LAURA ANDERSSEN

Once a clean living preacher's wife, Laura had the misfortune of getting caught up in a bank heist perpetrated by Broad Arrow Jack. The notorious outlaw was forced to take Laura hostage after one of his accomplices shot a bank teller dead. While the rest of his gang were cut down by the local Sheriff, Jack made his getaway with Laura and rode out into the mountains far from the town. When Jack rode back into town a month later, Laura was by his side, now his partner in every sense of the word. Together they held up that same bank once more and Laura proved to be a cunning outlaw, not afraid of making use of her considerable charms to get what she wants. Though aware that while Jack might have other girls out there, Laura knows that when she rides out with him, he only has eyes for her.

HARMONY RACHET

Unfazed by the mournful screams of the dying or the agonised screams of the reanimated, the assistance of Harmony Rachet is in high demand amongst the Enlightened. A most capable student of medicine, Harmony's journey began after several years as assistant to her father, the noted Arkansas surgeon James Rachet. The brutality of the Civil War formed the backdrop for Harmony carrying out her bloody work with countless amputations saving many Confederate lives. After the war, her father now retired, Harmony found her options limited. But as chance would have it, a speaker in the art of galvanism led her to the patronage of Countess Augusta Byron and her path into the Enlightened was assured.

Yes they will have cards. All miniatures released up to Jan 17 will have updated cards included in the card set. Releases from Feb 2017 should have their own cards - until the next Roundup card set is released and so on.

Did you see our press release?

Assembly and some manufacturing is moving to the UK. However there should be distributors in place for most regions by January. We will be making sure retailers are the best place to obtain this game.

If you look at the FAQ it should answer many of your questions: http://www.warcradle.com/wwxpurchase/FAQPurchaseofWWX.pdf

@warcradle: A request, can you add sprue pics of the plastic kits on the website (per product)? And make a filter for plastic kits (search/selection)? I'm currently willing to buy good quality plastic, but not resin. I think there are many of us in the same boat and easy to search for plastic will make it easier for us to be tempted.

hi wayland team,
can you share how much stuff is left over from the old team and how long until we see new stuff from the new team?
i really like what i'm seeing so far but unfortunately i ask myself every time i see something new is if it is just left overs from the old team and have to wonder if we will see the same great stuff once all of the old stuff runs out.

Hiya, Nimue is completely new, it does say in our post above , we will tend to indicate where a release is completely new or from concepts that exist already. We are planning releases for 2 years at the moment, of those only about 20% are existing concepts. And of those existing concepts we think most have never been seen at all. The rest are all new.

Just an FYI for those that like the looks of this game and are thinking about starting out.

Coolminiornot is having a sale of their stock for this game.

I just bought the 2 player starter, some extra lawmen and outlaws, and the warrior nation box and a few extras (45 models) for @ $76 shipped.

I don't know that I will play WWE, however I have some ideas for using these models in This Is Not A Test and Necromunda (Orlocks, Van Saar, and Ratskins).

Good luck!

If you are referring to the Rolling Thunder (the one with the cow catcher on front), keep an eye on eBay. Sometimes you can find one on there for a nice price. I got mine for about $35.00 earlier this year, and have seen a few others in that same ballpark since then.

Yes, that's the one...

Though I'm still hoping that if you don't have vehicles that you won't be in too much trouble in WWX?

Post by: BigDaddio

That really depends on what happens with the second edition of the rules. From what I see on FB and the WWX forum, plenty of people hardly if ever use the heavy vehicles, though it seems they do show up quite a bit in tournaments. Personally I am not a huge fan of most of them (aesthetically and game wise) but I think they will be fun to play once in a while, or used as scenery. I much prefer the light support vehicles, like the Iron Horses.

Introducing Edyth LaVaughn & Hawkeye

Exodus news this week sees two new miniatures, Edyth LaVaughn for the Union and Hawkeye for the Warrior Nation. These fantastic models will be released at the end of February.

EDYTH LAVAUGHN

The two things that Edyth LaVaughn was taught from a young age by her parents was that you stand up to bullies and that you always finish what you started. As an adult, this attitude shaped Edyth into a strong and honourable Lieutenant for the Union Army.

Excelling at ranged as well as small unit tactics, LaVaughn has carried the day on several occasions by sheer perseverance alone. More recently she has come to the attention of the fledgling Secret Service as her rescue of Agent Blanche from Warrior Nation territory enabled the Union to obtain important information regarding their conflict with the shadowy forces known as the Hex.

PRE-ORDER Now here http://www.wildwestexodus.com/the-union/38636-edyth-lavaughn or get in touch with your local retailer.

HAWKEYE

Hawkeye was hunting for elk when the creature once known as Walks Looking came to the camp and stole away her sister, Little Bird. Worse than death, her sister has been transformed into the vile Necratu. It was only Hawkeye's great respect for Sitting Bull that prevented her from riding out to try and slay her twisted sister and the spectral monster that had corrupted her.

After meditation with Raven Spirit, Hawkeye agreed to work with Sitting Bull on his plan to save his daughter. After all, perhaps the path to the salvation of Walks Looking might also be a path to save Little Bird one day?

She looks pretty neat. Definitely looks like what a warcaster for Cryx or that Thamarite Pirate in Warmachine should have looked like, though.

So what exactly is going on with that base? It looks like she is causing that wave, what with it pushing forward, but then the mechanical snake thing looks as though it's coming from beneath it? What is she standing on, her submarine? I mean it looks pretty cool, I just can't make sense of it.

Love it. Model looks great, and I like that it will be plastic. Two questions though:

1. Are the pirates a new faction or a subfaction of mercs? I only ask as we have 10 factions already.

2. Will the cards for the first four kickstarter exclusive ladies of the west (ones being reissued with cards, up for pre order now) be available for those of us who own them already from the first kickstarter?

Liking everything I see so far! Looks like this brand sale is moving in the right direction!!

The cards for the LOTW minis are in the card set that has been updated on the WWX site, further revisions are likely due on Monday following feedback. That will then be the card set in the "The Last Roundup" Printed product.

Also there are now sprue pics on products.

I should probably also add that they shipped my order Priority Mail for the normal shipping cost. Not sure if they do that with all orders (or all orders of certain weight/amount) or if they are trying to make up for the delay in processing. So hopefully this means when your orders ship you get them soon thereafter.

For anyone interested, some WWX players have been participating in a monthly painting challenge on one of the FB groups:

Nothing official, just fans motivating one another to get stuff painted. I started some models tonight and hope to get them done by the end of the month (my upcoming week off will help!).

It's Friday and I've managed to sneak a couple of videos out of the Warcradle Studio while they've been out Christmas shopping! We can get a look at two Legendary Boss miniatures coming out in plastic early next year.

Here's Legendary Walks Looking for the Warrior Nation. As with all our Legendary miniatures, they can be mounted on a normal base too. Those blades she carries are purely projections of spirit energy from her own mind and can appear, slice and disappear with just a thought. No scabbard needed for this lethal lady!

Here's Legendary Rani Nimue, who some of you may have seen before but this is now with her finalised base too. As with all our Legendary miniatures, they can be mounted on a normal base too.

I barely glanced at the actual post- didn't realize they're going to be plastic.

Really liked that Walks Looking from the video and dismissed it as I didn't want to fiddle with resin (as I've got way more resin WWX figures that need building as it is).

For whatever reason plastics seem to get priority in the painting cue and shoot straight to the top!

Plastic changes things...

I had the same question. She used to be a Sidekick for Warrior Nation, then a Boss for the Dark Nation. And that's a Legendary Boss version... so I guess she's become untainted in the storyline? Unless it's a Legendary Boss for the Dark Nation.

There's another model that's coming out for Warrior Nation with this fluff:

So maybe Walks Looking is coming back?

There are two new resin miniatures on their way for release on the 25th of March, Magenta Alpha and Bass Reeves. Take a look below to see them in all their glory, these are now up for pre-order on the WWX website.

MAGENTA ALPHA

The Watchers make use of a number of specialised species to achieve their overall goals. Often additional genetic conditioning and refinement is required so that the species is completely suitable for the greater purpose they serve. Though their original designation is known only to the Watchers themselves, the Magenta are one such species . Re-purposed for for the cleansing of the Earth, the Magenta Alpha leads her vanguard as a formidable assault asset. Superior in almost every way to the humans she hunts, the Magenta Alpha is as merciless as she is deadly.

It's worth noting that this model is on a 40mm base and stands about 50mm tall (and she is leaning over), which makes her an imposing boss for her posse.

Pre-Order The Magenta Alpha now Online or at your local stockist for £16.99

MARSHAL BASS REEVES

Working near Enlightened Territory, Bass Reeves earned a reputation for both fairness and determination. This reputation and his skills at the fast draw settled many of the disputes he dealt with during his long career. Despite this, he still managed to arrest over three thousand outlaws and cutthroats! Recent events have led Bass Reeves to take a posse of Lawmen further afield, righting wrongs and bringing true justice to those that need it in these dark times.

Pre-Order The Bass Reeves now Online or at your local stockist for - £9.99

This is a good looking model. The face doesn't match the concept art, but the facial features do remind me of Will Smith from Wild Wild West, so that is cool.

Reeves is pretty neat, but the little details are killing it for me. How does he draw his guns from those cinched up holsters?

He doesn't need to un-holster them- he just pulls them up with his superfluous belts.

I actually think that's the correct level for crossdraw, butt of the gun neat your waist.

No no, not talking about the height of the holsters. I'm talking about the fact that at the top opening of the holsters, its cinched in to the grip of the gun, which means it's cinched over the trigger/trigger guard, preventing it from being drawn smoothly.

Notice here, on a real holster, how the gun will be able to draw smoothly:

Meet our new promotional miniature for 2017 - Feeling Excited!

We've got some exciting news regarding the recently previewed Legendary Captain Nimue miniature for Wild West Exodus. From April 2017 she will be our promotional miniature!

That mean that this stunning plastic multi-part figure will be available for free at all shows that Warcradle attend in 2017 as well as being available in your local game stores as part of our retailer promotional support kits (to be released in April). For us this makes an important statement about how serious we are in promoting and supporting this fantastic game. In particular we want to show how we view the community and want to give retailers and demo teams the best possible tools in showcasing Wild West Exodus.

Legendary Captain Nimue will available at events and shows worldwide in 2017. We are also working on supplying retailers and distributors so that you don't need to attend a show to get hold of one. Finally, once this year is over we will be adding the exact same miniature to our main range meaning that if you aren't able to pick one up this year, you will still be able to purchase it at your local retailer or online. So no need to worry about having to pay a scalper an over inflated price for her in 2018!

The Enlightened's doyen of galvanism, the domineering Countess Augusta Byron is an imposing woman. Being both Intellectual and immortal is a potent combination and her flesh bears the marks of decades of amputation and augmentation as she replaces ageing or aesthetically displeasing body parts.

Rumours abound of a vault at her estate containing refrigerated chunks of compatible cadavers. One apocryphal tale speaks of the Countess admiring the beauty of a particularly porcelain featured maid in her service. The poor servant was never heard of again and the Countess was pleased with the compliments her own newly refined features garnered at the following Enlightened symposium.

The secret to the Countess' long life is her repeated reanimation through the application of a proprietorial combination of conductive material implanted into her body. Along with an alchemical cocktail coursing through her bloodstream the Countess makes prodigious application of lightning harnessed for such a purpose and held deep within her flesh. In times of defence the Countess can draw on the voltaic charge within her and hurl lightning bolts at her would be attackers, however she is more likely to have them dismembered by one of her ghoulish creations with the raising of an eyebrow and a sneer.

Don't know if anyone caught this, but FRP carries WWX now and the 2 player starter set (Outlaws vs Lawmen) is only $40 discounted off a retail of $50. Kind of glad I passed up the 2 player starter at Gen Con now in favor of a couple faction starters.

Excited for the new stuff, can't wait to get all my preorders! Only thing I wish is that the promotional mini would also be available for sale on the wwx website. That would make it easy for those of us who can't make conventions to get one.

Why make an exclusive, especially since the kickstarter exclusive ladies from both ks are not exclusive anymore

You will be able to get her at all events we attend, once available. Through organized play, through store events and through lots of events even if Warcradle are not attending themselves. We will make sure any store running events gets them.

I know the game is in a transitional mode since ownership changed hands fairly recently, but I am quite pleased with what I have been seeing and hearing so far. I am thinking that by this time next year the game will see significant growth in exposure and player-base. Really looking forward to it!

Introducing Legendary Nura Holy Order

Within the Order, Elita Nura was only recently raised to the rank of Sircan following years of service in the field as a Mimreg during the Third Phase of the Crusade. Nura's selection was initially something of a disappointment to her, as with the construction of the Apotheosis Gates she yearned for the chance to join the Cor Caroli. Unlike many of her rank within the Order, Nura was fully aware of what apotheosis to a Cor Coroli entails but this knowledge did nothing to dampen her zeal. Her fervent desire to serve the Order more fully was thus recognised by the Allshard and so Nura has been given command of the Portal Vanguard - the Astraea.

Within the Council she is considered a fractious zealot, a suitable counterpoint to Sircan Abner. Unlike her elder, Nura believes that the last battle against the Hex fast approaches so she pushes for Phase Five of the Crusade to be enacted. As such, Nura's voice is the most extreme within the Order as she seeks to provoke a suitably devastating encounter with the Hex that would justify the declaration of Phase Five and all-out war.

When in the field acting as the Allshard's instrument she is equally impatient to bring about the unveiling of the Order's true mission. This reveals itself as a disdain for the use of subterfuge and stealth, instead portal jumping into combat directly and taking her foe unawares with the precision application of overwhelming force against those tainted by the Hex through absorption of its essence or simply through being manipulated by the Dark Council. She finds that the seismic powers of her Luminant Staff more than capable of eliminating either type of foe.

For now her violent excesses and insistent urgings for progression of the Crusade have been forestalled by the patient testimony and sermonising of Sircan Abner but as open war looms ever closer it is only a matter of time before she gains enough support on the Council to convince the Allshard to begin the next phase of the Crusade. Nura's commitment to the Order is absolute and her greatest fear is that her faith in its mission should be found wanting in this most desperate hour, a fear whose voice she drowns out with strident calls for war. Should she learn of Sircan Abner's true reasons for wanting to stall the furtherance of the Crusade she would decry him to the Allshard in an instant and perform his permanent excommunication personally.

    Introducing "Broad Arrow Jack"

The frontier is a place where legends are born but not necessarily earned. Few men have born as many legends Broad Arrow Jack. That doesn't surprise Jack though, he told most of them himself.

Jack is a grifter, always working deals in an effort to make his big score and retire somewhere warm. He's good at what he does too due to his predilection for sidestepping the law. As he has been heard to remark "The law is what other people do.". As yet he hasn't gotten round to retiring. More often than not he will spend his winnings on a good time with a bad woman (or even occasionally a bad time with a good woman) which leaves him penniless and in need of a new mark.

Woman really are Jack's weakness. He's had many wives and still does as he doesn't believe in divorce. Jack has a wife in every state he has laid low in for any amount of time, moving on when the money and opportunities have run out. It's not hard to see why; Jack is everyone's pal who is generous with his cash when his troubles are far on the horizon.

If trouble does comes calling or if someone foolishly stands in the way of Jack's prize then a different man emerges. This Jack is cold blooded killer, quick with his knife and quicker with his pistol, uncaring of the widows left in his wake. This is the Jack who surely earned the scars littered across his body but what of the large arrow branded into the flesh on his back? Occasionally Jack alludes to his past, but each audience receives a different tale. Whatever the truth, he refuses to be shackled and will fight like a man possessed if a deputy comes his way, a panicked desperation in his otherwise usually charismatic eyes.

    Hi there,

well there are a few at Adepticon not many but a few.

At Salute in London on April 22md... there will be some - well alot.... if you look in your show bag
If you visit our stand you will see a larger version.

Then at every show we attend this year we will have them to give away, including shows in the US.
We are also giving them to retailers running events and attending shows to give away.

Guess it's ebay for me then. Hopefully the event attendees don't scalp the minis price too much on ebay. Not many conventions occur in central wisconsin, nor do any retailers around here carry wwx (do all my buying directly from both kickstarters, wwx website, and nobleknight.

I've always bought or preordered every wwx mini as each was released (have done so now with the switch in ownership, but I usually wait until closer to the release date). Sad there isn't a chance to buy one or get one as it's now being released at cons, without going to them.

Please someone pick one up and ebay it so I have a chance!

Yeah, hope it sees retail soon. Looks good but getting to a big convention is troublesome for me.

Are any of the other new releases plastic as well, or will they all be resin still?

There is a promotional miniature each year. So 2018 will be a new miniature and Legendary Nimue will join the main range at retail.

If you can't get to a convention/show where they are being given away, just get your FLGS to stock WWX. We send out a bunch of the promo minis to distros and retailers to give away as prizes, incentives etc. US retailers can get WWX from Alliance and Golden Distribution. There are more distros and retailers being added all the time. Spanish and neighbouring European retailers can get it from Dia Cash, for example.

There's a ton of new releases planned with a minimum of two new releases each month. The releases will be a mixture of resin and plastic depending on what they are, but we have several plastic kits in production already as well as some awesome products a little later in the year which we'll announce over the summer!

"If you see the President, tell him from me that whatever happens there will be no turning back." - General Odysseus Grant, Battle of Bradshaw City 1872

A new logo for a new edition! Warcradle Studios are pleased to present the new logo for Wild West Exodus. This dark and exciting science-fantasy game will see a brand new edition released on 30th September 2017.

The world of Wild West Exodus is a dark reflection of our own. Some of the events that defined our past never happened and the heroes we cherish never existed, while greater conflicts and bolder individuals have taken their place. It is a setting where forces from beyond our own world have a stake in the events that play out here, a millennia old contest now fought on the soil of our Earth. It is a place where a gunfighter can squeeze their trigger and change the fate of humanity; where warrior nations proudly stand against the relentless onslaught of so-called civilisation. It is a world where progress and scientific enlightenment has been embraced at the cost of mankind's soul and where the dreams of empire may be fanned into the flames of conflict once more.

We love reasons to collect and play with miniatures. We have a host of new plastic and resin miniatures in production as well as a wealth of new background material detailing the struggle for the destiny of humanity played out in the Wild West and beyond.

Those hobbyists looking to get into Wild West Exodus and those retailers looking to stock it can rest assured that we will be providing complimentary copies of the new rules for free to all those who have purchased a copy of the first edition from their retailer, distributor or from wildwestexodus.com. So you can jump aboard with Wild West Exodus right now and have no worries about being forced to buy new rules in six months’ time (as hobbyists, we hate that too!)

All the existing miniatures are being retained in the new edition so you can make use of the whole range. We will announce details of our expanding range of new products as well as details of how to get hold of your copy of the new rules over the coming months.

Those hobbyists looking to get into Wild West Exodus and those retailers looking to stock it can rest assured that we will be providing complimentary copies of the new rules for free to all those who have purchased a copy of the first edition from their retailer, distributor or from wildwestexodus.com. So you can jump aboard with Wild West Exodus right now and have no worries about being forced to buy new rules in six months’ time (as hobbyists, we hate that too!)

it doesn't mention the kickstarter copies but i would hope they'll cover those as well.

It will indeed include KS Backers.

Regarding the specifics, we will be sharing more information about the process closer to release. Ideally it will be through retailers and distributors, however we do totally understand that some people cannot get to a retailer without a significant journey so will have other options.

From small bits and pieces I have heard and seen online I am predicting quite a few changes to the game mechanics (and I believe Warcradle has said they plan on changing some core mechanics). One of their staff posted this photo on FB recently, which teases some of the 2nd edition changes:

Not sure exactly where they are headed with the new rules, but I'm curiously watching for further hints. :-)

    Action deck? Hmm....

Hope you can still do things without drawing cards like before (moving, shooting, abilities, etc). Wwx was awesome before, it juat needed a bit of updating the special rules and balance of units (should be fixed with the new cards).

I am wondering if maybe the deck is for activating models or something, maybe each player with a hand to use each round.

The "Megan Wild" card in the image is a sample profile card from the second edition. It seems very different than the current cards, with the keywords and the six-gun chamber icon seeming to contain stats of some kind (and that's just what we can see in the picture...who knows what else is on the card).

The Viridian have been at the forefront of Watcher incursions across the galaxy for millennia. Though the Watchers take pains to leave no witnesses to their involvement in the shaping of sentient life, their likeness is captured in the crudely drawn cave paintings, diagrams from ancient manuscripts, petrified wood carvings and any other number of ancient records preserved for prosperity and displayed within museums or held as research material for universities on a number of worlds. On Earth, their species has become known as the Locusts.

The Viridian Alpha is larger than its more numerous Locust kin. Its powerfully muscled frame is covered with a gnarled hide complemented with additional armour plates that incorporate various alien devices and defensive systems. It wields the Viridian Staff, a symbol of office and deadly weapon able to cleave a man in twain with a single blow. Mounted on the Viridian Alpha’s shoulders is a Reaper Array sporting two independently targeting energy weapons of formidable power.

As the Watcher’s goal nears the critical juncture, raids against humanity become more numerous as materials are gathered and possible threats eliminated. Posses find themselves faced with a new threat as the alien invaders are encountered more frequently and their presence more brazen. The Viridian Alpha is quite the match for anything a posse of weak and feeble humans might throw at him. To complicate matters further he often leads his Viridian Clade who harry their enemies on the ground as well as from the air. The Alpha's nickname of ‘King Locust’, or sometimes the ‘Big Bastard’, is well deserved.

Looking forward to meeting old players and new, and to start publicly revealing all the fun we have been having getting second edition ready to show.

Stu and I will be on the stand showcasing specifics and talking about the plans for the new edition (with a rather shiny new display board), while alongside us, Daren and his trained demo crew will be taking people through some small scale games, to give people hands on experience of the new engine.

As mentioned, if you don't have a first edition rulebook ,you can grab one free from us this weekend, and if you do, then you will be entitled to a free copy of the second edition rules when they launch later in the year.

    What's to lose?

    See folks there.

That's a good question; they are wonderful models! For first edition I use them with my Outlaw posse, as they can all currently work for that faction. Will be interesting to see which factions they can join in 2nd Edition. IIRC, Warcradle has mentioned in some interviews that posse selection will be a different process in the new edition, and there's been talk of new factions and blurring the edges of existing ones. Very curious to see what news we can gather from Salute this weekend!

Not sure I'll have time, but later tonight I may try to whip up a quick summary of what's been revealed thus far. Warcradle have implied that more from Salute will be revealed this week (whether from them or other gaming sources, not sure). I did manage to find a youtube video that had showed a quick pan of the "Deadly 7" models (starting around 6:13) that from what has been said will be in the new 2-player boxed set when 2nd edition comes out:

Okay, so I went ahead an threw together a quick list of the new edition. Bear in mind some of these statements are from gamers that tried the new rules at Salute, others (many) are directly from staff at Warcradle.

    • Old stats have been replaced with: Quickness, Mind, Limit, Grit, Aim, and Fight.

    • No more lifeblood, you take a wound you die. Characters are harder to kill. The vehicle damage table has gone too.

    • How are boss/underboss/sidekick characters made more durable without Lifeblood?
Grit stats are generally better and abilities can make them able to re roll or make them better stats. Think of it as having a better armour save that you can buff through various means (cover, moving target etc). So now it's slightly more realistic in that if you stand still in the open and shoot at people you will get yourself killed fairly easily, but if you are hugging cover and ducking and diving around the board it's harder to hit you

    • Heroes can pass wounds onto hands within 3″ or use influence to reroll the ‘guts’ stat.

    • Hired hands come in units now and activate together.

    • Influence or ‘fortune’ as it’s now known is for heroes only and is a very precious resource.

    • The main stat drop from the card is action points they are now randomly drawn, dependent on situation you could lose or gain action points to what you have drawn (pinned down, stuck in cover etc).

    • You draw an activation card at the start of the round to see who gets initiative. Then each activation you draw a card to see how many actions you can do from 1-4. Each unit / character has a maximum level of activations you can use so you need to be tactical with who you use what on.

    • Activations are also costed differently so a move is one activation. A second move would cost 2 activations so a hired hand with a limit of 2 couldn’t move / move. A move followed by a shoot would count as to separate activations and only cost 1 action each

    • Still based on d10 and successes are rolled against your stat vs 10. For example your aim is 6 you need to roll 4′s for a success.

    • The game feels much cleaner, quicker paced and definitely has a more balanced feel. Also the activation cards give you a sense of gambling which sits nicely in a wild west game!

    • Marcus Wayward will be a boss for the wayward 8.

    • Army factions are now done by buying multiple posses. Each posse will be a boxed set by itself, think malifaux with each set being a unit of characters/hired hand mix. There is some keywords that are used like age of sigmar for cross faction and selecting army. For example confederate rebellion (which are now being rolled into the outlaw/misfits faction) has stonewall Jackson, his posse is x amount of points and includes stonewall, Ben Hamilton and 5 hired hands. I can then add Jesse James posse with frank and hired hands (Jesse historically being a confederate), I can could then add Annabelle Hamilton (new enlightened character, sister of Ben, sculpts looked awesome) and her posse that would be my army consisting of 3 separate posses/formations that all have the keyword confederate even though they are technically 3 different factions at the moment and could still be used in their own factions. So it adds variety that also gives you a narrative for building your forces and making your army "your guys"

    • There are new Wayward Eight miniatures coming out, but of course you can use the current ones if you wish! You will want the new wayward 8, the sculpts are 10 times better and have way more character, look at for new flowing river, pretty much doing they splits with the tomahawk and sword

    • Faction list:
    The union
    The lawmen
    The hex
    The order
    The watchers
    Warrior nation
    Outlaws/mercs/misfits
    The enlightened
    The crown (new faction)
    The celestials (new faction)

    • Golden army are becoming outlaws being split as separate posses, so Mexican revolutionaries and the conquistadores that are heading towards hex affiliation (fountain of youth might not have been pure...).

The Chinese rail workers posse is one of the first things I asked and they are getting a release looking at a January. Of the back of that there is a full faction called the celestials coming in 2019 that revolves around the immortal jade emperor and how they want to gain control of the hex/substance.

    • Ponce de Leon and his posse are like a centuries old dirty dozen and are pursuing their own plans fighting evil wherever they find it, killing natives and generally trying to conquer!

    • Think of the Outlaws as regiments of renown or dogs of war where each boss and posse is really thematic and while you can ally them together in an eclectic mix of charismatic rivals, you can also use them as mercenaries and ally them into other factions creating new and exciting army combinations. So rather than old factions being folded into the Outlaws, it's more like the Outlaws have been expanded to include them.

    • There are no minimums to a posse. You can just take bosses if you want (fielding an army like the Avengers). In the basic faction posse you can take any boss and any characters for that posse. Each boss also has a themed posse that has more specific requirements but even then characters appear in multiple lists.

    • So I could take an outlaw faction posse and pick any outlaw boss, say Pancho Villa, Stonewall Jackson, Marcus Wayward, Jessie James, Earle Shepherd, Johnny Ringo, William Quantrill, Marie Laveau or one of the others. Slot one in the Outlaw faction Poss...See More

    • About the rulebook layout for 2nd edition: Currently it’s looking like an introductory piece to explain the setting, then the rules, then a section for each faction, detailing background for each (not in a story format). Two pages per boss detailing background, Posse rules etc. Finally a page per unit, detailing background for each. Short stories (half a page each) scattered throughout. Second edition is a big book...

    • All first edition units are playable.

    • Confederate Rebels arent going anywhere. They are just appropriately being labeled Outlaws... this will blur the lines on what Rebels can bring to bear... think of the Jesse James trilogy... the army he built with the rebels will fit into how posse builds work in 2.0...

    • There are atleast four confederate characters available this year for second edition

    • Line-of-sight similar to infinity, base to base measurement, with a height related to base size not the models pose.

    • Different templates. Halos work differently.

    • There are free new cards available online from day one of launch.

    • Faction specific decks will be released for those people who have a need of physical unit cards.

    • There are plans for an app, but think more like a card gazette rather than a war room type app.

    • Underbosses and sidekicks are now all 'faces'

    • If you have a first edition rulebook you will get a free physical 2nd edition rulebook

    • Open Beta in May

Yeah, I originally was thinking the same thing, but the statements in my summary regarding that are, I think, explanations from gamers and may be a bit off. The concern was expressed on FB and Warcradle implied that there is actually more freedom to build your force than previously. I'm quite eager to see the Beta Rules once they are posted next month.

In terms of the health thing, we know it's the biggest "huh" moment in the transition to second ed.

However, between re-rolls from fortune, the guts rule on faces and the ability to palm off damage to other nearby models, bosses and faces tend to be dropped in between two to four wounding hits, which from my discussions with first ed players roughly matches the older damage system.

Vehicles and big beasts can similarly take a few more wounding hits before hitting the dirt.

What this does do is free you up from tracking wounds or marking damage on the cards, which can get messy.

We know it's an unusual stance to take in a game, but why do all games have to use the same/similar mechanics?

Huh, well I guess I'll have to try it to see. I loved WWX due to the western theme and altetnate american history story. Loved all ten factions and the historical characters remade into alternate universe characters.

I really liked how wwx played, it was similar to other systems yet unique. I loved how damage was tracked (usually used small dice to count damage on cards... wasn't hard or messy). It reminded me of cbt or alpha strike. Seems like a lot of what made wwx the game it was is going away, and it will be more or less similar to infinity or swa with single wounds.

A bit dissapointing that factions are combining (like the confererates and Mexicans are just becoming outlaws). These factions being seperate helped wwx with its historical yet futuristic appeal. The crown and celestials... seems like the wwx western cowboy theme is going away. It's becoming a global steam punk game instead of a futuristic western game.

Just some initial observations/opinions based on limited information, but interested to see and hear more. I've bought everything made for wwx so far, so it will be interesting to see where the game goes.

Honestly have to say I love everything about that announcement.

Clearly, without a doubt, WarCradle getting their hands on this property has been the best thing that could possibly have happened.

For a game and a setting that I once loved, spoiled and destroyed by a bitter relationship to a degree that I never imagined myself caring again... I'm excited. This legitimately seems very cool.

Thank you guys for posting this here, where at least I can see it.

The icing on the cake would be seeing this game get more widely into distribution.

Hopefully with the 2nd edition we see that come to fruition.

Big fan of the background, especially after finding out my great great grandfather (a self styled Southern gentleman) was on pretty good terms with those James and Younger boys.

I would say, moving the Golden Army and the Confederates into Outlaws doesn't really change much other than the badge that appears at the top of their card.

They still can be run as pure forces if that's what you love, it just represents them not being large enough forces to stand alone unlike some of the other factions.

Playtested all afternoon, and I will say that if faces and bosses dying too easily is a worry for you, currently they feel almost too tanky, even with only one wound.

I'm in the same boat as you, I loved the gameplay and the setting. I just rarely ever got a chance to play because of the smal playerbase. Hopefully the changes aren't too drastic. I really won't know until I see the new rules.

Yeah, really not sure how I feel about this complete rule overhaul.... was it really necessary? I thought 2E was just going to be improving a few things here and there, addressing balance problems and such... not totally changing the way the game plays.

I also have had some concerns about the announced changes, but the more I see and hear the more open I am to it. I fully plan on having a go with the Beta Rules once they start the open testing, and giving Warcradle every chance to win me over with the new edition.

Overhaul was 100% necessary. The original game was fun and all, but it was horrifically balanced and overly complex in its stats for individual models.

I respect you too much to argue with you Pug. At least you were never part of the "Everything is Rainbows and Candy" crowd.

Here's to being able to play the game and not being afraid of saying the wrong thing and getting ostracized for it.

I've switched to a new account for further discussion regarding Warcradle and WWX to clearly define my thoughts as a staff member working on WWX vs me as a painter/gamer usually.

In terms of the changes to the game, there will always be those who loved the first edition and are concerned that we are doing lot of work to change up the game, and we do understand those concerns.

As I have said to multiple people now, I've been gaming well over 24 years now and have lived through edition and game changes since 2nd ed 40K/4th ed fantasy. Some have been great (Warmachine) some have horrified me (Confrontation) and some have felt terrible at the time, but have ended up becoming one of my most played games (AoS).

The design intent with the new edition of WWX is to make the game feel much the same as the first edition, but make it faster and easier to play, more balanced and dynamic and to make it as accessible to as many people as possible.

Ultimately, a complex gritty game that is only played by a few folks is sadly not a viable long term product.

Of course, no one is going to come to your house and steal/burn all your first edition books and cards, so if you truly hate what we have come up with (and we hope you will give it a try and find that while it may appear very different, at its core its still a hero lead small scale skirmish game set in an alternate vision of the old west), then you can continue to play first edition.

I play 2nd edition Epic when I want to play 6mm, and there is a fantastic community that has taken the game on and tweaked it to suit their needs, improving the classic game. No doubt there will be some of you who chose to do the same with WWX, and more power to you.

Still, I think second edition is shaping up to be an interesting beast of a game, with some usual mechanics that will hopefully help us stand out in the huge wealth of games that we all get to play with, living in the golden age of gaming that we do.

The public beta starts next month (unless something terrible happens!) so you will be able to download and read all the rules and stat cards (nothing is getting squatted!) and help us polish the final stages of development and get the game ready for launch towards the end of the year.

New folks seem to like what we have come up with so far, and many of the old guard have started to get into the feel of the game, after the initial shock of the new, so as long as you have an open mind and a willingness to give honest and constructive feedback (not necessarily positive!) then I think we can make this the game that the WWX model range always deserved.

Plus of course there are plenty of rather exciting minis coming very soon indeed.

Eh, since I never actually played the game, I am looking forward what a 2nd edition will bring. If it makes the whole thing easier to get into: excellent, that might get me playing at last.

Please do not get me wrong here: I loved WWX from the very first moment, and I still do. It simply is that I am much more into collecting, terrain and artwork than rules and gaming. And I feel like I'm getting too old for complex rulesets. I despise the changes AoS has brought to the background, miniatures and general approach to the game that once was Warhammer - but the idea that you only need a few pages of rules and can kick off is one totally appealing to me.

Having said that: bring it on! Some fanboy questions though...

Why redo the Wayward Eight? They are great the way they are, the models are plastic - what do I miss here? Will the "replacement" be plastic too? Will they get their "not-Shepherd Book"? Will they get a "not-Serenity" vehicle?

Will there be new terrain? As you might know: MAS has completed a second wave of WWX terrain months ago, sold the plans - to what was then still the old owner of WWX - and I wonder what has become of it. Will you guys work together with MAS? Also: nu terran please, kthxbye!

    Cheers for the comment Darnok.

I think if you like the world of WWX, that sure isn't changing too much. Now, there story is evolving for sure, and what I told people at Salute is that the 1st ed story is told from one perspective, most of what has gone before remains the same, but a few things are being showcased from a slightly different perspective. Its a bit like when someone tells a story, they embellish it and adapt it to their perspective, so the same story can feel totally different each time it is told. So, fluff/world remains much the same, game evolves slightly, but still has the same core feel and intent.

A few things may feel slightly different (e.g. the dark council is evolving slightly in term of its reach, as 1st ed felt a little like everyone was secretly working for the dark council, sometimes without knowing it), but the overall feel of the factions and their intent is much the same. Stu is heading up the project and has done a huge amount of research and writing, which I get to pick up about 15% of in our regular meetings and calls. So, there is a lot I still don't know, but what I heard I like, and it helped me finalise my decision to collect the Order, based pretty much on fluff and aesthetic alone.

In terms of my role, I'm doing games design, with a side order of events and community work based on my previous role as "guy who created and ran SmogCon", though it is an evolving role... so I am not the fluff guru, nor in charge of product design and direction. As such, I can't really comment on the upcoming products, other than to say there is a very good reason the Wayward Eight get a resculpt and if you saw the concept art that was on the walls of the Salute booth you can see how cool they look!

More scenery can only be a good thing of course, I have heard very early rumblings of things on the horizon, but its too early for me to say any more (sorry :( )

I'm surprised that more photos didn't make their way on to the net, the stand was full of spoilers and teases in both miniature and art form if you kept your eyes open.

The two links below show the art for one of the new forces making their way to the old west at present (possibly in a giant submersible of some kind) and you can also see some of the concept art for the new Wayward Eight in the background of the other (along with my hand, and some of the minis I speed painted for the demo tables...)

Each activation, you flip a single activation card that has a value of between 1-4. This shows how many action points can be spent that activation.

You then pick a unit to activate (a unit can be one face, or a mob of hands for example).

The unit can take as many actions as it can afford to buy, up to its limit stat. There are a range of actions, such as move, shoot, strike, take cover and so forth.

An action costs 1 action point the first time you use it, and 2 or more thereafter (per activation of course).

    Examples -

a unit of hands usually has a limit of 2 actions, it could move for one action, then shoot for a second action. Total = 2 action points. As such it would need to have flipped a 2 or more on its action deck card.
a unit of hands usually has a limit of 2 actions, it could move for one action, then move again for a second action point. Total = 3 action points. As such it would need to have flipped a 3 or more on its action deck card.

If you want to do more than you can afford, there is a mechanic to possibly allow it, but that's still top secret

Players alternate activating one unit at a time, though again, there is a way of doubling up and activating two units in some instances, though much like with the ability to do more than the card you flip, it comes at a price.

I can only talk about things we showcased at Salute at the moment, so there might be some specifics and mechanics not yet public, so feel free to ask anything, but be aware I may have to say no comment to some things.

Thank you brother! I hope you at least remember me well enough to know my comments about the overhaul and things aren't spoken with an aggressive tone. Everyone always takes the things I say so angrily and it is really just the unfortunate truth that I am perhaps too direct, so people assume I'm trying to fight. But hey I'm so blocked from Dark Council facebook group that I'm not even allowed to see it! (and ironically I created the group myself...) Any help on that WarCradle? Can I at least be able to *look* at the new stuff?

This actually sounds incredible! Love the idea of an element of randomness, especially from a card deck, coming into play and forcing players to think on the fly. I would assume the system of back-and-forth unit activation goes until both sides have activated all units and then it is a new turn? What happens if one side is outnumbered? Is the amount of things you can activate limited, or will a player *always* be able to activate all of their models in a turn?

Keeping both players actively invested during the turn was one of the core concepts. You even get to roll dice during your opponents turn (if they hit you with something nasty).

As for the faces, it basically works like this:

Boss - in charge of a posse. The best weapons, most fortune and the ability to avoid death (at the cost of some poor unfortunate underling standing nearby).
Faces - the named (usually) men and women closest and most trusted to the boss. They are "faces" as they are the named faces of the posse. They usually have cool weapons and abilities and some fortune...
Hands - the nameless deputies and fighters dragged in to service (or paid to be there). They are fairly basic but provide bulk to your force.
Support - the big guns. (Note, light support has tended to become hand units in the new edition)

With regard to the A Team, if they were a WWX posse, Hannibal would be the boss, Face (appropriately), Murdock and BA would be faces, and the folks they help out each week would be hands. I guess the van is support

Yup, a sprinkle of randomness to keep things fresh and keep players on their toes (rather than carrying out the motions of a Rube Goldberg machine), but with a mechanic to allow control to be bought back at an opportunity cost was again something on the plans pretty much from the start. Currently, if one player runs out of activations, the other player continues to activate the remainder of their army, though this may change through playtest. Note, you draw your action card before deciding who to activate. This keeps things interesting as you might want to take a Boss action and do something cool, but flip a 1. Rather than be locked into the now weakened boss activation, you can instead either chose to do a lesser activation with something more disposable, or spend the second resource to add to your action limit.

Other key concepts, shooting, fighting, saving and so forth all use a D10 system, with a target number of 10 (so its easy to remember, I'm getting to old to have too many numbers flying around). Checks are made by rolling a D10, adding the relevant stat then adding or subtracting any applicable modifiers. We want people focussed on the game and engaged, not flipping through a rule book or looking at charts.

The big one... everything has one wound! But there are ways of avoiding death for faces and bosses. Currently it takes roughly 2-4 wounding hits to drop a boss, slightly less for a face. This roughly lines up with first edition. Its a bold change, that often catches people when they first hear it, but again, it makes the game flow nice and fast, and is easy to remember, without being unbalancing.

I do have to say that I like the larger art on the new cards. The new cards have a western deck of cards saloon look to them - awesome. I wish I could have been at salute or adeptacon to know how to read and underatand the cards.

Wayward eight being redone? Awesome. I'll get any minis, games, etc that has a firefly feel or parody to it. Can't wait to see the sculpts!!

Will we ever see the Peterson model sculpt from the last kickstarter that was never used (him standing with both swords aheathed)? I loved that model sculpt and was sad to see it never released.

Outlaw did not release them; not sure to what stage in development they reached before Warcradle took over. Warcradle has said the Seven will be part of a new 2-player boxed set released with second edition (I am guessing that will be in HIPS plastic). They had the 3D prints for them at Salute but it doesn't seem anyone took and posted any good photos online (yet).

So, they've released details on how to get your 'free' 2E softcover - dem's a lot of hoops to jump through, especially as I don't have a FLGS!

Sounds as if I'll want the full hardcover book anyway, but that 'free' softcover would've been nice too!

youre reading-fu is weak alpharius... somewhere in there they say they'll ship it directly to your house.

While I'll probably buy the big hardback book anyway (assuming I like the new rule system during Beta testing), it would be nice to get the free softcover version, too. I'm kind of hoping they clarify exactly how the required photo of us with our 1st edition rulebook can be shared via social media. I'm not keen on posting it on my FB page, but don't mind sharing it in a PM or on one of the WWX pages.

Just watched the remake of the magnificent seven... that deadly seven mini is awesome (not sure if its parody based or not).

Warcradle, any more deadly seven spoilers? I thought outlaw minis had resin masters cut for them, but there are no pics anywhere!!! The mini shown above looks awesome.

From the WWX Blog (you have to fill out a form on the blog as part of this http://blog.wildwestexodus.com/secondedition ):

    Free Second edition rulebook

So, you want to know how to get a copy of the Second Edition rules for free? Great!

First off, you will need a copy of the First Edition rules. Already own the Wild West Exodus First Edition rulebook? Any First Edition rulebook counts, including a copy from the Two Player Starter Set! Great, carry on. No? Not a problem, you can pick one up for just £10 at your FLGS stockist or online here.

Ok, so you have your First Edition book, how do you get the Second Edition rules and what will you be getting?

What you get - The current plan is for us to send a beautiful A4 colour softback rulebook (over 100 pages) to your local FLGS for you to collect. It will contain all of the rules for Second Edition, along with some background and hundreds of photos/artwork.

Want more? - We will also be releasing a deluxe (400+ pages) hardback rulebook for people to buy, more information on this product coming soon.

Before you fill out the form below please do the following steps:

    1) Share a photo of yourself with the 1st edition rulebook (at least one, but more is great)
    2) Tag us into the photo with @wildwestexodus and use the hashtag #wwxrules
    3) Tag in your local gaming store where you would like to collect your book from (if you have one). No FLGS? No problem, we will send it directly to you.
    4) Fill in the form below with links to your social accounts where you have posted your images.

Recieved my Captain Nimue model today (thanks to an awesome fellow dakka member - thanks!!). I have to say it is awesome, full of detail, and the quality seems higher than most plastics out there. Very happy with my first warcradle plastic, it is as good if not better than the outlaw plastics (which were/are awesome as top quality too).

Kudos warcradle; the cards, resins, and plastics you have designed and released so far have exceeded all expectation. Keep up the awesome work!

While I haven't been able to play or read the new rules yet, I am guessing the mechanic represents a flow of bodies moving in close proximity and the ability of the leader amongst them to make best use of mobile cover. I can kind of see that making sense from a group in motion with members weaving in an out around one another. Quite curious to see the complete rules on paper when the Open Beta Testing begins.

Pretty much that, yes. It's gone through a few iterations but in its current state, you can spend a fortune chip to change the target model to another within 3"

It's more the second model dives in the way, thematically. Rather than thinking of bullets bending paths.

I would advise sooner rather than later. Plan is for books to be available once we launch the game in September, but I would get in before that so we have you on the list. I will find out specifics from the mothership ASAP.

Remember everyone, open beta starts on the 15th. All preview rules and cards will be available online, and we want your help spotting and ironing out those last few kinks in the language (know what its supposed to say, we want to make sure it reads that way )

Just back from two days in the studio meeting many of the creative team behind the game (Brandon is my new hero!)

Looking at these designs, I am increasingly hopeful that:

    1) We will get a YoSafBridge model (or maybe there is a not-model in existence already)
    2) The Dark Nation will ramp up the gribbly factor, going for horror or just plain gross. Right now, most of them look too much like they are still part of the Warrior Nation.

    No worries sir.

Go, download and break our precious

Seriously though, we are looking for any and all feedback on any typos, rules inconsistency or anything that doesn't read as clearly as it might.

For veterans of first edition, this may all seem a little alien at first, but dig beneath the surface and you will find the same core concepts you know and love in there, just given a fresh coat of paint.

Looking forward to hearing back from folks as they playtest.

Afraid not. The classic template was considered a little too unwieldy for the updated, faster paced nature of second edition.

There are two templates now, blast and torrent.

I'm trying to get the exact sizes, but there is a file to DL on the site already (which my enterprising mate is already running through a laser cutter...)

Blast is a circle, torrent is a tear drop

So the cards per faction are available in PDF documents (all cards per faction in one document), so it was either added after I looked or I'm bad at looking.

    I'm going with the latter.

Yup, it was changed after you looked. I have seen them as separate cards and as a faction pdf (much nicer in the large pdf). I saw the hex as single character pdf's and now that faction seems down at the moment (probably being updated to one large pdf).

Are mercs ousted, or are they part of the outlaw faction we haven't seen yet? I see some of the merc minis are in the store under the outlaw faction now. I figured they'd have their own faction as not all mercs are 'bad'.

Rules look interesting, time to start printing cards and playtesting

im enjoying everything ive seen so far especially the art.

i will admit though that i've only given the book a cursory glance.

THIS ISN'T EVEN MY FINAL FORM...

    Ahem...

But seriously, don't expect the final rule book to look like this/have this ordering. There'll be a more logical ordering, and there will be a lot of examples and demo images to help guide people through it (as well as a full card breakdown and weapon stat line stuff).

The super special edition will be even better, currently being billed at around 400 pages, with fluff, rules and painting for everything currently in the game (if all goes to plan).

The stripped down version in the starter set will still be comprehensive rules wise, but some things will have to drop if only to get it in the box

Love the art, card design is great, rules seem very streamlined. The action card deck was wjat i most disliked, however it makes sense and works well with the characters limits. Only a couple small things seem missing. However, I still like most of what I see and will reserve all judgement, positive comments, and critiques until I get a few games in.

Glad the outlaw faction cards were posted. Can't wait to see the rest of the missing characters. The combination of factions makes them my #1 go to faction, followed by lawmen.

I hope we see a full range card set for sale soon. Love that the minis can be used to play 1st or 2nd edition, as they are different enough to make the games unique.

Wise words, play some games, try things and and see.

Secret behind the scenes stuff, I wasn't convinced by the action cards at first, and went back and forth with Stu on it. However, once we got the Adventure deck working alongside it, it really clicked with me. Now we have a way of playing that is very fast and loose, with players trusting to the fates to see what the card flips bring (the gambling man method), but more cautious players who like control (like me!) can mitigate luck by spending their adventure cards wisely. Of course, this comes at a cost, as it means you won't be scoring as many minor scenario points.

This very much became the core of the game, the idea of everything being controllable to an extent, but always at a cost (be it fortune, adventure, action or in raw bodies).

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts once you have thrashed out a few games.

Look at her face, too. She doesn't look altogether human. I'd assume she's showing a partial beast-form type of thing.

Assuming that's the case, she looks rad. The whole crew does!

Marcus's pose is a huge improvement IMO and I love Jake's hat addition. Hick's facial expression is also great!

Really not a fan of Zarelda Kincade/Zoe's weird lady bodybuilder cheesecake look. She was the most no-nonsense character on the show and the look just doesnt fit. As noted, River's feet look kind of monkey-ish too.

I'd like to see a Shepherd Book too. He always gets the short end of the stick on homage figures.

Some here... mostly. I do like the new Mal, Simon and Jayne sculpts. The rest... not so much. Zoe looks weird, as does Wash. Inara and Kaylee look pretty generic. And what the <bleep> is River meant to represent? That is not "beastly", it's just fugly: the face... THE FEET!

I'll get them anyway, don't get me wrong. I'm a huge fan of "Firefly", and have a big WWX collection. The prospect of a not-Book also has me all excited. The Mk.II crew is kind of a let-down though.

    Excellent news, if true.

But fear for the puns with numbers: "The Wayward Eight fighting the Deadly Seven - watch your six! High fives to the winner. Four your next game, just make it a three-way with the newest sinister Union agents: two by two, their hats are blue! Now once more with feeling!"

if i was looking to expand on some of the maxmini WWX houses are there any out there that match the scale and aesthetics of the maxmini ones?
i know wild west is kind of generic so when i say match i mean in the way that they're made and look.
sometimes two different manufacturers of the same thing can look apples and oranges if that makes sense.

I think you mean the stuff from Micro Art Studio, right? (http://shop.microartstudio.com/wwx-western-hotel-p-1007.html)

Lathan over at Burned In Designs has some stuff that looks good alongside the "official" ones, and TT Combat also has some nice western MDF terrain that sizes up well alongside the rest. The pieces from 4Ground are too small, I know, but they're pretty nice quality-wise.

It is indeed first hand knowledge, sir. The doorways and windows skew a little large, actually, if you're trying to consider accurate scale, but it's actually for the benefit of gameplay so that models on bases can fit through doorways or draw line of sight through windows.

The stuff I have is actually the first run of the Rock Ridge line, so it looks like Lathan has actually improved them; I definitely recommend it.

So after a few games with different factions I will post my opinion and overview of 2nd edition vs 1st edition.

    1st edition positives:
Alternative history fluff with historical characters we know and love!!
    wild west timeline and theme
    decent but lengthy gameplay
    great minis
    awesome dice and card system

    1st edition negatives:
balance (and constant updating of cards)
loss of physical cards (but they are back!)
game length for a skirmish game
    some unnecessary rules
6' x 4' game table requirement for most games

My biggest criticism is that 1st edition wasn't sure if it was a war-game, skirmish game, or something in between. Players had to make rules at times regarding uses of vehicles or legendary characters due to balance in small games vs large games.

    2nd edition positives:
    balance!
    fast, simple, and tactical gameplay
majority of the same game we know and love
    same great minis!
cards and dice system like we had before
    ease of rules
3' x 3' area needed (makes transporting a mat and terrain much easier)
evolving from a wild west game into a global themed game in the wild west timeline

    2nd edition negatives:
losing some of the 'alternative history' theme (name changes to major/important characters)

Overall, 2nd edition is awesome! It's almost as if WWX figured out what kind of game it should be. You can now build several lists and play several games during a single game night. The smaller gameplay area is great too, and helps lead to the shorter games, easier setups and quicker cleanup. I was not a fan of the action deck, but it really plays well and makes you think before activating just any character.

I think it's great that the game is becoming world-based instead of us-based. I just hope the 'alternate history' theme continues (really its just adding period names from historical characters... maybe with similar traits but that's about it). I can think of several famous historical European, Russian, Asian, and central American persons whose names would be great to add to our alternative history game in the 19th century. Cowboys (outlaws, lawmen, etc) vs ninjas? Sovereign Nations vs the royal army? European inventors vs the union? Golden Army vs aliens? The game has endless limits now that the fluff is evolving. Battles can be wages worldwide based on the RJ inventions (large rj powered boats for continental travel?)

My only criticism is the renaming of certain important historical characters in wwx (general Grant, George Custer, Sitting Bull... well the renaming of pretty much all of the historical Indian characters). All historical lawmen and outlaws appear to remain history based (well, alternate history anyway!). In my opinion the historical characters help make the game what it is, along with the western time period theme (name of the game after all). Remember, George Custer isn't the Custer of our past, he is the present time Custer in an alternate world filled with destructive RJ... it means he didn't do the same things he did in our world anyway.

Love the game (both 1st and 2nd edition), how involved warcradle is with the community, and how the storyline is evolving. The community has exploded again with involvement, positivity, and excitement, which has been great! I will definitely keep all my 1st edition cards though, so I can get a game in occasionally for old times sake, but look forward to the release of 2nd edition with final production cards so I can play the hell out of them!! I was a fan before and will still purchase everything warcradle makes for this great game! I recommend the game, and joining the wwx community (much friendlier than most other game communities).

That's my two cents anyway, take it for what it's worth

Next week we are at the UK Games Expo in Birmingham, come see us for some more insights and a chance to get some hands on time with the second edition.

Okay, my thoughts on the second edition Beta rules (version 2.1) Sorry for the wordiness.

Overall, I really like a lot of what WarCradle is doing with WWX.

    • I like the game engine with the two card decks. On the surface it seems simple and possibly restricting, but the options available with the Adventure Cards forces players to weigh their choices at all times.

    • They have continued to build and encourage the community for the game, taking time every day to interact with us. I definitely sense that they will be strong in promoting and distributing the game, which in my mind were the biggest flaws with it previously.

    • I was at first taken aback by the shift in fluff as well as the army-building system, but have come to accept them both. The army-building I have actually grown to like, and it should prove to be quite flexible in the end (and should also be easily expandable given its structure).

    • The models continue to look brilliant, with plans for more hard plastic kits already in process. Several new and interesting characters have also been created/shown/teased.

    • All art, graphics, and print materials thus far have been great quality, and I expect the final products to be very nice indeed once published. The Beta rules look better than the actual rulebook for some games.

The second edition rules thus far seem generally more streamlined, which I like. I am a very busy person with limited hobby/game time, so cleaner and simpler works well for me. But there is one aspect about the rules that I feel needs further streamlining: The Weapon Qualities and Unit Special Rules.

Depending on what units populate your army, between the Weapon Qualities and Unit Special Rules there’s a lot of detailed things to remember during play unless one doesn’t mind referring to the rulebook on a regular basis (which Warcradle says they don’t want players to have to do…and I definitely do not want to do). None of the 26 "weapon qualities" are described on the unit profile cards and so must be remembered or referenced during play; they average 38 words in length and a few have other rules built within them. The "unit special rules" are numerous but at least they are shown on the profile cards; however nearly 20% of them give the unit one or more other special rules which are not on the cards (and again require memorization or looking it up during play). One of them even has four other special rules referenced within it, while several others reference three other rules each. Additionally, I feel that the number of overall weapon qualities and unit special rules make it unlikely that all possible combinations or interactions have been (or will be) thoroughly tested before the announced publication date. If this proves to be true, issues surely will arise resulting in numerous errata/FAQ/rules updates, etc. which was a big criticism many had of the first edition. I wonder if some of these special rules couldn’t just be removed as they are so situational or finicky. It will be interesting to see how they change during the remainder of the beta testing.

I also have a minor gripe about certain infantry models seemingly needing rebasing but I’m hoping those are just errors on the beta cards.

For me the issues with the special rules, if they remain as they are, are enough to push this game way down on my list of games to play. Of course, this is just my opinion…others may find these things to be no issue at all for them and think me a silly old fool, lol. I highly recommend anyone even remotely interested give the beta rules a try and come to your own conclusions. There is a lot to like with the new WWX.

After a very hectic but enjoyable weekend at the UK Games Expo, I thought it would be worth doing a little catch up for you fans here at Dakka Dakka.

First up, during the Friday Press session, Craig and I got a chance to talk about the game to several podcasts and youtube types. We gave a few hints about the ongoing vision of the game.

Thanks to Black Jack Legacy and Sprues and Brews for their coverage.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8wDB6PAovM
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQnCSJjMHQc

We also had the revised booth, taking our Salute stand and increasing the size and scope of what we can do with it. This will continue to evolve, with GenCon being our next big target. One thing we are really keen to increase is the studio model cabinets, as we want to make sure the whole range is covered, giving people a good visual guide to the factions and showing off the figures we produce, which was one of the most commented on things by visitors to the stand.

We also managed to sneak a few more hints of what is coming in the near future onto the stand, with some new artwork dotted about for the eagle eyed, and 3D prints of several upcoming models that hadn't been seen before, including the new Legendary Marie Leveau (in all her revealed glory) and the HexBeasts, which most people will likely want to grab a few of, once they read the rules for Hex in game...

I've nabbed this photo from GMorts blog (who has a great review of the whole show if you missed it here: http://gmortschaotica.blogspot.co.uk/2017/06/uk-games-expo-2017-overview.html" target="_new" rel="nofollow"> http://gmortschaotica.blogspot.co.uk/2017/06/uk-games-expo-2017-overview.html

We also recently put the render of the new Marie up, and I will see if I can sneak some more shots of the Hex Beasts out from under the watchful eyes of security in the future.

The beta is coming along nicely, we ran a huge amount of demos over the weekend, and were rewriting rules over breakfast as we tweak and refine for release. Close combat should get a little easier and characters might be tweaked down in armour to make the game even more deadly and fun.

Hopefully you folks are continuing to playtest and give us your feedback, so that we can put out the best possible version of WWX in September.

Announcing our new miniatures for release August 2017!

We are very excited to announce that August 26th will see the release of a new resculpt of the resin miniature, Legendary Ghost Wolf. We are also releasing the resin miniature version of Ghost Wolf for the first time separately outside of the Two Player Mini Starter Box.

    GHOST WOLF

“The Great Spirit has given our enemies to us. We are to destroy them. We know of what they are.”

These words are attributed to one of the greatest heroes of the Warrior Nation and perhaps suggest a more aggressive approach to the world than he truly represents. In his life, Ghost Wolf has been known by many names, in the manner of his people, but the sobriquet by which he now goes most accurately describes him. His quiet, acts of selfless bravery down the years have earned him a reputation as a man who cares more for the needs of others than he does for those of his own. He is deeply loved and admired by those who are close to him, idolised by those who are near and treated with a respectful caution by any further afield.

A placid and gentle soul in peacetime, Ghost Wolf is insightful and wise, fond of storytelling and enjoying the company of his extensive family. But when he is roused to anger – and it is not easy to bring him to such a state – the beast within is unleashed. When Ghost Wolf calls upon the Great Spirit’s strength and makes the connection with his spirit guide, the wolf can no longer be contained, ripping and tearing its way to the fore.

Contains one resin miniature and one base.

Pre-Order Ghost Wolf now Online or at your local stockist for £13.00.

    LEGENDARY GHOST WOLF

Ghost Wolf’s prowess in times of war is nothing short of mythological. When he transforms, he metamorphoses into something beyond terrifying. The bestial form, wreathed in blue spirit fire is a sight that reduces his enemies to quivering heaps of jelly and which galvanises his own people to acts of greatness. He has led the Warrior Nation in skirmishes against the settlers whose intrusion into their native lands has resulted in so much destruction. Always, the goal is the same. To protect the very ground and air which they all share.

His anger and sorrow at being unable to aid his daughter, Walks Looking, as she fights her own private battles is a personal tragedy for him, but he will not turn his back on her. Their relationship is a complex one, more formal than perhaps it once was.

In more recent times, Ghost Wolf has been instrumental in making headway into opening diplomatic channels between the Warrior Nation and the other people of the west. He holds great respect for the Lawmen, particularly Bass Reeves with whom he has frequent discourse. For his part, Bass Reeves believes that Ghost Wolf’s advice, often tempered with rationality and clarity of thinking, is the best he has ever, or will ever receive.

Contains one resin miniature, with two weapons choices, and one scenic base.

Pre-Order Legendary Ghost Wolf now Online or at your local stockist for £20.00.

We are using the very best in technology and materials to bring these miniatures to you. We will keep you up-to-date on this exciting new development.

Posse sets will give you all the miniatures you need to get your favourite faction onto the tabletop. For those hobbyists who already have a bunch of miniatures that you want to get playing with, the rulebook and the additional components are available in a box on their own called the Rules & Gubbins Set.

Wild West Exodus is also bringing out new Introductory Sets. These include everything in the Rules and Gubbins box as well as two taster posses. 2nd edition physical product will ship with the new cards, and decks will be released in November.

I do gotta say seeing the conquistadors in the warrior nation left me scratching my head. They, uhh.. didnt exactly have a good relationship with the indigenous folks lol. But since I'm all in on WN, looks like I'll be grabbing a few more Spaniards!

The Spaniards are still part of the outlaws too. Im assuming the thought is the warrior nation is now central american, north american, worldwide indians. The conquistadors moved into central america, so now they work together.

Warcradle, any news on restocks? I initially had waited to purchase minis until they were released (don't like spending money a month ahead of a release for a general releas item). I see almost everything sells out before release. Due to that I am learning and changing my purchasing habits, preordering more.

I see many newer minis are in a state of being recasted/restocked for weeks... or even longer. I know a person who preordered ghost wolf and never got him yet (preorders were in august, release september, it's now october). The friend who preordered didnt get the mini yet and the mini is listed as being out of stock/recasted. Same thing with legendary leveau. So even preorders are not being fulfilled due to stock issues or slow restocking.

I see all the 2nd edition starters sold out before release. Will this be a trend? I hope restocking is faster with days or one to two week turnarounds like outlaw minis had. Sucks waiting weeks or more to get more awesome wwx goodies!!

Warcradle, thanks for the fast reply! I had hoped my post came out right, with the right tone (was just curious, love what you guys do and will buy everything wwx you make).

That's what I thought, it seems wwx is selling faster than it ever had! (which means great things for the community, game, growth, etc) I know minis are being released each month, and I'm sure it's hard to keep up production with past, present, and future models with increased worldwide demand - not to mention the big release of 2nd edition. Really looking forward to the wayward eight, seven models, and 2nd edition card packs!

Ive been a fan since the beginning of wwx, and am happy to see where the game is going. Keep up the good work

Really liked the video. The board was great, great choice of a gaming mat and mix of terrain.

They look like they're the same, comparing them to mine. Weird they split them up into two boxes of five. It unfortunately makes them more expensive vs the standard 5 close combat/5 ranged.

Warcradle Studios - News - April Releases: The Khodynka and Ergun Show Unwavering Resolve pg35 @ 2017/10/10 20:30:22

    Post by: 455_PWR

They look the same; I'm assuming they are the same hired hands sculpts with new 2nd edition packages and cards. The split is nice if you are building a small force and don't need both long range and cc hands. Some of the minis in the starters were changed though (Jackson stepping on a crate, carpathian stepping on an rj canister, the brutes, walks looking, etc).

On another note, just finished the bow 2nd edition videos. Love where the story is going and the fact that it is still alternate history with characters we love. The civil war is over, union rule, lawmen enforce, outlaws... outlaw. Its great that each factoon has their own unique purpose, and its not just killing eachother like many other wargames. Really like how the watchers, hex, and order fit in! Kudos to warcradle, hell of a job guys!

I hope we see books in the next year or two The first edition books were great, but it would be great to see our characters (including new characters like leveau) immersed and explained in this new edition!

Wayward 8, deadly 7, grant, jackson, earps, james... too much awesome in one game lol. If only there was a subscription service to get one of everything newly made at your door every month

Regarding the action/adventure cards, we have not got a release date for this item (on its own) at present but keep checking our pre-order announcements for updates

When it comes to your force creation question, every Boss has a theme posse and also has access to the faction posse. There will be cards going online this week which will give you more posse options but for now you can assume that any Enlightened Boss can take the Enlightened Faction Posse.

The models in the kits are the same or very similar with only small tweaks, so if you have figures from the 1st edition of the game they are still usable. However, in the new sets, we have broken them down into groups of five due to the adjustment in hand unit sizes and point costs. This way you don't have to buy a box of 10 hands and find half of them going unused because you cannot afford them in points or because they are not the unit type you wanted, so you will find these new sets more cost efficient as well as easier to tailor to your force.

Within the Covenant of the Enlightened are many whose ideas and theories have been ridiculed and dismissed by the world’s formal agencies of scientific endeavour. Their ranks are filled with eccentric misfits whose research into the esoteric stretches the realms of credibility. Most find acceptance and even vindication amongst their fellow outcasts but there are some who test even the open minds of the ladies and lords of the Enlightened.⠀

It's time for the Soul Hunters.⠀

Medicine that could have saved countless lives now drags the helpless dead back into the land of the living. Mindless automatons moving solely in the direction of these crazed geniuses. Men so convinced of the purity of their own motives and ideals that nothing can be allowed to question them. Once heralded as the saviours of mankind, they now stand to provide the tools and weapons set on destroying all living things on earth.

With the clandestine assistance of renegade scientists, these men will stop at nothing to be the strongest, fastest, most frightening specters in the Wild West. From bio-mechanical implants to stolen experimental weaponry, only death may stop their headlong quest for fame and wealth. Powerful weapons and a reckless way of life have made the Outlaws a force to be reckoned with.

    PLAINS WARRIORS AND STALKERS

The proud descendants of the men who were once the lords and masters of the entire continent, now fight to regain power. These Native American warriors have thrown off the noose of enforced servitude to the United States. Joining their tribes together they form an alliance of unparalleled strength that taps into ancient spiritual power. No longer does the Warrior Nation allow others to take from them the land of their ancestors. Confronting the twisted science of tomorrow with the purity of the Earth, the Warrior Nation has taken up the mantle of protector of the land, and will stop at nothing to eradicate this new threat.

    VETERAN RANGERS AND RANGER MINUTEMEN

The law was an elusive animal in the Old West, and today's sheriff could easily prove to be tomorrow's highwayman at the least provocation or opportunity. Many of the most famous, or infamous, Lawmen to establish themselves throughout the western territories were in fact merely the most successful outlaws, history, as is so often the case, having been written by the victors. But after the brutal culmination of the Civil War in the east, the western territories began to experience an age of such violence and upheaval that there was almost no hope for ordinary men and women to survive, let alone prosper. Those who rose up to defend them were the Lawmen.

    This contains:
    5x Veteran Ranger Miniatures
    5x Ranger Minutemen Miniatures
    10x Bases

Pre-Order Veteran Rangers and Ranger Minutemen now Online or at your local stockist for £20.00

    SPICA COHORT

The Order are an ancient organisation that pre-dates human civilisation. They wage a war against both their ancient adversaries, the Watchers and the spreading corruption of the Dark Council.

They crusade tirelessly to keep humanity free from outside domination and influence. A key strategy in their mission is to seek out and destroy RJ-based technology as it is both an aspect of the Dark Council's corrupting influence and draws the hated Watchers to Earth.

The Order do not seem to care about the wretched parts of humanity that are caught in the crossfire as they purge the Earth. There are some who wonder whether the destiny of humanity under the control of the Order is any better than falling to the taint of the Dark Council or succumbing to the claws and energy beams of the Watchers.

    This contains:
    10x Spica Cohort Miniatures
    10x Bases

Pre-Order Spica Cohort now Online or at your local stockist for £20.00

GREY PULSE MYRIAD AND DRAIN MYRIAD

As the portals once again open on earth, mankind has no idea what is coming. The destructive power of the Watchers will completely strip the land of all living things. The Watchers use their Alpha leaders to guide and advance their many species of aliens. Each and every member of the Watchers knows his role in their society and follow orders without question. As their enemies attempt to stop the Watchers, the Betas drain the life energy from their bodies and transport it to their Alpha leader. This transforms the Alpha during the course of any battle into an enemy that knows every move you will make before you even make it. With inhuman weapons and a thirst for human blood, they plan to wipe mankind off the planet once and for all.

    This Box Set contains:
    4x Pulse Myriad Miniatures
    6x Drain Myriad Miniatures
    10x Bases

Pre-Order Grey Pulse Myriad and Drain Myriad now Online or at your local stockist for £20.00

    CABALLEROS AND CAZADORES

The once famous explorer Ponce de Leon and his conquistadors were subjected to a mix of Watcher blood and tropical jungle water. What they call the fountain of youth has now kept them alive for hundreds of years endlessly searching for the source. Their influence over the Mexican people and robust army has pushed them to the door step of the country's boarder. The men of the Golden Army know of only one thing. Fight until dead or until the enemy is destroyed. This horde faction sends endless supply of men to battle. They are led and protected by the destructive weapons of the conquistadors directing them from the rear. They will soon push across the border ready to destroy any army that stands in their way.

    This Box Set contains:

    5x Caballeros Miniatures
    5x Cazadores Miniatures
    10x Bases
Pre-Order Caballeros and Cazadores now Online or at your local stockist for £20.00

    REAVER HEADHUNTERS AND HARRIERS

Once a proud and spiritual people, the Warrior Nation has fought long and hard to keep technology out of their lands. However, the pull on its people has consumed many of their warriors, and the Dark Council has influenced even the strongest of their leaders. With the corruption spreading like a virus, the shape shifting Warrior Nation men and women become trapped in a half animal half human form left to walk the land as deformed creatures with no home. Once these proud warriors leave the guiding light of the Great Spirit, they are doomed to a blood thirsty life of war. Their beast and human form aide those in their battles against anyone who would dare oppose them. With weapons and technology at their side, these beasts may never be stopped.

    Which sculpts are re-sculpts?

To be honest they look pretty similar, if not outright the same, as the previous plastics. Have they been touched up though? The renders look a lot crisper, that's for sure.

Loving that Marshall Reeves is being used as the scale marker too. What a great sculpt he is!

Also got my rulebook the other day. Quite impressive! Looking to get some games in under the new rules soon!

Something strange is happening in the world of Wild West Exodus and we know you are going to love it. The jolly fat man has decided the chimney is a tad too small and that certainly isn't reindeer you can hear on the roof... Kyle the Red & White is coming to ye 'olde town!

You may have already seen the Beasts of War announcement (https://www.beastsofwar.com/wild-west-exodus/exclusive-warcradles-awesome-xmas-miniature/) but we wanted to give you the full details first! Our seasonal miniature, Kyle the Red & White (and 'Max' a particularly quirky K9 Attack Dog), will be available to order until December 30th this year.

But, if you miss him this year, fear not, he will reappear with his trusty companion next December!

Kyle the Red & White (http://www.wildwestexodus.com/enlightened/49803-kyle-the-red-white) is a special edition miniature for this festive period from Warcradle Studios. This seasonal version of Kyle the Black also comes with "Max", Kyle's faithful K9 Attack Dog curiously sporting his own festive reindeer horn. Kyle and 'Max' (a particularly quirky K9 Attack Dog) are resin miniatures and come complete with a large plinth base to display them on.

For those that wish to use them in a game of Wild West Exodus, they could be taken as an alternate miniature for Kyle the Black and a K9 Attack Dog - we're including the additional bases needed for them to be fielded separately just in case players want to do just that. Kyle is carrying a toy Union battleship for a lucky girl or boy as well as a host of other enlightening surprises!

The miniatures are packed full of neat touches and fantastic festive details. Dare you give him a kiss under his mistletoe? Not if you are fond of your lips and face you won't!

    This product contains:

1x Kyle The Red & White Miniature
1x "Max" The Attack Dog Miniature
    3x Bases

What scale are the miniatures of this game?
Anyone compared how they look next to Games Workshop?

    Cheers

Is Romeo Filip completely out of this game now that Warcradle owns it, or is he still getting residuals from the IP? I've been mildly interested in the game but refuse to give Battle Foam or any of his other properties any money on the stance that he is an donkey-cave, and I don't support donkey-caves

Lee and Stuart from Warcradle Studios have some exciting news!

Check out our latest video to hear all about our new setting: The Dystopian Age.

    So in summary:

    - Awkwardly jam two quite different, separate game's plotlines into one, including adding supernatural elements to a science-based game.
    - Split Dystopian Wars into two separate games.
    - And change the scale of one of them while at it.

    Yippee.

Yeah I'm a bit confused as well. For instance in Wild West Exodus the North (Union) won or exists but in Dystopian Wars didn't the Confederates win? How is that reconciled?
