Yeah, Who are the Doom Team? No one knows for sure... But it's rumoured that when the Maelstroms Edge is real close and a Planet is in it's final stages of breaking up Epirian management send in a Doom team if stuff needs doing!
So here's the Plan. I'm going to turn squads of these guys ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ---> Into squads of these guys! ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓
Easy! All my guys are all going to be painted green and wear Pig Iron helmets.
I split two starter boxes of ME with ArbitorIan. I got all the Epirian Models Plus I bought; 1 extra Contractor sprue. 1 extra Scarecrow sprue. 1 extra drone sprue. So that I can max out my Epirian Units if I desire.
Five Contractor Engineers with two Aux Grenade Launchers 15pts
Journeyman Bot Handler with Aux Grenade Launcher 12pts
Five Contractor Engineers with two Aux Grenade Launchers 15pts
Five Contractor Engineers with two Aux Grenade Launchers 15pts
59pts
Plus 2x Apprentice bot handlers (for future spider squads)
Build Build Build!
Paint! Paint! Paint! Primed using Army Painter black primer undercoat. Then Dusted with Army Painter White primer. Then a good dose of Army painter 'GreenSkin' and then dusted from above with Humbrol Matt Grass Green. The Guns sprayed Army painter Platemail Silver.
Inky Ink. The dudes were hit hard with GW Biel-Tan Green shade. And the guns coated in Nuln Oil
This is THE modeling thread I've been waiting for- the Doom/MEdge crossover!
Very excited to see this progress, the contractors look excellent both in that neon green and with those helmets. I hope you won't deprive our friends in the P&M Blogs from seeing this there too!
Panic they are awesome! The helmets for perfectly. I'll be giving some serious thought to the Pig Iron helmets when I come to starting on the Epirians. It's gonna take me a while sadly - a lot of RL this year and a bit of a hobby queue already. I'll be trying to squeeze some MEdge in though. I'll be watching intently to your progress.
The Kaddar Nova's face paled, as he took in the sight before him. That was no ordinary Epirian force stood before him, no ordinary soldiers. The skill and assurance with which they moved, and those helmets - They were the Doom Squad! The venerable Karist Leader's plans all fell into pieces, and he called the general retreat, only to be met with the static of broken comm-channels. He looked up and saw a helmeted visage, standing in the door. It was over - his men weren't just dead, they were pulverised.
So then is Arbitorlan going to do his Karists in a demon theme? They've already got the minnows and angels, plus the Karists themselves could easily be zombies.
yeah,
The feedback here has been amazing
Last night I got a few hours painting and the contractors are about 50% done.
Will update soon

Awesome!
The Doom Team has Fan fiction! That was Lots of fun to read thanks!!
Accolade wrote:...I hope you won't deprive our friends in the P&M Blogs from seeing this there too!
I felt it was right to stick this blog here with all the other Maelstroms Edge stuff?
But If Yak, Lego or Mods want to move it to P&M that's cool??.
Accolade wrote:SAS isn't by chance working on any demon armies from Mars, are they?
There are no daemons in this universe as far as I know.
But I think there's plenty of scope for mad scientists creating unspeakable horrors in labs!
It would be easy to come up with Marines gone bad backed up by mechanical bio horrors drones
Stormwall wrote:Perfect timing with the new Doom 2016 game!
I just checked that out and it looks amazing!
Can't wait to play it on Playstation. So far my only game is Star Wars Battlefront.

As far as i know Ian's plans involves lots of pink paint!.
Yeah,
Huzzah!
I got the base colours down on all the troops
Clothing under layers - GW Camo Green
Helmet, boots and straps - GW Adeptus BattleGrey
Flesh - GW Elf Flesh
Visor - GW Polished Blue and edged with Chainmail
Metal bits - GW Chainmail
Guns cover - GW Abaddon Black
Tomorrow I'll do the Shading, highlights and guns.
Man, this is awesome! I could see the green on the finished model being just a bit brighter / more lively, and the back armor painted, like you mentioned on both.
Overall, freaking love it and the head swap is brilliant
Yeah,
Best laid plans.
All the washes were done today.
Was planning to do highlights after I walked the dog.
But during dog waking I some how ended up in the pub.
If you need someone to blame for lack of updates today.
His name is Chewie.
I was scared having read RiTides post before yours Panic, I thought that the dog had eaten them!
These are looking absolutely perfect, so much so that I am wondering if SAS didn't include helmeted heads to avoid litigation from id (or whoever owns their licenses now)
I both love and miss polished blue - great to see it getting some love here! The coat d'arms equivalent to it is spot on though, so if you find your old pot gumming up like mine did, opening a nice, fresh coat d'arms one is a joy.
Hey Panic, are you uploading pics taken with an iPhone? I think you are, because the native resolution of your pics is exactly what mine are. There is a bug where iPhone pics show up blurry, lego explains it here:
So, unfortunately you have to resize your pics to avoid that - I just do so in MS Paint, and save them as .png files so I don't lose any quality. I've done it to yours here so we can see them clearer - see below!
The trooper I resized to 700 pixels wide, group shot 1000 pixels wide, then I uploaded them to the gallery and selected "full size" instead of medium before copying the image code for the pics into my post here.
If you compare to your original images you can see how much clearer they are above (not counting the fact that I made them a little bigger):
Spoiler:
This happens a lot now in the P&M section and I think people don't even realize it, since everyone has iPhones! Maybe we can band together and get it higher on the "debug" list for lego
---
All that out of the way, man, love how these are turning out . Regarding the visors, they can't just be polished blue, right - now that I've got the sharper pic up, I can see some interesting effect on the first trooper's visor - how are you achieving this? Also, you're going to be painting the backpiece metallic or something, right?
RiTides wrote: Hey Panic, are you uploading pics taken with an iPhone? I think you are, because the native resolution of your pics is exactly what mine are. There is a bug where iPhone pics show up blurry, lego explains it here:
yup iPhone...
I tried a different app to save the image as a lower resolution,a dn posting full size here to see if that helps.
Been messing about making the guys more bright green...
Kept the new paint to the armour. what do you think? Better off dark?
The Journeyman helmet rocks. Makes him stand out as a officer.
But the apprentice bot handler doesn't stand out as much with the doom helmet so need two more fully enclosed helmets.
Anyone have two fully closed bot handler heads to trade? I have load of Epirian bits (all the regular heads and the bot handler heads with open visors and a few pig iron heads)
RiTides wrote: ...Regarding the visors, they can't just be polished blue, right - now that I've got the sharper pic up, I can see some interesting effect on the first trooper's visor - how are you achieving this?
I'm not shaking the polished blue before using it so there is a interesting swirl mix of ink with the metallic flakes.
and then I fine-lined the visor edges in chain mail.
RiTides wrote: ... Also, you're going to be painting the back piece metallic or something, right?
Bingo!
Contractors are the Epirian spine and so it feel fitting that they should have Epirian steel protecting their spines.
I have painted the central column of back plates chain mail.
Oh man, I love that central spine being painted steel! That's excellent
For the green, I definitely prefer the darker shoulder pads / armor!
I'm not sure if you've done anything different on the pants or not, but there seems to be a bit of variation. Imo the color / highlighting on the pants on the third model from the left (in the front row of this last pic) is absolutely perfect . There are some nice highlights on the pants there, but they aren't too bright overall themselves (whereas the bright test armor is just really, well, bright all around, rather than just on the edges!).
Those fully enclosed bot handler helmets are worth their weight in gold. If there's ever an Epirian upgrade sprue, I hope it comes with ten of them on it.
BobtheInquisitor wrote: If there's ever an Epirian upgrade sprue, I hope it comes with ten of them on it.
I keep bugging them about upgrade sprues, but they're all "Plastics are hard" and "We're not wizards" and "Seriously, what are you doing at my front door?".

Have you tried approaching their homes in fully enclosed helmets?
It's impressive what a simple head swap can do. With their regular heads, they look like the rent-a-cops the fluff makes them out to be, but these heads make them look like proper soldiers.
I ended up repainting painting all the shoulder pads goblin green and re-washing with 50/50 water and green wash. And then picking out the edges again with moot green.
I also edge highlighted the black bits on the Guns and Pistols with dark grey.
Command Guys! All 4 of my Bot handlers will have Maelstroms edge heads. The apprentices will have their heads swapped soon.
I painted the little arc notches in the bases red, blue or green to mark out who commands which squads.
Squad colour Yellow has been reserved for a Scarecrow commander and his Ai buddies...
Red Squad.
Blue Squad.
Green Squad.
And a few quick shots of the Dooy Guys searching some bunkers for key cards.
Red Squad.
Blue Squad.
Green Squad.
You click here to see how I made these buildings out of DIY supplies and the SAS terrain sprue.
They turned out brilliantly Panic. Well done. Any thoughts yet on the base theme? I want my Karists to be on an ice world, but can't decide where to have the Epirians - I like each army to have different bases
TP^DC Deputy Manager wrote: They turned out brilliantly Panic. Well done. Any thoughts yet on the base theme? I want my Karists to be on an ice world, but can't decide where to have the Epirians - I like each army to have different bases
Going to pick a base theme with ArbitorIan and we will both base our armies the same.
I quite fancy trying one of the new cracking paints that have appeared recently.
1) Humans done!
2) Drones start.
The apprentice bot handlers need some bots!
so I unclipped the bits for 8 spider drones.
Minimal trimming was required.
The Drone body has a mould line down each side that was easy to scrape off.
Don't they look cute??
Assembly is super easy took a about a 1hour from sprue to done!
Yeah,
They look great, it might be best to buy a few and check the size before buying in bulk.
as those heads look very heroic scale /comedy and the heads might not match the size of the contractors body/hands.
If that makes sense...
Yeah, I think MEdge models were trying to strike the right balance - so they aren't crazy far down the heroic spectrum, but still much more heroic than something like Infinity (where the models have to be much taller to keep the proportions right).
Those heads look really nice, TP^DC! I'm all about mixing up armies with headswaps
The drones do look cute so far . Regarding basing, Ramos Asura just made a sweet looking base using the new GW crackle paint, see it in his P&M thread here (also in spoilers below):
Yeah,
That Distress Paint looks very cool and loads of colours.
I think I'll buy a batch and use it for basing and also work it onto the buildings and terrain.
Drone update.
10 Fireflies built.
Painting the drones the same exact same colours as the humans.
I mounted the drones on spraying sticks...
Same plan as before.
Undercoated black and Dusted white.
Sprayed dark green all over.
Sprayed bright green from the top.
And then inked with GW green ink...
The inks have dried and they're ready for detailing.
Regarding the top pic, will the drones be getting a third color? I think they will need one - your Doom troopers have a really nice balance of colors with the skin, alternate green, and visor colors mixing up their appearance really well.
You might have already been planning to add one or more colors to them, but just wanted to put in a vote for that
yeah,
Thanks, I've not really planned any other colours.
however I regret making the front panel silver as it makes them look a little like an apache helicopter cockpit!
So I could maybe repaint those panels in flat squad colours red and blue
The camera lens will be a brighter red.
Hope to get the spiders finished up tomorrow and then the fireflies by the weekend.
Meaning I can move on to Robots!
yeah,
I best get painting!!! You'll be done in no time!
small progress on fireflies.
I painted the canopy Nose area black, I'm still not sure about the smaller central silver panel.
That may end up squad coloured.
I think Some number transfers might look good on these guys.

The assembly of these Robots is very easy. I looked at the examples on the ME website as a guide.
I imagined the Robotic pose I was going for and then started by gluing the models feet to the base... I then built them upwards I built one ScareCrow at a time to take advantage of the tacky repositioning as the glue dried.
Looking great . I love the silhouette of the model with antennae, but I think there's likely only enough bits for one or two to have them? Not sure how hard they'd be to scratch build or convert, but I feel like I need them for all my scarecrows... kind of like you felt for the drone handler helmet
Panic, I'm loving it! I'd like to see a condensed version of this thread so you can show people how quick and easy it can be to paint the miniatures, and make them look great!

You get an antenna backpack for each Scarecrow. It's on the sprue which only makes a single robot.
Nice going Panic I chose active poses for the Scarecrows I built so far, but I really like that group of yours standing around, must build some like that myself. Looks really good.
RiTides wrote: ...I love the silhouette of the model with antennae, but I think there's likely only enough bits for one or two to have them?...

Like bob says each Scarecrow comes on a single sprue, it has all the bits to make a regular scarecrow with either the clingfire or chemtek sprayers.
Plus the extra command head and command backpack.
So I have a bunch of extra command heads back packs and a few extra flamer/sprayers
I think the command back packs could be used to convert a spider drone to represent a bot handler in a AI only force
yeah, Update! I've played my first game! Woot! Check it out here <---
And this weekend I got the final paint on the ScareCrows.
Lead by T1N5 and his mini drone O4 I lifted the Maglock RailRifles up off the robots shoulders to improve their field of vision to the left. The command Scarecrow got an advanced mini drone to carry his Maglock RailRifle.
Scarecrows securing the perimeter while Phobos tried to open a door.
yeah,
Thanx guys
I'm a bit under the weather today so didn't start the Hunters :(
So instead messed about with the terrain sprue to pass the time and make some DOOM team objective markers.
So I figured I would find any reason for Doom team to be searching for Key Cards...
Made four - Red Blue Yellow and Green
Next I opted for the Map console and medi pack.
And finally the Soul Sphere...
For Maelstroms edge I need two large objectives. 'Artifacts' that we are trying to protected or destroy!
So I decided to make soul sphere containment units.
So if you were thinking about doing this conversion now is the time! I've bought myself a little stock pile of these Doom heads, so the Doom team is safe for future expansion!
I also bought some of their other excellent heads to add to the Doom team later as specialists These are heads HD.17 - HD.18 - HD.19 Buy them here <---
Command scarecrow with the drone rifle is just plain awesome! The others are a neat idea too are those gun arms done using parts from the model or did you scratch convert them?
Objective markers are looking really great so far! Bumner about pig iron closing, though =/
yeah,
All four gun arms am were made from one set of spare spider legs
Trimmed the top off to keep the round hinge.
And then used pin vice side ways to drill/file a round notch in bottom of the gun
May 13th
With the news that pig iron are closing their doors I bought some heads!
Two day delivery!
40x more doom team helmets!
20x three other styles.
2 are slightly larger blocker and other slightly rounder.
I also magnetised the missile options so they can be removed when fired.
Have to check my rulebook, but I seem to remember the Hunter missiles aren't 1-shot only. I dont think you need to remove them after firing. Good idea magnetizing them though! The two missile types are pretty different so it's good to be able to swap them out if you need to.

Interesting, I assumed one shot as you pay +1pt for a missile and can take up to two...
Magnatizing does this allow switching missiles, mixing missiles or taking leaving them off
SexierThanYou13 wrote:Nice!
I question though... will Blu-tac be strong enough to hold the weapon arms in place?
It seems very strong as the fit is very tight.
I've got a few ideas on how to magnetise the arms but in the end it seems like hard work and blu tac is a super easy and effective solution!
I've just spent the morning assembling my Epirians and have to say the robots are becoming my next mini-faction of choice (after an Angel mini-faction).
I've built the Hunters in Ed-209 poses (squat legged, body leant back). I also placed the missile pods on the tops of the shoulders as they fit much better with a little snip here and there.
Will post some pics when internet issues get sorted - but loving what I'm seeing here
