of my little painting guide
first off build it and get the base materials on
Automatically Appended Next Post:
so the next stages are. drybrush the base and cloth in a dark grey (adeptus battle grey) over brushed once dry with a lighter shade of grey (astronomican)
paint up some of the leather work and boots in rhinox hide or a rich golden brown colour.
add a splash of blue with a strong pigment blue or a couple of layers of a slightly less pigment rich colour blue, ive found any blue works well. Automatically Appended Next Post: a dark silver colour (bolygun metal or the newer lead belcher) added.
58624
Post by: jonny5
make im green. ive gone for the older foundation range of knarlock green it works realy well with this skin, the newer waaagh green does work but its a little darker
Automatically Appended Next Post: now make im blac. apply a liberal wash of nulin oil shade, if you have it badab black will work too. once this stage is dry you can have this as a tourney level paint job.
58624

got me a couple of classics finished, they fit surprisingly well when mixed into a horde Automatically Appended Next Post:
gorkamorks models, again nice little models. i feel they add a touch of something diffrent to a tide, would definatley do some more of these guys if they came my way Automatically Appended Next Post:
thats what i call progress, around 30 or fourghty orks ready to battle. whith will equate to roughfly 30 or 40 percent of the horde Automatically Appended Next Post: got some more orks on the desk. going to do a fat block of twenty, so far so good built and based with the first coat on them, theres even 3 slightly diffrent models in there too. Just seen what could be the new 40k box set too with orks vs wolf in it, sadly dissapointing to start with but will see once it comes out. i was hopeing for a couple of new units or at least cheaper meganobz. thanks to everyone for there support and encouragement. it gives me motivation (well extra anyway) to plod along doing the army. there is no end in sight plus with the nex storm claw box set coming out i think the orks will be coming very cheap to buy second hand in around six months or so-cant wait to get hold of that new war boss!! Automatically Appended Next Post:
another one rolls from the painting desk and off into the sunset. i did go for the green in the lights and pipes and amm realy glsd ive gone for it too. such a diffrence and it realy pops Automatically Appended Next Post: WIP for the last two battle wagons, probably the most complex of them all-if not one of the biggest models in the army. I did get a few skaven basecoated but they totaly held no intrest for me so they are back into there tunnel for another few months, back onto orks now started work on a couple of charicters to get them off the desk. Ive also got a trip into gw so undoubtedly will come away with some goodies from ther too

got these two finished in record time, literaly under a day. good fun to paint tho the mouldings were not the best ive seen. been thinking of a unbound flash gitz army about 1500 points worth, probably not very good but could be a good little addition to the force as a whole, plus i could get the pirate boss in there too.
58624
Post by: jonny5
New recruitz have arrived, theres a couple of limited edition grotz, 10 flash gitz and these are all led by the infamous ork badrukk. time to get the glue and clippers out. 1500 points unbound incoming.

OMG these models are some of the best and biggest ork kits ive worked on, taken around two days just to build them, soooo good, definatley recomend these to anyone wanting a fun little project. i will get some pics up soon but im sure the gunz are bigger than a spacemarine whitch makes them like ten foot tall

heres the start of the freebooters, they take ages to assemble as theres sooo many choices, seems that it allmost impossible to get two models the same. theres some realy cool little details like meck legs and armz, one hand has a cigar on it too. one of the best gw kitz in ages Automatically Appended Next Post:
the second half of a ten man squad, ive planned ahead with these as i figured i will never get the brus in behind the massive gunz they own. anyone unsure about these should definatley go get some Automatically Appended Next Post: ive had a cople of spare afternoons and a hungover day off so heres the results so far, just block colour and a wash at theis stage

DAY OFF WORK. its been spmetime since ive had one of these, coffie made, ps3 at the ready and a robot pirate ork on the desk rearing to get finished, should be a good day aiming to get the meganobz finished off today, plus ive got a copy of zombicide board game and would like to get ten plus zombies ready to put into armypainters quick shade then its time to build up some more oversized pirates for my orks. will do a couple of pics tonite.
58624
Post by: jonny5
I got a little carried away painting up zombies the other day so did not get chance to upload any pics. so the day of painting went well to be fair, got the mega nobz finished off plus ive a cool bunch of zombicide models on the done pile, sadly no freebooters got finished, or even built as im still building now. heres the first nob coming up
Automatically Appended Next Post: next up is the whole squad, realy expensive models these (in real money) Also i did notice that on the packageing it says four models but realy theres only three nobz and a grot oiler in the box-felt that was a little cheeky of gw. moaning aside theres a few leftover bits and pieces for later conversions and room to buy another box and not have the modles all looking the same. Painting wise these were some of the easyest models ive done for ages
Automatically Appended Next Post: Next big section of the army is to build up another ten ork squad of flash gitz. will add a few pics once they are done

made some progress, its slow i know but ive been insaneley busy at work and a few other things too. so ive managet build ten more of these guys and get there bases done. instead of batching them out ive gone and done one at a time, or in this case just one. hope you like im

theres seven left now to paint up on the desk, ive lost some of the momentum on them now so i may take a sidestep into something else for a short time, ive also got two more boxes that are not even opent yet-they may get changed down the local gw for a couple of boxex of mega nobs instead.

Post by: jonny5
Ive got a weeks holiday to take, probably no updates going to happen but ive lots of painting scheduled in. aiming to get the whole ten ork squad of flash gitz finished and hopefully a trip into my local gw to get some reinforcements. Looking for potentialy some of the new ork walkers, a box of big gunz and possibly some knights to loot up. Oh and of couse i got a space hulkgame held back. So that there should keep me in models till the end of the year, plus whats ever is still on my desk and in the wardrobe

ive not done much noteworthy things with the greenies of late, there were three leadbelchers and a tyrant for my ogrekingdoms army alongside a huge unit of over one hundred skaven in it, all complited so i thought i would like a reprive from them all to get back to some good ol green paint. ive finished all the flashgitz now, kapting badrukk is on the desk with only his hat left to finish. I did put this model off for some time but now ive got work on him done he turns out to be a fun little fella to paint. hopefull i will get him done tonite then its onto one of many other projects, of whitch theres a few boyz still hanging round needing painting, a bommer still in the box, a crap ton of tanks to convert or my current but expensive quest will see me take on three knight titans and loot the tits off them. oh plus a stompa to finish and i do fancy both the gorka and morkanought, watch this slightly indecisive space.

All in all its been a fun little journey painting up this army. Time to move on, i will continue to add to this blog as i get into some new projects or armys. Currently ive just opend space hulk game and getting into the marines in it, going to go for a more time consuming methord of painting but it should yeild better results, plus theres not too many models in the box or indeed a marine army. will get some updates on when i get time

thats the last two marines painted and based up ready to game, either in 40k or indeed a game of space hulk. its not taken too long to paint up the set and im realy happy with the results, at some stage in the near future i would like to go over the brown purity seals with some highlight. idealy i could re do the gems a little better and im considering a slight change to the crux colouring for a greyer tone. possibly some highlights to the objective marker too......possibly
as for the rest of the nids in the box...on the to do list in around three projects time.
firstly ive got some more blood angels to build up and paint. i went for a finecast chaplin in terminator armour alongside a box of the newish blood angels terminator assault. a little project.
Marines do take me a little time so ive also opted for some nurgle deamons as i can do them quite quickly and its a variation to paint up, ive allready a small force, well probably a good sized unit so a couple of boxes of plauge beareres and some nurglings will be a welcome break.

ive dug out the other half of space hulk and figured the stealers need some love too. going with small batches so i dont need to slog threw them all at once. first days work, made bases and painted them up for the most part. early days. going for a classical themed colour scheme, something more garish than would ordinaraly be used on 40k models. Automatically Appended Next Post:
nearly finished the blues, just a final highlight. ive done more models than i have pics so i should be having regular updates on this one. also i figured this colour scheme can be applied to larger models in a regular army if i decide to go that way with them. Automatically Appended Next Post:

So im allontrack painting up this guy, in a day. ive tryed to cobble together a painting guide for anyone to use. first off its basic assembly and prime the model with halfords car primer, its better than a traditional black as the model finishes a few shades lighter, plus its loads cheaper. the base is a cork tile clued down then primed in regular chaos black spray Automatically Appended Next Post:
Skin, kantor blue-i got with a couple of thin coats to not lose any detail.
Metal. bit harder this one, ive used tinbitz, an old gw paint. in order to make it duller and age it give it a coat of carobourg crimson shade. once this is dry waterdown either hawk turquoise or temple guard blue, the let it flow from the brush into the recess, gw makes a tecnical paint for this-ive tryed it and realy dislike it Automatically Appended Next Post:
stage two. do a solid coat on the skulls.
the skin i only highlight certain points, allmost only whats on the upper part of a model keeping everything else darker in the recesses or where the creature naturaly shades it.
use the colours in the pics for these stages. Automatically Appended Next Post:
Give the skulls a solid shade with gryphone sepia, the new earthshade works just fine too, its just i still have a drop of this to use up.
do edge highlights in the blue, once its dry give it a liberal shade of the purple, again this stage uses the colours in the pic Automatically Appended Next Post:
re edge highlight in the blue followed by a solid base coat of the purple on the head hands and feet. once its dry use the lighter coloured purple to pick out raised areas, more so on the face Automatically Appended Next Post:
to finish the skin add a waterdown coat of the emperours pink t theprevious highlights, once dry splosh on some more purple shade.
tounge, firstly use the darker colour-screamer then when its dry highlight with the lighter coloured pink, horror Automatically Appended Next Post: more to follow once i get it photographed

I've not been doing much in the way of plogging recently, I moved house and had a huge clear out of models. Most of my irks have gone now. I needed the cash and they just seemed to be everywhere. Also they never got played so we're a little wasted. I've decided to continue my nids and blood Angels, I'm painting slightly differently in regards to takeing more time and care on each figur. This seems to be going better as I'm not throwing out loads of money each month. I'm a little behind in uploads so will get on it asap. Also some projects did not get fully finished and are in store age at the moment. That's all my nids and half my Angrls

I'm really pissed off about the death of warhammer. Two lovely army's I have with no need to see the light of day again. With that in mind I decided to convert some of the new aos stuff. Here's a Chaplin, fairly easy conversion to do but very happy with the results Automatically Appended Next Post: I'm uploading from my phone, no idea how to get the images the correct way

Wip. Very early stages of painting. I'm going to start playing at some point so needed a good hq. Another plus is the colour will add another dimension to the force.

He's much closer to finishing. I was going for a covers face but it won't fit in the armour. Not a fan of bare heads but it is what it is

Just having a test to see about loading from my I phone. Wip of one of the limited edition space marine captains. I've not much left to go on him, or indeed the army as a whole, say about thirty models all in

Blood Angels are looking good, the headswap on Karlean is a good shout, I did the same. Not a fan of bare heads on Space Marines.

Lovely Miniature!
Have you considered painting the winged skull on the storm bolter? and adding some color to the ceramite studs on the armor? I think it would benefit greatly from that!
Cheers!

There's a couple of thing I'm going to go over and re-work on the army as a whole, the boaters are something to consider too. Mainly it's gems and purity seals getting a little more work. The stuff are a little small for me to shade or layer so I've just opted for the bright green to make them pop a little.
Next up is my salvage squad, sounds cool but they are literally describing a five man squad I've pulled from my blitz box

Here's the salvage squad finished up. I don't really need them
For anything but had them so decided to paint them
Just for the fun of it.

Back to my angels after a break painting up a slew of tyranids. I got hold of dark imperium so it's time to add a few prinaris to the force.
Trouble is I can't remember what colours I used on the other models-going to do a stage by stage painting tut to remind my self for future reference.
