The Social Attitude Test @ 2013/08/24 16:00:20

Post by: d-usa

So here is a fancy link to another one of those fancy Political/Economical/Social Attitude tests:

http://slackhalla.org/~demise/test/socialattitude.php

My results:

Radicalism 85.75
Socialism 50
Tenderness 59.375

These scores indicate that you are a progressive; this is the political profile one might associate with an animal rights activist. It appears that you are skeptical towards religion, and have a pragmatic attitude towards humanity in general.

Your attitudes towards economics appear neither committedly capitalist nor socialist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as a political centrist.

To round out the picture you appear to be, political preference aside, an idealist with few strong opinions.

This concludes our analysis; we hope you found your results accurate, useful, and interesting.

Radicalism 47.25
Socialism 68.75
Tenderness 34.375

These scores indicate that you are a tough-minded moderate; this is the political profile one might associate with a jaded materialist. It appears that you are skeptical towards religion, and have a pragmatic attitude towards humanity in general.

Your attitudes towards economics appear socialist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as pro-government.

To round out the picture you appear to be, political preference aside, an idealist with few strong opinions.

This concludes our analysis; we hope you found your results accurate, useful, and interesting.

Feels a bit like me but we're not really there yet. Too much tenderness, not enough radicalism.

The test says that you are, thus it must obviously be the truth. The internet said so. =)

Oh and if we're going to be questioning the results. Apparently I'm a libertarian, despite answering a fair few of the questions with authoritarian responses (hey have all the rights you want, just don't use them to gak all over everyone else's business). I can agree with the liberalness, but I could hardly fit in at a leftist tea party (for one thing I dislike tea).

Apparently I'm an idealist, and an exponent of laissez-faire capitalism. My libertarian friends will be thrilled.

Anyway, that test was poorly constructed. Stacking questions* is always frowned upon.

I normally describe myself as a conservative libertarian in most cases. I'm a pretty conservative guy in my own morals, but I don't really care what other people do as long as they don't bother me too much.

That said politics is tricky because you have to separate your "ideal political system" from "the political system you actually want to see implemented taking into account all the imperfections of human nature".

Quite frankly I'd like nothing more than to be under a benevolent dictatorship as long as the leader guy knows what he's doing. I'm just smart enough to know that nobody is actually qualified for that job.

It wore the results to a given question on its wrist too. Ie asking whether you consider Jews and Muslims as acceptable citizens would obviously wind you up on the radical side if you disagreed (and on some sort of registry). I doubt that this test would be used for anything practical, but a person shouldn't be able to sit there and influence the results with ease.

Unlike many other political tests found on the Internet which base themselves on untested (and usually ideologically motivated) ideas, this inventory is adapted from Hans Eysenck's own political inventory which was developed after extensive empirical investigations in the 20th Century.

I think a number of the questions were too complicated to boil down to a 1-5 scale, and I had mixed feelings about a number of them. It did peg my religion well; I used to be an atheist, but now I am a devout Pastafarian.

Wow... Err, that is interesting. For one, I have never thought about myself as being optimistic of humanity or tender. To be honest, I rather dislike any sense of sentimental emotion in that it clouds true judgement and clarity. As for being optimistic of humanity - the worlds a harsh place, you either cut it or you don't, but you have to work hard to succeed and not expect others to provide for you. I would say that I am radical (at least compared to today's 'norm'), just not in the Bolshevik/Socialist sense, I lean more towards a sense of class and order (although perhaps not as strict as the pre-Edwardian era).

I'm not overconfident about this test...

Interesting poll.

I felt some of the questions were, uh, questionable, but I'm drunk and will likely take it again sober.

These scores indicate that you are a tender-minded moderate progressive; this is the political profile one might associate with an animal rights activist. It appears that you are moderate towards religion, and have a balanced attitude towards humanity in general.

Your attitudes towards economics appear neither committedly capitalist nor socialist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as a political centrist.

To round out the picture you appear to be, political preference aside, an egalitarian with few strong opinions.

As of Wolfmerc's post (sample size =50), here are our stats:

Radicalism (Dude)

Mean: 68.68
Median: 72
Standard Deviation: 20.5504
Range: 19.75->99.5

Socialism (Comrade)

Mean: 41.87
Median: 43.75
Standard Deviation: 22.98786503
Range: 0->100

Tenderness ( Bunny?)

Mean: 44.1875
Median: 43.75
Standard Deviation: 13.33335
Range: 9.375->71.875

So, Overall we appear to be fairly Radical, but not especially Socialist or Tender, and at this point we display such a range that all we can really say is that we are a diverse bunch. Also, I remember less of my statistics course than I thought.

Unlike many other political tests found on the Internet which base themselves on untested (and usually ideologically motivated) ideas, this inventory is adapted from Hans Eysenck's own political inventory which was developed after extensive empirical investigations in the 20th Century.

Though some questions don't take objective fact into account. For example the question about military spending. A person with the same values could answer differently depending on the country in which they live, because both relative and actual expenditure are different. The US spends a vast amount relative and absolute on their military, other countries spend peanuts.

Not surprised at the bolded parts. I don't have a problem with religion per se, my problem is more with organized religion in general. But, that's a topic for another thread for another day. Last time I took a political test I also rated as libertarian, and yet, strangely, I do believe in big centralized government. I just figure it would be cheaper and more efficient in the long run to have a big government to handle everything rather than split it up among 50 states who can't agree on anything and before you know, every state has different Stop signs and traffic light colors and driving on different sides of the street and dogs and cats living together, MASS HYSTERIA!

I believe you get hit with "eugenicist" if you answer the "people are born smart or stupid" question with Strongly Agree, as well as the "we should improve humanity" one. Those both looked like trojans to me, so I hedged on them.

I believe there was also a question that specifically asked if you endorse eugenics as well, which might be used to determine how you feel about eugenics.

Edit: Here it is...

Eugenics is tantamount to Nazism, and both ideologies are severely flawed.

Mwahahaha! Apparently I'm a libertarian

The test, with all the questions on genetics and eugenics, basically seemed to be an 'are you a nazi?' test. It's probably quite good at establishing if you hold Nazi or other fascist ideologies close to heart, but moving away from that I'm not sure it's all that great at describing the rest of us.

 Howard A Treesong wrote:
Though some questions don't take objective fact into account. For example the question about military spending. A person with the same values could answer differently depending on the country in which they live, because both relative and actual expenditure are different. The US spends a vast amount relative and absolute on their military, other countries spend peanuts.

Yeah, I thought that too. The same issue holds for a lot of other questions, such as the one on welfare spending. And that links in to the greater problem this and all kinds of similar tests have in asking the questions in a context free environment, and without the option to put in a detailed answer.

The best question that shows that is the one on banking and financiers causing our economic problems. Well, which economic problems - because they're the absolute core of the GFC, but they're not at the core of other meltdowns or recessions, and they're not at the core of more fundamental economic issues like scarcity, so what in the hell am I supposed to put.

Mind you, in hindsight I think that question was just part of the 'are money lenders (read Jews) responsible for the high unemployment in the Weimar Republic?'

Umm, seriously, we do discriminate on a species level. We don't think twice about stepping on microbes, but we try to avoid running over small animals in our cars where possible. And then with people we do a hell of a lot more to avoid driving over them.

This is, ummm, for really, really obvious reasons that I'm absolutely certain you already understand.

Hmmm. Libertarian? Ouch. Still, as Chekov said, "If shoe fits..."

As a side note, I'm actually very accepting of religion. I feel it's vitally important to our society. I just don't think that the proliferation of any one single religion is required.

Interesting question, though. One of the questions in this quiz is about inheritance, and I was surprised to see it. Are there really people out there that think you shouldn't be able to inherit wealth from your parents? Is that seriously a thing? I mean, I'm willing to discuss the merits or flaws of such an idea, but I was just completely taken aback. It's not an issue I've ever heard of, let alone thought about.

Libertarian in its 'basic' form is fiscally conservative and socially liberal.... It boils down to, don't spend money on useless gak and pointless bureaucracy, and keep the government out of the private affairs of citizens. They tend to be for low government spending (down to none if it could be accomplished) and are for the legalization of most things as it's not the government's right to tell its citizens what it can't do.

Sounds about right. I'm still not convinced that this is such a great test though; as others have noted answers to some questions may greatly be influenced by the conditions of one's country. This could've been avoided by better wording.

Also, I wonder how the left/right axis is calibrated. In many ways American left is basically European centre after all.

Like technically I'm a registered Republican, but over the past few years I've slowly been moving towards Libertarians as I realize that both political parties are bat gak crazy and while Libertarians can be just as crazy, their ideas align more with what I believe. Starting with your base point, and ticking everything in the middle I get the same result as you 50/50/50. That works as a good base point to start screwing around with the survey

For instance, picking out the three questions on religion, 3, 18 and 22, and picking the anti-religious answer moves the radical scale up to 55 (and somehow makes you less tender as well...). Picking the pro-religious answer moves the radical scale down to 45 (and somehow also makes you more tender...).

Similarly, taking a pro-choice stance on abortion stance makes you radical.

That's a weird thing, because radicalism, by its standard definition in politics, is about wanting to overhaul the social order in a significant way. Thinking that there is no God but other people are welcome to worship as they please (which it doesn't actually ask about), and being entirely alright with existing abortion laws is about as far from radicalism as you can get.

But reading about the guy who's work the study was based on, and thinking about the weird focus of the questions (multiple questions on racism and eugenics) and nothing on more modern social issues like homosexuality, and I think I get what's going on. Hans Eysenck created his political theories in the 1950s - pro-choice was a radical idea in the 1950s. And opposition to the church was far more radical, as it held a much greater sway on our lives then.

So, basically the test is asking 'are you a radical by the social and political conventions of the 1950s'?

Big thread to read but did anyone get a really high tenderness score?

Some of the questions were clearly "weighed" very much for or against that category.
I didnt see much middle ground in it.

Political Values

Radicalism 39
Socialism 37.5
Tenderness 31.25

These scores indicate that you are a tough-minded moderate conservative; this is the political profile one might associate with a drill sergeant. It appears that you are moderate towards religion, and have a balanced attitude towards humanity in general.

Your attitudes towards economics appear capitalist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as a political centrist.

To round out the picture you appear to be, political preference aside, an egalitarian with primarily strong opinions.

Radicalism KILL
Socialism MAIM
Tenderness BURN

These scores indicate that you are a murderous lunatic; this is the political profile one might associate with a Khornate Berzerker. It appears that you are skeptical towards Chaos Undivided, and care not from whence the blood flows.

Your attitudes towards tactics appears to strongly favor the gory violence of melee massacres over cowardly ranged combat, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as devotedly collecting skulls for the Skull Throne.

To round out the picture you appear to be, Warp Deity preference aside, constantly enraged for no specific reason.

This concludes our analysis; we hope you found your results accurate, useful, and interesting.

Radicalism 94
Socialism 93.75
Tenderness 46.875

These scores indicate that you are a progressive; this is the political profile one might associate with a university professor. It appears that you are skeptical towards religion, and have a pragmatic attitude towards humanity in general.

Your attitudes towards economics appear communist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as left-wing.

To round out the picture you appear to be, political preference aside, an idealist with several strong opinions.

--------------------

I disagree with the economic policy = Communist part. I am however a social democrat, without a doubt.

The rest is pretty spot on.

Fun test.

.... did anyone else get communist economically ? I cruised through the thread but didn't spot one.
