I'm excited to try it. I love the concept of the game, Viking vs Samurai vs Knight, and hope that the execution is great too! I declare tonight the night of the knights, and will report on them tomorrow.
Friday will be Viking day, capping off with Samuraiturday.
I tried it out too.. seems cool and all, but I can tell it's not something I'd be into enough to wanna buy. But I thank them very much for the free preview, I wish more games would do that.
I was surprisingly hooked by what I played of this last night. The concept is ludicrous, but once you get past that the mechanics are really solid. I like how weighty the combat feels, how there's a real back and forth to it and also how victory or defeat are based on skill; it's nice to play an online game where you know you died because you made a mistake rather than because someone you can't even see sniped you from half the map away.
Looks beautiful too, really top notch graphics and animations.
So far I've been going with whatever the basic Knight is, that all-round style seems the best for starting out. I had a brief dabble with the Samurai spear one, which was interesting, I might move to that class over the weekend. I've not touched any Viking stuff yet, I'll get to that later though.
Not anything I'll be buying on release, but it'll definitely end up on the 'get it when it's cheap' list, unless there's some other problem the beta doesn't bring up like an overall lack of content or whatever.
It is a tremendous amount of fun. I played mostly warden, basic knight, because I didn't realize your money could not only be used for new gear, but also to unlock the other classes. Oops. I found dominion and elimination to be the most fun. Melee only really makes a 1 life brawl an interesting challenge.
Duel was too hardcore for me- my skills are very weak, and 5 rounds against anyone of even moderately higher skills resulted in a not very fun experience. I really like it, but I can't play it for too long a period of time. Every battle matters, and is very intense. There's so much subtlety in their mechanics.
Just so you know, you can play as any class without spending anything, you just can't apply any upgrades. So if you want to try out a class you can, and you can use it as much as you like, but any rewards you gain for that character (as in new paint/armour/weapons) won't be equip-able until you actually unlock the character with coins.
I've been playing a bit of Duel this morning, and after losing my first game went on to win 6 or 7 straight against the same opponent. A few tricks I picked up:
- Watch their stamina as well as yours. When their bar is out, that's your chance to really pile on the damage. Keep in mind that you can still block/dodge when out of stamina, so if you run out just go defensive for a few seconds, let your opponent wear themselves down then as they run out, you've recharged and can do them in.
- Fighting dirty is a good tactic. If you're using one of the heavier classes with a good Throw, ledges are a great way to end things quickly, and even without them, shoving your opponent into a wall or obstacle can get you a moment to press the advantage or withdraw.
- Try and 'learn' your class. Work out how many attacks you can get in with a full bar of stamina, the speed of your attack and guard switches, the range on your swings. It'll start to come naturally after a few games, but early on paying attention to this will be a big help.
If you want to give Duel another go, I suggest using the Shield and Mace Knight. He's got a nice throw for environmental kills, his shield is a nice insurance as it will comfortably block the majority of attacks, and the mace does phenomenal damage so you only need to get a handful of hits in to take someone down. That, and his execution moves are just brutal!
Oh, and don't forget you can set up matches of any mode against AI Bots. Useful for learning all that before throwing yourself into online.
Thank you for your guidance, Paradigm! Oh that will make my evening much more varied. The more I explore it, the better put together this game gets.
Are samurai faster than everyone else, or do they just like running away? Vikings and knight will always fight me, but I seem to end up chasing about half the Samurai I encounter.
I have a feeling the Samurai are more fragile across the board, but their attack speeds are much higher. The basic Samurai can do a lot of damage very quickly, but doesn't like being hit back, so I imagine that's why they're running from you. If they get the drop, they can get a good 2 or 3 hits in before you've even got into a position to fight back, but defensively they're not so hot so running is their best option if they see you coming.
And the spear class, well that's just insane. Being fragile is all well and good, but when you can't get close enough hit the damn thing it's not much consolation. The only reliable way I've found of dealing with them is to attack from behind and get a couple of hits in before they can get their guard up, otherwise they're just too fast for me to deal with.
Been dueling since I downloaded it on Friday and I've gotta say, I'm not a fan of facing Samurai; their speed requires a great deal of timing if you're not also playing a samurai and forever reason they seem to deal just as much damage to my knight in two-three swings as my knight does to them - despite their being an obvious difference in weapons and fighting style.
Or I could just not be seeing it - I'm pretty bad.
As far as dueling does I've also decided that throws are remarkably strong - they're practically fight enders, even if you don't throw your opponent off a ledge.
As for the other game modes, is it any different than dueling? I mean, I get that there are control point maps and all that, but if dueling is this bad for me I can only imagine what it's like when I have to engage multiple players at once.
When you're outnumbered, the best plan is always to break off your current Lock-on and leg it. Nothing to say you 'can' win a fight against two enemies at once, but it'll require ridiculous reflexes, so you're almost always better disengaging. Not only does this leave you alive to fight another day, but also means at least 50% of the enemy team are in one place on the 4-player modes. If you're at point A and get mobbed by 3 opponent, that means their other control points are at best defended by one player, so head over to that and take them on 1v1.
As for facing Samurai, I'd say the Kensei is all right, but the Nobushi and Orochi are both bastards when it comes to duels, it is down to the speed. The best defence I've found is to dodge rather than block, then just wail on them when their stamina is down. That, or go for a knockdown or throw, those give you time to get a couple of hits in and with something like the Warden or Conqueror, that''s almost enough damage that you then just need to wait for an opening and get one more solid hit in. Light attacks are also handy for matching their speed, even though you trade damage.
In terms of Duel vs the Dominion mode with the control points, I at least find Duel to be the more tactical and slow-paced. In Dominion, you have to deal with 3 control points, a few dozen AI grunts (though they go down in one hit from anyone, and slaughtering them is rather fun) and of course 4 players. Again, if you're outnumbered, run, but similarly, partnering up with a teammate will help a lot, you're less likely to get outnumbered and against single opponents that do stay and fight, you should make short work of them so long as you remember to attack from a different facing and stance to your teammate. Personally, I prefer Duel, but I'd at least recommend giving Dominion a go at some point.
I think the Beta is down. I believe the game goes live tomorrow.
Played a bit yesterday and quite enjoyed it. It's novel and interesting, though I feel like a less realistic game in a unique universe would be more appealing. Fun game though; I'm not at all an online guy, but I might just have to pick this one up.
Maniac_nmt wrote: The Xbox servers seem to be down? I downloaded it and it kept coming back with errors when trying to play.
Open beta ended at 5pm EST yesterday.
It was down before that on the Xbox, it was off all day Sunday when I went to play. Bummer, as I wanted to try it out first. It looks good, but I'm not sure I want to spend the money without trying it out. Perhaps I'll rent it and see how it plays. A lot of other combat games of this sort have been very repetitive in the long run (Conan was fun but fell into the same button combo ad nauseum, as most melee games do).
Hmm, I was playing it yesterday in the UK, maybe it was just the US servers.
Final thoughts on the beta, though, really good fun. Hasn't put it on my list of stuff to buy on release (largely thanks to needing the funds for Andromeda next month) but definitely one I'll be keeping an eye on, if I see it in a sale for about £30 or so I'l definitely pick it up. Plenty of variety in how you can play it with the many modes and classes, good for just dipping into for a quick burst thanks to how brief some modes can be, technically and graphically it's top notch and most importantly, I really enjoyed it.
There's an argument that betas this close to release are really just disguise demos, but I'm fine with that, and it's done it's job in that somewhere down the line it's got a sale out of me, without the chance to get hands-on with it this weekend I'd not have given it a second thought.
It's a server load test. What they're checking is their ability to adjust server resources to meet fluctuating demand on the game so day 1 doesn't have the old "no one can log in" problem.
Now that the full game is out, has anyone started the story mode yet?
It's a decent story so far. One thing that's been grabbing my attention is that it almost feels like a 40k story. They keep making references to their forgotten past, using technologies they don't fully understand. They also seem determined that violence is the only solution they have left, piece a thing to be left behind. They're not identical, they just seem to run parallel on many themes. Or I'm seeing things.
I've started on the story, the Viking one is my favorite so far. Something about playing as a Valkyrie and running around stabbing Samurai screaming about maps made me giggle
I played around with the multiplayer a bit today. It's really fun but holy crap did I get gakked on. Went 2 and 3 in a brawl match, got absolutely creamed by a Berzerker
So Gitzbitah, we gonna have a new title for the thread?
And yeah, the free beta was awesome of Ubisoft.
I've played a little with most of the Knights and Vikings- didn't play any Warlord or Peacekeeper, but I haven't even touched the Samurai- just not interested in them, I guess. However, now that the BIG GUY is out, might work with him once I get the game proper.
Waiting on my Return this season, then I'm gonna get myself a new computer.
Love the Conqueror. Probably gonna play a lot with the Lawbringer- I have a heart-on for polearms and pollaxes in particular, but the flail/shield combo, and the way he plays, means that I think I'm gonna really enjoy the Conq. And from what I've seen, people haven't even scratched the surface of his tactical combat abilities, considering his ability to parry unblockables and the varieties of parry and bash attacks that the Full Guard stance opens up, which I've almost never seen streamers or 'tubers use, yet.
Good point, Anvildude!
I realized that this is one of those where I'm not the target audience, simply because our tv is centrally located, and it is a bit brutal for my boys to see. It's a shame, because it is a really well crafted game! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for skill based melee combat that also doesn't have to worry about young ones having nightmares.
This is to 3rd person beat em ups, like Dynasty Warrior, what Guilty Gear is to Street Fighter.
I think you can turn off the blood- though I don't know how that would help with the rest of the brutality, to be fair.
It's definitely a cool game. Apparently Newegg is doing a deal where they're giving away a copy of For Honor with certain NVidia products, which works out pretty perfectly for me.
Prestiged my Lawbringer and have almost done so with my Conqueror. Definitely my favorite classes. Lots of people gak on the Lawbringer but I'm really enjoying it and I can't even parry well
And are you talking about a combo set, or one of the skill things? (feats?)
Because I think a lot of the characters have those abilities as unlocks- the Warden has a lot of healing skills straight out the gate- his 1 is a heal when he kills Soldiers, his 3 is a self-based Healing Surge, and he can unlock a healing banner at later levels.
Conqueror can unlock a lot of similar abilities, as well as, I think, the Warlord.
I played it some over the weekend and it seems mediocre. The single player story is convoluted and poor. This feels a bit too fantasy/gamey in places and not enough in others.
Perhaps if I rent it and play it some more on my own, but dirty Vikings wearing horned hats and knights in plate that would poke their own eyes out just to be cool is a bit passe for me.
Ah, Usernamesareannoying, I just learned that! He'll flash white the first time he gets hit, and the attack will do very little damage and not interrupt things- lets you wind up a big hit and just ignore an enemy attack to let it go through. Mr.Fruit on Youtube explained it in a Shugoki video he did.

Very interesting! The Viking helmets are all wrong of course (but then, they always are) but I hadn't noticed the knights armor being too anachronistic, other than the perplexing amount of flesh the Conquerors are showing. They're exaggerated to be sure, but most seemed to have their roots in historical armors.
I'm enjoying it so far. The campaign was shorter than I'd prefer. But I'm having a blast with the Peacekeeper, and I've even started to get a tinge better at blocking!
I bounce between my warden and shoguki.
Im ok on block but man do i need work on parry and dodge.
It would be nice to be able to avoid a shield break every once in a while, lol.
Remember, War Kitten, that Peacemaker (and maybe the other Assassins?) don't block continuously like most classes do- they put their guard down after a bit, so you still need to be proactive at blocking.
Anvildude wrote: Remember, War Kitten, that Peacemaker (and maybe the other Assassins?) don't block continuously like most classes do- they put their guard down after a bit, so you still need to be proactive at blocking.
I'm aware. I've been relying more on dodges with the Peacekeeper, but I've been working on parrying and blocking now too with her
Irishpeacockz wrote: Suppose I consider Lawbringer my "main", tis just a pain to get the parries right, especially against quicker characters
Same here. I just don't parry. Still get a pretty good KDR. Lead with a sprint+heavy, follow with a light, heavy, heavy then flip them, light, heavy, heavy, dead. Throw off ledges as situation allows.
I like the look and weapon of the Lawbringer- don't know how much I'll like the playstyle, though. Still waiting on getting the game proper.
I do know I'm going to be doing more Conqueror play than I initially thought- I like the Defensive, patient playstyle he's got. Though I dislike the 'hat brim' helmets he seems to have- I hope they have more traditional sugarloaf and greathelm styles.
I've nicknamed the Conqueror "Coffee Table Head". She's great fun to play, and an interesting contrast to my more aggressive Peacekeeper play. I actually think Conqueror is a decent counter to those Assassin type characters. Charge up a heavy then switch the direction last second to punish them when they dart in
That and Full Guard, which I don't see used enough. Especially with that 3rd level's "Heal when you block" ability. I could see a 1v3 or 1v4 totally going the Conqueror's direction. Just imagining them at very low health, going Full Guard, and regaining all of it while getting Revenge.
I've become partial to the Valkyrie. Sometimes it feels like I'm doing so little damage with her attacks, but tripping people with her spear is hilarious. Plus her level 3 javelin feat does a really sweet amount of damage
Hi guys. Do any of you know what the point of the level on gear is?
Is a lvl 3 arm better for some reason than a lvl 1 etc?
I can understand choosing gear according to the stat changes but i don't see a reason for lvl.
Haven't played the full game yet, so not quite sure, but I think the Level is mostly a Rarity and Starting Quality thing- like, a Lvl3 cuirass would be harder to get than a lvl 1, and would start with better stats. But you could Upgrade that lvl 1 to a lvl 3, and I think the stats would end up being equivalent.
Been having some success with the Conqueror, people expect the dump truck maneuver, but they rarely seem to expect the charged heavy. Guess it's because most Conquerors spam the shield bash....

In theory higher rarity gear just means the bonuses and maluses are bigger.
In practice sufficiently high rarity gear have two bonuses and a single malus, making them objectively superior.
You start to get epic gear at prestige 3 at which point you really notice the difference.
I actually have it, but I know that my current computer struggles with it, and so I'm holding off until my new Motherboard comes in, so I can play it on my super-powerful brand-new computer.
Melissia wrote: I'm really looking forward to getting this. May be a while-- summer probably-- but man, the more I see it the more I want it.
It's a truly lovely game, but I find some irony in that I like the female only classes least.
Nobushi is a class designed to DoT you up from afar and then run away, which is not the most thematic gameplay IMO (and a particular disappointment as I am a huge fan of the onna bugeisha). Valkyrie is awesome and was my main at first but I really dislike the spear sweep move in general and especially how ludicrous the spear sweep combos are right now. Peacekeeper is just all round horrible to play against. What an utterly cancerous class. The only one I'd actually be happy to see removed entirely.
I found my love in a surprising corner; the Lawbringer. Hard to play, rewards skill heavily, and satisfies my heavy armour addiction. Him, and a Shugoki buddy I almost always play with, make for one mean tag team. Sure, a shove alone won't do much on you. Getting shoved into a hug, on the other hand?
There are some issues. Aside from the above mentioned, I think warden zone attack is too fast (it almost feels unblockable), the conqueror shield bash > attack > shield bash > attack > shield bash > attack > shield bash > attack combo is dodgeable but feels very cheap, and a couple of other things. Ultimately, though, this game is gold. Slightly unpolished gold, maybe even dented, but it is still gold. At its worst, the game is frustrating. But when it's good, it's so good it becomes all worth it. I will keep playing it and I don't see myself stopping soon!
But yes, Melissia, do send me a PM if you end up playing it (assuming you play PC).
It's "Honorable Play". Or, it might be. Are you talking about one-on-one, with the teammates watching you duel a single enemy? Or are they just letting all the enemies jump on you at once?
There's 2 sorts of 'playstyles' in the games without the mooks- "Honorable" and "Dishonorable". Honorable gameplay means that combat is a series of one-on-one duels, and anyone who doesn't have an opponent waits and watches for the duels to finish before fighting the enemy (if they were the winner).
Dishonorable means that you're all about winning, and will gang up on other enemies if you manage to defeat your foe (or escape them, even). It's safer, but a lot of people get salty about it.
Or it might be connection issues, though the game's usually pretty good about notifying you about those.
Also, I GOT THE GAME! Finally managed to redeem my code, so I'll probably be playing it tomorrow a whole lot.
http://steamcommunity.com/id/Ashiraya/ is my steam. I generally find steam more convenient to communicate in-game as uplay is wonky and the game chat is only present when in actual matches.
I tend to play FH later in the night, which should work well time zone-wise.
Huh. Doesn't sound like a disconnect issue- for all that the Ubisoft servers and matchmaking is buggy, they're at least pretty good about replacing AFK or disconnected players with Bots.
It's not disconnect issues either like you mentioned. The character will just stand at the starting point and never move. I've even hit them and nothing. Also a new thing is I've seen them running in circles at the starting point. Never fighting. Also I apologize, it's in player vs AI games. Not PvP.
I love For Honor and I will certainly not stop playing it but Ubi really needs to sort out their broken ass game.
I and a friend played 7 dominions in a row in which I just needed one more revive for a quest, but each one of them saw me errored out for various amusing reasons such as random FPS drops (and then kicking me for said low FPS, which is pretty insulting) or connection losses.
The connection issues are pretty shockingly bad. I just picked up the full game last week and have been playing the hell of it of it (probably my second favourite multiplayer game after Battlefield One), but it is continually frustrating to have games just drop half way through or somehow end up as the sole human player among 7 bots between Elimination rounds ect...
agreed paradigm...
i tried to get in a game of pvp dominion for no less than 20 minutes yesterday.
that was a combination of drops at matchmaking and drops immediately after getting in a game.
i hope that they're still working on the issue and don't consider the current state of affairs as acceptable.
I'll look it up. Might be able to catch you sometime.
Also, what general levels are you guys? Because I can't seem to get PvP going- I can do multiplayer PvE just fine, often with a nice quick matchmaking time, but I can't seem to get into PvP.
Do you have to finish the singleplayer campaign before doing PvP or something?
ah, lol ai is always easier to get into because you only need half as many players.
i love elimination against the AI as i can play it all day with no fear of getting kicked off due to not enough players.
ive started that mode with 3 human team mates and ended tons of games later with just me and 3 bots vs the other team of 4 bots.
dual vs ai is fun too as you can just play a bunch of games endlessly but i wish the rewards were a little better.
as to your original question i dont remember having to do anything special to get human vs human going other than that one "beat the captain" mission that you have to do before joining multiplayer.
You can also have fun fights against AI as compared to human players. The AI doesn't typically spam bulls*** combos or throw you into endless vortices of pain
War Kitten wrote: You can also have fun fights against AI as compared to human players. The AI doesn't typically spam bulls*** combos or throw you into endless vortices of pain
That may be because the AI is pretty dumb. I may struggle to deal with the warden vortex or PK light spam, but defeating AI by throwing them off edges is hilariously easy since they have no environmental awareness. There's no satisfaction in it.
It's all about AI level, yeah. I've had really nice duels against some of them.
What's annoying is that some of the AI have NO HONOR, and will just jump into a fight.
I actually think they've got 'personalities' programmed into them, maybe concurrent with their names. 'cause I've definitely run into bots that prefer one style of play over another, or who are more or less aggressive.

Anyone know when the DLC characters are going to drop? I'm super pumped for the Centurion.
Also, weirdly enough, a few days ago I got a bunch of color schemes and symbols for my characters because I pre-ordered the game. Shouldn't I have had those from the beginning?
I think, if they can get their connectivity issues solved and the game continues to grow/be profitable, they ought to bring in entire new factions. I'd love to see Indian, African and American factions. Could you imagine how cool a Jaguar Warrior would be? Or an Indian Cataphract or Punjab warrior, wielding an Urumi or Pata? Or any of the crazy African tribal weapons and warriors? Could be very interesting.
if it turns into a straight up fighting game with no backstory then it would be easy but i dont know how you can introduce new factions like that with the story line set such as it is.
Thats what I thought. I haven't played the storyline, yet, so I don't know about the whole thing. But I mean, the worlds geography is already all sorts of messed up what with Samurai hanging around.
they patched recently.
i have a little bit of a harder time getting in a game but it seems like once im in im in for good.
i didnt have any lag or kicks at all.
i also like that they changed the order system up so that all orders can be done vs the AI.
yeah, we took a spanking... shame.
lets chalk it up to opening season learning curve and hit em hard second season.
i know it took me a while to figure out the war assets etc...
any idea what the rewards were for winning a season?
is there anything stopping people from just leaving the losing faction and jumping on a winning one right before the season ends? i kind of hate this possibility.
while i enjoy poking around with the vikings and samurai theres a reason that my 4 knights are the only heroes that i have over prestige level 2 and 3

As a Knight I got an emblem outline and some scavenger crates. Vikings got a bunch of exclusive ornaments. As for changing factions, if you read what it says when you go to change, changing your faction in any round of a season other than the first results in the forfeiture of all season winnings (and the current round as well I believe)
Please don't. That's exactly the sort of thing that ruins faction play, since it almost guarantees incredible imbalance.
Look, there's going to be more seasons, more players, all that good stuff. People will get better at the game (you, me, all us Dakkaites who're Knights) and thus help swing things back. And people will understand the War Assets thing better.
But swapping means Knights then have even less of a chance, and that's not good. It just exacerbates the situation we already had.

I'm not actually going to. I'm just admitting that I was tempted to do so
The cost in steel of the new characters (15000, I read) is actually really annoying me. As a casual player who dips in and out of the game, it'll be months before I ever amass that much, and that's if I don't buy any weapon packs or anything for the existing classes. Yes, I could buy a Steel pack in the store to spend on them (no idea how much that'd be) but it kind of rubs me the wrong way that to actually access 'free' new content I need to either buy microtransactions or grind like hell.
I'd much rather they were just paid DLC where I pay X amount to unlock the character; same end result, but much more upfront about it.
War Kitten wrote: I splurged on the season pass a while back, but I've seen all his new emotes and executions. I'm saving for those.
Seriously though, 15k is so stupid. Unlocking EVERY other hero (bar the new Shinobi) costs nowhere near that much combined
Welcome to the complaints Rainbow Six: Siege players had.
The DLC characters were 22k or 25k Renown. Most MP matches averaged out to around ~200ish Renown. You had to play Terrorist Hunt(v. AI) modes at a higher difficulty, early on, to match that amount.
And that's not even getting into the stupid high prices of the few cosmetic items(helmets and now uniforms) that were available early on when they started doing that.

At least they give the option of grinding the steel yourself if you prefer that.
Yeah, they've never been shy about saying that the monetary transactions were about giving people a 'skip' if they didn't want to or weren't able to spend the time to grind. As long as things are available via gameplay, I don't care if they have longer grinds or money-based alternatives.
I'm still having huge trouble getting into PvP matches on my own, though. Like, I can do multiplayer PvAI matches okay, get into games with other players, but the only time I've managed to get into a PvP game was when I was playing in a group with Ashiraya.

I wouldn't really call it an "option" when it requires at least double digit multiples of the currency needed for the "standard" characters.

I am not sure why you compare their steel costs to the costs of the default characters.
The default characters are all unlocked from the get go. You have to pay 500 something steel to unlock customization, but doing so is not necessary to play the actual character to your heart's content - especially since gear does not actually matter at all in 1v1 and 2v2 (which are also the most balanced game modes - in 4v4 ganking is a much bigger factor than gear anyway).
The new characters, as I've understood it, need unlocking to actually play, not just customize, which explains the much higher price. Still, 15k is not at all insurmountable. I could spare the steel to buy the knight mythic outfit for - you guessed it - 15k steel, even among all the other things I have bought like emotes and executions, and I am not even close to hardcore.

Could it be something with your connection? I've never heard of an issue like this. Contact customer support?
I may have to. That whole "NET connection" thing (or whatever it's called) is just... odd. What seems to be happening is that the game is trying to host a game on MY PC instead of looking for games to join, and since I'm only a "Medium" NET connectivity setup, it's not directing anyone towards me?
I just don't know.
But also, yeah. 15000 steel is NOTHING. I've almost got that, and I'm not even Prestiged with any of the heroes.
I do like how the amount of steel you get per daily order got increased and that you can now do any challenge versus players or AI. Makes some of these orders much easier to get
The new classes actually seem somewhat balanced, at least after a night of fighting them. I need to get used to dodging their kicks, the timing on the ranged counter guard break is a bit wonky and they both have some vicious damage combos but it should be manageable.
15000, ugh. of course right after i buy an mythic outfit for my conqueror... =/ on a side note... i swear i cant get the timing down on counter guardbreak. it drive me crazy how some classes can spam it reliably and i get stuck in that loop...
Yeah, practice until you can counter guard break reliably, otherwise you will be easy prey.
Fortunately steel is plentiful. I got mythic outfit, enough steel to max my gear, and will probably be able to buy the centurion when he's out for non-season pass players next week as well.
The new classes are great. The Shinobi is capable of putting out TONS of damage, but he has so little health that its fair.
The Centurion is just fun to play. He's pretty much just a brawler, and all of his mix ups just flow naturally, and he can do tons of damage and open up turtles. I was slightly disappointed by how squishy he feels at times, but I ultimately think he's pretty balanced

Centurian makes turtles a joke. I spectated a 1v1 where a Centurian kept a Warden without stamina for most of the fight.
As far as Shinobi goes, I think he's a lot of risk/reward gameplay. Get countered on that ranged guard break and you can get one-shot by certain characters (looking at you Shugoki).
In other news, Raider's buff was pretty nice. I now keep accidentally cancelling my zone attack into a stunning tap, but somehow its working out for me. The stampede charge draining the enemy's stamina while they're being held, plus damaging them with the knee to the face is a nice little buff as well
hey, do you guys know what level you can start getting the different tiers of armor at?
i got gold on my lawbringer but he is prestige 5.
i have a prestige 2 congueror in all purple but i haven't gotten a gold yet even using a scavenge crate.

If I recall golds have a chance to appear after prestige 3, the new gear is prestige 7 I believe. I might be wrong though
So having just bought this on xbone (insert excuse), do you have to have the correct direction on a parry or can you parry from anywhere as long as you get the timing?
I also find myself playing "sword" and board in a video game again, maybe I am that boring.
Centurion and Shinobi are now out for everybody. I played the whole afternoon with my usual friend and frankly I think I am taking a break from the game now. Centurion is bonkers OP and while only really the kick is OP for shinobi (who got the idea to make it faster than any light attack in the game, -and- give it hyper armor?) we still faced literally nothing else but those two heroes all afternoon and it is flat out not the game I want to play.
Until they give the shinobi kick and the centurion... well, a lot of him big nerfs, I am off.
Which hurts to say because I love this game to bits otherwise. I stuck through with Lawbringer from the very beginning even though he was bad but I have my limits.
They really need to put in hero limits or something like that. I got ganked by 4 Centurions today and got pinned into a corner and stabbed repeatedly. I can deal with 1 Centurion, but 4? No.
I personally don't find any fun in fighting the AI and I haven't done so since the campaign. It's like a whole different game really. Things like feinting into guard break often works on people but never works on a bot unless they were programmed to fail a guard break anyway.
I honestly sometimes prefer to fight the bots. I can actually practice chains and combos against them without risking getting ganked by 3 Shinobis and a Peacekeeper
I tried something different today. I dueled my usual FH friend for an hour or two, but to spice things up we set it to single round, low damage, no gear or revenge, and the UI completely disabled.
The result was very fun. No health bars so you couldn't be sure who was ahead, no stamina bar so you had to estimate whether throwing or just doing gb>heavy is better (but poor shugoki, at least three times he missed a hug due to having just thrown me prone) and no guard indicators made parrying a challenge.
hey guys, do any of you know why as a centurion sometimes i knock people down and sometimes i dont when doing the special uppercut move after landing a heavy attack?
does it have something to do with their stamina?
i thought i recall knocking guys down with stamina on their bar but i cant be sure.
After some time I have come to the conclusion that I despise the Shinobi. As a Conqueror main the sheer number of ways the Shinobi has to feth me over is unbelievably painful
I play on a PS4. Having said that is anyone having connection issues. Season one I had a little. Season 2 it was rare for me. Ever since season 3 started it's been bad. Half my attempts to start a match fail.
I am 450+ hours in and I am not even close to tired. Lowering my settings a bit to increase FPS made light parrying easier and did not impact the game's appearance as much as I expected.
The game is not free of issues but the fighting system is so good it feels downright difficult to go back to simpler games.
The halloween event is also almost over. Better grab the howl at the moon emote and the mask outfits before they're gone!
I see you every so often. I don't jump on as often (though I still enjoy the heck out of it) because I don't seem to matchmake properly. Takes me upwards of 30 minutes per. I'm curious if it's because I'm so under-leveld compared to the average player, now, or if it's because I haven't finished the Singleplayer yet.
I wish I could do more Duel and Skirmish matches- the presence of minions and objective points, while very good for interesting tactical group combat, takes away, I think, from the joy of the sheer visceral one-on-one the game is built for.
Skirmish and elimination seems mostly dead on PC. When I get orders for them I just do matches vs AI with matchmaking off.
Dominion, duel, brawl and endless march seem to have fully acceptable queue times of a couple minutes at most, though. Curious that it would take you so long.
Anvildude wrote: How... magick-y is the Shaman? I mean, I'll see it soon enough, but I'm just curious.
Not very. She's just an insane berserker type character. She's basically berserker 2.0 in all honesty.
Except, unlike berserker, she is also insanely overpowered. To put it in warhammer terms, being a shaman player vs a kensei is like being that guy who brought revenant titans against a foot CSM player back in 6th.
I can imagine she's fun to play (as noted above) due to how she has basically everything. She has fast double lights, she has good heavy attacks soft feintable into a bleed stab from any direction (whereas peacekeeper's bleed stab soft feint can only be done in the direction of the original attack and also does 15 damage against shaman's 25), she has 500ms dodges in all directions (the best in the game), she can cancel just about everything into everything else making her mixup game completely nuts, oh and her pounce attack is a faster and feintable version of the warlord's headbutt (which was already one of the best openers in the game) with better range and that gives a shaman double light instead of warlord's measly 10 damage poke. Said pounce has broken tracking (you can often flawlessly dodge it only to have the shaman turn 90 degrees in mid air and have it hit you anyway) and if you happen to be bleeding the pounce will stunlock you and do a monstrous 50 damage, while also healing the shaman for 20 and restore all her stamina. (To put in perspective, imagine if shugoki's hug was 3 times faster, had better range, was feintable and did not hurt shugoki if it misses...) She also has great dodge attacks (considered as heavy attacks for some reason despite their speed making them less punishable than other dodge attacks for everyone but peacekeeper), including a lightning fast front dodge attack that can come from any attack direction and can be canceled into a pounce or vice versa. Even if she misses a pounce she can cancel her recovery into another pounce. She also has one of the best OOS punishes in the game (70) thanks to her unblockable left finisher (why the hell does she have an unblockable finisher?)
Oh, and if the opponent is bleeding she also heals on every hit. That's a level 4 feat for other heroes (shinobi) but it's baseline for shaman because that's fair.
Simply put, she is utterly cancerous beyond what even centurion was on release and the salt she gets is 100% deserved.
In case you doubt me, here is a fun example (and there are tons more).
Okay, if you have attack speed, you don't get unblockables. If you have recovery, you don't get dodge speed. If you have heavy damage, you don't get attack speed.
Just... I mean, I know why they've done this- it's a new character, and so they're looking for the early-adopters to shell out for the pass before they nerf her down, but seriously.
Her pounce also wallsplats giving you a heavy attack instead of a double light.
Seriously, they removed wallsplat from centurion punches for a fething reason...
Automatically Appended Next Post: On the bright side bots are now smarter. AI matches offer more challenge (though counter guard break is still not their strong suit) and having teammates quit is no longer the certain doom it once was.
I am bringing out my lawbringer again. There's so many shaman running around used to just rolling over everyone that they don't know how to deal with the shove mixup.
Still, I hope to the gods that they nerf her soon...
She does seem more tanky than my previous main, the highlander. I only tend to play bots but yeah its pretty insane the damage I can manage to inflict with her being that shes an assassin class.
Dedicated servers are here! The 8-day beta testing period has begun, and for the duration of the public beta the game is free to play for everyone. Come on in!
Gonna have to see if I can actually get matches, now. I might just be too low a level. If that's the case, I thnk I'll go through the singleplayer finally.
Ah. Did not know that. That's pretty neat, actually.
It's a pity it took this long for dedicated servers. Had they delayed the release by, oh, 2 or 3 months in order to add that (or just overhaul the whole multiplayer system) this game would have completely destroyed the fighting game market, I bet.
I gotta hand it to Ubisoft- they seem to be trying to make For Honor into what it could/should/might have been and are just improving and refining it. The multiplayer now has more strategic elements, they've continued to balance heroes, they've added the dedicated servers...
This game seems much less popular in the US, judging from matchmaking.
When I go search at peak hours (IE about at the time of this post, or a bit earlier) matchmaking is often near instant.
When I try to search much later, say at 2AM (8pm EST), matchmaking feels nearly dead, with me facing the same players over and over and matchmaking being lengthy.
Dominion and tribute says 'very high activity' all the time, in my experience.
Also, I don't know. You can obviously only play when you play. You should join your faction's discord and see if you find anyone to party up with. That is sure to reduce queue times, especially if you find a full party.
There's not 'a' discord. Well, there is one general FH subreddit discord but I expect that one to be so overpopulated there won't be much sense going on. https://discord.gg/forhonor
There's also faction specific ones, and I am in the viking ones. The link to them is https://www.reddit.com/r/forhonorvikings/ (replace vikings with knights or samurai as appropriate).
I just... The connection issues I have. I gotta play the singleplayer, see if it's an issue with it considering me too 'low ranked' to matchmake properly.
I am very, very happy that they're adding factions. I'm curious how it's going to affect the balance of the campaign, but more than that, I'm looking forwards to eventually seeing Vedic or Rajput orotherwise Indian subcontinent warriors. Someone with a Pata, someone with one of those whippy swords...
