I'm baaaack! Thanks again to ZoBo for very kindly stepping in to run this last month when I couldn't.
Welcome all to the 25th round of the Unofficial Painting Challenge here on Dakka. For anyone who's unfamiliar with the format, this is a simple community challenge open to anyone on Dakka, the aim of the game being to paint a model or set of models relating to the month's theme and win points for doing so!
This month's theme is 'Primal'. As such, your entry should be a model or models that have a savage, animal, primitive or fierce vibe to them, for example a savage orc, a feral Wulfem, any sort of nature themed mini like a beastman or some Sylvaneth. As always, the theme is open to interpretation, so do go wild (pun unashamedly intended!) with your entries and be as creative with it as you like!
How To Enter
- You may enter up to 5 MODELS as a SINGLE ENTRY, and are permitted one entry per member per month. If you enter multiple models, they should ideally be related in some way, such as part of the same squad, unit or scene if you are doing a diorama
- You MUST post a 'proof' picture of your entry in the thread of the state it was in before you started working on it; this must be either unassembled, unpainted, primed or coated a single colour. Entries that do not submit a valid Proof Picture will not be eligible for voting.
- After this, you may post WIP pictures in this thread and your own if you wish, and on completing the entry, you may post up to 5 final pictures IN THIS THREAD that will then be used for voting. Please note that pictures in a montage or collage picture will be considered individual images for this purpose, so while these types of presentation are certainly acceptable, please keep the image limit in mind when compiling them. For example, a collage of 4 images and one separate image would count as your 5 picture allowance.
So What Do I Win?
- Points... and points mean... bragging rights for the next month! Following the vote, points will be awarded to every entrant. This year, the Points you receive will be equal to the Percentage of Votes your entry receives in the final Voting thread; if you get 10%, you get 10 points, if you get 6% you get 6 points, so on and so forth.
These points will be used to form a league table, which will be updated month on month as the results come in.
How Long Do I Have?
This challenge begins 1st of April and will end at midnight GMT on the 30th of April. After this, I shall compile the finished entries into a new thread, and voting will run for 5 days.

Three Morlocks for my Infinity Nomads. They generally throw down smoke grenades then charge suicidally through the clouds to hit people with their swords.
[spoiler]
After the fun I had with my HeroQuest player characters last year, I'll be entering a triumvirate of HeroQuest greenskins. An Ork, a Goblin and a Fimir.
Previously painted and looking pretty awful, they've already been stripped and are ready to go!
there was a particular model I wanted to paint for this, but I don't have it, and wouldn't you know it, GW's out of sodding stock here at the moment...so now I'm trying to decide between 3-4 other possible options I've got...hmm...decisions decisions...think I'll take a bit more time to think about this one...or I may just post a proof with all of them in it, and enter finals of whichever one I like best at the end of the month...we'll see
I had a bit of a think about my few potential entries, and decided the other couple didn't fit the theme quite as well as I'd like, so I'll save those to fit into future months themes ...decided to do a nice little fun mini diorama this month - I bought "The Chase" set from GW several months ago (oh wow...glad I did! - I just checked and I can't find it anymore! )...it's a little squig, being chased by a night goblin, being chased by a bigger squig ...I'd had my eye on it for a couple of years, and randomly added it on to an order I made a while back because I just wanted to paint it someday...and now seems like a good time!...it seems like a pretty good interpretation of "primal" to me, with the whole survival of the fittest/food chain thing
Awesome! Looking forward to this. I love seeing old school with new school paint.

This is a project I've been wanting to do for a while now. To make some meganobz from orruk brutes.. they may look a little under-armoured but the brutes are great models.
Next up to be represented from the Villains of Buzz Lightyear of Star Command is Wirewolf. It doesn't get much more primal than a Space Ranger who is turned to a werewolf.

I'm in with my SLAUGHTERPRIEST WITH HACKBLADE!!! Here's the proof:
He'll be painted in a somewhat unusual manner, as I'll be using him as a Herald in my Khorne Daemonkin army.
I was able to dig out my primed box and dust off the marauders for a pic. They’ve been lurking around the back of my workbench for a long time now. I’d going to try to do at least 4 of them this month.
I will be entering Croak Hunter from Privateer Press: Hordes.
Vejut wrote: Going to try to get tgis guy done
Really tempted by the rat ogre terminator kitbashes I did, snd I might do them instead, but we'll this thos first.
Not really sure what to do this month. Whittlesey is doing heroquest again, perhaps we could have our own little challange. The only non-marine figures ive got unpainted are a couple hordes of heroquest undead and greenskins. I'll poke thru the box of random figures and see if anything catches my eyes.

Keezus: Croc is a sebeki harbringer from Crocodile Games (appropriately enough). https://www.crocodilegames.com. Ssissal: I'd figure the orcs would count at a minimum.
Verviedi: I'm not the authority on it, but I'd be cool with that.
Seeing how good people are here I'm not very confident that I will receive any votes, but I really want to challenge myself and see what I can do in my current skillset. Also first time entering!
Is it okay if I have base already done or do I need to make a new one?
@Ninjapirate ,I'am Not going to win many if any votes either, you will likely get some entering a dragon if you paint it ok,i'am just doing some tiny spore mines, ohh and good luck with your first entry.

Well Ive never painted one before so its going to be a challenge for me. Thanks and good luck to you aswell!
I just started painting figures about 14 months ago. I highly recommend this challenge. Your first few figures will end up looking like poo in your eyes compaired to the work of some of the dudes and chicks here.
Thing you gotta remember is alot of these people have been painting for 5, 10, 20, 30+ years in some cases. So DO NOT get discouraged or look down on yourself. Look at it more like.. Your painting in the same room as all these other experts. You will learn so very much, specially from the few that post their progress pictures or desciptions of what they did to get what color/effect on something.
Do not hesitate to ask questions, alot of them. The people here are just like you and me. I dunno about you, but i love talking about my figures that ive painted. stuff ive tried that worked and stuff i tried that failed badly. Nobody cares if you dont finish by the deadline. I promise nobody will track you down and hold a gun to your head to paint, or to post pictures of your figures. I started most of the challenges last year, didnt finish all of them on time.. some took a few extra months, cuz life happens or ohh shiny new figure happens.
And for the love of God, before your start painting make damb sure you know what "thin you paint means" Because if you do not thin your paints. You will end up with stuff like these pictures below. I was like.. its thin-ish.. no if its not flowing like skim milk its not thinned enough. You will thank yourself for taking the time to learn how to do that properly. These three bikers were first things i painted, before a codex or reading the instructions on how to build them that came in the pack. I keep them to remind me where i started at. They lead my ravenwing attack squadrons 1 and 2 and the combat squad of 1 for the normal biker.
I apparently have a large box of the wow boardgame minis, so i have tons of non-marines or dnd figures that i can call on for this stuff in future.
This month ill be working on some of this green horde. I think one of each "type" as a test model to do the rest of the force over the remainder of the year.
OK so seeing as I didn't finish the last one thought I might try and get in on the action a little earlier this time around. So I will be entering two plague bearers and a herald of Nurgle this time...and will get them finished before the end of the month this time
SymbioticKaos wrote: OK so seeing as I didn't finish the last one thought I might try and get in on the action a little earlier this time around. So I will be entering two plague bearers and a herald of Nurgle this time...and will get them finished before the end of the month this time
I thought you were going for some of your GoreChosen?
Feel like I need to up my game after the last couple of months so I'm going to try and tackle a model that's been sat unpainted in my collection for well over a year now!! A Great Unclean One (using the Glottkin set)
Had this Minotaur looking dude on my desk for 3 or so years, might as well try and finish him. Was hoping to have him 100% scratch built but i may resort to using bitz to finish him. I likely wont be using much of the bare musculature aside from the chest, am hoping to achieve a ye olde carnival o' horrors look for the finished creature if you're curious.
For the record, it's been five months since my last, i keep them around... For some reason. Also the contents of that chicken bucket were slightly disappointing
I am up for the challenge this month. I went to Adepticon and got a swag bag with this model in it. I don't know of more things primal than the ultimate killing machine.
I think the whole point of this is to get minis painted that maybe would sit on the shelf or in the drawer of shame for a long time If I get pointers along the way, grand, if I improve even better. But the end all be all for me is seeing all the pretties done
Anyway, so first attempt ever at doing anything other than really priming with my airbrush:
Welcome to the challenge Ninjapirate (a dragon is a pretty impressive way to start ) and Shuma-Gorath, Good luck
Some pretty impressive entries already.
The colour transition on the wings looks great Guildenstern
@everyone - Let the Wookies Win!
My proof - Going for a savage ork/snakebite chariot conversion, as always haven't figured it all out yet but theres an idea in there somewhere.
p.s My job changed location on the 1st of April so I won't be around much during the week, ill still try to keep doing the challenges etc but will be on less. :(
I always have trouble remembering to take WIP shots...probably the main reason why I haven't really gotten into the whole blog thing yet
well, I'm mostly on the home stretch now really, just a few more details to do, maybe some touch-ups, then glue it all together I guess...here's where I'm at:
Spoiler:
^man...making that base was fun ...still not sure if I'm a fan of static grass, but whatever...the base, rocks, and cave are all made from cork tile, the tree branches are just bits of odd-shaped sprue roughed up a bit with a hobby knife, and the mushrooms were made by heating the end of some styrene rod with a lighter and flattening it down on my cutting mat, snip it off, repeat - super-easy
I actually got a couple of before-paint shots of the branches/mushrooms too:
I know! I was almost tempted to leave them as they were ...but I just couldn't resist the urge to do the traditional red, spotty, "fantasy forest" style with them, with the squigs, and the goblin and all
Posting here to announcce my intentions of entering, and hopefully I'll pick up a box of Saurus Knights today or tomorrow. I'll post an entry picture once I've assembled my 40k Ork Dino Ridas.
KommissarKiln wrote: Posting here to announcce my intentions of entering, and hopefully I'll pick up a box of Saurus Knights today or tomorrow. I'll post an entry picture once I've assembled my 40k Ork Dino Ridas.
aww man! I wish I'd thought of that! ...looking forward to seeing them!

Oh I heartily agree they need to be red with white spots. I just thought it was funny they looked like actual mushrooms in the scorched white.
Hoping to get some paint time in this weekend and get some shots of Conan. Hoping...

You know I actually put an orc rider on a cold one with some warbike guns as a test piece for this theme but really wanted to do the chariot idea so went with that. Looking forward to seeing your entry KommissarKiln.
My fingers are cut and superglued, and my nerves are shot, all from building these five. This is about as Primal as you're going to get from me, though.
Mechanicus Cyber-Assassin Team. Please ignore the painted models in the background, and the Avitarius.
Count me in. Trying my hand at another bomb squig sculpt (what's more primal than running straight at the enemy in order to detonate yourself?). Sure it looks like a demented chicken right now, but you won't be laughing when it blows the treads off the centerpiece in your armor division.
Proof:
I'm determined to keep it to a 25mm base and in proper scale/proportions this time, so he'll probably have different 'splody bits (the stikkbommz are just a bit large for the little fella), but you get the idea.
Dragons! Squigs! Alligators, Dinosaurs, and... Wookies! This promises to be another good month!
It's weird taking a month off, feels like a lot longer. Maybe next year I'll have to paint something for the spehs mehreen challenge.
Automatically Appended Next Post: allrighty, well, I think I might be done already ...it's been a real fun little project honestly...I kinda want to just keep doing diorama stuff now, or at least big models with big roomy bases or something
I guess there's a chance I could think of something else to add to it over the next 3 weeks, but at least for now, I'm calling it done
Omg ZoBo that diorama is incredible! Do you have a YouTube tutorial on how to make those mushrooms? I make pointy toadstools out of greenstuff for my fantasy bases, but would love to make some flat ones too!
Bottle wrote: Omg ZoBo that diorama is incredible! Do you have a YouTube tutorial on how to make those mushrooms? I make pointy toadstools out of greenstuff for my fantasy bases, but would love to make some flat ones too!
thanks! ...no tutorial that I know of, and I don't have the equipment/space/know-how/confidence to do youtube stuff myself ...but, it's realllly super-easy, trust me
here's a halfassed little pic-tutorial
Spoiler:
1: get a lighter and some plastic rod/sprue (if using sprue, trim off any lumps, and scrape down the edges, to make it vaguely smooth and round first )
(1mm styrene rod, 2mm styrene rod, and sprue, smoothed down at the end)
2: melt the end of the rod/sprue with the lighter: (disclaimer: the 1mm rod can be tricky...it melts/catches fire super quick, and can be a bit tricky to control to get a nice round cap, be careful )
3: press the melted end down onto a flat surface:
4: cut off at desired stalk-length...and you're done!
...this diorama was the first time I'd ever tried it, just sitting at my hobby desk messing around ...but it's so quick and easy and works surprisingly well!...and they come out so realistic too, because each one will be slightly different, and the edge of the cap usually curls in a little on the underside, because of how the melted plastic spreads out when you press it down...it's just perfect
Amazing! That tutorial is all I need. I'll pick up some of these rods from a local model train shop I know and try these on my next project! Thanks ZoBo
Bottle wrote: Amazing! That tutorial is all I need. I'll pick up some of these rods from a local model train shop I know and try these on my next project! Thanks ZoBo
...actually, sod it, I've been curious about how hard it'd be to make videos for a while now, so I just gave it a quick halfassed go, stuck my phone to my desk lamp with some blutack, and recorded a quick little demo - it's awful, came out sideways with massive black bars, and I didn't say a word...and the mushroom I made in it isn't my best, but it does show how super quick and easy it is I guess
If this can be snuck in, neat. If not, I'm here in spirit.
I put this fella together and painted him over the past three days - only undone picture I have is one from my cell phone after priming and starting on some base coats.
The end result:
I suppose that's as primal as it's going to get this month! Generic beastie for Mordheim/Necromunda/Dungeon Crawls etc.
Real sad I started my Slaughterpriest earlier, woulda done him. But, I do have a plethora of Dryads to get done. I'll start with 3, but if I have the time I might add 2 more. That OK Para?
My WIP, I've built the thing this morning, and damn, there are so many breakable parts on it! There is no way that this thing would survive being stored in foam, I see magnets in my future, lots of magnets...
So, first a shot of my new workspace under the loft bed in my parnters' flat...
Those spindly things look soooo breakable...
But the result is very impressive, now on to the hard part: painting...
Bottle wrote: Amazing! That tutorial is all I need. I'll pick up some of these rods from a local model train shop I know and try these on my next project! Thanks ZoBo

So got some work done today. Still blocking in basecoats. Kinda pissed at younger me. Lots of mold lines I never cleaned up before I primed them. Noticing a lot of flaws with the sculpts in general. Soft detail, and things that should be undercut/done in more parts, but ended up just a block of plastic.
So I’m not really enjoying this project. Going to try to see it through though. Just a bit of a slog.
@Nevelon: I usually try to hide the mold line with paint... failing that, I hit the mold lines with an exacto or a dab of liquid greenstuff if they are in a noticeable spot after I start painting. I am too anal to leave it alone usually.
Tyranid Spore Mine Cluster (Finished) Actually completed them days ago,but had problems taking pics due to random blurriness, weird orange glows, weird red glows, lack of sunlight, and other annoying environmental factors,
Learned a couple of things with these creepy bio bombs they look cooler than expected, thought they would be really dull, they paint up stupidly fast and the ease of painting was a welcome change, would like more mines but the pricetag is stupid, maybe if i find an alternate source not GW,Pop By my Blog/Lab to see the other Spore Mine Cluster,The Exploding Mines.
Born from the Maw of an Infestation A sore on the planetary crust of the blighted world, born with only the most basic of "Primal" Instincts with which to hunt it's pray,Bio Acid Strong enough to eat power armor,or poison powerful enough to dissolve flesh.
I think I should have started on a smaller, less complex kit for my first Arena Rex build. This one is really souring me on Red Republic's casting quality as it is taking significant preparation time. It has many pieces with fine details fastened to a resin sprue by comparatively huge gates. The leg she is standing on is badly warped. I used the hot water method to readjust and then put a .8mm rod up through her heel to her knee. Hopefully this will keep her from drooping, but I am not confident. There are chunks of resin obscuring detail in several areas where the original mold failed which will need resculpting, and lots of mold slip on the legs. Lots of joint filling needed at the arm sockets.
Here's my proof pic for this month. Varag Ghoul-Chewer, Orc Blood Bowl Star Player.
I took the pic nearly two weeks ago, before I went on holiday. I did a bit of painting while I was away, and have now nearly finished him, actually. It's the first Forge World miniature I've ever painted, weirdly.
If it makes you feel any better, I spent two full hours last night sculpting a single foot that I'm really not even happy with; at least your project will look amazing when it's done for all your efforts; mine I'm not so sure...
That wing looks pretty good Guildenstern! If the whole model turns out that well you should be very happy! As for my entry, I haven't really done much with it due to having other painting projects going on right now.
Well, base colors mostly done, and even started to wash the skin for the shade. Of course, the month's almost half over, and that's not even halfway...
Unfortunately I will have to withdraw from the competition before even entering, as the Saurus Knights I've been waiting to purchase are on back order for a second week now.
Holy Sh*&, you've opened my eyes and just blew my mind...thanks SlavetoDorkness!
Why have I never thought of this for Frostgrave!?
Plenty of great stuff this month...
Awesome job on the wing, Guildenstern. If the rest is as good your'e gonna have a seriously intimidating entry.
Great model, keezus - can't wait to see your awesome work on it.
Melcavuk - another really impressive model!
Nice nads, I mean nids, Smallchanges.
Haven't had much time to paint at all but good luck to everyone - it's shaping up to be another tough month.
And thanks all, for the support haha I'm having a hard time finding the wherewithall to really paint the Terrorgheist.. I guess part of it is I know it'll be used against me lol
Really like that idea as well Slavetodorkness - I love how you can use any figures for Frostgrave!
I am unfortunately going to have to step out of this month's challenge, I just got a huge amount of commission and I can't afford to be doing this for pleasure (although if any of you want a commission I would be happy to do it XD)
It looks like it's gonna be a race to the finish for me, I still have my 5 zone mortalis tiles, Ahriman, 9 veterans, 4 Support squad members and my tech priest to finish before the end of April. And I'm in Italy until Thursday. Without any paints.
CREEEEEEEEED wrote: I'm too lazy to actually edge highlight the damn thing so a dry rush will have to do.
Looks fine to me. Drybrushing is how I do the vast majority of my edge highlights. I have trouble keeping my work neat enough to do any kind of precision edge highlights the other way.

This.
Tanks give themselves insanely well to drybrushing, so it's usually not even worth the immense effort of doing it the other way.
Dance: lookin' good on the goff. Especially like the recreation of the position and background of the old book pic-had to give it several looks to tell them apart.
I pushed hard last night, got the gator to "just needs base", though considering some varnish first.
I'm finished (I've actually been finished for a while, except for the blood on the swords/axes, but I've been waiting for a lightbox to arrive).
These old sculpts aren't the standard we see now, but I love that little goblin model!
Great work from everyone else so far!
Not really been commenting much recently, so...
@Zobo - love the diorama. That goblin looks like a right mischievous little fella!
@Elbows - great generic beastie!
@Guildenstern - that dragon's looking great, but looks like a hell of a lot of work!!
@SmallChanges - love the smoothness of the finish.
@El-T - that disc looks great. Looking forward to the finished models!
@Dance - I'm an oldhammer guy, so loving the 2nd ed Goff. My bro still fields those in some games!
@Whittlesey40k - they turned out real nice ...man...there's just something about those old sculpts isn't there?...I mean, technically speaking, they've got nothing on the newer sculpts, but somehow they just have an entirely different degree of character
Old School is best school. That is all. Nice classics in this thread! And some nice new stuff as well. Looks to be a fun month.
Done with my painting, but need to set up the lightbox for pics. Hopefully get that done sometime next week; going to be busy this weekend.
Lost a lot of momentum on this project, but saw it through. No idea when the last 3 guys are going to get paint, and I still have more to build. But from an AoS POV, I’m the only guy with a Death army in the area, so I like to show the flag there on the table. Not a lot of push to polish up my chaos for the field.
Still feels a little good to get these guys off the back of the bench; they’ve been staring at me for a good number of years now.
Just checking in... the sculpt is going reasonably well, just taking a tremendous amount of time. All that's left is to do is finish the lower jaw and fit it w/ some nasty teef. And clean up the stikkbommz which I'm now wishing I had done before I got all excited about the progress I was making and just glued them in there.
I feel like basing this guy properly will make all the difference in the world and I haven't even started on the base yet. In the (likely) event that I finish the sculpt but don't manage to get any paint on him by the end of the month, I'm going to take a page out of Bottle's playbook and suggest the following themes for next month's comp:
1. Squiggly Beasts
2. It Came from Da Drops!
3. KaBlaam!
I also plan on doing a step-by-step on my P&M blog, so if you're interested in the process, keep an eye out for that; probably this weekend some time (?)
they're looking great already man! love the tankbusta bomb hats
also, regarding themes for next month, yeah, I'd be in favour of some kind of "explosive" theme too...really kinda need to get both some tankbustas, and rokkit launcha deffkoptas painted up...
So heres the finished Slaughter Priest. Really happy with ihow it turned out. Even happier that my photos dont suck as much as last months. So happy all round.
@n1ceguypaul - nice work! big improvement in the picture quality, and oh man, that poor stormcast (good! )...also, uh oh...looks like I have some pretty mean competition in the fancy woodland mini-diorama category now!
Cheers @zobo for the big up. Long way to go before i crank out the quality that you produce. Glad that you think the photos are coming along been a loot of trial and error with the pics and backgrounds etc. Just hoping now to get consistant painting done acroos all thenever ending tide of grey plastic.
Good job to all those finished models and cant wait to see the rest of them. Keep up the awesome work guys.
Quick wip have his base ready and put him together before work today.
Now just need to glue pin him to his base, get his horns and tail glued on and fill the gaps before Wednesday.
Also his 80mm base is a bit small for him.
CREEEEEEEEED wrote: It's getting to the point in the month where I'm worrying about finishing.
Ha, I've only just put my entry together... and it's either going to work and be awesome, or turn out crap and leave me with about 3 days to improvise something else! Living life on the edge!

Ha, I put my entry together at the beginning of the month, and I still haven't gotten past basecoating.

I have similar feelings atm, seems I've got even less time then I thought I would this month, should have done a single model really but meh.
Congrats on finishing n1ceguypaul, the base adds to the model very well.
An argument can be made that Khorne or Slaneesh would suit the theme better than Papa Nurgle, but I think there's still something pretty primal about letting a demon share your body and add a limb or two... That, and I wanted to paint something horrifically grimy!
First of all, Congratulations! to everyone! There are seriously badass entries everywhere Glad everyone seems to be enjoying it!
Now, I'm quite happy! I'm finished! They were taking much longer than I thought and I had to complete them by today! Tomorrow I'm going on vacations to Hong Kong so there was no way in hell I would be able to complete them if I failed today's deadline!
Here are my chosen 5 pics and the others are just extra angles
Other brutes and some Extra Angles just for fun:
Spoiler:
Edit: I switched one of the pics There! Now it's final!
Cheers @midget gems looking forward to seeing yours finished.
Its good to see the hard work paying off towards the end of the month for everyone.
@Paradigm that nurgle marine looks sic (pun intended) always amazed with the quality of painting her at dakka.
Really glad i joined and dived in here with all you guys.
Well at least they photograph well. Glad to see the end of those guys. I’ll ignore the fact I have 3 more on the bench staring at me, and more still on sprue.
On a different note: Would it be possible to bump the picture count up to 6? While it didn’t make a difference for me just painting 4 guys, with 6 pics you could do one of each of the 5 allowed models, plus one group shot. Not a huge deal, but would make composite pics a bit easier.
Well it is late in the month. I've already started my project for this challenge, but I forgot to post up the proof picture until now! Hope that is still ok.
I didn't have a great idea for this month, but I did have my box of Morlocks for the Nomads faction in Infinity. While I don't normally think 'Primal' when I think of the Nomads (who are high-tech and live in space), the Morlocks are bioengineered human-animal hybrids pumped up on combat drugs before battle. Their role is as near suicidal shock troopers, charging through a veil of smoke grenades to stab people with swords. Seems fairly primal to me, given the setting.
This month I went to Warhammer World for the doubles event last weekend. I wanted to get some meganobz ready for it but they are a bit pricey if you want to run anymore than 3. So I kitbashed/converted up some from some orruk brutes. Nothing particularly innovative but it was great fun and easy and I'd highly recommend it. The bits were left overs from ork boyz, a meganob pack and I think 1 burna.
I'd have liked to spend a bit longer painting them up but I needed them done for my list. I didn't have my proper camera with me today so my phone had to do which always seems to over expose silver areas... sorry.
Really need to get a better background, and try to find a middle ground between "Auto-corrected white balance that obscures all the details", and "enter the mists!"
6 pic limit seems doable. I'll leave it for this month for everyone who's already submitted but I'll change it next month (if I don't mention it in the OP, someone remind me! )
@Moolet those are great! Especially if you don't want the mechanical look more I think, and the figures are bigger, which is really nice.
My son's Terrorgheist is done, hopefully he'll be happy with it and its reign of terror will start soon hah
I put pics in my gallery, but I don't like how the resolution seems to change on them, making them look not as nice, so I uploaded some to my own site as well (pics above)
Some good work being done in this thread! I myself am regretfully bowing out for this month. Too much other stuff hobbywise being done. I still look forward to the voting, though.
Whoops, I just noticed i messed up my piccy, I've redone it now.
That Terrorgheist is brilliant, visually stunning.
Also a huge fan of Modock's and Vejut's entry this month.
The bomb squigs are also excellent, I so want some of them.

The slight increase in size makes up for the lack of mechanical bits in my opinion. They seemed to go down quite well at the doubles event in Warhammer world, no one batted an eyelid in regards to playing against 'incorrect models' one guy even suggested I should be allowed to play the assault cannon guy as an assault cannon.. heh.
Well done to those that have finished so far, with 2 days left I'm needing a kick up the arse to get finished in time.
Nice conversions Moolet, the AOS Orcs do seem prime for conversions and nice models to start with, I am definitely planning to get my hands on some in the future. The heat damage on the assault guns barrel went a lot better than some of my own attempts.
Some really stand out work there Guildenstern, the wings are still my favourite part
Final pics of Varag Ghoul-Chewer. This is the first Forge World miniature I've ever painted. I'm really happy how he turned out.
A charging Ork star player fits the definition of primal, doesn't it? Varag's like a force of nature coming towards you, then through you, then stepping on you, then coming back for another go if you happen to get up.
Loads of great work...
Moolet - love those models and love your conversion work - so seemless;
Guildenstern and GiraffeX - great dragons!
I am blown away by Modock's ogre - awesome textures on the metal and rocks;
in awe of Paradigm's style and speed as always; and
can't wait to see Tuftoof's bomb squigs!
I wasn't sure I'd get finished but here's my dinosaur...see you all for 'Boom!' next month...
Some fantastic stuff here this month! Lots of great old school orks, in particular.
Here is my finished entry. Sorry about the terrible lighting, it has been dark and rainy here for days. Hopefully I'll get some better lit pictures some other time.
Three Morlocks for my Infinity Nomads. They generally throw down smoke grenades then charge suicidally through the clouds to hit people with their swords.
Going to call it done. I am going to eventually swap that severed head with a different one... but still waiting for the bit to come in the mail, so the stock one will have to do for now...

OK! UNTIL NEXT MONTH!

You can try adding a second lamp and have them shine on your model at 45 degrees from each side. It will help hide the stark shadows.
Pretty impressive you where able to get that done so quickly EmberlordofFire8
PossumCraft the Red looks a lot better than the blue did, brave to change half way through but a good swap with the end result
Chris56 - you have some really nice colour transitions on your Carnosaur, great work.
You always have very interesting models keezus, your collection must be pretty spectacular by now.
Nice work on the flying Beastman thing El-Torrminator, its come out very well.
Since its midnight now I'm putting my paint brush down, not quite finished but mostly done, I'll take some proper pics in the morning during the amnesty.
Heres a terrible pic using flash in the mean time.
Did not have time ti finish the base which was going to by painted as marble tiles. nether the less might as well still enter.
I went from liking the paint job to hating it again and again throughout the painting of it, i like it now but definitely want to try something different for the next bronze thing i do.
methebest, that bronze/metal bull looks really good, the Verdigris works very well, I just got a pot of the GW stuff so looking for excuses to use it.
As Promised here are my final Pics
About 90% finished but missing the last few touches to make it really stand out, also a base...... I order one to arrive on the 12th of April but its still not come yet and I don't have any spare chariot bases in my bits box :(
Going to call it a day there, vote will be up later! In the mean time, hit the banner in my sig and hop on over to the next round, where things are already exploding!

OMG this is amazing. I love everything - the models, the colors - perfect. I am stealing the draft horse Seraphon idea too. Great work.

Thanks a lot Groo, your more than welcome to steal whatever ideas you like, I'm happy that someone has found inspiration for one of my models, one of the main reasons I do this. Have fun with your own conversion.
