The Aslinde jumped out of hyperspace. Quikly the sensors poked back out the hull and systems jumped back on. Inside Trix and Nexus were shocked. "How did it know our desired location." Trix asked. "I have no idea, but if it could breach our defences that fast...I'm not suprised." Trix took a mental note, to report this to the navy. Security-programs should get a lot better. Trix hooked herself back up with the Aslinde's interface, immediately her vision went red, the comm system was overflooded with voices, the sensors picked up high fields of radiation and debree. Trix quickly linked up with the battle net. "This is commander Zedong and Reynolds, we've just entered the system, please advise." She quickly recieved a data-feed showing what happened and what had to be done. "Nexus take defensive positions between the "Broadsword and the origination of those missiles." Nexus nodded as he set course. Trix was happy that even the abundance of missiles hadn't penetrated to her planet, and she even had incredible news for everyone. She opened a link with the Admiral. "What is it?" the Admiral asked. "I've got something you would want to see." she quickly transferred a video-log of what happened in the time she was gone. Then she disconnected and focused back at the situation at hand. This battle wasn't over yet.

Quick Question, how did you jump into the system, when the dreadnoughts have a hyperspace inhibitor active?

Lieutenant Johnson instinctively reached for the laser pistol holstered at his side when the main Engineering doors slid open. He was relieved to see Alliance officers stride through the door and he relaxed somewhat.
"You in charge here?" The lead man asked him hurriedly.
"Yes sir, Junior-Lieutenant Johnson, Engineering, at your service," Johnson replied.
"Status?"
"On a scale of pancakes to 'holy crap', take a wild guess."
"I'll assume it's somewhere between daisy's and localised apocalypse."
"Sounds 'bout right."
"Back to business; the escaped prisoners are being contained and multiple teams are moving to support yours."
"The ship seems to be in good hands," Johnson grinned prematurely as the entire ship shook and everyone was thrown to the floor as titanic energies were released from the Fusion Core.
"You spoke to soon!" The man shouted over the rising sound of the core.
"No sh*t!"
Johnson stumbled to his feet and managed to reach the core controls. After several seconds of frantic tapping on the touch screen, the AI repeated a warning before the entire Fusion Core was jettisoned into space, to be dealt with by the other vessels.
"F*ck me, that was close!" Johnson exclaimed, knowing that if they had allowed the core to reach overload, then the entire vessel would have been instantly destroyed. Hell, the surrounding ships would certainly have been damaged as well, perhaps even destroyed.

With that, emergency repairs continued - everyone helped out; Marines included. They had to secure the ship and fast - it wouldn't last much longer in its current state. Fortunately, the sheer amount of internal and external work went a long way in helping to stabilize it.

Ship: Void Phoenix
Status: Assisting the Pioneer, Shields Up
Hull: 10
Shields: 10

The ship slowed as it approached the crippled battleship, the pride of the alliance navy looking like no more than a piece of space junk.
“Launch Boarding Craft,” Garan ordered, “Go save that ship.”
The hanger doors opened, and the launch craft flared their engines as they left the carrier.
“KIRK,” Garan said, “What is the maximum range on the repair Nano-ships?”
“400 miles,” The AI replied, “They could easily reach the Pioneer if that is what you are suggesting.”
“Good,” Garan said, “Launch the repair ships.”
The repair ports on the side of the carrier opened, and a swarm of over 200 Nano-ships burst out. These ships, each little over 50cm square, had the power to restore structural integrity to a ships crippled hull. They are fitted with an array of different tools, and are controlled by the ships AI system.
The repair ships swarmed over the hull of the Pioneer, closing hull breaches, and reinforcing welds. Desperately trying to stop the ship from collapsing.

Not exactly "nano" technology but I'm not complaining.

Fleet Command: Crystal Angels  @ 2011/07/01 19:25:17

Post by: RaptorsTalon

Nano compared to normal sized space craft.

Also, the way they repair the hulls is by releasing true nano bots (Extreamley Tiny), which then self replicate, and seal hull breaches.

(I love inventing Sci-Fi technology!)

209 years actualy. (Remember the fleet has just turned 100, so 100 years after the dates in the OP.)

With a few breakthroughs in the science world, Nano tech is perfectly possible. Anyway, this is sci-fi, and we have already ignored real world science by having faster than light travle.

"yes sir." issac leaned deeper in his chair.what a mess. and it happened to be their shiny new battleship that was now nothing but space junk.
"next time i see her,ill thump her over the head and then congratulate her. that crazy freak." as issac looked around the bridge,he was glad it wasent him who had been a shield. his ship would be dust if he had. smiling,he thought about how fun it would be to shoot those missiles at someone himself."to bad there illegal."
"what was that sir?" looking at the young woman, issac smiled and laughed.
"oh nothing, just thinking about how the navy dosent have doomsday weapons. a pity that they get used against the greater good."
"err...ok sir" confused, the women returns to her monitor. smiling even more, issac looks forward at the view of the mangled metal that was the pioneer.

"Broadsword, This repair Frigate Bravo, we have confirmed Reactor jettison at this time, at its current speed it'll be at minimum safe distance in twelve seconds, Over."

"Roger that Bravo, now get that ship to internal docking cradle seventeen, marines and repair teams are standing by."

"This is Alpha, we've managed to patch up the more serious hull breaches and everything seems stable, activating emergency thrust, Broadsword can you guide us in?"

with comically oversized engines flaring, the two frigates attached to the wounded battleship's hull started to maneuver the larger ship towards the Orbital shipyard in quick, controlled bursts, using their maneuvering thrusters to line it up properly, then with a clang that echoed through the station, the docking clamps seized The Pioneer in their tight grip.

"This is Broadsword, we've got her, scanning. Holy mother-, Yeah, She's going to be out of action for a while, extensive damage to the superstructure, Recommend the crew evacuate immediately to the holding area in case she fails completely."

As if to underline his point, the jettisoned reactor took that moment to explode in a rather dramatic fashion, bathing the Alliance ships in light for a second before it vanished like it had never been.

"And we're going to need to get her another one of those." Broadsword finished lamely.

"Dammit!' Steel Czar suddenly shouted, "My Inhibitor just shut down! Run a diagnostic, now!
"Raiden here, same here, I'm reading fluctuations in the field, we have inbound contacts."
"this is Tombstone, mine too. What the hell is going on?"

Seizing this opportunity, a frigate suddenly appeared within the debris ring of the planet, and rocketed upwards and away from it, energy flaring across its flanks as it charged its hyper-space drive.

Then a volley of Ion cannon fire from Steel Czar cut it in half. Then a volley of Super-heavy cannon fire from Tombstone arrived a split second later and hardly improved matters for the tiny ship.

"Dammit Czar we needed it alive!" Sharpe snapped, as the debris from the marker ship joined that of the alliance ships that had also died here.

"Sorry Vanguard, force of Habit. But at least he didn't escape."

Sharpe sighed and lent back in her seat, "Yes, there's that, CIC, identify those inbound contacts, Hell knights shut your Inhibitors down until you can figure out what happened."

"Registry got a match ma'am, their friendlies, the Horizon and Aslinde."

Inwardly, Sharpe released a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding, her cadets were all alright.

She opened a link to the two vessels, and exchanged a few words with captain, welcoming them back, when Trix interrupted with monumental news and a video feed that reduced the Admiral to a slack jawed stare.

They had Made contact with an Alien Race, and it would be coming here to speak with her.

It seemed that today would be one for the history books.

All ships stand down. The Battle-space is secure.

"yes captain"
"oh and jane, how could the frigate have attempted a jump? I thought the inhibitors were up?"
"they momentarily stopped working, i dont know whether it was diliberate or otherwise."
"well at least they got the ship cut in half, belay the order to go back to the broadsword, were going to investigate the remains of that frigate."

At that moment the still sizzling hulls of the Horizon and Aslinde. Joseph was thankfulll for their return, but was interested which system them accidently jumped to.
"All boarding partys head to the shuttles, we`re going to that frigate"

Yeah, Sharpe will host a briefing about the Alien ship once i've got the next chapter sorted out. So feel free to role-play investigating the wreck and i'll chip in with what you find, Darkvoid, your character will be sorted out at the briefing, but if you want to head over to the Vanguard already for a one-on-one chat with the Admiral, feel free. It'll help me get my writers block shifted.

Chapter Two: Divine Retribution.

"and you're certain this is accurate?" Fleet Marshal Bastion asked, his voice surprised and slightly skeptical. Sharpe couldn't blame him, she'd had Sammy checking and rechecking the validity of the video feed provided by Trix, and the AI had been forced to admit it was genuine, and even Captain Volk had agreed. The Asline had, by the dumbest luck, made first contact with an Alien Race. She said as much to her boss.

Sharpe was sat in her quarters on Vanguard, her jacket laid over the back of her chair and her shirt unbuttoned a few notches as she rummaged in her desk for a box of matches, an unlit cigar in her mouth. She had stood the fleet down while she made this sub-space communication and had taken the opportunity to relax a bit herself. That she was taking to the Fleet admiral didn't faze her and she didn't care of what he thought of her being out of uniform, they were old friends and tended not to stand on ceremony when it was just the two of them, the Fleet marshal himself was in his shirtsleeves and was probably still working on that damn boat in his basement.

"Well, i must say its got the lice worried," he said, referring to the Alliance Council, "they were going to spend hours arguing on who to send as a representative, but then i mentioned that the Aliens were expecting to meet with you, they shut up about it, it seems they believe you the best qualified for the position."

Sharpe grunted, still looking for her matches, Then she swore and turned to the holopad on the corner of her desk where her AI stood, "Sammy, where the hell are my matches?"

"Have you checked your pocket?" The Ai replied,

"Of course i have, do you think i'm-" Sharpe pasued, and pulled a box from the offered location. There was a cough from the Fleet Marshal, it almost hid the chuckle.

"Fleck it, i've had a long day." she retorted and turned back to the screen with a now lit cigar in her teeth, "As my report indicated."

"Yes i've read it, fine job by all your officers, and i'll make sure the names of those lost are added to the Wall." Bastion replied distractedly, placing a mug with the Words "Number One Granddad" written on the side in french in front of the camera for a second, while in the background there was the sound of him rummaging through a toolbox. "Fifth Fleet is on its way to reinforce you and i've passed on your commendation requests to the committee, and on that note.."

The mug was moved aside and the Marshal's face returned, "I understand your "Star Pupil" had the Pioneer almost destroyed in its first combat action, scant hours after her graduation and already you recommended her for The Star of Terra. Our highest Honor that had thus far only been awarded to one person. You."

"She risked her life for Aria, as I did for New London, would you dishonor her simply because of lack of combat experience?" Sharpe snapped back, "Commander Rose acted with bravery and selflessness, the very keystones of the Alliance, as did every man and women within my command, i'd give them all Stars if i could!"

"Enough, Admiral." Bastion snapped, "We will discuss it another time. For now You have new orders, secure the Aria System and wait for the Arrival of the Alien ambassador. Bastion out."

The connection severed and Sharpe blew a smoke ring at the screen spitefully, Sammy chuckled.

"Allright, you heard the old fart," Sharpe said to the AI as she stood, "Contact the Children and tell them there's to be a briefing here in an hour to discuss this latest bombshell, nothing formal, but make sure they behave themselves on my ship."

"My Pleasure Admiral," Sammy replied, "are you going dressed like that?"

Sharpe glanced down, then did up a couple of buttons and grinned, "it'll help the lads stay interested, but no, i'll keep the twins under wraps this time."

Sammy laughed again, "I'll just send them one of the old recruitment posters and they can use their imagination."

"Oh shut up and get back to work you stupid toaster."

The Ai vanished and Sharpe returned to her seat, turning it so it faced the window and could see her scarred face reflected back by the endless void. And she remembered the flames.

Sharpe cares little about the actual medal, but rather the prestige and honor that comes with it, its also triggering memories of New London, so Sharpe's being rather more emotional than normal.

A godlike light appeared around her and all the missiles suddenly turned into cute bunnies who died because they couldn't breathe in space. She grabbed a coffee from the local star bucks station, free of charge ofcourse, when a dreadnought appeared in the system. "Not this again." Trix muttered. as issac hopped off the mutt and onto the space station,he looked around and smiled. so many busy people,so little not working. walking along,he stopped to look at a new recruitment poster hung up on the wall with a piece of masking tape. shrugging he walks off wondering what to do. "hmmm, kinda hungry...weres a food stand?" finnaly finding one,he sits down. just as he is about to order a man runs up to him.
"commander issac!"
"err,what?"
"you are to report to sharpe immediately."
"buggar,i didnt get my burger..." getting up,issac gets the directions to the shuttle bay and starts walking to it. smiling,he hears his stomach growl. now frowning and angry he stops and looks back."i wouldn't hurt to get some food...would it?" standing there almost in a daze,he only snaps out of it as an engineer slams into him.
"s-sorry sir!"
issac smiled then pulled himself to his feet. "no problem." turning and walking off, issac shrugs the hit off. he could eat later he guessed.

as he finally arrived on the ship,he bit his lip.bigger than he was used to.felt weird. after getting lost trying to find his way around on his own,he was then given directions by a annoying AI. arriving last and late, issac looks at his fellow commanders. "sorry im late. so,whats with the hasty meeting? errr hasty meeting mam?"

Trix hovered trough her ship, the zero-g made this trip a breeze. That was if she could stop herself from bumping against everything. After a few bruises she made it to the small shutle bay in it lay a small disk like vessel, proudly displaying its name; Aslinde II. "Seems like creativity isn't valued in the navy" nexus said. "Who needs creativity when you can destroy planets?" trix replied. "Fair point." They both crawled into the tiny vessel, wich possibly was even more cramped than the routes in the Aslinde. Nexus hovered to the command chair while Trix placed herself in one of the passanger chairs. After a few seconds Nexus optic sensors jumped towards her. "Ready ma'am." She swung with her arms signalling him to go ahead. The small ion-thrusters emmited a bright blue as it shot the Aslinde II trough the depths of space. "I hope i won't make the other Lt Commanders uncomfortable with my..." Nexus said pointing at his sillicium body. "You shouldn't care about what other people say, you just make sure that all data is secure and protected." Nexus looked at his Commander, what a strange woman this was. Showing up with a Rel'tech was not...done. At best people would just ignore him. It was one of the reasons he liked space, no one saw him there as he jumped trough space as free as a bird. This Commander didn't seem to care about a social stigma, all she cared about was that she could do her job. Nexus felt respect for his commander bubbling up from beneath as he docked the vessle on the Admiral's ship.

"Admiral Sharpe, it has been quite some time since we last met" he muttered;...

Nexus was born on the small agri world of Erses. His planet produced food for the entire sector, an honourable job but it just wasn't it for nexus. Since he was a joung boy he had always looked up to the skies, wondering wat lay beyond. On the age of eighteen he left his house in the middle of the night. He hadn't told anyone of his plans, they wouldn't understand. Life in the capital city was hard, he lived from whatever he could scrape toghether. He even smuggled regulary for the Fresian cartel. But the recieved money would never get him up in space. He took a drastic turn with his life when he realised that. Nexus took all his belongings and walked to the Navy alliance recruitment bureau. From that day he wasn't a Erses farme anymore but a navy officer. He quickly rose trough the ranks, showing a neck for interstellar combat. After six years he was promoted to pilote, and got his own small fighter and was now stationed at the Vanguard He had never been so proud of himself. He was incontrol of the ship and flew between the stars. His life was complete until they recieved a jump order to proceed to New London.

It was a violent batlle, it took Every bit of skill Nexus had to stay alive and help his fellow soldiers. But despite the best he could, the hull density had recieved massive blows even the Shield generatos were no more then useless junk. Everyone in the fleet was listening to commander Sharpe directing the flow of battle. This woman was a tactical genius, every maneuvre she pulled of perfectly. Nexus believed it was one of the main reasons most of the alliance were still standing amongst the unrelentless Pirate attack. After several hours of intense combat the batlle started to shift in the advantage of the Aliiance. But little did they know that a small pirate Vessle had a ADM missile in its launchers. It flew trough the defensive line like an elegan deer, his launchers directly aimed at Commander Sharpe's ship. The pirate vessle got real close to the vessle until it exploded by a direct hit from the Cortego. But not before it had shot his ADM and the commander. Nexus immediatly recognised what it was. he tried to signal the commander but his comm-link wasn't online anymore. He watched as the Vanguard evaded the ADM letting it pass trough directly pointed at the planet. It was standard procedure to let these missiles go they would burn up in the atmosphere, leaving the surface unharmed. But they didn't realised it was no ordinary missile. Nexus quickly persued the fleeding missile, trying to take it down with his chain-gun. His first salvo missed and on the second try it jammed. Nexus was horrified, millions of people would die if he didn't stoped this missile, he looked behind him. No-one was coming after him, everyone was still focussed on the batlle. Nexus cursed as he set a collission course with the missile. He cursed Sharpe as he got consumed by an array of blinding light.

Nexus woke up. Everything was green and wet. He lloked around trying to move his arms. But he couldn't. he looked down trough the murky fluid and noticed that all he had left was a bloody stump. Memories flashed back of what happened, the Adm, his collision. Yet still he was alive, except for his body wich literally got pulled apart. He looked up as he heared knocking, a Man ina doctors uniform stood outside his bassin of green liquid. He explained that his body was beyond repair, but that the alliance would pay for each replacement he needed. "Afterall its the least we can do for a hero from New London." the man said. Nexus didn't listen to the doctor, instead he was focussed on the vidioscreen behind the doctor. His commander stood there recieving the honours and a new function. "The fething idiot, Nexus muttered. "Without me the entire world would've been destroyed, yet she got the glory."

Nexus quickly grew accusumed to his new sillicium body. The doctors found the rate at wich he adapted to the replacements remarkably. Nexus didn't care, he would get up in space once again. No matter what it took. One year after the batlle for New London he asked to rejoin the navy. In his interview he mentioned what happened to his questioner. That the Admiral had failed to recognise The ADM. His questioner laughed and said it wasn't important. "The alliance needs hero's, without it we can't unite the people and protect them from the dangers." Nexus ecieved a contract, he mustn't tell anyone what happened. This secret was his alon until the day he died. Nexus conceeded after he was told that without signing this contract he would never fly again. After that he got assigned to the Aslinde. Once aain he could fly troufh the stars and forget... until he entered the Vanguard once again....

Wait, Nexus is pissed at sharpe because:

-his comm malfunctioned at a critical juncture, something she had no control over,

-a small Pirate vessel had a ADM loaded, and was aiming it at ship, with point defenses that could shoot it down without breaking a sweat, despite the fact it needs to be guided onto target and a Friagte is too small to carry one.

- Sharpe's computers didn't recognize a banned weapon despite it being logged in the database as a priority one target.

- his weapon jammed, again, nothing to do with Sharpe

- he somehow survived a nuclear cluster bomb exploding in his face while flying a fighter. (look what happened to the Pioneer, a fully shielded battleship and it wasn't even hit directly.)

-He cursed his commander for having to sacrifice himself to save lives? why join the navy then? its kinda dangerous.

- he missed on on a medal, but if no one recognized him as a hero, why did the Alliance pay to have him rebuit? That'd be expensive and they'd not do it for just anyone.

Seems a pretty flimsy argument. very little of it seems to have to do with Sharpe herself, more like he hates her because she was there.

Some Facts about New London

- the Vanguard had been a mobile refinery until a few bays before the attack, with singe launch bay for defense, she'd always resented it as a pointless backwater assignment, as i mentioned, she got top marks in Norton Training.

- it was the only Alliance ship in system. vs a Pirate Dreadnaught who thought the system easy prey.

- Sharpe refused to retreat and let the Pirates take how many thousands of people as slaves. As a result, Sharpe ordered everyone else to evacuate while she distracted the enemy and bought time for the people on the planet to get to shelters.

- The Vangaurd would have been destroyed if the two ships hadn't knocked out eacth others command centres at the same time, leaving both dead in the water.

- She suffered extreme burns across her entire body, burns that disfigured her, (She had once posed as Poster-Girl, something she had been very proud of at the time.)

EDIT: oh Yes, in case this wasn't clear, Sharpe looks out those under her command, if she feels one of them is being slighted she'll fight tooth an nail for them, as her opposing the Fleet Marshal's choices shows.

Still don't see why he hates Sharpe, if anything he should hate the techs who prepped his aircraft

I've given clues through the RP on ADM delivery, a remote control laucher jumps into target system and another ship guides the ordinace on target. Makes finding the launch site difficult.

EDIT: ALso ADMs were not deployed in that battle.

Fair enough.

He could have joined a civilian ship,

- he missed on on a medal, but if no one recognized him as a hero, why did the Alliance pay to have him rebuit? That'd be expensive and they'd not do it for just anyone.

I guessed if the battle for new london was such a big deal, they would make sure that everyone was cared for.

fair enough. the Battle was such a great deal as it was a David vs Goliath situation, as my displaying of an Alliance Dred's stats,a Dread will win any fight unless it is fighting another dread, or it's significantly outnumbered, neither of which was true for this battle, Sharpe got lucky and hadn't intended to win, only to die slowly enough to save others, as the details about the battle i posted above show.

Spoiler:
Hate is a bad word more like strong dislike?

Why; Not noticing the ADM, (yes, not her fault) and making him a Rel'tech (again not er fault) .... wich i imagine is a real social stigma...people don't consider you human anymore, you can't ^^anymore, etc...

So he knows that she can't be blamed....But Sharpe is the only one he can give blame too... (imagine him as a racuneus person (is racuneus the right word?))

Hopes this explains
________

ADM spotter delivery, That's just a tactic

For example; artillery and spotter, but Artillery can still be shot at point blank range (although not very effective )
_________

For civilian ship argument, i imagine ships beeing very pricey, and i don't see private contractors giving a ship to an inexperienced bum from an agri-world...
Plus i have to tie him in the alliance.... else he wouldn't be in it

more spoilers

Garan left the bridge under the command of his AI, and made his way to the shuttle bay. It was now several hours since the destruction of the marker vessel, and the recovery of the pioneer, and Sharpe had sent a message requesting his presence of the Vanguard. He walked into the vast, industrial looking, hanger bay, and went over to his captain’s shuttle. The shuttle had a smooth white hull, with subtle curves and slopes contributing to its sleek shape. The access point was to the rear of the ship, and was already open ready for him to arrive.
“Computer,” Garan said as he walked inside, “Close shuttle door.” The computer wordlessly operated the door control, and it clanged shut a few seconds later. Garan made his way to the cockpit, and asked his pilot to ready the ship for launch. The pilot was straight on the radio to the bridge, but Garan couldn’t hear what was said. The hanger door slid open, and the shuttles engines flared as it left.
The shuttle made its way across the void, and soon entered hanger bay 2 of the Vanguard. Garan stood up, and made his way to the back of the shuttle, where he found the door already open. He stepped outside, and onto the Vanguard.
He made his way to the briefing room, where Admiral Sharpe had arranged the meeting.

The ion drives of the Havok powered down as the ship came within close proximity of the destroyed hull, given shape by the support struts, like the ribs and backbone of a whale, harpooned by the hunters. Small pieces of the frigate impacted against the reinforced prow of the ship, glancing of the allready scratched paintwork and flying off into the nothingness of space. The still hot shards of the reactor of the marker ship cooled and glowed for a instant as they molded around the still active sheild of the destroyer before be cast aside by the constantly reforming shield of energy.
A metalic clunk emerged from the large hanger bays as the blast doors disengaged, the allready shimmering force field keeping the pressure inside the hanger itself, but not stopping the heat loss, making the assembled members of the Havok clasp their atmospheric suits closer to themselfs, as if to shield themselves from the cold. Among the men and women standing on deck was the half of the ships marines and other tech related staff, should they find a undamage piece of computer hardware that they could be able to salvage, and learn the source of those dreadfull missiles.
The magnetic crane hanging from the celing jerked suddenly from its place, dissapearing to its left, into a seperate compartment of the hanger. As it re-amerged, it had the hulking form of a shuttle in its grasp, before depositing it before the assembled crowd. Up in the bridge of the ship, her captain, Joesph Inkheart spoke a single sentence, gesturing forwards. "Tell them to capture and salvage whatever they can, and then bring us to the vanguard, the admiral sounded anxious"

The Breifing room on the Vangaurd was much like the rest of the ship, plain and functional.

A dozen chairs sat around two sides of a triangular table, with the third side facing a wall mounted display screen, Sharpe was sat in the chair at the triangle's summit, idly spinning the chair around in circles while she waited for her students to find themselves places.

The First thing the new officers noticed, aside from her distracted swiveling, was her lack of formal uniform, in place of her usual jacket was a short sleeved shirt, the flesh on her arms as scared and burned as her face and neck, and the woman tended to run her finger down them, tracing the lines, as if she wasn't really aware she was doing it, her attention was on Sammy, who was displaying files before her Admiral's face.

Before each chair on the table's surface was a small holo-pad for their ship's AI to project itself for those ships who had no human XO, those who were human simply sat beside their captain, several took out note pads and data recorders so they could be sure that no details went unnoticed.

"Right." Sharpe announced, pushing the files away from her face with a wave of her hand as the last man was seated, "Lets get started."

The Lights dimmed slightly, and their was a soft "woosh-click" as the door sealed itself.

"I've summoned you all here for an announcement.' She said standing and walking around the table to the display, "one that concerns the adventures the Horizon and Aslinde got up to when they miss-jumped, I'll not dance around it. Here it is."

She took a deep breath and nodded to where Sammy stood near her chair, the screen at her back activated, showing the giant winged ship Alisde had encountered,

"We have made First Contact with an alien Race, and it is sending a representative here to formally meet with us."

Surprised gasps and muttered curses echoed around the briefing room, then repeated as Sharpe displayed the apparent size of the ship encountered, if the sensory data was to be believed, it was over four times the size of a Dreadnought.

"According to Commander Zedong's report, the Alien Ambassador referred to itself as Anya, Daughter of Salanos, although what Race it belongs to is unknown at this time, I suppose we will discuss it during the talks, as of now our original task has been suspended and we are to remain in stand by in this system until Anya arrives. the Fifth Fleet has been mobilized from Fort Essex and will be here inside of seven hours to reinforce us. That brings me to another deployment point."

She turned to Reynolds, "You've been reassigned. Effective Immediately. You and the Horizon are to make best possible speed to Fort Brighton and link up with the 23rd Patrol Fleet. There you will be given further orders. Dismissed."

Face tight and impassive Reynolds stood, saluted, and left the room, pausing only to let sammy unlock the door for him, then he was gone.

"Damn Shame." Sharpe muttered, watching him go, then spoke up, "any questions?"

(OCC Snarky has informed me that he no longer wishes to be involved in the RP, so this is my method of getting his character out without resorting to a random and stupid Sudden Character Death(tm). the rest of you can now ask any questions that occur to your characters.)

(OOC: Apologies for just a quick one.. I have my reasons)

BIC:

Natalie sat patiently, LeGuin beside her, as they waited for the Admiral to speak. The presentation began shortly and the mind-blowing news was announced. "Aliens!" LeGuin hissed beside her, his tone indistinguishable between surprise, awe and fear as the alien vessel was shown on the screen with a Dreadnought shown for comparative size. The alien ship dwarfed the mighty Dreadnought, and as Natalie glanced over at the Captain's of the Dreadnoughts, whom were seated opposite LeGuin and herself, noting that they wore expressions of disbelief and annoyance at no longer being "the biggest fish in the sea" as it were.

Of course, everyone was still undoubtedly shocked at this revelation. Indeed, this could well turn out to be the most historic and important discovery this side of the century.

After the details had been dispensed and the assembled officers discussed the news amongst themselves, Natalie leaned over to Sharpe, who was sitting at the triangular table's head to her left. The Admiral immediately noticed her.
"Captain Rose, I assume you're wondering what will become of you and your remaining crew now that you no longer have a serviceable vessel," Sharpe stated perceptively.
"Yes," Natalie nodded.
Sharpe began to reply, "Well..."

"Admiral," Garan asked politley, "What are our orders untill this Alien arrives?" The rest of the group looked at Sharpe, seemingly thinking the same thing.
Garan waited for the answer...

Sharpe paused as she pulled a cigar from her case and lit it, sparing a glare for the AI before her as she did so, then blew a smoke ring up at the celing, where the air scrubbers claimed it.

"Well, you've probably guessed the Pioneer is out of action for the foreseeable future,' She told Rose, Turning to Face her, "Three months under Broadsword's care before it can even make a jump again, then a year back on Mars to get the superstructure reinforced."

Sharpe Glanced over to Sammy, who nodded and made a swiping gesture while her holographic hand,

"Here is the data file for your replacement ship, Commander," The AI said in her thick accent, " Formally Commanded by Commodore Johnson, who is retiring in a few days, and as such has stepped down."

"Rose examined the file carefully, and gave a little jolt as she read the note added at the bottom

"For going above and beyond the call of duty, your name has been submitted to receive The Star of Terra, Second Class, First if they will allow it. Keep it up and your could be commanding your own sector in a few years. Sharpe."

"We worked together a few times before New London." Sharpe added, "His ship is a Titan class Battleship, old but reliable, fitted with some fancy experimental kit he couldn't talk about, its on its way here under a skeleton crew, so those of your crew still fit for duty can just transfer over with little fuss. That Reminds me."

Sharpe stood, immediately silencing her officers, 'We've also been given a unique opportunity, the Navy Research division have offered to provide us with some prototype kit on a volunteer basis, provided you send them back any all all combat data after an engagement. They are sending a ship with parts and plans, i'll have them sent to your data pads once i've seen them myself."

"Admiral." Garen asked politely, "What are our orders until this alien arrives?"

"Hold until reinforcement." Sharpe replied simply, 'Aria is Vulnerable at the moment to a follow up raid, so remain at condition 2 until the fifth fleet arrives."

Suddenly the breifing screen flicked back on, and the Face of Cptain Volk, the NIS officer, appered where the alien ship had been moments before,

"Admiral, Sorry to interrupt, but there is something you should know."

"What is it Captain?"

"I've just finished going over the data and wreckage recovered from the battle and have discovered something troubling, the Marker frigate and the Pirate ships are not from the same or even allied war-hosts, I've interrogated pirate survivors and they claimed to belong to "The Black Hand." war-host, a minor one of little renown, but the Marker frigate has symbols neither i nor the prisoners recognize."

"Could they be lying?" Shapre asked,

"No."

Sharpe nodded, Volk was the best in the business of extracting information, but she had to ask anyway, to make sure.

"it is my belief that the two factions where here separately, and it fits with Pirate MO, why kill the golden goose? Destroying a planet cuts off a source of supplies, not to mention would force the Alliance to step up their campaign, and the Pirates know they wouldn't survive a war with us. They're parasites, they need us to survive."

"Understood." Sharpe agreed with a nod, "keep me posted on anything else you find."

"Aye aye." Volk replied, and the connection was cut.

"Thats a Problem," Sharpe mused, then turned to her officers, "Alright get back to your ships and remain alert, Rose, you are welcome to stay aboard the Vanguard if you wish, if not, I'm sure one of the others will be happy to host you. Dismissed."

(OCC: Darkvoid, you can design a new ship if you wish, and you and everyone else can also choose an Experimental System from the list that i will be adding to the discussion thread shortly, it'll be added to your ship after the next event.)

Airia System. Three days later.

The tactical display was a sea of blue symbols, Alliance ships and squadrons just itching for a hostile to enter the system so they could get some payback on those who dared use ADMs against a peaceful world.

Sharpe doubted any pirate would be stupid enough to attack now, aside from the 14th, the 5th Reserve and the Hell-knight Line-breaker squadron, construction had begun of another station above the planer, this one loaded up with torpedo launchers and ion cannons, so that once everything had returned to normal in the system, no-one would find Aria nearly as easy to crack.

A corvette squadron flew leisurely past the bridge, its formation a little sloppy, but the crew were getting used to their new toys so Sharpe saw no reason to reprimand them at the moment, she would be looking forward to see how their turret mounted ion-pulsar performed in combat.

Essentially a miniaturized ion cannon, the Corvettes arrival on the Vanguard had forced the merging of launch bays just to accommodate them, and the techs responsible for them were nervous at having such potent weapons so close together, reducing their size made them incredibly unstable and unable to fire for more than a second without overheating so even more space was needed.

Shapre's gaze again fell upon the tactical display, several of her ships were still docked with broadsword, as the eggheads attached prototype systems to their hulls and gave thorough briefing on their operation. Several where launching now, their new additions standing out starkly against their once sleek hulls

"Vangaurd, this is Broadsword, we have an inbound contact, Mothership class, power readings are off the scale. ETA Ten minutes. Looks like our guest has finally arrived.

"Thank you Broadsword. All ships, defensive formation around Aria, keep your shields raised but weapons tight. we don't want to start an incident. Vanguard out.

(Players can no post their actions over the last few in-game days, including their addition of an Experimental if necessary. Darkvoid, if you can post a new ship design in the Discussion thread when possible I'll change your stats in the OP.)

Over the last few days, the crew of the Void Phoenix had been working furiously on the installation of the new experimental systems. 7 squadrons of Torpedo Bombers had been gradually brought aboard by bulk lifters from British Aerospace, the manufacturer of these new craft.
The torpedo bombers were amazingly capable strike craft, seeing that each one of these relatively small craft carried a full sized torpedo.
The old strike craft of the Void Phoenix had been sent into the storage bays in the bowels of the ship, so they could be reintroduced if needed, without fetching new craft from a ship yard.
The launch bays had been converted to hold these new craft, as well as being fitted with large ammo cranes for loading the torpedoes.

The rest of the ship had undergone a massive inspection and maintenance, compulsory for ships after their first deployment.
The ship was found fit for service, and a few minor repairs were made to various circuits, and a few of the external bulkhead which had been dented by the ADM blasts.
The ship was in perfect condition again, and ready to engage its foes.

Garan had been in the ships mess hall when he received the form up order from Admiral Sharpe, he immediately left his roast beef lunch, as tasty as it was, to tend to his duties as captain.
He arrived at the bridge less than a minute later, and immediately sat down in his captain’s chair.
The Void Phoenix had already been piloted to into its dedicated place, curtsey of KIRK.
“Make sure the Torpedo Bombers are loaded, but don’t launch them,” Garan said to his tactical officer, “We don’t want to scare the alien, but be ready just in case.”
“Torpedo’s loading now captain” The tactical officer replied.
“Shields up, go to condition 2.” Garan continued.
Then they waited, waiting for their chance to meet an alien…

As the havoc powered up its engines to leave the dock of the broadsword its captain was in the recently re employed interceptor hanger, observing the final installation of the new steal field generator. The technicians themselves were immersed in the wiring of the humming core before him. He knew, thanks to his data pad, that it would be complete in the next half hour and therefore would be ready for its first test. In the first couple of hours he had watched the original testing videos of this piece of tech and was amazed at the effectiveness of it. He strode forward towards the man overlooking the installation, called Thomas. He heard the approach of the captain and such turned and anticipating the question that was about to be presented to him, gave him the answer that the steal field would be ready soon. “Good, good. When it is ready, I want it tested. And I want it done fast.”
“yessir”
“thank you”
Turning from the man and walking from the hanger he noticed the heavy ceiling mounted cannons that would serve to protect this experimental device, track him out of the door and he smiled. Those would protect the generator, and if it was sought to be damaged, his career.

The shuttle doors opened as the captain stepped inside. Then closed as he sat in the co pilots seat next to the shuttle pilot. As the hanger bay opened and the shuttle powered up and out, Joesph saw the modifications that has been made to his ship, many pylons and radio nodes cris crossed his ship. These are what projected the unique net across the ship to cloak it in space. Mere minuets later the tips of every node began to glow as parts of the ship became less solid but then faltered and returned to normal. Then they glowed even brighter and what happened made him falter. His ship had disappeared.

issac looked over the roster of his ships systems.it all looked good to him. the new stealth feild would come in handy, and hopefully not blow up. its installation had costed him in other stuff, but it would be worth it. as he stood up and walked out of the command bay,he smiled and yawned. he hadent slept in some time and needed to catch up. "sir france, dont disturb me unless absolutely necessary."
"understood sir." flopping down on his bed.not even changing, issac noticed he smelled kind bad but ignored it and closed his eyes.
"im going to get woken up soon i bet...."

on the Bellicose class Ship-Of-The-Line Battleship, Armageddon Knight, Norman McKnight got up from his stateroom bed after the alarms had been going for some time. And then only to smash them. When the sounds of the wakeup calls were gone, he rubbed his eyes and groggily belted on his combat boots, camo pants, desert fatigues, sword belt, and flak jacket. This was in stark contrast with his room, upholstered in red velvet and cheery furniture as well as the Martian-wood tile floor. Norm had always preferred to live in a semblance of decency rather than the ‘be like their men’ commanders who were laughed at behind their backs. He knew that a lot of what his men were getting drunk on was his own stash and couldn’t care less. He never drank alcohol anyways and just used it as a test. Besides, if you were decent and not a gak head to your men, they would think you were great. Norm distained the ‘drab boring depressing’ rooms in favor of a place where could relax. He had earned it. Other navy commanders could be brilliant tacticians but not have actually had their life in real danger, with the enemies actively trying to kill YOU not your ship, and the only thing separating your vulnerable flesh from an insurgents bullet was a simple flak jacket that was only meant to repel shrapnel…

He tended to, unlike other ‘squids’ be generally liked as far as regular army went, with his medals and all but really he did not care at the moment. After grumbling his way to the bridge he readjusted the sword belt. each sword was the iconic fleet broasword, usless in the confines of a ship really but iconic enough to get some heads turned. The secondary scabbard the one on his back was more of a sheath really and for McKnight, contained his preferred close quarters weapon that had served him well in the Marine Corps on Earth. it was more of an oversized machete than a sword or bayonet A real ‘gentleman’s’ sword would get you killed on a ship so he preffered to leave his Sword over the mantelpice in his room. while single edged blades, while considered vulgar by some, had been realized as the premier CC weapon since the ages of piracy on old terra he had to admit that the Sword did look imposing. he had gotten it after joining the fleet with flying colors, after he incident on the persian gulf..

He remembered what he had been dreaming about as he slept. Holding out for seven grimy nights and seven brutal days with the streets running slick with blood. The smell of death, hanging like a shroud as bullets snapped and hissed by him, the feeling of the M70 carbine as it clicked dry. Salvaging rounds anywhere they could find. The AK-100 round slamming into his guts and tearing them up one day before breakout…he still had the bullet that had almost claimed his life. He also still had the bullet that HAD claimed the life of the man who shot him. He remembered pulling the shell out of the cooling insurgent before kicking the man into the dust…

Most of his crewmen were former army and saw themselves as ground-pounders still. And rightly so. They had EARNED this life of relative comfort. Each and every one of his bridge crewmen had proved himself one hundred times over. And a hundred times again. The Armageddon Knight was rendezvousing with a battered fleet, to join it and fill the vacant battleship’s slot.

Then there was his ship. It was his whole career summed up in one deadly, powerful, space hulk. A mass of metal and men., With the ten cold fusion reactors of the Bellicose class Ship-Of-Thee-Line provided simultaneous energy for his engines, ion cannons, and shields. The computer ‘smart’ AI, Shelia, ran the ship at max efficiency at all times. the Knight herself was a god of war.

But where there be gods, there too be demons…

He had graduated only last month and had been getting familiar with his new ship. He had requested a deployment and had got one. Boy was he gonna pay for it now. He knew that these start-at-navy-die-at-navy types like Sharpe loathed the footsloggers. Even if they were only former Ground-pounders , but still, the principle was the same, and McKnight was not expecting the warmest of welcomes from the probably close knit group as he left hyperspace feeling like the black sheep…

Ship: Void Phoenix
Status: Shields Up
Hull: 10
Shields: 10

“Captain,” KIRK said calmly to Garan, “A new battleship sized vessel has just entered the system.”
“Identify it,” Garan quickly ordered, “I want to know if it is friendly or not.”
“It is broadcasting an identification signal,” Ensign Garakof, the ships communications officer, said, “It identifies as the Armageddon Knight, a Bellicose class battleship, under the command of Captain McKnight.”
Garan though for a moment, before turning to his navigator,
“Take us back into formation, it’s a friendly. We will let Admiral Sharpe deal with why it is here”
The ion drives flared, as the Void Phoenix returned to the defensive formation with the rest of the ships.

Ship: Armageddon Knight
Status: shields up

Shields: 100%

“This is Armageddon Knight, to the 14th fleet, we are being reassigned to your battlegroup. Over”

The comms officer closed the channel. “Elena? Next time put up a two way video feed, I want to see to whom I am talking.” Said Norm.
“Yes sir, sir? Incoming transmission.” Said the comms officer

“On screen.” Said Norm, standing in the middle of he deck in between the two crew pits.

(I thought that the bridge would look like a star destroyers, with two crew pits on either side of a walkway, and other stations around the walls.)

Mine looks something like this:

Except less stupid and with technology that actually exceeds that of 2011.

Edit:

And with a design that's more asthetically pleasing. So actually not very much like that. But whatever. It doesn't exist anymore. Sort of. Bleh.

Here is the description I wrote of mine:
The Void Phoenix’s bridge is a state of the art design, incorporating the best of ship design from over 100 years of the navy. It has a central chair, for the captain, upholstered in black leather, with built in display screens, coms system and command controls. To the left of this, is the First Officers chair, and to the right is a chair for visiting dignitaries and senior officers. In front of the command hub, in the centre of the bridge, is the navigational and science stations. These consoles have huge displays, and highly responsive touch screens, ensuring that all the data is available to view and act upon by the crew members stationed there. In the rear right of the bridge is the communications console. It is from here that the ship’s captain may communicate with the rest of the fleet, his own crew, or other vessels and stations. The opposite side of the bridge to the coms station is the tactical station. This is where the ship coordinates its attacks and defensive systems from. Its displays and touchscreens show the status and condition of all the tactical systems and strike craft on the vessel. On the left and right sides of the bridge, there are the engineering and operations consoles. It is from here that things such as monitoring of the anti-matter drive and the fusion reactors. The operations console, or the ops console as it is more commonly known, is where the bridge officers can perform actions such as adjusting the ships lighting, artificial gravity and open the hanger doors, among other things.
Overall, the bridge is a sleek and modern area equipped with the very best of federation technology. The brushed aluminium surfaces, the jet black touch screens, with their bright coloured controls, and the black leather upholstery give it an impressive feel, and an aura of command.

"a new ship has arrived sir." blinking, issac stood up and smiled.
"he tryin to shoot us?"
"no sir,its an addition to are fleet." issac shrugged and walked out of his room obviously heading for the food court.
"thats good, ill wait to we get introduced at the meeting with the alien though,so for now just do the normal stuff."
"understood sir."grabbing his meal and sitting down, issac was surprised.
"hot dog hamburger? huh, were we out of hot dog buns or hamburger patties?"

"Yes commander"
"good, lets see how this turns out, actually, get up close, and send them a message, then turn of the generator. But be ready to charge shields as soon as its turned off"
Grining to himslef about the prank he was going to pull on the new captian, he walked towards the crews mess, for somthing to eat.

“KIRK,” Garan said, “Activate the ESM pod, and begin scanning with a view to calculate precise firing solutions. I want to be prepared for the worst. If even half of what the Admiral said in the briefing is true, we will only get one shot to destroy it if anything goes wrong.”
“Pod Active Sir” KIRK replied quickly.
“Also,” Garan continued, “I want four of the torpedo bomber squadrons armed with anti-biological warheads. They will be are best shot against a living ship.”
“Reloading sequence initiated.” Ling reported to Garan.
“Once the alien arrives,” Garan said, “I want full scans of every aspect of it. What I don’t want is for it to see that we have loaded strike craft, so boost the anti-scan shielding around the hanger bays. We have to find out everything we can about it and it’s capabilities.”

Aria System

Unlike the human method of exiting hyperspace, a rather violent display of energy as their ships tore their way through the planes of reality, the Alien mothership seemed to fade into view, almost gently, and for the first time humanity go its first propper look at an aliem vessel.

Whereas human ships were built on a horizontal plane, mimicking the surface ships of old, this alien vessel was more vertical, with a sleek and graceful hull hanging between two huge wings that emerged from its back, as the Alliance watched, they flexed and beat at the void, moving far more naturally than any artificial contract should move.

The main hull was even more shocking, shaped roughly like a cacoon of some insect, beneath a clear coating of what looked like crystal there seemed to be darker spots that looked instantly familiar to every human in the sector.

The interior frame was humanoid.

Any further attempts at analysis were thwarted as suddenly the blazing light burst from the body, making it impossible for any details aside from the wings to be seen as it coasted forward toward the waiting humans.

Despite its massive size and lack of any visible locomotion, aside from the wings that did not seem to be assisting the movement. it crossed the sector in surprising speed, coming to a halt before the suddenly very nervous Alliance force.

"It us good to swim under stars once more." Said the new arrival, its voice echoing from every comms terminal in the fleet, musical and light, "But of course I am getting ahead of myself. We are here to talk. I am Anya, Daughter of Salanos."

Suddenly light filled the bridge of the Vangaurd for a split second, blinding those inside, when it suddenly vanished a figure was standing before Sharpe's command chair, turning slowly to face the human officer.

It was inhumanly tall and slender, and like the ship it had come from it had a pair of shimmering wings emerging from its shoulder blades, but its skin was smooth and glasslike, and its proportions were too-perfect, too similar to its hosts for sharpes liking.

"Welcome aboard the Vanguard." Sharpe said calmly, as if the unauthorized teleportation of an alien ambassador to her command centre happened all the time,

the Angel figure chuckled, "Thank you, but i am not truly here, this construct is merely holding a fraction of my mind so we may discuss matters in a way your kind is more familiar with. I constructed it to me similar to your own shapes from data i was generously provided with when we made first contact. i hope it is accurate." the wings folded around her shoulders and for a second the face looked embarrassed. "The wings are a force of habit. My constructs always have to have some link to my actual body or i feel wrong."

"You.. you are the ship?" Sharpe asked, her confusion evident.

"Of course, and has been since my birth eons ago when the stars were new." the Angel-construct smiled reassuringly, "but i find your methods and forms intriguing none the less, so please do not feel disadvantaged. I feel we can learn much from each other.

This week has been chock-full of revelations, surprises of both the pleasant and unpleasant nature, gaming, hospitals, and a single instance today when ChaosUK was hit by a car. By far, it is the strangest week I have ever experienced, so I hope you can understand that my mind has been... elsewhere. Then I will be leaving to head up north sometime next week, and am not sure when I shall return. I hope you understand.
