I got a request to post my finished models and here is the first installment of them. All of the vehicles are scratchbuilt and also made from plans. They are made from card stock and laminated. I have build threads here on most of them, and how I constructed them. In this first installment, I have the prototype of my Super Chimera before GW came out withtheir version. The plans for the chimera are in this forum over at my Warhammer armor and things. The motorcycle was scratch built using the GW model as a reference and the Sentinel is from plans found over at zealot.com in the warhammer section under armorman's thread. Those are awesome. Love the papercraft DIY stuff. Really sticks it to GW's price hikes. As long as you don't turn around, produce and sell the buggers, then good on ya!

Thanks for the comments guys. The price is what made me start to DIY. One of the first models was the Baneblade using the templates from White Dwarf a long time ago. In fact, the old rules book used to have a section for DIY models and how to apportion the points for them. White Dwarf use to have many ideas and templates for making terrain and buildings. There is a precedent for scratch builds in 40K and Warhammer.

These first models are prototypes and they were not painted. The reason for this, is to show that they are made from paper card stock. Some people cannot believe that they are made of paper so I do this purpose. "PAPER, IT IS JUST NOT FOR WRITING ANYMORE."

Here is the next batch of photos. These were made from templates found over at Zealot.com, with the exception of the Eldar Jet bike. The bike was a small challenge, in making the curvature of the frontal beaked hood. On the Tau flyer, it is made from paper but the compound curves were enhance by using wall spackling and smoothed to make the curves. In the Tau vehicle, I repainted it and did the markings free hand. On the Eldar jet bike, I used decals from the GW kit and some free hand. There is one more vehicle, skimmer to go, which I will post later after editing the photo. Again, all of these have a build thread here on how I made them. The Vulture is heavily modified paper model and is one of my early attempts at making Warhammer40K vehicles. Enjoy and see you all next posting.

Those painted papercraft models look so close to the the actual GW ones I had to take a closer look to tell the difference. Keep up the awesome work!

If they're anything like mine they're just as sturdy (or nearly) as the 'real' thing! In some instances, even more-so.

All of my Warhammer models are heavily laminated with card stock, That is a paper about the thickness of a business card or the thickness of a vanilla folder. They will withstand heavy usage for the tabletop wargaming. An added bonus, is that they are also easy to repair and white glue is not as toxic as plastic cement or super glue, and much cheaper for a bottle of Elmers white glue.


Here are a few more photos for your enjoyment. The motorcycle and side car are scratchbuild and made along the lines of a world war 2, German side car unit. The figures are GW cut to fit the vehicle. The dreadnaught is my first attempt in making one. This one is very fragile at the swivel hip joint and the lower foot connector. The upper body is very heavy which is the reason for the week hip and leg joints. The fix for this problem is to glue the whole joints more often and not make the heavy torso moveable. Maybe GW should lower the cost of their plastic minis. They sure make playing a bit difficult with the changing of the codexe's.
As soon as you get the rules down, along comes the next change. When i started playing, the humans had a large disadvantage against the alien races, especially the Eldar. I do not play as much any more but I still like to build and design 40K vehicles and stuff. As I keep mentioning, Over a Zealot.com. There is this designer that has made almost all of the imperial army vehicles and many that are not in production but mentioned in the Warhammer universe. You can find them over there under Armormans thread and you can download them for free. There is a wealth of information and reference on how to make the paper models.

Here are a couple more of my vehicles, the Jet bike and my version of a manned walker for the Space marines.

The manned walker looks a little wonky, but the jet bike is awesome, silveroxide!

The walker was an earlier attempt to make a walker for the Marines. It was originally going to be a support flyer and I added the legs to it. I am glad that you like my version of the Space Marine jet bike.

You can find the dropship here as well as the APC and some other goodies as well. The dropship comes in a mini size, hard to do if you have fat fingers. There is a lager version, which I printed in landscape and it came out about 1/72 scale. Check out my build threads and you will notice the start and finish times are about the same as building a regular plastic model and detailing/painting it. There are some exceptions, like my present build model of the San Salvador Spanish Galeon. The slowdown on this one, is due to the physics of letting the glue to completely set and cutting each individual wood planking by hand.



Here are two more models for the moment, The Landing Craft and the scout vehicle. Both are scratched built.

Excellent work, top notch stuff. Painted versions do not give any indication as to what they're made out of, this is really impressive and very inspiring!

How long does it take you to do one of these ? The quality is phenomenal.

This is one of the ideas behind building them this way. It gives the illusion of being made from plastic or sheet styrene.

To all, I hope that I have instilled the note of curiosity and to make some of you think outside of the box. That is to either buy the GW model and modify it or to scratch build your own. Over at Zealot.com, there is a build thread on warhammer 40k by armorman, check it out and you will find just about every imperial vehicle there as free downloads. Almost all of them are depicted in color plans and some in black and white so you can design your own army unit or marine chapter.. There you will find imperial, chaos, eldar, orks, dark eldar, and some necron stuff. You will have to join, but the site is free and start of with an introduction. My build threads are there as well under the same avatar. Enjoy and see you all around the forums.

Thank you for your comments. There is an artist out there by the name of Eli Patoroch. He has designed almost all of the Imperial Army armor and many variations of each. He has the templates for the baneblade, and its variations. Many variations of the chimera and space marine vehicles. You can find those templates at "zealot.com" and under the warhammer section by armorman. You have to sign up, make your introduction and have fun.

In the meantime, here are some more models that I no longer have in my possession. A landing pad predating the one from GW. A lightning, Vulture and rhino. Some of my figurines. A battlestar Galactica Stealthstar. The Stealtstar moving in front of the Raptor and a viper.

Amazingly well done.

Thanks for looking in. At the moment I am busy with a large project, the San Salvador Hybrid. It is a very detailed ship and physics (Glue and paint setting) Holds me back. I have to wait while one section sets before I can continue. I am usually done with a model in lest than a month and this is still ongoing for over two months going on three.

This is brilliant stuff and really quite inspiring! I'm going to try this out for sure. Thanks for showing these. I'm a huge fan of your AT-ST, I'm going to Ork-ify that bad boy!

The majority of the Warhammer stuff is from the desk of Eli Patoroch and you can find his templates over at http://www.zealot.com/ and http://www.papermodelers.com/ You will have to join, make and introduction and browse the forum for a myriad of paper models. Eli's models will be under "armormans warhammer" post. His models are readily available though out his post. Please join up and post some of your works there as well as here.

The aliens dropship can be found at http://aliens.humlak.cz/ It is a difficult model to build. I changed the perspective from portrait to landscape and it unscaled it to about 1/72 scale. There are some more very intricate models there as well to include the whole landing base of Handley's Hope and a small version of the APC and a 1/35scal version. There are also some full size models of the Marine Assault Rifle and Judge Dreads peace giver.

Thanks for looking in. I used to scratch build with styrene, resin, bitz and whatever I found laying around. I really do enjoy the GW models and the Eldar models are the hardest to replicate in paper, due to the curvatures, but as you can see, it is possible. Some of the Tau are hard to build too but they are also possible as shown with the Piranha model. There are more models to come this way. Enjoy and see you around the forum


BTW, wait until the Chinese get a hold of molds and start to recast the figures.

When I saw this I was like...

I know what you mean, I have seen people just stare like Stewie too when they see my models. That is why I have a couple of models unpainted so that they can see that it really is paper.

Here is the APC from ALIENS finished. The build thread still continues for the moment but here it is. The drivers door opens and the troop door slides. The wheels can be positioned into a turning radius and the turret turns and slides on the rail system. The top panels are removeable to show the interior details. Overall it was an interesting model to build. Enjoy while I think up what next. A Baneblade, maybe.

Here are the final photos of the Baneblade. I am pleased as to how it came out. It is based on the Warhammer GW version but with slight differences. I hope that you have all enjoyed the build as much as I did in the construction. With all the lamination, it is sturdy enough to withstand table top gaming and it almost weight the same as the plastic version. In the final photos, I did not show the opened engine compartment and the crew hatches are closed. Eli Patoroch, the designer, did a fantastic job in the design, I just worked it my way but it is still true to his design. Enjoy and hope to see you all soon with my next project.

At the moment, I am working on another 40K imperial guard vehicle. It will wind up as a conqueror or punisher on a chimera body. Until then and I start on a new thread, enjoy and see you all soon with more of my works.

As far as I know, GW will not accept scratchbuilt models at a sanctioned tourney. You can use them in local tourney with approval from the gamers or the game arbitrator. It is a shame, because before the Armageddon time frame, the rules book had in the back a DIY (do it yourself) guide. It would list the points that could be attached to a game piece. Back then, White Dwarf had templates for making DIY models, the Bane blade is one of them by Tony Cotrell, and also they had Rhinos and wave serpents too. There are a few White Dwarf baneblades posted here from way back in time. Anyhow, thanks for looking in and for your kudos. See you around the forum and in my next build thread.

In actuality, I have built them in the past out of styrene. I can guarantee to you, that if I accidentally dropped a styrene/plastic model off a table top. I would have a bit of a repair to do do on the model. The knowledge that I gained from my days of styrene, helped me in the construction of these paper models. I tend to laminate heavily and the sheets and panels can compare to styrene. Once the parts are laminated, I treat the parts as if they were styrene. Due to their lamination's, they are as sturdy as one made of styrene, and resin will or may crack. There is no flexibility in resin made models. My models can withstand constant use and the builds are very strong because of this. I can drop one of my models off the table top, and continue playing without having to break out the glue. The only danger/enemy to my builds, is WATER or FIRE. Other builders make theirs straight of the printed templates and they tend to be thin and flimsy, I go past the designers instruction and make the process much more sturdy. Well here is the finished product of my Daimler Dingo. It was a very widely used scout vehicle used by the British and its commonwealth. This one depicts a vehicle used by the Rhodesian Army Z.Scouts. It has the parent organization badge of the SAS on the sides. It was a very interesting model to build and it also falls in line for use with the Imperial Army or a great loota vehicles for the Greenies. The Galleon is finished but as of the moment, the build thread continues. This is one of my longest build threads that I have done. At times, I felt like putting a match to it. Now that it is finished, I am pleased as to how it came out. I hope that all of you who have followed the build thread, enjoyed it. And now, to move on to something else, maybe something Steampunk which I have not done a model of yet.

For the Horse drawn vehicles, they are rather large, maybe about the same scale as the Star Wars figurines. As for the Galeon, the forge world and especially the Necromunda or Epic figures will complement it. Photos are attached. If you cut off the base extensions, they will fit to scale.

Here are the finished photos of the Battle Star Galactica Crash Cart.

Here is my HALO gun built out of card stock, paper craft. The painting embellished the model and took away the paper look to it. The HALO gun can now be used as a prop gun for cosplay. I believe you mean card instead of cars. I use heavy card stock that almost feels like bristol board. The insides are re-enforced with chip board which is a very heavy cardboard that is solid and not corrugated. The gun is originally designed to be built with regular card stock, about the same thickness as a business card or index card. If I had built it as originally designed, it would have been too flimsy. The beta build is done. I have to work on some details. the leg armor is still off and the helmet is too cylindrical. These are two items I have to work with. Over all, it came out better than expected and when the build begins, it will be on a separate thread. The model is about the same size that GW came out with and still has on special orders a while back. I believe that that series were called EPIC. I kind of like this size, not too small and not too large but leaves room for detailing. Here is a size comparison with the GW figure. See you all soon with more an my build thread.

Thanks for looking in and for your comment. Since it is made from cardstock/paper, it should burn rather well. The build process will start once I finish tweaking some of the parts.

I will return with another finished Space Marine soon but in the mean time, here is one that has taken me a while to finish. It is over at http://zealot.com/threads/the-uhu02-colonial-viper-appreciation-thread.174905/page-31#post-992866 The thrad is built by other modelers who constructed the Viper each to his ilk. My version is an upscaled one with some more enhanced details. The original template maker is UHU02 and his models are hard to find and they are free but not easy to find. It is a great model just by itself but as mentioned, I have to do it my way. Enjoy and see you all soon next year.

That Viper is just jaw dropping. What scale is that? I would love to use that as a Stormtalon. That would be legendary.

To hell with giving GW money. I have been loyal for 6 years and always bought form GW to support them. Now I say screw them, they are never getting a single penny out of me from now on. Paper craft all the way or buy from other toy makers who can pass off as wh40k.

The scale is about 1/25th scale and rather large. but if you can get a print out from UHU02, you can downscale it. In fact, the original model is about 1/48th scale.

To The last two comments, It is a shame that GW does not recognize many DIY models anymore, unless they are scratch built from original GW pieces. I remember back in the 90's, White Dwarf had the templates for the Baneblade by Cotrell, Rhinos and even a Wave Serpent. In fact, there are some Baneblades here that were made from those templates. Again, back in the 90's, the rule book in the rear section, had a DIY point score system for vehicles and guides as to how many points they were worth. After the rule book for Armageddon, the DIY section disappeared. It is a shame, because some tournaments had those models and were then allowed in sanctioned games.

Sometimes I do use GW paints but Testor or any other acrylics are just as good. It all depends on what texture I want to accomplish. For metals, GW has the better colors. For over all drabs, I use Hobby paints in a bottle like crafters acrylic, Americana etc. For bright colors, Tamiya gives a better sheen.

Yes, that model is simply "WOW" Keep in mind that is rather large, about the size of GI joe original size or the same as a Ken and Barbie doll. The Sister of battle and the Space Marines are also the same large size.

Thanks for all you do! You certainly inspired me to look up papercraft more seriously. I had a foundation based on what I did growing up, but your post here led me to so much more, and made me re-evaluate just what the 'limits' to paper truly were (i.e. not many limits...).

He hasn't been active here, much like myself, more of a lurker on DakkaDakka... But I've seen more recent stuff on some more specialized (i.e. paper card model) forums. He's a rather busy man (and his most recent work isn't for himself, but for grandchildren...). I'm certainly hoping some activity here might reward us with an update here!

Just got the sad news today.

Our friend here, Silveroxide, has passed away late last night, December 1st 2023. This thread will forever be a testament to his creativity and master work in card model building.
