Hello Everyone
So I've decided to set myself a long term project and I would like the communities help.
The short version is:
I'm going to paint every space marine chapter.
Now to clarify. I'm going to use this image as my reference for "Every Space Marine Chapter" as there are 1000 and that would take some time
http://images.dakkadakka.com/s/i/gallery/img/2010/1/10/75422.jpg
If you'd like to chat to me directly and keep track of progress then join my Discord Server: https://discord.gg/x5s42yp
How can the community help?
Below is the list of Chapters. What I'd like you to do is to sponsor a Space Marine.
Private Message me on which one you'd like to sponsor and do the following:
- Tell me about this Space Marine; His Name & Background
- What type of base should he be on?
- Does the armour have any battle scars?
Once I have that info I’ll take him as Sponsored and once he's finished I’ll let you know.
It’ll be on a first come first served basis.
Also I’m going to limit it to one per person. Once I’ve finished yours you’re free to pick another
Why are you doing this?
Good question.
I’m doing this to interact more with Dakka. I’m a lurker by nature and I wanna make some new friends along the way.
I also wanna improve my skills and I think by doing this challenge they’ll increase.
How long will it take?
In general I’m going to try and do at least one Marine per weekend. I’ll attempt to do three. I think the whole challenge will take between 12 and 18 months to complete in total.
Can I have it once you’re finished?
If you really like how your Marine came out and you’re willing to pay for the postage then I don't see why not. I may have to do two of it though so I can keep one too
What are the chapters?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Brother Sergeant Alcuin." The Inquisitor's voice was low and dry and devoid of victory.
"My Lord Inquisitor" the Sergeant snapped to attention.
The man he saw exiting the antechamber in the heart of this crone-world looked ashen and at least a decade older than when he had entered it.
"You may enter and record as you wish." The man sighed taking in the grim carnage of their surroundings, and added "Emperor knows the Mentors have paid dearly enough for it."
The Astartes sergeant ducked inside the archway without comment and passed on into the torchlit antechamber. An inquisitorial attaché within was still busy making measurements, recording minutiae, cataloguing each bah-relief and inscription. Alcuin deployed a pair of small recording devices on opposite walls before continuing down into the main chamber.
His hearts beat steadily in tandem despite the deepening sense of wonder that had been growing in his gut since they had first entered this subterranean temple. That such fathomless places were his to unveil; it had never ceased to move him. Yet still, for all his wealth of experience, his centuries of research and discovery, these Xenos remained an impenetrable mystery.
Brother Alcuin stood staring into the eyes of a crystal-seer. Long transfigured into a perfect crystalline image in death as he was in life. Here he had stood timelessly frozen yet baring the weight of each and every year, millennially ancient beyond reckoning.
Sensors in Alcuin's helm were scanning every feature of the seer's face, cross referencing with the database of every eldar artefact, image and known personality the Mentors chapter had on record. No match. Illusive as ever, he cursed them.
A man bustling around his feet broke Alcuin's reverie. Unapologetic he continued his work, busily deploying thermodynamic charges. A preponderance of explosives littered the chamber. Another temple, another tomb, another library, another world, consigned to oblivion by the hand of the imperium.
Alcuin scanned the rest of the room with his auspex while another set of recorders gleaned the final remnants of the Eldar's fading glory before it was too late.
There was no more to find here, no more to know. He collected his recorders as he returned to the rest of his squad, those of his battle brothers who remained.
As he ascended the recorded files were logged and stored in his own memory and doubly backed up to a pair of external drives recessed into his left vambrace. He retrieved two small data fingers and handing one to the Inquisitor deposited the second in a reinforced ceramite canister. He secured and encrypted the lock and placed the canister in the breach of his grenade launcher. The Inquisitor made nothing of the precaution but simply gave his man his assent. The charges below were set.
"Brother Sergeant Alcuin," the Inquisitor announced. "We are done here, you have my thanks."
Alcuin's response, the sign of the Aquila.
Together with the Inquisitor's company they retraced the way back through the dead and the dying. Men were treated or dispatched, equipment and ammunition retrieved, gene-seed recovered, all in silence.
Above and beyond the confines of this catacomb where all was utter chaos, the world burned; and the galaxy beyond. Escape was by no means assured.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Brother Sergeant Alcuin of the Mentors Chapter. (Probable primogenitor- Indiana Jones)
Armour- He's a Sergeant but he's waring a helm and no back banner. (He's underground in the story and probably about nine feet tall as is.)
Equipment- Combi-Bolter-grenade launcher. Auspex.
Base- Subterranean Eldar temple.

Wait, does that say Imperial HATbringers? Like do they guard Commisar headgear shipments?
Oh, no it doesn't.
Oh, ok I claim: SCYTHES of the EMPEROR!
I just wanna make you paint the little crossed scythes on him.
Really though, gotta give them props for facing the Tyranid Hive fleet back in 1990.
This honor absolutely requires you to do a bit of conversion.
SO:
Brother Marlboro.
Assault Marine: Special Weapon.
Bolt Pistol and Hand Flamer.
Probably carries a spare Flamer fuel can.
Armor is badly rent and part has acid melt damage...
OR he has been captured and partly cocooned.
(Think of it as a war memorial.)
Base: Tyranid Hive Ship.
Yussssss!
Respect to you, Astro Wolf.

Well done with the LOTD. I bet the flame effect would be great on the tabletop. And on the subject of claiming, I would like to claim the Imperial Fists, in the name of Dorn himself! Name: Kyerus Obsidio Weapon: Good old ornate Bolter. Battle damage: Fairly beaten and scratched, look like he's advancing through a breached city. Base: Somewhat standard city base, taking aim behind a broken wall/barricade, same reason as above. Kyerus excels at what his chapter does best. He has extensive knowledge on how his weapon most efficiently carries out the Emperor's duties, and prefers to take his trusty Bolter over the more intense brawls in close combat. He was like this ever since he was a Scout, due to his roots being from a hunting family, though his more thought out, methodical approaches to warfare often leave him susceptible to overwhelming assaults. Either way, being part of both Tactical and Devastator squads in his time, have lead him to be a well respected member of the 5th Company of the Imperial Fists.

Since the 13th black crusade technically is underway, Relictors being renegades is not a thing 'yet' and may never be.

Finally able to do a bit of fluff for my Ultramarine:
Name: Falax Orestes
Ranking: Battle Brother, Third Tactical Squad, Ultramarines 2nd Company
Armour and wargear: Bolter, Gladius (either in hand or holstered)
Generally Mark VII power armour, helmeted. A Marksman's Honour badge (bullet hanging off of a gauntlet, gun, or shoulder pad), and some general wear-and-tear on the armour and paint scheme.
Background: Falax Orestes, a newly promoted Battle Brother into the 3rd Tactical Squad, 2nd Company of the Ultramarines Chapter, was deployed as part of Strikeforce Praetoria to participate in the Charadon Crusade, dubbed the Crusade of Fury. Unfortunately, during the closing stages of the campaign, the entire Ultramarine taskforce was lost, including their Acting-Captain, betrayed by other Imperial forces. When the Chaos and Ork forces on world had been overcome, and the victorious faction of Imperials had left the planet behind, few still stirred. One such was Brother Orestes. Wounded by the initial bombardment, he was spared the same fate as his brothers by healing in a bunker. As such, Orestes is not aware of the betrayal of his brothers, and assumes them all to have returned to Macragge without him. Wielding only a bolter and gladius, he made his way off world in a ruined Arvus lighter. His current whereabouts are undetermined.
Base: Stirred up earth, akin to WW1 No-Man's-Land. (On the off chance you put a remnant of an enemy, Orks or Iron Warriors would do fine? Of course, only if you do, which you don't have to!)

Now, the Ultramarines being the standard codex adherants that they are, i'm sure Falax Orestes can be assumed to have all the standard markings and colours on his armour due his particular position. And so if you wouldn't mind I'd be interested to know exactly what we should expect Falax Orestes' armour to look like. Colours, markings, insignia, the works. It's all rigorously codified if I'm not mistaken.

And so if you wouldn't mind I'd be interested to know exactly what we should expect Falax Orestes' armour to look like. Colours, markings, insignia, the works. It's all rigorously codified if I'm not mistaken.
Yeah, albeit with chipping and scratching in places.
Orestes would have blue armour overall. Golden trims and aquila, for 2nd Company. White Ultramarine logo on shoulder pad, as standard. The other shoulder pad would have a white Tactical arrow on it, with the roman initial for 3 (III) in black imposed over the arrow, if possible, to signify the 3rd Tactical Squad of the Company. The III symbol may also appear in white on the kneepad, if unable to be placed on the shoulder pad.

I've not had much luck with transfers if I'm honest but it'll be a good time to learn

What transfers come in the tactical squad box set these days?
I have a bunch of old space marine transfer sheets if you had any use for them.
Never liked them much myself, prefer to free-hand it but its not always worth the effort for the often sub-par result and honestly so much easier just to use a transfer if you have one. But hey, isn't stretching your skills part of what this whole shindig is about?

Indrek Boreil of the Bloody Magpies.
Veteran Tactical Sergeant
Taking an awesome pose at all times, something akin to this:
Foot up, fancy gun held out shooting, sword arm outstretched towards the floor.
He has a power sword 'gifted' to the chapter buy the ultramarines (so preferably one of the swords off the upgrade sprue) and a plasma gun also 'gifted' by the blood angels. Also If you could have his raised leg on a pile of helmets from other chapters ('gifted' of course) that would be cool.
Rumour has it that he looted his weapons off of dead allies, and that that was what earned his promotion. But that's preposterous, the weapons were given freely by other chapters to him because they we so impressed with his performance, and his exceptional prowess in battle is why he was promoted. DEFINITELY.
Paint in the usual colours (except for the weapons) and have a white veteran helmet with a red laurel if possible, with little to no weathering except for mud on his boots, on a base like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=na26t36C7X4&index=2&list=PLiJtsRTurhod4_XvfuoKEIvvRaYrqdHnn

I'll try my best to emulate what's here but I've never modified a model like that.
As for the specifics I may not have enough models to justify the pile of helmets. I do however have a pile of skulls on order.
Power sword shouldn't be an issue but you may have to settle for for a plasma pistol
Again I'll try to accommodate you as best I can

I'd complain that there's no Guardians of the Covenant on your list, but to really pull them off you need the red robes and I don't expect you to buy a DA vet box just for them or doing some crazy greenstuff work.

Crimson Fists
Brother Miguel
A survivor of the disaster on Rynn. Although a long serving member of the chapter, he refuses any advancement along the chain of command as penance for his perceived failure to protect Rynn from the Ork invasion. He still carries a battle scar on his helmet and bolter as a reminder of those bitter days. He is currently helping to rebuild the chapter, finding new worlds from which to recruit. He can currently be found in verdant fields, pushing the next generation of the chapter to ever greater feats of stamina and skill.

This is a more extensive version of my Space Marine project:
https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/718535.page
I'm still working on the Space Wolves (haven't been very inspired to finish them). My goal was to have 1 Tactical Marine from each Chapter that has rules in a Codex (non- FW) plus 1 "special" Marine for each. Bikers for White Scars & Ravenwing, Assault Marines for BAs and Ravenguard, fore example.

How is the project coming along paul? I hope you enjoyed your birthday

Project is coming along.
Stumbling block at the moment is myself.
No one on here knows me but i suffer from some mental health issues that can lead to depression and anxiety.
One of the things that happens before i have a period of that is lack of motivation and lack of energy.
I do intend to complete the project but with my head the way it is at the moment i need to focus what energy i have in getting better first.
Another problem i have which might be linked to whats above is ups and down in skill level.
Maybe its just my own tendancies to see fault in everything i do (another symptom of my depression) but the few models i have been working on i just cant seem to get them up to the same standard of these others. Which is a vicious cycle of feeding into the problems i have.
Fear not though, when it passes i'll still be working on it.

Hope you're feeling better soon

I can entirely empathize.. I, too, have those fits of depression and anxiety, and the grand lack of motivation around those moments. We are all our own worst critic, I know it certainly doesn't help when I've posted something and it goes weeks with no commentary.
Your skill level is good, you're doing awesome work. That, and it's a hell of a self-challenge to do all this work.

I think i might break up the project a little.
I have a Tau XV88 on my table that needs painting.

Sure thing mate. Its hard to keep at one thing and stay motivated. My attempt at painting my stupidly inumerable Goblin army is entering the third year of the sentence. Almost entirely because I've been procrastinating hard and keeping at least three projects on the go at the same time.
If you really want a break from the marines pick up something totally different. I found that painting my 6mm scale aircraft was such a welcome change. It was so refreshingly different it even enabled me to look at another goblin again!

Hail Brother Astro Wolf!
I haven't checked in to DAKKA for a while, but wanted to see how you're doing. The guys done so far look great!
Man, I'm sure a lot of us have periodic apathy & depression. When I get that way recently, I have a new therapy I try. I get in my car, drive to a slightly secluded spot, park, and then yell:
"CREEEEEEEEED!"
Please note though, in this project so far, you have completed painting 300% as many Space Marines than I have in the last 30 years. (Omg) XD
I usually feel my artwork is not up to my own standards. Bah. I try to remember that I get better with practice. When I go look at a book of the collected work of some cartoon strip artist I like, I can see the art style change drastically and gain sharp focus, just over the course of the first volume. Not being preachy, this is really a thing I do occasionally to help my moodiness.
I hope you don't feel *too* much obligation to us, but now you have fans rooting for you! Think how awesome You will feel to complete this collection and display the Marines en masse! Even getting ten chapters represented will look awesome, and the awesomeness only scales up from there!
Anyway, happy recent birthday, and happy painting!

I think you're doing a great job dude. Still way better than I can do right now!
You do what you need to to make yourself happy man!

Hi Guys
Just wanted to report that i am painting again.
I've had a rough time lately with my Mental Health and some things going on in my life.
Main thing is that i recently lost my job so that hasnt helped.
However i was able to recently pick up a paint a marine for the first time in a few months so its a big step for me.
I'll be taking some better pictures tomorrow and posting them up.
Cheers
