Hello there.

First time posting here, so to kick it off, I've decided to share my necrons with the rest of the forum. Been collecting these for almost 10 years, and have been painted and repainted more times than I could count. I think I'm finally happy with the paint scheme, painting technique and photo taking skills (the latter took the longest ). Without further ado, introducing my Destroyer Lord, heavily converted, from assorted Tomb Kings and Dark Eldar bitz. Hope you enjoy it, more pics of my necrons are yet to come. C&C welcome and appreciated, as always.

As requested, front lower angle of Destroyer Lord. And some Tomb Blades done too. Please keep in mind I'm seriously lacking in photo taking skills department, and my camera is ancient, and not very good at focusing. But I'm trying my best, so I got that going for me, which is nice.

nice colour choice and I bet a whole army of these would look super menacing and very distinct.

Moving on. C'tan (Shards of the) Deceiver and Nightbringer. Tried to make them fit into my colour scheme. After all, they are capricious beings, and can look whatever they feel like.

Next up, some troops. Ol' school metal Immortals and Warriors.

Very cool army

Forge World Canoptek Tomb Stalker. 95+ parts for a mechanical centipede. While a nightmare to build, a very fun model to paint. Made the base myself, using plaster and various other stuff.

Necron Monolith. Took me sweet time to get it done, but it was well worth it. My very first attempt at OSL effect.

Next on the list, some more vehicles. Ghost Ark and Catacomb Command Barge. Light is a bit off on these photos, so colour might seem "weird" here and there.

Some old metal Tomb Spyders. I love their squat beetle looks. Might get some new ones some day though.

Truly impressive! The one gripe I'd have would be the fact that the C'Tan have the same colors as the Necrons. ...I really don't think that's a thing.

C'tan used to be gods of unimaginable power, bending the laws of nature and physics to their whim, and could assume the appearances of whatever or whoever they felt like. In 3rd edition Necrons codex, a painting tip suggests you can paint C'tan in whatever colours you feel like, because of their capriciousness.

However, 5th/6th edition codex retconned that ; now they are hideously powerful enslaved Pokemon, so I found it fitting they are "forced" to carry the army colours. They still voice their dissatisfaction and dissent by using random powers every turn.

Next up : old metal Canoptek Wraiths. I field them for sentimental reasons....and also for not having the current ones.

A trio of heavy destroyers, part of Destroyer Cult formation. Now they can finally take a beating, and dish it out.

Here we go. 1850 points of Necrons, along with a display board. Had to dust it off for show & tell.

Illuminor Szeras. A rather unique model, with a very cool backstory. I'll have to field him these days, now that he is painted.

High quality work; but the red and green are very offputting to me. Just my opinion, but I'm not a fan of the color scheme.

Necon Night Scythe transport done. I'm OK with a necron pilot driving it, but I'm not OK with an exposed cockpit. So I made some modifications.
C&C welcome.

Small update : will start working on necron styled objective markers, as soon as I find time to do so. Still need some more sculpting and modifying.

Great colour scheme, wonderfully executed. You've done a great job all round, from colour choice, to modelling, to paint job.

Usually necrons can look pretty boring, but this is a wonderful surprise of a thread, I've really enjoyed looking at your pictures, and you've bought the best out of the models, thanks for sharing.

I'm really loving these colour choices. I don't think I've ever seen this scheme on necrons before, and it definitely works for me, and the execution is great too! Do you have any shots of the full army so far?

This looks great, just what I have been looking for to kickstart painting my necrons that are largely grey plastic or black primer at the moment!

Thanks. Easy! With a brush.

Kidding. I used to paint with Red Gore, but that paint was replaced with a bit brighter version, Wazdakka Red. So I used it, and then shaded with Nuln Oil to get that darker shade of red. then I found out Vallejo makes Gory Red, which is almost identical to old Red Gore.
For highlights, Evil Sunz Scarlet (or Vallejo equivalent Bloody Red, i think), then any orange (I used old gw Macharius Orange, still does the job), followed with Vallejo Filthy Brown (old gw Vomit Brown, Tausept Ochre now, I think), and finally thinned down white for extreme edge highlights.

The detail on that monolith makes me want to go home and throw mine in the garbage. Great work!

How did you cover up the cockpit? I tried using greenstuff, and it didn't look that nice.

I carved out the deltoid shape from plasticard, made the grid from thick paper, and sculpted the sides from green stuff.
Plasticard should fit in nicely if you cut it right, then use some sculpting to "elevate" it a bit, so you can give it a 3D look.
You should have no problems making a cockpit if you didnt put in a pilot, but if you did, juts chop his head off, that's what I did.

Necron Overlord, plastic and ready for 8th edition. The business end of his weapon is pointing in the right direction, unlike the GW original. Here's to hoping he won't be dying from random s10 attacks anymore.

Not sure what do you mean by "metallic" looking. Must be the varnish I used. After painting, I spray on gloss varnish, then wait for it to be completely dry.
Then another coat of matte varnish. Kills the shiny effect, but colours remain enhanced. It also protects your minis and paintjob from chipping and other
hazards. The only downsides are it not being to everyone's taste, and when you take photos, lighting/reflections can be really weird.

Wow, incredible work here on the old Necrons, older models are always off putting to me and seem easily outshined by the newer platic kits, but these metal models were clearly cared for. Keep up the work, I'm excited to see the undead legions ranks swelling even as 8th approaches!

Moving on. Fix bayonets! A unit of Necron Immortals with Tesla Carbines. Chopped the bayonets from plastic Gauss Blasters and just affixed them to carbines.
Perhaps I should have went with 32mm bases, but these will do for now (don't have bigger ones anyway). Tesla weapons are back with a vengeance,
can't wait to take these boys for a test drive.

My very first attempt at NMM. Necron (Over)lord all done. Doubt I'll attempt this again any time soon, too much time, work, and effort involved. Enjoy.

Triarch Praetorian, first of many yet to come. Definitely looks better on a 32mm base (you get 25mm for these). Slowly building up my Elite corps.

Moving on. Captain of the Lychguard. Shame Necrons don't have unit champions, but that shouldn't stop you from making your own minis stand out. Converted from old 3rd edition metal Necron Pariah (RIP to the best piece of Necron fluff). Made him a trophy rack adorned with skulls of all those who were foolish enough to cross his path. Turned out quite well, I think.

"The other" Captain of the Lychguard. Another converted old Necron Pariah (RIP) from bitz and pieces. This one has a back banner adorned with the head of his predecessor...or something similar, no idea, I just felt like putting it. Who knows, he might even find use as a character with the new codex.

Great job, as always, you are really spoling us at this point!

I was wondering about something, your very distinct style produces an impression of throbbing or pulsing, the red and green almost come alive.

Could this be expanded on wraiths (I notice you have already painted a unit of old style wraiths). They have wraithflight, ie they shift in and out of existance. Could the pulsating/throbbing style you have, be used to represent this phasing out and in existance of the wraiths in any way?

Necrons are one of my favourite armies in 40k, but I have never seen a color scheme like this again.

And to say they are beautiful is an understatement. They are gorgeous! Good job!

Not sure what you mean by this, I guess it could be a side effect of matte varnish over gloss varnish I usually do on all of my minis. Extra layer of protection against chipping + colour enhancement for colours. Lighting in photos could also contribute to it.

Yeah, I suppose it could pass for that, but I'd do it differently, like "blending" in with their surroundings (the base in this case), becoming transparent or something similar. Might actually contemplate on how to do that one in the future, once I get the new wraiths.

Yeah its near impossible to explain in words.

The sword and shield of the lychguard sergeant , the green lines over the red shoulder armor of the immortals, they seem to pulsate, they seem very alive. (to me at least). Same with the blue material of the banner of the sergeant, it seems alive and flickering/pulsing

Could something similar be used to enhance the flickering in and out of the entire wraith model. I haven't the slightest clue where to start, obviously there is no such thing as transparent paint, so some sort of color interaction with the base is perhaps the best thing.

I was airbrushing lead belcher on my wraith tails 2 days ago, the silver hitting the nearest bulges of the tails first, leaving the farthest bends a bit darker, and in the lowly lit room I was working in it gave a weak impression that the darker parts of the tail could be seen as fading out of existance.

I don't know where to start to try to enhance that effect on the entire model, and perhaps it will never work in a properly lit area. But I'm contemplating shading out those far bulges of the tail again and see how it works.

Moving on.

Lychguard with Warscythe prototype. Painted one just so I could see how it would turn out, and I'm pleased with the results. A whole unit of these is in the works.

One question though: How about making the head pop out more? Now the upper half of his body, most of the visible part of the body in this particular stanse, is one big red area. Especially with the bronze red spine which seems to try to add some variety, but ends up being quite similar to the other red.

(Could just be the lighting and the angles, models with other stances might look different)

What about making his face icy blue? Like the grip on the warscythe? Could perhaps tie the colors of the model even better together? And introduce some balance and variety?

And just to reiterate, I'd be thrilled if I could paint my entire army to your standards)

Yeah, I've given it some thought, but decided against it. Lighting in photos does make it look a bit weird or monotonous, but with proper highlights and a freehand it looks a lot better. Bluish haft looks ok for variety, but blue head would be a bit overkill, imo.

Also, his head is actually metallic . The red part is the mask, and the crest is golden, so I feel it adds a bit to the overall impression.

Hm yeah I agree,a big round face would be too much blue.

It's all about red and green, everything else must be subtle.

Anrakyr the Traveller, Lord of the Pyrrhian Legions. Totally forgot I ordered him months ago, he arrived just today. He is special/mail order now or something, I'm not sure. Either way, a nice miniature, and nice backstory too.

Back again. This time, the Flayed Ones, metal ones too. Got me a whole bunch of these to do, but for now, here is a prototype.

So I did some reshooting of my earlier works using the new phone cam. Not the most optimal results (lighting still needs some work), but I'm pleased with progress nevertheless.

Rockin stuff.

Very cool army, people don't often do much interesting with Necrons so kudos for making the effort. Paint work is very good. C'Tan are particularly well done and the inversion of the scheme is a nice touch to differentiate them.

With the new codex on the horizon, it is time to expand the collection. Speedpainted Vargard Obyron I intend to use as a generic Lord.

To celebrate the new codex, I made a new base for my Triarch Stalker. That's right, they don't have bases, but I think it complements the model rather nicely.
