Here it is, the official unofficial thread! (Since Reece ain't doin it)
Here is the link to the official Las Vegas Open page: http://www.lasvegasopen.net/
Registration for the 2017 Las Vegas Open is now live!

LVO 2017 Registration Going Hot!
Opening day registration exceeded expectations. Some items sold out within hours, others are on the verge of filling up. If you'd like to participate in the following events, we recommend grabbing tickets sooner than later.
Warhammer 40k Championships: already 200 attendees, will likely be sold out soon.
Warhammer 40k Narrative Team Event: as of this writing, only 8 tickets left.
Warhammer 40k Apocalypse: only 15 spots left.
Horus Heresy 30k Narrative Mega Battle: over 50% sold out.
Warhammer 40k Knight Joust Team Event: Over 50% sold out.
Here is the event info for all of the events: https://lasvegasopen.squarespace.com/home-1
Age of Sigmar at the LVO 2017
Games Workshop will have a direct hand in running this event! We are extremely excited to be working with them for this AoS GT.
Come join us for the fun of Age of Sigmar at the Las vegas Open 2017! This event will be split up into two, separate events: an Age of Sigmar Tournament and Narrative Mega Battle!
Vegas is coming, Vegas is coming! Get pumped everyone, because the LVO 2017 is going to be absolutely amazing, and now we’ve got the rooms available for you to book, just follow this link! https://aws.passkey.com/g/63969536
We will be staying at the beautiful Ballys Casino on the strip in Vegas. The hotel is nice, affordable and centrally located. Staying at the event hotel makes your experience at the LVO infinitely more enjoyable as you don’t have to walk long distances with all of your gaming goodies to get to the event! Plus, you will be right in the middle of the action with all of your gamer comrades for the gaming and nighttime social events! We've got a plethora, yay, a cornucopia of gaming awesomeness planned for the convention across a spectrum of games from 40k to Warmachine and everything in between. The full schedule of events are listed here: https://lasvegasopen.squarespace.com/home-1.
The event is Feburary 3rd-5th, a Friday through Sunday. The core staff actually arrives on Wednesday to make sure everything is in order, so you may see as at the Blackjack tables Wednesday night! Come and say hi, if so.
Last year the hotel was fully booked the weekend of the event, so wait to book at your own risk. You have been warned, muahaha! In the event you do not get a room and it does fill up, there are plenty of accommodations in Vegas, but it may be a bit of a walk to get to the venue each day for you.
We are just so excited for Vegas this year, it is going to be the biggest and best year, yet! See you all there.

Thank you for being a volunteer, brotha!
@nimodo
It's a fluid situation. We opened reg early to see which of the big events would go hot so we could adjust floor-space as needed. We will at least go for 350 on the 40k champs, possibly more depending on how other events sell as we don't want any square footage to go to waste.
So, there are at least 50 more spots for the 40k champs. At the current sales rate, that equates to maybe a week or two in time.

Two things I like to constantly remind myself while at events.
Drink plenty of water.
Be sure to sit down as much as possible during a game.
On that last one I still find myself standing during my opponent's turn when I could be sitting. Your feet and back will thank you.

I have a list of things I take to tournaments
1: Pain Meds
2: Cough Drops
3: Water Bottle
4: Toilet Paper(After the fiasco that was BAO 2014)
5: Lotsa Protection. Thats gamer girls are wild.
2776
Post by: Reecius
And as for water, that issue has been taken care of, free water for everyone!
Also, 40k Champs is approaching sold out. We've already surpassed last year's total tickets sold (over 330) and have between 11 and 61 tickets left depending on the final floor-plan.
Don't wait to grab tickets if you would like to attend!

Crimson Devil wrote:This will be my first LVO. Has anyone put together a survival guide or have any advice?
I cannot find it at the moment, but I wrote one up last year. Repeating hotsauce's advice and adding in:
A. Your most comfy pair of shoes
B. Pain relief for lower back and your hangover remedies (as hotSauce said)
C. The usual 40k 'musts',
1. printed (or device) rules for all your units, codexes etc.
2. Two tape measures, two sets of dice, templates, 3 to 6 objective markers, numbered 1, 2 and 3.
3. Carrying tray for your army to move from one table to another. Swipe one from a burger joint or a bed/tv tray works well too
D. DEODORANT. Bathe in the morning if you are a fragrant dude. Srsly
E. 5 or so copies of your list, and triple check its legality
F. Spending cash at the venue, for the bar and, like this year, for lunch
Things to do:
Get there early day one. People put out out their armies for paint judging (unless the timing changes, Reece can chime in on that) and take pictures. Walk around and look at stuff. Ask Qs as we, including me, like to talk about our conversions and paint. You are going to see some of the best painting at LVO.
Familiarize your self with whatever the current ITC rulings are ... Bringing a copy of them is a good idea. Reece, two more quarterly votes before February?
Write names of your opponents on your game packet, including dakka or BOLS or whatever email contacts. It is hard to remember people and networking makes the hobby fun. Just this last BAO, I got picked up and hugged (picked up because I am a little guy) by lotsa players I only see twice a year. Selfies and buddies/friends you make, too.
Get roomies and book at the hotel. It is nice to just take an elevator and walk to the venue, instead of getting up early and having to drive park, and take the really long walk from the parking structure to the venue.
Have a good attitude that for your first GT (first LVO?) you are likely to lose a lot, but you are there to have fun. That is what I tell myself, anyway.

Blows my mind the amount of people who'll be there playing 40K.
What with GWs involvement with the LVO and also GW returning Throne of Skulls to the old heats/final format here in the UK, it's got me excited about tournaments again. So good to have GW embracing the tournament community.
Keep up the good work Reecius
Went and entered what will be my first tournament in a few years off the back of all the positivity. Can't wait and hopefully I can persuade my better half a trip from the UK to Vegas in 2018 is a good idea.

Post by: NotThisTime
Reece, with attendance practically doubling, was there any consideration to expanding the qualifying player pool from 8 to16?
Logistically, it's one more game you would need to fit in and that game could have potentially kicked off after round 6 on Saturday night at 7:30.
I'm sure it's easier said than done but just thought to ask considering the surge in attendance and the chance for more players to earn glory.
I wouldn't think those qualifying players would mind playing an additional game, just food for thought for 2018.
Best

Post by: Reecius
@Count Cyrus
The 2nd we will be running around like mad men and women setting everything up, so unfortunately no, no gaming that day. At least, not in the main halls.
@NotThisTime
We'd love to do that but the problem is that it takes 4 rounds of play to resolve a sweet 16 down to a single champion. If 40k didn't take so long to play a game as it does now, we could totally do that but at present with essentially 3 hour rounds and a deadline to close shop on Sunday it isn't practical.
We ran only 5 rounds way back when for the main group of players but a lot of folks felt like they wanted to play that 6th round, so we gave everyone what they asked for =)
If we get an edition role-over and the game speeds up in play (a man can dream, right?!) then yeah, we are 100% open to the idea.

Post by: mortetvie
I personally would love to see points at 2000 or more, or at least a format that supports that size games =). I think it would be interesting to see if data shows what armies/types of armies have trouble finishing games and so on... And if such data exists, maybe someone can point me to it.

that would be interesting, but what decisions could that inform? It might suggest capping a ceiling on psychic dice, which some tournaments have experimented with, or capping model count which is common in Kill Team tournaments. But every new army construction restriction risks excluding really cool collections.
Maybe the ITC electorate would support new construction rules aimed at match completion, but the past two votes on points suggest the majority value bringing cool stuff over finishing games.
713
Post by: mortetvie
Well, my average model count in my armies tends to be around 40 and I tend to play fast...
Some players just take too long to make their decisions and it doesn't help that some of them play armies that just have a lot of models. I think some form of chess clock feature in an event might be helpful for some players to see where they are taking too long and to collect data.
I mean, sometimes I take a long time to make decisions if there are some huge decisions to consider but then there are games where I literally take 10 minutes to do all my turns and my game barely gets to turn 4 and it's miserable =(.
2776
Post by: Reecius
People want their points...and to complain about games not finishing, haha.
But yeah, all the data indicates our players want more points, not less even though the data also shows us 1650pt games finish far more frequently.
See you all there! Whew, only a month to go! Coming up soon.

Post by: Brothererekose
To get ready:
a. Listen to Reece (in a sleep deprived state of bitching and complaining ) & Frankie talk about what to do:
http://hwcdn.libsyn.com/p/b/a/b/babe800e9576506a/Signals_audio_504.mp3?c_id=14034556&expiration=1485839502&hwt=dc1ab2822176dd0182c5fe8f8c8f5093
b. Download the BestCoastPairings app. It is used for submitting scores and getting your next match up, opponent's list, etc.
I used it to keep tabs on Carmona's Ease Into GT.
b. Make Excel spread sheet for my army list, and printing it in large font so the BCP picture looks good, on One Page.
c. Pack chapstick and lotion.
d. get cash for ForgeWorld and other vendor goodness.
e. aspirin
f. super glue
#gravityhappens
g. FAQs asked and answered (screen shots) for your army's more shenanigan oriented rules ... like corsairs. Have printed rules, or if asked from the (now closed) FaceBook ITC judging crew's thread, have the screen shot (I do!).
h. comfy shoes
i. 99 cent timer (for Battle Co, Demi-Co and Eldar/Spider heavy lists).
I used to play Spider & Jetbike goofery, so I know. If you bring one of these, play it well, and be mindful of time for you and your opponent.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Actual game stuff:
1. Two tape measures
2. templates (hellstorm & Apoc sized for those Skathaches)
3. Carry tray
4. That one paper copy for the ludite players out there. Like Allan Hernandez.
5. Know that the Fall of Cadia, Celestine and GW FAQ (released last week) are no good, at least Reece begs so at minute 21. (don't take this last for granted, read the ITC FAQ for yourself)
Lastly, though you've been shocked by the new executive administrations actions, be more prepared to be more shocked that I will Win It All. Nick, who? Hayden, huh?

b. Make Excel spread sheet for my army list, and printing it in large font so the BCP picture looks good, on One Page.
c. Pack chapstick and lotion.[u]
d. get cash for ForgeWorld and other vendor goodness.
e. aspirin

Ummm what are the plans for chapstick and lotion?
Cause I would like to win some games. Just don't know if I want to win THAT baddly.

So please don't wait on those hotel rooms.
Just out of sheer curiosity, has the AoS entries sold out or we didn't pass the 100 participants treshold?

Las Vegas is really, really dry. Protect your skin. It's the only one you have. Unless you're a crazy murderer.

Hi everyone,
Looking forward to being at LVO. Have the Ork Train packed up. Looking forward to humbly showing it to the group on Saturday night.
(If you want to read about packing the Ork Train - here you go! Working on making it easier (to pack) than when we took it to Reno this summer.)

Are they selling the Forgeworld Grak and Crumbleberry figures for Blood Bowl at this event? I've been on the lookout for a set and it seems a few US based scalpers are starting to post the figure for sale on ebay from Las Vegas. Does anyone know the actual buy price?

I did see the Grak and CrumbleB box. Sorry, that I didn't catch the price.

I had a fantastic time. Prolly best was not going 30 feet anywhere without a hollered greeting coming my way, receiving lots of bear huggs (thanks to James Carmona for not breaking my ribs), and good cheer all around.
I met more people, more new opponents (all pretty good guys, if one was a bit slow on cranking out Magnus's powers. ), and the wives/GFs are showing up to balance out the sausage fest that these things used to be.
That makes the whole thing aesthetically nicer.

The meta has become brutal.
FLG continues to shine well and produce a great experience, tables, terrain, judging, player packets, and accommodations.
The Best Coast App is really useful and I look forward to using it during events continuously.
Prices at Bally's? Ooof.
I did take 2nd place in BeerHammer.
One thing is missing. No one had a decent, pertinent or amusing quote to add to my sig.

I've been debating on starting up this list as well. Would love some inspiration of conversions or other execution of the army.

Does anyone know who won? I can't find it published anywhere. What about details of the final matches? I watched a bit of the semifinals on twitch but would like to hear some details about the games themselves. Exaltation and thanks for any who can inform me

Brett Perkins won LVO.
Matt Root won ITC.
I'm guessing we'll get a further breakdown for all other factions for the season later this week after FLG finishes recuperating.

I have made my best showing in a tournament ever this LVO with a 3/2/1. Compared to BAO with 3/3.
Had alot of fun, saw some amazing armies, bought too many models then I should. Ate some great food(im gonna miss Sbarro, not one around me sadly) and even enjoyed breaking down the Con joking and laughing with some Volunteers and just generally having a good time.
the BCP is amazing.......when it works. I signed up the night before, but a 1/2 hour into the first round, I had no opponent, I was just randomly paired

They were. They even tried to limit it to one per person. But someone ended up selling 9 to 1 person and that opened the floodgates. They were all sold out by the second day.
As far as price goes, I ordered a set and a Zug as well. The total came to $67.05 USD using their 1.65 catalog exchange rate. If you can price out Zug from that, you should be able to figure out how much Grak and Crumbleberry are.
