So how do you restart a PLOG that went on for years before being wiped out with a demise of a forum? I guess I will find out. I have decided to start with one of my smaller armies with some models and some vehicles still to paint.

So this army started back in 2001 when I was looking for work after the tech bubble burst and there suddenly was not a lot of demand for Oracle developers or other tech industry types. I was selling painted figures/units/armies on eBay to supplement my income and was doing quite well...knowing that my stock of armies would eventually run out I started looking for the armies which did the best price wise and noticed at once, since there were very few painted Sisters of Battle figures/units/armies for sale and those that did get put up tended to go for good prices. I also noticed that there were quite a number of Sisters for sale...I guess lots of gamers purchased a few with big plans and then after sitting gathering dust they decided to sell them. So I started placing minimal bids of groups of figures and every so often I would win that auction.

2003 came and I had found full time employment again and the Sisters I had collected to paint and sell started to gather dust as I no longer had any real interest in selling any more. That same year the Witch Hunter Codex came out and I decided I would paint the army for myself. Being a Guard player I built the army as you would expect a Guardsmen to do with large units of infantry and some Exorcists to back them up. It was about that time that I basically stopped winning any eBay auctions for Sisters on minimal bids as a lot of other players got interested...but I had more than enough...if a somewhat eclectic collection. I think it was 2005 before I won another auction...but by now it had become a point of pride to see how cheaply I could build a Sister's army of metal figures. In fact 2005-2006 was about the time many who had jumped into Sisters started selling those models to finance a new army or project and I started picking up things like Repentia and some newer models with my minimum bid shot gun approach.

I did have an old style Immolator and two converted Exorcists using the Mark I Rhino Chassis...it was at this point I decided I would stick with that style and expanded my eBay purchases to look for those models and old Sisters as other players migrated to the newer models like the Mark II Rhino based Immolator, Canoness or Seraphim Sister Superior.

The army around 2008:

The army in 2012:

The army in 2017:

The army in 2019:

The one thing that building a Sister's Army on the cheap is that the types of models was limited and I ended up with more than my fair share of Storm Bolters, Seraphim and regular Bolter armed Sisters...with the models appearing to disappear from GW's shelves I broke down and purchased 15 Special and Heavy Weapons and a few Sister Superiors...these models cost me more than the entire rest of the army. I also purchased a pair of Mark I Immolators from a gentleman in the Netherlands and I think these additions will make the army more effective in 7th Edition MSU tactics...although the army I have now was a respectable 50% in the 15 years it has taken the field.

Now I have started the slow process of replacing the Mark I tanks with Mark II versions...just in time for them to be replaced by new sculpts. In 8th the Sisters have not fared that well, except in large infantry groups against horde armies.

Photo from 2020 with the next generation of tanks.

Always nice to see more sisters of battle love, your force looks amazing. Sorry to hear about your old site going down but I hope you find it nice and cozy here. Those Excorsist tanks look amazing, I like those much more than the original GW model.

Very very very smexy looking army. I do love a well done SoB army. My one huge regret is selling my 5000+ points sister/arbites army.

I can't wait to see more pics of them and more units added. Do you plan on converting up some 'frothing church nutters'? or just sticking with the stock models?

Ah, Captain! I've missed your Long Painting War stuff. Your Sisters are lovely - really nice paintjob in a classic style.

My little force pales next to yours, but it's good to see another Sisters player who uses the old Mk1 Rhino chassis. They're hard to find now, trying to pick up Immolators for less than £25 is difficult.

Thanks FabricatorGeneralMike, I did do up a complete unit of Frateris Militia and the Inquisitor Squads, but I don't know if I will post those as they are no longer part of the newest codex.

Another exodite. Thanks Gen.Steiner...I would say post in the wanted adds section, but here it is the Swap Shop...the two I picked up were less than half that price...so there are options out there.

Now for the close ups, figured I would work through the codex using the Force Organization slots.

So first from the HQ Section is the Living Saint:

Seemed an appropriate HQ for a Sister's Army of The Order of Our Martyred Lady, usually she accompanies a unit of Seraphim.

More to come as the long painting war continues,

She's ace. I love the smooth layering on the cloak, and the contrast of the black armour with the white detailing is wonderful. Top notch, old fellow!

I always enjoyed your plogs over on Warseer, I look forward to following you over here on Dakka.

Question: Are those Rhino's Forge World jobbies or are they original casts from when the Rhino was released back in the day?

Like mentioned in an earlier post, the paint scheme has a real classic look to it. Good show old bean!

Just to answer for Cap'n Brown, those Rhinos are, I think, the old plastic and metal Immolator kits with the Immolator turrets removed to make Sisters of Battle Rhinos. That said I can't remember if, back in 2nd Edition, there was a Sisters Rhino kit released... either way it's definitely the old Mk 1 Rhino.

The Exorcists are a mix of Immolator and Whirlwind I think!

Thanks Splagbot, the Rhinos are the original GW Mark I kit with Sisters of Battle doors, spare tracks and front armour. I got the first two off eBay from someone else who obviously had the original idea of creating Sisters of Battle Rhinos and then figured out a way to make more parts to add to regular Rhinos. One Rhino I obtained off eBay for $0.99 because it was in such bad condition and missing parts, but my replacements made it back into a paintable Rhino. One other Rhino began its days as a Predator and when I got my hands on it was missing the turret and side sponsons, although you can still see the original back plate.

Entirely correct, only addition is that the Exorcists have the old Mark I Rhino Upgrade Armour to give them the feel of the heavier, better armoured tank chassis.
And now the second HQ selection from the Force Chart:
The Canoness

The Canoness and Command Squad in a couple of variations.

Now I also had a Uriah Jacobus model, but I traded him for additional Sisters, in fact I often traded Sisters for Sisters parts as I found most players seemed to want the helmeted heads and were willing to trade more to get those models. The two Multi-Melta sisters are actually Heavy Flamer bodies someone traded to me for the helmeted models and they threw in some additional models as part of the deal. Now I know someone is going to say, how could you trade Uria? The reason I had played Sisters with two large squads for so long I just got bored with it and the newer Priest rules had not come out making for a pretty good tar pit unit. Besides I ended up with a ton of Sisters models in trade. To tell the truth I had traded/sold two Uriah models as one of my gaming buddies had me sell his as well…that is likely sacrilege in some Sister player’s minds.

The long painting war continues…

Ah, the good old Inferno Pistol! I love the book, although I must admit my own Canoness totes an Eviscerator instead. More choppy, y'see.

Uriah Jacobus... meh. I can take him or leave him. Certainly I haven't picked him up yet (though I will), and I think swapping him for more Sisters is no bad thing!

As usual, lovely crisp and simple painting Captain. I especially like the text on the Sister Dialogus and the converted Seraphim Superior. Simple and effective.

The red on your fabrics looks really vibrant, I love it. Are you still adding to your army or is this a completed project?

This is making me think I should post up my own sisters project, I've stalled a bit lately because painting skin and vehicles has been a bit annoying and I haven't had a chance to put them on a table for a bit.

Thanks emptyhat,

Still need to paint two more tanks, 16 Sisters and a flyer...yes I caved and got a Forgeworld Avenger to try and deal with flyers …and yes, like the 15 Sisters from GW the cost of the Avenger is more than the cost of the rest of the army collected over years.

Never too late to start.

Now the first Troop Choice, not a big surprise as there is only one option in the Sister’s Codex.

Sisters of Battle Squad One:

And their dedicated transport the Rhino Sepulchra

Now the squad does not have the most powerful special weapons selections…and the reason I finally broke down and purchased the new Special Weapons to replace the Storm Bolter. But the squad does have all five of the variants of the helmetless Sisters with Bolters for variety.

The long painting war continues,

CB

PS: Added second angle shot of Mark I Rhino

It's cool that you only have the old rhinos, I have one for my Battle Sisters but never field it because it's tiny compared to the new chassis!

Getting deals scooped by Gen.Steiner on my own thread. No worries General, thank you for the kind words.

Now the next Troop Choice selection, the second Sisters Squad:

This time I used an old Canoness model as a Sister Superior with a Compi-Weapon (legacy of very few Sister Superior models in my trading and collection) and the squad does have all five of the variants of the helmetless Sisters with Bolters for variety. On the tactics front this squad also has the less than optimal Storm Bolter and Flamer combination.

Very nice closeups, those sister squads look fantastic. I've never been a fan of the older rhinos but here I kinda like them, they fit nicely. I think one reason I may not like the older ones is because every time I've seen them they've always been a lone old rhino in an army full of the newer ones so they look totally out of place. Great work, keep it up.

Your Rhinos are much cleaner than mine. I like the look though; I never really know how much dirtying down is best.

That old Canoness model is a lovely figure; she makes an excellent Celestian Superior in my opinion.

Out of interest, what's wrong with the storm bolters? I have a squad with three in (two Sisters with storm bolters, and one carried by the Superior). Lotsa dakka!

Inevitable_Faith, only old Mark I Rhinos here, event my Exorcists are based on the Mark I chassis.

Thanks Gen.Steiner, the Storm Bolter is really only an extra shot at long range over a regular Bolter…so not really a special weapon of substance.

Thanks Dysartes, all in good time, I started the army on the old codex when units like that were added in White Dwarf magazine…so I did do a unit.

Now the third Troop Choice, the third Sisters of Battle Squad (when an army has only one troop choice type there is little drama in the announcement):

Again an old Canoness model as a Sister Superior with a Compi-Weapon and the squad does have all five of the variants of the helmetless Sisters with Bolters for variety. This squad is more traditionally armed with a Melta Gun and Flamer combination.

Thanks evildrcheese,

Now that we have worked through Troop choices it is over to Fast Attack. First one is the lead squad of Seraphim who normally escort the Living Saint:

A fairly standard squad of 10 models with two armed with a pair of Hand Flamers and the Sister Superior. One conversion I am particularly proud of is in the back rank, a Seraphim Superior converted into a regular Seraphim (although if I field only one squad and don't want the Sister Superior to have a Plasma Pistol and Power Sword I can swap this model in).

Here she is a three times normal size:

She is the legacy of having obtained at least five or six Seraphim Superiors when making low bid eBay actions...some have been traded away and others converted as at least one lacked a jetpack.

Thank you for the feedback.

Thanks Gen.Steiner,

Second Fast Attack Choice is another Seraphim Squad. It was interesting to note how many Seraphim I picked up over the years with a few here and a few there in almost every Sister's lot I won on eBay. As previously mentioned I had 6 Sister Seraphim Superiors at one point, but the one with a helmet was traded as part of the deal for the Living Saint and another was converted to be on foot with a Bolt Pistol and Chain Sword (in the Command Squad right now) as it was missing the Seraphim backpack.

Thanks Gen.Steiner. Yes, it does take some time, so I don’t usually bother any longer. Although it does add some more detail to the base.

Thanks Cap'n Facebeard, dracpanzer and Mr Morden appreciate the feedback.

Now the last Fast Attack Choice the Dominion Squad:

With four Melta Guns and a Sister Superior with a Combi-Melta…one of the Melta Sisters is a conversion of a Heavy Bolter Sister that I received in an auction who was missing her Heavy Bolter…so a little work with a Marine Melta Gun, a Guardsman hand and now I have four Melta Gun in this squad.

evildrcheese,

I am slowly posting up the completed models as I try to finish off the last dozen, my painting speed used to be about four to six models a week, so no magic I am afraid. No it is even slower.

Thanks to Cap’n Facebeard for your post as well.

Now the Elite section of the Sisters of Battle list, it was always a wasteland with very few choices. I ended up with seven Repentia, no Mistress of Repentence in an eBay lot (I guess the others were used for something else). So this Elite Unit looks like this with a Necromunda Escher standing in with whips to drive the Repentia forward.

The Repentia figures are quite... Marmitey. Either you love 'em or you hate 'em. I enjoyed painting mine up, although I do only have three at the moment! Could we see a close-up of the Escher conversion please, Captain?

The tactics section has a thread regarding Sisters. In there I stumbled upon some useful tips of how to use a T3 assault unit. The key is a priest with the relic that allows for auto-passing hymns and then a Canonness with the eternal warrior relic. You use the Canonness to tank wounds with the re-roll and then use the repentia to pummel people with eviscerators. You also use a rhino to block line of sight to them as you walk forward behind it.

I gave that tactic a shot and had some good results. Took down a necron lord with a unit of lynchguard thanks to doing enough damage to win combat and then sweeping the metallic cowards. Not the easiest unit to use, but could have good results.

As requested, it has been a stopgap and since I tend not to field the Repentia very rarely seen on the battlefield.

Thanks Gen.Steiner, that is exactly what the Simulacrum conversion was supposed to look like, the bones of a saint or priest looking over and inspiring the Sisters.

Now the next Heavy Support Choice are my converted Exorcists. These were constructed long before any model existed (even the early Forge World one).

First one:

To give it the look of the heavier front and side armour I used some old lead Rhino Extra Armour parts. The turret and front upper hatch came from the Whirlwind kit with an Immolator Gunner set between the missiles. I removed the Heavy Flamers and replaced them with purity seals to make the operator more appropriate.

Some close-up's:

It made for a little rear heavy model, so I ended up adding some weight at the forward end.

Thank you Gen.Steiner, Cap'n Facebeard, and Inevitable_Faith for the kind words. I started with the purity seal to cover up scars and damage as the Rhinos were both recycled from eBay and the first Exorcist turret conversion did not go as well as I hoped...but I learned for the second.

Then the backs of the Exorcists, they had been built up with the rear hatch and rear door to bulk the tanks. A neat Idea from another member of the forums.

Since the disappeared from the list I have not fielded them as a unit, in fact the WFB artillery crew member has found a new home and I have looked for more Cawdor to fill in for Priests other models elsewhere, but there just has not been the urge. This figure could double as a Preacher or even a low level Inquisitor.

Now the two on the left of this image were only touched up by me, as they came in an eBay auction in just the right colour scheme and were quite well painted (and based but that is easy work).

Gen.Steiner, I painted my last Vendetta in a grey pattern and it has sat unfinished for quite a while as I have not been loving the paint scheme. Does someone have some of the recent Forge World Imperial Navy patterns to share?

More on the progress of the Avenger:

Now one issue was that the rear gunner would not fit in the after cockpit with the canopy added. So lots of using a file to remove resin.

Did Forge World change all their cockpit canopies to this resin variant versus the old clear plastic you made yourself?

Yes, I was a little surprised myself having purchased and assembled and painted three previous Forge World Aircraft and other than one issue with the troop compartment of a Valkyrie they were great models with superior resin castings.

Work on the nose cone to get it down to a similar size to the fuselage.

More putty repairs and some detail I rebuilt out of styrene card.

Thanks Gen.Steiner,

So from the photos above you will note I had to repair/replace some of the connections to the flaps (ailerons being the outer ones on the other side of the engines).

Tinkered with the weapons adding some rare earth magnets to the outer hard points.

Now I just used the missiles from my Valkyrie kit so far...not certain if I will build all the options or the bare minimum as the Avenger is pretty well armed already.

So two things, first I have finished two Heavy Flamer Sisters to give me some more options for the Sister's Squads.

Second I am starting to question the paint scheme I had chosen for the Avenger, I was going to paint it traditional Order of Our Martyred Lady Black and Red...but now I am thinking I might paint it my standard desert camouflage I used for my Elysian aircraft (you can see it in my Elysian PLOG). HF sisters look great. On the aircraft scheme, personally I prefer aircraft not to have gaudy schemes, so a vote for the camo here. After all, isn't it actually coming from an Imperial Navy reserve? Or am I missing some fluff here?

Nothing technical about it. With a tiny tiny handful of exceptions *cough*Phantine*cough* all aerospace assets are controlled and deployed by the Imperial Navy in support of Imperial Guard ground actions. Adepta Sororitas elements would, along with the Guard, and other Imperial forces, be allocated air support much in line with any modern military - request it, you get it, assuming it's available.

Most of the other exceptions concern Valkyries, Vultures and Vendettas, some of which have been permanently attached to Guard regiments. Although it's worth noting that even in these cases the crews are all still Navy trained and ranked.

Oh, and the Inquisition, who if they wanted, could I suppose order a fleet of Thunderbolts painted electric blue and hot pink and flown by church mice.

OK, the consensus is to paint the Avenger in Imperial Desert pattern colours, picked up my Dark Yellow base.

Since I did the initial black primer and then a dark red I was wondering if anyone had a good idea on removing the red in four areas easily? Then once dry and clean I would just extend the black primer upper works. Then applying my Dark Yellow base on top of a level black primer. I would rather not dunk the who model in Simple Green...it is too large.

As part of my promise to always post images with every PLOG post, here are the three Rhinos I trade with MacPhail (recommended trader) for. Striped them down and removed the superglue to break them down to the constraint parts. MacPhail had built them with some unique chassis extensions to keep them from looking too small beside his Mark II Rhinos and all I am doing is getting them back to the basic Rhino model as that is how the rest of my Sisters tanks are built.

Prepare for more cheap Rhinos or Immolators to purge the enemies of the Imperium.

PS: That means I have found the three Mark I Rhinos I was looking for. Prepare for Immolator spam.

Not sure I completely understand the questions but instead of cleaning the dark red off wouldn't it be possible to just mask around where you want it and re-prime in black? Depending on the areas you do this to you may not have much detail loss to worry about.

Thanks Dysartes.

Now something a little different, a last pair of battles in the old edition:

So I had a couple of battles with my group's resident Tau player. One win and one loss over two battles at 1500 points.

First battle was Purge The Alien with a Hammer and Anvil Deployment. Tau had first turn and with his 1500 points he brought a Riptide with two Shield/Missile Drones, Commander in Suit with Bodyguard and six Marker Drones, two full squads of Firewarriors with all the fixings, an Ion Head, a full Broadside Squad with six Missile Drones, a squad of Pathfinders and an Ethereal for the Feel-No-Pain.

Some photos of the first battle:

These show some of the initial deployments, mostly from the Tau perspective.

What you see in my deployment are the two Exorcists and Retributor Squad (hidden in the ruined building), Canoness with command squad is just in front of the building, three Sister Battle Squads in Rhinos, and an Immolator with Multi-Melta (the transport for the Retributors). My Dominion Squad and Seraphim were in reserve.

Well the Exorcists did yeoman's work and surprisingly the Heavy Bolters of the Retributors did great work as they were just in range of many of the Tau units. My Rhinos were just targets for the Tau weapons and their squads did not get close (although the blasted out hulks made excellent cover - never forget your mission). Dominions did what they do best, take out enemy tanks. Canoness Command Squad was only a glorified target as everyone tries to grab the quick Slay the Warlord victory points.

Save your Exorcist shots for the Riptide and Tanks first, Crisis Suits only make good targets when their Drones have been removed, otherwise they are ablative wounds...especially for Command Squads with the boadguard Shas'vre being characters for 'Look-Out-Sir'.

More shots as the battle progressed.

Here are some Tau Pathfinders moving forward with their scout move to get those Marker Lights in range.

These Broadsides are nasty, with the Drones serving as cannon fodder.

A shot of my Retributors in cover.

Here is the first turn or two as the Sisters try to push forward with Rhinos. I needed to get to the Tau and draw them out otherwise they would remain in cover and snipe away at me for Victory Points.

You can see my Canoness and her Command Squad have used their Faith to get the maximum distance and reach a crater to avoid Tau fire. Already one Rhino is a smoking ruin and is just a crated near the Exorcist. At least the Tau were focused on the transports instead of the Heavy Support tanks.

Next turn and the Canoness is all alone and my other Sisters are starting to bail out. This was due to my failing every reserve role. However the Riptide has taken a lot of Exorcist fire and has failed several saves and the invulnerable ones from the nearby Ethereal...then a reactor failure takes it down to one wound.

Now the Seraphim have finally arrived and only one Rhino remains, but every Sister's squad other than the Canoness is still in the fight.

Finally my reserves come on and the Tau left flank collapses as the combined fire from Exorcists and Retributors destroys the deep striking Tau Command Squad and the Seraphim burn through most of the Broadsides with all their fire.

On the Tau right flank the Dominions have taken out the Ion Head and the Riptide actually feel to small arms fire (a lot of small arms fire).

However I did not have the same success in the second battle with our resident Tau player. For the next battle I tried a different army with a Living Saint instead of a Canoness Command Squad. The Living Saint would accompany a Seraphim squad.

The set-up was diagonal making for a critical area of building ruins right in the center.

The Tau built a firebase situated in the main buildings on their deepest portion of the board.

I built a refused flank set up with most of my vehicles set up behind builds on my left with the intention of trying to hammer his right, which was his very deadly XV-88s with their missile Drones and was isolated enough that his Firewarriors would be too far away to assist, although those two Hammerheads looked ominous and could drive out to cause trouble.

Tau had first turn and used it to do as much damage to me as possible, whenever a Rhino was destroyed the Sisters squad would bail out into cover or start moving to objective sit. The real pain was my one of my Exorcist exploding in spectacular fashion (watch out for those Railguns from Hammerheads).

I stuck to my plan despite the heavy loses as my army was mostly on the table and was concentrated still. Unfortunately I failed a difficult terrain roll and trapped one Rhino before it got off the line. My forces advanced and removed a few Missile Drones from the XV-88s.

Then it was Tau turn two and disaster struck...all his reserves came on and a Riptide and Command Squad landed right where he wanted them...in front of my left flank assault. He hit with everything...I mean everything and destroyed Rhinos or in the case of one squad that had disembarked earlier he wiped them out. His Riptide eliminated the second Exorcist.

My turn and things did not look so good, my reserve roles only brought on one Seraphim squad...and they scattered. Basically to the worst possible spot, out of range of their Bolt Pistols but in range of a whole load of Firewarriors.

Perhaps a better view of that scattering is here.

My first unit of Seraphim were going to die, it was just a matter of when.

My main mechanized units (well not any longer) too the battle in the ruins to the Crisis Suits...but the cost was horrendous leaving on the remnants of two squads in the ruins holding on to objectives.

The Tau took their revenge by destroying the Seraphim drew all the Firewarrior pulse rifle fire and the XV-88's and their drones as well...but they ignored my one remaining Rhino still in play (albeit an empty Rhino). Not only that, there was another unit of Crisis Warriors who had not come on yet...although with the Riptide moving forward there was not much chance I would have any Sister's left to hold the objectives and their victory points. Revenge for the Sisters did come with my Dominion Squad in their Immolator arriving to find two Tau tanks in short range. The Seraphim led by the Living Saint came down...despite deviation they were close to the Tau Firewarriors in one building who had massacred their sisters a turn before. Even better was the lone Rhino accelerated across the table and slammed into the XV-88s in a tank-shock attack...a failed leadership roll and the XV-88's ran off the board!

In the shooting phase, out came the Dominions and their Melta Guns destroyed the Ion gun Hammerhead, the Immolator with it's Multi-Melta removed the Railgun Hammerhead. The Seraphim and Living Saint's fire destroyed a Firewarrior Squad. Now the Tau were faced with the possible loss of their objectives.

A short ranged firefight was raging around the Tau objectives and the Firewarriors even moved out of the second building to get close enough for extra rapid fire shots. Now normally I would always take a short range firefight with my Sisters, however the dice were no landing my way as the Riptides extra shots, the Crisis Suit teams fire and the Firewarriors combined to destroy the Immolator, Dominions, most of the Seraphim and let the Tau control one and contest the other objective.

My counter charge against the Crisis Suit team was short by an inch and thus the game as the Riptide moved in to finish off the last of the Sisters holding the objectives on my side of the board.

Victory for the Tau and a loss for my Sisters. Although by the time all the points were counted it was really close because I had held or contested a lot of objectives before attrition took it's toll.

Apologies the photos are a little grainy, when you are caught up in the action and taking shots during a battle sometimes the photographer has to duck for cover.

Cheers,

CB

Customizing her with a Storm Bolter and Eviscerator...however I think that the regular eviscerators are gone from the CA list...which would make it a Chainsword. :(

Nice work on the Seraphim, and the Canoness is coming together nicely. Love your rich, smooth reds.

It's amazing how well those old Sisters models have held up. Sleek, detailed, and to me, one of the standout ranges to actually capture the feel of 40k. Good stuff!

Thank you tzurk and amazingturtles,

Converted Canoness is pretty well done.

So the Storm Bolter allows the Canoness to keep up fire at a range in line with the Sister squads around her.

Obviously the model pose does not lend itself to holding the Storm Bolter in two hands, so I built a smaller version...even so it is still quite large.

So I took photos with two different backgrounds (blue and white) and I am wondering which looks better.

Here are Geminae Superia converted from metal Seraphim and Seraphim Superior models with the white

You have already seen the blue.

Personally I prefer black or white backgrounds (they are colour neutral) but the blue background has certainly made the colours on the models pop much more and show up clearly. The same could be achieved on a white background but you'd have to play with camera settings to get the colours to pop since white backgrounds tend to flare lighting and wash the colours out. For simplicity I say blue is the easier background.

Headswap on the SB?

I always think of Sister Badass pulling the pin on the grenade with her teeth when people talk about the advantages of multipose plastics. Sure, you get customization and variety, but you are never going to be able to recreate some things that you can only get in monopose sculpts. I’d love to be proven wrong. They could make a bespoke arm/shoulder/head bit to recreate her. But I fear that new players may never know the joy of having that particular characterful model in their armies.

Yes, last bit in a lot I traded for...I have some that I did not want to add and they are in my Swap Shop thread.

As for the very last Sisters models...I am at a bit of a crossroads. I have a complete painted army, with pretty well every option I would want to field. That said, my vehicles are all Mark I's and I have obtained five of the newer models (Exorcists, Immolators and a Repressor)...at first I was ready to just start painting them...but they are so different in size from the old vehicles that they look weird together, so I would field them only in smaller games. So the dilemma is do I paint up the new ones or remain content with the large paint mobile units I already have?

Thanks Ezki.

OK, question for everyone, should I glue the whole model together or make the turret/organs separate from the hull?

I have built the Rhino hull and now have to decide whether to glue the plastic turret base to the rest of the hull. That is the Sisters of Battle turret that the organ pipes and other metal parts are glued to.

For storage the two parts would be easiest, but the organs and other metal parts are really heavy and weighted towards the back of the model.

Would love to hear from others who have finished the kit.

Thoughts?

As a suggestion you could try some strong magnets.

I have never built the kit, or even a Rhino for that matter, so I'm afraid I can't provide further insight on how to execute this.

Captain Brown Paints Sisters of Battle - 300+ pictures - Sisters Repentia Unit @ 2019/06/05 14:28:24

Post by: Camkierhi

I would try the two part route to start with, you can always glue it down later if necessary. I would also second Ezki, on the strong magnet idea, some 20mm magnets are seriously finger pinchers, and would work nicely.

Captain Brown Paints Sisters of Battle - 300+ pictures - Sisters Repentia Unit @ 2019/06/05 15:20:01

Post by: MacPhail

My thought is always "how many different tanks can I run with this kit?" I'd try to magnetize in a way that you can run Immolator or Exorcist, which gets you the easy breakdown for storage and transport too. I bet a strong magnets mounted to the bottom of the (if I remember correctly) two metal base pieces could reach through the holes on the top plate to find a rectangular piece of card with corresponding magnets mounted to the back of it. The whole top plate with Exorcist parts could stay magnetized together for transport and play, but also be pulled apart to mount Immolator components. If you were really crafty with magnets and card you could build a permanent magnetic surface inside the Rhino's roof to secure either kit (and having watched the Chiliwack come together, you are plenty crafty with card).

Thank you for the ideas Ezki, Camkierhi and MacPhail,

I will build the two parts separate for now and figure out the magnets before it see's the gaming table.

Progress:

That back part was a real pain to fix so that it would sit properly on the Immolator turret.

After what seemed like hours of sanding and flash removal I have two main components and some small stuff I will secure after painting is complete.

Thank you Max Moray, Tyranid Horde, Camkierhi, Meer_Cat, Ezk, Bellerophon, Dysartes and Inevitable_Faith,

I have entered her in this month's Unofficial Painting Challenge [June], but you have to see some of the other entries.

The Riddle of Steel wrote:Wow, I just saw the full army pictures on the last page. Your combination of output and quality are truly impressive. That may be the biggest fully-painted Sisters army I have seen. You must have a good system. Good job on getting such a large project done to a high standard. Hobby goals, right here.

Thank you The Riddle of Steel. Just a long time of slowly adding another painted model or squad here and there.

I have five tanks that I can paint to replace the Mark Is and I was going to pick up the Warhammer Day Sister (although every one at my local GW shop were spoken for when I visited it this morning). Really was not planning on any more unless I can get some Sister doors/hatches to convert SM Rhinos into SoB ones.

Thanks Briancj,

So for this month's painting competition I will be entering a Sisters of Battle Repressor. It is officially a Suppressor conversion kit built by Rivet Zone Enterprises that I decided I would try out. Now like the Exorcist I have some push to get it painted.

When finished it will be my second Mark II tank.

Outstanding work. You definitely have the knack.

I'll have to take a look at Rivet Zone at some point. I'm getting the urge to build an Arbites Repressor or two for some serious "community-based policing".

Captain Brown Paints Sisters of Battle - 300+ pictures - Sisters Repentia Unit @ 2019/08/10 16:05:09

Post by: Captain Brown

Thanks oldravenman3025,

Rivet Zone was very easy to deal with and recommended.

As noted I required some bling to make my Repressor stand out.

So I began with some putty and made purity seals.

On plastic, so they could be easily removed once dry.

Then placed on a popsicle stick and painted.

Then the scriptures were added, painted and inscribed.

The Exorcist had so many, so I figured the Repressor would have some as well.

A Rhino that I will convert to a Sister's of Battle one.
Spoiler:

Going to add the top hatch left over from my Exorcist kit and the blank side doors left over from the Rhino kits used for the Repressor.
Spoiler:

The two smooth side doors that I will add some Bretonnian fleur-de-lys transfers to.
Spoiler:

Adding a magnet to make a Hunter Killing Missile addition if desired.
Spoiler:

Barrel drilled Storm Bolter and the top hatch...I used the Razorback base one and just trimmed the Sister top hatch to fit.

The extra height from the conversion kit really adds a lot to this model. And all the effort on the extra bits you added was well worth it. The final effect is very impressive.

The rhino also looks top-notch. That’s a neat trick with the magnet to not have it showing when the missile is not attached. Very cool.

Should I enter both models or just stick with the Repressor?

Yorkright, black line first, followed by a white line within the black creating a black outline, then a black done in the centre of the white and touching the black outline at the top and bottom.

Since I mounted her on a 25mm base, these photos are over three times her actual size.

The white background is the only one that does not bleed out the hair.

Thanks Theophony,

Well I have put together most of one of the Immolators. Here is a WIP shot of all the magnets I am adding to the main hull.

And in this shot I am building a combination magnet and metal sheet to keep the turret/gunner in place, but swappable with another turret to make a Rhino.

Here is Sister Superior Amalia Novena with a blue background, it makes some colours pop, but bleeds out the white.

Worked on one of the Immolators. After priming I decided to try and make a Storm Bolter Hatch to fit where the Gunner sits on the Immolator so it could double as a Rhino.

Made from an old Rhino Mark I turret hatch and some of the extra parts in the Immolator kit (with some small rare earth magnets to keep it in place during games). Just left the sprue inside the Immolator hatch to support the extra sprue holding the magnets.

Cheers gobert, in the past I probably would have, but due to the time crunch I am just going to accept that no additional kit will be on that corner.

Thank you Brian, Yorkright and Ezki.

It has been a while, but the Sisters are back in the queue starting with an Exorcist for the Monthly Painting Challenge.

I have picked up three old metal Sisters with Standards that I am going to convert into Imagifiers. It was not cheap...I was hoping more would be available at a reasonable price as many folks are switching over to the new plastics. One I received listed as used but complete was even missing part of it's standard, so I have made a conversion holding a Sisters of Battle vehicle Icon.

First one in progress, Icon but together from a cut-up vehicle Icon.

The next two in progress. but further behind, including the one with it's short staff (now with an Icon with a hole drilled in the back stuck into the stump).

If anyone has an old one of these they do not intend to use, let me know.

Nice stuff! Army shots look great.

Avenger is pretty sweet, shame the kit looked a bit off, always liked that model.

Big props for the range of old school rhino variants - even if that's currently changing

Good work rescuing the icon bearer. Quite fluffy rescue job too, honouring a vehicle that fell in battle doing some heroic deed perhaps? Good luck with the rhino

Nice work Captain! She looks like she's holding the icon up to enforce morale, but also in a pinch may throw it through some heretics or lower it and use it as a lance

Thank you gentlemen,

The next two are finished.

All three of the new ones together.

And all five, the first two built years ago.
