True, but only a tiny proportion of their range, and at a cheaper set that's still not actually that cheap.
Out of interest how much do you think an average infantry model should cost? I ask because GW goes a low as about 85p a model in some sets and as expensive as £20+ (for a character).
I play a lot of historics/generic fantasy, so I'm used to paying*...
in bulk (i.e. 40 man boxes): 50p plastic / £1 metal
less bulk (i.e. 10 man boxes): £1 plastic / £2 metal
Individuals: normally around the £5 mark for metal, maybe going as high as £10.
I find some GW models too expensive and so don't buy them, but I find most of the range acceptably priced. I get a lot of painting enjoyment out of my miniatures which maybe makes it seem like money better spent.
That's my stance as well, which is why I've spent £0 on
GW stuff this year, and about £500 on non-
GW stuff to paint. I like a lot of the
GW stuff but when I compare it to my other purchases, I just can't.
*That's almost always from companies that don't do their own moulds / casting in-house, so don't have the same economies of scale as
GW does.

FW has premium prices, because it's an obscure, hand-cast boutique range. Even then, there are examples where
FW mini's are cheaper than Citadel plastics (even in the
UK).
The discount boxes certainly seem to be a way to offer deals without reducing prices, and they have done some price experiments, but since the price of each new release almost invariably goes up, it's a bit disingenuous to say they are actually improving there.
That said, unless Blood Bowl is crazy expensive, I have to admit to being tempted by it.
