This is more a general purpose blog which will initailly focus on the rebuilding of my old CSM force and soon the start of a (mostly converted) Chaos Dwarf force for Fantasy. Along with occasional imput of new ideas for my existing Daemon, WoC and Beastmen armies.

I've currently got my Black Legion in progress repainting some old models. So far I have a Sorcerer, 2 10 man squads, 2 Obliterators and 3 Bikes at varying stages of painting with the next group of Kharn, 16 Berserkers, 12 more Chaos Marines and 5 Havocs still in the rebuilding stage. I'll have the first images up somepoint tomorrow hopefully.

Started working on Kharn and the Berzerkers.

Basecoats and washes done now. Just highlighting and details to go with this guy.

The next three Berzerkers basecoated. Though I think the champion needs more work to look less like a Red Corsair.

The first squad is now basecoated and washed so I've gone back to clean up all mould lines before moving on to highlighting. The next update should come over the weekend with a start on the basing scheme.

All 8 guys now free of mould lines. I should have the bases finished by tonight.

Looking good, I hope to see more in the future, I really like the Obliterators, how did you do the flesh? It looks really good.

The bruising is created with successive washes of Baal Red then Leviathan Purple.

Well I hope you don't mind if I 'borrow' that technique if I ever start a Chaos army, seriously, this is one nice blog.

First Berzerker is just about done, though I've not yet decided what colour to do the eyes yet.

Got somewhat surprised by the news of WoC next month so I've got some Fantasy back on the paint station. I'm aiming to finish this Berzerker unit before I start adding any new stuff.

Just got the last of my coursework assignments sorted so I can crack on with some painting the next week or so.

Got all the airbrushing and heavy drybrush work out of the way now. I'm now in the process of tidying and painting the details then the final step is snow on the bases. Aiming to have these done for the weekend.

Progress this week: Back onto the footsloggers with the second rank of my Khorne warriors.
Also been revisiting some Necrons to get them ready for a small tourney in a couple months.
I know that the purple looks really bad in the pics, this scheme doesn't seem to like artificial light.

I've started going to a great club up in Blyth called the Northumbrian Adventurers Guild, Sunday afternoons. I'm trying to find some other places to get games mid-week nights or Saturdays... local GW at the Metro Centre always has plenty on but seems a little geared towards total beginners or setup for really short games?

Have you tried Newcastle GW? Game night is on Wednesday and there's also a decent chance of games on Saturday.

Been a change of priority for the next two months. The WoC will be taking a back seat as I work on finishing my Necrons for a small 1 day tourney in May.

Had an absolute blast at Invasion on Sunday, both my first tournament and first time at Warhammer World. Surprised myself somewhat finishing 7th out of 24. Also nice to finally use a fully painted army, though I'm now taking a break from Necrons and will soon be working on a new 40k daemon list.

Been focused on Fantasy and X-wing lately so the Daemons are on the back burner for now. I'm currently trying to finish my Khorne warrior unit, which is progressing at the usual rate (ie: slowly..)
In the meantime, heres the newest additions to the host:

Progress on the Khorne Warriors. Some details still to finish for the bone and then just the cloaks and weapons

So, I've decided to enter Armies on Parade this year with my WoC. The idea for the board is a section of an Empire village ravaged by the Chaos host with a defiled altar as the central feature.
At the moment this only exists as a rough concept and I will possibly make a few alterations as I go along. Using these sketches as a guide the initial plan is:
(Front to back)
-Warhounds: Dispersed and placed amidst fences and various debris
-Warrior blocks: Placed either side of the altar
-Chosen and Chaos Lord: The leaders of the force in a prominent position atop the altar. The Chosen will be converted Incubi with cloaks added and new weapons for halberds and shields. The Lord placed behind them will be the mounted Slaanesh Lord with some minor conversion.
-Dragon Ogres and Shaggoth: These guys will be placed on the cliff section at the back though I will probably make it lower. The Shaggoth will be slightly higher to help him stand out.

Painting wise, the Khorne Warriors are almost done and I've started on the rest of the Dragon Ogres and Shaggoth. I'll have the first w.i.p. pics up when I finish the skin.

In between working on the Dragon Ogres Ive started on a mounted Slaanesh Herald for my Daemons. Its still just a rough mock up but I was looking for some opinions on the pose. The idea is for the rider to look like it is perched on the mounts back, in a similar way to the Diaz Seekers.

Progress on the Shaggoth. Got the basecoats down.

I'll be starting work on the Chosen next, besides the board itself, these guys need the most work.

Started work on the Slaanesh Chosen now. I am using DE Incubi as base models as I think they fit the Slaaneshi aesthetic quite well. The main additions will be GS'd cloaks (which is also my first serious attempt at sculpting) and halberds made with brass rod and plasticard. So far I've made a start on the standard bearer minus the halberd arm.



The standard is made with a DE spear arm with a banner top from the Seekers. I have a few ideas in mind for the banner itself and will put up some sketches of those plus the ideas for the halberds and shields.


Here is the initial attempt at making the cloaks..


.. and I can see straight away that I need some better sculpting tools and a lot more practice at making the folds. The top of the cloaks around the shoulders will be covered with fur to match the regular Chaos Warriors.

Got some ideas down for the banner and halberds.



The banner is a stylized Slaanesh symbol. The text reads: 'Pleasure in Pain' written in Dark Tongue runes from the 7th ed book

Basic idea for how the halberds will look with a scale comparison.

Need some feedback here on the size of the halberd blades. Does it look fine as is or should I make it smaller?

Progress on the halberds




Also, now the Lord has arrived I can start planning the layout for the display

Started putting the halberds together.


The standard and champion, (middle two) are the most complete. The guys wielding their weapons two-handed and command models will have shields strapped to their backs.
The GSing on the helmets is to smooth out excess vents.

Now that I have all the units needed I have started to plan the layout for the display board. Model wise I'm only waiting on a DE Lahmian for a Slaaneshi sorcerer.



As to progress I've been finishing up the Undivided warriors between working on the chosen. Over the next week I'll start building the altar, finish painting the warriors and try to finish building the chosen.

Started on the board itself, concentrating on the ground level for now.

The base is a sheet of 3mm foamboard with unit trays cut into it so the models appear integrated into the board.

Aiming to get this unit built up by the weekend so I can see how it goes in-game.

Spent most of today building up the bases for the Chosen.

Starting with a sheet of foamboard, I measured out the places where the Lord and Chosen would be positioned and marked the outlines of the bases before drawing on the tile pattern:


To form the tiles I cut out the individual bases to work on first:


Then I cut along the lines of the tile patterns about halfway down and carved away the top layer so the tiles look rougher:


Next I used a triangular file to widen the cut lines to define the shape of the tiles:


After finishing the individual bases I then did the same thing to the altar floor:


The finished bases. Next I'll finish up the weapon arms for the Chosen so I can work out how they will form up as a unit.

This blog is great! As a chaos player myself I'll definitely keep my eye on this thread!

Got the two characters in the unit built up. Sorceress (left) and an Exalted Champion BSB (right). The Sorceress is just a DE Lahmian with some fur sculpted on her back to tie in with the rest of the unit. The Exalted is a DE Archon with a scratch built halberd and the standard is a mix of Chaos Warrior and Seeker banners.

Construction on the Chosen is done bar the shields and detailing on some of the halberds.

After a solid week and a bit of building I'm now cracking on with painting. Spent the weekend working on the mounted Lord. The rider is now done, the mount is still w.i.p and is also acting as a test for a Slaaneshi scheme I have in mind for when I return to my Daemons.

Brief update with the project. The judging for Armies on Parade is on the 14th so I need to kick into overdrive this week to get the painting finished. What is left to finish:

Then there's just the small matter of building and painting up the display board.

Right now, I'm getting basecoats down on the final few Chosen and cracking on with the shields.

Most of the Exalted is done now. I'll leave the blending on the weapon and cloak until the morning when I've got decent light.

I have had to simplify the board partially because of time and to avoid the display becoming too crowded.


Annnd I've run straight into a calamity. The board just isn't coming together at all and I've found I have insufficient paints to finish it.
I can still scavenge the altar for a nice display for the Chosen but the board itself is now a lost cause. I'm kicking myself for leaving the board too late.
The sole consolation is that I've now got a nice looking WoC army, Ill get some decent pics up of the individual units up once the Chosen are done somepoint over the weekend.

Going back to working on my Daemons, testing out a new Slaaneshi scheme based on how I did the Chaos Lord's mount. I've started with The Masque for now and will get the rest of the army restarted once I've finished with the Warriors.

I dont play fantasy but i love the techniqe that you are using to paint your minis. The base coat, wash highlight looks very clean.
Nice conversion work too. The sheilds out of plasticard and the GS cloak. Good to see you are just going for it with every technique thats out there.. Love it. Cant wait to see more. Keep up the good work.

Got the GSing done on the Herald so I can get started with repainting the Slaanesh contingent later on today.








Reason for the slightly slowed progress on the Herald is largely due to this lot. I joined a Necromunda campaign starting down my local club and have spent most of the week converting up a bunch of Delaques. They are a mix of Chaos Cultists and Guardsmen with some GSed coats and plasticard bases.

Pausing briefly from the Daemons to finally get my Warriors up. Most units are done now and I'll have the Chosen up later on as I'm still working out their banners.

Haven't had much time for painting the last month due to uni workload, so any updates will be slow up to the middle of December. Ill be spending a few hours here and there working on my Delaques as our clubs Necromunda campaign is getting going now.

First semester at uni over now so I can now get back to painting, and at last get started on the Chaos Dwarfs I've been planning for a while now.
The first unit up is the 10 man Fireglaive unit that made a brief appearance earlier in this thread. Here's the first guy acting as a test model:



The scheme for the armour is a dark grey-blue with brass trim. So far the armour is just about done and I'm about to start on highlighting the brass.

Got a small 1k tournament in a week so working on getting my daemons up to at least table top standard.

Been quite a lot busier than I'd thought the last week so, rather than having to rush through the Daemons I'm instead taking my Necrons to the tourney since there're already done. This means I can now crack on with the Daemons at my usual pace (i.e. glacial).

Started on the skimmers while I have an idea for another crack at the crystal/holofield effect. This will be based off a diamond pattern so I've used some thin mesh as a template to ensure the pattern is roughly even across the hull:

Picked up Betrayal at Calth last week and decided to have a brief break from painting greyscale for a while. Going for a similar scheme to what FW use with clear green/blue over silver:

That's largely why I'm using the mesh to mark the pattern out. It's both a timesaver and neater than freehanding over an uneven area that size.

Since mid July I've been mostly working through a small commission project for a friend - a PanO NeoTerra force which has also been my first experience with Infinity models. This project is now almost done and I've enjoyed painting these models so much I'm now considering starting a force myself once these and some more Imperial Assault units are done. That is as long as my mediocre painting ability isn't bringing down the quality of the models too much.

These two were the first models of the group completed. A Bolt Trooper and Aquila Guard:

After a long period of mostly painting up individual models I recently started up a smaller scale project for Shadow War games that I'm hoping to have completed before 8th drops. I've gone for a team of Sisters of Battle partly for some variety from my usual Harlequins and partly as an excuse to try out some conversions and work on some models I'd struggle to find reason to otherwise.

The whole team is based on the Sisters of Silence models with only minor conversions mainly for some of the weapons, Simulacrum and heads:



As things stand the assembled models form the starting core of campaign force along with a Seraphim spec-op ready to be called on when needed. So far they've been painted up in sections enough to be playable while I get the converted parts together.

Started to get the first few heads put together over the last couple days. The heads themselves are made with the Silent Sister heads with the faces from Wood Elf Sisters of the Thorn in place of the masks, with the exception of the Flamer specialist. The hair was just made with green stuff:



I didn't worry about the texture of the hair too much while sculpting as it was easy enough to define with painting, the Superior's has come out best so far:

Managed to drive the greenskins off after downing 4 of them. The team's coming together nicely and should be ready for when we start a proper campaign.

Sisters are looking glorious bud, good start to their tabletop careers, those bases are looking fantastic as well, really eye catching.
