The Chapter Master looks freakin' cool and your yellow looks great. I'm always amazed when someone decided to paint Imperial Fists, so much freakin' yellow!

Got Just about everything from the kitchen, except the kitchen sink.

Well after getting completely sidetracked by work, i managed to snag a small office space to squirrel away my hobby.

it has enough space for two 4x6 tables and a work area.
will probably chuck a couch and mini fridge and make it my own hobby oasis

I have more folding tables else wear for the other side, but i might get my woodworking on and make two nice one later if time permits.

i can make a hydra and basilisk out of it but no clue how i should make a wyvern. thinking something like a TFC

Very nice stuff! Loving the support tanks, that's some reall nice plasticard work. I worry that the AA gun won't be able to rotate thus loosing its ability to aim anywhere but forward,,,

i dont have a new hydra/wyvern kit but are they turret mounted?
That might be an issue though without interceptor i dont think it will matter as much.

Finally found a formula for yellow i like so im gonna be redoing my entire imperial fist army again. while i assembly line the 200 imperial guards behind him.

The Inquisitor Girl is very nice! Like her very much!

The turret is very similar to the quad-AA mount in the back of a WWII American half-track if that's any help...then again, you could probably find a picture of the Wyvern turret via Google.

It's a half-open turret, the gunner is standing up behind the front shield, and the weapons are mounted on top of each other on either side and can move independently.

Not sure if that helps but I can take pictures of my Wyvern if you want.

Lysanders about 99% done, gota just clean up some minor chips and do the decal on the shoulder (but forgot to take pictures today :/ )

Also just got a tempestas firebase but cant seem to find that formation which kinda bumbs me out. though i could always double cad in more formations

FLGS is starting a mordhime campaign so i picked orcs (they banned skaven ) problem being i have no clue how to name them so i needa get a boss name and a crew name. something mercenaryee.

And tis the season for resolutions so i guess il list of things to do for my own sake.

Well thanks. The knot chipped out on the side. so i burned it in an attempt to make it look interesting.

Now i need to figure out how to stain and seal it to show off the recesses a bit better.

Was thinking of airbrushing inks or washes then sealing the whole thing in polyurethane sateen.

More work done. did the snow and shaded stuff. the ink stain worked out so thats good


Also figured out why my picture size kept dropping off. didnt realize google photos downsized so now i need to upload to drive from my phone camera

Its inspired by Recalcitrant dazes blog. i think i first saw it on bolterchainsword but not sure. I certainly take no credit for the technique.

Oh also the reason for the black on the base mold is that im using the spray paint as a mold release. my first casts actually took some chunks off the mold. but after using the spray paint i have no issues.

Oi. finished some stuff over the weekend and took some pics of how i did my bases. because i forgot how i did it last time :/

first the brown on the metal, then a wash of watered down fiery orange, then shaved some of the graphite pencil and rubbed it down with my fingers. makes it look nice.

i think i need better trees doesn't look tropic enough.

Next step is trying it wtih slush casting so i dont need to use 10 oz of resin for that last large one i made.

Very cool looking! Silicone has its uses, but with skill and dedication simpler stuff will do - results are very nice indeed. In my view greenery is OK, but the contrast between trees and rock is not large enough. Maybe spray or brush some more acidic green on top, if this would not ruin the already impressive scenery?

Yeah i could just airbrush a layer of nice green on the top of it with no issues.

right now im contemplating remaking the island. as im not as happy with the steam pipes on the side of the volcano.

also its not really fully painted in that i need to rust up all the turrets and metal.

anyway i can do that anytime and its a functional terrain piece for now. more islands to come.

i had an idea after seeing table wars display transport case and decided to use my skills from highschool wood shop and some garbage power tools to make this.

the trays are bent steel flashing from home depot and is designed to slide onto those aluminum rails to prevent them from coming out.

just need to magnatize all my models bases

I wont be phasing them out but i am restarting my entire collection (they are all like 50 different shades of yellow)

The plan is to readjust all the legs from the normal marines so that they are not squatting. the ones i dont have to are the dev squads as that makes sense and any jump marines.

my lights are drowning out all my subtle work :/

i guess it will be more noticeable once i get into highlights.

(also too lazy to go get my light box)

and to be fair not much better set up than you, atm.

All i'm using is my airbrush extractor box with a sheet of white plasticard behind it with a desk lamp with a day light bulb in it as back as I can get it, then I white balance the images in GIMP.

Got some more highlights to do then spot washing then oil washing. must be getting old. i dont remember this taking so long

Have you considered a different coloured background?
Blue might make the highlights stick out more.

Well i do have a daylight bulb some where i just need to swap out this florescent one.

and im sure i could fine a piece of blue some where.

i will give blue a shot.

Its Vallejo gold yellow from the Game color line over white. then i over highlight with VMC Ice yellow
then go over that with VGA Moon yellow then spot highlight with ice yellow again.

i got the decals on them yesterday and got another layer of clear coat (this picture was just before that. noticed i forgot to take a bunch of photos :() . going to oil wash these when i get home.

i feel like i should of kept my build in the order i did my first set. seems like its going to be hard to touch up and do secondary colors after the oil wash.

got to say these new bases are bitchin. they even come with a 3mm magnet slot. gw really knocking it out of the park lately.

I've never had my decals do that, at least not unless I've been prodding them around for a good 10 minutes with micro sol/set then again I always have to cut them to get them to fit around marine shoulder pads. When they do break up I just cover it over with weathering and damage ... yea I'm lazy.

i need to sit down and do it.

the decals are just old. i had to get rid of a bunch that went and yellowed.

I approve of the thread name. Also, I like your primaris work. Have you considered using a wash on the chest aquilla to give the recesses a bit more definition?

they are actually washed the problem is that the red is also kinda dark (hull red to burnt red only) probably should get the next color of red

also wash them in black instead of brown.

All Airbrush with base of VMA Aluminum.
Tamiya Clear Green from the top
Tamiya Clear Blue and Green mixed at 90degrees

then blue from the bottom.

As of right now i got a plan to use a trippy super dangerously toxic paint from taiwan that is the perfect color shifting colors for alpha legion. i cant wait to give it a shot.

i finally settled on a goal. make a 2k army of fully painted primarus only space marines so i can dick around and play while working on a new project. rather than burning out of trying to paint a whole army full of vehicles.

got me a new wet pallet a new brush and a new work light. no pictures atm but i really jammed out yesterday. got all the black joint piping and belts painted. next up is metals.

Damn, I'm jealous; I've a stack of marines sprayed up yellow just waiting to have the black trimming put on, I find it the most tedious and nerve wracking part as the slightest slip means a streak of black that always leaves a mark no matter how quick i am to wash it off with a clean wet brush.

Crikey! That's a whole lot o' marines! I'm liking the pale tones, it's a nice change from the more usual warm yellows for the Fists.

Yeah its in between the 40k orange yellow and the 30k lemon yellow.

also disaster struck. i forgot to take pictures but i accidentally did an oil wash with lacquer thinner for my apothecary partially ruined the finish but i think i can fix it. :(

I always go for odourless turpentine from a modeling brand. So far I found that best to make washes with, and easier to handle thanks to the (almost) lack of odour.

I've just set up a pair of Ikea Detolfs to display my minitures, and the only problem i'm finding is that I really need to paint faster to fill up all the empty space. So what do you need magnets for?

The magnets are on the bases of my miniature

so i can stick them on the shelves

the shelves can come out so i can transfer them into my hand made carrying case

i have a different prototype in my photos somewhere. but it can hold quite a lot of models with no fuss.

i just dont like foam because 1) its a pain the take em out and in 2) you cant really display them which is a shame with how much work we put into them.

I like the magnet idea- never thought to use it with the miniatures on shelves, but it makes for really easily handling. I do something similar so that I can use metal cookie (biscuit) tins to transport units.

Yeah kinda stole the idea from table wars.

except theirs is EXTREMELY expensive, bulky and doesn't hold that much surprisingly because of the standoffs, as well its surprisingly heavy. at least the full one that i got.

shame they didn't design the size to fit in a standard cabinet. i feel like they did have that idea as they sell the railings in there system individually.

Zenith highlight with Vallejo model color ice yellow

go over the whole thing with Valljeo game air moon yellow

then spot highlight with ice yellow again

then oil wash burnt umber with a tinge of black.

highlight with ivory if you want.

next a more ambitious project. a 3x3 malifaux and soon to be fallout table.

starting with some jointery

these are PVC Base boards from the home depot. making the base foundation for the top. pretty light and rigid stuff.

followed by it being done.


mostly square. i actually have the top and some foam work done, will update once i get home

currently stuck on it as i cant find my tin snips to make this a magnetic table.

Oh also while i had the PVC Cement out i finished up a foolishly large carrying case its 20x15x10 inchs.

Here we go just need some sheet metal snips to skin it in steel. That way I can magnatize terrain into it

Large pictures are too large. I literally can't even see what I'm writing right now. I just hope it's as legible as I think it is. The start looks good. My only warning is not to make it so big it will never get out any of your doorways .

How did you get that texture? I always get little frays sticking out all over the place with foam.

Take a heavy wire brush like a steel welding brush

then after you sculpt it you sand it down with sand paper.

though the picture doesnt show it it is still a bit fuzzy,

the plan is to cover the flat areas with sheet steel and then on top of that a good layer of liquid nails as it dries like rubber

though i will embed dirt texture into it as it dries.


Its a cool way to get textures though. you could get a cool looking mesa look by first making horizontal cut outs with a knife to get small ledges, and a few vertical ones showing erosion, then take a wire brush and basicly smooth out the whole thing making it look like an ancient wall. sand it and then fill it with a good protective coat of whatever you want to get rid of the fuzz.

I think the triangle pattern to the stole is terrific! You've got a very fine hand with the brushes.

Looking forward to seeing how the table comes out too. I like the idea of the stiff steel wire brush and then sand paper; I use a hot wire foam cutter, which can actually leave too smooth a surface. Hadn't thought about using liquid nails as a texturing agent before either- I'm filing the serial numbers off that idea and using it!

Mud is done. sucks though as i didnt have the grit sized dirt i like

I saw these conversions and i just had to do them for my Necromunda gang. Underhive mutated scavengers, counts as Cawdor

all Credit goes to Ynneadwraith for the gangers and KrautScientist for the juvies

still got a ton of gribbles to add. but now i need to figure out what they will be called.

Also not 100% on the full Kroot gun. they are nice bits but too....kroot already with the heads.

Edit: random thoughs, lore wise they are mutating porcupine people that cuts off bits of any useless mutated flesh with scavenged robo parts. so im gona need a doctor butcher.

Probably not surprising but these are about as far up my street as it's possible to get! They're so damn cool

The added level of mutations really makes them your own, and each of them is packed with character I'm having difficulty picking a favourite The little diminutive gnoblar mutants are wonderful too great level of thought with making a butcher/surgeon character to sort all of their bionics. Mark of good world-building that

I had difficulty too with making the Kroot guns less Krooty. I did find that chopping off the blades definitely helped (front blade has more of an effect than the rear blade if you still want one on there). I've seen barrel-swaps too, where people chop of the muzzle and replace it with one from a SM Scout sniper rifle. That works well too

Oh, and the horns on your verminlord are mint excited to see paint on these guys if that's the standard

I always marvel at conversions like this. Your imagination to conceptualize mixed with the modeling skill to realize the results are both apparent in everything you do. The attention to detail is the difference between a "head swap" project and genuine converting madness brilliance. Having a deep bitz bin and knowing what is available (manufacturers / kits / etc) is also important. But without the skill and vision to create the model it's just so many pieces of plastic glued together.

You excel at your craft and I'm looking forward to seeing whatever you do next.

Well i have a deep bitz bin. its kinda ridiculous but the entire inspiration for this was from ynneadwraith and a bit of kraut

I saw your nod to ynneadwraith so checked that work out and subbed. I haven't visited Kraut's threads again yet but I remember him as an amazing modeler. I'll have to catch up with that soon.

Not ridiculous in the slightest I can't count the number of ideas I've half-inched so far for instance I've been thinking of making some sort of Crow-chief for a while and your idea of using the Princeps head is perfect

Oh, and another thing that came to mind with de-Krooting the rifles. If you chop out some of the length from the barrel, de-blade and cut off the rear of the stock they look pretty great as shotguns

Bleh started painting but forgot some areas to green stuff so its all on hold till it cures by later today

now the question is paint scheme.

im only working on grenade guy ( need a name) and doc butch.

bunch of scavangers would probably not be running around in royal purple or stuff like that so i want to assume best colors would be red(which is out because i dont want them looking like ad mech) greens browns and or grey/black.
but i kinda dont want to as thats pretty much what ynnead did.

im thinking primary cloth colors are going to be blacks/greys/browns and blues. spot colors im thinking. yellow hazard strips and maybe some checkards.
probably going to do white with bftbg on doc but what you guys think i should do.

Blacks with yellow hazard striping would be pretty kickass nice and industrial which would differentiate them nicely.

Either that or maybe browns and rusted metals? Can use red as a spot-colour and it shouldn't look Ad-Mechy

I think as a spot color would be fine.

i mean they are basiclly taking various admech type equipment which would probably have a red oxide primer paint on it.

maybe i will mix a bit of both and make em all blanchy.

Oh also didnt realize there was no clothing detail on docs left underarm so i guess im doing more sculpting today too :(

I'd say go for it on the chequer border to the hood. A smidge of freehand really elevates a paint job to the next level I've found plus, chequers is so very Blanchitsu

Really nice job on the scavengers. The checkered hood is excellent. I like the color choices as well. What color is that slate blue?

That purple legit hurts my eyes and i love it.

though now im having a hard time figuring out the rest of the colors needed. im liking the boltgun metal trim so that will probably stay. the weapon and leather colors is where im stuck at. a friend pointed out that since the blurple is too dark black is going to blend into it too much.

im thinking a greenish grey like one of those skaven colors or thornwood green for the leather. but now i cant decide what to do with the weapon/equipments.

i think im pretty set on burning yellow eyes though for the lenses.

Any ideas guys? its slannesh marked pirate army.

Totally agree w/ the CMS color scheme, it's excellent. Reminds me of Night Lords a bit.

i forgot to take pictures of day one and two.
69 skaven in 6 days to basic table top standard... what am i thinking.
Day one: mold lines and prime
Day two: Midland Flesh and Flesh wash
Day Three: Hair and tails

Day Four: Bleh burned out. painted all the weapons and spears. i forget how much harder it gets the more you finish.
Will take a break for some other side projects and continue next week

Back again with bolt action all of a sudden

Been going a bit nuts with kill teams and necromunda so i made a table out of PVC And steel




Got the top painted and now i got a concrete slab. next up time to paint in the scribed lines and paint up some hazard strips to break it up

And lined. got lazy and did it with a pen instead of a brush.

added some caution lines as well as a way to cover up some bad engravings. not sure how dense and how many floor markings and blemishes (oil dirt or other stains) to do.
