Post by: HoneyBeeWorks

Edit: Our full range is now available online at: http://www.honeybeeworks.co.uk

Many of you hopefully remember the very popular S6 Engineering scenery products produced 2010-2011 by Scott Wright. Mainly they were a system of modular roadways, canals, bridges and buildings designed for 40k and Epic (as well as similar genre games).

Sadly in 2011 Scott became to busy with 'real life' to continue production. I've known Scott since University and over a heady draft of Bugman's we came to an agreement where my company (Honey Bee Works) would begin producing and expanding his range of excellent scenery.

We are excited to announce we are putting the finishing touches in place to complete the first production run and you will see the products begin to become available over this weekend. For those of you who missed out on the products here are some examples (all made from laser cut acrylic)

We will be accepting orders (including international) soon!

Regards

Neil (Monkey) and the HBW team

YES! I was super sad to see them go, they came out when the recession had hit me hardest and I had no money to spare for these back then, glad they're available again!

Holy gak, talk about a blast from a not so distant past. I was always kicking myself for not getting these when they were around.

I'll be sure to put an order in later this year, post-Salute!

When the 40k roads originally launched a couple of the post complained they weren't wide enough. Obviously a Rhino isn't a car (an APC is a lot wider) but is there desire for a wider 40k road system that would essentially be double width?

I could do that relatively easily and it would remain compatible with the building bases. Plus I can do an adaptor to go from double wide to the current 40k road system (I have a 40k to epic road adaptor already).

What else would people like to see? A 40k version of the airfield is do-able (and massive)......any other strong desires?

BairdEC : unfortunately I don't play Battletech but a number of people ordered the Epic stuff for Battletech from Scott and were happy with it. I *think* Scott has some Battletech so I will ask if can borrow some or get him to take a photo for you.

In the mean time (and this may not help) here is a pic of a FoW tank and some more Epic mini's with the Epic scale road, building bases and ruins....

On the 28mm road width.. maybe consider turn lanes or 3 lanes (2 lanes + passing lane). That should alleviate some of the cramped..ness..
Not sure if this helps but it illustrates your point about the APC's on streets designed for cars.

We're ready a bit ahead of schedule.

Some Epic scale stuff is up for sale

Edit: While we will continue to sell some kits on ebay (user ID : HoneyBeeWorksUK) our entire range is available at www.honeybeeworks.co.uk

International shipping is costly on individual items (nothing I can do there) but it doesn't increase much to ship more.

If you do intend to buy a lot, please contact me and I will sort out reduced shipping costs (ebay isn't very flexible) plus it will save me a fortune in ebay fees on shipping!

Will post some 40k stuff tomorrow

Post by: HoneyBeeWorks

Hi Porkuslime. Sort of. currently we want to focus on producing and expanding the range rather than a webshop (we are a band of 2 both with other full time jobs). So for regular packs it will be eBay.

We can always accept an order via a PM - makes sense for large orders where eBay doesn't allow for us to customize the shipping. Or if someone wants to order something odd ball....like ordering only 90 degree corners or something.

In that case we could send a PayPal invoice....

Is eBay an issue for you?

ebay is a Work Blocked issue, which means impulse buying must wait until tonight.

I am highly interested in the Bridges.. can they work without the raised roads? (say for those homebrew types who made their own)

New 15mm scale Dark Gothic Sci Fi Temple available. (Page5) @ 2016/04/01 17:44:55

Post by: HoneyBeeWorks

The bridges are standalone so will work fine with other scenery. The plastic is 3mm thick so you will have a slight lip at the end of the road....but I assume your road has some thickness....which will reduce that.

Incidentally the roads are only raised when not used with the base boards, sold separately. When used with the building bases it is flush.

On the subject of bridges....Do you have a hankering for a much bigger bridge? As in a proper suspension bridge?

Many have asked about the great modular canals originally offered by S6 Engineering in 2010.

We are pleased to announce that the canal packs are now available.

Wow, pretty cool stuff. I'm not in the market for terrain right now, but I hope to be in a year or so.

Do the canals clip together at all? that's the one bummer with the old armorcast tech canals...

Post by: HoneyBeeWorks

Thanks Filbert. We'll get it packed up over the weekend and out on Monday. The epic canals are simpler by necessity than the 40k version.

Polonious: the canals don't clip together but they are plastic so reasonably weighty and won't slide around.

Edit: Actually I was thinking about this last night. I could re-design the roads and canals to be like jigsaw pieces that clip together...but to work properly that would require the board to be completely flat (otherwise they wouldn't clip and would look terrible). It struck me the simplest, most flexible answer is to use a small piece of clear selotape on the underside. It's flexible to allow for any texturing/undulations in the gaming board...plus it's cheap and strong.

As out kits are plastic the tape sticks well enough to hold it firmly yet comes off easily and cleanly when needed to be packed away.

Thanks Panic for posting your detailed pics: Helps everyone see how the 40k canal goes together.

The epic version is much simpler (due to the smaller size and lower cost) - The pavements join on to the side of the fluorescent plastic rather than sitting on top and locking in place.

However, it would be very doable to have:

T-Junction and X-roads for the 40k canal
40k to Epic converter piece that looks like a drain off of some sort.

UPDATE: The T-Junction and Cross Road for the Canal are done and will be proto-typed tomorrow. If all goes well they should go on sale on Monday.

Oh! as for the annoying bits of plastic cover you had to peel off: I remove them before shipping so you don't have to

I was thinking about the canals and had some ideas:

Some sort of treatment tanks? You know those round tanks with the blades that go round you see at sewage treatment plants....like the below.

or some sort of pumping station that would span the canal? Again, like below...

Thoughts anyone?

Do you think you could design a insert for the G&G board?

But I think something that works with the canals could be great.

or something that goes ontop like the treatment tanks!

Looks great, it's an excellent design

I'd suggest one change and thats that the walkway and platform are not attached..
That way it can be optionally placed on the tank, in various places or left off.

Not a fan of the imperial waste logo either as it kinda ties the tank to 40k.

Thanks Panic,

On the walkway and platform going in to the fluorescent; Yeah i considered that. I went through 2 prior prototypes where the holes just were too tight as i wasn't engineering in enough tolerance. I have got it right now but may change the design to do away with the sides going in to the fluorescent.

On the Imperial Waste logo - big sad face :( that took the bulk of the time! I dont really agree it ties it to 40k. Imperial is a fairly common term (especially for us brits! Imperial Leather isn't the soap of 40k ) and the winged bio-hazard : sure the wings envoke in us a certain 40k-ness (that was the idea) but there are also plenty of real logos and emblems very similar in RL that have wings like that.

If you want an order where the walkway/platform are not joined to the fluorescent, and with the imperial waste logos removed - let me know and i will do you some specials. It's easy to remove them from the cuts.

Absolutely methebest....in fact i have an outstanding action for panic to post some pictures of some alternative materials/colours for the canal.

He is looking for ice...and i have found a frosted sort of clear/green/glass colour which should work well.

Also got a clear brown that will be a more dirty but not toxic colour.

There are some options around a clear water/light blue too....will post them tonight.

Kid_kyoto - noted...i will try to find a better colour/surface. I was photographing them on white which didnt seem great either....will experiment.

Ok so colour options

I DIDNT take the below pictures (they are from my supplier...so apologies about the grey background - doesnt make it very visible for the clear colours).

I will make any canal in any of these colours special order (if they prove popular i will add them to the website). To order, just order PM me the colour you want and then order the regular canal pieces on the website. Prices would be the same but delivery may be a little longer (few days).

All of the colours are translucent so can show a pattern underneath. Those called frosted will be less translucent as they are um..frosted.

Please use the exact name below, as otherwise you may get the wrong colour!

So a while ago i posted a prototype of a 6mm warehouse. Feedback was (broadly): It looked too modern/wasn't Gothic enough and needed a roof.

With everything else going on I had to put it on the back burner. But now I give you the 6mm Epic Scale Warehouse (2.0) with 110% more Gothic...(and 100% more roof):

On sale now for £4 : http://honeybeeworks.co.uk/products/6mm-gothic-dark-future-warehouse

Dimensions:

Width: 6.4cm
Length: 9cm
Height (to the roof): 5cm (good for Knight/Titan cover)

This is the first of range of 6mm buildings I plan (and is probably one of the simplest, shape wise, as it's a warehouse after all). So watch this space.

Comments, feedback and suggestions welcome.

Available now: a larger 6mm scale bridge. This is both wider and longer than the Epic bridge we sell in a 2 pack. (About twice as long and twice as wide). However, it remains compatible with our modular road system as the bridge features a 5.5cm wide road and 2x 1.5cm wide walkways divided by barrier.

Leaving these barriers off allows the full width of the bridge to be used for larger scales (such as 10mm or 15mm).

The bridge is 22cm long, 10cm wide and 6.5cm high.

Priced at £12 each and available at: http://www.honeybeeworks.co.uk

Latest addition to the 6mm Epic scale building line. A Genatorium (power station)

By far the most complex I have designed to date, it has some 'shield generator' inspired cooling vents on the sides and a lot of detail (even has a keypad on the door). Gothic style vents and cog shaped chimneys.

Dimensions: 8cm tall, 10cm wide and 7cm deep.

On sale now for £7: http://honeybeeworks.co.uk/products/6mm-gothic-genatorium-power-station

We've also lowered our shipping prices again so the US/Canada should be much cheaper. Europe and UK have also gotten slightly cheaper.

Comments, feedback or suggestions always welcome.

That is some great stuff.

You might consider upsizing some of the buildings to 28mm, maybe start small and move up? It's a more popular scale and your recent buildings look really great.

Thanks Kid_Kyoto

I definitely plan to have equivalency in the 6mm and 28mm lines. Reason for the focus on 6mm at the moment is though it is less popular and a smaller community, it is probably also less well served. Anything we make in 6mm outsells the 28mm equivalent about 10:1.

It's also easier to make the 6mm version and scale up, than the other way round

I have a few projects in the pipe but expect to see 28mm versions....

So I may be going mad. During a discussion on a certain game set in a bug infested space ship and 6mm scale I got to wondering if we could make an interlocking spacecraft corridor set for 6mm out of plastic. Here are the first prototype corridors and walls. Next will be a room prototype, then on to doors (which I intend to make open and some blips and objectives.

The corridors, with the walls in place are 1.6cm wide. The walls are 6mm high.

These are just the prototype pics and not painted up, just with some light gray to bring out the details.

In case you are wondering the grill in the corridor floor is actually a grill, not painted on, so yes there is 3D in the corridor floor and walls.

I have some Prowlers (Genestealers) and Novan (Terminators) on order so as soon as they arrive I can take some better scale shots.

Thoughts? Would people be interest in buying pocket/travel space corridors for those table constrained bug hunts?? Would really appreciate feedback as to whether people would be interested....

Wow, 6mm corridors! Would this work with Spartan Games Halo figures? That could be really sweet if so.

Can't say I'm in the market for this personally atm, but I'd Thiel that might be your biggest market and is a pretty hot item at the moment. Only issue is they multibase their figures, would need to be single based for corridor use, I think...

Hi RiTides
I wasnt aware of the Halo figures from Spartan, but having a quick look it the figures are 1:100 (about 18mm) rather than the 1:285 of 6mm.

The good bit of my production process is I can simply tell the machine to make things 3x bigger to go from 6mm to 18mm so it is definitely possible.

Right now, i'm focusing on the 6mm product.

That's awesome!

So, I guess the big question for me is, how big would whole maps be? Would it be viable to, instead of making it modular, have a little stack of maps?

I love the bug hunt corridors. Since I own an epic space marine and epic tyranid army already, I would love to get some to play some kind of 6mm variant of space hulk (or epic, modified for enclosed spaces? who knows!)

Problem is my armies are all multibased, as I imagine most peoples are. I figure you probably want to make them greater than 20mm wide at minimum to accommodate the standard GW square base size, if not greater than 40mm wide to fit the GW rectangular bases.

I realize at 40mm they start to become less "6mm corridors" and more "6mm 4 lane highways with side walls" but maybe you could do two variants?

Thanks everyone for the interest in this. Sorry I havent been responding; my wife gave birth 13 days ago so everything else has fallen by the way side.

In rare moments I have found some time to progress the designs for these corridors and will try to post some pics tonight of the production grade corridors and rooms I have made so far.

To answer some questions:

How big will a map be: Hmmm...as the layout is so open with the pieces connecting in so many ways - hard to give an exact answer. However, I think you could have a 'large' layout at one end of a coffee table, or on a train table when going on journey. You could probably squeeze a game on to an aircraft tray table by making the map more rectangular. The pieces are really pretty small - will post some scale shots with some US and UK coins for context.

Little stack of maps: The real cost for me is plastic. To me a map would have a lot of dead space for this style of game/corridor, and drive up the cost considerably as more plastic would be used (as well as drive down the flexibility of the layout. I have considered whether corridors without walls would be better (would be cheaper and require no assembly) but i think it would lose something. However, see my note below about other plans.

Corridor width and bases: Yup this is an issue. Personally i bought some miniatures specifically for this (some Nova Elites and Prowlers from Onslaught) and intend to use them unbased. The corridors are 1.6cm wide currently to allow for easy picking up of the miniatures to move them. This does mean a standard GW Epic base fits length ways (14mm x 40mm) but obviously most peoples miniatures would be based facing the wall.

Could I make the corridors wide enough for the classic 20mm square epic base? There would need to be some clearance so I would need to make them 22mm wide from the inside of the walls (that's wide enough to drive a rhino down). The walls are 3mm thick each, making a total of 28mm. The short corridor pieces are only 30mm long, so essentially they would be square :( The other issue would be doors. Either the door would be an airlock in the centre of a wall across the corridor (weird) or they would be the width of the corridor....which means they would be about 12mm high but 22mm wide....which would look wrong.

As for 40mm wide bases - yeah...that would be 6mm space highways

However, fear not i recently played Zone Mortalis on the FW resin modules. Love the game and the rules but detest the FW modules (for a number of reasons - not least they cost £500 and aren't square). A more 'interconnecting large rooms' style 6mm scenery set would allow using 20mm and 40mm bases. I want to create some more epic scale buildings after these corridors...then it will be on to this 'interconnecting large rooms'.....so watch this space.

Fridge Hulk: OMG i had the same thought. I have (somewhere) some magnet backed plastic. I thought I could cut the corridors (not the walls) the counters etc and make a fridge magnet based version That may have to wait a while though!

Cost for a complete 'game' set of these: I am trying to keep a complete set (basically as much corridor/rooms/blips/doors etc as you would get in another company's 28mm based game) for around the £20 mark (bearing in mind those were 2D cardboard and these are 3D plastic). Are people interested?

As promised some pics of what I have produced so far. I have designed far more....just with the new arrival not had a chance to paint and assemble. For context this represents about 1/5th of what would be in the final set (and there are a lot more rooms in the other 4/5ths).

These pieces fit in to half an A4 piece of paper (which is 210mm by 300mm) and there is a 10p for scale.

The pic of the ends shows some of the examples. The airlock provides the exit/entry to the maps and there will be 4 in the set. The others are examples of some of the dead ends (again there will be 4 different ones in the set).

Feedback really welcome.

More 6mm space hulk style corridor insanity....I am gradually drawing closer to the day when the set will be done and you could buy your very own kit With the new arrival it's definitely slower going!

Finished some of the shorter corridors (6th is being painted), one of the 90 degree corners (there will be 4),one of the cross roads (there will be 4), some more 'room like corridors' (more to come) and the final (4th) dead end for the set.

Everything i have made so far still fits on to a single A4 piece of paper (210mm x 297mm)

Bit disappointed I was tired and got a bit heavy handed with the brown wash - will need to sort later.

I don't own an EA warlord but if someone can give me an idea of the dimensions they would like such a missile launcher to be....I can make it.

Does the EA warlord have sockets for the weapons like the original SM warlords? If so if someone can give me an idea of the diameter of the hole that would help too.

Also if there is a desire to mount something similar on a rhino to make whirlwind proxies....just say the word.

So the carapace has a U shaped slot for theCarapace weapons, but it gets slightly bigger at the top.

It's 6.6mm across at the bottom and 6.94mm at the top.

The slot is 4.19mm high and extends a further 2mm above beyond the sides.

The sides are 2.06mm deep.

Photo attached below of the mount, hopefully this helps.

I ordered a pile of the canal stuff from Honeybee, and they delivered great service after a post office disaster.

So i thought I'd post some pictures of the completed scenery as a way of saying thank you.

The photos are composed rather than in game shots but, the scenery is so good that I had to buy it, and it will now force me to organise some Epic games!

Having now built two of the canal packs my top tip would be, rather than sticking the canal bits together with glue, cut the basing paper then glue all the bits to it with PVA/ white glue. Much easier to work with.

You might have been wondering what happened to the Nano Space Hulk project.

Well Christmas happened and we got very busy with orders. I've now been able to pick this up again.

Ok, i've finished all the actual corridor pieces. This is what you will get in the way of corridors and doors (some are shown open) in the final set.

Obviously the pieces can be combined in any variety of ways.

Laid out like this the set takes up 34cm by 40cm.

More updates to follow shortly on the counters and objectives.

What do you think?

It's finally done and on sale! over 400 pieces!

http://honeybeeworks.co.uk/products/nano-hulk-6mm-space-hulk-compatible-scenery

Nano Hulk scenery is compatible with the 'space hulk' rule set but in a completely different scale - allowing you to crawl over those derelict alien riddled hulks in 6mm scale. For miniatures (not included) we recommend Onslaught Miniatures range of "Legion Prowlers" as aliens and Vanguard Miniatures Defeat in Detail "Nova Legion" as human heroes.

Play your favourite space dungeon crawler in the space of an A4 piece of paper, on the train, in a car, on a plane....

4x 5 square corridors, 4x 4 square corridors, 6x 3 square corridors, 8x 2 square corridors, 4x corridor corners, 8x cross corridors, 4x corridor dead ends, 8x T-junction corridors, 4x external airlocks, 2x dead end rooms (1 Skull & 1 Sword), 1x 'straight through' room, 3x 'corner' rooms, 1x 'cross' room, 2x 'T-junction' rooms, 20x opening airlocks, 10x 'on watch' counters, 10x 'on guard' counters, 10x 'gun jammed' counters, 4x Force Generators, 4x Damaged Force Generators, 1x Force Grenade Counter, 8x down hatches, 8x up ladders, 8x human control counters, 8x alien control counters, 1x tracked drone objective, 1x ancient sword objective, 2x computer terminals, 18x alien hidden movement counters, 1x resource tracker and 3x resource counters.

This is NOT a game; there are no miniatures or rules, it is a scenery set and counter set. While the scenery and counters are compatible with the space hulk rule set from GW, they can be used with any number of other rule sets and are NOT a space hulk clone.

This set requires assembly and consists of well over 400 individual pieces. The set is made from either solid grey, translucent green, translucent orange, translucent red acrylic, which can be glued with super glue and easily painted with acrylic paints.

Ah, certainly.

I received my set last week (in London), and have been seriously impressed with it so far. The page isn't joking - there really are over 400 teeny tiny pieces here, most of which are in small labelled bags. You'll want to keep everything separated until immediately before washing, drying and gluing the pieces.

Everything is made from thick laser-cut acrylic, and is extremely tough. The package arrived in the post looking like it had been stamped on a number of times, great tears in the brown paper, and every single piece inside was intact! I was a little worried that it would be difficult to glue shiny acrylic to shiny acrylic, but the jigsaw-like fitting has kept things securely in place. It is a lot of time-consuming gluing though - something like a single T-junction is 6 different pieces, and you'd be advised to add one piece at a time (in batches) and let it dry before adding the next.

While some of the pieces are generic spaceship tiles, plenty of others have loads of little details etched into them - pressure dials, grating, rubbish chutes, skulls, bullet holes... Frankly has more detail than most of the 1st edition tiles had! The lines from the movement squares are very fine, so you'll want to emphasise those with ink/a wash when painting/

Also worth mentioning that you also get all of the counters you need (blips, blast markers) as well as a plastic resource tracker sheet. All you need to play Space Hulk is rules, dice, and models.

The 6mm models from Vanguard easily fit within the corridors, and could do with extending their integrated bases with greenstuff a little to make handling and directionality easier to manage.

Photos of what I've managed so far:

It's definitely a hobby project that will require a bit of time to put together, but I just find it astonishingly cool. Actually bought it so that I could play Space Hulk down the pub - doesn't fit on the tables otherwise!

Looks excellent, any shots with accompanying models for a sense of scale?

New 6mm scale building now available: The Temple of the Machine.

Designed to fit on the small building base included in our 6mm building base set (whereas the warehouse and power plant fit on the large). The kit is highly detailed, featuring a wooden door with a cog design, a stain glass roof light and grand windows on the sides and rear. Above the entrance is a 'flying' stone circle.

Dimensions:
Width:7cm
Length: 7cm
Height (Tower): 6cm

A bargain at £7 for the kit.

Available at http://honeybeeworks.co.uk/products/6mm-temple-of-the-machine or on ebay.

I've had a few requests to make the gothic sci fi buildings in 15mm....so here is the first: the temple of the machine in 15mm.

It's surprising just how much bigger it is:

Width: 13.2cm
Depth: 13.2cm
Height: 11.2cm

http://honeybeeworks.co.uk/products/15mm-temple-of-the-machine £16.

The piece is as yet unpainted and still has the manufacturing dust on it.
(pics seem blurry on the forum for some reason)

That's pretty cool. Really dig the cog elements.

Yes we can offer bulk deals. Retailer deals we've never been asked but we could work something out.
