Hi all,

I'm starting this blog to hopefully spur me on to completing some projects. I'm going to focus on making terrain and working on my first minis for Infinity. Hopefully I'll be able to get time to work on some other terrain projects and minis. Especially with Malifaux 2nd edition coming out soon.

I've been wanting to make some city terrain ever since hearing how popular Infinity is becoming. So for my birthday this year I got a nice foam cutter.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0017NS8H6

The Proxxon 37080 Hot Wire Cutter THERMOCUT is pretty nice. You can adjust the temperature of the wire and adjust the angle along the top arm. There's no markings on the top bar, so you have to be careful when setting the angle. For example I accidently cut a bunch of pieces that were slightly off because the wire wasn't set to exactly 90 degrees.

Anyway, so I printed out a template I created in Inkscape (free vector drawing program) and used it to cut out a piece of 2" foam. Next I turned the foam piece on the side and cut it into 0.25" slices which I used to make the below building. It's a little rough, but I at least knew my idea would work.

To make my cuts cleaner I borrowed some of my kids' Duplo blocks and made a fence and my cuts have been MUCH smoother ever since.

I've been sketching out a bunch of other ideas too, but they're starting to take shape and I hope to have a nice city I can bring to my local store and get some games in. The building are coming along nicely, but I just hope I don't screw them up when it comes to painting. Any tips or advice would be awesome.

Also, this weekend I picked up my first two boxes of models for Infinity, so I'll be able to play 200 point games one I get them assembled. I also hope to get a model ready for the painting challenge, but we'll see how busy the month is.

Love the foam terrain - looks interesting

Good luck getting everything painted up

The terrain looks great so far! You've shown the quality that can be achieved without breaking the bank. I'm looking forward to seeing you get some paint down, on the miniatures or terrain.

A little update.

Supply drop

I picked up a 1" hole punch so I could start making my own counters for games like Infinity and Malifaux. Luckily it was on sale at Michaels so it was only $6. After seeing Theophony using cork to simulate beat-up concrete I had the idea that it might work well for asphalt roads too. I found a 18"x 48" roll of thin cork that was self adhesive and picked it up from Michaels too. Using their 40% coupon they always have on-line it came to $7.19.

I cut out a 16"x4" piece of the cork and spray painted it black. Then I stuck it on a 0.75" thick piece of foam so that it will be sunken compared to my street blocks which will be 1" thick. I need to paint the sides black eventually, but I like the effect.

and here's a close-up of the detail

I also got a few minis from my Ariadna starter set for Infinity assembled and primed.

I went with a gray primer to speed up painting as I'll just keep the pants and coat that color.

Great job on the foam board bbb. The pieces are coming out crisp and clean. They very much fit the infinity image that I have in my head. Will keep track of your progress.

So, no posts for a while since I was working on an entry for the painting competion. Voting is now live so head on over. Once the competion is over I'll post some more pics. I didn't have much hobby time to work on anything else, so I'm looking forward to getting back to more progress on other figures and terrain.

No updates for a while due to that painting competition and life stuff, but I figured I should post up my entry to the blog.

I've gotten all the other models assembled with the exception of one Briscard due to having a miscast head. Once I contact Corvus Belli hopefully it won't take too much longer to get the replacement part.

So far out of my 10 models I've purchased for Infinity, one is complete (the below Para-Commando), 5 are assembled, primed and the basecoats started, 3 are assembled, and the last one is just pending that head. I'll try to post a WIP shot soon.

As far as the competition goes, my fourth from last finish just gives me a lot of room to improve

Haven't updated for a bit, but I've been plugging away at things. My kids have been sleeping better and I just started watching Breaking Bad, so I've had more time to work on things.

Here's a pic of my work area right now.

I've gotten six of my ten Ariadna models painted so far. The paint jobs aren't the best, but I'm happy to at least have the models finished to a playable state. I've decided to focus more on getting minis painted than getting them painted to an awesome standard.

The remaining four are underway. The replacement for the miscast Briscard head came in, so I have to put him together and prime.

With Malifaux 2nd edtion out now I've gotten that bug again and have been working on finishing up some models that have been almost there for a while. I'm hoping to get back to my local store and get some games in in the near future.

Haven't updated for a while, but still doing some stuff.

Been working on some terrain. Nothing finished yet, but some are getting close.

Here's a ruined supply building.

Shot with some minis for scale.

Shots with some paint.

A little more finished and with some walls I'm working on too.

Here are some rocky crags I'm working on too.

Still need to work on making a game board and some forest templates, but I'm making everything with Malifaux in mind, so all the crags/hills are in 1 inch increments. The stone walls are also 1 inch high.

I wrapped up some minis too. Nothing special, but at least they're ready for the tabletop.

Still have to take pics of a few more models I finished, but here's what's on my work bench right now.

Two more Malifaux minis done and photographed.

I stopped in my FLGS (http://www.showcasecomicsandgames.net/) yesterday to pick up a Battlefoam Shield Bag since I have 10-15 GW cases, so I didn't need new foam, but I was sick of trying to make those hard plastic cases be efficient. Since I want to work on playing Malifaux, Infinity and Warmachine I think I'll be able to make that work with the Shield Bag. Really happy with it so far.

While there I saw a couple of guys playing Infinity and that got the urge going to work on those buildings again. So after playing around a little I knocked these out this morning. Next I need to see if I can paint them up nicely.

Some more building progress.

This one is just basically some shapes I slapped together. I actually put some paint on it, but I need to figure out how to make it look more buildingy.

Here's a group shot.

And here's the start of a new idea that I'm thinking about calling Foamcromunda...

I like the bunker thingy with paint, and the last building, they look promising And did you make the regular buildings modular? They look easy to use aswell

bbb's blog: currently hobby hodgepodge @ 2014/04/23 14:34:52

Post by: bbb

They're kind of modular. I've been trying to make a design that I can cut out and assemble quickly without needing to do a lot of gluing in order for it to stand up. I haven't quite cracked it yet, but I keep trying new ideas. The main issue I've had is hiding the seams.

Post by: Chemical Cutthroat

Man you are really knocking those foam buildings out. I would love to be able to have you around the block so I could feed you foam and I could just paint the hell outta everything. I've been wanting to make some cheap quick terrain for use at my friend's place, and I think investing in one of those hot wire foam cutter tablethingies looks like an excellent place to start.

And your models look good too! That's a good setup for an Ariadna force for sure.

I'm gonna DL Printscape when I get a chance, but I am not the best at that sort of thing, but I'll give it a shot and see what happens.

Also going to see if I can get my buddies to chip in for the foamcutter.

bbb's blog: currently hobby hodgepodge @ 2014/04/23 17:56:45

Post by: bbb

Thanks!

Working with the foamcutter can be a bit fiddly at times. Slow and steady is the key. If you take a look at the first building I did in my first post it looks really wobbly and uneven because I was working on testing out my idea. After I made my Duplo fence everything is much more smooth, but the slightest wobble when cutting will show up, so be careful. The other thing that can get annoying is you have to keep checking to make sure your wire is perpendicular. If I get the time (not likely) I have some modifications I'd like to make to the machine or build my own, but for $100 I cannot complain about it.

Since you're in Baltimore and this stuff is light I could send you a few things if you wanted to cover shipping. I'm looking to get some feedback from people who are actually playing infinity. Send me a PM if you're interested.

ARISE! ARISE!

Well, it's been a year since I updated this and I've been SLOWLY tinkering with things. Here's some buildings and cardstock containers I was working on for Infinity. Nothing's finished yet, but maybe I'll get there sometime.

Here's a bunker I'm working on. It's being made with scraps of foam I had lying around so I'll build up the rocky texture around the blocky center part.

I've also been working on Khador for Warmachine. Originally I was planning on going to my FLGS to play regularly, but got involved with a church event that was on the same nights, but that wraps up in 2-3 weeks so hopefully I'll get back there and FINALLY get back to playing something.

Here's the current state of my workbench.

I have three other trolls in various stages that I've dug up and that I'm going to try to get to somewhat match the one I just completed. I feel a little intimidated by that, but if I just get started and focus on fishing instead of having perfect paint jobs then I should be okay.

Other than those guys I really want to finish up the Tzeentch champion on disc, but we'll see what my magpie nature does...

Post by: bbb

Been working on some trolls that I've had in various states of progress over the years. The goal is to get them to match the one I recently finished.

The base coats have been finished and next I'll wash them and highlight.

At the start of the process after having just painted their bellies and ears.

Finished basecoat.

bbb's blog: currently hobby hodgepodge @ 2017/04/06 10:59:47

Post by: bbb

Been plugging away on a few things.

Trolls got an Agrax Earthshade wash and have since had most of the highlights done, but here's at least a shot of them after the wash.

Got the terrain bug again so I've been working on some hills.

After seeing this amazing thread on Terragenesis I wanted to give some ruin styled terrain a shot.

Finally have a cool supply drop to show. Picked up some Oldhammer Chaos Warriors in a trade recently and will hopefully paint some up soon.

I really gotta get back to the trolls since they're almost done, but I've had a terrain itch that's needed scratching. Finished up that ruin/hill combo piece from the previous post.

Working on some more terrain.

Locally Guild Ball has really taken off, so I started into that.

I'm trying something different with these minis and priming black. Usually I prime with white, brown or a colored primer, but since it's been YEARS since I tried to paint on a black undercoat I figured I'd give it a shot. So far they are basecoated and I'm not going to try to do much beyond some simple highlights so I can just have a finished team.

That modular terrain idea is actually really cool! How does it all hold together? My only concern would be that it would all fall apart at the slight miscalculated nudge.

Finished up that last previous ruin, so here's a shot of some of those items together.

Also wrapped up all of the trolls I was working on.

And an old Heartbreaker Undead Lord that I got from ZN Games back in the day.

I decided to work on some old lead and started on this classic piece from the Realms of Chaos: SLAMBO!!!! Just base coated so far, but shouldn't take too long to wrap up.

We're working on selling our house, so hopefully that can go smoothly and I can end up with a better hobby space. We shall see!

Been pretty busy, but we got the house on the market finally. No bites yet so we will just have to keep playing the waiting game.

Meanwhile at work things have been slow, so I've had a chance to go through some tutorials in Solidworks and decided that a shipping container would be a good exercise. My only previous experience with 3d modeling is SketchUp, so it's taken some work to get used to they way Solidworks functions, but I think I'm getting the hang of it. SketchUp seems like it will still be handy for mocking up quick plans to see how certain shapes relate to each other.

I made a small one that is 1.5" wide, 1.75" tall and 2.0" deep.

Then I made a longer one that was 4.0" long.

They're designed to be stackable.

I mocked up some proxy pieces on my paper cutter to get an idea how they would relate to minis. They might be on the small side for current generation of 40K minis, but they should be fine for Infinity and might work for 15mm games as well.

Made more progress on Slambo and was about to finish it when I realized I'd botched the clear coat. I used a brush on gloss and ended up with lots of bubles on the underside of edges and in corners. You can't really see it in the pictures but it was really annoying me. I worked on appying more gloss and that was working a little, but then one of my kids accidentally knocked him on the floor and chipped some of the edges. I might just strip it and start over.

Pictures before it got chipped.

So I decided to just start something new instead of thinking about it too much for now. Got a base coat on Morlock Soul Reaper at least. Shouldn't take too much effort to finish. Going for the same base colors as Slambo just in different locations. I might paint them all up this way.

Wrapped up Morlock Soul Reaper.

Efforts to salvage Slambo's varnish failed. For now I won't strip him since he looks okay at tabletop level, but I'm extremely annoyed by how bad it looks close up.

Thanks! I wanted something bright and to an extent silly as a reminder of styles I'd seen in some classic Chaos paint schemes.

When working with pen and foam, make sure you always use black ink. I used blue for some of my earlier stuff and the ink bled though eventually even though I'd base coated it black.

AND wrapped up a Dark Elf Sorceress I've had semi-complete for about a decade.

I also had an unexpected guest at my painting table. At first I let it be, but my daughter came down and got freaked out and wanted me to kill it. So I captured it in a cup and released it outside. When I was putting a spray varnish coat on some of these minis I realized that there were cobwebs on them and then had to rush to clean them off before all of the varnish dried. Quite frustrating.

Thanks! That's the goal.

For these guys I used the same four base colors and rotated them for different parts (armor, horns, cloth, hair, etc), so now I need to figure out what I'm going to do for the other 9 or so I have. I don't want to just keep rotating the same colors, so I'm thinking I'll try another four. I want to keep them bright and wacky.

Selling a house, living with your mother-in-law for a month, buying a house, all while traveling for work can take it's toll on hobby time.

BUT I'M BACK!!!!

I actually got back to my FLGS last night and got a game of Guildball in. Lost, but I forgot most of the rules, so I considered it a good learning exercise.

Shadespire seems like it might be a good fit for my limited hobby time and if it takes off hopefully I can get some games in while on the road. Well payed, Games Workshop. You got me to purchase and assemble Stormcast Eternals...

Was toying around with making some boards for Shadespire out of foam, but I don't really like my first prototype.

I'll come back to the idea after working on the minis some more. Thanks to Stranger Things 2 I've been able to keep my butt in front of my painting station and have finished the basecoats for the Stormcasts. Hope to wrap the the highlights in about another week, but no pictures of that yet.

Thanks, Josh. While I hate what they represent (GW blowing up the Old World) I'm really enjoying painting them. That being said, I think a whole army of them would be very boring to paint.

Since the weather is very fall-like now I needed a solution to get some more Shadespire priming done and I was fortunate that our facilities guy didn't have a problem with me using our shop's paint booth. A bit overkill for a sprue of minis, but it works!

I also had an idea for making some Infinity buildings out of layers of cardstock, so I put together a test. Not sure if I'll run with it, or if I just needed to get it out of my system. The roof definitely still needs work.

Post by: bbb

Still plugging away at things.

The prime coat on the Shadespire figs turned out to be horrible for some reason. I chose to just soldier on and paint them since I really don't care about these guys too much.

I got to play a game of Shadespire. It was fun, but we were both still learning the rules and had Stormcast warbands.

Since I found cutting out the hexs to be really tedious I opted to try and make some punches in Solidworks and had them 3d printed at the library. They're working out okay so far, but I still have to tweak things.

A buddy of mine dropped off a ton of Dungeon Saga stuff and said I could have it...so that might keep me busy this year.

For some reason I wanted to give some quick sloppy paint styles a shot so I worked on some old goblins and a bowman. I had fun painting them and getting quick results so hopefully I can just get some things wrapped up by focusing on quantity rather than quality. The trick is: prime brown.

Has not been a very productive year so far, but after working on finishing my basement and coming back from three weeks on the road for work I decided to continue dabbling with 3d printing. I got a free low-end printer from a guy at work and was toying around with Solidworks again. Printed out a few things, but the print quality really leaves a lot to be desired. I'd love to get a better printer, but till I can afford close to $1,000 for what I'd like I'll just keep toying around with what I have.

Thanks. I love modular / practical terrain. I also love crazy details, but for the purpose of playing a game I don't want the terrain to be a hindrance. My table is rough enough that it helps keep them in place, but if you are careless they could end up all over the place.

Thanks! The Swordmaster is an old metal one. The Chaos sorcerer is a newer plastic model that's probably a few years old at this point.

So I had some issues with spray primer and varnish that really disheartened me a few months ago. Add to that a heavy travel schedule at the end of last year and Christmas and trying to sell a bunch of my childhood toys on ebay and it all adds up to not much time/energy for hobby.

I was working on a few more Swordmasters and an Aekold Helbrass at least.

Just put together a quick piece of terrain with a scrap piece of foam that now needs some paint.

I also picked up two copies of the Maelstrom's Edge boxed set. Looks like a cool game, but I'm not sure I'll be able to find any players.

Finished off the pillar a few weeks back and made a hill to accompany it. Because the scrap I started with had some funny holes in it I decided to have them ooze pink stuff. No particular reason why.

Here's some work in progress shots. I just wanted to finish them quickly so I used two colors and mixed them as I went for highlights.

Nothing like a pandemic to make you dust off a hobby blog you haven't touched in almost a year. Actually been working on some stuff after a few setbacks with priming and varnishing sapped most of my will to hobby for almost a full year.

Working on some stuff, but will I ever play? Who knows!?

Marvel Crisis Protocol

Lord of the Rings

Oldhammer Orks

Well I've actually managed to completely finish some models recently. Painted, varnished, flocked. All done. They're not the best paint jobs, but they pass the 3ft rule and I'm finding that if I stick to that standard I can actually get stuff done.

Now I need to work on actually playing something, but still, I've at least accomplished something this year!

Great work on those old orks and Swordmasters of Hoeth. You've done those old models proud. The pink/purple on the Swordmasters certainly gives them a lot of unique character.

bbb's blog: currently hobby hodgepodge @ 2020/06/16 11:06:20

Post by: bbb

Thanks! Went for a super easy paint job on the orks using Contrast paint and the results were better than I expected. Sometimes I think I should go back and put a little more effort into their faces, but now that I'm 40 I'm trying to actually get some things "finished" instead of "perfect" so I can have a better chance of using them.

I wanted to make the Swordmasters pop with bright colors more than I normally use. I feel like it worked out.

Well... it's been over a year. I guess I should post more frequently, but life gets busy. Since last posting in the hobby blog I went to England Christmas week and wasn't sure if I'd be able to get home, changed jobs so I dont have to travel as much, then went to Germany for 2 weeks for the new job. Fun times. Picked up an Ender so I'm toying with 3d printing and also got a halfway decent gaming laptop so I can work on toying around with 3d modeling. Hopefully I can do some more hobby stuff to relax, but since the new job offers tuition reimbursement I decided to start a masters degree.

The pile of shame has only continued to grow with a lot of MCP and GW board games I've picked up in the meantime.

Here are some MCP models I finished. Nothing groundbreaking, but finished is finished.

inmygravenimage wrote:Hey, loving your big bright colours, particularly Thanos. I like your bases too (great idea for Vision, stealing that )

Thanks! The colors on Thanos are inspired by his first action figure they made back in the early 90s. For the bases, I try to base every miniature I paint the same. One less thing I have to figure out. For MCP it's nice because every other MCP mini is in a city, so it makes mine stand out a little. Sometimes I need to get creative (like Vision), but there will be some other that I really don't know what I could do to strip out the city elements (Beast is one of the ones I may not have an option with).

Working 2nd shift and taking a Masters class leads to not much hobby time. Just wrapped up the class so I wanted to put paint on something. Quick sloppy job with primarily Contrast, but overall felt good to do something. This was a Bones USA mini, so that means it was a type of Siocast plastic. It had some mold lines that were not pleasant to remove. Hopefully they develop a version of it that is easier to work with.

That's a nifty wizard. Did you apply it straight over the primer, or did you do some pre-highlighting/drybrushing?

bbb's blog: currently hobby hodgepodge @ 2022/05/18 01:41:03

Post by: bbb

Thanks!

Primed black then heavy drybrush with white. I usually either do that or put a zenithal coat of gray in between. I know Contrast was designed to go over a light basecoat, but I like to help push the "contrast" with the black or gray basecoat and a white drybrush. It also helps to make all the individual parts "pop" so they're easier to pick out. Plus if you're working quick and don't let the Contrast paint completely dry between colors, when it pools in the black recesses you can't really tell that the colors are mixing.

Like I said, it was a quick sloppy job and the above technique helps get it done faster with less fiddling about details.

Cool. Thanks for the mini-tutorial. My son has been accumulating his own collection of minis, but doesn't enjoy the painting stage as much as the gaming stage. Contrast and/or Speedpaints seem like they'd be a good way for him to get his own stuff done so I don't have to.

bbb's blog: currently hobby hodgepodge @ 2022/05/18 19:57:00

Post by: Wirecat

For a sloppy job it is a very nice result! It seems varying in intensity basecoat works with Contrast and Instant paint lines better than with inks. And mixing of not completely dry colors is as annoying as reactivation. :(

bbb's blog: currently hobby hodgepodge @ 2022/05/19 01:40:52

Post by: bbb

Thanks, Wirecat.

Here's another one I started today. Primed black then a grey zenithal then heavy white drybrush.

Will try to paint this one primarily with Contrast as well, but will use regular paints as needed to clean things up.

Thanks, Vejut! Yes, for myself, this level of output is great. I got a little discouraged after the blue elf lady, but I spent that time working on building a game table and rearranging my basement. I'll have to post some pictures of that.

Wirecat wrote:They may be messy at the close-up photo, but on the table they should be more than adequate. Bright and contrasting, good choice of colors!

EXACTLY! That's exactly the goal. I tend to be pretty critical of my stuff, so I get discouraged easily and then procrastinate. I'm 42 now and feel like I have not finished enough projects in my 25+ years in the hobby, so I'm trying to break myself of that habit. These will look just fine at armlength and on the tabletop.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
So I just went back through my pictures and realized that I had an extremely productive 6 weeks.

Basement project

My basement has been a mess for a while and that was partially due to me not being happy with the layout.

Pardon my crude layout sketch, but I figured that if I moved the TV section from the right side to the middle section I could make better use of the space.

Before (well, slightly in progress)

Moving the black Ikea bookcases from one wall to the next was an undertaking. I didn't really appreciate just how much stuff was on them. Here's a picture with the stuff from bookcases unloaded after most things were moved around.

In the process of moving things around I set up some rails to mount comics on the wall behind my couch. Really easy and inexpensive to do. They are just J-channel for drywall that have been spray painted black.

Now that I had a sufficient space for a proper sized game table I utilized a set of doors I removed from a closet project to be the base and then built around them. I wanted it to fit on top of the existing table I had in the event I wanted to use the "normal sized" table. I can take the top off and set it against the wall if I want. Still a work in progress, but I'll probably repaint the table and chairs at some point eventually. The table top weighs 70 lbs, so while it just sits on top of the small table, it dosn't budge and if you lean on it you don't have to worry about it flipping off.

PLUS! I actually got out of the house and managed to play two games. Mansions of Madness and Marvel Champions.

And on top of that I worked on an Eldar Warlock that I forgot to post.

So, in hindsight, I'm surprised I got as much done as I did. Way more productive than I usually am.

It was my first time playing. A few guys at my local shop had an open seat and my wife was having friends over to our house, so it was a good excuse to get out. I work 2nd shift, so I only really get to see my family on the weekends. That makes it hard for me to justify not spending time with them, but the stars aligned that night.

I don't think I'd enjoy the deck building aspect of the game, but I just told them to give me a deck and teach me the basics. We beat Sandman with a team of Venom, Ironheart, Scarlet Witch, and Nova (me).

Bloody hell, Nova's really difficult out of the box and a bit rubbish - REALLY hard for a beginner, so kudos! The other 3 are top tier.
We actually don't really deckbuild exhaustively, just tweak here and there unless the pre-build is insurable (Starlord, Hulk). There are enough great decks out of the box that that's enough.

Long time no update (per usual). Slowly working though some projects, so here's what's been going on.

Continuing to work though assembling some Maelstrom's Edge minis.

Painted some humans for Blitz Bowl in a quick, sloppy way. Hit a little bit of a wall on the dwarfs, but need to just keep plugging.

Picked up a used Photon for $50 that's sat in a corner for a year, so been working on cleaning it up to hopefully get some stuff printed before the end of this year.

Wanted a simple project to get back into 3d designing so I worked on some simple bases. Designed them to print upside down, so they don't need supports.

Lastly I had a chance to be a fly on the wall during the filming of a new, really fancy, video production. A local production company is filming a OPR battle report with Brent from Goobertown and Dave from MiniWarGaming. Really cool to see behind the scenes and meet some cool people.

I've been watching YouTube videos on using oil paints on minis for a few months and decided to give them a try. Picked up an inexpensive set from Michaels to start experimenting.

Started with a BSF mini I had lying around. Gave it an acrylic base coat then an oil wash with black paint thinned down using mineral spirits. After using a makeup sponge to dab away the excess I used oil paints to finish it. Turned out okay. The results weren't much different than if I used acrylics, but working with the oil paint was a very different experience.

Acrylic base coat on the left, oil paints applied on the right.

Afterwards I tried an old metal Eldar Dire Avenger. The results were okay, so I continued on to the rest of the unit I'm working on.

Acrylic base coat on the left, oil paints applied on the right.

It's been fun to try something new, but I'm not sure if I'm doing it completely right so far. The results are nice enough at least. Thinning the paint down is taking practice, as well as determining how long to let the oil wash dry before starting the painting. I have liked how forgiving the process has been and how well the paint thins with mineral spirits. With acrylics I feel like I have to constantly clean my brush off to keep paint from drying at the top as it wicks up, so I've liked not having to worry about that with oil paints.

Hobby hodgepodge continues with some rats and a Battle Masters archer. Quick and sloppy jobs, but they pass the 3ft rule.

bbb,

Painted models are painted models...and so superior to unpainted grey or primed white/black.

My two cents,

CB

Thanks, insanity and Captain Brown!

Nothing too fancy, but two wrapped up Reaper Bones minis.

Nice job on the big lady, unusual colour scheme.

Thanks, aku-chan. I think she's supposed to be a cloud giant? Note sure. My buddy dropped off some Reaper stuff he didn't want so I've been painting random things from the pile.

Next up for the hodgepodge:

Repainted and rebased Mageknight plastics. I found a pile of 100+ in a box so before selling I pulled a few out that I thought would look cool with new paint. Super basic paint jobs, but effective enough.

Love your pile of rats from last week!
How do you find working with the Bones material? I've only got a few painted Bones models and they all ended up feeling really tacky and looking glossy a few months after painting. I've been told its something to do with the primer I used. Have you had any similar issues?

Thanks, Scarper.

I've never had any issues painting Bones figures. Maybe I'm just lucky? I've heard similar stories. I used to use rattle cans to prime, but switched to an airbrush a few years ago. Both methods worked fine for me. Wish I had something more to offer than that. A few miniatures I have got ruined from bad varnish coats, so it always pains me to hear about a failed paint job :(

Arise, thread! ARISE!

I have been documenting my recent (over a year after i picked up the used printer shown above...) foray into 3d printing over in the 3d printing section, but I'm starting to put some paint on some of those prints, so figured I should document that progress here. Not much done so far, but this is the most I've painted in months, so hopefully I can keep going.

These were all free minis I found. It's pretty cool what's out there.

Experimenting with using oil paints again on one of the 3d printed minis.
