A large number of Warhammer hobbyists are collectors at heart. Much as we might poo-poo GW's statement about the GW hobby being about collecting GW miniatures, many of us have a Gollum-like tendency towards squirrelling away limited edition goods, be they third party primarch figures, or Games Day figures from the nineties.

I've personally managed to acquire a number of the female Cadian/commissar conversion kits created and distributed by the Phoenix Wargames Club the better part of a decade ago. I've also got some of those gorgeous truescale marine conversion kits Anvil Industries did before they got C&D'd by GW, and the corresponding ones sold by Chapterhouse. I've just been lucky enough to score one of the vic miniatures Kolonel Elisabeth Dietrich to stash away next to last year's Adepticon model by her. And last but not least, I also managed to grab some of a very small run of LE IG jacket torsos by good ol' Col. Gravis.

So, what rare miniatures have you got lurking in your modelling cabinets?

I have a Fine Molds 1/72 scale Millennium Falcon that I acquired when Fine Molds brought it back on a limited reissue last year (shortly before their Star Wars license expired) and it is now discontinued. It retailed for around $200 (give or take, depending on the exchange rate between USD and the yen) and is now going for $400+ on eBay. Before it was brought back for the reissue, it was going for as much as $500-$600. Depending on what happens with future Star Wars models, it might be worth that much again.

I've got a Chaos Dwarf Wizard, a handful of KS exclusives, all of the Warlord Games day minis, and the frothers charity Tank Girl & Booga from last year.

Most of my IG are now OOP as well, including the 2nd Ed Yarrick, and I think all of the metal characters from 6th Ed.

I had a few other special edition GW/FW pieces but they were mostly finecast so I got rid.

Hmmm tricky as I have quite a few but my favs are;

The Chainsaw Warrior 3 mini set but the main one serves as my IG Colonel.
Chainsaw wizard used as a IG Priest.
Mad Donna Ulanti.

Not really LE but worth allot; a whole army of '86-90 Dwarves, probably 3-4000 points worth including orginal slotta Bugman's regiment and Dragon Company x2, flame cannon and 2x Goblobber. These are my addiction, my obsession, my precious!

A bunch of OOP FW stuff, the best one being Shadowsword #98 (out of at least 1500-2000) and a set of the interior detail parts for it:

(Not my tank, mine's still in the box waiting for me to have the confidence to build and paint it.)

I have an entire Chaos fleet for Man O'War consisting of 3 Hellgalleys, 3 Ironsharks, 1 Plague ship and 1 Tzeentchian flying fortress. And no less than three (yes, 3) unused, mint condition mast sprues that I need to make moulds of.

After that there is my old Imperial Steam Tank, a series of 1st edition (pre-slotta) Citadel mini's, Praznagar, the Prince of Agony, A Greyseey character I cant remember the name of - hes the one whom recaptured the Black Arc from the Amber Wizards, a MK1 Rhino, and some other little things including a Matchbox Churchill AVRE (in need of some repairs (and still at my old school in the display cabinet))

The closest I have is this guy:

I believe it was a GW webstore exclusive a few years back. Hardly the rarest thing about, but seeing as I was given it for free and it goes for abou £25 on Ebay, I reckon I was pretty lucky there. Not that I'd ever sell it, it's too cool!

Some of my LotR stuff may end up more valuable in time (and there are plenty I wish I got years ago, seeing the resale prices now that make it impossible to get them). Ultimately, though, no matter the kit's rarity, it's worth more to me as something to paint up and play with than sitting in a box gathering dust and value. I've never bought into this 'keep it in the box' idea, for game stuff, action figures, whatever.

And I definitely want me one of those!!!

I also just remembered that I have two Terminator conversion kits from Irina_est, who vanished off the face of the earth a few years ago. Here's a picture of one (thousand sons terminators) minus the gorgeous intricate shoulder pads they came with, I can't find a picture of one of the other on the web, but it's a set of six generic heresy terminator armour conversion kits.

I don’t think I’ve got anything that could be classified as “rare” Everything I've picked up has been off the shelf of a FLGS. That said, I’ve got a shedload of really, really, old stuff.

A bunch of metal squats. Rarity is relative, but they're apparently desireable that I could never afford them via ebay.

As for real rarities, I've got lots of figs that most folks have never seen, but they're not necessarily valuable, just old.

I still kind regret selling the set of space dwarves that Bob Olley sculpted for the "Simtac" company. Those were Rare and valuable.

Turns out I have a fair amount of limited edition or just ancient stuff.

Some of my oldest things are an Ambull and an original Land Raider.

But I have tons of things, such as this, and this, and both of these guys and two of these guys, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and her, and her, and this.

By far though, the one rare thing that I have that I love the most, is the full Skullz Adeptus Mechanicus set.

I have:

Unreleased Inquisitor Scale Necron Warrior (looks like the 2nd edition metal warriors)

Unreleased Epicast Knight Titan (finally have official rules for it)

A bunch of original run Harlequins including the Solitare (Bought all 25 of them for $30 about 8 years ago)

OOP Dreamcast resin 15mm Leviathan Crusader

OOP Dreamcast Gabriel Knight (the resin one that GW made them discontinue)

Unreleased Armorcast titan heads

(I almost bought an Armorcast Warlord titan, but the guy was a crook and sold it to a number of different people and never sent it to anyone)

Almost forgot that I also have the The Chaos Sorcerer with three arms from Games Day. I might have two of them actually. They're lying around somewhere still in their blisters. Also have Nemetis the Sacrilegious model from the Devourers of Vile-Tis faction from Confrontation. Picked him up back when Confrontation was still around for a Tomb Kings army that never happened, but I still want to paint him up. He's a fantastic model:

I have a Forge World Maximilian Weiseman Baneblade that I got from a friend of mine and is still being worked on. Otherwise I have that Cadian Standard that has been already posted, a set of Lizardman Skink Horned Ones somewhere in my basement, a pile of random metal Space Wolf marines, a lord Solar Macharius, an old commissar yarrick with the crab claw and an old apothecary from Rogue Trader.

Edit: I forgot that I have Gotrek and Felix models that I have no idea how old they are. I have never seen them before or since I got them so they are collectable to me. (and all my Steel Legion... all Pewter GW is collectable in my book)

Rackham Titan Dragons, Tarascus, Tir-Na-Bor Steam Golems, and the Mid-Nor Hydra.

The popular Ilyad Vorags - the Priestess, Slayer, Champion, and Virago.

All the Kingdom Death First Run editions.

But perhaps the rarest, and hardest to find - the Ilyad Limited Edition Desdemone. This one (http://www.coolminiornot.com/133492?browseid=11198251) is painted by Bragon on CMON.

I have a lot of stuff, hah.

I've got Games Day models still in the package from yeeeears ago, I have several of the web exclusives that have come out over the years (I have duplicates of many, as well. Can't have too many of something limited), some third-party sculpts of the Emperor and Roboute Guilliman, a lot of other stuff still in box from back in the day that sell for a lot, old limited Black Library releases (4th Company Ultramarine Captain Uriel diorama). I also have what I consider to be a very valuable army of about 165 Steel Legion infantry, and a bunch of Steel Legion commissars as well.

My best stuff is a huge box full of absolutely vintage Dwarfs from back in the 80s. Pre-slotta stuff, just about everything from the Stuff of Legends Dwarf section is in there, some of it in multiple quantities. I'm actually trying to sell it currently, because I hate Dwarfs from all Fantasy franchises ever, and even the collector in me wanted them to be gone from my sight.

Here are some pics of only some of my stuff - obviously they are not mine since most of it is on display or stored safely:

Not really sure what I have that may be considered rare or valuable. I do have a ridiculous amount of 2nd Edition metal Necrons. I've got that one FW boarding marine event model. In my Dwarf army I have some of the old Drunken Dwarves and really old Longbeards models. I suppose my Ramilies Star Fort for BFG would be considered rare now, as well as the AdMech fleet I have. Oh, I also have an Imperator Titan (Epic sized) somewhere.

Sergeant Centurius is my favorite, but I have loads of them, some Games Day limited miniatures from Tau, Cadians at parade rest, to a Space Wolf Rune Priest. The Skulls Sticker program miniatures. Oh, another favorite where I about fell out when I saw him is the Blood Angel Captain shown on the box cover of 1st ed, found him on Ebay in Britain so I bought two. Gotrek and Felix, came in individual little foil bags, the more recent Space Marine Captains GW released I think last year.
I'm a sucker for limited, and dang Golden Ticket offers... : /

A while back I bought a 1/10 scale bolt pistol. It is metal, and quite big (larger than a 40k scale heavy bolter).

I'm not really sure if it is valuable or not. I was considering using it as a weapon on a Nemisis Dreadknight. I always thought that a mech-suit would look cool with a giant pistol. Probably count it as a heavy psycannon or something.

There was a time when you could special order anything from the Citadel back catalog if you had the mold numbers. I was able to score two sets of these:

A cool dozen each of the Melnibonean infantry and cavalry from the long-expired Eternal Champion license. From my own collection, I have the Elven Attack Chariot holding pride of place in the center of an all-Jes Goodwin wood elf army dating back from WHFBv2 or before.

Hmm, I have the LE. Inquisitor Gideon Lorr - he can sell for quite a bit on Ebay (and took me ages to track down at a semi-decent price).

I also have the LE Ogre Kingdoms Tyrant, who's sorta rare now.

By rarity - I have one of the 500 original Freebooter minis Pirate Girl models. (complete with certificate and everything). But just a few weeks ago missed out on the 5th anniversary Diorama Ive long sought (because, of all reasons, I plain forgot about it and never bid).

Plus I have a number of OOP metal minis of old character models for Dwarves, Lizardmen, Skaven. Some of which are near impossible to find and sell for above new prices.

HBMC - Got another one on the way i snagged off ebay for £25 because it has a broken horn (like mine)
10 min repair job

Guessing the bottom horn had a weak casting?

Also on the lookout for more as i missed a Dactylis thismorning for £65.

That would mean i have 1 of every armorcast nid model, minus the pod and the unreleased trygon.

The pod isnt too bad but finding the trygon is like hunting a unicorn.

Bottom horn is what hits first when the Exocrine is dropped....

Armorcast made Exocrine, Malefactor and Haruspex. Pod was made by Epicast, Dactylis was made by the US Forge World.
Trygon master was never even close to being finished and none were ever cast, so that may be tough (as in impossible) to find.

Tim

I have both of the female Marines and the head on yours is definitely different from the ones in the catalog pics. Almost looks like there is green stuff at the neck that would indicate a head swap (completely justified as that head is pretty bad)? Do you know the story behind your mini?

Nothing terribly rare or valuable. Some Games Day minis like the Black Orc, Archaon, Kroot Shaper, Fantasy Chaos Lord, Wolf Priest, and Dwarf Daemonslayer. Some minis that were released with the old Summer Battle Tours like the Cadians at Rest and the Marauder Champion. Some Army Box exclusives like the Tau Ethereal, Orc Standard Bearer, and Dwarf Standard Bearer. I have a couple OOP Forgeworld terrain pieces like the Basilisk Emplacement and Hydra Emplacement. And I have a resin Valkyrie and Mars-Pattern Baneblade #1006.

There's no green stuff, that's some residue from a long-stripped paint job. Several years ago I collected Rogue Trader models. This was before they got hot so I was paying like $2-3 a figure or cheaper if I bought lots from people clearing out their attics. I got over a hundred RT-01 plastic guys that way for pennies a figure. Anyway, she was in one of those lots and stood out to me because of the different hair.

Just because something is old, doesn't mean its collectable. There needs to be a demand for it in order for it to be of any value. In my case, I have 20 of the metal Dias damonettes that I know I could probably get a good price for. However the three Ork Goff Rockers that I have, while older, have a much smaller collectabilty ratings as I probably could only give them away.

Quite a few GD exclusives, Archaon on foot for example. I have some rare LotR figures including an alternative pose of Lurtz with a bow that seems to fetch a lot on eBay the couple times a year one pops up. Oh and inquisitor Gideon Lorr in blister.

Also less rare things like a Wulfen squad, lots of SoB, FW event-only's, should really catalogue my collection there;s a lot in there I know I have but can't remember off the top of my head...

I like collecting the harder-to-find Kroot pieces:

I just ordered this guy off eBay, and am expecting him soon:

I think the hardest pieces to find will be these two:

I have the complete Gotrek and Felix diorama (Gotrek, Felix, Snorri, Max and Ulrika) including the full resin base, all rock bases and even a spare set of legs for Ulrika. All unassembled and never painted.

Also a full Malakai Makaisson Goblin Hewer, sealed Harry the Hammerer, and a couple of other things from the same period. Damn those models are lovely but I can't open them until all the other projects are done.

I have the old Citadel Emperor dragon from the 80's

http://www.solegends.com/citdragon/ta6emperor/index.htm

My first miniatures were old Caldur Craft medievals, I still have the bombard from the st, its the first mini I painted back in 1981.

Other than that most of my stuff is fairly generic and from the late 90's and ten years onwards for Gw and everything else afterwards.
I have a lot of rare AT-43 stuff, but the only other hard to get stuff were the custom Moa rough riders made by a fan project in the pre chapterhouse years.
Mty miniatures collection doesnt have a lot thats special.

My RPG and boardgame collection on the other hand....

Just looked up the cost of my Necromunda "Mad Donna" on ebay. Jeez, and I thought regular necro figs were overpriced!

Hmm, I have the LE. Inquisitor Gideon Lorr - he can sell for quite a bit on Ebay (and took me ages to track down at a semi-decent price).

This guy?

I have three of him.
He wasn't LE over here (at least NOT in the Sydney store. He was in a blister ON THE RACK next to the other DH/WH stuff like GK blisters. ).
That's why I have three of him. He's a cool model though. Lots of people want to buy one off me - but I didn't buy them as investments - I bought them as conversion fodder and then lost the love for the game - so they're in the bits box, unharmed - can't bring myself to sell them I bought them because I liked them. If I was going to resell them, I'd not have bought them to start with.

LOL, I had 't realized that Inquisitor was limited. Picked one up for $3 a couple months ago from a local shop that sells some used stuff. Extra glad I did, seeing some of the asking prices for him, as it's easily one of my favourite models.

Probably a squad of the top left terminator in this page http://www.solegends.com/citcat1989/cat1989p048-01.htm I also have some bits a bobs from earlier but I think they are the most unusual other than possibly a pre slotta marine.

I don't own a lot that I know the value of. The pin I wear on my lapel is probably the most valuable small piece I own, before we get into large boxed kits and full ranges. I only know because someone tried to pinch it.
Plus the one I had on the strap of my figure case. Replaced with a badly painted press-mould greenstuff copy after someone tried to remove it. On the plus side the copy has correctly snapped daggers so it's A) cooler and B) useless for a thief or recaster.

In terms of other companies and desirability, I own a complete range of Wolfen of Yllia (in most cases, twice) and any Devourers of Vile Tis that match. I love me some big cuddle-dogs.
I own a Dark Sword Miniatures Golden Dragon of Chaos boxed and signed by several people including Elmore. There's no explanation as to who the other signatures are.

Pet Chemist has walked past, so I asked his, and he says, "FW Weathertop? Oh! I know! The Nottingham Games Workshop Robin Hood from the day they opened..." I'm not sure about collectible but it is damn funny.
He also used to demo-paint for Citadel very early on, so keeps remembering things I don't know half a damn about.

I have quite a lot of old miniatures.

I have some bashed up old lead toy soldiers from the early 1900's.

Brittans figures from various eras - The Knights are my favourite.

I have a Trish Morrison Bugmans Beer Cart. Bugman and his rangers and some Marauder Miniatures dwarfs - I'm pondering getting these pro painted as I really like them.

I have a lot of 2nd ed Metal Cadians which are going to be resurrected along with some original plastic storm troopers.

Lots of Necromunda figs, which I am debating whether to sell or to paint up. (procrastination is the sign of a good mini hoarder).

I have a 2nd ed metal termagant, 2 3rd ed biovores (1 is partially converted with a genestealer head) .., I have a couple of warhammer quest squigs.... (I'm not sure how rare the warhammer quest squig growler is...I got both of them in a lot of squigs somebody was selling...had to look them up as I didn't recognize them.)

And while it's not a mini....I realized this a couple of weeks ago..the dice that came with the black box D&D set in 1991 are still in my dice bag.

I don't have many "collectible" GW models, just a few RT marines and vehicles and some oop Inquisitorial acolytes that got rolled into the sisters codex.

Outside of GW I have a handful of Kingdom Death limited releases, and some low-print-run anime garage kits.

I only have a handful or two of GW metals, none of which I believe to be particularly rare or valuable - a pair of Techmarines, a captain, a standard bearer, etc. All OOP, but also all quite common, in their day.

Closest stuff I have to "collectible" is probably Mantic stuff. There's the messenger bag that their first(?) Crazy Christmas box came in, which doesn't appear in their webstore, and a pair of Undead Standard bearers (one earned, one sent as an apology for part of an order delayed by the Kickstarter fulfillment crunch) which appear to be points-only items. Have a set of Infinity factions pins from The War Store's Black Friday freebies a few years back, too, which I haven't seen for sale. Again, though, none of that seems terribly rare or valuable. I don't tend to get rid of models, so something I own may one day hold value above MSRP, but I haven't been collecting long enough for scarcity to have set in.

I've got her, too. And another female in power armor. They are quite possibly my oldest models (but not the ones I've owned the longest).

Also, I have this gal: http://www.solegends.com/citle2000/specialist/bonnieannerson/index.htm

And a few of the Daleks from here... http://www.solegends.com/citdrwho/index.htm (remember, kids! GW made models before Warhammer existed)

This lovely gal: http://www.collecting-citadel-miniatures.com/wiki/index.php/File:Unreleased_-_Undead_Lahmian_Vampire_1.jpg She gets a lot of comments when I whip out my VC army...

Lenny (http://www.collecting-citadel-miniatures.com/wiki/index.php/File:Unreleased_-_Squat_2nd_Edtn_Cyberslayer_3.jpg) and Squiggy here (http://www.collecting-citadel-miniatures.com/wiki/index.php/File:Unreleased_-_Squat_2nd_Edtn_Cyberslayer_2.jpg)

And a few of the others that have already been posted.

Some of my old and possibly collectable miniatures...

CM2 Gargantuan Fire Giant Lord ~c.1985

Various chaos wizards / sorcerors from the mid-late 90s plus a chaos familiar

LE9 - Space Skeleton; LE6 Space Santa; RTLE Spaced Out / Christmas Marine

DRAG7: The Dragon Masters (sadly the leg attached to the rock is broken, one day I will fix it...)

And finally my favourite and most prized GW piece which is not a miniature...

Golden Demon Pin Badge ~c.1991 (I think) Received this for winning a regional Golden Demon (Beckenham GW) and got a free ticket to the Games Day that year...

The rarest items I own are all part of my Battletech collection. I have a sealed blister pack of the 2003 LE Leviathan warship. Only 120 were cast.

These guys are my pride and joy, though. Battledroid versions of the Shadowhawk and Griffin `Mechs.

I haven't seen sealed copies of either of those miniatures sell for less than $200 a piece, and that is when they rarely show up for sale.

I also have a ceramic Mitic Maria Leopard dropship. Those are pretty rare. The one I have (seen below) was an artist proof given to the president of FASA.
