Greetings! I, in my own stupidity, have fallen in love with Ahrimmans new Horus Heresy mini, and, since I love the HH game, I will be building a new Thousand Sons army to follow him around. This was going to be be the Prospero Burns box, but I quickly relized that, since the TS are quite an "ornate" legion, I would have to convert and/or use upgrades on most of the models.
So that's what I'll do.

Basically, everything that has Artificer Armour will get a FWTS mkIV Torso and/or head, and I will mik left over MKIV bits form BaC and various bits box finds in with them. The seekers will get the special TS armour, to show they're "special".
So, that's all for now, once I get some test models done I'll post pics.
Burning of Prospero has arrived and my first models have been built (these ones are slightly less Sons-y than my future ones, due to them being built completely out of plastic parts).
Scarab Occult:
These guys will be maxed out to a squad of 9, once I get my hands on the new 40k Scarab Occult. The only conversion here are some of the LC (I built them backwards because Tzeentch), but once they're painted they'll seem more Properine (just wait and see).
Im not sure if I like it, Id prefer using TK stuff but thanks to GW squatting them I can't find any swords on eBay or any of the bits sellers online. I guess I`ll just wait for the next flea market at my FLGS and hope someones selling Tomb Guard for cheap.
Next up are my Heavy Bolter dudes, followed by my Seekers when my FW order arrives.
I have no idea whats up with my computer, thats the only way my images will post.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Seeing as my Sons are an "evil" army, I thought they needed some terrain to fit the army theme. Normally, Ill just build some altars or buildings and call it a day, but this time I thought my project deserved something better (read: bigger).
So here it is! My first attempt at building a Zone Mortalis board!

So far this is all have, with materials for another 6 pieces awaiting their turn. This will give me a 2x4 foot board, and Ill expand to a 4x4 once I get more foam. The walls will be added in soon, Im still not sure what I should use for them (Ill probably end up using plasticard) so suggestions are welcome. When I googled "Custom ZM board" all that came up where either Tyrannin themed ones or 2d ones, so Im doing this without any real resources except the FW ZM images and rules.
The board will represent the ship that my army used during the crusade, and that they've started using after Prospero again. I plan to get some Mechanicum models for the crew and maybe convert some GSC neophytes as lower rank serfs.
Also help with the ships name is appreciated, all I can come up with are things like "Magnus` Rage" and "Fury of Prospero", which don't sound very interesting.

Ive started on the walls for the Delta Complex (the one with the walls in the corners).
My plan is to add Mechanicum symbols to every other wall panel, and have pipes and wires covering most of the exposed spaces. I might also try and find some Rhino consoles to make some kind of scribe station, or maybe a small altar to Tzeentch. Suggestions are welcome.
And yes, I started today with a sheet of foam board. All of this was done in the last few hours.
Since my FW stuff hasn't arrived yet, I can't start work on the Seekers and Tacticals.
So here is my first Support marine. As always I began with the sergeant.
He is armed with a Heavy Bolter and Augury scanner, represented by the Tzeentchian eye he carries around. I like to think that it constantly watches out for enemies, and screams loudly whenever it sees one.
The Hvy Bolter is from BaC, and required a lot of cutting and re-positioning to fit on the MK III arms. Im going to have to do this again, seeing as the BoP box only has 3 Hvy Bolters.
Next up will be the rest of the squad, followed by more ZM tiles. Painting should start in a few weeks, once it gets warm enough to spray undercoat.

I tried another variant of Power Khopesh, this time using a nemesis falchion base and a WE Ranger weapon.
Im still not sure about it, i like the blade but the hilt seems off. Suggestions on how to make it better are appreciated.
Started thinking about what to put in those big open spaces of my ZM board, heres what Ive come up with:
Im not sure about the double pentagram, with the 9 pointed one ( ) over the 6 pointed one, although i do like the placement of the 5 cult symbols and tzeentch symbol (which will most likely be pointing towards the exit.)
Im thinking about having the floor in the middle of the circle be cracked, with strange, otherworldly light shining through and eyes lurking in the depths, but im not sure how much Ahriman will like his underlings messing up his ship.

Tzeentch decided I should change the way my name looks.
Did some more work on the Delta Complex, it now has all its walls and almost all the trim, debris have been added (they'll most likely just get in the way of my minis, but ehh).
The cracks in the floor will either be glowing blue or oozing greenish-black fluid, ill let you guys decide on that. Im also going to paint blood splatters around some of the corners, as if someone took cover there and failed their cover save roll. Im also thinking about painting runes into some of the panels, like on the Burning of Prospero tiles. Next up is the other tile, the one with the Pentagram thing. Stay tuned.
A question for the followers of Tzeentch (and everyone else who feels like answering)!
As you may know, my goal for this army is to have it be lead by Amon, because I like how his story and Ahriman`s intertwine. I am going to have him on a Jetbike, because why not, but I still haven't decided how to model him. I will defiantly give him a Sons torso, but I can settle on his helmet. Now, I know Ahriman is currently wearing Amon`s armour (in the 41st millennium) and Amons helmet seems very distinct.
My options are:
1: Use a generic Sons helmet form FW and claim Amon got his horned helmet later.
2: Use a AoS Chaos Warriors helmet.
3: GS horns onto a Sons helmet (probably won't come out well...)
4: Buy Ahriman`s new mini and just use the helmet.
5: Buy Ahriman`s old mini and use the helmet.
Im leaning towards 1, but I would love Ahrimans new minis helmet (i dont want to spend 25£ own it though). What do you guys think...
Welcome to the TSons club Emberlord! If you are looking for easy ways to bling out your force I have discovered a couple of easy hacks that you may want to try out
For khopesh style power swords you can just take any old blade and carve out the inside section leaving only the sharp edge remaining. Just be careful you don't remove your finger in the process...

For nice bits of egyptian style crests you can't go wrong with picking up the Necron Lychguard. Not only do they come with a nice selection of blades also, but their staffs have anough nice bits on them to decorate several squads of marines if you chop 'em up right. Plus you get some sick robot torsos in the process
Thanks guys! I will defiantly try out the Khopesh conversions, and the 'Crons could be useful as a plan on marketing some Mechanicum crew for my ship (board...whatever).
As for the board, I plan on making a full 4x4 foot board, mostly using FW's tiles as a template but some of the more decorative tiles will be custom, with different wall arangements and such. Stay tuned for more, the second and third tiles are awaiting paint now so...
And the Sons will receive paint next week, Ill be in London for the weekend so I can buy paints for cheap.

The wind's cry, gusting through the canyons, nearly drowned out Amon's shout.
"There is nothing on this damned world, and I can think of no other reason for us to be here!"
The shape before Amon slowly turned, revealing the Sorcerer he was addressing.
"Patience," spoke Ahriman "We will find what we are seeking in due time."
"But the men!" replied Amon "We lost many to those beast on the plains, and since I can neither see nor sense any form of beacon here, we will not be returning to the Planet of the Sorcerers to receive more!"
"Magnus would not give us any more, even if we could return!"
This came from behind Amon, and Ahriman recognized one of the Veterans that had been assigned to guard him by his primarch.
"Magnus has his own worries. It is best we leave him be, until his lamentations have died down."
Ahriman was silent. The Librarians helmet sank slowly, until it touched his breastplate.
"I fear..." he spoke softly, so that Amon could barely hear him "I fear our Primarch will never recover."
As night fell, three days later, Ahriman, ever at the head of the convoy, stopped.
"We have arrived." He said, gesturing towards the valley below. Through the darkness, Amon could see lights shining.
"Its a ship." This came from one of the last remaining Scarab Occult, who was standing behind Amon.
"A Mechanicum ship." Replied Amon.
"But why would one of Mars' explorator ships be here?"
Ahriman stared at Amon coldly before replying.
"This was one of the ships the Dogs attacked without warning, when they entered the Prosperous system. This is what I have been tracking. I am surprised Magnus' own equerry could not sense it. Although you did also fail to sense Russ, if I remember correctly."
Amon took a step towards him. He drew his sword, placing the tip of it at Ahriman's neckpiece
"Careful, Ahriman, that you do not overstep your position. You may lead us, but the men trust me more than you. Best be careful now, lest the other decide on a… wiser leader.” Amon turned, letting his sword drop to his side. “In a few minutes, our most esteemed Pyrae will come running over that rise to tell us…”
“Lord Ahriman!” Tolbek head became visible above the crest of the hill, running with his staff in hand. “The ship’s bays have opened, and things are coming out!”
He slowed, seeing Ahriman and Amon staring at him. After taking a few more strides, he stoped, gazing up at Ahriman.
“What is our course of action.”
“Let them come.” Ahriman turned back to Amon and the clustered Scarab Occult. “We mean them no harm.”
They waited.
Sorry about the lack of updates this past weekend, I was in London so I couldn't work on anything. On the upside, i purchased some Rubric Marines there, and Imperial Primer (so i can finally paint! Curse you, snow gods!). I did manage to do some more work today, so here's my next tile (still WIP):

To celebrate 1000+ views, I've decided to let you guys help me with something (Haha! I am most generous ). One of my favourite aspects of building an army are the names, and typically every single one of my marines, allies, commanders and even vehicles has a name. Most times i use random name generators, usually one latin one, a list of names from the modern-day region the legion was recruited from (example: for my Raven Guard i used a Turkmen and Kyrgestani one, as central Asia was where the XIX legion was recruited) to represent the Terran elements of the legion. I also try to think up custom names, basing them around the legions home world.
But this time, I have a slight problem. I not only have an army im working on, but also muh board (if you missed that, get your eyes checked) which represents the ship my army is using. So I am going to need a name for that.
Here is a list of things that need names:
- A Mechanicum ship
- The mistress of astropaths (female)
- The navigator (male or female)
- The Arch Magos / Captain of the ship (male or female)
- A few names for lesser tech priests. (male or female)
Please comment, if we can get 10+ replies I will do something. Im not sure what, but something.
Hmmm, I usually find names to be a rather tricky part of my fluff-building. I'll give it a go though.
For the Navigator names, I'm a fan of Weirdingway's Navigator Household which uses vaguely Italian/Venetian renaissance names melded with aetheric-sounding vowels.
For the mechanicum ship how about The Glorious Explorator Vessel 'Tempus Gladium', or 'Time's Knife' in bad latin
What're the details on the mechanicus guys? What are their eccentricities and we might be able to come up with something a little more fitting
Have to be honest, Mechanicus names are not my strong suit. Can't give them human/SM names just because of how they are. I would have always thought that the ship's name would be dependant on the type of craft it was - you wouldn't give the name "Phalanx" to a small exploration vessel!
So I'll ask this, how big is the ship, and is it one of the flagships?

My plan is to have the ship commanded by a Magos Explorator, who has scoured the galaxy in a quest to find lost Archaeotech. They were assigned to the Thousand Sons legion, and were part of may quests with the Legion. On one of these, the Magi came across shards of ancient human relics, allowing the tech-priests to tap int the Warp and manipulate its currents. Attempts to recreate the technology have been unsuccessful, although this has not stopped their Enginseers from trying. This has made them somewhat untrustworthy in the eyes of other Mechanicum representatives, but also much praise from their Prosperine brothers.
The Ship
The ship is a relatively small Explorator ship, designed to support other, larger Strike Cruisers but also conduct missions on its own. Built during the dawn of the Great Crusade, it had been fitted with Terran technology along with its Martian equipment. It also contained hangers able to transport Stormbirds, and later Thunderhawks, along with enough Boarding Torpedos and Drop Pods to deploy a small strike force of Thousand Sons. Due to its somewhat eccentric masters, certain areas of the ship contained strange arcane machinations, some of which have strange, occult meaning.
Eye of the Omnisiah sounds cool, now how about some names for Tech-Priests?
Plus I started painting the Terminators, I am going to my FLGS now to purchase Mephiston Red spray to speed up painting (because 4-5 coats brush painted on is just too time consuming).
Ahriman is also awaiting his first coat of paint, so I'll post pics soon.
I gave him a bolt pistol from the Vanguard Veterans kit.
He will be leading a 5-man veteran squad to act as Ahriman's bodyguard, with a second squad for Tolbek once I get a mini for him.
And now a question:
Do I need to undercoat a model with chaos black BEFORE I use another spray? Or can I go ahead and spray mephisto red on a grey plastic mini?

I see my last few posts have been met with little excitement. Sigh...
Another Terminator. I spent a few hours blending his Force Sword, meticulously building up the blue until, finally, I was ready to apply the final shade. Forgot to thin it, and the sword ended up green.
I wouldn't get disheartened by the lack of comments something I've realised is that if you come out with a bunch of stuff in quick succession as you've done it can feel like you're putting out a lot of work with little attention garnered, when really most people log on every couple of days to check out what's happening

Also, its finally warm enough to spay paint here so my Vets will hopefully get done this weekend.
Some more progress has been made, in the form of trial and error (mostly error) with my new Mephiston Red spray. GW has been contacted, but other than that all I can work out is that the pigment is just to high, causing the paint to look off and crack (after stripping the models I had to rub them with a soft, dry brush while clouds of red dust billowed from the models. Apparently, Ahriman completed his Rubric earlier than I hoped...).
So I painted this to cheer me up:
I was so in to it that it took me only about 3 hours to complete, including the base.
I also painted a dead Space Pupper
Im not sure if I should paint the rest of the base with Agrellan Earth (like the Custodes and my Raven Guard) to show the Sons' Egyptian roots or do some kind of cobblestone for Prospero's streets.
Plus a pic of my workspace. 10 points if you can recognise all the minis there.
He's looking great! I must admit you've really hit the nail on the head with the ratio of 'space marine' to 'space egyptian' with this dude
If you are looking for a bit more pop on the backpack, have you thought of a little more gold? Perhaps the little claw things holding the vents in gold to match the gold on the legs?
Said it in the painting comp but I'll say it here, that Veteran is the perfect balance of 'Space Marine' and 'Space Egyptian'.
I've always thought that Rubrics were a little busy with their ornate head-dresses, but your dude is ornate enough to be distinctly Prosperine, but not over the top
Does anyone know where I could get some of these helmets? (without buying more destroyers)
Also Im working on my Seekers, just waiting for their FW helmets (Achean Pattern ones) and ill finish them. So far Ive tested making sniper rifles for them (counts-as boaters with special ammo, but they look like sniper rifles)

The MKIV helmets have grills in the mouthpiece, the destroyer helmets have a flat armour piece around the mouth. I searched FW, I don't think you can get destroyer helmets on their own. Call and ask, I've heard they have great customer support.
I extended the barrel about half a centimetre, added a support for it and built a scope out of spare plaisticard. Not sure on the scope, but I am flat out of the ones that come in the SM tactical squad and cant find my scout sprues. So that's all Ive got.

This guy is defiantly Terran, from before the legion was re-united with magnus, and still hasn't fully embraced the legions new mentality. His custom bolter was most likely built by him, and has been slowly modified over time. He is defiantly going to stand out, the other seekers will have FW helmets and rubric marine bolters. My plan is to have his shoulder pads lack the legion symbol, and only have the XV legion numeral. He will also be covered with kill marks, as will the rest of the squad, but he will defiantly have more.
Neat I've always thought it's a good idea to make up some models for your main army's mortal enemies. Neat way of telling stories and giving your army a bit of a story to it
I'm seriously questioning whether I should keep coming back here. You've betrayed us all with that damn space wolf. Which reminds me, I have to go sell/destroy my unbuilt Stormclaw boxset.
Now back to KSons. I wont be able to paint next weekend (I'm in france) but the weekend after that will hopefully see me finish the ZM board and Support Squad.

As for painting reds, have you tried a brown wash like Reikland Fleshade? I've found that with a re-highlight of the original colour looks pretty sweet
Geigor, the most recent Marine I've painted, is on the left. On the right is the first marine I built and painted. That was roughly 3 years ago, so Ive made some progress at least
I also change my KSons painting method slightly, I now undercoat with Mephiston Red Spray, THEN glaze with watered-down Mephiston Red, THEN do an all-over Agrax Earthshade wash. After that Evil Sunz Scarlet and Fire Dragon Bright.

So I decided to build Tolbek!
His right arm, legs and backpack are from BaC, his head is a MK IV KSons one, as is the torso. His left arm and shoulder pads are Rubric Marine ones, and the eye on his backpack is from the Rubric Marine sorcerer staff. I also gave him a book from a GK banner and a knife from the WE glade guard box. Oh, and a Vanguard Vet chainsword.
Next up are the rest of the seekers!

Chaplain: I guess? Doesn't seem too KSons-y to me... Master of Signals: Good in-game, and Id Kina like to see a psychic MoS Legion Champion: THIS could be awesome (read: Biomancy!!). Aaaand fluffy. Viligator: Also kinda fluffy, especially with Amon and the KSons scout-things Another Librarian: Why not? Forge Lord: Not TOO fluffy, but ok. Also a potential cheese king (I wrote something about him on the KSons tactics thread) Siege Breaker: Again, not fluffy. Primus Medica: Fluffy-ish, plus useful on the battlefield Moritat: Nerfed to death, but I like them. Also fluffy. Delegatus: serves no real purpose. No idea why id do him... Legion Praevian: I don't have any robots (YET!!!! -Ember'sInnerForgeworldLover) so doesn't have any purpose.
I stuck bits of sprue down and then covered the whole thing with PVA. I then dumped it in my Base Box (Mostly sand, plaster chips, small rocks, gravel, dried PVA, sprue clippings, grass tuffs, clump foliage, even a few melts guns and CSM bolters). I then spray painted it Chaos Black and dry brushed over it, followed by Agrelllan Earth in patches and BFTBG/ Nurgles Rot.
Now, I am also posting this to ask you guys something. What should I do for the next Unofficial Painting Comp? The theme is "Primal", so no KSons, but I have a few other ideas:
Out of the three, the wolf is the most 'primal' but the Dark Mechanicum tech priest is what I wanna see the most. And I have spilt more pots of paint than I want to think about.
I decided to use some of y unpainted BaC minis for the tactical squads, so I was left with a few extra MK IIIs. Heres what I did with one:
Easy conversion, his bolt pistol was given an Ork bayonet and I used a bolter magazine to make it look special (Its an Archaeotech pistol, after all). His banner is half a Plague Monk stave with scrolls from the same box, as is the censer (cut off from a plague monk flail).
I also decided to use Ahriman's bas for Tolbek, and build a new one for Ahriman.
More work will be done today, and I'll hopefully purchase my Cairn Wraith (for the Tech Priest) later today or tomorrow.
I finished the building phase! Here he is!
His staff is from the Skaven Plague Monks box, it gives him a more archaic look than a electronic one. The weird GS blob will become some kind of fleshy device, Maybe tenticles?
The "body" is a GK Psicannon jammed up his robe and the flamethrower is Sisters of Silence. Oh, and the chain blade is a chain fist attachment from BoP.
The holes in his robe are great for cables.

I decided to paint the Tech Priest pink instead of red, to show he's sort of renegade. I'll be gone for the week, so no more painting until next Thursday. Sorry.
The procession of crimson clad warriors, perhaps 40 in total, reached to top of the cliff. At it head, his helmet mag-locked to his, stood a legionaire with long black hair. Ahriman stepped forward, his veterans and Amon behind him. The bare headed warrior knelt. "Thank the Emperor!" he cried "we are not alone!"
Amon shifted nervously beside Ahriman. He cast a glance at Tolbek, who shook his head slowly.
"Tell me, lord Ahriman" said the kneeling astartes "has prospero been saved?"
Ahriman waited before speaking
"No."
The silence rang out. None of the surrounding Marines dared speak.
Ahriman knelt down and placed a hand on the kneeling Space Marines head.
"Tell me, brother, how did you manage to escape the wolves."
The kneeling space marine stood, followed by Ahriman. He turned to his assembled warriors before speaking.
"I am sergeant Bathos of the XVth legion. I am a son of Magnus the Red and a loyal servant of the Emperor of Mankind."
Tolbek moved beside Ahriman.
"Perhaps his sanity has been somewhat changed" said Tolbek.
"Quiet" replied Ahriman.
Bathos, ignorant to Tolbeks remark, continued:
"I was sent by our Primarch to accompany the Tech-Priests of Zhao-Arkad on their expedition to the Halo stars, to search for Archaotech. I was sent under Magos Explorator Anhortari, captain of the Eye of the Omnissiah. Upon leaving the Prospero system, we were attacked by the VIth legions vanguard. Boarded by the Wolves, we were forced to barricade them in the lower decks and activate our warp drive far from Prospero's Mandeville Point."
He paused for a minute before continuing, his voice barely a whisper.
"We could not close the warp shutters. There are... things there. Unholy things. They spoke to us, and more than one of us spoke to them." He shuddered "And then the Wolves arrived. They had freed thenselves from the hold, and they rushed the bridge while we were still trying to set out destination."
He lifted a hammer from a strap on his back.

To be fair, that is a very good drawing. Probably the best portrait of a block of cheese I've ever seen!
Really though, as long as I see a finished Arhiman (he was shaping up really well) I'm not bothered where you go with this. Which Craftworld has taken your fancy?

Ahriman followed Bathos down the narrow corridors of the Eye of the Omnissiah. Three of Ahriman's veterans followed, their footfalls echoing off the walls. They paused before a large blast door and waited, while Bathos punched in a code.
Ahriman glanced at the walls.
"What is that symbol?" He asked.
Bathos turned as the door opened. He gestured towards the blood colored sogil on the walls.
"Whenever the Wolves drew the blood of one of us, it pooled into that shape. No doubt something to do with the warp currents. It doesn't come off."
Ahriman remained silent as they entered the bridge. The few remaining servitors clattered away in their cubicles, each lit by a a single red light. The only other light came from the systems star, just visible in the far distance.
Bathos and Ahriman climbed the steps to the observation deck, where Amon and Tolbek stood. Behind them floated Tech Priest Khardon, the de-facto captain of the Eye of the Omnissiah. Ahriman felt uneasy at the sight of the Magos, the weeks since their arrival having done nothing to quench his feelings.
Amon turned towards theme
"First Captain"
Ahriman nodded in recognition.
"I have received news from our brothers on Soritarius. They wish for us to return."
Ahriman smiled, his bare head inclining slightly.
"No." He replied.
"I will not return. Take your troops, if you wish, and leave. But I shall stay."
Amon stepped forward.
"You have been acting off since Magnus fell, Ahriman. We all feel it, but will you turn your backs on your brothers because of it? Will you go so far?"
Ahriman turned his back to Amon. He sighed.
"Before we left, I created a psychic memory of myself on Soritarius. Return if you wish."
Ahriman continued.
"If you do return, talk to the others about our plan. My reflection will assist you, just as well as the flesh and blood me. Tell them of our cause. And make it happen. Save the legion."
Amon stepped back. He smiled.
"You have not change. I am glad to see that."
He turned as well, and gestured to his veterans.
"Gather in the lower decks, and prepare for our departure."
He turned once more and smiled at Ahriman.
"Good hunting."
"To you as well, Amon." Replied Ahriman. "To you as well."

I've started a small Slaanesh warband for 40k (the link above), but I thought I'd post some progress pics here, as the first character Im building ties into my KSons fluff.
Well, I picked up my brush for the first time in three weeks and got to work (I really want to finish my painting comp entry).
The results of the last few hours:

And started my Sisters of Silence! I was originally going to paint them bronze, but then I spotted James Karchs Astral Templars in WD 113, so decided to paint them purple. The armour is 1:1 Khorne Red and Abaddon Black, highlighted with 1:1:1 Khorne Red, Black and White Scar. The robes are Rakarth Flesh, and the gold is the same as my Custodes' details (retributor followed by liberator gold).
Next up are the rest of the KSons vets. I'll be batch painting them, so it won't take too long.

I really like how the rust turned out, considering its just lamian medium with some mournfang brown and fire dragon bright mixed in.
My thoughts on the tentacle things is that the magos expels his guts to take in information, as another sense, and because its gross and I like starfish.
Last pic. His mechanicum symbol has a compass in it (that looks strangely like a chaos star), and his base has green marble flagstones on it, along with something distinctly... xenos. Wonder what it is?
Yeah, the Osiron would probably be the most useful, but those Khenetai and termies look super cool.
Unfortunately, yesterday was ma FLGS's flea market, something I had been looking forward to for almost a year now (last time I managed to get six OOP warhawks and a unit of five war dancers for a grand total of 30 CHF, about 20£). I woke up yesterday with a cold, decided to go out in the rain anyways and made the half-hour train trip to the store to find... one of the owners selling a few sylvaneth and some other guy who had a box full of broken 'nids (almost bought those, until I realised there were the parts for three carnifexes and no instruction booklets), some likewise broken Tau and the worst painted dark vengeance box set ever. I nearly bought the syvaneth, until I asked for the price. The owner wanted 30 for ten dryads, which he justified because he had removed the mould lines very carefully AND already undercoated them. Now, that seemed like a deal until I realised I could turn around, take three steps and arrive at the stores AoS section, where a box of 16 dryads costs 34 CHF.
OK! Im back after facing nurgle (love my papa, even though he is a jealous bugger), and I think they KSons are ready for some more love. Seriously, its been more like "Everything But The Sons of Prospero Go To War" these last few weeks.
What I plan to do today: Finish my first veteran squad. Build 5 more ZM tiles. Base Ahriman. Make bases for the rest of the army. Paint the support squad. Build the rest of tac squad 1. Strip my old Guardians. Undercoat Guardians. Paint Guardians. Eat lunch. Eat dinner. Order my Eldar models Make a timeline of roman history because why not.

Im back! (You didn't go anywhere -InnerEmber) I got some more work done on the KSons (the next vet is done, so that means theres one more to go), but don't have any pics. While I waited for my paint to dry, I found an old CSM in the attic and decided to repaint him (well, it).
Its still very WIP, and I went a little overboard with the pink, but after the shade and dry brush are done it should look pretty good.

The first half of the first tactical squad. I'm going to finish building the rest as soon as I find more superglue and then I'll get to painting them! They don't have annoying trim, so they'll be done quickly (I hope)
I decided to post a group pic on f the already painted models (Ahriman's base is still being worked on). They will soon be deployed somewhere and take part in their first battle (a kill-team style game with custom rules, which seems like the only type of game I can play until 8th drops). I'll be taking Ahriman, the three vets and two of the Terminators, who will be run as sekhmet, and hopefully toss a nice amour of pyromancy (yay!) around before being squashed. Wish me luck!
Also, just wanted to say how sweet Ahriman looks something about the balance of the colours with the added tan robes and the bright blue spots really hits the spot for me
Well, I did ok. I played three games, the first was against ultrasmurfs, the second one was against Death Guard and finally I faced off against Orks (dunno what they were doing there). The ultrasmurfs player had a dreadnought, and killed one of the termies and a vet with its autocannon, smashed my chainfist dude and finally died to a melta bomb. Unfortunately, his missile terminator and veterans managed to gun down Ahriman and the terminator sergeant, so the first game was a loss.
The second game, against death Guard, basically had me running away from his deathshroud (three of them and a chaplain made up his whole army) and trying to cast inferno again and again (I lost two veterans from perils). Fortunately, the chaplain died to a molten beam and Ahriman chopped off the deathshroud sergeants head, so I won the second match The ork player brought along a few killa kans, along with several nobs (three, I think) and managed to kill Ahriman with overwatch. Go figure! The game ended, unfortunately for him, after I managed to kill the rest of his nobs and both the kans with molten beams and inferno. So another win for me!
All in all, it was a fun little game, and really the first time I've played my KSons (well, some of them). Im planing on painting the seekers this weekend, and maybe finish the last veteran.
Well, it's almost June already! How time flies by (especially when your 2081st birthday is coming up).
On dakka, as most of us know, a new month equals a new painting comp. This time, the theme will allow me to paint more KSons again. Yay!
I thought I'd let you dicide what I should paint. Remember, the theme is "Legendary".
Ember's Models-that-need-painting-and-could-be-legendary-maybe List:
1: Tolbek. His base has been painted, but the mini himself is still grey (three shades of grey, actually). Quite legendary, would be fun to paint.
2: Seeker with sniper rifle.
3: Sergeants
Ok, I currently have 10+ models on my table being painted, so expect some pics soon. I have tomorrow off (Yay obscure Christian holidays!) so I'll probably get more work done then. Maybe something big...
I really want rhinos for my vets (I typically forget DT, and suffer badly because of it), but don't want to use 40k ones and can't afford FW ones. My plan is to do something like this, but use the GW chimera kit. I'll call it... the Arkhad Pattern Rhino! or something...
Well, I managed to find a couple Chimearas for 7£ a piece, but the shipping (another 10£) and the customs, that should be 20%, but knowing the swiss authorities and their refusal to believe someone would buy 100+£ of plastic models, thus requiring them to open the package and sift through my stuff, means the customs goes up to 50%. So that could be 20£.
But I don't want to think about that now. Here are some Sons!
Don't worry, those white areas will get a coat of White Scar (the beige is just an undercoat to help with shading) and the gold will end up paler. Next up: Tolbek! I will defeat you, Commander Cain! (It's a friendly painting competition... -InnerEmber).
Yes it is, it's actually really easy to do. You just carefully cut off the bolsters barrel, remove the remaining pointy bits and attach some sort of plastic tube, like styrene or even wood, if you wanted to.
This is my current task:
I might not be as neat to a finished mini as you, commander Cain, but I have a few hours set aside for this guy now.
Tolbek's done and awaiting his base, and I managed to get the gold trim done on all the seekers. I'll hopefully finish painting the white bits and move on to the details this evening.
I'm with you on the off-white really compliments the scheme. Glad you're getting into the comfort zone with this scheme too. Feels really nice to be able to confidently crank out work you're happy with
If you fancy taking things a step up at any point then some weathering would look really nice (I've just started doing it myself and it's a little nervy the first time but looks great!).
Just a little (very) drybrush of silver on the sharp edges of the armour where the paint's worn away.
Also, where did you get those heads on the right from? They look really damn cool
Yeah, I've been debating weathering them, but I tend to either go crazy, like my Raven Guard, or not do enough. I might try the silver edge techique, though. It sounds interesting.
And those heads are from FW, part of the Thousand Sons MK IV heads set.
Thanks for the tip on the heads. I'm looking for the right head to do a sort of Slaaneshi noise-marine. There's a really nice piece of artwork that's got almost a howler head that looks so damn cool, but I can't find anything like it in the model range...
All they need is a final wash on their ammo pouches, an extra highlight for their eyes and transfers, and then they'll be done!
I also tried two different weathering techniques. Firstly, their weapons have painted-on scratch marks, and I also drybrushed and sponged Sylvaneth Bark (their base's highlight) onto the legs.
After I finish these guys, I'll move on to the first Tac squad, and maybe finish off the last terminator.
Looking great dude those little bits of weathering are excellent. The Sylvaneth Bark makes it look ever so slightly dusty, and the little chips of silver work nicely. Little touches like the dusty legs seem to me to connect the model to its basing just a little, making it seem like he's been trudging through the battlefield, rather than just finished polishing his armour
Started the bases (and Ahriman's one, so I can finally call him finished). I just need to wait for them to dry, and then I'll spray them and drybrush them.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I decided to take a photo of the entire painted army (so far). Unfortunately, the unpainted bases were the same colour as the background, and my photo editing software didn't recognise the difference, so theres a bit of white background around the edges. Sorry.
I was looking over my KSons collection and have noticed my lack of progress. By this thin last year, I had finished my intire RG army minus the tanks and droppods, but I've only got 15 or so Thousand Sons done.
So to motivate myself, I decided to purchase something big as a centerpiece.
My options are quite limited, since I just a spent a ton of money on my Eldar, but I have enough funds to buy myself on 50£ or so mini from FW. So my options are:
-Predator, probably an Executioner.
-Vindicator
-GW land raider.
-Some Rapiers, because (to quote my fav BL novel) there is always need for a track-mounted cannon.
I am also going to try my hand at scratch building some Crassus armoured transports as Counts-as Spartans, and build a few tarantulas ( in thinking of doing a living statue kinda thing). So what do you guys think?
Careful with declaring something a centerpiece model though, I did that with my fellblade, then my Dreamforge knight, then a big flyer and now I have three companies of space marines!
Also the best way to make some good progress is to set deadlines for yourself, nothing too crazy but give yourself a couple of weeks to get a unit done. There are also a few painting challenges running on dakka atm that you could join

To be fair, that isn't the BIGGEST pile of models that you could have at one time, but it'll need a good bit of resolve to get through. Summer is a long time though, I think you'll be fine
I kicked off the summer holidays with a quick game of HH kill teams, Raven Guard vs Thousand Sons. I, unfortunately, loaned my Sons to my opponent and brought Raven Guard (more on that later).
Here are the armies (250p)
My Raven Guard force, lead by Chaplain Irrenaeus. Under his command were brothers Demiphio, Arvaan and Caruclio armed with volkites, and brother Galaglion, wearing cataphractii terminator armour and armed with a pair of lightning claws.
The Thousand Sons, lead by Tolbek. They had a pair of terminators, both Raptora cult, one armed with twin claws and one with a chain fist, who was also using the Sanctic discipline. They also had a veteran with Biomancy for good measure.
We played on a 2' by 2' ZM board (mostly unpainted, sigh...) so the game was quite quick, but none the less full of exciting turns where unexpected things happened. Tzeentch definitely had his fingers in this game. The only special rule was one I play with often: at the beginning of each turn, each player rolls a dice and the winner goes first, like AoS.
TURN 1
Raven Guard I did this: My entire army moved and then ran. Thats is.
Thousand Sons
The terminator rocking Telekinesis tried to use levitate and get behind my lines. Luckily, due to some quick deny the witch roles (triple sixes), it was prevented. Nothing else happened.
TURN 2
Raven Guard
My marines moved up again, getting within range of the enemy. Demiphio took a few shots at the nearest terminator, but they all bounced off his armour. Irrenaeus then tried his hand at killing something, but his plasma pistol overheated, costing him a wound.
Thousand Sons
Tolbek then powered up and cast Sunburst, but failed again to do anything. The other terminator attempted to cast Hammerhand again, but he was denied.
Turn 3
Raven Guard
More shots were fired at the terminators, but they all failed. Galaglion then charged the other terminator, chopping him to pieces. I actually wanted to charge the other one before remembering that one had cast hammerhead the turn before, and I didn't want to deal with s6 lightning claws. Unfortunately, I also charged Tolbek with my chaplain, who was then chopped in half by Tolbek's force sword.
Thousand Sons
More failed psychic powers. The remaining terminator charged Galaglion, but failed his wound rolls. Galaglion turned and calmly knocked his opponent aside, before setting his sights on Tolbek.
Turn 4
Thousand Sons
The Sons went firsts this time, and did surprisingly well. Tolbek attempted to cast Sunburst again, this time managing it. The blast killed everyone but Demiphio and Galaglion, leaving an even number of Sons and Ravens. Unfortunately, the other Thousand Son managed to roll perils while casting Life Drain, leaving Tolbek alone. Without his allies aid, Tolbek decided to charge Galaglion. His force sword bounced off Galaglion's energy field, and Galaglion retaliated by knocking a wound off Tolbek, who then failed his leadership check and ran off the board, no doubt calling for reinforcements.
The Raven Guard had managed to secure this area of the ship, but the fight would go on. Their Chaplain lay wounded, and they had lost several marines, but it was a victory non the less.
Thanks for reading, the game was a lot of fun to play and writing the batrep was cool to.
I'm on vacation now, and have plenty of time to paint. I have decided to set a goal for myself every week, in order to keep myself busy, until my birthday.
So what am I going to do this week:
For my Thousand Sons, I decided to paint this tactical squad (and build the other half).
I will paint my farseer and first Squad of Windriders for my Eldar, and do a squad for one of my old armies (BTW, i decided to revive the small armies I have in storage HERE )
All out painting, you should get these done fairly easily. One thing I will recommend is not to do a lot of the same stuff in one week. Make sure you don't find yourself doing infantry for all 3 projects - mix it up a bit. Maybe some Marine infantry, an Eldar vehicle, and a Tau character for example. Good luck!
Weakness in that particular piece exposed by the drop (which was likely table height would be my guess). As long as you are using liquid plastic cement repairs should be a breeze.
I haven't finished too much for my Sons recently, but I'm nearly done with the firsts tactical squad and the last seeker (as soon as I find his power fist). I did some experimenting on my bases, trying to incorporate different elements into them.
I applied left over decals to some of the larger pieces of rubble, and added more BFTBG.
I also tried creating glowing psychic energy by painting the base blue, covering it with masking tape and then spraying it black. The tape was peeled off and I then applied Agrellan Earth, Agrax Earthshade and then a dry brush of Skink Blue followed by White Scar.
Stay tuned, the finished tac should be up by monday.
Nice work on these guys, they've come up very nicely, as have the bases. You can also try using some white wash followed by Niklah Oxide wash into those gaps for the psychic energy effect.
Ok, its been a while since my last update, but I haven't been sitting idle: I have finished painting a tactical squad (pics will be up later, as soon as the bases dry) and built the rest of my BoP box. In other, somewhat unrelated news: its my birthday! So there may be some... resin... models appearing on this blog later. Also, if anyone was wondering, Exploding Kittens is an awesome game.

The sergeant and vexilla bearer, whose pose looks much less squat irl. They both have glowing eyes, to represent them acting psychic powers.
I'm wondering if I want to paint their straps a darker colour. What do you guys think?
The first bunch of battle brothers. The reloading conversion was really simple, I just sliced off the magazine and glued it to the hand, because it looks cool and totally not because I painted the wrong arm pair...
I decided to do more glowing effects on the bases.
The last part of the squad. All the minis have freehand glyphs on them, and I'll add transfers once I figure out the FW ones.
And the rear.
So, I'll probably take a break from painting new stuff after these guys, and focus on finishing up all the half-painted squads. After that, well, you'll see!
The Tacticals look nice...not so sure on the glowing effects on the bases, but the colours are solid.

Thanks. The glowing effect was actually supposed to be covered by aggrellan earth, but I used the wrong pot of it (I have one that doesn't crack too well) and had to scrape some of it off.

Aha! I actually have a basing box, which is full of sand, plaster rubble (I filled a can with cling film, then with plaster and finally smashed the whole thing) and dried wood glue. There's also a bunch of foam flock and a few plastic parts, and to make the bases by painting a portion of the base with PVA, then propping it into the box and leaving it there to dry. After that, I spray the whole thing with Chaos Black, pick out a few bits with Leadbelcher (normally the dried wood glue) and some with Gorthor brown. Finally, the large slabs are painted with off-white (can't remember the GW name...) and then it alll gets washed with earth shade and drybrushed with Sylvaneth Bark.

Looking good Ember! What wash did you use on the guns? I like the dirty white look it produces. The gold barrels on the guns are a good idea, tempted to steal that idea for a squad of mine down the road
Are you not going to paint the tubing around the legs silver or black? I find it really helps to break up the armour plates, especially on the MKIII suits.

Are you not going to paint the tubing around the legs silver or black? I find it really helps to break up the armour plates, especially on the MKIII suits.
The guns were done in a variety of ways, with the ones I had already attached to the arms painted with Rakarth Flesh, with a recess shade of Agrax Earthshad and an edge highlight of White Scar. The ones I didn't attach to the arms were sprayed Corax White, got an all-over shade of slightly thinned Agrax Earthshade and the white scar again. The gold is just Retributor Armour and agrax earth shade. I actually went back ti them and painted their joints and cables black...
Nice work Ember! Thanks for sharing your basing scheme - I'm trying to move away from boring mud and rock colour base you see so I need all the tips I can get!

You're welcome! I really enjoy basing, and I've done nearly every style of base imaginable (Ice, Melting snow, jungle, forrest, swamp, warpstone mine, 3 different types of desert bases, urban ruble...) so I'm always glad to share my experiences.

Also, I'm always impressed by people who take the time to actually paint their bases. All of mine are little more than a coat of PVA and dunked in sand, then a couple of tufts of static grass added...
Well, I'm trying to finish up all my semi-painted squads, and I have the second tactical squad to do. I'm debating whether I or not I want to do them as breacher marines, but I'm not sure where I'd get the shields. FW's boarding assault upgrades would be one option, except the arms are MK VII, not MK III (that sounds really nerdy now I wrote it...). I'm wary of using 3rd party ones, since I want to use these in GW tournaments. Oh, and there may or may not be a certain clump of resin with legs that'll be arriving soon, but I didn't just say that, did I?
i'm hoping to get the Sons finished by December, along with the Eldar (everyone has been built, so I just need to undercoat everyone and spend a week or so painting everything blue), and then it'll probably be DG for christmas.
I played another game last Sunday, 1000 points of Sons vs Raven Guard. I brought tolbek, 3 squads of 5 vets (each squad had 1 heavy bolder) and a rhino that I shamelessly stole from my old SM army. I ended up winning after Tolbek destroyed an entire 10-man veteran squad (with 9 power swords and a raven's talon), a Contemptor and a kitted-out chaplain in close combat, albeit with a little help from one of the vet squads, who stood on a hill and did telekinesis stuff the whole game. Alas, I also had a squad forget how to magic after I rolled perils while trying to cast levitate. They redeemed themselves by killing my opponents CC centurion (he had a 50 points left over, so it had a raven's talon and nothing else). All in all, it was a fun game, and as soon as my FW stuff arrives I'll be able to play a bigger one. Hopefully I can go kill some of my FLGS owner's DG!
I decided to gat a copy of First Strike, partly because I wanted to paint some death guard and partly because I wanted to finally get the rules for 8th edition, which I still haven't played.
So here you guys go: the start of the Apostles of Oxidation, my new nurgle war band.
I do have another Sons librarian on my desk that's nearing completion, so pics of that will be up soon for those of you that need to see more thousand sons. In somewhat unrelated news, the primaris half of the First Strike will be painted up as future-KSons, AKA Bloodravens

Thank you. The bolters were super easy and fun, and they really help to break up all the red. The plague marine was a joy to paint. I tried to make his armour look more worn than disgusting, although I did do some more rust streaks later.

There'll be more KSons soon. I'm going to pick up a large FW order when I next go to London (or the next time someone I know goes...), which will have several things for both my KSons and my Ravens.
I'm in Italy right now, so I can't get any painting done, but I've done some more sketches that I'll hopefully be able to post when the internet here, which is being routed through the US, gets better. Yes, it's dial-up. No, I don't have a time machine.
I'm also thinking about painting some HH Emperor's Children, loyalists of course. What do you guys think?

I took some time to revise my army list, and make it a little more competitive. Well, it still probably won't win any tournaments, but now it stands a chance against typical armies. Ive also bumped it up to 3000 points.

The plan is to have the big Veteran squads (with apothecaries) and the terminators take and hold objectives, while the smaller squad (without a rhino), support squad and seekers go hunt specialist units, like terminators or salamanders pyroclasts. I gave everyone I could a vexilla, to stop my entire army from screaming whenever someone rolls perils. Which will probably happen.
The two vet squads with rhinos get a librarian or an ahriman. The one with big A will probably hang back, while Tolbek's squad goes IC hunting. The Praetor, which has seen a big change (No more jetbike!) will end up in the assault squad, which will go and kill stuff.
The Castellax will go destroy heavy units, and the predator is for big annoying blobs.
Now, you may notice that my list is lacking anti armour. Well, I've got that covered (sort of). Most of the veteran squads will be running Pyromancy, and hopefully be able to get a few Molten Beams off. I also have a plethora of melta bombs.
All in all, its a fun, fluffy list that works with my play style, makes use of the Sons awesome psychic abilities and has a bunch of cool looking units.
Next up on my painting list are the seeker sergeant, the rest of the not-rubricae and the last terminator. Stay tuned!
I thought they looked funky it's been really interesting seeing people inject some variation into the monopose poxwalkers. Great to see what people are coming up with
Well guys, I decided to latch out all my 30k infantry. I think it’s almost enough, considering I have 30+ more Dudes to do.
This does not count my vehicle, which I either couldn’t find or are on my painting desk (or in the mail).
I have started working on the second veteran squad (and the last two members of the first...)

Was looking over those poxwalkers, coloration on them is excellent. They look like bodies who have been exposed to the elements for a few days (a good thing, in terms of detail work on a zombie-type creature.)
3 Things, firstly amazing job, secondly if your looking for a tech acolyte name try jim (check out all guardsman party if you don't get the reference), and lastly, maybe an orision dreadnought with a body guard of his former khenetai occult squad mates......

Thanks guys! I finished painting the Poxwalkers last week, and they were incredibly enjoyable. i would recommend them to anyone who hasn't already painted any.

It will. There have, however, been a few problems preventing me from painting. Firstly, I had exams last week. Secondly, it is now too cold to spray paint and thirdly, I spilled the last of my agrax earthshade and haven't had enough time to go pick up more.

Great idea(s)! I love the Khenetai models, and the orison too. First up, however, I have a few other FW things to paint. Stay tuned!
Also, I am currently painting my second tactical squad, and I decided to model one of them as a member of another legion that had been sent to prospero to train their psychic abilities. Now, the obvious choice would be a White Scar, Blood Angel or Word Bearer, but I could also go with another legion, like the Alpha Legion or even the Sons of Horus. What do you guys think?
Rejoice! Grandfather Nurgle has blessed me with another bout of sickness, so I now have a genuine excuse to stay home and paint!
Also, those of you who follow my Eldar blog, would you prefer if I combined it with this one, and changed this one a sort of general painting blog à la Ember?

Not sure on the combined plog front. It does help people find your work easier if you've got the one plog I think, but personally I like splitting out my eldar and human stuff. Not overly sure why to be perfectly honest...
Once i actually start my Void revival (probably in a year or two) I'll give it its own plog but i keep all the GW stuff in one general one, i just don't have enough to justify splitting it up.
Edit : so if you feel you don't do enough eldar to justify separation then merge.
Hey everyone! I'm not dead yet, surprisingly. But I have forgotten to update my blogs over the last few weeks. Since it is now 2018, I decided to do a recap of the last twelve months. All in all, i managed to fully paint: 50models. Spread over 3 worlds/eras. The models are part of 8 different armies, and 6 different allegiances. There are more space marines than any other faction, with 26. These are members of 3 different legions. There are 41 infantry models, 6 characters (including 3 named characters), 1 cavalry model, 1 walker and 1 tank. The models here are members of 4 different races: humans, skaven, elves and eldar. Humans are the most common, but all of them have been modified in some way. There are space marines, custodes, a tech priest and poxwalkers. While painting these miniatures, I tested out 9 new paint schemes. That's right: not one of these miniatures is painted like any other one I painted before 2017. That makes this year my most adventurous year ever since I started painting! Unfortunately, there is also some bad news. At the beginning of 2017, I promised to finish my Thousand Sons army before the end of the year. However, I still have 33 models left to paint. Oh well.
So that's my year in numbers. Next up, I have my favourite minis from this year.
Fifth: My Dark Mechanicum techpriest.
Next, in fourth, my favourite (and only!) space wolf: Geigor.
In third, the guy on the right here (ignore the other one). I'm really proud of the rust effects and the blue tabard.
In second comes this guy, who is one of my seekers. I love everything about him, from the pose, to the paint job to the base.
And, finally, at number one: my version of Tolbek.
Well, that's all from me. 2017 was an amazing year for me, at least hobby wise. I managed to complete most of my goals for the year... well, almost. Which brings me to next year's goals:

Nice update Ember. If you think about it though, if you go at the same rate as you did last year you should finish your KSons by the same time next year.
I spent the weekend in London, and during my trip I finally managed to shake off my Star Wars obsession that has been keeping me from painting. So I'm back now! While I was there, I remembered to pick up my bonesinger and MTO farseer, which'll be painted soon if the weather stays good. I also purchased one of the new nurgle heroes for my AoS chaos army.
In addition, I found a copy of The Crimson King in the semi-softback version, along with a SINGED copy of GARRO for a total of 10 pounds. Yay!

I'm going to play a game of 30k next Saturday, and I decided to run something different. Instead of taking either my Ravens or Thousand Sons, I decided to take both and run them as Shattered Legions. In order to use the After Istvaan RoW, however, you need a RG, Salamanders and Iron Hands HQ choice. Since I already have several Raven Guard ones, and a Salamanders chaplain, I just needed a IH one. So I decided to go with the big man himself (Big Sharrak? Man's not dead? Sorry...)
This is what I managed to throw together. Hopefully I'll manage to get him painted before next week.
Hey everyone!! I have made lots of progress since I last updated my blog, including my first big game with my KSons! Shattered legions VS Death Guard. My list was mostly Sons with a few Raven Guard units, and I may have taken too many psykers (veterans become NC-troops with the RoW I chose) because I absolutely destroyed my opponents army. Although that might be because his units failed to do anything spectacular: his phosphex-armed medusa missed everything, I killed a contempt and a tactical squad in one round of shooting with my Sicaran, and his big unit of terminators with attached chaplain were killed by one small squad of volkite. Also, if any of you are wondering, 2-wound terminators have no chance against a force axe wielding Librarian who also has Hatred.
Now, on to my plans for the future. I've always wanted an imperial militia army so I can run the Army of Dark Compliance theme, but most of GW's 40k humans just don't fulfil my requirements for a 30k army. That is, until now: What do you guys think? Would an army of guys like this look cool? I have a basic list idea right now, I'll probably take Survivors of the Dark Age and Gene-crafted as my Provenances, and use grenadiers squads and sentinels to make a small, fast-moving army.
And finally, I have of course finished up several more Thousand Sons units. Unfortunately, I have been sick for the past two weeks, so I don't have any photos right now. However, I will post some this evening. Stay tuned!
I always hated librarians who hated me back, but with an axe. I enjoy the game. 30k is in 7th edition rules which leave a bit sad. Still glory to the marine on the marine action.
I think the necromunda guy is a bit over the top, but he is totally cool as an elite trooper. Perhaps over geared for a line trooper. But who am I to judge?
I think the new Van Sarr models are amazing, and a big departure from GW's traditional aesthetic and the aesthetic they've been going for since AOS. That said, I think comradepanda is right, probably a bit OTT for line troopers in 40 or 30K. I might even get some for just generic advanced sci-fi humans outside of GW.

I'm back, guys! How long has it been? 9 months? In any case, far too long...
I have decided to get my old blog back on it's feet. I'm planning on turning this one into a mixed-faction blog (sorry Thousand Sons fans...) because, in all honesty, I have been working on lots of things since my last post and only a few are Sons. However, I'm planning on posting all of my TSons progress tomorrow... that's a promise. However, there are a few other things I'd like to show off. Which brings me to my first post...
WHAT HAS EMBER BEEN DOING SINCE HE LAST POSTED?!
These guys, mostly:
Black Legion. Don't worry, I didn't start another new army (well, I did, but this isn't it ). Instead, these guys are part of a large commission I have been working on for the past couple months. These (still WIP) Chosen were the first minis I finished, but there are still a ton of minis to paint, including...
Black Legion Plague Marines! 10 of them, to be precise, but so far I only have on at this stage. The colour scheme is not entirely mine, and uses a few... kinda odd colour combos, like the grey-white bone, which still needs cleaning up. I was given the freedom to make them look more nurgle-y, so I added my own rust wash in the recesses: mourning brown, fire dragon bright, water and dishwashing soap. I also changed the red flesh to a greenish-purple (but not octarine), which I also applied to the sword. I really like washes.
On to my own stuff:
Sons of Horus! Remember that new army I mentioned? This guy is a veteran sergeant/Knight Errant, which is why he has an Oath of Moment on his leg. Which I forgot to paint
He tanked a power fist in his first game (as a unpainted model), so I modified his backpack to show this. The conversion was pretty simple, I took one of the Space Marine heroes and added plastic and FW parts until he looked suitably 30k.
Last, but certainly not least, here is another Space Marine Hero:
Can anyone guess which chapter he belongs to? I had a lot of fun painting the purple: Screamer Pink with two coats of Drucii Violet and an edge highlight of Pink Horror. I'm trying very, very hard not to make a whole army of them, but I might have to buy a few more marines to make a full squad.
That's all from me for today, but it's *far* from all my new toys I'm going to be showing off. There will be mud, chaos, deceit, horror and a distinctly rogue household... stay tuned!

I really like the Black Legion Plague Marines, something about them having dark armour rather than green really helps them stand out.
That's a bold looking pink marine, my guess for the chapter is that the white scars put their armour in the same cleaning vat as the blood angels so the two chapters were forced to combine into one super chapter
