Excellent idea with the carved bases.

The Simpsons version of the "Raven." Ah, back when "The Simpsons" was a funny show.

thankfully someone shares my views on the simpsons... the last seasons have been all but interesting to me... a show where there is no itchy and scratchy carnage or where homer is not choking bart is a not worthwhile one...

Thank ye! Yeah, that's a good tutorial I worry about getting them skinny enough though.
So far I've found a newspaper, a tome crawling with tentacles, lots of skulls (Yay grimdark!), a shovel, a telescope, an ornate knife, a HUGE cleaver, a couple of COD skulled eagle things that make respectable objets d'art, a giant rat, an even gianter rat, a crawling hand (gotta use that for a Forbidden Alchemy investigator or critter, that's one of the adventures!), a tiny stag, and a couple of mushrooms. So far...

Flagstones should be ok, fits in with the general aesthetic, and as you say, will mix it up a bit.

Good idea about the different ground schemes, I would do that!

Also, while the sacrifical dagger was a good choice, the presentation of said item lacks in storytelling...either let it look like it is stuck (into something like the ground or other...) Or place it on a table, stone altar or log...

Can you think of any others? The garden doesn't really feature in the game (well, not really), although I could do carpets I suppose.

Funnily enough, I had the same thought about the dagger, so unprised it and snapped it in the process *Sigh* I'll need to find a victim to stab.
Do we like the hall accessory? I think the cod bit fits ok, and the bigger base of monsters gives me a bit of room. Speaking of which, is there enough flooring on its base? Does the blank space look weird, or ok?

Graven's Bloggit 4th October, prepare to Enter the Deadzone! @ 2014/08/09 10:52:31

Post by: monkeytroll

Carpets and rugs should work well - underground passages could lead to caverns, so rough flooring does fit, but not sure if it would actually look right with the others....maybe inscribed rock floor?

The COD piece makes a suitable icon, unsure of the blank space at the back....can't quite make out what's going on there. It could be a suitable location for a scaly hand or tentacle to be reaching from on some bases though.

Don't you open that TRAPDOOR!

Depending on how the dagger snapped, you could now have it laying on the ground as a broken dagger. Those are often laying about the place in that kind of setting.

Agreed, I'll work on it. The blank space was to indicate edge of hallway, but I might just continue the flooring.

Ah, the joys of 80s British kids TV references. Should try to get Duckula in there, too...

Broken dagger's an idea, I'll think about that.

Meantime:

The sister has happened upon an old newspaper, and lights her candle to examine further. (Much happier!)

The spiritualist has found a trapdoor in the flagstones, and is deciding what to do. (The pose of the mini was just right, but I had to cut her from her base pegs. Terrifying, will not be doing that again!)

The good doctor is prepared for aiding others, whilst being careful not to drip too much blood on the ornate carpet. (use of brass etch for rug design, which will see also later on a critter base, maybe turning into a tentacular design)

I found some more gear - hammer, saw, etc - and might have sourced both some heroquest furniture and LAB (crazy nordic mini game of mad science) bits.

Onwards!

Rug will become more apparent when painted, promise! As for trapdoor, don't fret:

"Note the irregular board pattern. Now if I just use my cane... as I suspected. A trapdoor. And indeed, an elder sign, if I'm not mistaken. "

Yep, flagstones work

That's a hand of glory he's just dropped to get a better light from his flash

If it's not a tentacle, then it's obviously a hose which is about to squirt a jet of cold water up her skirt

Squidder sounds interesting, but as with all my comics these days I'll wait for the eventual trade.

Cheers! Crawling hand, I'll try to get a better angle. They're one of the mini critters in Forbidden Alchemy. Some sort of tentacle, on the one 2 left to go, one's going to be flagstone and grate, the other boards and litter. I think once primed they'll be more obvious.

cormadepanda wrote:I like your worm graven. The bases is also a nice +.

Worm? Yeah, that's what the ladies say Bases have worked well, primed up, I think:

Bit blurry, sorry, rushing before work!

Now, unfortunately, one of my witches has gone missing. I suspect a "friendly" 3 year old who came to visit otherpeopleshouldchecktheirkids but it's my fault really for leaving stuff in the grabbing reach of grubby mits, and it could've been much worse. I'm sure it'll turn up, but as a substitute I'm thinking about this:

However, it's pushing 28mm and the Mansions minis are really 25mm

Also, that then got me thinking about possible other substitute minis:

Damned ones, not exactly sure what I'd use them for. Possibly alternate zombies or maniacs?

Was supposed to make it to a Trek OP yesterday, but life got in the way, alas. However, the TO was a good friend (erithromycin) so he's going to reschedule it after a fashion - lots of folk cancelled on him, so he's going to rerun it in 3 weeks' time. More time to assemble my crushing Jem'Hadar hordes (i.e. get a J'H Cruiser for the new Dukat and Weyoun, and possibly even paint it)! Victory is Life!

So a little distracted, cos back into first full week at work, but the good news is that the missus found the missing witch (in the Postman Pat toys - well, he does have a black (and white) cat, I suppose).

Had a game of mansions on Tuesday, first time as players we've ever won (the game is ridiculously hard). Byakhees everywhere, everyone mutating like crazy - enormous fun and literally came down to the last turn.

On a less good note, the sale of my sisters has fallen through It's a mate, so I'm not too fussed in that sense (he's having a really tough time of it generally), but it does mean that they're back in the field for anyone interested in acquiring them...

I'm actually much more annoyed that the prospect of dungeon furniture has totally fallen through without explanation from the guy. Still, I'm consoling myself with the theory that this forces me to paint the investigators just now, and I can worry about the monsters anon.

Hey ho,

It was a weird.finnish game.of buildong a lab to breed critters (4 types, essentially nurglings, Aliens, mythos worms and mini yetis) and then attack your opponent's lab - so a resource management skirmish game. It was massively.over.complicated, but cool. Wonderful minis though!

And a couple of shots of the Maniac, who's a bit further along:

The relative lack of detail in the miniatures' faces is annoying, but I'll do what I can with my limited skills. On the plus side, my usual crazy eyes are ideal for this

Not sure about the blood drips on the shirt, though I'm very happy with the puddle of blood leaking into the floorboards. He needs more variation in his hair, too, it's a bit samey with the rest.

Just taking my time, enjoying these guys. It's nice having lots of bits of furniture to play with, but I'm happy to get on with painting what's primed just now, I realise. So more investigators will be a-comin' after the critters!

Lurk away buddy! Agreed, I've added some purple in with Blood for the Blood god and it's darkened it nicely.

Ah, that's for the insert monster card:

Special attack's on the rear (each variation of a creature has a different special attack, not always bad, sometimes completely horrific - you don't know till it gets you!)

BTW, did I show you lot the LAB gribblies?

Cute little monsters!

Fixed the hair and blood.

Onwards with the nun. I really dislike this model, it's the only one of the investigators that I feel that about though

I think it's the ridiculous eyelids.that bother me most. Still, I'm happy with.the newspaper on the floor.

And the cult leader is coming along.nicely;

I.think I'm going to a purple group and a yellow group of cultists, as there's 2 leaders.

After this, more on.the Cthonian and start investigators I actually want to paint! Might try to sort out a jem'hadar cruiser, too.

The Nunn looks like she's been punched in the face repeatedly (not your painting... it's the sculpt). I really like the way the maniac turned out. The cream colored shirt works nicely, especially with the blood.

Nice job on the cult leader, and maniac looks better with the hair change.

With those eyes you should paint the nun in a reptillian/fishy scheme, she reminds me of some kind of deep one/human hybrid or similar....

Oh, such silliness Clearly you all need a distraction: some attack wing.

Played the Borg Collective OP1 scenario last night. You build a 90 fleet and then get a random ship that's ~20points (a little ship, basically) plus some points for crew on that one. You try to avoid the borg (which you can't attack) while blowing each other up as you avoid being assimilated/destroyed.

I had a tank of a Jem'Hadar Battleship, Hideki fighters and my random was a Jem'Hadar attack ship (which is awesome, as it triggers the named Battleship's ability).

Here's some fun pics:

We are the stroopborg, resistance is foo-tul...

Closing on erithromycin's fleet (Martok his ship, a gorn raider and a random Maquis fighter)

Brutal firefight, in which I forgot to use one of my abilities (Invaluable advice) to make my volley of torpedoes take out both his little ships - a careless error that cost me the game.

Much fun was had, and much learned: I need to learn to hang back with the Dominion and let the fight come to me, Hideki fighters are lethal - really hard to blow up and allow you to effectively shepherd the borg cube (it goes after the nearest target), and always take dorsal weapons on a battleship for when Klingons sneak up your tailpipe.

Also, got the last ship for the Dominion, the Cruiser, which is gorgeous, huge, and has now had a wash:

Victory is life!

Silliness? Here? Surely not? There must be some mistake, for we are not silly people, nor is this a fitting site for silliness. I think perhaps you have us confused with that postbox over there...

Sounds like a fun game was had...and you should know better than to allow Klingon's near your rear....

I like the Dominion Cruiser, but not completely sold on the flight stand....looks a little clunky.......

Cue Worf Voice: "Little?" It's a very fun game. There's a fair amount of cheese at competitive level, but if you play scenarios and/or faction pure, or at least a friendly tournament meta (which we do) it's a great game.

Smart girl

So having rebuilt the garden wall yesterday for 4 1/2 hours (damn, but that's some serious lego) I decided that today I wanted some toy time.

First, a long overdue tidy out of the paint drawer:

And on with some Mansions.
Some furniture, to use for the various obstacles in the game:

Obviously, the books needs various writings, scrawlings, unauschprechlichen etc.

Initial colours all done and first washes on the investigators. Those on the ground floor:

(shh! don't mention the cthonian!)

And those exploring the basement:

Some basing details have changed, for example the scientist has the giant rat as the wife's terrified of them and the resemblance to my microbiologist missus is striking.

The kids want to play Talisman tonight. Who am I to argue eh?
Yours insincerely,

Thanks on all counts. I'd love to see them introduce rules for the arkham horror minis in mansions, and vice versa - same bases after all!

But now for something utterly bat crazy.
Everyone's favourite Tasmanian, nerdfest09, is running his 3rd annual comp here http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/615288.page and it's a Frank Miller Sin City theme for both modelling and painting (monochrome with single spot colour).
Whilst the prospect of the painting side of it is very intimidating, I just had to do it - love the Sin City comics, and I thought I could have fun with this. Having batted around a couple of ideas - painting up Gaunt, doing a chaos marine in 4 sins - I decided that there was really one thing I could do - a femme fatale, a stripper in the 40k verse:

I must be mad...

Going to add some wires, maybe raise the podium up about 3 cm (and with a 50mm bottom to conform to rules), maybe a crossbar on the pole-banner?

And the investigators. Their faces need tidied but the casting is blobby, and you really can't see it at tabletop level, so I may just leave them as they are. Happy with the colours and would rather move on to monsters. Also, they're not this shiny, I'm just being quick and dirty with the lighting.

Thanks Knightley! And S_L, well, I'm glad to hear it

And now here she is, with her killer heels (bolt pistol grip stilettos )

The basic build on her is largely done, now to add chains, tassels, feather and pipes

And then, there's the question of spot colour. My plan is to make lots of piles of bank notes on the podium and have them spot coloured green (after all, it's something important to them, right?) - reasonable? The alternative would either be red on the scarf around her face (she is a woman of mystery) or the shoes (vid. killer heels). Thoughts?

Yup I love the pose of that hand, too. See if I went with green I could have white blood on the fist's fingers. Which would be damned cool.

you sir have such a vivid imagination pressed in plastic and white metal.... man!!! I must say nerdy“s comp really is quite an inspiration...but I have no time....no time...no time....

the green paper money in my view would not be that much of a "sin city" spot colour... iirc red is the preferred colour...?

the cthulhu stuff is mindblowing as usual... but then again cthulhu is all about mind blowing, right?

You're absolutely right about the green. It tends to only be the primaries. I'm torn on whether to "bloody" the fist or not. The red shoes are really tempting. Glad great Cthulhu has melted your head once I've got this out of the way I'm back on the mythos (actually, there's more mansion/lab furniture getting primed just now in the garage).
And your kind words are much appreciated

You are perfoming wonders with the build dude, looks stunning.

I personally would go with the red heels, or what about her hair being golden? I know goldy was not a dancer in the movie but hey artistic license! I like the idea of the money still but not sure about making that the spot colour. I think the only green in the movie was goldy's eyes!

Regardless of the competition this is defenately one of my favourite conversions ever.

I like the hair idea cam... that would be something less obvious than using red in this context... as my idea for the red shoes... was thinking the old OZ story...but the hair is less clichƩ...

as for cthulhu... well the whole 1920 setting has so much known but yet so much alien vibes to us that we fall for it with ease... at least this was what has done it for me every time I played the mythos...

I like the idea of the green money, but you may find it difficult to make it stand out and still look like money, as it would normally be a pale green which may not stand out from the grey. Although, with a black floor, the high contrast may work.

I'm tempted to avoid red as a colour, but it's still an option at the moment.

Another option is to colour the skin. After all, with any stripper, the skin is the important part...

So work progresses, just adding some base details. I like the incongruity of the mundane with the otherworldly, hope you do too.

The really should be a little blue creature next to the one on the left called Berk (80s British kids tv reference)

I found the missing witch! Also, I've decided to mix things up a bit: some creatures will be wandering around the garden (vid, maniac and the maggoty heap)

Still unsure whether to attempt to paint the witches nude.

Cultists

My word, there's a lot of these. Running out of inspiration for the last few.

Zombies!

Boring sculpts, but hey. This was where the garden decision began, btw.

Really happy with the Hound appearing through the portal. The Crawling ones are absolutely this juxtaposition with everyday objects I was talking about.

Oh, and another bit of furniture (I know, shameless redecorating): an arcane altar of some kind, not at all what I used for my SoB tanks...

LAB really was a wonderful resource for dark madness. I do recommend it for bits of weirdness!

Cheers,
graven.

I didn't know that there was an auto-fix in dakka now either. nice. Yeah, HPL himself described horror as "when you go into the garden and the flowers are singing" which always intrigued me - knowing that something is fundamentally wrong, yet knowing you're not mad (or are you?) Too true

So the mighty gitsplitta is running his Mantis Maker contest once more (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/13500/289929.page#7271840). I really enjoyed entering this last time, and Gits is a good guy (I suppose).
Spoiler:

This was last year's:

So despite being largely out of 40k, I got thinking.

And thinking.

And after an hour of planning in my head, at 11pm at night, got up and started building.

The Head Hunter returns to enact his unending penance:

A few things to explain in terms of bits and logic involved.

I wanted him to feel old school in many ways. Gits excels at the RT aesthetic, so that meant I wanted to use some proper RTB1 parts: hence the classic head and studded arm (also, mk6!). To continue the idea of keeping old equipment running, which is very MW, I went with a Mk4 helm (hanging from handlebars) and used a SoB power pack as they're a little more compact and again, has the feel of earlier armours. He has a rimmed right pad that is more Mk3 that anything else (it's a red scorpion one). As for the rest of his armour, we've got torso and left hand/axe from Redth's retinue; I love a power axe, they feel very mantis-y to me, and there's stuff in the fluff about MW making their armour incredibly intricate and ornate (hence the BA legs, also). His right arm is a BA with hand flame thing, as one variant of the MW symbol is a flaming mantis claw - I found myself wondering why, and this is where my brain when. I'll have to resculpt the tassel, as it's hanging the wrong way, or remove it. His belt accessories - because he needs gear, he's going to be in the field a lot, often alone, I think - are DA, the little canisters just are aesthetically pleasing to me, and for the belt dagger I've replaced the eagle wing with the end of a daemonette claw to give me something more mantid. The cloak is from an empire outrider, I like the idea of him just getting off the bike, starting to ready himself for a mission and unfurling the camo cloak - but he's spotted something.
Speaking of the bike, yup, old school metal jetbike. Again, RT tech, something very fitting and that gits himself has tried to use as extensively as possible. I want to keep the base simple - the focus on the MW - and I'm planning on basing it, rather than in my usual urban style, but bedded down in long grasses (akin to the Tranquility look), although in muted greens - I want him to blend in, almost.

So that's where I am just now

Thoughts?
graven

Thanks one and all. Unfortunately, the more I look it, that right arm is just... Wrong. Maybe it's the tassle (still in stripper mode), maybe the flamer (what self-respecting marine wouldn't have a bolter), maybe the shoulder pad means it's all a bit too red scorpion.
Dunno, but it's the weak point of the build.
Wasn't sure where to go, then came across this veteran sergeant pic:

Now. This really got me thinking. The shoulder pad like a layered bug carapace, with subtle marks of honour - that sings to me. I love the colour palette too: it suggests camo without being camo, strictly speaking, and from above would blend in - good for a jet biker, whose adaptive camo wouldn't kick in till he sets foot on the ground. Give him a combi-flamer instead, and think he'll be set. Thoughts?

Or, you know. Fools.seldom differ

Playing around with combi flamer ideas:

Option 1

Or

Option 2

Obviously just rough.mock.ups. Or I could. You know. Use a real one?!

Colour palette and layered pad would look great, good call.

For option 1 on the combi would you have a sten style sideways mag for the bolter?

For option 2 I'd say a smaller flamer nozzle would look better if you have one.

I think I'd go for the conversion rather than a real one, but that's because I can't think of an actual model that uses an older mark of bolter in a combi-weapon - if you have one then all good there I suppose.

Graven's Bloggit 4th October, prepare to Enter the Deadzone! @ 2014/10/18 12:35:13

Option 1 has sideways mag, but clearly not clear. That nozzle is a necromunda one which is kinda why I want to use it. I'm leaning towards #1 overall too.

...

Isn't the magazine usually on the inside for this type of gun? Probably fine and would likely get in the way on a model.

Just say it's better It feels like a coherent weapon now. More gs'ing required, naturally. I wondered about a scope but I think that would look cumbersome.

Dr H wrote:It's a good look.

Ta Well they're often that side mounted box type, but I like banana clips and it works (in my brain, at least) with the aesthetic - I can see how the name Flaming Claw came about (flamer, with strange curved side piece).
Now, one last possible modification: a tiny servo arm at the side of his head (by the earpiece). I just think it would look cool/mantid. Yay/nay?

Hola, quick update. There will be more a-coming.
Had a great time playing the battle of wolf 359 with the help of some Klingons:

A good scenario: as with so much of the hobby generally, if you don't try to break the game, it's super fun.

And colour blocking:

More to come, including a death eater mask for #1 son!

Thanks chaps.

I *think* he's done. This isn't the final photo: I'm going to take the time with the light tent etc. However, for the time being, I give you Sgt "Flaming" Claw:

I've used Vallejo military colours mostly - Green Ochre, Russian Uniform, English Uniform and Luftwaffe green - along with Smoke, Black Glaze and Skin Wash. I've not used any metal at all, and tried for some NMM (eep). In the pic he's a bit shiny - still wet - but still might need to hit him up with some brush on matt varnish.

Anyway, I'm pretty happy with him. The composition works for me, it has a narrative of sorts, and he looks like a MW. Your thoughts?

BTW, more Mansions stuff ahead, along with a death eater

Thanks chaps for kind words.

Sorry for quiet spell, late oct into nov always a bit bonkers in teaching. I haven't been completely idle, gradually carving the floors into my Mansions minis, but nothing pic worthy really.

Bit up and down in the head generally, but que sera, etc.

Did have great fun doing #1 as a death eater for hallowe'en, and mask by graven scared the snot out of a couple of 3 year olds, so must be doing something right. Much alcohol was consumed, also. Various beers and Laphroig, huzzah.

My great uncle died last week - 93, a heck of an innings, but still, tough to process mentally. Being so physically distant from family at times really is a bugger. Still, on the other side of the coin my parents have decided to take the plunge and relocate near us, so hopefully childcare, if not bickering, will ensue at some point in the next 12 months.

In gaming stakes, keen to get my head round the revisions to STAW - essentially, you can't build giant federation crew killing machines or loaded up borg cubes, to give everyone else a chance. We'll see how it goes.

And... a crazy idea.

The marvelous Monkeytroll is running the League's latest contest here and I had this plan to do a modular Tholian web (fun!) but essentially it would've just consisted of jeweller's gold thread and transparent flight stands.

So I went in the old bits box.

I have 9 of the Mantic Deadzone accessory sprues, those could make walls right?

But of course, this is the League - got to made from extraneous crud lying around the place.

And then I had this idea. It may be crazy, or I may have just invented a kickstarter-worthy project of doom:

The bases are the clips from the RoB board. Inside each is 3 hard card sleeves, of the baseball/ccg variety.

Completely modular walls for any game at a fraction of the cost, anyone? You could literally slide in "hulk in space" walls, "mad mansions", "infinite future", "heroic saga", "space web" or any other printed wall template you fancy, and slot them round as you see fit.

Now you could also paint them, of course, which would work, too

Your thoughts, mes amis?

graven

Condolences on your great uncle passing graven. I understand what it's like to be far away from family. On balance, having your parents move closer should be a good thing. Perhaps more scrutiny or nattering, but certainly more involvement with the kids... which is a good thing.

The walls are quite interesting. The clear versions could be energy shields, the painted regular corridors or walls.

I like the Tholian web idea... weren't those hexogonal?

Yeah, my folks have started to realise how much they've missed. Thanks mate
In staw, mechanically, Tholian web is done in 3/8th" strips that gradually cover the game area. It would be
...
Dull

My thoughts exactly on the clear ones - in fact, my original thought was just to wash them, as various energy shields.

You might experiment with washing only the inner panel, leaving the outer two clear (if I understand your description correctly). I think it would add to the 3-D effect of the whole thing. Give the walls some internal depth.

Oo yeah, try to keep the transparent nature of them, they look great as forcefield-alikes.

Maybe build some frames around them, or posts of either side of them to show where the field is produced from.

Thanks for ideas all!
Right, so, quick proof of concept:

Hulk, energy, rusty rivets and Tholian web.
Obviously these don't fill the sleeves fully, but they give you the idea.
I think that generally the clear edge of the sleeve makes the energy field most interesting. More generally, they could just be left transparent with a painted border. I like the LED idea and reckon making a couple of light up stands would be cool.
Thoughts?

Huh.
Oh well.

Anyway, here's some big horrid monsters:

A Cthonian and Byakhee. Lots more to come.
Spoiler:

Lots

A little bit of proof that I got rid of that pesky mould line on the bolter:

Aaaaaand back to my other, original idea for MT's contest: balloon stick modular Tholian web:

The flight stands are from STAW, with half the normal stand height so that it doesn't interfere with play. Thus far, I have about 2ft of "web" to play with. It'll be sprayed black and repainted golds, I imagine, though I'll leave the stands clear. It's #1 son's birthday Friday, so I'm hoping to acquire more balloon sticks from unsuspecting locales.

I thought that I had commented on those, might have just thought it... I'll think louder next time.

I'm still leaning towards them being transparent.
Lighting them up would be nice, but you may need something to scatter the light from otherwise you may find that you're only lighting the top edge of the things and not the bulk. Some carving/scratches on the middle one (or some other piece of clear material that can be slotted in) would do good for an energy field/web.

Good job on the monsters and interested to see where the balloon sticks go.

Indeed. Occupational Health review today is now leading to physio though.

Good plan on pva, like the gloss idea too.

So, news. For the time being, I am going to have to stop painting and modelling. Pending assessment, I'm looking at surgery for my right hand as the problems are definitely not going away (phone is being typed with my left!) I'd never really realised quite How right handed I was before. In the short term I have to minimise what I use my hand for in terms of high Pressure - so typing, writing, holding a brush. Long term us positive but it's a heck of a pita. It's not to say I won't do any at all but it's certainly a scaling Back.
Anyway, only erratic updates for a while,
Cheers y'all,
Graven

Damn I hope its not a common problem for painters, I've had a few hand twinges myself recently. I was watching an old lady fishing in her purse for a 5p the other day and thinking hell if I ever get that arthritic then that's my job and all my hobbies out the window. Of course she was about 70 and by the time I'm 70 I expect to be totally dead as there will be no pensions in the grim darkness of the future.

Hope it gets sorted out.

Thanks you to all for wonderful, kind, funny and above all supportive words. The update is stronger painkillers and a priority surgical referral. I should be glad, but p&m are a flat out no for the foreseeable doc would rather I be signed off work but not quite there yet. Although Mrs g did find me doubled up in pain from opening a drawer yesterday, which I don't want to happen in school. It's very hard not to use my right hand (silence, smut monkeys) but I'll figure something out. At least attack wing is pre painted onwards, and so forth,

Very sorry to hear about your diagnosis graven. But at least its in the realm of treatable things, even if it does take surgery. I have a subluxation of my right shoulder (which means permanently stretched ligaments) which is also fixable only by surgery. So I'm with you man.

Mrs. Graven has a right hand. Just Sayin'.

Get the surgery of course. And do the physical rehab work. All of it. No jokes here. If you want everything back to normal, or as close to as possible, the ordeal of Physical Therapy-- and oh it can seem like torture at times-- is very much worth it.

Take advantage of the down-time, if you can. Try some new games maybe?

Have a swift and complete recovery.

Hey gang, thanks once again for kind words. Have been a bit up and down - yesterday was pretty awful - but I got my special magic splint today and the difference it makes. Can drive without throwing out my shoulder to compensate, for one thing. I have to be careful, using it at night and a max of 2 hrs per day, but if that gives me some practical time - dare I even say, some p&m - then I'm happy as Larry, and possibly Curly and Mo too. It's very early, of course, and have to take things slowly, but still - nice to have a positive.

I hope you get well soon and that the surgery is as painless as possible graven. It could be worse...

I had eye surgery once. They popped it out, surgically corrected it and then popped it back in. Nasty. Had to do eye physio for a year. People still find me in contemplative moments rotating my eyes clockwise, then anti-clockwise.

Thanks gang. So, it's been an up and down sort of a week. Played Mansions of Madness: The Silver Tablet on Tuesday with my usual crew and... we won! Having never beaten the keeper, this was cause for celebration indeed. Generally, we felt that having the 3D scenics in particular really added to the game. Turns out I need to make some hiding places (we improvised by using the Very Large Chair) - I'm thinking I should get some barrels or something.
We also played Tiny Epic Kingdoms, which is a cracking game, like a cross between Catan and Rio Grande - simple and fiercely sneaky, as well as pocket-sized. Great for a family or beer and pretzels game, definitely one I'll be picking up.
As you can see, I'm typing. Having had a frustrating last week at work - 2 days lost to jury service (but at least I read complete Dredd vol 9 on my tab), I'm feeling a bit more limber. Avoiding painkillers where I can, I've got some devil's claw (no, really) which is like an analegesic ointment, and just being careful.
That being said, I'm dying to do some modelling. Off the back of playing Mansions, and also having got the new Dominion Fighter Squadron pack (woo!), we have the following:

An SM ammo trunk repurposed for Mansions as locked trunk/cabinet (or impromptu hidey-hole, I suppose) and a techno-lab altar that's a bit wonky but hey, I'm in pain - going to have various tentacles coming out the cracks. Hidekis with a first wash on, too, I <3 these wee fighters, and hopefully they'll be done for this Tuesday, with a final STAW game of the season (assault on DS9 is in the offing, methinks!)
Later peeps, and all the joys of the season,
Graven
