The Lost Companies of Jorek Greatwolf- Yet more Rune Priests @ 2014/12/19 16:53:31

Post by: Kurnost

I've been working on this army for many years now; they started as a 13th Company army when the Eye of Terror campaign came out back in '03. Since then I've modified the list across 3 codices but never actually completed them. Recently I dug them out, dusted them off and started repainting them.

They're a lost company, as mentioned, but one forged from the tattered remnants of many companies rather than a single company. Jorek, the wolf lord leading them, is 13th company, as are a handful of his warriors. Other companies have brought tanks, terminator armour, bikers, flyers etc and joined with Jorek and the others for mutual protection and survival.

Modelling-wise they use the old 13th company look of part Imperial part Chaos, with the various warriors each bearing different combinations.

Paint scheme is the Space Wolf legion colours; Mechanicus Standard grey, badab black wash, layer of Dawnstone. Chaos parts are painted a Chaos Legion, except Death Guard or Emperor's Children.

My painting skills desperately need improving, particularly looking at a model up close

Lemme know what you think!

These are my first completed squad, Greywolf's Pack. Grey Hunters with a battle leader.
All my squads have standards, something left over from the previous codex, and it helps to make them stand out on the tabletop

And one for the treadheads- picked up the Chapterhouse rhino kit and even put it on a rhino a while ago, just found it in a box. Thinking I'll turn it into an old school Razorback, the open topped turreted ones, with lascannon/ twin plasma gun.

Here's how it currently looks:

Just started painting another couple of rhinos, no pics yet, but was hoping for some ideas from you guys; I know such a flat expanse of a single colour can look dull and boring, any ideas on sprucing it up? I was thinking shields and pack markings, but I don't want to go too crazy, they're supposed to be feral but still functional.

Also, dug out my old 'counts-as' Lone Wolf. Hope you like him.

(I apologise for the picture quality, it's taken from my phone. I'd buy an actual camera but I'm hanging out for Santa)

Last one before bed for the day!

Going to greenstuff the gaps between plasticard and model and hopefully get it smooth enough to look like there was never a gap there in the first place

Thanks knubbis!

After a productive night at work -love a good standby- I have the (wolf)Man himself, Jorek Greatwolf!

Swapped the hand out, he used to wield a Dreadknight thunder hammer.

These two, a Baneblade and a Leman Russ, came from a friend who got out of the hobby a few years ago. They're a bit dinged up and missing some pieces.

I had to rebuild the Russ with plasticard for a fair number of bits. I'm not sure on the track covers, they need further work it's true.

The Baneblade was being rebuilt as a Fellblade until Forgeworld released theirs. Now it's going to be a Baneblade with unusual bitz on it

After 40ish hours awake and painting for most of it, I think it's time to sleep....
Anywho onto the painted goodness!
The old school Razorback I'm working on has a coat of paint and detail added to it, and I've built the turret. The Long Fangs in the picture are the squad that will be using the tank.

Also, in honour of the new Blood Angels codex, my counts-as Astorath the Grim, Idolaf Sternhammer and one of his wulfen guard (Death Company)

Automatically Appended Next Post:
So, no pics just a basic list of what I have to paint:

Great Company, Apocalypse
The Black Rage, Apocalypse
Catachan Ambush Patrol, Apocalypse
Predator Assassin Squadron
Armoured Vanguard Squadron, Apocalypse

And that's just for starters!

Catachans are my allied Fenrisian Thrall units, Death Company are Wulfen.

Some Forgeworld goodness; a Land Raider Achilles Alpha, Cataphractii Terminators and the Mk IV command set arrived today

The Achilles and Cataphractii are going towards my Winterborn; a siege assault army using the forgeworld rules and Chapter Tactics: Carcharodons. I want to see what an entire 10-man assault terminator unit with lightning claws and cataphractii armour looks like! Also picked up some 3rd party fur bitz since my greenstuff skills are questionable at best.

The Mk IV is being set aside for another project, later. Trying to keep everything focused on the wolves for now

My first few Fenrisian Thralls. The guy with the heavy bolter is Ufberth Ironhide, my take on Gunnery Sergeant Harker. The gent with the white beard is a Thrall Skald, charged with singing the sagas of the worthy and great. His presence inspires nearby Thralls to fight the harder, hoping it will be them he sings of! In rules terms, he's a commissar. The Jotunbrud with the shield and mace is my Bullgryn Bone 'Ead. I made him from a minotaur. He's the first of several I plan to make

Thanks Lady Mournival, I shall keep updating!

The razorback, now christened Ansilvund (Thanks, Skyrim!) is almost done, as are the two rhinos I started for my Winterborn company. I started work on a new character, Holgir Bearclaw, the Keeper, for another part of the company, and I'm working on a side armour door/gun piece for a scratchbuilt land raider.
Thoughts, questions, criticisms and advice are always welcome!

Merry Christmas to all!

Pretty sure I just had a post go AWOL... apologies if this is a reprint....

So, all my Christmas money is now gone, spent on 32mm bases for my power armoured marines...
While the change annoyed me at first, it means I can get scenic on those beasts! I have some scenic bases already and for a few of them the 25mm was just too small. Hopefully 32mm helps there.

I'm now working on the Wild Hunt, a company entirely composed of Thunderwolf riders and Fenrisian wolves. They used to be the Canis Wolfborn build from the 5th ed codex, now they're being built up into a Wolfpack Flanking force.

In the fluff I've written for my companies, they have a small fleet of mostly recaptured ships. One of them was a ship of the Ordo Hospitaller, now turned over to the Wolf Priests. In the dark laboratories aboard, they craft new Space Wolves from the Thrall population and genetically modify -or create from scratch- new war beasts. Which is why my 'thunderwolves' are so varied.
It also explains this guy!

I either use the Creature Feature rules from WD 292 if my opponent is okay with that, or the Ork Squiggoth rules from Forgeworld (the little Squiggoth, not the gargantuan one)

This update brought to you by Insomnia! I've heard it said sleep is for the weak. Whoever said that was an idiot!
So, unable to sleep, I grabbed a whiskey and made my way to the office. This is what I've come up with. Some of them are old projects I dusted off and photographed. The Chaos dudes, Thrall flamer and sergeant and, to a lesser extent, the Wolf Brothers, are examples of this.
Others, like the Swiftclaws and Thralls, were barely clipped, cleaned and glued before the camera came out.
But enough talk! Pics or it didn't happen!

Hey RBeijers, sorry I missed you on the first read through, thanks for having a look!

My Thralls continue to grow, as do all aspects of the company really. Just finished building a re-captured Ork tank that, for now, counts as a Whirlwind.
I've also decided to build the Winterborn units as 40K/ 30K units, so all their wargear and builds has to match both timelines! I'm using the Forgeworld Siege Assault Vanguard list for 40K, and since you can't use Space Wolves to build that list, I've gone with Chapter Tactics: Carcharodons. I have some plans to build Wolf Lord Arstan Winterborn, who will be a Legion Praetor or Tyberos the Red Wake, out of the Legion Praetor in Cataphractii armour, Lufgt Huron's Ghost Razors, a chainfist, and furry bitz. Watch this space....
The Winterborn Einherjar, a trio of dreadnoughts, count as a Legion Dreadnought Talon in 30K and Siege Dreadnought Talon in 40K. The two I have are nearly done, but I need to get a third. Probably going to corrupt a Furioso for that honour, since it's the only dreadnought kit with a right hand.

Last but not least, some of my old, need-a-repaint Blood Claws, from Ulfrid Traitorsbane's pack. These guys will definitely benefit from 32mm bases!

Hi Dakka!

More love for the Winterborn- Blackwolf's pack, an Honour Guard squad with Relic Blades. The third guy is the standard bearer, and he'll have his blade over his shoulder like he doesn't have a care in the world. I have no idea if this is a viable build for an Honour Guard squad but I like the idea of berserkers with two handed swords

Enjoy!

Back again, hope everyone had an awesome new years!

Working on the Winterborn mostly, with some unusual side projects- converting a Dark Elf Kharybdiss into a Krakenspawn for fun and games, building an utterly unrelated box of Space Hulk, and my fantasy army of undead Elves using the Undead Legion list from Nagash- but still getting paint on the grey and furry ones.

Some progress on my Winterborn Land Raider Achilles Alpha, and the ubiquitous Imperial Knight. Mine is called Grimalkin, and her pilot is the Lady of Scars. They were formerly of House Griffith, but now serve alongside the warriors of the Dishonoured, and through her oath to them, to Jorek Greatwolf

And now for something completely different! Blood Angels, Undead, and Goblins, sorta...

The first miniature I painted from Space Hulk was the dead Blood Angel as an objective marker/ test piece. Thoughts? I'm trying lighting... Think I'm failing :p

The next guy is based on a pygmy from a Lustrian-themed Empire army in the latest Visions book. I have a fair number of Goblins left over from when I bought boxes of the wolf riders for fenrisian wolves, thought I'd use them up somehow. I'm thinking maybe as Ratlings, but I need to sort out arms.

And, lastly, Lathen the Eternal, my once-was-a-Wood-Elf Tomb King/ Arkhan the Black proxy and a few of his Necrolith Collossi.

Apologies for the pictures, but I'm picking up the stuff to make a light box tomorrow and then buying a camera so the quality shall improve

Let me know what you think!

Post by: Kurnost

So, after a chat with a workmate/ occasional 40K opponent, I've decided to write what I'm actually working on in a little more detail.

There's two formations that are named "Great Company", one in the Apocalypse book and the other in the Space Wolf codex.
The one in the codex needs the following:
1 Wolf Lord- Jorek Greatwolf
1 Wolf Guard Battle Leader- Don't have it yet
1 unit of Wolf Guard- Power armoured, not terminators. Need to build these guys
5 units of Grey Hunters- 50 dudes! So far, I have 3 full(ish) packs with shoulder pads etc. Still need those 32mm bases
1 unit of Wolf Scouts- Have the models, but never used them. They're on the desk now
3 units of either Blood Claws, Skyclaws or Swiftclaws- Have 2 units of Blood Claws and 1 Swiftclaw pack
2 units of Long Fangs- Actually, have these guys finished!

The Apocalypse formation adds to the above, with the following necessary units:
1 Wolf Priest
1 Rune Priest- Probably Longspear. Pics to follow
3+ Dreadnoughts- Baremund Beastbane, Erik Bloodfist and Siggfried Skulltaker

Additionally, the following can be taken:
0-1 Iron Priest- Hogni Halfman
0-2 Thunderwolf Cavalry- Won't be making them part of the Great Company, they'll all be in a Flanking Force (another Formation)
0-3 Fenrisian Wolf Packs- As with the Thunderwolves
0-3 Lone Wolves- Have to make them, need to fluff them out first

Also, Swiftclaws become 0-3, Grey Hunters become 5+ with no upper limit, Long Fangs become 2+ with no upper limit, and Blood Claws/ Skyclaws become 3+. Lucky I have a Skyclaw pack half-finished.

Looking at this, even in the little version of the Company I need a minimum 56 dudes. With how I'm building packs, it's going to be more like 119 Wolves, plus transports and other shenanigans. Then, once they're done, I'll have to add a few more bitz and bobs to upgrade them to the Apocalypse level. I'm thinking.... March, at the earliest. Then it's onto the other formations! Yahoo!

Anywho, good morning and goodnight!

Following the previous post, more writing!

Since these are Lost Companies, and not just a single Company, I have even more Space Wolves to paint!
One of these groups are The Winterborn, originally the 4th Great Company of the 6th Legiones Astartes, they were trapped in a weird part of the webway for a little while, aware of the passage of time but not actually aging. Most of them are a little bit mad...
They're a Siege Assault Vanguard list using Space Marines with Chapter Tactics: Carcharodons. This, I've already mentioned. They also double as a 30K Legion list. This is their lineup:

Arstan Winterborn, a converted Wolf Lord- Waiting on Forge World
Beowulf Ironbreaker, a Master of the Forge and Keeper of Relics, necessary given the old school stuff they'll have- Armenneus Valthex, Wolfed up. Waiting on Forge World
2 Iron Priests/ Techmarines- At least 1 will be the classic Iron Priest, the other probably a conversion. Need to name them too.
Blackwolf's Pack, an Honour Guard squad with Relic Blades- Work proceeds slowly

Torin Shieldbreaker- a Contemptor in a Lucius drop pod
Fafnir Drakesbane- a Contemptor-Mortis in a Lucius pod. If my skills are up to it, using the Alpha Legion Contemptor as a base
Winterwolf's Sons- a Sternguard squad. Thinking Mk IV armour, with some furry bitz and Legion combi-weapons. One of the completed Chapterhouse rhinos too.

Erik Bittertongue's Pack- a Tactical squad with Siege mantlets. In the Siege list you can give Tac squads huge shields, like the 30K Breacher squads. Gives them a reroll against shooting attacks and Bulky. Chaos Warrior/ Space Wolf mixed bitz
Skjor Snowblood's Pack- As above
Winterborn's Fangs- a fun little thing of the Carcharodons is their ability to take lightning claw assault termies as Troops. Mine will be in Cataphractii armour.
The Einherjar- 3 dreadnoughts, 2 Ironclad and 1 Siege with a Flamestorm cannon. These guys are actually done!
Skoll Suneater's Pack- Another tactical squad, without the shields. Run around in a Rhino.
Hadvar Bloodmane's Pack- another Siege Assault list special, basically an Assault Squad without jump packs but carrying combat shields, mounted in a Land Raider. The Land Raider's done.

Allfather's Hand- A Storm Eagle gunship, fun for carrying lots of guys and killing even more! Come on Forge World....
Morkai's Gaze- Fire Raptor gunship. Needs more guns...

Egil's Judgement- Relic Sicaran Tank, and one of the reasons I need a Keeper of Relics! Again, Forge World, but not yet ordered.
Foehammer- Achilles-pattern Land Raider. I'm working on it
Deathwolf- Relic Whirlwind Scorpius. Not yet ordered
The Hunters (needs a better name)- As with Dreadnoughts, Predators run around in squadrons in the Siege list. 2 Predators, a Relic Deimos with a Plasma Destroyer. All will be Deimos hulls.

Niddhogur- a Fellblade. Not yet ordered.

As you can see, my love for resin crack knows no bounds! One of the 'perks' of Australia, Forge World is kinda the cheaper option for minis... Ah well.

For your consideration, the Sergeant of Winterborn's Fangs. I'm planning to repaint the hand and lower shoulderpad grey, since I think it's too much red on the model atm. He also needs a head, some more Maxmini furs, and the grenade launcher the Cataphractii come with.

Also, been working on some of my other characters. I have a bad habit of making HQ choices without painting enough other units to use with them.

I've posted this guy before, but without explanation. He's Arnbjorn Redmoon, the Wolf Lord prior to Gunnar Redmoon to use the symbol of the Wolf of the Red Moon. His company was presumed destroyed after all contact was lost with them mid M41 battling Tyranids. I'm building him from Wulfrik the Wanderer, since it's the model with the most extraneous skulls I've ever seen!
The second pic is a nuncio-vox I converted for the Winterborn, and Arnbjorn's massive Frost Axe.

As always, comments/ questions/ criticisms welcome!

Also found some of my other Space Marine forces, and decided to build 2 different forces from them. I have more than enough warriors, from different chapters, to easily build a company and some. And I wonder why I used to be short of cash a lot of the time.... Damn plastic crack
The models that are clearly veterans- ornate armour, unusual weapons, etc- are being made into a combined arms force of warriors using the rules for a First Company, whilst the other more vanilla models are being made into what I'm calling The Dishonoured; sort of a forlorn hope/ foreign legion for Space Marines that have, in some way, dishonoured their chapter or themselves. They repaint their armour grey, keeping only their left shoulder pad, make an Oath of Moment detailing how they will regain their honour, and head off into the blue.
Without further ado, pics:

Back to 40K for now, but a randomish tangent from usual- Ogryns in all their glory!
My Jotunbrud (yo-tun-brood, in case you were wondering) are currently 2 strong, with another 4 to build. I could simply make 2 more Bullgryns and 2 bog-standard Ogryns... Or not. I searched Imperial Armour and old White Dwarf magazines, and came up with a shortlist of things that I could build instead:

Feral Ogryns- Like Ogres, but 40K. No guns, just hitty sticks
Plague Ogryns! Or not. Can't begin to see how they would fit with the army.
H-grade Servitors- Mechanically augmented, possibly vat-grown, lovely. Later.
Chaos Renegade Ogryn Berserkers- I need several! Unbound is fun...
Charonite Ogryns- What's a Charonite? They're a Heresy-era unit, a terror weapon left over from Old Night. Even the Imperium won't use them lightly. Carapace armour and souped-up power weapons for hands. Perfect!

Here's the final Minotaur of my first box, part-built as a Charonite. His right arm features a dreadnought hand, just as his left does. The armour will be grey/ green stuff, possibly power armour or maybe scout armour.

But I need your advice, dear Dakka: Which hand?
Also, does he need a mask?

Some more Space Wolves, mostly Winterborn. Added some wolfy bitz to the Land Raider Achilles to tie it more in with the army. They're mostly blu-tacked on while I paint them then I'll superglue them to it.
Also started on another side projects; the War Bears. They come from a planet that was one of the first settled by humans. Due to the interstellar distances, they miscalculated, overshooting their mark and voyaging deep into the outer rim of the galaxy. The crew, in suspended animation, slept on for centuries. They awoke only when the ships sensors detected a nearby habitable planet. When they discovered that they were not only off course but centuries out of time, blame for the fault was passed around, escalating to a civil war that destroyed their ship. The few survivors rebuilt on the planet below, forming tribes. Each tribe had a unique weapon or technology that distanced them from the others. For the Bear clan, this was genetic modification secrets that forged a human into a powerful, if misshapen, warrior; a War Bear as they came to be known.
They're similar to Thunder Warriors; big, strong, violent, and not as fast or as stable as Astartes, but they are incredibly tough. I'm thinking I'll use the rules for Ork Nobz for the warriors, with Warbosses as their Chieftains. I can explain their terrible BS as their having never held a proper firearm before.
The guy I've built is Deaton, their last Shaman and the only one to have ever undergone the War Bear transformation. He's a Wierdboy.

Did some more work on Arnbjorn Redmoon, fixing his cape into a furry one worthy of a Wolf Lord and also working on his pose. Pretty static, but them's the breaks. He still looks the part, particularly with his ridiculously large axe.
I think if I was to use him in an army, I'd probably use the Forgeworld rules for the Executioners High Mortiurge. That dude kicks butt!

Had a rethink on the Wolf Brothers, going back over the fluff and notes I'd penned for them, and came across a problem: They're huge! Beastmen Gors are well over the height of a Space Marine, and since I'd planned to use the rules for Khorne Cultists- Using the Lost and Damned from Apocalypse, of course- they were far too large!
Thankfully, my War Bears are supposed to be bigger than Space Marines, and their test model is made from a Bray Shaman anyway. Problem solved! The Wolf Brothers would be remade as War Bears, and I'd rebuild the Wolf Brothers. A box of Ungors later, and I have my first guy

I was planning to use Maxmini werewolf heads, but they're a bit big so I'm just removing the horns from the more humanoid Ungor heads. They're sorta mutated Wolf Brothers, so I think if fits
The bow on the test model will be swapped out for a las or auto pistol later, but I needed to get the pose right first. Also, Holgir Bearclaw is there because he's the Dark Apostle the formation requires. Fluff-wise he's the only Wolf Brother with his mind intact, more or less. He's still a mutant, though, hence why he covers his mouth- think deep sea fish teeth

Some more work, my first War Bear to start with. Beastman Gor, chaos warrior, some green stuff work. Size comparison to Deaton is good, as is the size beside a marine.
Also the third and final member of the Winterborn Einherjar. Was a furioso dread not so long ago
And, lastly, some Ungor shields I'm painting up for combat shields.

Short one for today- started greystuffing the Jotunbrud Charonite. Going to give him armour based off the space marine scout armour, but larger. Also went with the Blood Talons. Thinking I'll check the finished piece to see if he needs a face mask or not.
Also filled in the wedge at the back of my War Bear where I cut the Gor torso to give it a more upright stance, and started smoothing the thighs and transitioning them into the kneepad/ boot bitz. I'm going with a tactical exoskeleton look for the War Bear armour, similar to what you see on the COD: Advanced Warfare posters, with plate armour and chainmail over the top. The plate and mail is their traditional tribal armour, the exoskeleton comes from another tribe that aided them in seriously bloodying a Chaos attack force on their homeworld.
And I've decided to move away from the Ungor shields for my Winterborn assault marines, going to go with a more Norman rounded shield look.

Lastly, I'll leave you with some fluff I wrote about the War Bears. Pics below as usual, lemme know what you think!

"The Chaos marines of the Genitors warband won their first victories against the Bear clan at range, blasting its warriors with bolt and missile. Arrogantly, they thought them nothing more than abhumans, never dreaming they could meet their equals on such a backwater world. In this they were grievously wrong. Chaos Marines are genhanced demigods, elevated far above their birth race by ancient science. The War Bears were monsters, their alchemically hypertrophied frames taller and broader than an Astartes, with a far greater tolerance for pain and a limited capacity for regeneration. Only in their battle plate did the the Genitors outmass their foes, and the unholy strength of their corrupted wargear was matched by the muscle of the Urd tribals. When the smiths of the Ironblood Clan began to produce armour for their allies that could stay a bolt round, Genitor losses began to rapidly rise"

Got out the old chaos black spray and went a-hunting plastic men! Currently, 1 Krakenspawn, 2 assault centurions, a long fang, 3 honour guard, 2 skyclaws, 3 swiftclaws, 18 thralls and the last of the 3 Winterborn Einherjar are sitting blackly upon my desk. This week's target!
Also some pics. Will have more painted stuff soonish, the paint is drying on my Wolf Scouts and then they need washing... Should have pics of them tomorrow!

Back after a small hiatus with more techno-barbarian goodness!
Since I started on the War Bears, I've purchased the Ork codex to have a true and proper look at their army list and decided to work on a few additions; some Mek gunz, Lootas, Shoota Boyz, and of course mega armour. Sticking with the theme I started with the original War Bear armour they're built of spare necron bitz with beastman, chaos warrior and grey stuff to complete the mix.
Many Space Wolves painted, so a few pics of them too. Onwards to visual evidence!

As always, let me know what you think!

Many things techno-barbarian for you today! You've seen the War Bears, but they were only one of the seven tribes of Urd. One of the others were the Iron Blood clan, possessed of advanced technology jealously guarded from the other tribes. Whilst the Bear tribe fought with swords and plate-mail, the Iron Blood wielded lasers and wore powered armour.
This is a guy I just came up with; Jyrik. A Journeyman crafter of the Iron Blood, he broke tradition and invented something new; force field generators and a suit to mount it.
In game terms he's an Ork Big Mek with mega armour and a kustom forcefield. Probably Da Finkin Kap too.
Just some WIP shots of his torso for now, he needs a lot of green/ grey stuff work and plasticard gubbins, not to mention legs and a head, before he's ready

Hey guys, I'm back!
Well, after a couple of months without internet- damn you, Telstra!- I have returned from the pretechnology wasteland
Although, it was nice and quiet there... It's kind of awesome switching facebook off for a loooonng time.... I digress

Recieved a mighty haul from Forgeworld the other day- a Contemptor, 10 Cataphractii terminators, a trio of Mk1 Predators, a Space Wolf venerable dreadnought, legion seeker squad and legion combi weapons, legion praetors, and Lufgt Huron. All this allowed me to make some serious inroads into finishing my Winterborn!

Also been working hard on the War Bears, started down a new path with them using Bestigors not Gors as the base; results are promising!

And, as always, let me know what you think! (please...)

For those of you seeking Space Wolves, here they are!
Arstan Winterborn, Lord of the Company of the Winterborn, was built from a Legion Praetor with Lufgt Huron's ghost razors, a Space Wolf chainfist and Murderfang's head. His fur will be repainted to a darker colour soon, it doesn't stand out enough
Also Erik Firewolf, who I built as a bit of fun and a chance to use Huron's flamer hand; he counts as Vulkan He'stan (I can hear the cries of Heresy! already..
Also some pics of the Contemptor-Mortis the Winterborn will be getting, the Honour Guard squad with Banner of the Emperor Ascendant, some Salamander Vanguard Veterans and my most recent Jotunbrud

On his trial of Morkai he killed a frost wyrm, whose skull he still bears, and during a campaign on an Exodite world he was critically injured by an Exodite dragon. He wears its hide as proof.
Nearly finished Winterborn's Fangs, my terminator squad, all in customised cataphractii armour

Thoughts on this one, if you please:

The Winterborn have a second Contemptor on the way, to be named Torin Shieldbreaker. Once a bloody-handed reaver of Fenris, now a bloody-handed reaver of the 6th legion, I'm thinking I might make him out of the Death Guard contemptor, or perhaps the Iron Warrior one, to represent extra armour, with a siege claw from a Decimator Daemon Engine and a scratch-built chainfist like the one on the Cerastus Knight Acheron.

What do you reckon?

Working on the Wolf Priest, and found some Wargames Factory Samurai. Not sure what I'll do with them, just yet.
Also started repainting my Wood Elf army that I started back in '02, using a White Dwarf list. The core units back then were Archers and Spearmen, and over the few incarnations of the army book my Archers have become Glade Guard, while my Spearmen ave become Eternal Guard, possibly the most useful Elven core unit in the current run of Army Books. Thinking of later branching out into an Army of the Eternity King, just to add some heavy armour and such to the list. Posting a pic of the old paint scheme and (lack of) skill, and a newer attempt. Anyway... On to pics!

As promised, more!

One of the coolest (I thought) units in the old Wood Elf army book were the Alter Kindred, elves who had melded with an aspect of nature and taken on animal traits. Something like good beastmen. Unfortunately you could only make individual characters part of this kindred, but I always planned to do a unit of cavalry as centaur-elves. With the new army book, that option is no longer present.... But Forgeworld in their wisdom has provided me an out!
In the Monstrous Arcanum book there's an entry for Bull Centaur Renders, nasty Chaos Dwarf/ bull hybrids. I've decided to Elf that up a bit...

Also, received some Ebay goodness in the form of the original Wulfen models from the 13th Black Crusade days. Adding them to a few conversions to make some Death Company for unbound 40K games

So a productive night building and painting!
Just started a d20 roleplaying game, post-apocalypse setting, and converted some of the characters for that; everything from a half-giant in plate armour to a cowgirl with a powerfist!
Also painted a Reaper Bones Storm Giant as a Jotun to go with my growing, unofficial, non-Chaos Norse army for WHFB
A Forgeworld dreadnought and a Storm Raven received some brush love too, alongside my test 'wolf for a new way to paint World Eaters colours
Lasltly, some spirit dogs for my Elves; thinking I might use the rules for Wolf Rats for them

Thanks, I didn't recognise those heads were in that kit.

How is the size of those wargames factory heads compared to GW models? Would they look small on a marine or guard body?

The Lost Companies of Jorek Greatwolf- Yet more Rune Priests @ 2015/05/30 04:45:09

Post by: Kurnost

Zywus, unfortunately they're too small for either Marine or Guard. They're thinner and smaller than any GW 40K heads, 'true' 28mmm rather than heroic scale.
That being said the survivor models actually make decent Guard equivalents, IMO

Been hard at work but managed to complete very little, lots of ink washes that need to dry

On the table atm we have a trio of Ents, an Arachnarok spider, a giant I'm in the process of armouring, a Zoat, a Truthsayer, 3 Dragons including the skeletal one I posted earlier, a Carnosaur, an old Hydra, a Chimera, a Manticore, a Ghorgon, 2 Griffons and an Arcane Phoenix. The blending on the phoenix is a pain! I'm trying to match the picture in Monstrous Arcanum, to no avail.

I also have a kitbashed Loremaster, and some Dark Riders and a Tirranoc Chariot for my Elves, and the Winterborn Honour Guard is 80% painted, although no bases done yet, and a greenstuff and bitz dragon I still haven't finished building

Anyone with any tips on how to blend the colours of the Phoenix, please let me know

Zywus, unfortunately they're too small for either Marine or Guard. They're thinner and smaller than any GW 40K heads, 'true' 28mmm rather than heroic scale.
That being said the survivor models actually make decent Guard equivalents, IMO

Ah, I suspected the heads would be incompatible. The models sure are nice though. I'll probably get a box if I can find them locally (International shipping costs is murderous from WGF themselves).

Really like that dragon, though the pics are a bit hard to make out. I think you need to photo it against a less busy background. The head reminds me of the dragon skull on the GW giant sprue. Is it that bit with sculpted scales of is it from an existing dragon?

Zywus, the head is the spare from the High Elf dragon kit with some Dryad bits for horns/ branches

Took some new photos of the dragon, and some background

He's a dragon found in the Deepwoods, lair of all kinds of unpleasant forest spirit-y things. One of the spirits in there took over the body of a fallen green dragon, rebuilding the shattered skeleton with tree and plant life, bound together by magic
I built him from spare bits and lots of green stuff, with Balrog wings. I'm hoping I can resurrect the model, because I really don't want to restart the model

On to pics!

Evening all! It's bloody cold, perfect weather for hobby!
Dug out some wizards, all for the Elves of course; a Zoat, a few High Elves and a converted Alter Elf/ Brayshaman kinda dude
Also added to my dragon collection with a rendition of Asarnil the Dragonlord. So many flying creatures! My desk resembles a prehistoric landing pad....
Also working on an Incarnate Elemental of Death, and a rethink of my Deepwoods dragon

And for those who thought I'd forgotten the Wolves, a Predator Infernus on the build, with additional armour, a new front end and a converted driver!

Enjoy!

Back again! (people run screaming)

Still working on the Fintmancha rebuild, added some bitz just need to build the base and body, and I hit on an el cheapo build for a chaos dragon using spare parts, I figure if the mages of my Elves can bind creatures they'd have no issue sending a chaos beastie to die for them

Also some WIP shots of the Predator Infernus for your viewing pleasure, some of the Krakenspawn, now with handler, and some energetic Fenrisian wolves dodging city terrain

Enjoy!

Pretty much a continuation of the earlier WIP post, with updated pics
More Wulfen, an old Mythicast Thunderwolf from long-pre-GW Thunderwolves (and looks it), another Lazarus robot for the Taghmata Hvergelmir and some updated pics of the Centurions and Harkon Frostmourne
Particularly happy with Frostmourne, since this is his second incarnation and I started that over a year ago, it's nice to have him nearly finished
Also, basing the Krakenspawn before I paint him (her? It?) and the gutsy space wolf goad

Last one for the night (morning...)
Briring, one of my Thunderwolf Cavalry, has had so many Thunderwolves die on him that the Iron Priests have built him a mechanical version
So far, apart from the juggernaut, there's bitz from the Dwarf gyrocopter, Skaven hell pit abomination and stormfiends, a space marine backpack vent and a Sicarian computer monitor in there... and I haven't started to convert the front legs (because they're in the black hole I call an office... somewhere...)
Anywho, enjoy and good night

Started the painting on the Krakenspawn, just flat colours for now. More updates as they become available

Went back over my army list and realsied I don't have the transports for my footsloggers, so I've been working on a couple of Rhino's, one for Greywolf's Pack and the other, probably, going to the Ulfwere.
Greywolf's boys took theirs from a chaos warband, probably Iron Warriors, whilst the Ulfwere were given theirs after defending a shrine world.

Kitbashed a gun of some sort last night, thinking I'll use it as a conversion beamer on a relic predator.

Sprayed Greywolf's rhino and started work on the additional plasticard armour for the Ulfwere's relic rhino, but no pics yet
Have revisited my old Land Raider Ares and finally worked out how to fit the frontal dozer blade using spare Defiler bits
More space wolves on the build, and the thunderwolf cavalry riders almost done, some pics of that by monday

Some progress on packs and such; Norring Ork-smiter's Grey Hunters assembled to a paintable level! Strangely difficult to find that Chaos/ Imperial blaance whilst sleep deprived
Also wrote an army list for some Wolfbrother Marines, using the Chaos codex. Needed to fill points so I chose appropriate wargear, named him, then made a model!

Should really post some new stuff, but it's late and it's not easily available... So some more work in progress!
Some of the Grey Hunters from Norring Ork-Smiter's Pack; one with a plasma pistol, another with a powerfist, a bolter and chainsword bloke and the ubiquitous standard bearer
I've been told the plasma pistol Grey Hunter looks too Khornate. Might swap a weapon or something.
Also some work on Gemin Sandwalker, of the Wolfbrothers, and one of several Wolfbrother Initiate packs I'm working on. Chaos Cultists, using a mix of Ungor, Skaven, Cadian and Goblin plastics (pretty much whatever I wasn't using for something else) All packs will be 35 strong. Need to greenstuff the skaven heads to look more lupine, and fix the hooves on the ungors to be clawed feet. Fair bit of work.

As always, comments/ criticisms/ request for biscuit recipes welcome!

Goodnight

I'm building Hekate as a Redeemer, but it's not technically a land raider
It was recovered from a technologically advanced, noncompliant world by the Lost Companies, tested, and found to fulfill a similar role to the Redeemer
That's my fluff anyway
So I thought, since it's running non-standard tracks and hull bitz anyway, and has stormfiend miniguns in place of assault cannons, why not modify the flamestorm cannons too
I'm thinking of taking the warpfire throwers off the Boneripper model cluttering up my office (the new one) and mounting them in the sponsons
Probably mount the smaller ones on top of the bigger ones to fill space

I've included some (bad) pictures to give you the basic idea

Thoughts?

Kurnost's "Can't sleep so I built a miniature" hour is here again!
First, some fluff:

Whilst the Bear clan of Urd bore the brunt of fighting the Genitors Chaos Marines, the forge-fathers of the Iron Blood clan struggled to overcome their foe's technological advantage. They were partially successful with the Iron Fist power suits, but these armours were cumbersome, heavy and tiring to wear. It was 35 years before they were able to craft an armour nearly as resilient as the tainted power armour of their foes, by which time it was too late to drastically alter the course of the war. Whilst these advanced armour suits were given priority in the evacuation of Urd, they number barely a score of the hundreds of suits of armour rrecovered from the doomed world.

And on to the pics!
There's Necron, Stormcast, Dwarf and AdMech bitz on this guy, quite happy with him!

Post by: KernelTerror

Cool ideas with this skaven parts, they definitely have mechanicus aspect to them, so I think the forgefather story works well with those (A bit rusty on my SW fluff though). I just am unsure about the blue round armor platings on them, not sure they fit with the square Land Raider, you'd need to try them on I guess !

And hell yeah more sigmarine, looking good !

Hello dakka!
Some more (slow) progress on the Warbears; Star Breakers!
Specially trained Warbears in advanced armour, wielding star breaker mauls, these were the final word in Star Warrior (Chaos) slaying
Unfortunately, by the time they were ready the war for Urd was already lost. They only fought once, in Ainethach's strike against the Genitors' leadership, before being evacuated from Urd

Morning Dakkka!

Firstly, evildrcheese, thanks for the kind words! Good to know you like. I'm finding the krakenspawn to be a centrepiece which is odd since I basically saw the model on the shelf and thought "I must have this"
Thinking of a separate force possibly using the Nid codex full of similar beasties- krakenspawn, frost giant hive tyrants, dragon-riding space wolves as nid flyers, stonehorn carnifexes etc. But later. Later....

For this morning, been working on the company. Dug the whole thing out, went over the list and found the missing bits, currently 45 wolves, 23 bikers and several transports. The Companies are deployed on my kitchen table so I don't forget about them

Also worked on filling up units, have a Wolf Guard or two and some Long Fangs for you

Son of a Necromundan guardswoman and a Muricanth pilot, T’garran has been with the Lost Companies from birth. His time as a Wolfbrother lasted a mere two decades before injury forced his internment in a dreadnought. The chassis he pilots is, more properly, an H-grade servitor chassis, but it performs the same life-support functions as a Dreadnought and mounts two hardpoint heavy weapons with which T’garran dominates the battlefield.

Bonrod’s home was a prosperous human world that was run by the survivors of a Rogue Trader family. When the Space Marines of the Executioners Chapter contacted the still-loyal enclave, they declared them secessionists and made savage war upon them, finally destroying them outright. Bonrod and a few other survivors fled blindly into the Warp aboard a damaged warship and were recovered by the Lost Companies. Despite becoming a Space Marine himself, Bonrod’s hatred of the killers of his world has never abated. The Contemptor chassis he claims is outfitted with unique, advanced Medicae systems and was formerly used by an Inquisitor Lord to prolong his own life.

Scut was recruited from a war-torn feudal world and quickly rose through the ranks of the Wolfbrothers, leading many packs in battle. In life, his preferred weapon was a heavy chainsword salvaged from the aftermath of a chaos attack. As a dreadnought, his clawed fists lay waste to his foe. He takes his name from his tendency to seize his enemies up in his hands and tear them asunder, an effective and terrifying method to despatch traitor Astartes.

The native shaman of Itrium were called Storm-Shepherds for it was only they who could calm the raging lightning storms that might otherwise start forest fires that could render whole tribal lands into little more than charred ruins. When The Purge came, the Storm-Shepherds suffered many losses but those who survived gained great power- when wounded, they found they could reform their bodies, calling upon the Wolf Within to save them.

Larger, stronger and far smarter than a normal Wulfen of the Wolfbrothers chapter, the Ward-Wulfen are one of Felessan’s creations- indeed, he is often accompanied by a pair of them.

Respectively, Anakatis Kul Blade Slave, Gal Vorbak Dark Brethrenw power sword and Gal Vorbak Dark Martyr with power maul. All using Legiones Astartes Word Bearers special rules

(Yeah, I know, 30K. But the Gal Vobak are soooooooo cooooool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

A commander of a score of Wolfbrothers, Truvor and his brothers ambushed an Iron Warriors Siege Terminator squad on the surface of Cadia. Despite losing many of their brothers to the savage and resilient foe, Truvor’s pack triumphed, taking the shattered terminator armour as trophies. The Iron Priests, impressed by the feat, repaired many of these suits, and those who lacked armour were outfitted from the Lost Companies armouries, making Truvor the first commander of a Terminator pack in the Wolfbrothers.

As it stands, Truvor is an exercise in using up bitz. Cataphractii terminator, dreadknight, dreadnought, Dwarf gyrocopter, space marine and third party fur bitz thus far, and probably some ork stuff too by the time I'm done

>>Chaos Terminator champion, Mark of Tzeentch (hence why the cataphractii look), power sword, combi-bolter, gift of mutation- Blademaster (WS5)<<

Painting Scut Foesplitter, thought I'd show off the colour scheme. It's pretty dark, like the old Grey Knights. Scut doesn't have any furs but these will be white. Lenses/ scanners same blue as the Space Wolves, and brass edging.
Also, since I'm using the Chaos rules for some of the Wolfbrother units, I've made a counts-as daemon prince for the Dark Apotheosis result. He's a Frostgrave greater demon with minotaur hands and weapons. He'll have a wolfy head, of course

Morning all (yes, it's afternoon here but shift work) just put together some more Wolfbrothers to fit various places and times in the life of the young Chapter.
First up, a Wulfen from the 3rd generation of Wolfbrothers. The first generation was the original successor Chapter that was destroyed, the second generation were the enhanced humans Inquisitor Rathmine created in his insanity, from where Holgir Bearclaw arose, and the third generation were Holgir's first attempts to fix Rathmine's work. Most are Wulfen.
With him a group of (somehow) stable Wolfbrothers crewing a (chaos) rapier laser destroyer.
From the third generation and also somewhat sane, The Herald of Truvor. Chaos Terminator with powerfist, combi-bolter eventually and Icon of Flame
Lastly, some sicth-generation Thegns.

To go with my Wolfbrothers, some heavy support in the form of a chaos rapier carrier with ectoplasma cannon, in this case representing a modified plasma cannon created by the Taghmata Hvergelmir and tested by the Wolfbrothers, who sorely lack equipment (at least at this time.....)

Additionally, an Iron Priest of the Wolfbrothers, of the 5th generation, wielding a Conversion Beamer. As he's been trained by the Taghmata Hvergelmir and not on Mars, his armour will be the tattered black and red of the Taghmata, with the iron wolf's head shoulder pad of his Chapter (shoulder pads coming soon.... As soon as Australia Post do their job....)

Started work on a magos-Malagra for my Taghmata force. Malagra are the tech-assassins, nasty buggers. This one is called Renard, and due to his wargear he's a bit bigger than most. He's mostly a marine Centurion with some 3rd party shoulder pads and a Khador Berserker Warjack powerplant. As well as making it a pain to get him onto a base, it'll provide a nice place to position the staggering amount of weapons and items this dude has

Lemme know what you think of Monsieur Renard!

Scrounging around the internet I came across some not too crazy fan rules for Khorne Berserkers on juggernauts and decided I'd add a squad to my Wofbrothers (who are predominantly Khornate chaos)
So here's the mounts, 1 have 2 of each sculpt, so I won't do a group[ shot until they're all finished. The last model has the colour scheme I'm going for, almost albino wolves with dark armour and riders

Working on a new unit! They're called Stormblood Thralls, and they are drawn from those aspirants who failed to become Space Wolves (and survived). Tough, well-trained and highly experienced, Stormblood units support the astartes in engagements where the full force of the Great Company cannot be brought to bear. They have limited genetic and cybernetic enhancement.
I'm not sure what to play them as just yet, but Dark Eldar Wracks has been suggested.
I made them from Khorne Bloodbound with spare Space Wolf and Dwarf bits

First off, thanks to everyone for the views, suggestions and comments

Way back on page 1 I introduced Holgir Bearclaw, the Keeper. He's the leader of the Wolfbrothers, and the custodian of their more dangerous members hence the title, The Keeper. Rules-wise he's a Dark Apostle with multiple boons and the Slaughterer's Horns, Daemonheart and Crozius of the Dark Covenant from the Crimson Slaughter codex. Looking at the model I was using, however, he doesn't really fit. He's tiny, and just looks like a guy in power armour. So I remade him. Some Sternguard and Wulfen bitz, an Empire Knights banner top and the head from the original miniature, and he was reborn! Still haven't finished the painting, but let me know what you think.

Kolvjon, called the Lord of Beasts for the composition of his Company, is Holgir's first successful space marine. Whilst he is almost entirely Wulfen, he retains enough will to accept orders and act upon them, and he leads his Company as an alpha beast might, always to the fore, his blade red with the blood of the foe. The beast he rides was a gift from Johran Redbeard, Huntmaster of the Wild Hunt, after Kolvjon saved his life.

Much later, when the Wolfbrother genome had been stabilised, Johran forged more beasts in the same vein as the one Kolvjon rode, giving the Wolfbrothers their first cavalry unit

Morning all!
A while back I bought a mixed bag of old minis from a friend who was getting rid of his stuff. Among the various randomness in there- Ogres in Empire uniforms, Viydaggs, banshees and undead, dragons and many, many daemon/ monster things, was this guy.
I have no idea what it was originally supposed to be, but for now I'm using it as a Dark Mechanicus spawn; some warped daemon-cyborg-thing they throw at their foes

If anyone has any clue what it was or where it came from, I'd love to know

Enjoy!

Dakka, I feel I made a terribly decision this morning.... I got all of my models out and started counting! Ye gods....

Over 200 Space Wolves, nearly 100 Wolfbrothers, assorted gribblies, at least 4 true 28mm historical/fantasy armies, warhammer fantasy Bretonnians, Elves, Dwarves and Empire, 40K orks and more counts-as forces, primarily of the 30K Militia/Cults list than I can safely poke a stick at... and not a single finished army in sight!

So I shall be expanding! More blogs for each army or force, updated as I (slowly) go.... So no more randomness on this blog, just 13th company-ish Space Wolves

Johran Redbeard, Huntmaster of the Lost Companies, is a powerful warrior possessed of incredibly acute senses.

His greatest skills do not lie on the field of battle, but rather in a laboratory, for Johran is the chief geneticist of the Lost Companies. Through his tireless efforts the companies are supplied with wolves, riding creatures of all forms,

Jotunbrud for combat and heavy labour

And even stranger beasts, primarily as weapons

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Some more love for the Wild Hunt- a big daddy Jotunbrud

I'm thinking of running Tyranids (don't recall if I mentioned that earlier...) to represent the weird variety of beasties the Wild Hunt has. Let me know your thoughts, or an alternative army I could use!

Also, some Swiftclaws with a difference! I have 3 packs of Swiftclaws in Great Company Jorek; Ingmar's Stormriders, Lassnr Thane-Seeker's Pack and Korst's Windriders. The Windriders use reconditioned jetbikes (if you're wondering how, an Iron Priest scrapped a heavily damaged Land Speeder and stuck the grav plates on a bike)

Korst started life as a Wolf Priest on bike, but he'll be getting a slight rebuild with power fist and shield. The rest of the squad will be getting the chaos skull helms too

Thanks KernelTerror and evildrcheese!

For your viewing pleasure (or not), more Wild Hunt!

The Bladebringer Troll gene-beast is bred for war, and arose when the ship of the Wild Hunt found itself alone in space and beset by Chaos attackers. Johran and his Wolf Priests frantically forged creatures to defend their ship, unwilling to spend the lives of their few battle-brothers until absolutely necessary.
In form, the Bladebringer is almost entirely troll with a small amount of human DNA. They speak halting Fenrisian Jurvik, and can understand simple instructions and plans. The pelts they once grew have been modified, and in place of hair they grow a synthetic crystalline fibre that grows into hard scales and is capable of turning lasfire without issue. Additionally, when gathered, their scales can be plasma baked to an incredible toughness and are used to forge weapons and armour.
In battle, these beasts rely on animal cunning, and their bloated forms are capable of swift rushes over short distances. The same material that armours them also forms their claws, and a swipe of their over-long arms can tear a man in two

Automatically Appended Next Post:
New army! (everyone else groans...)
This guy a a Cronos Parasite Engine

Plus this guy as an Haemonculus

And these guys as Wracks

Makes a lovely Scarlet Epicureans formation from the Haemonculus Covens book!

Also, been working on my jetbikes, removed the possessed-looking bits from them. They might be desperate for wargear and weapons, but they wouldn't use possessed things. Stripping the bikes and riders, repainting them and then they'll be up too

The Wolf Guard Yngling, called The Grim for his terse and unforgiving demeanor, was a celebrated hunter even before he joined the ranks of the Sky Warriors. Fighting across the Sea of Stars, Yngling rose swiftly through the ranks, his hunter's instincts serving him well on the battlefield. Now an old- some would say ancient- warrior, Yngling still fights at the forefront of the battle, seeking worthy prey for his blade and bolter. Be they rampaging Tyranid, brutal Ork, Wraith-Construct or the darkest of traitors and mutants, once Yngling has their scent they will not live overlong

Kurgan Blackclaw owes fealty to Vorten Stormhand, a young and brash warrior. For all his bravado, however, Vorten is no fool- he trusts his Wolf Guard as few others do. Blackclaw is particularly trusted, and Stormhand has given into his care a pack of Blood Claws- the future of his company. It is Blackclaw's honour that he has never been found wanting in his Lord's eyes, and his pack regularly leads the charge.

From the Space Wolves codex:

"The dark tunnles that twist and wind through the mountain's heart are prowled by numberless thralls and allies of the Space Wolves. These thralls may be man, wolf, machine or a horrible fusion of all three, but even though many are terrible to behold they are each noble of purpose."

Here's my counts-as Cyberwolves, part man, part machine and part wolf. the FLGS had a sale on the old metal Centigor models

Still more to do, including sorting out their other 3 siblings, but I'll get to it.... eventually

While the Wolf Guard Yngling commands one of the smallest divisions of the Lost Companies, his forces have an impressive combat record. Each is a veteran with decades of experience, and all are armed and equipped for the most brutal and savage of warzones imaginable. More than a third of the terminator-armoured warriors in the whole Lost Companies belong to Yngling's company.

As promised, Yngling's Pack! I thought I'd finished these guys, but not so much... ah well. I'm going to repaint all the Loyalist bolters red, to match Yngling's, and need to assemble their transports too

The gene-template for these creatures has been long held by the Wolf Priests of the Space Wolves, who use the beasts for simple labour. Intensely strong and resilient, they are of low intelligence, capable of performing simple manual tasks and little more. On occasion they accompany packs of Fenrisian Wolves or Iron Priests into battle.

Finished the Heralds of the Great Wolf formation for my Great Company, and of course they're the Heralds of Greatwolf. Radd Ingolsson, Wolf Priest; Frald Snowson, Rune Priest; and Hogni Halfman, Thunderwolf-mounted Iron Priest.

No pics of Hogni yet, but here's Radd Ingolsson, Wolf Priest of the Lost Companies and my first ever counts-as Cataphractii terminator (I've had this model a while). His ornate bolter represents The Bite of Fenris relic.

And Frald Snowson, Rune Priest of the Lost Companies and former commander of the Moonborn Company

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Alvring, Lone Wolf with Combi-Plasma and Storm Shield

Alvring's armour, in common with all the Lost Companies Wolves, has been crudely repaired by the wearer. The blackened plates were taken from defeated Black Legionnaires fighting at the Cadian Gate. His combi-plasma gun was taken from an Imperial Fist veteran fallen in the same conflict. According to Fenrisian beliefs, such weapons recovered from dead friends and allies are wight-gifts, and are believed to be a gift from the soul of the departed warrior to aid those still fighting. Following these beliefs, Alvring is oath-bound to do nothing to bring dishonour or shame upon the weapon or its former bearer, and to return it to that mans kin when he has no further use of it. In practise this means he will endeavour to return the gun to the Imperial Fists, and if possible to the captain of the former bearer's Company. The oath paper affixed to his gauntlet records this oath, and the name and company of the fallen Imperial Fist. Aside from this token, Alvring's armour bears little decoration; as a Lone Wolf he has stipped his armour of pack and company markings

Thanks Warboss_Waaazag, and welcome

In the aftermath of the 13th Black Crusade the Lost Companies, having suffered incredible casualties defending the Cadian Gate, retired from Imperial space to replenish their strength. They discovered a system of nine habitable worlds orbiting a binary star, and a mineral-rich asteroid belt that provided a natural shield to the system. Evidence of previous Imperial settlement was abundant, from the ruined defences found on many asteroids and most planets to the debased human populations of 6 of the planets. While they were portioning out the system to the respective factions, a massive force of the Steel Brethren Chaos warband assaulted them. The Wolfbrothers took the brunt of the fighting, alongside Urd Clansmen and Taghmata Hvergelmir detachments. The battles raged for nearly a century, but finally the Steel Brethren were repelled. To counter such aggression in the future, a dedicated force of warriors was formed. Known as the Wolf Shield, it was composed of veteran Space Wolves and was equipped to the highest standards the Taghmata Hvergelmir could craft.

These are my first Wolf Shield warriors; terminators armoured in highly advanced Tartaros pattern armour. I plan for the entire Wolf Shield, however large it might (will) grow, to be armoured in either Mk IV or Tartaros armour.
Rules-wise, I'm using the Archangels Orbital Intervention force for my Terminators, since the idea of them teleporting in and unleashing hell as they re-appear is just amazing

So, looking back through the old 13th Company stuff I have, I came across an old Apocalypse formation, Sternhammer's Wulfen Guard. Basically, a Wolf Priest and a number of Wulfen packs. I felt that was necessary, given you can now get Wulfen packs once more.

So, Champions of Fenris detachment that gives me 8 Elites slots full of Wulfen of course, with Wolf Priests to lead. The leader of this force will be Kodlak Sternhammer, built off the collector's edition Chaplain and wearing the Armour of Asvald Stromwrack. Pics to follow, with a full army list too

Post by: Kurnost

Hey EDC, there was indeed. I can't find the datasheet online anymore, so I'll write it out:

The legend of the 13th Company of the Space Wolves is one never told outside of the Chapter itself. Even then, it is only whispered in private, lest the young Blood Claws overhear lore not meant for their ears.
The 13th Company of the Space Wolves Legion is said to have fought at the forefront of the greatest battles of the Horus Heresy. Every brother of the Legion bore the mark of the Canis Helix- the beast that lurks within every Space Wolf. In the warriors of the 13th Company however, the mark was fully manifest, turning the noble brethren into slavering beasts on the eve of battle. At the height of the terrible conflict, the entire company disappeared, pursuing, it is said, some foe they would hunt until the end of time, rather than allow it to escape.
After the heresy, the 13th Company passed into dim legend. The Canis Helix remained the source of the Chapter's ferociousness, yet was never as fully manifest as it was in the 13th Company. In recent times the legend of the 13th Company has resurfaced. Tales have been told of a band of savage warriors, wearing the grey armour of the second legion, yet supplemented by fragments of armour torn from the bodies of fallen Chaos Space Marines. This band has been seen to emerge as from nowhere upon the field of battle, falling upon the servants of the Ruinous Powers with savage ferocity. They are led by a mighty warrior-priest, named the Sternhammer by the Imperium's troops, an individual reportedly able to control the beasts in combat, though barely. After each battle, the band has disappeared before stunned Imperial forces could make contact. Many have reported being glad of this fact, for the beasts appeared as ready to attack them as the enemy.
None can say whether this band truly is some vestige of the long-lost 13th Company, or even if it is the same band that has been seen in each instance. Yet, where the forces of the Imperium are hard-pressed by the Great Enemy, there too may the mournful howls of the Wulfen pierce the night, shilling the hearts if friend and foe alike

To add to that wall of text, some fluff of my own:

The title of Sternhammer is grant to the Wolf Priest entrusted with the stewardship of the Lost Companies'Wulfen. Originally the sobriquet of the Wolf Priest Gonnar Donnarson of the 13th Company, the title, along with Donnarson;s signature weapon, were passed to Donnarson's chosen successor upon his death. He, in turn, passed the relic and title onto his successor, and so on until the present encumbent, Kodlak Sternhammer, the fifth to bear the title, The list of Sternhammers is as follows:

Gonnar Donnarson: High Wolf Priest of the 13th Company during the Great Crusade, Donnarson was known as Sternhammer for his grim visage and the short-handled power hammer he wielded in war. Donnarson accompanied the 13th Company to Prospero, and was sent by Russ to harry the traitor Thousand Sons into the Warp. He was mortally wounded by a daemon prince of Tzeentch and his body carried from the field by his Wolf Guard. His bones are interred in the deepest crypts of Hjerim; the Rogue Trader ship that serves as the base of operations for the Wulfen Guard.

Jon Crowfeast: A Wolf Priest only a few years junior to Donnarson, Jon was singled out by the High Wolf Priest for his ability to control and direct the fury of the Wulfen. He served as Sternhammer for over 2 centuries following Donnarson's death, outliving 3 proteges. He was shot down defending a bastion against Rubric Marines, and the recovery of his body took many years and no few great feats to achieve. His bones are interred in Hjerim's cryots alongside his mentor.

Alvaresh Godspite: The thrid Sternhammer was the first to not be drawn from the 13th Company, instead coming from a lost Company. A brash and arrogant individual, he held the post for only a few years before before he was slain by a lord of Khorne. His armour and weapons were recovered, but his skull is still held by the Khornate champion. Many packs seek its return.

Idolaf Skywolfr: The fourth Sternhammer was from the 13th Company,. and was recovered from an unnamed daemon world. Many of his packmates had been slain by the daemon world's inhabitants, and only the arrival of Jorek Greatwolf and his forces ensured the survival of the remaining Space Wolves. Idolaf knew Jorek of old, when the latter had been but a Blood Claw, and it was on his urging that Idolaf took up the vacant mantle of Sternhammer. Uniquely, Idolaf did not die before passing on the title, and indeed still serves the Wulfen Guard, but his protege Kodlak had greater control over the Wulfen than he so he stepped down. Idolaf's presence has been noted to increase the aggression of Wulfen and Space Wolf alike, and assaults led by him are nigh impossible to defend against.

Kodlak the Hunter: The current Sternhammer possesses many of the qualities that first earned Donnarson his name, and the Wulfen both respect and fear their gruff keeper.
Kodlak once led massed assaults of Lost Company Wulfen, but when the Space Wolves Chapter gifted some of the recovered 13th Company to Jorek's Lost Companies he took personal command of them, and now only deploys alongside these mutant brothers
.

And for your viewing pleasure, Idolaf Skywolf

He needs a dust and rebase, and possibly a touch-up. I built him to use as Astorath the Grim back in 5th ed, planning a Death Company army of converted Wulfen that I never got around to. With the new Lost Brotherhood force in Angel's Blade, I feel it's time Idolaf Skywolf was re-introduced to the battlefields of the far future

Also, Kodlak the Hunter, the leader of my current Champions of Fenris Wulfen force. He's a Wolf Priest with the Armour of Asvald Stormwrack.

Also, to aid Idolaf Skywolf in controlling the Wulfen Guard, he has taken to deploying his protege's en masse, each given charge of a squad or so of Wulfen brothers. These nascent warriors are not truly Wolf Priests, and are called by Idolaf his War Priests. THis young warrior, once a Skyclaw, wears ornate relic armour as reward for some great deed.
In-game, he counts as a Death Company Chaplain with the Reliquary Armour relic.

I'm going to add some more bitz to it, to represent hasty battlefield repairs. Most of these will be spare chaos vehicle sprue bits. I'm not sure, yet, whether to put it with the Wulfen Guard (Blood Angels rules), the Bone Gnawers of Arnbjorn Red Moon (Chapter Tactics: Executioners) or the Firewolves of Erik Firewolf (Chapter Tactics: Salamanders)

Thanks Shasó! It is pretty odd. I have 2 of them. I'll post some pics of my entire daemons force a bit later

A new kitbash I came up with today (when I should really be focused on finishing existing projects) is a Grotesque for my Stormblood Thralls force. They're a Haemonculus Coven, rules-wise; with Khorne Bloodbound standing in for Wracks (Genetically engineered hyper-resilient Thralls). For their Grotesques I was stumped for a bit, but the head of a Fyreslayer on the body of an Orruk Brute seems sufficiently feral and weird and fits in with the look of the Talos/ Cronos engines which are Minotaur or Stormvermin bodies with Ogre heads. The pic's a bit out of focus, but you should get the general idea

Questions/ comments/ thoughts/ suggestions/ free puppies welcome!

Some more work; a Grotesque with Flesh Gauntlet and Close Combat Weapon, and an Aberration with Close Combat Weapon and (soon) Agoniser

Yeah Shasó, they certainly do! I need 20 of them... or thereabouts... Lucky that won't be too taxing to organise
I might have to redo their necks, however; the Orruk bodies have really large necks that are currently covered by the Fyreslayer's giant beards, but from the side it looks a lot like the neck grows into the beard. I might move the heads and re-sculpt the necks at the top of the shoulders and not jutting forward like they are now

Slowly working on the 2 Demi-Jotun I built the other day. For reasons, either warp-related or simply cosmic inertia, I can't find the other body to build another (I bought a box of 5 Orruks, turned 2 into Thunder warriors, built 2 Demi-Jotun and....)

Mainly fixing the giant hole in the back where the orruk armour is supposed to go. I've decided to leave the neck, as you have to look closely at the model to see it and they look alright from tabletop height. So with and without greenstuff:

So I was reading through Fall of Cadia when I came across these snippets:

Spoiler:
"Savaged Adeptus Astartes Battle Companies- sometimes reduced to little more than a handful of squads- took their place in the defences, their colours and heraldry bright..."

"...Near two hundred battle-brothers of the Adeptus Astartes embarked the Firemane's Fang. Only fifty-eight hailed from Sven's own brotherhood. Others came from companies that had been torn asunder during the invasion, lone battle-brothers and shattered squads determined to strike one last blow..."

This got me thinking about a mixed Astartes army, and how it would give me an opportunity to paint a variety of different colour schemes and units not typically found amongst the Wolves. So I went looking through my spare marines....

These are just the spare Terminators I have

26 assembled Terminators, and parts to make at least 6 more. I also have over 30 power armoured marines I can't use for my Wolves. Mostly, these are the Blood Angels from Space Hulk and the Dark Angels from Dark Vengeance, but there's a few other Chapters in there, including a Soul Drinker, a Black Dragon, some Lamenters, Hawk Lords and others.

The idea is a Gladius, using the Terminators as a 1st Company Task Force, the Librarians (4 and counting) as a Librarius Conclave, and a minimum-strength (for now) Battle Company. To represent their experiences against Chaos, and the amalgamated nature of their command, I'm planning on using the Forgeworld Chapter Tactics for the Red Hunters. This means everything gets Adamantium Will, and once per game I can give a number of units equal to the game turn a single special rule

Let me know what you think; any Marine players give me pointers?

Some more work on Hod Grimmursson's Grand Company today, Tovar, Captain of the Guard. Hod's lieutenant, bodyguard, and commander of the Wolf Guard forces of the Company. Rules-wise, Belial of the Deathwing. He's the plastic Cataphractii Praetor from Betrayal at Calth, with the sword from the Forgeworld Cataphractii Praetor and a Chaos Warrior head. His left arm has been replaced with a part from the Dwarf engineer Grimmm Burloksson, and will have a Space Wolf storm bolter added later

Grimursson's Wolves see themselves as guardians, and wear the heaviest wargear available to them to fulfill their need to outlast the foe and defend those weaker than them. While Hod left the Fang after a fight with the incumbent Great Wolf many centuries ago, age and experience has tempered his rage and arrogance. While still a proud warrior, he sees greater honour in defending those unable to help themselves than in vainglorious hunts and boasting. His Company are all long-fanged veterans; sure of eye and even of temperament.

Did some work on the remaining members of the command squad started with the Apothecary a few weeks back. I've gone with uniquely Deathwing units for the squad, so a Sergeant, Standard Bearer and Champion, while the last guy carries a plasma cannon. They're very very early work yet, but the Halberd of Caliban will be a heavy frost axe, and the banner held by the standard bearer will be off the Forgeworld Space Wolf Venerable Dreadnought

And before I forget, a Perfidious Relic of the Unforgiven. Because who doesn't like Adamantium Will and Fear? All the Relics in this army will be represented by ravens, for added Norse

A bit more work on Grimmursson's Company; almost completed Lord Grimmursson himself and added a standard to the command squad from yesterday. Grimmursson counts as Azrael, with the double ravens his Watcher in the Dark

I'm thinking I'll use this as the Deathwing banner

The Lost Companies of Jorek Greatwolf- Yet more Rune Priests @ 2017/02/25 14:19:45

Post by: Kurnost

Been working on the next 2 members of the command squad, the plasma cannon terminator and the Deathwing champion. I'd hoped to give the champion a 2-handed grip on his frost blade but that was quite difficult with the bits I had. I settled for the current pose as I feel he would probably be at the rear of the squad a lot of the time; he may have very specific skills honed over a long career but he doesn't carry guns. In normal combat he lets his brothers with guns take the lead, watching for any foe they might otherwise miss, but when the squad closes to melee, they part respectfully to allow the champion through

Still working on this, there's some gaps that need filling on the inside of the arm. Quite simple, just cut the flamer and plasma cannon off their respective arms and swapped. I'm going to add a wolf talisman of some sort to cover the gap where I cut off the Deathwing icon

And the squad:

NEW STUFF
[u]

I've been thinking of creating a focused psyker force for the Wolves for a while; as they move from the Imperium and into their own little bubble they start to change some of their ways and methods of doing things (Heresy, perhaps, but one of the Nine Worlds they claim as their own is an Eldar Maiden World they're honour-bound to protect soooo....)
I have been looking at the Grey Knights for a while, but with the release of Inferno, and my habit of hopping from list to list like a caffeinated rabbit, the 30K Thousand Sons present an alternative. While a Space Wolf/ Grey Knight kitbash is the quickest option, and could be made to look damned nice, rune-bedecked Cataphractii as Sekhmet and sprinting Wolves with twinned runic blades as Khenetai has a certain coolness to it, plus those new Battle-Automata

Thoughts?

So following from my question yesterday, I've decided to go with the 30K Thousand Sons over the Grey Knights as a psychic Company. As cool as the Grey Knights are, they're also incredibly rigid and anti-daemon, rather than the multi-tasking psychic shenanigans of the 30K Thousand Sons. Until my copy of Inferno arrives in the mail, I'm stuck with internet lists and photos from the weekender... And conversions! All the conversions.....so, without further ado, here's my first warrior, a Khenetai Blade

I'm thinking the Sigil of the Fierce-Eye for this Company, to allude to their psychic powers. I think next up will be a converted Osirin...

Your cataphractii terminators are looking superb! The one armed with a two-handed frost axe is my favourite; I especially like how you changed his fluff to match his conversion. And, I agree with going the 30k Thousand Sons route. Grey knights seem a little bit too boring for you

Thanks LostCarcosa, I like him too. Sort of a menacing look to a dude just casually walking around with a huge axe And I laughed a little bit too much at the Grey Knights being the boring choice, embarrassing at 5am On closer inspection.... They really are! The same 2 powers spammed throughout the list, unless you take a Librarian. A bit of a miss for the only force that can use Sanctic properly. I might force myself to make a squad or two, just to add a group that can use Sanctic; should complement the various Cults of the Thousand Sons nicely. We shall see.

Day off today, so hope to get some painting done before uni this evening

So, almost finished off the Cataphractii command squad today, need to sort out those mold lines but that's a task for another day. Also, since it was raining and I couldn't get undercoating done I made a second Khenetai.

The idea with the low-tech stone/ frost weapons is that they're ritual weapons like athame's, hand-crafted by the wielder for their own use, whereas the runic power weapons they use are issued at need by the Chapter forge. I'm going to have a couple of Khenetai with low-tech axes as well, but later.

Also, since I've created characters for fun before, I'm picking up a Njal Stormcaller in terminator armour to join my Grey Knight count-as force; with the book relic, level 3, and the warlord trait for an extra mastery level he'll basically be a Lvl 5 Sanctic psyker with a m/c Nemesis stave. Fluff-wise he'd be something like the Master of Wards, or Keeper of the Shadow Gates; the best daemonhunter they can call upon. Ancient, but still powerful..

Anyway, have a great one and thanks for stopping by!

Further work on Hod's Company, this Interrogator Chaplain. I'm not sure whether I should run him as Asmodai or just a generic version, but I'm leaning towards Asmodai. Special characters are always fun.

Like the Khenetai, he's a second hand model so I'll need to strip some paint off before I can get started on him. I added the gem to break up what will be a very dark model

While I've known for a while that I have an... Erratic... Focus on models, I decided to do something about that today. I found my army lists and began to set models out. The Great Comapny, a combination of Greatpack Jorek and Greatpack Bedlafrod, is basically complete, so I moved onto my next, the Great Company of Ulfun Alf-Ven- Champions of Fenris Formation from their supplement, Wolf Guard Strikeforce from Sanctus Reach: Hour of the Wolf, and Strike Force Daggerfist- A veteran force, Ulfun's Company has a staggering number of terminators, 82 in total. Here's the first several of them, all the Terminators for the Kingsguard, Void Claws and Wolf Guard Thunderstrike formations

Hod Grimmursson's terminators are drying as we speak

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I thought I'd go a different route with Hod's Company than the usual spot colours; the armour will still be the pre-Heresy light grey with brass banding, and the fur and such will be the same, but I think I'll give purple a try as the background for the shoulder pads and banners. I'm thinking something like the symbol of Kvatch from Oblivion, a wolf's head inside a white disc on a purple background. Link below shows the basic idea

Did some extra work on the Khenetai, still short a single sword from the pack of weapons I bought from Spellcrow but I have a minimum 5 man squad now so that's a good start. To go with the previous 2, another 2 basic guys and a sergeant who I hope can take Artificer Armour in the list

Good morning Dakka! So many things planned for the day... Yesterday I got a Forgeworld order which included a Scimitar Jetbike, so today I'm aiming to have Korst's Windriders assembled and ready to spray, or pretty close to it. I also located a light box, so the entire Great Company will be getting new, shinier, pictures. I might start a display thing for that later.
New projects-wise, the local GW has a 6 months build and play campaign starting on Sunday. It's Gathering Storm centric and the army needs to be a new one. I'm going to build the Erik Firewolf's Company for my entry, a Salamanders Flameblade Strike Force suitably wolfed. In addition to fighting with many flame-based weaponry, the Firewolves also fight fast and nasty, as a wildfire, so the whole army will be geared towards rapidly closing and breaking the enemy. I'm going with a Stormlance Demi-Company backed with a Strike Force Ultra. All the marines will be in MkIV armour, 50/50 the BaC scultps and Rubric armour with the Rubric parts painted for the various Chaos forces, and the Terminators will be mainly Tartaros/ Scarab Occult mixed models.

Did some more work on the smaller jetbikes for Korst's Windriders. The Scimitar needs a rider but is otherwise done. I'm out of some of the bitz I need to make more jetbikes so these two will be the last until I get some more kits sorted out, but here they are

The front piece is to counter-balance the weight of the bike, I imagine even with mini jet engines it'd need something like this

So I mentioned a while back I'm starting a new company, Erik Firewolf's, for the Scions of the Storm campaign the local GW is running. For those who came in late, Erik Firewolf (Vulkan He'Stan)

I can't use him in the Campaign, as only special characters that appear in the Gathering Storm books are allowed, hes still the leader of this Great Company. The bitz I have thus far are thesse:

20 plastic MkIV marines, a Contemptor, a MkIV Chaplain, a resin captain and standard bearer and the 30K Ahriman. These will be kitbashed with the traitor MkIV-esque armour of the new Rubric Marines to make 40+ Firewolves, in the 50/50 Chaos/Imperial look of the 13th Company. They will be updated month by month, since I'm restricted to 675-sih points a month,

Also worth noting, since I don't think I've said it before, the Lost Companies aren't all from the 41st millennium. Jorek has been collecting allies and aiding the Imperium for 10,000 years and counting, and many of the shenanigans he's been involved in haven't taken place over strictly linear times. It was only just before the 13th Black Crusade that most of the Lost Companies found themselves in the Cadian sector.

Anyway, thanks for dropping by

Post by: Kurnost

So, some small progress on the Firewolves. I've expanded my list of bitz, they started to look a little too Rubricae for my liking so I added in some Raptor and CSM parts. So far only a Chaplain and a minimum sized Tactical Squad but it slowly grows

I've decided to remove the 30K Ahriman from the pile too; he's far too obviously a Thousand Son and I can't be bothered removing all that detail just to make a generic psyker

So, a bit tongue in cheek here; I read through Inferno and it mentions that Hvarl Redblade commanded the 4th Great Company. I had the Winterborn as the 4th Great Company... But also had them miss the Burning of Prospero as they were trapped in a chronal loop. Also, Hvarl is said to be a bit crazy, another trait of the Winterborn. Did Russ replace the Winterborn with another crazed 4th Company? Is Hvarl Redblade Arstan Winterborn's successor? :-P

So, following on from the Khenetai Blades squad of earlier, I decided I'd make an Osiron Contemptor to accompany the force. I heavily reposed him so he looks like he's throwing a punch. The fist is from the Boneripper and Thanquol kit, it counts as his force weapon. I still need to re position his legs to be further apart, to improve the dynamic.

Post by: Kurnost

Some more work on the Firewolves; I switched out the weapon on the Chaplain and built a Librarian with the Tome of Vel'cona relic as well

The Librarian needs some further work; half his cape is missing and I need to tidy up that leg armour. I'm going to top his staff with part of an Empire Fire Wizard staff

Also worked on the Thunderwolf Cavalry unit that accompanies Jorek Greatwolf; known as Gunnar's Hunt they were kitted with double Wolf Claws but since they failed horrendously against a dreadnought in a game they've been outfitted with Wolf Claw/ Powerfist. Gunnar is the first to get the treatment, using Ork Power Klaws. The story with Gunnar is he's beyond old, having once spent centuries marooned on a primitive planet. His power armour failed and he's never gotten a replacement, instead relying on the heavy plate-and-mail he forged himself. Mounted, he doesn't lack speed for not wearing power armour so Jorek allows it. He later lost both arms to a Tyranid, and had them replaced with weapons instead. With the capture of Ironhold from the Big Mek Metal'ead and the piles of gear left over, he chose to wield a pair of power klaws. He usually just cuts and hacks with the sharpened blades, but when he can seize an enemy in his grasp he crushes them to death. Gunnar's not amazingly well-adjusted when he's not fighting. Anywho....

Thanks for stopping by!

Only a small update; I usually place the company marking on the left shoulderpad of my wolves with the pack marking somewhere on the model; kneepad, shoulder, whatever; but with Gunnar that didn't work. So I think this offering from Geigor Fell-Hand does a pretty good job of displaying his allegiance to the Wild Hunt. The rest of the pack will get shoulderpads from the Space Wolf upgrade sprue

Thanks EDC, got some more work done on the dread earlier. Going to magnetise the weapons and try out OSL around the fist. Here he is at the local GW after I swapped bitz for a second fist

And some fluff

It was the Lamenters, shattered and broken and war-weary, who first imparted the secrets of Librarian dreadnoughts to the Lost Companies; abandoning a horrifically damaged Furioso Librarian frame. This frame was later used to inter Baremund Beast-Bane, and served for years as a standard dreadnought might. With the addition of the Magi of the Taghmata Hvergelmir, the esoteric systems of the Librarian chassis could be better examined, and rough approximations were designed. It was only many centuries later, after the Steel Wars, that these designs were resurrected and fitted to the dreadnoughts assigned to the Runic Brotherhoods.

And additional weapon options. This will be my first magnetised model

The Space Wolves of the Lost Companies are veteran scavengers as well as skilled warriors. Weapons that other forces might abandon are often made whole again in unconventional ways. Thus it is that some of the Company's land speeders are piloted not by living warriors but by the half-dead brothers that would usually be interred in dreadnoughts. These Fangs of Morkai, as they are known, provide a terrifyingly disproportionate force multiplier for the company

Took a badly damaged Land Speeder I had. wrote some fluff, and am on my way to adding some Land Speeder Tempests to Great Pack Bedlafrod

The local GW just started a Shadow War: Armageddon campaign, and I jumped in with a Lost Companies force. As there's already 4 Space Wolf Scout units, I dusted off my Astra Militarum and sent them in. The basic Guardsmen are all built from the Chaos Marauder plastics, and stand taller than a Space Marine, so I decided to turn some Chaos Warriors into carapace Veterans

I still need 4 more to finish my warband, and then I'll doubtless build more to add to the force. They'll be painted something similar to this

One of my multitude of Wolf Lords is Ulfun Alf-Ven (Ulfun Elf-friend) who counts as Logan Grimnar albeit with different kit to represent his wargear. I had planned to mount him on Stormrider, to fill a formation requirement, but I'm really not a fan of the sled. It appears, however, that the new Arkanaut frigate shares a base size with Stormrider so the question is; Do I make an antigrav longship for Ulfun? Think marines on the side to account for the wolf attacks of the official model

So, to fit in with the fluff of Stormrider providing extra attacks, I've added crew to the longship. The steersman will be controlling the vehicle, the two Wolf Guard will be striking out from the sides, and Ulfun (when I build him) will be up at the front either firing his bolter or swinging his axe. Or maybe just yelling. Who knows? I plan to base it so the longship is heeled over to port (left)

This Wolf Guard will just be hanging back, as the enemy is out of reach of his blade

This Wolf Guard will be getting an arm fitted so he's about to execute a backhand strike, probably with an axe

And the steersman watches the terrain as he flies

Did a thorough reorganisation of my bitz boxes the other day, dug out all the legs and prepared them for building. I completed the numbers for Jorek's company, added a bunch of spares to Hrolmir Wyrdbane's packs, finished out the power armour quota from Ulfun Alf-Ven's company, and added 20 models in MkIII armour to Hod Grimmurson's company. After this I gathered all the MkIV I had spare and threw them at the Firewolves.

20 Tactical marines, 5 Devastators, 10 Sternguard, a Command Squad, Erik Firewolf, a Techmarine, a Chaplain and a Librarian. A good start, I think

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The Firewolves utilise flame better than almost any other, and routinely take to the field wielding melta and flamer weapons. As well as being deadly weapons of war, they are also simple and easy to repair and rearm.Flame is not just their chosen weapon, however; it is a spiritual touchstone to both their totem, the Firewolf, and to their lost homeworld of Fenris. It forges their weapons, and tempers and toughens their bodies and minds. Many Firewolves are skilled artificers and smiths, not Iron Priests, but skilled nonetheless.
At their joining with the Company, and at many times through their service, a Firewolf will be called upon to undergo feats of endurance and stamina that invariably involve heat and flame. Blood Claws walk barefoot through a pit of fire and are expected to endure this wordlessly. Hunters must slay a beast with flame, or with weapons forged of their own hands in flame, and are dropped on a planet's surface to undergo this trial. If no planet is forthcoming, they may undergo such a trial inside a space hulk or abandoned station. The test to become one of Firewolf's Guard is one of the most gruelling, however. Each applicant is stripped bare and set to work smithing a blade. They labour without rest in the heat of a forge, and once they have worked their blade they must take it to the the other Wolf Guard, who surround the new aspirant. Each may then challenge the newcomer, wielding only the blade they forged in their own trial The newcomer is unarmoured. They are not. If the newcomer is slain, or fails to rise once knocked down, they have failed the trial. If their sword breaks, they have failed the trial. Those that fail are stripped of rank and shaved and returned to the ranks of the new brothers. They then must undergo anew the trials they have previously endured. In this way, a warrior is never truly destroyed, just as a flame that is banked to embers might roar into life again.

The first of Firewolf's Sternguard veterans, all with either combi-flamers or combi-meltas. The swords are just for show. I found some Dark Elf spears in my bitz box and was taken by how some of them almost resemble a flame. So I wrote the above fluff and got to sticking them on.

All the combi-gunners are now finished, need to get a pair of heavy flamers to arm the other 2 of the squad.

The sergeant of this pack has been honoured by his Jarl for some great deed, and his ritual blade has been reforged into a power sword.

I am digging the predator. I think you need to make some more details on those side sponsors, they look a bit plain. Most of deimos pattern predators have those circular guard things jutting out around the thing.

Also might consider following my tips and tricks below when taking pictures of you dudes. Its a bit hard to single out the finer details.

Thanks Novelist47, and welcome. I'll check those tips for photos, using a very very basic setup ATM.
The sponsons are being worked on, a variety of odd bitz going into replicating the original look and feel. Pics next weekish

Top work with all the tank conversions. I really like the laser destroyer vinticator.

Love the Sternguard too, really characterful.

Thanks EDC, I'm fond of the laser Vindicator as well. With its rules, it'd be better with a few of its own kind for ranged support so I clearly need to build some more

Onto today's offerings, some more WIP Firewolf stuff

Wulfgar Firemind, Librarian

An as-yet unnamed Techmarine with Conversion Beamer

A Tactical Squad

And another Tactical Squad

All the horns on the Chaos helms will be broken off, to represent the wearer tearing them free. They may have to wear corrupted wargear to maintain their effectiveness but they do try to clean it up. Also, many gaps to be filled, not least on the wrist of the Sergeant with Axe, I'm going to fill in some of the stripy Thousand Sons leg plates to create smooth armour plating instead, as well as block the groin plates back up since I didn't use the tabards. I could add furs but I'm trying to avoid that too much here, they are routinely burning themselves so I doubt furs would last long. Maybe scales? I'll see

I have to say, I love how the legs of the TSons are hugs, they give a real feeling of height to the models and makes it stand out from the crowd.

Questions/ comments/ thoughts/ random musings are all welcome

Since I've been working on his Company long enough, I thought it time to get to work on Ulfun Alf-Ven himself. A veteran Wolf Lord, he bears the sigil of the Wolf That Stalks The Stars. This is not his own symbol, but one he adopted after falling in with the Lost Companies. It represents Russ, and Ulfun strongly hopes to one day find his Primarch. His saga is long, but it is for his almost-friendaship with the Eldar Corsaid Lord Miraak Soulburner that Ulfun is best known; his cognomen translates as Elf Friend in the Fenrisian tongue. The greatsword he carries was a gift from Soulburner for saving his life.

Thanks EDC. Most of my Wolf Lords have some fluff attached to them. It's kinda hard to keep it all organised though

I just got this beauty in the mail, from a friend in Victoria. He will become Styrbjorn, Captain of the Guard; the counts-as Arjac Rockfist I need to field the Arjac's Shieldbrothers formation. His weapons will probably end up on an Iron Wolf

I'm thinking of giving Styrbjorn a bionic limb, most likely a gun; instead of a melee weapon he throws, Styrbjorn has a gun that he recklessly fires at point-blank range into the foe. He'll still have a storm shield of course. THis is how he currently looks

I've also been working on this guy

High Iron Priest of the Lost Companies, Jarl of the Company of the Iron Wolf and Lord of Ironhold, Harald Haraldsson is an ancient and powerful priest of the machine. His own body is almost entirely cybernetic, and his resilience is awe-inspiring. The Iron Wolf is forever bound to his armour, for so little remains of the man he once was that removing his battle-plate would almost completely cripple him.

I built him out of an Iron Father with the hammer from the Praetor I'm turning into Styrbjorn. Harald uses the rules for Vaylund Cal, the Iron Thane of the Sons of Medusa. The model will have additional servo-arms added, and a unique combi-weapon to account for the guns on his servo-harness. The Iron Hands icon on the torso will be replaced with a greenstuff icon of the Iron Priests, and his shoulder pads will be the Iron Wolf Cataphractii pads from Pop Goes The Monkey

Working on transporting my entire Great Company; added these to the mix. A Rhino for Skoll Suneater's pack, complete with little fire-breathing dragon head exhausts, and an ancient Deimos-pattern Rhino for the Bloodmaws

I made this helmet on a whim, using the old Longbeard mask on a berserker helmet. I'd hoped to get a relic helmet feel, but it seems more samurai to me. Might make a squad with them

Still working on vehicles, but just created this converted Iron priest backpack out of bitz

The Great Company is nearly done, troops-wise. I just need to finish vehicles. Setting aside that in a month this formation will be obsolete, line edging vehicles is a seriously time-consuming exercise.

So amongst the many goodies I received yesterday was a damaged recast Legion Glaive turret. Following the fluff I'd set for the time post-Steel War, I decided I'd make up a Baneblade I have lying around to form a version of the classic Legion Glaive. But first I had to repair the turret! Here it is as it currently stands

I'm going to need a couple of maxed Detachments to field the Lost Companies in 8th. If everything remains in the force org slot it's in right now, and counting the components of formations that I had assembled, I have 14 HQ units, 13 Elites units, 9 Troops, 6 Fast Attack (if Vehicle Squadrons are still a thing, 13 if not), between 10 and 16 Heavy Support choices, again depending on vehicle squadrons, and 19 Dedicated Transports.
That's for Great Company Jorek. I havent tallied the other Companies yet

That Baneblade is going to look glorious when it's done.

After looking at all your models I kinda want to revisit my old Space Wolf army...
