Prodos Mutant Chronicles Warzone Resurrection - Yes/No/Maybe? @ 2015/02/04 19:58:27

Post by: Alpharius

I'm shocked - stunned even - that we don't have an active, ongoing, busy Warzone Resurrection thread here in the Misc. Miniature Games subforum!

I'm interested in this system - a lot!

Finances and the Gaming Budget were in bad shape during the Kickstarter, so I was, sadly, unable to take advantage of that.

So, what does everyone think?

Worth getting into?

Are there any in-depth reviews of the new system and miniatures somewhere?

Thanks!

I can't point you towards an in-depth.. anything.. when it comes to WZR. However, with free rules and the recent (digital) release of all the cards it's pretty cheap to get in to. The starter sets are pretty good value, too, when you consider they are only £5 more than most Infinity starters. If you want to get a starter make sure it's one of the 'new' starters because they went back and updated a lot of the KS sculpts to help them create a more.. retail friendly product. The quality of the sculpts varies from good to great (IMHO) with the only real flaw being a tendency towards components that are too small / thin. This was most evident with the miniatures that were designed during the beginning of the Kickstarter but with each new character, vehicle or unit that was unlocked, you could see them getting better and better. As a result, the Mishima starter (the last starter to get unlocked during the KS) is miles better in terms of sculpting quality and component design than, say, the Cybertronic starter which was the first box to be designed if I recall correctly. The Imperial starter came along after the KS and the quality of the sculpts was (again IMHO) the best yet. They also reduced the number of components per mini and what would have been thin and bendy had it been designed in 2013 is now much more robust.

The Imperial starter also reflected a change in the way the starters were comprised - gone was the named character. Instead there were two generic NCOs who could double as a character (using the "design your own character" rules) and it also meant you could pick a named hero to lead your force if you so wished, from the selection available for that faction. Thus, Prodos then revisited the starters they had created during the kickstarter, improving sculpts and changing the composition of the starters to match the Imperial one. Only the Capitol and Mishima starters are unchanged in terms of composition. Here's how the starters have changed:

Dark Legion: 2 Necromutants instead of Alakhai the Cunning.
Bauhaus: Venusian Marshall instead of Angelica Drachen. Significant redesign of the Vulcan. Tweaked Hussars.
Brotherhood: 2 Inquisitors instead of the Cardinal. Tweaked Judicator. Tweaked Troopers.
Capitol: Tweaked Light Infantry.
Cybertronic: 2 Dr Diana clones instead of Cuirassier, Exterminateur (giant Not T800) instead of the Everassur. Tweaked Chasseurs.
Mishima: Tweaked Ronin.
Imperial: Newest starter, doesn't need changing.

If the Mishima starter changes I highly doubt any of the models will be resculpted although the Meka might get an extra weapon option and Captain Hiroko might be swapped out. The Capitol starter is more likely to change in my opinion, as the Light Infantry could use the same treatment as the Bauhaus Hussars and Brotherhood troopers

The quality of the new (e.g. 2014 onwards) and 'tweaked' sculpts is great in my opinion and similar to WWX.. although the material is a little softer which is both a pro and a con.

The setting is.. well, I can't really be objective here. The first CCG I ever played was Doomtrooper and the first RPG I ever owned was Mutant Chronicles. I love the settings and the factions. As for the rules.. mechanically they are fairly sound and I feel like each model is more of an individual.. not quite like Infinity or Rogue Trader but certainly more so than 40k. The card mechanic - while optional - is an important element that helps it feel different from other games and building a deck of cards as well as your force is quite neat. This is now even easier to do as you no longer need to buy multiple copies of a model or unit to get more copies of a card - you can just print them out.

Probably my only gripe is the writing. After the most recent eratta release, there aren't too many rules that are open to interpretation and exploitation (again, IMHO) but a lot of the ability and card names are very odd, as though they were literal translations from another language which don't necessarily sound as good in English.. although to be fair, that's probably exactly what happened

Gazillionth edit: If you want to get in to Warzone, the best starting point is.. well, a starter plus one named hero for your faction. As awesome as they might be, I would strongly advise against buying a Black Widow (Dark Legion), Grizzly (Bauhaus), Icarus Jet Fighter (Brotherhood), Leviathan Battle Tank (Capitol) or Eradicator Deathdroid (Cybertronic) until you have a bunch of people to play against. This is because these are all classed as "Heavy Vehicles" which are not only expensive ($$$) but also costly in terms of points and if you are just starting, your opponent isn't likely to have enough models to match it. In addition, Mishima and Imperial don't have a Heavy choice yet.

I've been really interested in this one as well. Imo it's the only game that comes close to having iconic visuals on par with 40k, but with better rules. Im also surprised that it doesn't seem to have a community on dakka.

One thing I'd add to Siygess' detailed post is that they apparently changed the scale on some of the redone minis so they won't look just right next to the just released KS versions (like amazons next to asian women). He might be able to give you more detail as to what models changed scale but it is something to consider if you're buying them second hand.

That's certainly true. All of the 'tweaked' sculpts are a bit chunkier and a touch taller than their counterparts. Thus, you might want to be careful about mixing old and new Hussars, for example. The sculpts who were dainty to begin with but have NOT been updated fare the worst (The Dr Diana hero and Golgotha spring to mind, as do the Undead Legionnaires). Big Bob Watts also needs beefing up IMHO because while he was tall compared with the older minis as he should be, he doesn't stand out very much alongside new models like the Imperial Trencher. Luckily the all-female units who might also have fallen into that category.. namely the Etoiles Mortant and Valkyires.. have also been updated.

On the other end of the scale.. literally.. is the Imperial hero Benjamin Taylor. I love the mini itself but man he is huge. 40k huge.

I ended up getting Alakhai the Cunning and Valpurgius for my D&D games for various characters, and the castings were absolutely spectacular. No bubbles, zero flash, almost no mold lines.

While I have no idea if I want to play the game, the models themselves are fantastic. Only gripe is they are a bit bigger than 32mm scale. Fine for my usage, but I have no idea on other usages.

I would say that what scale shift there is no worse than any other range. And it seems to me that the miniatures keep getting better. They are also releasing new miniatures on a regular basis, without using kickstarter, which is nice. And the quality of the casts has been really good so far.

The game plays like a streamlined and heavily modernised version of the old Warzone. This is a GOOD thing. I really liked old warzone, and WZR is warzone with the good things kept and the bad stuff fixed.Shooting is quite deadly so terrain is important.

They are redoing the card system so that all cards can be bought in decks separate from the miniatures. I think this is good since it evens out the playing field. All players get access to the same cards without needing to buy the miniatures that they come with. It is also important to note that the cards just add flavor and tactics to the miniature game.

This. It's remarkable how quickly Prodos have been able to improve the quality of their sculpts.

Their casting is getting better too - the new Juggernaughts I received last week were flawless, although both of the Bauhaus artillery pieces I ordered had mold lines / slippage on the back of the gun shields that ran down to - and diagonally across - the gun carriage and it was a bitch to remove. So, not perfect, but nothing that would make me want to stop buying their products!

Retailers in the UK (e.g. Wayland) definitely sell the Warzone line and I know that some of the US retailers have done.. but I wouldn't be terribly surprised if they got burned by the change to the starters and after selling off the 'old' stock, they might be reluctant to carry the 'new' stuff. Shoot BDJV (aka Big Jim on the Prodos Forums) a PM and he might be able to tell you what's up.

I'm quite heavily invested in the Mutant Chronicles re-relaunch (Bauhaus, Imperial and Capitol forces) but I do have to say that some of the older sculpts definitely show inexperience, Hussars for example can't be assembled with the dual LMG squad upgrade as there simply aren't enough arms on the sprue.

In addition the mould quality could be extremely bad, every model in my first army was miscast to varying degrees although they were all fixable with creative modelling. The resin used is also weak, for example my Imperial officer/standard bearer has his standard permanently bent at 180 degrees and judging from what I have read on forums this is a common complaint.

That being said I have now started on a new Captiol army and the cast quality is around industry standard now (not great but easily workable) and the sculpts are very nice on the whole.

I have also found an active group that plays Warzone so I expect to be getting a lot of games in this year. the rules seem reasonable and while there were some obvious issues initially they have been FAQed out (Purple Sharks especially)

TlR just be aware that there could be issues due to the inexperience of the company but its a game that I expect a lot from in the future once it matures.

I saw someone post pics of their newly released Orca walker, and the mould quality looked extremely crisp.

Link

I don't mean that their sculpts are bad, they are actually quite good on the whole and Prodos have redesigned some of their earlier mistakes, although I prefer the old Vulkan.

The cast quality is definitely improving although I would still say that they have some work to do. I just bought some Sealions and Henry Thomas and while there are on the whole clean, a lot better than my Capitol starter set, there are still some slight miscasts and a fair bit of that annoying wispy flash.

Just got back from TempleCon where I was able to get 5+ games in.

The rules take a bit of getting used to, but they really are fun to play. Stackable cover modifiers and such make the game feel very tactical, though I would recommend almost Infinity levels of terrain to avoid getting slaughtered by 28" threat ranges (AVV 4 Heavy Capitol Troops FTW!). There are quite a few modifiers, but they start to become second nature just like 40k or WM/H.

I still haven't dived fully into the gear/order/tactical cards, we've mostly been using just the resource cards to burn for extra rate of fire or action points. Along those same lines, I don't think we ever really got the magic rules 100%, but that was mostly because the factions we played didn't have access to them. (Purple Sharks may definitely be under costed. Doesn't mean I'll stop using them, however ).

I have a few pictures of the models in my gallery, and they really are fantastic. People kept asking if they were Infinity models all weekend. I noticed small amounts of mold slippage, but nothing game breaking. I also didn't find most of the scales to ever be noticeably out of whack. There are definitely a few flimsy/brittle weapons, but per what I heard, their may be brass/plastic replacements coming down the pipe.

In terms of model updates, Prodos posted a planned revision list on the Warzone Resurrection facebook page. It looks like a new rule book is coming down the pipe (v1.4) in a new A5 format without the fluff, but it's unclear if it will be physical or PDF only, though I assume they will print it. The Capitol Light Infantry as well as a few other models will also be updated to reflected new production standards and practices.

Final Conclusion: The game is a lot of fun, so much so that I'm looking into becoming a Crusader to help spread the word about it! I highly recommend it Alph!

They are? I was certainly hoping that would be the case although the production status they put on Facebook the other day threw me.. it states both the Capitol Light Infantry and the starter are already on V2, with no resculpt planned for the Light Infantry. I assume the V2 status reflects the changes that were made between the KS ending and the KS rewards being shipped (they had the classic 'American Football' style helmets during the KS) so I guess I was hoping for a V3

Edit: Just so everyone knows what I'm talking about, here is the list. It should help you plan your purchases!

They have been FAQed so they aren't quite as nasty, their Rof is now 4. I can't find the FAQ on the Prodos site or Facebook page although I'm sure thats where I read it.

I like Capitol light infantry, although I would like the Aircav options to be on the sprue or at least make the upgrades a bit more significant than a slightly different head and backpack. I'm not sure why Sea Lions are being revised, they seem pretty decent models although mine are still on their sprue.

All I'm really looking for from Capitol is a generic Heavy Infantry character.

I'm glad that they are updating the physical book, mine needs replaced after my son managed to rip half the pages out.

There is nothing really wrong with the sculpts, on the whole they are decent. The issue that I have with them is that some of their poses are quite unnatural, or maybe its just the way that I assembled them.

Making them a 2 piece model should fix that though.

IMO the Banshees suffer from badly proportioned arms and head plus weird poses.

For some guys wearing a helmet plus mask the heads are too small, I'm not asking for 1ed heads mind you but for bigger ones that look like a human wearing a helmet not a skin tight facemask. Arms have the same problem, too thin, no muscle no armor, more suitable on a fashion model than on a soldier, especially when compared against the legs that are encased in heavier armor.

You can see more examples of this on other KS models like the Hussars.

Also on the topic of the news thread Big Jim used to run the (consolidated Prodos) news thread but it hasn't been updated in a while. Maybe it could be.. heh.. resurrected.

I don't think that they are badly proportioned, in general Prodos make very well proportioned human models (the original Hussars were an exception). The heads are about the right size, they simply have a giant skull faceplate but then they are supposed to. Similarly the arms are about the right size for a fit human. Some of the poses are poor though, that's for certain.

Does anyone know the usual format for Warzone official tournaments? There is a big one at the UK games Expo which I would like to go to but the link for the tournament pack doesn't work; there is little besides the tournament announcement on their Facebook page and their forum has apparently been abandoned.

My local store carries the full line of models. A lot of people bought into the game and it was going strong for awhile but slowly people started going back to infinity and warmahordes. I personally lost interest just from the lack of player base even after introducing the game to several people. I kept running into the I'd rather play infinity wall. Ive never played in infinity so I don't know how similar they are.

I have updated my first post in this thread with some new information on the starters - the Mishima and Capitol starters have been updated with tweaked infantry sculpts but the composition of those starters has not changed. This means that you are safe to buy either of the starters without worrying about them being replaced.

I was an early backer of this project and am a Crusader, I will also give an unbiased in a nutshell review for you with the good and the bad.

Sculpt quality- as has been mentioned, yeah sculpts were and are excellent. A lot of detail has been put into these guys. It was really hard for me to limit myself as I am a visual based person with hobby first. I absolutely choose models based on how they look as opposed to rules. There are exceptions to everything. In several of the forces, the troopers in my opinion are nothing special or to me look boring, but the other units are flipping awesome. Dark Legion and Cybertronic have this problem for me. I really don't like the line base troops, especially since I really liked last editions Chassuers. But the armored guys, the medium support are better looking than anything else in the line. The Death Egg is monstrous and likely the best looking model in the game, a shame the Orca is almost as good if not better for cheaper. Other lines just look fantastic, Imperial is all round well done.

Problems come in with the quality of the molds, the early stuff was insanely hard to put together. Too many fiddly bits and they came together in kind of awkward positions. Imperial as a later faction came together much easier although the Blood Berets still look awkward. They also are heroic scale compared to the rest of the line which leans more towards true scale. Also they were made with a resin which would bend under its own weight. I still haven't figured out why they chose to put Purple Sharks on a resin flight stand instead of a plastic stand. Both of my Purple sharks are bent to 90 degrees just from sitting on my desk for a few months.

Rules: The rules are fairly easy to follow. It looks like the FAQ which I haven't seen either has tamed a few of the units which I thought were very OP. Vehicles seem to be very powerful, almost game breakingly so. I have not actually used the cards outside of resource cards either. In all the groups I have played in, it was usually as intro games and that kept the game from being more complicated. Resource cards only work great to figure out the game. Another change in the FAQ I heard about is if the warlord dies you don't lose all of his resource cards which is nice.

Overall: I really enjoy this game and wish my time wasn't as limited as it was to enjoy playing it more. The staff of this game are highly energetic. The US boss is a very vocal guy and is very interactive in the group in pushing the game. He is off at the Las Vegas Open as we speak. It seems to be doing very well in Europe so I don't think we will see a repeat of the last several editions. Then again those editions did well too, it was stuff above the game company level that brought them down, you know parent company going under, owner having a heart attack and family issues, that kind of thing. I don't know what Prodos's standing is as a business and if they are owned by anyone major, but they seem to be doing well and growing. The quality seems to be ever improving on all fronts and I see more and more from Europe and hope to see more and more here. They have some of the nicest miniatures on the market at really good prices and very solid rules requiring few tweaks.

My only critique really for them was a schedule of what to expect in the near future, not dates just whats upcoming.

I finally finished assembling my Capitol and you can really see the improving cast quality.

The Light Infantry were bought at Salute last year and have quite a lot of quite serious issues, most significantly mould slippage but also air bubbles and obliterated detail. My Banshees were bought at Bovington last summer and are noticeably improved but still below the quality line as far as I am concerned.

The Heavy infantry were bought before Christmas and the only real issue with them is that nearly all the barrels are bent (easily fixed with hot water though). I bought Henry Thomas a couple of weeks ago and the cast is flawless, aside from some minor flash.

Hopefully this means that Prodos now know what they are doing.

To add to the cast quality discussion, I recently received the new Nasca Razides. Pristine, crisp cast with a few somewhat exotic flaws.

It seems Prodos is using extremely soft moulds for their resin, because the models I got had essentially zero mould lines, and yet several spots had stepping, maybe a quarter of a millimetre in height. Almost as if the mould didn't align correctly on a half a centimetre section, but perfectly everywhere else. Easy to remove, but Razides are rather big and bulky. Might be a different story on infantry sized miniatures.

And here's a Razide, because why not.

They've reposted the rules, it appears. Your link didn't work:
http://calc.prodos.co.uk/photos/game_and_factions.zip

I got the 1.2 rules PDF a while ago, and it was missing the vehicles section. This 1.4 version has them, so that's nice

My club has a visit or 2 from a rep, and lots of us bought a starter set. It went pretty well, and the mood about the game was good.
That was the last I saw WZR at the club :(

Doesn't Warstore also have a physical store ? Did they not want to have anything to do with it or were they just not willing to accept Prodos terms ?

Hey guys, checking in here. I play Capitol and Dark Legion. Love the new format and the models. Hope to see more players getting into as well.

and as a tease to you guys, (I'm a Crusader) I just got hold of the new rules and stats for the RPG characters that are coming out for WZ that can be used as Lords in the WZR games. Some of you players are going to be pretty happy, and that's all I am allowed to say!!!

I am having trouble figuring out what I like to play. Unfortunately I never pick factions because of their play-style (I know a mistake) which has bit me before when the play-style doesn't match mine. I tend to pick something that looks cool, all about the rule of cool. ^_^

With that in mind there is definitely some choices to make because I can't find a faction where I like everything. I either like the heroes, but not the troops or I like the troops but not the heroes. There does appear to be vast differences in factions that dont' exactly make their miniatures blend well together.

For example Imperial Troops, I love the Grey Ghosts. When you compare them with their other support brethren Mourning Wolves, Imperial Life Dragoons, Golden Lions.... the looks are completely different. The same thing goes for Troopers, Trenchers style is completely different than the Mourning Wolves. Mourning Wolves could match Wolfbane Commandos if the wolves didn't have bare legs. Sure I could make them skin tights instead with painting, but that is what makes my troop building difficult.

I know I'm probably the oddball out there.

Don't worry so much about the characters. Points wise it's cheaper to create your own character using the HOTSS rules. I just use Golgotha because she's kick ass for the price. I play Capitol and dark legion, and my next army will be brotherhood, because I played them in first ed.

Ah, the same problem I had with DUST! Luckily for me, the SSU had helicopters and helicopters > everything.

As for Imperial, don't forget that the ISF (Imperial Special Forces) are actually a troop type too, just like the Trenchers, and are very customisable rules wise. Visually I think they fit pretty well with the Grey Ghosts and I think those two squad types - plus a custom Warlord of your own design as Raven911 said - can make up the core of your force. Don't forget that you can include Brotherhood Troopers and Valkyries in your Imperial army as support choices too!

The only thing that is around the corner (if my memory serves me correctly) are the Imperial Life Dragoons / Young Guard models.. which I think we have seen a teaser for. Hopefully Prodos will be able to wrap up the remaining units from the Imperial book over the next few months so that we can see a variety of releases across all factions again

Capitol and Bauhaus can also take Brotherhood Troopers or Valkyries as a Support choice. It is worth noting that if you take Brigadier Rist as your Warlord, he can also have two Brotherhood Guardiani Oblati as bodyguards.

Finally Got a game in!
1500 pt Heavy OOC
Captiol vs. Mishima
Mission: Kill Them All!

Capitol List:
Custom CC Free Marine WL with Rocketeers

5 man Airborne Infantry squad
6 man Airborne Infantry squad
2x 5 man Heavy Infantry with chain bayonets, flamer, and chain ripper

5 man Free Marine squad with rocket launcher
10 man Sea Lions squad

Orca walker

Leviathan tank

Mishima:
(will correct later but from what I remember)
Custom psychic WL
4x ronin squads
2 tiger dragon squads
Crimson Devil squad
2 mekas
2 dragons

Turn 1
Initiative- Mishima

Tiger Dragons on the left go Flesh to Stone and shoot two free marines, killing one
Airborne Infantry drop in on left an kill 4 Ronin in one squad with Hail Mary and 9 more with shotguns. The Remaining Ronin charge the Airborne and blow up in a psychic explosion, killing all but one. The second Airborne squad drops in on the right, and kill 4 more ronin from one squad with hail mary and another 8 with shotguns. The remaining ronin use the same psychic suicide attack and kill all of the airborne. The leviathan moves up and kills a Tiger Dragon that was using the sandbag bunker for cover. The Crimson Devils run up and throw an obscene amount of gas grenades at the heavy infantry on the right, and after a ridiculous amount of gas mask saves, finally kills all of them. The Orca moves up and fres its rocket launcher at the Crimson Devils, killing two of them. The Mekas move up and both fire on the tank, causing SP damage on the hull and turret, but can't power up their shots.

Turn 2
Initiative- Capitol
The Leviathan loads up Assassin Ammo and blasts the two meka, causing 3 SP on each of their hulls and weapons. Serious damage but not enough to take them out of the fight before they both power up and aim at the engine, blowing the tank up. The Orca moves up and uses the wreck of its friend for cover, and blows the weapons off of one of the Meka with its HMG, and causes another hull SP on the other one with its autocannon. The left side Tiger Dragons kill some of the Sea Lions, and the Sea Lions causes some wounds in return.

Turn 3
Initiative- Mishima
The Mekas move up to get a better shot at the Orca, but misses. The second heavy infantry squad moves up and takes out both Mekas with aimed shots to the hull. The Orca fires on the Tiger Dragons in cover but fails to cause any wounds. The Dragon rider moves up and burns up the remaining Sea Lions.

Turn 4
Initiative- Mishima

The Dragon Rider Charges the Orca, and causes a SP on the hull with a rear attack.
The heavy infantry Sgt runs over and kills the remaining Crimson Devils with his flamer, including the Screaming Devil. The rest of the squad move to engage the dragon rider, and three are able to make it. They cause 2 wounds to it. The WL engages and causing another wound. The Orca finishes off the dragon with a stomp attack.

Final Score
Capitol killed 1064 points of Mishima
Mishima killed 1029 points of Capitol

This was a fun, bloody, and brutal game. Just goes to show what grood friends, good beer, and a good game can do! This was very close and very well fought.

Mission: Search and Destroy!

Army lists:
Ravens Capitol
Free Marine CC Warlord with Rocketeers ability
2x 5 man airborne squads
2x 5 man heavy infantry squads
5 man Sea Lions squad
5 man Free Marines squad
K9 squad with investigator dog and 4 attack dogs
Orca Walker

Bax's Brotherhood
Crucifier psychic Warlord
2x 10 man trooper squads
Sacred Warrior Squad
Mortificator squad
Judicator Walker

Turn1
Capitol wins Initative
Sea Lions blend in on top of the pyramid and and shoot at the mortificators and hit but they all dodge. Two of the Sea Lions didn't have shots except at a BH trooper, and kill him.
Mortificators move up.
Airborne infantry droop in with shotguns blazing and kill 5 trooper from one squad and 4 troopers from another.

The Judicator moves up and kills 3 of the airborne with its Gatling cannon.

The second airborne squad drops in and remembers their rocket launchers and kills some more BH troopers, and shotguns the sacred warriors and kills two. The sacred warriors turn and engage, killing all of the airborne.

The free marines use the high ground and nail the Judicator with a rocket in the chest cause some damage.

The heavy infantry and the orca move up to get shots on the approaching Mortificators, but they dodge everything.

Turn 2
Capitol seizes the Initative using a strategy card from last round

The orca moves up and unloads on they mortificators killing one of the bastards.

The Judicator fire on the free marines and kills two of them and engages the last two airborne, killing one and causing the last one to break and run. The K9s move up toward the Mordificators.

Thanks to some lucky shooting from earlier that I don't remember, the morts had been whittled down to size, so only a couple remained to engage the heavy infantry, killing two of them. The heavies retaliate and fire up the chain bayonets and cut the remaining morts down.

The crucifier runs up and kills the remaining fleeing airborne, and the marines thump another rocket into the judicators hull causing another point of damage.

The Sea Lions have a back shot at the Judicator, so they aim for the torso and kill the walker with their spec ops ammoed M50s.
A few more things happened that I forgot to write down, but at the end of turn 3 Capitol had decisive control of the field.

In retrospect, I screwed up with the second airborne squad by using the hail mary ability then shooting shotguns. The hail mary counts as a shooting action and therefore I would not have been about to shoot a second time. I forgot about the rockets with the first squad so no problem there.

We had a great time playing and had a lot of interest from people walking up and asking us about the game.

I think it's okay size wise considering it's a Heavy.. and not that much bigger than the Death Egg (which only seems smaller because most of the bulk is in the torso). Hopefully Illian will get some kind of giant dinosaur so the two can fight it out

1. 'Raiden' - how original.
2. Tatsu is a class of Gigamek so translated from prodosian it reads now 'Raiden class Tatsu class Gigamek'.
3. Gigamek has a crew but here just as in Meka by Prodos you would have troubles to put even one pilot.
4. Sword with scabbard - because giant walkers are super agile.
5. Those launchers look like they will have a problem with this fancy hat.
As Mishima fan I am again dissapointed. If it would be render of Combat Warhead then it would be great but as Gigamek it is a total failure.

Ilian is part of Dark Legion, sister of Algeroth, Muawijhe, Semai and Demnogonis. She is the first Apostle, Mistress of the Void. She has greatest mastery over Dark Symmetry [Legion magic]. She has the greatest rivalry with Algeroth.

Do Ashigaru have katanas or am I blind? Really Prodos? Commoners with samurai weapons?

In a post earth society, I doubt the cost of swords is really a huge deterrent to arming the common class

Fair enough. Personally I think the new Machinator squad is excellent, the Headhunters and Ashigaru are great, fluff be damned, and the Blitzers.. well, hm. Let's call that a "retro" look, shall we?

Blitzers definitely appear to be the old heroic scale. Tough to say, I'd have to see them next to the new Hussars.

I think some of the paintjobs may be making the scales feel a bit wonky.

It is not about cost but social restriction - Commoners are not allowed to have samurai weapons or armour. It is about fluff that for me is very important and Prodos has again spat on it.

The digital colouring makes them very hard to read. Would be much better with casts or even just the render if they can't afford to get professional painting done.

I'm not old enough to remember any of the old Mutant/Chronicles stuff. I probably won't have time or money for this. And I was determined not to give Prodos any of my money anyway (vote with your dollar and all that) but damn these models are tempting. And the game is obviously well supported.

Just received the starters for Cybertronic and Dark Legion, and the stuff is light years better than the Kickstarter stuff I received a while (years?) ago, which was already very high quality. You won't be disappointed.

Stats call them mass produced swords. No bonus to them at all, basically big butter knives.

Look at it this way, every other army uses combat knives. Mishima doesn't have a clue what those are. Their version of a knife is used for ritual suicide. The "combat knife" for them is a sword. Just for the peasent class, they don't bother to sharpen them.

Try it. No reason not too. Prodos is a great company. Warzone is one of the best games I've ever played and just keeps getting better. You'll love it if you try it.

Don't get all butt hurt over the AvP issue. They made mistakes and have been restructuring things to resolve the problems. Its only going to get better and better.

I can understand your enthusiasm for WZR but I love MC fluff too much to justify nonsense changes that were absolutely not needed. Hah! Yeah that's always the way. There are many good choices but I would suggest either:

A) If you prefer a small, tough army, buy a squad of Guardiani Oblati next. They are quite expensive, points wise, but they are tough and make great bodyguards for the Cardinal.
B) If you want a more versatile army, buy a squad of Valkyries (Rapid Deployment gives you a lot of options if you are playing missions with objectives) and a squad of Sacred Warriors. The latter aren't quite as scary as they used to be but they can make a good screening unit for your Judicator (best combined arms walker in the game, in my opinion) or they are a very temping target that will draw your opponent's attention away from the flanking Brotherhood Troopers!

Hi everybody! I am an italian player and I LOVE the support Prodos is giving to this game - miniatures and rules, in particular.

I play Mishima (but also Imperial MOW and Wolfbanes).

New miniatures are really good. Honestly I do not know how to use new Ashigar (they do not seem very useful) you but I will buy a blister for sure, they are wonderful models.

As far as balance goes, between me and my buddy who I play with, we have Capitol. Cybertronic, Mishima, Brotherhood, Imperial, and Dark Legion. No one single army has been dominate, we each have a 3 or 4 win streak, which is usually due more to dice, luck, and tactics. The latest update on army lists seems to have fixed a few problems people had.

I can tell you from fighting them, your brotherhood sacred warriors and the ninja guys are BEASTS.

Modiphius changed a lot of things that did not need to be changed. Wrz Resurrection seems quite faithful to the original to me. But, above all, it is FUN to play. I respect you opinion, anyway, you just seems overcritic to me.

Hi

WZR 2.0 list of changes

Afternoon all, OK so I am not involved at all in writing 2.0, however here is couple bullet-points from the rules team about major changes:
- Faster, smoother Turn sequences resulting in quicker games.
- Removal of base sizes and base special attacks. Now each model has a Size modifier
- Armour stat has been increased by 10. You now simply subtract the Strength of the attack to find the Armour Save you have to roll.
- Vehicles are now statted the same as Infantry. No more AV/AVV
- RoF and RoA have been combined into RoA
- Added DEF to close combat allowing for more dynamic close combat.
- Changes to Terrain modifiers
- Condensed Card deck. 40 unique dual-purpose cards. 3 of the same cards each per play deck
- Removal of Squad Special Actions and CC special actions
- Cover modifier has changed (1 cover type)
- no more warlords / lords, just "heroes" (or whatever)
- there will be a new mission portfolio (some were unbalanced for tournament play)
- turn 1 and 2 have serious deployment restrictions (RD / Infiltrate)
- more deployment options (stalk, flank deployment)
- Restructurisation of the rulebook
- removed negative armour modifier for armour
- free pivot action at start of model activation
- revamped and more meaningful actions
- got rid of weapon ammo types
- changes in terminology to make things clearer
and few more

saluti

This might revitalize the game. My group has played since 1st ed and we love the universe but while we love the minis from this edition, the rules were just too much. We also never use the cards outside of resource cards, too big a PITA for pick up games. For the last year or two we haven't done a whole lot with it. I have decent sized Imperial and DL armies I haven't even put together yet due to lack of need to play them.

Hi all 2 quick rules questions (even though rules might be changing soon). 1 do the named napharites know all the D psychic powers ontop of what you can buy them? 2 does weapon strength modify vehicle armor as well as avv or is avv the only thing that modifies vehicle armor?

1: Alas no All characters who can cast psychic powers (Art for Brotherhood, Ki for Mishima, Dark Symmetry for Legion) can only cast the powers that they buy (or get for free). The only thing that applies to D type powers when it comes to Legion is that casting a D type power does not cost an Action Point.
2: Only a weapon's AVV counts when it comes to damaging vehicles.

Watched some batreps of the 2.0 rules. It's looking like a very, very solid game.

It has similarities for Warmachine, but with better squad dynamics and more variation in actions.

A nice resource system is used to limit the most powerful abilities.

If I may ask, where are people finding good Warzone bat-rep videos? I enjoyed Ash's very much at GMG, and it was what pushed me to back both the board-game Kickstarter, and also pre-order a Version 2.0 rule-book and card-deck bundle.

Any other places I might want to look for active players, or possibly to get in games? I'm in the New York area, equidistant from CT and NJ, but am always up to drive for a day of gaming.

So... um... should I try to cancel my pre-order with PRODOS? If I can't get a comment on this thread in two+ weeks, I feel like the game must be catastrophically dead, even before the supposedly tight new rule-book comes out. Yikes.

Personally, I can't advocate giving Prodos any money at all. Nothing to do with this game, everything to do with Jarek and crew. So, yeah, cancel your pre-order.

I wish I knew what to tell you. I know of almost no professionally or semi-professionally recorded battle reports for Warzone as a whole let alone for 2.0. Most bat reps I know of tend to just be photos posted on the main facebook group (Warzone - Mutant Chronicles) with the occasional write up. I think the Cartel Tactical Centre (fan magazine) had them but that has largely been on hiatus leading up to 2.0.

Doomtrooper radio was worth a listen to, but even that dried up around the time of WZR 1.6 and the faction shakeup.

With so many initiatives being fan driven, I think just about everyone is waiting with baited breath to see if the final 2.0 PDF (and printed hardback) is good enough to revitalise the game and perhaps more importantly, warrant further time and energy in keeping these initiatives going.

Unfortunately I can't even tell you who is running the Crusader program, so there's no easy way to find out if there are any Crusaders in your area. If you are on Facebook, I would suguest reaching out to Michael Sanders, Mark Theurer or Jim Vidlak Jr, (BDJV here on Dakka) all of whom have been active with the WZR community in the US at some point and can hopefully put you in touch with someone.Jim used to represent Prodos at one point (US sales manager I think) but I don't think that's the case any more and I wouldn't want to speculate as to why.

Never the less, if you can find them, one of those guys can probably help you out.

Well 2.0 changed a lot of things -lot of players are still studing them. I'll bet we will see soon bat rep becausw the game is really good. Moreover we are still waiting for cards for the advanced game....

Thanks for the replies guys, and especially Jake as your insights have always helped me immensely here on DakkaDakka.

I figure it can't hurt to be cautious, so I tried to place a pre-order cancellation. We'll see how much grief I get for it, or if they force me to keep it.

Its tough. I've read the .pdf version of the rules, and seen Ash's little bat-rep, and the game looks terrific, and the setting seems cool... but I also know it is like pulling teeth around here to develop new communities. I'm THRILLED I helped Age of Sigmar thrive in a setting that normally only supported 40k and Warmahordes (and I love 40k so i'm at least playing that too), but anything of lesser scope goes unloved no matter the quality.

Meanwhile... the wife and I enjoy our little skirmish games where two folks can have fun on the cheap, any other community be-damned. And in that regard, I have purchased every Frostgrave book/supplement to date, loved them, and combined they still cost less than a Warzone hardcover.

2 Player set is a great way, provided it gives tokens and such that's needed.

I did see that Miniature Market now carries it. also great. They even had starters on sale for 29 bucks. Think most sold out now, so who knows when they will get more in stock

Hi, guys, I see that the Warzone Resurrection community has a hard time moving away from Facebook so I'm going to show here the next game news as it comes out.

Upcoming news for this year 2017.

Mule Armoured Carrier

Heavy Duty infantry carrier for all factions. Includes customization parts.

Within the armies of the various Megacorporations, there is one go-to vehicle that all of them swear by to get their troops into the thick of combat. The CLT-422, or Mule as it has been nicknamed, was designed by a conglomeration of engineers that was assembled from across the Megacorps to create a vehicle able to withstand several hits by anti-armour weaponry. It is a very simple machine to build and is able to be easily modified.

Mishiman mechanics overcharge their engines with high-octane fuel, Capitol tread-heads reinforce the tracks to allow it to rumble through terrain, and even the Brotherhood’s Mystics have been seen writing scriptures on it to ward against enemy spells. Unfortunately, even the Algeroth’s Tekrons have corrupted the design, turning into a rolling sacrificial altar.

Box contains:

1x Mule Armoured Carrier
1x Capitol customization set
1x Brotherhood customization set
1x Dark Legion customization set

Indigo

Legendary Brotherhood sniper Ava “Indigo" Jasco.

Born to an affluent Capitol family, Ava Jasco wanted for nothing growing up. She was a spoiled child and ceaselessly tormented her servants and staff. At the
age of thirteen, her sight began to fail and she began to exhibit signs of being ‘different’. Her parents, fearful and faithful followers of the Cardinal, took her to see their local missionary, who immediately recognized her condition not as being corrupted by the Dark Symmetry, but as slowly being infused by the Light. Against her tantrums and protests, she was left in the care of the Brotherhood. Over the next few months, her vision continued to diminish, but what replaced it was truly remarkable. She could no longer make out details or read, but if she focused, she was able to see objects clearly as far away as three miles. Losing her sight, but gaining an extraordinary power did not curb her haughtiness, in fact, it seemed to make her temper even worse.

She had been drilling with some acolytes who were to go on to become Visionaries when a cell of Heretics of Semai ambushed them, killing most of the staff and many of her classmates. Using a training rifle, she shot down each of the cultists, but was heavily wounded during the fight. Until this point she never
been in an actual combat situation before, but standing amidst the bloody bodies of her friends and teachers woke something up in her. She applied herself to learning more about her gift and how to utilize it best, and that was to become one of the best snipers in the solar system. Her skill with a sniper rifle reached the ears of Arch-Inquisitor Nikodemus, who personally selected Ava for a team of covert operatives that works closely with the Cartel. She was given the codename ‘Indigo’ and her call-sign is now feared even with a mere mention of it.

Box contains:

1x UniCast miniature

Strike Skimmer

Borne of the simple defensive necessity caused by the omnipresent threat of aggressive incursion by Capitolian forces into the Bauhausian swamp territories on Venus, the Strike Skimmer is perfectly suited to the semi-aquatic environments of its inception. The machine is as crude as it is functional, consisting of nothing more than an armoured hull, an over-powered propeller, and mounted weaponry.

PREORDER - SHIPPING STARTS 22TH OF JANUARY

Box Set contains 1x higly detailed hovercraft "Strike Skimmer"

Headhunters

From among the most bloodthirsty warriors of the Wolfbanes come the axe-wielding Headhunters. Relative outcasts of Wolfbane society, they tend to stick to those with similar sick interests and disposition. Few would choose to spend time with them anyway!

PREORDER - SHIPPING STARTS 22TH OF JANUARY

Box Set contains 3x higly detailed UniCast "Headhunters" miniatures.

Shadow Walkers

A rumour persists across the Solar System of a group of black clad assassins who dwell in the shadows. These Shadow Walkers hunt down their targets silently and without mercy before disappearing back into the darkness. Only death is left in their wake. Some say there is more to this rumour than myth alone.

PREORDER - SHIPPING STARTS 22TH OF JANUARY

Box Set contains 4x higly detailed "Shadow Walkers" UniCast miniatures.

What do you think these new releases?

Ilian is the Apostle of Dark Symmetry. This the new Dark Legion faction that has arrived in the new Warzone Resurrection 2.0. In the new game rules book: pag 428 (which you can download from the Prodos website) you have the army lists. They will be troops that can use powers of Dark Symmetry, dimensional portals, etc ... Although the army lists are in the rulebook, the miniatures for this faction have not yet been presented. As we approach the launch of the box will be unveiled.

I leave you the links to the download of the Corporate Warbook.

And the illustration that presents this next starter box. I look very handsome

Damn, that rip of of an M3 half track has some really dumb design choices. The exhaust coming right out the side will get torn off the first time you try to drive it off road unless only across nice fields and golf courses. Even in an urban environment it will get knocked around.

You are absolutely right, in our players community there is much controversy about this vehicle. To me, personally, I do not like anything, and the exhaust pipes on the right seem unnecessary and erroneous.

What do you think of the other miniatures shown?

Not exactly a corrupt kind of brotherhood. They are totally Dark Legion, children of Darkness, they are beings come from other planets or dimensions, or humans become heretics.
But it is true that they have Dark Gifts that allow them to perform "magic" as the members of the Brotherhood have the Art. But they do not have their origin in the brotherhood itself.

Ilian is the greatest of the Dark Apostles, dominates the Dark Symmetry, while Algeroth is the Lord of Necrotechnology, Semai is the Lord of Hate, Muawijhe is the Lord of Madness and Demnogonis of the Disease.

It is not yet known what the price will be. And I dare not speculate anything yet
But Prodos usually have a very good price in relation to what it offers, sure to be adjusted and correct.

It was a small tournament organised just for some friends for a total of 10 players.
A new, major tournament is expected in April, held in the PLAY games festival. We hope to see at LEAST 20/22 players!

And yes this game deserve a lot more love and attention.

I don't like the design of the newer miniatures. The originals are fine but around the time that Imperial was released they started to become overly stylised and frankly a bit daft.

I am still interested in the game although I haven't found anyone else interested locally.

I am thinking of making an Imperial force out of the Anvil Industry's module infantry though.

Honestly... yes, some of them have strange proportions and are not fine as the first one... but they remain good anyway.

Yep, and that's the least of it. After all, we moved away from HT designs for a reason. That tiny turret with what looks like a 40-50mm cannon? Where does it recoil?

But this is unfortunately the trend that Prodos seem to be following these days. Their KS designs were great, albeit with some quirks like no shoulder stocks on many rifles. Later resculpts added those elements in and thickened things like the swords that were far too thin, but now they are going down a heavily-riveted junkyard future. Check this preview out:

Pretty sure we have some players in the Midlands but I will ask around. As for the style, you are right but I think the biggest change (pun intended) was that of scale and proportion. My Hussars for example look like skinny teenagers compared to my Trenchers and their heads are about 50% larger. Heck, Drachen in her skull mask has a head that - volume wise - could fit twice into the Imperial NCO head lol

Hi all.

I bet there are people out there (Midlands,London, etc) who have stuff for WZR, but just don't ever play it. I am one of them.

Sadly, having been closely involved with Prodos, spending hundreds of hours of my time helping them improve their products and having co-written some of the rules for 2.0 and previous editions, I have no desire to give any of their games any more of my time and certainly none of my money. Let's just say I feel badly disappointed by their 'management' and how little respect they show to people (be it customers or collaborators).

The game mechanics are really good, many of the minis are great (although some recent designs are becoming silly), but Prodos just constantly make people walk away; there's a long list of former collaborators, backers, distributors and players who want nothing more to do with this lot ever again. Lack of any sort of strategic plan for the game, rubbish community support and plain boorishness of certain characters at Prodos means they are slowly killing off their own product, after a lot of early promise. Which is all very sad, really.

This is sad to read.

We are a community in Northern Italy and one of us collaborate with Prodos... never had a problem with them. They give us support and prize for our last tournament, listen to our advice about rules and game balance (we are discussing next errata) and of course no problems with orders and minis.

London players exist?! I am not alone!

But yeah, sad to see Prodos driving its own product to the ground. Latest round of releases makes absolutely no sense to me. Are they trying to compete with the big vehicles in 40k? Are they just printing what they personally feel like playing with? Given the current state of the game, I strongly doubt the majority of existing players will be up for spending £50 on a massive vehicle they could only use in 1000+ points games, and of course new starters will only become more intimidated. To top things off, the company's presence at Salute was pretty underwhelming: They forgot to bring along the Warzone promo minis which they had advertised (!) and they didn't even have a demo table or much in the way of painted minis. When I complained to the guy at the till that they are nowhere in the UK, he gave me a resigned look and said "yeah, it's on our plate to address in Q2 of this year". Well, it's almost May and I don't see any actions taken to promote Warzone in the UK, only a change in the release schedule to make it less friendly to new starters.

Heh, welcome to the wonders of transatlantic shipping. Try to buy something from the states to ship to the EU. Just as an example, the shipping costs for the currently running Eclipse Phase 2nd edition RPG to the EU are $55. For a $60 book. And then we'd get hit here with customs and VAT costs.

Yes, I'm sure that is what they are trying to do. My point is, in a game with very few new players, pushing out a bunch of big vehicles does nothing to help the game expand other than cater to the very few players who are hardcore enough to play games at the multi-thousand point cost level. Correct me if I'm wrong, but a beginner game clocks in at 500-600 points and most people regularly play at 1000 (I've yet to play a game at that level and there is always a LOT on the board on both sides). I think the "armored assault" releases would've been fine in a couple of years, maybe even a few months if the game was gaining an audience. Right now I worry they're more likely to drive potential new players away (OK except the dragon bikes, those look cool and are likely to make it in a 500pt game).

Hmmm this seems to be in the wrong order.

A few months back at this point I remember them showing a 2 player starter box cover art and saying it was coming soon. That's going to be the way to get people into the game.

Yet I see a bunch of vehicles coming soon now. You need a solid player base before releasing bigger stuff.

Its cool, but as a potential new player, I have no interest unless I can get me and a buddy to be able to affordably get into the game with a good starter set

Yeah, I know it's late. Unfortunately I was in the midst of a move when the program ended. Just found my tube of posters while cleaning and remembered the credits I had waiting. Suppose I could reach out, just didn't know if anyone actually got anything out of it.
