Nazi Germany declares war on Europe and its army is unstoppable. Prodigious beings appear on the battlefields to support the Wehrmacht's efforts: flying men shower flames upon the enemy; women wearing iron masks punch through tank armour; bloodthirsty beasts devour entire regiments. The world is about to succumb to the might of the Third Reich.
Aaron Spiegelmann, a Jewish scientist who escaped from Mauthausen concentration camp, is the Allies' only hope of stopping the Nazis. Spiegelmann is the genius who created the Wunderkammer, a new technology that allowed the Germans to create real superheroes with extraordinary powers. With his guidance, the US army launches Project H.O.P.E. in order to produce their own genetically modified humans to be deployed on the battlefields.
As WW II rages on and every army creates its own Meta-Humans and war machines, Natural Prodigies, unscrupulous Adventurers and even Warlocks' secret enclaves step into battle. From European battlefields to Pacific waters, a conflict like never before is unleashed and spreads with no boundaries: humanity will forever remember it as the first War of Wonders.
War of Wonders Miniature Game is a 30mm strategic skirmish game set in a grim alternative WW II where Meta-Humans, Warlords, Prodigies, Adventurers and Machine Men fight alongside the Axis and Allied armies for victory on the battlefield. In War of Wonders you can re-enact WW II battles, deploying superheroes with unbelievable powers to lead your troops or create your own personal scenarios.
War of Wonders Miniature Game is based on Project H.O.P.E. Rpg by authors Simone Fini and Riccardo Giuliani, published by Limana Press.

Hello All
thanks to Ernster for opening this thread, I'm here to introduce myself and to show something more on this upcoming game, War of Wonders MG.
My name is Alessio and i'm the art director of this project, made by Limana Games, an Italian printing company, specialized on Rpgs, sci-fi novels, card games and, from now on, wargames.
War of Wonders is based on our main roleplaying game, Project H.O.P.E. an uchronic story based on WWII era and inspired by Golden Age Comics.
We added more "dark" nuances on the plot, including dark magic, esoteric powers and artifacts.
If you like Invaders (and Cap) and Hellboy you'll be in the right place.
War of Wonders Miniature Game is the skirmish game related to Project H.O.P.E. so it has the same background and flavour. It will be a fast paced skirmish game fitted for small gaming tables (36"x36" or 48"x48"). Miniatures will be casted in white metal except for large figures, some limited edition figures and accessories which will be casted in grey resin.
We're planning to start a crowdfunding project. We prefer to do a Kickstarter project, but since we're Italian we must do a joint venture with another foreigner company (we having an agreement but i can't tell you more for the moment.)
At the moment we're showing on our Blog and Facebook page some concepts of the factions (Allies and Axis of course): the plan (or better DA KUNNING PLAN, since we're in Dakkadakka ) is to produce an army list for almost every country involved in WWII. So you'll have not only Third Reich troops or US troops, but also Britons, Italians and Japanese.
In regard to Japs, Ernster ask me to show some related stuff as first post, and so I'll do
this is Yashamaru a "shinobi" (magic warrior) from the Village of Water, master of the esoteric combat techniques and japanese martial arts.
I'll post more info about this project soon, in the meanwhile you can take a look at our blog http://war-of-wonders-miniature-game.webnode.it/news/the-rise-of-yashamaru/ and our Fb page https://www.facebook.com/WoWMG
thanks

Weird War II with Pulp and Super-Hero elements?
YES!

The superhero stuff doesn't interest me too much, but that aside, I'm always down for wacky Weird War stuff.

Seems very much like Godlike in tabletop form. That's a good thing.
Yeah, color me interested. (Supers are probably my Highlord moment.)
That said, show some more of the pictures here. And hope you get a Kickstarter company figured out; many here are (rightfully) wary of the IndieGoGo campaign platform.

Post by: Alpharius
Oh yeah - KICKSTARTER is a must for me.
Indie-no-go is a NONSTARTER for me!
Also, the concept art does look great - but another 'yes please' vote to seeing a miniature or too as soon as possible!

thank you for your feedback, I'll try to post one picture (concept, manual illustration, 3d miniatures etc.) a day.
We'll do our best to do a Kickstarter I promise

Done, Weird War II was put in front as it is the genre of the tabletop game. Other examples include
Incursion
Dust Tactics
Up and coming, Fireteam Zero
Tanhauser
weird War II is a Generic term that was used even back when comics had that title. I do not believe that pinnacle has a TM on that title other than the RPG.

I would rename the title again. It needs to have the WWII descriptor at least, if not also supers or alternate.

Hello guys
let me introduce you the Yashamaru's companions, the Crimson Dragons (I know, it's not so original but i love banal but evocative names )
Crimson Dragons are a special troop trained to follow Meta-Humans in their raids in the Pacific ungle.

Post by: RaptorusRex
This seems quite interesting, though I have a question.
Will the Polish Resistance be getting models?
30672
Post by: Theophony
If we're talking wants, I want Native American windtalkers. (Telepathic communications specialists )
94141
Post by: Wolfbane1968
Theophony RaptorusRex since War of Wonders is based on a Rpg we have many characters including a Partizans squad (French not Polish actually, The Maquis) and a Native American Meta-Human called Windtalker: I don't remember his powers maybe he's a telepath
So if things go well after Kickstarter, who knows? we would like so much to produce as many characters as possible.

Thanks for the assist on the tittle Alpharius.
I really like the Japanese paratrooper with the exception of the shoulder mounted gun or grenade launcher.

another small preview, the first 3D from our digital sculptor, the Arischer Korp soldier. It will be the main support troop for Third Reich Meta-Humans. It will be realized with a choice of different arms, heads and weapons and two different poses, standing and running.
30672
Post by: Theophony
And now the important questions begin. Plastic, resin, metal, or play-doh? If plastic what type? And who are you contracting with to create the models, actually producing them?
68139
Post by: Barzam
Could swear they said they'd be metal.
Liking the German design. Please tell me you have some heavily armored ones, too.
123
Post by: Alpharius
They did!
Human sized are in 'white metal' and larger figs will be 'grey resin'.
Which I think means 'real' resin (think forge world) and not PVC/'resin plastic' - at least I hope so!
94141
Post by: Wolfbane1968
Theophony all the model will be produced in white metal except for limited edition miniatures or large figures like mechas or big monsters which will be casted in gray resin (classic "Forgeworld" type not vynil or plastic resin).
Human size figures will be 30mm high and 25mm round base. Larger figures will have 30mm and 50mm round bases. We're planning also to produce texturized top for them (made in white metal too)
Barzam special corps will have different uniforms, and, yes also heavy armors
The first wave of miniatures will be created and produced for us by Greebo Games. If any of you play Bloodbowl maybe knows Greebo's high quality white metal figures.
This is the first figure Greebo did for us, Doctor Nachtmahr:

Looks interesting! I hope it's Greebo Games that is handling all the miniatures here, and that Eastern Front Studios isn't involved? I ask because it seems you ran a Kickstarter for a translation of the H.O.P.E. RPG (which didn't fund) together with EFS back in 2012. EFS is still struggling to get minis out the door for three other Kickstarters they ran in that year (I'm still waiting on my dwarf gladiators), so I'd be wary of getting in bed with them again.

But for what concerns this project Eastern Front Studios is not involved in War of Wonders Kickstarter in any way.

Will the rules cover 'normal' vehicles too though?
Tanks, Jeeps, APCs, etc.?
94141
Post by: Wolfbane1968
Alpharius not at the moment. The game is thought for quick skirmishes and raids. To be honest i like mechanized infantry, and I pushed a little the rules' author for insert rules for small vehicles as troop carriers (SdKfz, Halftracks, Jeep or Kubelwagen etc).
30672
Post by: Theophony
If by 'normal' in a weird war style you mean walking tanks, giant monsters and mono wheels of death. Then probably , or did you mean GI jeeps and silly tanks with treads?
123
Post by: Alpharius
This saddens me a little...I do love tanks, and having super-humans and supernaturals contend with Panzers, Tigers and Shermans is always good fun!
Oh well - maybe in an expansion!
47547
Post by: CthuluIsSpy
Speaking of mechanized infantry, will it all be supermen and experimental weapon toting troopers / special ops, or is there still some room for rank and file cannon fodder soldiers?
94141
Post by: Wolfbane1968
CthuluIsSpy yes "cannon fodder" troops are the backbone of every army, still here in WoW MG. of course.
to be more clear this is the "ranking"
Veteran Troops (Arischer Korps, and Crimson Dragons): no superpowers, only special weapons.
Heroic Troops:no superpowers, but special rules: these squad are named and work as support of a specific Meta-Human. i.e. The Flag, our Allied major hero, has the Devilfsh Squad for support /(see imagine below)
at the top we have the Meta-Humans of various kinds (including cyborgs and warlocks).

How big is that mech compared to a regular person?
I like it's design. Lop off the face and it will be great for any setting. Any chance of a ranged variant on that mech?
94141

Barzam proportions:
i never thought about a ranged variant, but as you said before "maybe in an expansion!"
68139
Post by: Barzam
Ooh, big then. I might need one of those.
94141
Post by: Wolfbane1968
the model should come out 90-100 mm (around 4 inches) in height. I really hope we can put in production this puppy. It would be a dream which becomes reality.
47547
Post by: CthuluIsSpy
If that's the mech, how big are the weapons? Also, for a ranged variant, perhaps a cross bow or bow that fires anti-tank or cluster missiles?
94141

Here's another 3D model we received from the sculptor. It needs some modifications and improvements (position of the neck for example) but it's anyway 90% final.
The model will come with a top for the round base which depicts the Meta-Human's powers: as you can see on a post before, the Yashamaru concept has a water wave shaped like a dragon head on his back, since his powers are related to water.
Brunhild will have a bunch of debris and ruins to represent her super strenght

I am really digging the look and idea of this campaign! Looking forward to it hitting.
Brunhilde the render is a little disappointing though. She doesn't have the same flow as the artwork, I think due to the rather blocky breast plates (salad bowls?) Instead of flowing with the rest of the shape they sort of just look stuck on.
The steel suits look cool, but I wonder where the arms and legs of the human go? The legs might work, but seem really wide spread. The arms though, wouldn't he need like 3' shoulders for that to work? Or are they supposed to be inside the chest armor?

Hello all! I'm back after a busy week and a 2 days gaming convention where we showed WoW MG for the first time
Just to tell you that we have here the pre-production miniatures! Here you can see some samples of the two superheroes! Enjoy :
Brunhild
Brunhild heads details
Brunhild base (the top of the 25mm plastic base)
The Flag
We're discussing about a custom base top for The Flag too, I'm uncertain about that, what do you think?
Also I owe a little explanation to Wehrkind about the different armor of Brunhild : the art is not the concept which was sent to the sculptor as reference, you can see the concept here: http://files.war-of-wonders-miniature-game.webnode.it/200000020-e2f52e3eef/BRUNHILDEBLOG.jpg. Miniature concepts often differs from illustrations, since they must enhance some details (the breast plates) and omit some others. The art is based more on the artist's fantasy, so much more related with comics.
As you can see, the 3D model was... truly not final comparing to the metal casting , we're thinking of not publishing other 3D renders from now on, since they appear really too different from the final model.
Talking about the steel suit, again, this is only an art and not the concept: My idea was to create something like Ironmonger suit (if you've seen the first Iron Man movie you know what I'm talking about) so the man inside should be in a cockpit inside the chest of the machine. In the colored figure the head is maybe too big, so it appears as a real "suit". By the way this is only one of three different kinds of steel suits
It's all for now, I hope you like the figures as I did

since some here and also on the Kickstarter's page ask for rules I can show you my humble contribute for the ruleset, the Meta-Humans stat cards.
A brief explanation of stats: W = Willpower, S = Strenght, M = Movement, A = Actions, R = Ranged combat, C = Close combat, I = Injuries, T= Toughness, D = Dodge
HTH = Hand To Hand.
Measures are in inches.
Also troop squads will have stat cards (I'm wokring on them right now).
Of course these samples are not final: I used the first images of painted miniatures I will swap them with more detailed ones once they'll be available.

Even if you don't have any rules to show yet, it might be nice to at least give a hint as to mechanics and game style. What dice does it use? What size of board is suggested? Do the mechanics have a lot of grit and detail, or are they rather open? Just something, you know?

tomorrow we'll post the beta ruleset, I work yesterday to give them a good graphic aspect
By now I can tell you that a 10 sided dice is needed, a 36"x36" board is enough, but even better is a 48"x48"
AFAIK mechanics are easy to learn but not simplistic and contain some nifty (in my opinion of course) solutions: I noticed for example that you can split your squad in two (no squad cohesion): I found it useful during the playtest since it allowed me to perform some tactic tasks like swift raids with 2 or 3 figures only.
Another edge is how Meta-Humans are depicted in the game: they have a peculiar characteristic (named Heroic Willpower) which helps them to survive longer on the battlefield and to give support to troops in Panic.
that's all for now Automatically Appended Next Post: We're almost there guys
this is a sneak peek of the British troops which we want to produce. as Germans and US troops they'll be multipose. You'll have enough components to create 4 "11th Scottish Commando" or 4 "Burma Lions" (Chindits)

Congratulations of the funding.
Lots of time left to hit stretch goals. If at all possible, you should be flooding various wargame info outlets with pictures and concepts and anything else you can think of to excite the undecided. Automatically Appended Next Post: I skimmed through the beta rules. Without playing them, I can't address the details of them, but in general, they look pretty clean and quick playing.
I would make a few changes for the English language version, though, just to make things easier and/or go with standard terminlogy.
For instance, Injuries is the model stat. It is the number of Wounds it can sustain. Straight forward enough, but why not just call the stat Wounds? Or a model will sustain an Injury, not a Wound? Wounds is a fairly common game stat in wargaming, I'd go with that, but either way, there just doesn't seem to be a reason to use two different terms.
Similarly, models can use their action to Watch. The 'industry standard' term is Overwatch. Amounts to the same thing, but it doesn't hurt to just use the term the player is expecting.
But from what I've read, I like it. Each squad member acting independently may make larger games go longer than they should, but at a true skirmish scale, there is nothing wrong with it.

RJVF thanks a lot for your compliments, we didn't expect to reach the goal so soon, but we really don't complain for that
I've chosen "Injuries" instead of "Wounds" for having a unique letter for each stat on the profile card (you can see the first two, the Flag and Brunhild in a previous post). But of course it could be changed if is not so clear. As Italian I don't know if "Injuries" could sound weird to an English or American people.
Thanks also for Overwatch instead of Watch too, we'll correct it in the further releases

Went and backed this once I saw the metals. Plus, they'll work very nicely with Malifaux, to an extent (at least The Flag). I plan to pick up 2 American squads and heroes as well as matching German ones.
Love that Doctor!

Not saying you have to have to change Injuries. I would just make the terms consistent. If the stat is Injuries, then models inflict an Injury per success, or sustain an Injury. Making the terms consistent just removes the question, "So what are Wounds, then?"

That does look really nice! This should really be getting more coverage. Any chance of seeing a painted German soldier in the near future?
