Anyone get one yet? I bought mine this morning, Ive heard of people having difficulties buying one without a preorder but I had no issue. I called a toys are us and they said they have 35 coming on their shipment for this morning. So I braved the cold and waited in line for an hour and walked away with mine. They sold out of those 35 shortly after I left though, the line was big behind me.

Im not allowed to play it until my wife gets home tonight, we bought snipper clips and Zelda. I can talk about how the system feels and runs though. Im really impressed with how the joycons feel in my hands. I have large broad hands and even though the controllers are small they feel very comfortable. Especially in the holder that comes with the system for the joycons. Ive read people regretted buying the pro controller because of how comfy the joycons are and I see why, easily one of the most comfy controllers I've held.

Well I dont have much else yet other than the OS looks nice and runs smooth, the system update took only a few seconds to install (I think my ps4 took an hourish) and syncing my nintendo account was a breeze. So cmon Nintendo fans whatcha think? And what games are you excited for?

There is a switch in the house but I can't touch it yet. My wife got for my birthday so it is just sitting there until next Sunday. Will download Zelda and Snipperclips. I haven't owned a Nintendo console since the gamecube so I am really looking forward to spending some time with it.

I have one. I like it so far but wish I got a pro controller. For short periods the Joy Cons work fine but if playing for a bit and not a micro human it can get annoying as buttons and control sticks are quite small. Playing Zelda I would occasionally hit the wrong button without trying because my hands are to big for it. I did get the charger controller for the Joy Cons as I think it is silly that the only way to charge them is attached to the system while it is docked.

Game wise I have Zelda: BotW and want to finally get Shovel Knight for it. Upcoming games I am looking forward to are Dragon Quest Heroes I&II, Dragon Quest XI, and Blaster Master Zero. There is a fighting game coming for it that reminds me of Neo Geo Pocket fighters called Pocket Rumble that looks cool as well as what appears to be a fantasy version of Advanced Wars called WarGroove.

I did not pre-order so when will I get one? If it's like the original Wii ... maybe in a year if I have a friend working in retail? Yes, thanks to a friend working at the local Target I was able to get a Wii over one year after launch. How about one of those Mini NES Classics? Ah right, still sold out everywhere - despite Reggie's claim that supply was no longer an issue (statmemt almost two months old now ...). Thanks Nintendo, you fething douchebag of a company! And the Switch - 2 million units worldwide at launch. Take a look at ebay if you think that was even close to adequate.

I haven't been able to find a pro controller anywhere and I am not paying ebay prices for it. I was never able to get a mini NES either. Nintendo has been really bad about making enough. I can't tell if they are just horrible at logistics or creating artificial scarcity to raise to demand but I would guess it might be a bit of both.

Not touching this. I have a Wii U, and I think that Switch is a big step backward. All I wanted was a standalone Wii U Gamepad that I could take on the road without a base station.

Instead, Nintendo makes a bizarro gamepad with bad ergonomics and horrible controllers.

Hard pass.

Same here .. I want to like it, but I find the whole "switch" idea to just be silly. I think they were on the right track with Wii U, but missed the mark with this one.

Switch will do fine but not great.

Nintendo is one of the few company's the encourage friends and real life interactment. Others like ps4 and Xbox 1 makes you anti social. Want to play a game ok you go home and go on the net and find me.

Where as Nintendo encourages you to interact with real people. So amoung so called gamers it will be bad. But those who enjoy playing with family and friends will always get it. Mario 4 player was amazing on wiiu and wii.

It's mediocrity from Nintendo again. This'll do exactly the same as the Wii U and bomb or... end up like all the Wii's, people own it but... don't really do anything with the thing.

Nintendo's games are usually a lot of fun. But when your new console can't even run your own 1st party game at a stable framerate of 30... Oh boy. (Seriously, I get barfy when games run choppy. I'm not talking like 60 fps or anything, just a stable constant fps.)

Wish Nintendo would just focus on games and actual handhelds. Not the switch that doesn't really know if it's a console or a handheld.

On top of that the only real launch tittle is Zelda. (Apart from the indies and the two games that kind just... well are there to show off what you could do with the Switch.) And they said the Mario Kart port and the new Mario were done... but missing from the launch. They are coming in the summer and by the end of the year.

Don't see this ending up as a success for Nintendo.

On top of that it's impossible to get one in retail, whilst they said there wouldn't be any problems. Hell, it's known they have loads of them in storage, but aren't distributing them... like every single Nintendo release.

There is a weird hatred for Nintendo in here.
To start with sales. The switch sold twice as many as wiiu in its first weekend in the UK It is the most successful Nintendo console launch ever in the US and it matched the Ps4 launch in Japan.
It is the most powerful handheld ever made that works seamlessly on the TV.
It is launching with one of the best games ever made. (the framerate drops are an issue but it runs smoothly in the portable mode) A great racer that runs at 60fps in split screen and a truly charming puzzle game. It is going to be my go to for Nintendo games and indies which I feel are better on the go.
Some may dislike the joycons but having multiplayer for my two sons ready out of the box sounds great.
I skipped the wiiu (like most people) so I am excited to play Mario Kart and splatoon with my kids.

I'm interested, but with all the awesome games coming out for the PS4, I'm going to hold off until the Switch's library grows and the software/hardware kinks are worked out.

Speaking of which, apparently there's been some rumblings that the dock has been pulled from Nintendo's store, and may be getting redesigned with all the complaints about screen scratching.

It's not weird. It's Nintendo making a sub-par product. If the idea was just a super Gameboy, it's $100 too expensive.

Oh, wait, you didn't even buy the Wii U?

I agree, there is waaay more hate in here then I expected, had to make sure I wasnt in the OT for a moment. I have to ask have you ever even handled the switch? Because honestly youre coming off like a person that wants to hate this, watched a YouTube vid of someone saying it sucks and then saying "see Im right, it sucks!"

I own it and Ive played it for several hours over the past couple days and I can say without a doubt, people that are saying the controller is uncomfortable and bad are just making it up. As said my hands are broad and somewhat large and Ive yet to get a cramped wrist or hand fall asleep (even after a Zelda over due of 4 or 5 hours straight) these might look odd and they do, believe me I was planning on just getting the Pro and let the kids fight over the joycons. Im glad I didnt. The joycons are simply good controllers, period.

Also I get so annoyed when people bash another console by using a launch window as a reason why its bad. Every other console has limited games to show at launch, you want to say the lineup sucks, go for it I wont argue against that its basically a few glorified demos and Zelda.(but holy CRAP Zelda is good. Great even.) surprisingly good demos but demos.

I do getthe WiiU crowds anger though, I too own a WiiU and have a pile of games for it. All I can say about that is at least in a year games for it will be dirt cheap . Ill say this, right now the Switch isnt worth it unless youre a big ol Nintentard like I am. Im all about supporting them because they are my fave games company bar none. But by Christmas time the Switch is going to be something for sure, this system is what they should of released instead of the WiiU. And someday when youre all done hating and buy one youll see it too. Trust me

Chikout- Splatoon is an absolute blast! You and your kids will enjoy Splatoon2 for aure. I bought Splatoon because it was the only online shooter I was slightly interested in and I was surprised by how good it is. As above, I am a Wii U owner, and the really cool feature was being able to play the Wii U gamepad while someone else watched TV. That was great.

Switch isn't really an upgrade to the Wii U. The Joycons are gimmicky, and there's no argument that their ergonomics are far worse than a regular controller. The overall design was compromised by the detachable Joycons. I'm not going to be buying one, not for $300.

For the same $300, yeah, we'll be able to get a lot of AAA WiiU games on clearance. Oh, boy.

But new console? I'll be looking at PS / X - something with actual dev support.

Not great. There is no information whatsoever about restocks with one exception - GameStop has a bundle for pre-order ... with a $600 price tag ... plus it won't ship until April 16. Beyond that, it's just a crap shoot right now. Advise your daughter to think of something else or start explaining what a raincheck is ...

Am almost certainly going to get one, but might wait a bit longer to see what other games will be released beyond Zelda (3rd party support has always been the issue for Nintendo, hopefully they have learned!)

Agree completely KingCracker about the launch releases, as long as the machine has one 'killer' release it's not important, and I don't think there has ever been a new console released with more than 1-2 must have games.

I think I'll view this as a 3DS-type console. I travel a fair bit by train and am often away from home, so the portability really appeals. Also it's great to hear that you can get more than one docking station, so can set up with a couple of TVs.

Can't say I'm interested. I personally think that a console that is going to try to be a home and mobile console is going to fall short at both. And from what I've heard, that's pretty accurate.

major battery problems on the go, and even issues maintaining a charge when docked.

On top of that, the game (because there is just one game) look like it could be on a gamecube.

I mean, if I took public transit a lot, and was a major Nintendo fanboi, I'd think about it, but I'm just not interested.

That being said, several people in my gaming group got one release date (two of whom actually owe me some money). And they seem to enjoy it. And good for them, and you, if you're enjoying it.

But I'm not, and have never been, the type to buy consoles brand new, because of the general lack of launch games, and I like to wait and see how it works out.

Miles may vary. I just see an overhyped game with lots of paid critic reviews. It doesn't deserve a near 100 in the sleightest. Maybe an 80 or so. Other games have done the same thing, and better than that while they were at it.

It launched with Zelda. 2 console display games and a lot of indies that have been around for years. No word from 3rd party devs at all. Except for Skyrim? Which has been out for around 5 years now?

It's being sold on the Zelda and Nintendo name for now. Not a thing they can keep up the whole time.

This is true and at the moment I doubt it is worth it to most people for just one game, even if the game is amazing.

The release definitely seems rushed. I was initially interested but my goodness is Nintendo doing some nice ol price gouging on the accessories. In Canada, the pro controller is 90(!!) dollars. The Switch itself is 400 dollars and Zelda is another 80 dollars. I know our currency is in the crapper but 570 dollars, for effectively a single game system, is a definite nope.

I'm gonna wait a year or two to see how everything pans out. The amount of games popping up for the Switch looks promising, though.

Top games I want to play are Zelda, Wargroove (finally a medieval advanced wars that's not a app) and Shovel Knight:Spectre knight.

When it has a better games line up and cheaper may pick it up, as Zelda is the only thing in the near future that is neither a port or rehash that looks any good.

Not spending over 300 quid for one game

As far as getting a system for yourself/family just hound the local stores until you get your hands on one. Thats what we did here, literally called 8 shops until toys are us told us about their shipments.

Still going to completely disagree on the ergos of the joycons. These things feel really nice in the hand, gamecube controller feel but more open is how Id describe them.

Gimmicky.........well sure I wont argue to hard here, Im not a fan of motion control at all. Though the motion control feels very tight. Aiming a bow in Zelda is so precise using both the sticks and motion control vs just sticks alone. Im curious to see how well that works for Splatoon2.

The system, when it is turned on, automatically switches (doh) to the source that the system is hooked up to. I was on the Xbox One and it changed in the middle of a game when someone turned the Switch on. Also if the TV isn't on and you turn the system on while in the dock it also turns the TV.

Oh yeah but it was a surprise the first time it happened. Just throwing out there that it starts out turned on. Generally I like it that way as I tend to play on the TV so when I go to play Zelda I can just grab the controller and turn the system on and it does everything.

Oh come on. You're seriously saying that a tiny nubbin thing is comparable to a full-size controller in terms of ergonomics? It's self-evident that it is not, in the same way that no dogbone is going to hold a candle to a fighting stick or HOTAS setup.

No, that is not what I said. However these two controllers are highly different from one another, so I know that comparing them is absolutely silly.

I personally have not had a lot of time with them, but I found no issues while using them. I certainly do not have enough experience with them to speak of their ergonomics. Going to ask again, what is your experience with them? Have you had spent any time using the joycons?

Its like I said earlier people are hating it to hate it and found a few vids online that agree with their opinions. Annnnnd the vast majority have no experience with the system at all. While the joycons are hooked up in the controller form its the size of a PS4 controller, I can take a comparison picture if youd like. Ill argue the comfort till Im blue in the face, the joycons are a rock solid comfortable controller even when playing 2 player with them I dont get cramps.

End of debate? The problem is people being blinded by the shiny new Nintendo hype. Praising it to heaven whilst it's in all honesty nothing special at all. BotW is a decent to good game and not "BEST GAME EVAR LOLOLOL" like everyone if praising it to be. And the console/handheld (whatever it actually counts as) has it's flaws. Like EVERY launch the past 2 decades.

Oh have you played with those tiny things over 2 hours? I have... my hands are cramping up. it's not made for extended use, like their handhelds are to. It's not about as you say, it being the same size as a PS4 controller. It's about it's ergonomics. It's the same as with the 3DS, 2DS or DSi. I can't play more than 2 hours with it till it starts to cramp.

Over 2 hours? Holy crap mate I do not think you are suppose to play any game more then a hour max.

I could not imagine holding something for over 2 hours with out getting cramps. Maybe it is more of a take a break every 30 minutes or so to keep your hands from becoming claws.

I think 2 hours is really short. I usually spend my evenings/late afternoon gaming. Be it PC, Xbox360/One/Nintendo DS/3DS or Wii U. On weekends it's more. More or less because it's one of my hobbies and I love it. It's usally at least 3 hours of Overwatch a day. Was a bit more last week, spending time playing GR: Wildlands and some Breath of the Wild.

The only thing that mostly cramps up is my butt, but that's mostly my couch's fault. or said joycons for my hands.

I think the Nintendo Switch looks like a lot of fun, but I'm definitely going to wait. A) releasing it with basically BotW as the only good game was a risky move and B) Nintendo really pissed me off, first with the shortages of the Nintendo Classic (which is still sold out over 4 months later) and now the shortages of the Switch. Either Nintendo is intentionally shorting people or they're really, really bad at planning out sales

It is recommended by video game companies and doctors that every hour you take a 15 minute break to stretch in order to avoid cramping and development of carpal tunnel. So I mean, your hand cramping after 2 hours is nothing special.

No, I've played JRPGs and fighting games for *many* hours on end. Classic 90s JPRGs are *massive* time sinks if you want to finish them and get the alternate / bonus endings. The arcade sticks I bought were great for that kind of extended play, no problems. If you could only play FFVII for an hour at a time, you'd never finish the game.

My kids want one, but nothing I read about it is stellar. From complaints about the small controller (for me), to small storage size, scratching screens and only Zelda available. Never mind actually finding one.

With 3 kids, I'd have to buy another controller, so in the end it would be a $450 investment. Just not worth it. Maybe when Mario comes out...

The arcade sticks I bought were great for that kind of extended play, no problems. If you could only play FFVII for an hour at a time, you'd never finish the game.

I disagree, with the caveat that the newly ported versions of the PC remake, allowing not only the move at 3x Speed, "God Mode" at will, and disable random encounters have allowed me to breeze through FF7 about an hour at a time. Even just using the move at 3x speed has dramatically improved my play time and my enjoyment of the game (hard to replay 90's JRPGs when you have a full time job and kids).

But yes, going back to John's original point, some games were designed to be played for hours at a time.

I'd consider picking up a WiiU. Tons of great multiplayer games and with the Switch out, it should drop hard in price.

3x Speed. God Mode. No Randoms. That's basically a completely different game than what I played on the original PS.

Ya I was never too much into those type of games. I was more into things like bomberman, megaman and Mac and joe things you bet in like 30 minutes max.

I could never get into final fantasy and that stuff what killed it for me was the game where the main girl had that fro thing and the big sword. I just kept asking why she was sooo tiny and had such a big sword. There was a black guy with a gun for a arm which was cool tho.

Oh oh and the game I spent the most time on ever twisted metal 2 omg that was an amazing game, axel by far was the best his ramming was amazing ram then special lol.

The switch should along with any Nintendo system release with 3 main games. Mario, man game (mega/pac/ ect) and Zelda. Those are the games that kept Nintendo afloat for years they should always be added to a bundle at release.

Not sure if it is repeated but Nintendo several months ago demanded all roms be removed from most sites. Like cool rom.com and other sites I know of, so expect lot of rehash snes games and nes games.

It totally is. That being said, I love the 3x speed, but turn it off for bosses and it's auto-ignored for cinematic cutscenes. I rarely use the God Mode and the No Randoms, unless it's I'm exploring for an item/doing a jump section.

So some cool and funny moments in Zelda Ive had.

I was climbing around a forest and found a sleeping Hinox. The damn thing was like 20ft tall and ripped trees out of the ground and tossed them at me. That was fun to fight.

I was fighting against an assassin, the first one I went against. Not only that but during the fight a lightning storm broke out. So Im dodging his attacks learning his patterns, it was so cool with that lightning storm raging. He hit me a few times and knocked me down. While I was on the ground he raised his weapon slowly to strike me down, rain pouring dowb and then POW lightning strikes his weapon and kills him instantly.

I was wandering around and stumbled on a nest of Guardians. The lasers came from all around me and so I ran for my life. They were blowing up trees and barrels everywhere as I ducked dipped dived and dodged them. I ran out of ground and jumped off a cliff. While gliding away they were still blasting away at me. It was rad.

Im still really impressed with just the sheer size of this game. Its friggin MASSIVE. I know I have more awesome and fun stories but those were the first few that popped in mind

Really in love with the thing. Zelda is a fantastic game for sure, but the system itself fulfills a lot of the promises the Wii U failed to manage.

No small part of that is because the system is really an extremely nice portable that happens to be easy to project onto a TV. In a lot of ways it feels similar to when I picked up the Wii and Twilight Princess right up until you undock the thing. It's nothing like the Wii U's extermely disappointing controller, which lacked the screen quality or tether range to work as advertised.

It feels absolutely fantastic to be sitting and playing and have my daughter want to use the TV, pick the thing up from the dock and go to my office seamlessly. My big frustration with gaming lately has just been how much startup and update time everything has when mixed with how much I have to play in short spurts, and the system comes dangerously close to the GBA days where I would go throughout my day without really ever stopping my game.

The system isn't perfect but its extremely versatile and convenient. I don't think its enough to change the course of the industry or anything, but its definitely what I want these days the the other systems on the market.

Probably an easter egg. Far Cry 4 had a similar trick, where if you follow the villain, obey his demands, you essentially complete your character's objective and get an alternate ending.

I'm honestly amazed the Switch has been selling well, I was totally expecting it to bomb as hard as the Wii U. I used to love Nintendo right up until the Wii, they haven't put out a real console since 2001. At this point I kinda wish they'd just do handhelds and third party games for Sony and Microsoft, but they seem able to survive just fine with these gimmick devices.

It could be that you're not the target demographic creeping-deth87..

Don't get me wrong, am well into my games, have a PC and PS4 and really looking forward to the new Mass Effect etc.

But, having games on the move, party stuff, being easy to use and convenient to use in different ways, think just add some of the Nintendo popularity and it doesn't surprise me at all that it is selling well.

So yes, not perhaps a true 'gaming console' (and people seem to love to scoff that it won't be able to play some of the newer, more hardware intensive games) but I think it has the potential to appeal to a lot wider demographic.

The Wii U only sold 13.5 million units and lasted less than 4 and a half years before Nintendo put out another console. It absolutely bombed.

This makes me think you don't know what "bombed" means. I never said it was amazingly successful but it sure didn't bomb either, even by your own numbers. There are other systems that did far worse and lasted even shorter time periods. It was a mediocre system that did mediocre sales, but that isn't "bombing"

That to me makes me think you would only consider stuff like the Dreamcast, which took Sega out of the home console business entirely, as bombing. That's setting the bar pretty high. The Wii U sold very few units compared to its competitors and had an incredibly short life cycle. People can make of that whatever they want, but it absolutely did not do well. It really isn't a stretch to say that it bombed.

Thread unlocked because we are an independent forum and it is okay to criticize Nintendo here. If anyone wants to surround themselves with unalloyed praise for Nintendo, there is probably a FB group for that.

Meanwhile - the Switch is a controversial product for a number of reasons. Even people who want one are a bit miffed at Nintendo right now because, as always, Nintendo is not getting its product to market. And there are some concerns about the product's quality. Finally, it's not totally unreasonable to find what's on offer lacking relative to the price tag (although I am not in that camp, personally).

As far as comparisons to the WiiU - I can tell you this much, it was very simple to get a WiiU a month or so after Christmas. Let's see how easy it is to get a Switch next month.

Done?

Super excited for MK8DX. 8 is my favorite game in the series since MK64 and the only thing that held it back was a lack of battle mode. Adding that back in, making it portable and trivial to play 4 player? Sold.

I've heard Bomberman is solid, just overpriced. I keep meaning to pick it up as it doesn't take much to let it go 8 player.

For me it just lives up to the promise of... well, Switching. I sit down to play it like a normal console but then my daughter wants to watch something so I flip to handheld for a bit before docking it again to play on the TV. In doing so I've noticed that it feels more familiar in handheld mode on the couch overall, but I'd generally rather be playing it projected on the TV.

It reminds me a lot of the Super Game Boy and Game Boy Advance adapter for the GameCube, which were two golden eras for portables as far as I'm concerned. I find it hard to play very meaningful games on a dedicated portable. Monster Hunter 4 and the like are cool, but when I'm home I want to use my TV if possible so the gameplay gets hacked up and I never get engrossed. When there have been good options to play on the handheld and TV, I've generally put the time in and really enjoyed the portable epics of those eras.

So. Got a heads up yesterday afternoon that WalMart had the Switch in stock online. Sure enough, I can add one to my cart. Sign in to check out ... and what's this? I have to change my password. That process takes approximately 1.5 minutes. Sign in - "we're sorry that item is out of stock." FFFFFUUUU-

BUT ... later that night, I find out through the small town grapevine that Best Buy just got some in on the truck. Spring into action! When I get to BestBuy, the first thing I see is a 10 or 11-y.o. kid chanting to himself: I got a Nintendo Switch! I got a Nintendo Switch! I got a Nintendo Switch! Soon, I was (internally) chanting the same.

A little later on ... playing Breath of the Wild ... yes this was worth it ...

About four hours into BotW, I realized I wasn't just having fun - I was feeling grateful ... not just for the luxuries of having time to play a video game or owning an expensive and somewhat rare toy but also gratitude for living in a time capable of producing such a beautiful experience. I was pretty skeptical of the perfect review scores but BotW lives up to them IME so far.

As for the Switch: as promised, I have been using it as a handheld. The screen is excellent. I don't feel like I am missing out on the sweeping beauty of Hyrule because the image is bright and sharp. The controllers on either end of the screen have made my hands cramp a bit - probably because I haven't played a handheld for several years now.

Nintendo Switch! POKEMON SWORD AND SHIELD this fall @ 2017/04/01 11:16:22

That scratching thing I think comes down to how people handle the docking of the Switch. Ive had ours for a couple weeks and its not scratched at all. Though. a screen protector or at least a cloth to cover the switch dock is a good idea because even though Im careful, the screen is still just plastic

My daughter's birthday is this Saturday - got the Switch, Zelda and screen protectors ready to go!

Speaking of which - how necessary is the screen protector?

Is the screen THAT sensitive to scratching?

Is the docking/undocking that...particular?

Nintendo Switch! POKEMON SWORD AND SHIELD this fall @ 2017/04/13 20:49:23

Post by: KingCracker

Ill say the protectors are necessary. The screen is plastic so scratches are easier to put on it. Though as far as scratches while docking Im gunna go ahead and mostly blame the user. I still am scratch free but thats because my son and I take care to dock it properly and not just drop the system down all whilly nilly. And no docking is a pretty simple process. Id suggest get inthe habit of tilting the switch so its backside is sliding down the dock and not the screen

Me too..

Although the biggest problem here is finding the machine on sale (at least the one with the grey controllers) which seems to have been perpetually out of stock for the past week.

Any UK purchasers been able to pick up Zelda for a reasonable (non GAME £59.99) price?

Well my copy of Mariokart8 came yesterday! But due to freezing cold temps yesterday I let it sit and warm up a bit before plugging er in. And of course was instantly swarmed by the family to play with me. So we all played 4 player for about an hour. Battles are super fun( waaay better then what the WiiU version came with) and we also did some regular racing. I really like all the driving assists they put in the game because my daughter SUCKS at racing games but it allowed her to feel like she could play with us though it starts off with everything turned on which was annoying. Id suggest invest in some joycon controller doohickies https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01MT9RSST/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1493805639&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=nintendo+joycon+grip&dpPl=1&dpID=41azn-bYl7L&ref=plSrch

Like these because we all just used the joycons sideways which does the job but as the races went on my hands were not liking this tiny controller at all, my wife didnt either, the kids loved it because I started to not crush everyone lol.

After everyone left I did a couple races alone and loved it. Man this game has the lipstick on it in spades! I can notice an improvement over the WiiU however it is very slight. Controls are super tight and everything is as one would expect from a Mariokart game. Later today Ill jump back into it and get more familiar with this one, see what else they changed or added

Looks like whatever stock of Switches that were released along Mario Kart have sold out, which puts me back into lurk mode. Maybe console stocks will imrpove in a couple of months.

Well I know they doubled production a month ago and have even been shipping over seas using airmail instead pf a shipping vessel because its a lot faster by air than by sea. I have read that from its launch date of april 28th to. The beginning of may Mariokart sold over a million copies! Thats hilarious and awesome.

This game is fantastic, Id argue it might be the best game ever made. Yup, Im calling it. Everyone, and I mean everyone plays Mariokart. So far Ive been getting my racing shape back by getting 3 stars on all the circuits from 50cc to 100cc. Ill start 150cc later today Im sure. Cant put this puppy down!

Thanks for the info. Seems like there's one post that wants to sell a bundle, but people want everything but the Switch. Maybe a chance!

Of course, this is after I made a miniatures purchase based on the idea that I wouldn't be buying a Switch until June or later... T_T

Mario Kart 8 DX is probably the best game in the series. I felt this way about the original Wii U release, but the lack of battle mode made it hard for me to give it the badge.

We played it quite a bit on the original release and when I picked up the new version my wife decided we should run a cup to break it in. 4 hours later we realized that one of us needed to get some sleep before morning.

I hadn't really kept up on the DLC but the new courses are great and 200 cc is hilariously awesome. 200 cc Baby Park is the most chaotic thing I've ever seen and in general the extra speed really takes a lot to compensate for and makes all the old courses feel new again.

The addition of retro cups has been one of the biggest boons to the series since MK DS and this one probably has the best selection overall. 8 is just a superb entry in a superb series and the DX version combined with the portability of the Switch itself is just a perfect storm of wish fulfillment as far as I'm concerned.

Ok so Ive played a fair bit (probably more than Id like to admit) and Im settling ona a solid 9 out of 10 for Mariokart 8. The game is a joy to play, its controls are rock solid and the courses are just awesome! Its difficulty ranges from fall asleep easy to rip your hair out hard. And if thats still to easy just go online and see how bad you really are.

. My biggest complaint about the game, and really I think its my only one, is the "difficulty" spike. I put that in quotes because I feel like the AI doesnt really get that much better in skill, but more like their aim is on rails and the feeling of being cheated out of a win ramps WAY up. Ive lost count of jow many times Ive been on race number 4, winning 1st on all the races, being on the last lap with the finish in sight, only to be sniped from a ninja from nowhere. Or the one that makes me want to punch a small puppy, Lightning bolt, followed by a red shell, followed by either a blue shell or green shell and then 3 or 5 karts zipping past me.

That is the single only thing in Mariokart 8 that makes me say there is no way Id give it a 10 out of 10. Cheap losses in harder races. Great game though otherwise, fantastic even! Easily a must have for a Switch.

Im with you there! Ive never been a fan of 2nd party controllers. Shoot I remember back in the day the 2nd party memory cards were just junk! Once I had one that simply forgot I had a 70 hour run on Final fantasy 7 then about 30 hours in it did it again so I tossed it

I don't believe they're third party controllers, but the Joy-Con Comfort Grip and the Charging Grip that Nintendo sells.

Nintendo Switch! POKEMON SWORD AND SHIELD this fall @ 2017/05/10 15:50:41

Ahhh then you should be fine. The comfort grip is what I use 90% of the time and love it. Cant say anything about the charge grip other than you have to charge it separately.

I have the charge grip because I want to be able to charge the Joy Cons without having to attach them to the system but I use the Pro-controller the vast majority of the time. The battery life on it is crazy.

I believe it, the pro controller for the WiiU was like that. It lasted so long we literally lost the charge cable and had to buy a new cable. It was like 60 or 80 hours a charge. Frigging nuts, and my ps4 controller lasts like 8

Mariokart has always struggled with its AI as the races/cups progressed, right back to the old SNES edition!
Pity they couldnt have come up with a better solution than the old blue shell up the bum when in first on the last lap :(

Yup always been big-time elastic bands in Mario Kart.

Still waiting to get hold of mine, stock levels are very low in the UK - at least if you want the grey version (there are some of the neon versions about but I'm less keen on that one).

There are a couple of inflated price versions on ebay but am content (just about!) to wait for the time being.

In the meantime what options have people gone with for screen protectors and carry cases?

Quite brave of you Infinite_array glad that worked out for you!

I love the Blue Shell was created to stop the game from crashing.

In general, the issue is just that if you're anywhere "in the pack" you're subject to wild swings of placement as you get hit by things. If you can get to first its pretty easy to get enough distance that the majority of things that can slow you down can be blocked to the point where a blue shell just pulls you back rather than lose your place. If you get a super horn though, keep it. It will knock the blue shell out of the sky.

That is indeed a nice get although if you got the physical version of BotW you shouldn't need the SD card to play. You don't really need one for the digital either but it takes up a huge amount of space. I have the physical version and never had to have a memory extension.

Yeah I havnt needed an sd card yet either. Unless you plan on lots of digitals you wont either for the time being. Also kudos on the score! Thats a good deal.

Also I unlocked the gold kart this morning after finding out this version isnt exactly like the WiiU version. You dont need 3 gold stars on every grand prix......you only need to finishj 1st overall. I learned this with only 3 grand prixs left in mirror mode lol. Oh well.

I think I'll get a 128GB card - know it's not strictly necessary (and I know an element of it is just whichever news/journalist articles looking for any excuse to make a story, in the same way they pounce on any new piece of tech) but use it for my phone as well and it's just handy knowing you can download any old crap and not have to worry about running out of storage.

That does look kind of cool.

I see Steamworld dig 2 is coming out (really liked the original on the DS).
Jailbreak is fun on the PC, not sure how it would work on console without a mouse (what was the Xbox version like?)
Flipping Death looks kind of funny/quirky, can see that working well on the handheld.
Shakedown Hawaii looks like a lot of fun (very much like Hotline Miami) and love the retro/80s soundtrack
And Stardew Valley of course, again think that kind of game will work well with the handheld format.

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2017/05/harvest_moon_light_of_hope_to_brighten_up_the_nintendo_switch

The launch of the Nintendo Switch brought a bit of land management-sim gameplay to the eShop with New Frontier Days: Founding Pioneers, but fans of the genre will no doubt want more extensive retail options. Perhaps Natsume and Rising Star Games will deliver that, as they've released a joint press release to announce Harvest Moon: Light of Hope, the latest title in the IP's 20th Anniversary celebrations.
Also coming to PS4 and PC, the Switch version will be on show at E3, so we'll aim to give it a try. Below is some information from the press release.
In Harvest Moon: Light of Hope, players begin the game as they set out looking for a fresh start and new surroundings. During their voyage, their ship is hit by a monsoon and goes down. As they drift into a small harbor town, now in a shambles from the storm, it will be up to the player to help rebuild the town and save the lighthouse...but it won't be easy! Nevertheless, with some hard work growing crops, tending livestock, and gathering materials for repairs, players will be able to make new friends, start a family, revive the lighthouse, and save the town!
"Harvest Moon: Light of Hope will set itself apart from other Harvest Moon titles with its depth, including a robust story and clear-cut goals," said Hiro Maekawa, President & CEO of Natsume. "We set out to create a SNES-style nostalgic game with deep and meaningful characters and events, and we are excited to have our fans play it at E3 and tell us what they think!"
"Partnering with Natsume for over a decade, we've been delighted to bring the joyful gameplay of Harvest Moon to fans in Europe and beyond", said Martin Defries, Managing Director, Rising Star Games. "We are excited to be part of the unveiling of Harvest Moon: Light of Hope at E3"

This has a smile on my face! The wife and I loved to place the GameCube version together and we seriously considered buying a couple 3ds' and New Leaf to play again. More at E3 I guess, cant wait to hear more

Did you folks catch the Nintendo Direct the other day on ARMS? Looks pretty cool to me, free updates and add ons apparently which is always a good thing in my book. It goves me a Splatoon vibe but more punchy rather than shooty. May 26th is a free download demo for the game for those of us that are interested.

Looks like a lot of fun, can imagine that being good for multi-switch local play and with some beers involved.

Have now finally got hold of a Switch. Only had a few hours play on it and on Zelda but really enjoying myself.

The machine itself feels solid and well built, it is definitely expensive but you feel like you're getting some good quality for the money. I love the way that the instruction manual is presented on the screen as part of setting up the console for the first time - clicking the side controllers off to make the controller with the grip etc.

The docking function and option to play hand-held is an absolute work of genius as far as I'm concerned. Have played a hell of a lot more than I would have if it had been TV -only, and the resolution on the handheld is as crisp as anything I have seen on a device.

As for Zelda, only a short way into it but you have to admire the way Nintendo makes games. Just so intuitive, just love how it feels like a kind of physics or science lab where you can chuck stuff together and see how it works out - it usually does! Trying to cook some mushrooms which then set on fire and blew into some long grass, causing a chain reaction of fire to spread and burning some goblinoids out - brilliant! I just keep finding myself shaking my head with wonder at Nintendo's game design.

One thing I have found is that it is quite hard! Poor Link has been crushed, hit and frozen to death in my hands a few times now already

Nice one, definitely a grade-A game for the system, the local multiplayer is out of this world.

Incidentally if anyone wants additional controllers for the likes of Mario Kart and other games that don't require motion control, 8bitdo have now released some firmware that allow their controllers to be used with the Switch.

Really a boon as it means you don't have to fork out major money for half of a Joy-Con, I've just got the NES30 Pro (which looks like an updated NES controller - awesome), going to have a go with it tonight and report how I get on with it.

It does indeed. Coop on Blaster requires each person to use one half of a Joycon, which is way to tiny for me so if these work and allow one use it that would be pretty cool.

Providing blaster doesn't use any of the motion/shaking type controls think this would be perfect, it's definitely going to be my controller of choice for stuff like that, Wonderboy and any classic games that come on the Virtual Console eventually.

This is the one I bought, although there are variations (if you want classic NES or SNES design, and don't want the analogue controls)
https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Bluetooth-Controller-Classic-Joystick/dp/B018K3Q4KS

I've only tried it on Mario Kart so far but it works perfectly, and is preferable to the tiny Joy Con. Both the digital and analogue controller works OK, although I found myself using the d-pad due to the spacing of the buttons.

The setup is fairly straightforward, the controller has just had some new firmware released for it that allows it to work with the Switch. There are a ton of online youtube vids and sites detailing what process to follow, but basically you just download the latest v4.0 firmware from the official 8bitdo site, run this on your PC/MAC and then plug in the controller (mini-USB is provided) to update the software. You can then just pair the controller with the machine using the usual process that you would have done for a new Pro or Joy-Con controller.

On a separate note the build quality of the controller seems good, and it comes in a really nicely packed little retro-style box, with a key ring. Small things to please small minds and all that, but you can tell they've definitely aimed it at the gaming enthusiast. Think its well worth the money if you're thinking of another controller!

Nintendo announced prices and a few other things.
1 year service is only $20 same in Europe, UK wasnt announced yet but we can guess itll be 20 or less. If you dont want a year you can buy in 1 month and 6 months. 3-4 bucks for a month and 10ish for 6 months.

Theres rumors of a "Netflix" style setup for Online members with older titles from NES and SNES possibly more where along with your subscription you can just download from the list and play to your hearts content with possible online features as well. Sounds good to me

From reading it sounds like online will still be free until 2018.

I like the idea of a Netflix style service, and it will at last stop me from buying a new version for each system I own. I must have had something like 3 copies of Castlevania by now..

Same here Casltevania is one of my favourite game series ever and so Ive played it on a number of systems in my life.

The online voice chat setup seems a bit clunky and weirdish as of right now. Hori has released a picture of how their headset will work. Bow Im not a fan of chatting it up online but if my brothers or friends played with me then maybe Id have a different take on it. Just playing with random people usually ends up a disaster and either hearing a preteen screeching ear piercingly high or guys my age arguing with the wife.....
anywho rant done there lol. It looks kindda clunky its a device that hooks to the Switch and another cord to your smart device. Then the headset hooks up to a dealy-O that connects all 3 together. Kind of a mess from what I saw but who knows it just might work out. Its certainly a Nintendo thing, weird and different whether it works out or not we wont know till it happens

Still enjoying Zelda, WHAT a game. Honest I am struggling to think of one, in all the years I have been playing, that is as well designed. There are just so many neat little touches, I keep finding myself shaking my head in wonder at what Miyamoto has achieved with that game.

Anyway!

Great thing about Switch is that's its region free, so have been looking at some of the asian releases which haven't yet come to the EU and US officially.

Does anyone know of any others?

Firstly there is the Seiken Densetsu collection (Secret of Mana) http://kotaku.com/nintendo-switch-is-getting-seiken-densetsu-collection-i-1793471524
One of my all time favourite SNES games, but looks to be all in Japanese and I doubt this will get a localised release :(

It looks like the same situation for the Dragon Quest games as well unfortunately (although think those are much more likely to get a foreign language release)

It's a pipe dream probably, but I keep wishing for a way to play Zelda without getting the full Switch... like if they just released the tablet alone. Do you find yourself playing it more one way or the other (on your TV versus on the tablet)?

Nintendo Switch! POKEMON SWORD AND SHIELD this fall @ 2017/06/28 22:18:36

Post by: Pacific

If I had to choose between the two I would say TV is better (just because it lets you slump a bit more on the sofa! And if you have the pro controller it's a bit more comfortable for extended play)

But the beauty of the Switch is the versatility - I've got to play it so much than I usually would just because you can snatch 10-20 minutes here and there, on public transport etc.
I think it's by far the biggest strength of the system, and playing it now I can't believe that no-one did it before.

It helps that the picture quality on the handheld is absolutely stunning, I honestly don't know how they have produced the machine for that price.

Pretty much the same here. I rarely remove it from the TV but it is nice to have the option for when it is useful to do so.

So, how's everyone's Switch playing?

I've finally finished Persona 5, so I'm back in BotW. Not going to bother buying Splatoon 2 for the same reason I didn't pick up ARMS - little to no single player content means the games will need to thrive on online multiplayer, and that's never been Nintendo's strong point.ARMS already seems to be dying off in attention, although that might just be the attention Splatoon's getting.

Mario is stellar. Feels the most like 64 of the other 3D Marios with a little traditional progression thrown in and a dash of Breath of the Wild's "ooo piece of candy" design that trains you to explore every little bit of the map and find fun and rewarding things wherever you go. I keep setting goals to quit and and playing entire worlds past that point without even thinking about it. Were it not Halloween I would have just forgone sleep and finished it by now.

Good to read that about Mario vs. rabbids KingCracker - that one's been on my list for a while.

Just playing through Wonderboy. Damn that game is hard, real old-school 8/16-bit take your money coin-op hard. Not sure if it's just a graphical update of the old Master System game? I can see a lot of crying 8 year olds trying to play it, after they've been killed 15 times in a row on the first level, and their parents bought the game because of the cutesy looking graphics on the cover.

I have Super Ghouls n Ghosts on my SNES and said screw it lets do this! So after about 4 hours of banging my head against the couch cushions I said frack this! Yet I beat Dark Souls with a similar thought process.

Ooooh I think I can contribute to this thread.

I have the following games;

Zelda - awesome but only played for like 20 hours or so, it's kinda intimidating how much there is to do and I can easily spend an hour or so wandering off to an 'interesting' (lethal) thing I saw in the distance.

Mario Odyssey - incredible game, should have been GOTY for me. Perfect homage to Mario 64 and felt just like it. The sense of discovery and pure enjoyment you get while playing is out of this world. The introduction of new mechanics and challenges is perfect throughout the game as you're left to find them yourself. Easily a must purchase.

Has Been Heroes - I enjoyed this title. Very challenging, typical rogue-like where luck plays a major part. It did get somewhat repetitive after so many hours but it looks just as good on the small screen as on the TV, which is a bonus.

Snake Pass - fun little game but only got about 5-8 hours of gameplay out of it really. Good for kids. Not worth the money for adults and I haven't touched it since completion.

Mario vs Rabbids - great game, very tactical and lighthearted. A Nintendo take on Xcom, very well executed and professional. I found it a little easy but again it's probably for a younger crowd generally.

Shovel Knight Treasure Trove - great game. Perfect port as visuals are fine on the small screen. Challenging but not too brutal and never feels unfair.

Arms - I was addicted to this title for a good 30 hours or so and suddenly just stopped playing. It's a good game but I think there are certain fighters and arms that are just flat better than others, which is a shame. It's a good multiplayer game as the motion controls are intuitive and fun.

Rocket League - an addiction on the PC, now an addiction on the Switch. Difficult to see ball on the small screen. Not a perfect port either, there are performance issues now and again with certain boosts/car combinations and the deadzone must be set in a very specific way or there is input lag. Still, undeniably an excellent game.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - loved it. I had both Xenoblade Chronicles on Wii and Xenoblade Chronicles X on WiiU, neither of which I managed to complete and both of which I stopped playing after 30 or so hours. XC2 is the perfect blend of both of these games. Not too large to be intimidating, challenging gameplay, collectible focus, great story but not too complicated. If you enjoy JRPGs at all, I would recommend highly.

Crawl - fun coop/competitive rogue-like game. Fun with 2, great with 4 players. Pixel art so looks great on small screen.

Splatoon 2 - same as first game really, I had been putting off getting it for a while but got it on Xmas day. First title was great, this one is too. Nintendo's take on a competitive FPS really. The regular updates keep things exciting and new. Lots of players at all times. If you haven't played the first one you should get this.

That's all I have but I've been really tempted by a few other titles; Snipperclips, Overcooked, Mario Kart to name a few.

Rumour has it Pokemon is coming to Switch next year which will be incredible and likely will push sales through the roof. It's a good time to be a Nintendo fanboy!

Wow that's an impressive repertoire of games you have got through there!

Thanks for the heads-up on Has Been Heroes and Crawl - hadn't heard of those and they do sound quite cool, Will have to check them out.

KingCracker - I know what you mean about Super Ghouls'n'Ghosts! Damn that game is tough, handed the game to a friend of mine and asked him if he could get off the first level, 30 minutes later he gave up I've got the SNES classic machine and have been meaning to have a go at Contra, but I still have nightmares about that game and haven't yet plucked up the courage!

The nice thing about Contra is its a blast to play even though its tough as nails. My son and I even use the Konami code and we still cant get more than half way through and Ive seen videos of people pulling it off with the original 3 lives......I must just suck or have a life outside of video games or something

Snipper Clips - Its a fun game and a great one to play with a couple people, its somehow very boring playing alone. They either ARE coming out with or already did come out with a new and improved Snipper Clips that is somehow bigger and better? I dont know as I only heard it in passing. Its definitely worth the money if you either have family to play with or friends that actually come and play with you. If youre just the lone gamer then Id say save the money because as said, solo is not really that fun

Just playing through this that at the moment and its bloody brilliant. Funny could I scoffed at it when I saw it for sale, only to read some reviews that listed at as one of the e-shop titles of the year.

Definitely a lot of Metroid in it, although more of a shoot-em-up than that game. You basically play as a faceless henchman of Russell Crowe's taskforce (I forget what they are called), and as your characters die you then play as the next soldier in line and have to try and get to the body/kit from the fallen soldier. But there is a great 16-bit look to it, and the music is great as well if you're into your euro-electronica (almost sounds like it could be done by Digitalism), so really evokes the best of that era.

Other than a very loose plot which is really superfluous to the game, think this has very little in common with the Tom Cruise film. One of the few examples I can think of where a movie lisence has spawned a great game.

Interesting gossip going on about Diablo coming to the Switch.
Blizzard released an enigmatic video of a light switch being turned on and on (which actually isn't that enigmatic if you think about it!) but then followed it up with a " we are definitely not releasing Diablo on the Switch. Hmm. I remember Bethesda releasing over and over again that they weren't making Fallout 4 even though everyone knew they were.
So I guess it's either that or Blizzard being total dicks

And.. apparently they might well be! Latest article from here:
http://bgr.com/2018/03/06/diablo-3-nintendo-switch-blizzard-rumor-sources/

One of the more confusing sagas in the video game industry this year has been the rumor that Diablo 3 is going to be ported to the Nintendo Switch. At the end of February, Blizzard shared a tweet that read “Sweet dreams” and showed a nightlight featuring the face of the demonic creature from the popular hack-and-slash franchise being switched on and off. Many naturally assumed that this was a hint that the game was making its way to the Switch.

But then, hours later, Blizzard sent the following statement to Polygon: “We can assure you we’re not that clever. [The tweet was] meant to be a fun community engagement piece. We have nothing to announce.” And thus, just as quickly as Blizzard had sparked the rumor, it shut down speculation once and for all.

That appeared to be the end of the story, at least until Eurogamer reported on Tuesday that sources claim the project is indeed in production at Blizzard. The sources were unable to confirm whether or not the Switch port would include the Reaper of Souls and Rise of the Necromancer expansions, but considering how long the game has been out, it would be surprising if the Switch version wasn’t the “definitive” edition with all of the bells and whistles.

While the sources appear to be confident that the project is in the works, it isn’t expected to be officially announced for several months. Therefore, chances are that this was just a clever tease that ended up garnering far more attention and reporting than Blizzard or Nintendo expected, which prompted Blizzard to deny the port’s existence.

Really enjoyed Diablo 3 (although only played the standard version) and can imagine it working really well on the hand-held.

In fact I just find the prospect of that really crazy (in a good way!)

Edited for much-needed clarity

Am just getting to the end of the Mummy Demastered. Excellent game, and it's a shame in a way that it's got the movie lisence tie-in to a film that will probably make a lot of people skip past it.
Just read that the game was developed by WayForward, who also did Aliens: Infestation on the DS, which is one of my other favourite platform games.

Some quite big news on Nintendo direct release yesterday, not least because Smash Bros & Crash Bandicoot are coming out on the machine this year

Am also looking forward to having an excuse to play Dark Souls again..

Dark Souls relaunch on the Switch makes me want to get a Switch finally. Though I'll probably wait a bit.

Apparently Dark Souls Switch has been delayed until the summer - curses!

In the meantime, having lost about a week of my life to Stardew Valley (which was great, but I have had my fill of milking cows and truffle oil), have downloaded Rogue Aces (which looks fun, is in the sale, and reminds me of a game on the ZX Spectrum called 'Destructoid').

Am quite looking forward to Project Octopath Traveller as well, from the makers of Bravely Default on the 3DS. Interestingly (in context of this forum) have read that it's possible the title is a mis-translation of 'Eightfold path', the Michael Moorcock-originated term (and what GW used as the Chaos star, for the uninitiated). Although at a glance it does sound like something to do with an Octopus.

The Noble Eightfold Path is a central concept in Buddhism, that sounds like a far more plausible reference to me.

Forums are very education. Ive learned world news AND the best possible way to troll people all in one spot. Its like a modern gas station in many regards, buy the nachos and the toilet is right over there!

Yea I was really looking forward to Dark Souls but what can ya do? Ive also been eye banging Octopath since last year when I first saw it. I played the demo for hours just messing around and learning what I could. Thats going to be a fun game. Thats good too because as I get older I find Ive become far more picky with what I actually play. I went from spontaneously buying to looking....watching videos reading reviews looking some more, talking to people, more videos, I think I dont need it, srill kindda want it, videos, ok lets buy it.

Have finally completed Mario, only to find that there is still a hell of a lot more stuff for me to collect!

Wow what a game, am really enjoying re-visiting the earlier levels now and searching for power moons I had missed the first time around.

Particularly loved the section of the game where you got to the mushroom kingdom. Without spoiling too much, if you loved Mario 64 all I will say is there is a special treat in store for you in this game

So what are people thinking the news will be from E3? I know there are a number of fake leaked schedules doing the rounds, but hopefully those have some truth - Metroid etc.

PS - be careful of auto-correct with the word Metroid if you're using Android!

Ah I've heard quite good things about that! There was a feature in the latest edition of Retro Gamer.

That's on my wish list along with Owl Boy, which is also meant to be quite good.

Am just playing through Battle Chasers: Nightwar, which is probably one of the worst-named games ever, but is really cool retro-style JRPG with some absolutely fantastic artwork. Am about 10 hours in at the moment and really enjoying it.

Ive been working to much lately to really have played much, but I did pick up Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze last week. Its a friggin delight, no surprise there.

Id love a proper Metroid game again, thatd be sweet. Either in the style of the Gamecube versions or 2.5 D would work for me as long as they don't suck. I remember playing one on the Wii that I thought was just ass on a disc.

Still waiting for Octopath

And Dark Souls.

Why is there no talk of Pokémon in here?

It'll be a gamechanger, regardless of whether you enjoy the series or not it'll drive a ton of sales.

Also what are peoples thoughts on the alleged online subscription service? Looks really reasonable to me.

Online subscription
I think its a good price specially with what is supposed to be included. Ill be buying the family pack as soon as its released.

Pokemon
Well yea thats going to sell some Switches thats for sure. Im eagerly awaiting that games release as well. I dont think theres much to talk about on that front though because unless I missed something they havnt said much outside of yes we're making the game

Definitely hoping they make a good job of the new Pokemon, but it's sure to be a massive seller in any case (imagine some sort of special edition switches, cases etc coming along at the same time).

As for the online service, it's very early days yet. Positive sign is that's its reasonably priced. I'm not too put-off by the lack of a virtual console as I've played a lot of the classic titles so many times (and seem to own them several times over, including the classic mini consoles) - although if you were new to this I can see why you would be disappointed, and it's less in comparison to what has come before. But, another positive is that it will help an already great indy-development scene to grow, and I'm sure it will get further expansions following release.

Am about 40 hours in to Octopath Traveller so far, have to say am really enjoying it.

I can understand the comments that some have made, saying the lack of a central character and story arc dilutes the story somewhat. What I will say is that while this is true to an extent, it does mean that you can focus and play on the stories you find interesting. I've gone with Alfyn as my main character, but otherwise am pursuing the stories of Oberyn, Primrose, Thereon and the hunter lady (I forget her name). It means I don't have to play the stories of those that I find less worthwhile, and the job system means that you don't really lose out from not having them in your party.

But the game's a great combination of 16-bit nostalgia, with a subtle but effective graphical update, the musical score is excellent and the combat system is engaging enough that you don't get tired with it (which is just as well, as you can end up fighting a lot)

Really good game, would thoroughly recommend it.

Well it's been more than a while since I posted on this thread, work during the warm seasons is a bit crazy and since I get a lay off during winter I finally had time to actually play something.

We bought Pokemon Lets Go! And I've got to say it's pretty damn good! It is a bit different from typical pokemon games, mostly because you don't fight wild pokemon, but instead capture them like the Pokemon Go on mobile, but it works really well to be honest. Other wise it's still a Pokemon game in every other way and is a lot of fun, I'm about 20 hours into it and enjoying every minute, it's making me look forward to the real full game we get in 2019.

I also picked up a story based game Called Death Mark. It's basically a book you read while being able to investigate and search for clues and such to progress the story. It's different but creepy and so far is a nice change of pace as far games go. I'm not too far in this one but thought I'd mention it. How about everyone else? I'm sure there's a few new Switch owners out there, or you just picked up something new

Ah great someone else commenting in this thread!

Is Pokemon Go worth getting to you think? Would be interested to know how the Pokemon caught transfer into the game - does it let you have them all at once (and if so doesn't it make the game a bit easy?) Does the combat etc. work in the same way as the traditional Pokemon games?

Still tried (and failed) to finish Octopath Traveller. Nothing worse than spending 50 minutes on a boss fight only to lose (you can tell its a Square-Enix game!) So am taking a break.
Played a lot of Dead Cells (which is absolutely exceptional, great game, but really, really tough) and also Overcooked for some 4-player cooking tomfoolery - that is an awesome multi-player game.

I got myself a Switch for Christmas. Ended up getting Smash Ultimate and Let's Go Eevee! I am really enjoying both of them.

Smash Ultimate is very smooth. Great fights and a lot of content other than just fighting each other. If you like Unlockables, Smash Ultimate is for you.

Let's Go Eevee! has been pretty great so far. I just made it to Cerulean City and I have a pretty good idea of who I am going to try to get and for my party by the end. On top of all the shinies I could be getting if I spend a little time catching. I usually get bored with filling the Pokedex, but I definitely see myself doing it this time. Looking in to getting one of those pokeballs for Mew.....

I borrowed Super Mario Odyssey from a friend and it has exceeded expectations. I have loved every minute of every level. I was a big fan of Super Mario 64, probably my all time favorite Mario game. This lives up to that. Exploration is fun and rewarding. Outfits are silly and hilarious. Boss Fights are fun and can be challenging. (Tip: If you normally find Mario games super easy, just play drunk!)

I want to get the new Mario Party game pretty soon. As well as pick up Octopath Traveller, but that will be after I get Darkest Dungeon for it. That has me real excited, I want that game on the go.

I would say you have probably listed about 200 hours + of playing time there Dreadwinter - be careful!

Would love to have a go at Smash Ultimate. Liked the look of the intro trailer - was very surprised at the one Nintendo character/hero (out of all of them) to survive the attack in it - I don't think many people would be able to guess who that would be!

There will be no Saber pokemon!

Sorry, Fate has me triggered with their insistence that Saber is going to be in the new Smash Bros in some way.

Pokemon Sword and Shield look pretty great. Excited about the starters. Grookey looks great and Scorbunny could be interesting. If Sobble ends up being Water/Psychic I am in.

Would really, REALLY like a regional form for Lapras (seeing as it's more or less Nessie as a Pokemon already anyway) where it's Water/Steel instead of Water/Ice. That typing change would do wonders.

What interests me is this, being on the switch, makes it the firstp roper pokemon game for the TV! Something that I've always been surprised that they've never done before. They sort of tried a few times as I recall you could play some pokemon games through your console, but it was never upscaled in visuals for the TV (or I might be miss remembering it).

This release, to my eyes, also marks the likely end of the 3DS line of handheld consoles. The Switch I think will take over mobile gaming for nintendo - which would make sense. 2 screens and touchpad and 3D (of which the latter most people don't actually use) - the 3DS was getting more and more quirky and it wasn't always good for it to have so many quirky things in a basic handheld unit.

The Super Game Boy let you play the pre-Ruby/Sapphire era games on your TV. I did that almost exclusively, as I had lost my original GB for a while when Red first came out.

I think Box or something let you play the GBA era stuff or your TV, or maybe something Gen 4. Once the SP was out there wasn't nearly the demand for this there was during the puke green era.

Has anyone watched the new Detective Pikachu film? I'll be honest I was absolutely dreading it, but it was extremely entertaining (as long as you like Ryan Reynolds, as a lot of the laughs come from his lines). Made me think of a slightly cuter, less crude version of Ted

Have been enjoying playing Diablo 3 on the Switch - the graphics aren't quite up to par, but it's brilliant being able to play in portable mode and on public transport.
