My bet will be somewhere along the ballpark of 4 (august, with new GHB) to 8 (christmass) months and will do so with a smidge of additional SC!

Implying they will get one. Given the prices of every ship, I'd expect them to get a Battleforce instead.

An Admiral, unit of Arkonauts, and a Gunhauler would come in about $130 Usd. Other SC are far better value. I wouldn't put it past the new GW.
The style of the army is great, and I can't wait to see what's next, or even if there will be further additions to new and old armies.

I'll be deeply shocked if they don't get something for Christmas. Their mass popularity deserves at least a Santa Overlord with airship sleigh on their community site for the holidays.
I'm excited for what might be on the menu for next year's releases as well.
2016 we got 3 Destruction forces,1 Order and 1 Death.
2017 we're getting 3 Order, 2 chaos. (not counting Khorne battletome or ShadeSpire)
So maybe 2018 will be 3 Death factions with pirate Grots?

These guys have finally got me into AoS, they are brilliant- love the whole range. I can definitely see them getting a battle force set at Christmas and I hope they get a ShadeSpire gang [?].

Hmmmm, element games seem to have limited stock of these. Are GW limiting the amount they are giving to online sellers?
47181
Post by: Yodhrin
Probably just wary of overselling preorders thanks to GW's habit of shorting indie retailers if a release proves really popular and they need extra webstore stock.
On the Bobblenoughts I've come to agree with ninthmusketeer and silverstu, I really like 'em, and at first they were the part of the release I was least keen on. Still not quite sure of that Tophat McMechabaron character version, but the slightly derpy artwork of him makes me like him a little more than I thought I would.
Anyway I'm surrendering to the inevitable and planning out a small force of these guys - once I start coming up with mental 40K conversion ideas for steampunk Skitarii drop regiments from a gas giant Forgeworld, I expect I'm past the point of no return.

Question - do GW stores still get a "store copy" of new books you can look through before you buy? Considering I'm more likely to end up using these in Dragon Rampant than AoS the rules aren't hugely valuable to me so I'd only be buying the book for the fluff, and I've been singularly unimpressed with that aspect of AoS so far, so I'm not keen to chuck down GW prices on a book that I might end up reading once then sticking on a shelf to taunt me about my poor impulse control(hallo thar, Iron Hands special edition SM codex in which GW, IMO, ruined your fluff).

Actually, they appeared at the same time, both in 1987 with rogue trader and 3rd ed.
So we can leave it at GW being unimaginative instead of searching the pirates' missing bikes and leather jackets.
GHB covers you, plus giving you missions and a path to glory system. pretty nifty for 20 euros.
These, though, will need of the Kharadron book as this year's GHB didn't have as much foresight.

I'm very on the fence about getting some Thunderers for my Order army. All armed with mortars (which I think I could get enough of, true Kharadron players are probably going to prefer the cannons and deck-sweepers) they would be awesome, but it's a bit of an uninspiring modelling project.

Post by: Binabik15
Seeing how the mortar is more of a rifle grenade, making more should not be that hard. In a pinch Ogryn grenades would work, or the drill bombs on the vessels. Rifles there are more than enough to choose from, but I might create a grenade crossbow, WW1-style.
The Gunhauler should be cheaper, IMO.

Nice tacit defence of GW there, making it out as if they're not unique down here, but this site already has a Kanluwen. We don't need a second. But that aside, this box is terrible value. 5 guys w/5 guns, + 5 specialist guns. Take the (also stupidly priced) Devastator Squad. It's AUD$8 more, also 5 guys, and look what you get in it: 2 Missile Launchers 2 Grav-Cannons 2 Plasma Cannons 2 Multi-Meltas 2 Heavy Bolters 2 Lascannons 1 Combi-Plasma 1 Combi-Flamer 1 Combi-Melta 1 Combi-Grav 1 Storm Bolter 1 Power Sword 1 Power Axe 1 Power Fist 1 Lightning Claw 1 Thunder Hammer 1 Chainsword 1 Plasma Pistol 1 Bolt Pistol 1 Grav Pistol 1 Partridge 1 Pear Tree There's a disconnect here. It's almost the same price for a vastly inferior kit. I mean I think they look fantastic, but the amount of options you get in the box is total gak.

While the models here look great, seeing airships and gatling guns and thunderhammers and power armor makes this stuff look way more suited to 40k.
Actually most of the stuff looks like it came out of Warmachine stylistically, at least visually.
Doesn't really seem to fit with a fantasy universe, but I guess Age of Sigmar isn't really trying to stick with that anymore either.

The airships and the paint jobs on them are terrific as is the level of detail.

Gotta feed those dingos somehow. Automatically Appended Next Post:
SC boxes haven't been released alongside the armies. The closes was the DW kit 2-3 months after release, but then again, DW kits are basically marine kits with an extra sprue, so they can serve DW players and SM players. Releasing an SC box alongside its army wouldn't make much financial sense, anyway. Sales of a new range are going to be high at launch. You'd lose revenue on individual kits if there was a better bundle like an SC available at the same time. You want to save that for a few months later to boost sales after that "new army smell" wears off. GSC still haven't gotten a SC box, and they came out at pretty much the same time as DW. I would expect sometime around June or July to see GSC and DoT get SC boxes, possibly alongside KO, but I'd really expect to see a KO SC closer to Christmas.

I'm glad there aren't multi kit ships this time. We would end up paying more for one ship, and end up with a bunch of worthless leftovers. The only thing missing is a couple more head options so if you field a few then the crew can get unique looks.
Not sure if I like Duncans painting guide or the WD one more. The WD one has drakenhof nightshade for the armor, a more rich purple and different golds. Duncans scheme is a bit more dull in color but also quicker to paint with a single wash over the entirety of the model. Gotta make some decisions about how i'm gonna do this...regardless I know I like the gold/purple scheme the most.
Wouldn't mind seeing a Kharadron Overlords ranking system/naming on this site either...

Would make a lot of sense to do so - by smooshing out this release, they might get slightly less of a noticeable revenue "hole" between the announcement of 8th and the ability for us to throw our money at them.

So an Ironclad is way cheaper and Gunhaulers more expensive than I hoped for. Do I regret getting a frigate now? Somewhat. Will I buy a zogging huge ship over two smaller ones at first? Totally!
How.much for the three man boxes? Or are they actually on a seperate weekend?! The Death Guard dream is dead and buried. A M2O releade of Necromunde gangs for Shadow Wars or something like this would be needed to pad out a weekend with just one AoS kit.

Well that ironclad price is at least 10 pounds cheaper than I expected. Will be getting one for sure. A 4 week window for these guys is pretty long though. Are they padding until 8th edition?
I'd say they had a bit of a mess in their schedule. Just remember that adeptus titanicus was "supposed" to come out on april.

Just ordered a load to finally start my Aqshy and Ghyran warriors. That Ironclad will provide a fine service from Chamon.
Since it seems the KO will be the week after aswell, at least this means the next WD will be chock full of brand new stuff.

There is some trimming required to torso fronts and inside the old Squat arms but I am tempted to get some more to add to my Imperial Guard. I have a hefty amount of old Squat arms and the original lasguns.

Epic squats had the Overlord Airship as one of their units. Personally I would go with counts as Tau, with Pirates as Firewarriors, the small ships as Piranas, the medium as Devilfish/Hammerheads and the big one as some superheavy. The guys with the balloons on their backs as Crisis Suits.

The arkanaut hanging off the side of the ironclad has a paintbrush in hand! I love cool little characterful details like that. And the aetheric navigator is a great model as well. It does suck the release is going to be dragged on until the skywardens are on the shelves in about two weeks....

I don't think is gonna be a "Not-Mordheim" from AoS.

Looks like the release of the skirmisher is quite close (May or June). This issue is focusing on the anniversary. We have already seen all products showcased. There may be hidden hints but I havent read the entire issue yet.
Have you seen my post in the 8th Ed thread? Next month teaser is definitely for 40k but the June issue will be released mid month, on the 16th!
This is just my guess but I could see the new starter set being released on the 17th and a snapfit MkX NuMarine miniature will be sold with each magazine (cover extra). The AoS skirmisher either before or afterwards. As it is the only product teased in May issue it looks more like before 8th imo. What could GW release otherwise, Death Guard?

I think it was. Forget about not making money, the fault laid primarily on the management of the system. With the death of fantasy, big enough of an uproar was made that shaked down the rotten fundations and this allowed for the change and improvement. I honestly think this couldn't have happened to fantasy because it would have implied it came from the original administration that was the source of the problem. Now we've got a chance.

I just hope that if this is "Not Mordheim" that they treat the fans with a little more respect, acknowledging that book-keeping isn't anathema to game design automatically.
The areas where Shadow-War is losing interest in our group is, almost across the board, the places where they dumbed it down from Necromunda. The core is obviously terrific, but boy does it feel like they thought basic math, and record keeping would terrify modern gamers.

Yeah unless its Demons or something just for fun like the new Grombrindal model, making a unit that's for use in both fantasy and 40K would be a unusual move by GW.

Yeah, a game where most basic units have a lowest model count of ten is hardly what I'd call a skirmish game, but to each their own.
98515
Post by: Lord Kragan
It depends really on the definition. As Mymearan said they've never marketed AoS as a skirmish game. Furthermore it's really "rigid" to actually be skirmish when it comes to the distance models can keep between each other. 1'' between model is loose formation for ranked battles tbh.

In AoS, you can, if you really want, put the models in your units in lines to form a square. You can move them as a square block. Some AoS players even use movement trays, and square bases.
I always took comments that ' AoS is a skirmish game', as bitter WHFB/T9A players attempt at an insult, though I never really understood why a skirmish game should somehow be inferior in the first place. :-)

Must be talking about Star Wars Armada, cuz Shadow War Armageddon is A+ idea and A+ game.
I'd like a streamlined, updated Mordheim, with AoS mechanics. There's a lot of rose-tinted glasses with Mordheim - lots of warbands were just uncompetetive and unfun to play, many upgrades totally useless, and the experience system was broken.

Yeah, not letting you off with that without a proper justification, because plenty of us still play Mordheim right now and the idea that any of those things are true(or at least, any more true than they are for any GW game, AoS included) sounds like hot, stinking, out-in-the-sun-uncollected-for-a-month rubbish to me chief. Which warbands? Which upgrades? How were they useless? How was the XP system broken?

Frankly AoS skirmish sounds great, but I think games like the One Page stuff can scratch the same itch. One-Page even has a skirmish game with forces that coincide not only with Oldhammer models, but now AoS-setting forces, too.

Post by: AegisGrimm
Sure.
https://onepagerules.com
The early versions were a direct translation of model and weapon names in many places, but in the new versions of the rules (available on the site) are generic to avoid copyright infringements- for example the Eternal Wardens of fantasy are Stormcast Eternals, and their weapons are not AoS names.
The games are meant to be very simple and fast, so don't be surprised at their leanness.
Still look forward to what GW will put out, and how it measures up to Hinterlands, which already gets tons of points for existing out of sheer love of the game.

Bottle wrote:Hey everyone, thanks for the comments about Hinterlands and the new Skirmish game. I'm currently on the down low at the moment because I have a hectic job application IRL - otherwise I would be jumping around the internet shouting how excited I am for this new game.
No one needs to worry about C&D's or anything like that. I have made GW aware of Hinterlands at multiple instances and they have always chosen to let us just have some fun with it (despite the fact that I borrow lots of official art to use in the book).
I imagine this game is going to be very similar to Hinterlands, mainly because I tried to keep Hinterlands as true to the core AoS rules as possible, and I am totally fine if this outright replaces Hinterlands with an official version (which I imagine it will).
The reason being there will always be space for fan-made content in a skirmish campaign setting. For version 3 of Hinterlands I didn't want to focus on the core-rules anymore but instead bring together a wealth of new battleplans, Times of War, unique command traits for sub-factions, and anything else etc etc
I will still be able to do exactly that, but as an add-on for the official version instead of my own core rules.
So, I hope this puts any worries to rest. I didn't work on this new game in any capacity, Hinterlands won't be going anywhere for people who still want to use those rules, but I myself will be fully embracing this new game and seeing what cool things we can make for it!

I totally agree with the first half of your sentence.
But, can I ask you something... exactly, why you spend so much energy hating something as irrelevant as a game system?
I'm not asking this in a sarcastic way. Just that when I hate something, normally I need to spend mental energy doing so, and generally only makes me more angry and prejudices me. I don't find the reason why someone could spend that mental energy about something as this.
EDIT: Unless you have lose your job for the cancellation of WHFB? Or something like that. I don't count having spent thousands of dollar/Euros/pounds in it, because you have still your rules, your miniatures, and have used them for years, so you have received the service you payed for.

Well, I didn't until those Kharadron Overlords were released...
So now I'd like to get some - for AoS Skirmish - at least to start!

Do you think Skirmish will be that 'new' cut-down Starter Set that was rumoured recently?

That would be amazing. I would love for a skirmish approach to become more normal in people's experience of both AoS and 40k.

UltraPrime wrote:Do you think Skirmish will be that 'new' cut-down Starter Set that was rumoured recently?
I don't think so, because they haven't changed the number of units. It would still be 4 units of sigmarines and a character, and 4 units of blood blooders and a couple of characters. That is the current starter without a couple of the characters for £50.
That's still a lot. They might do that, but I'd hope they'd either do something like Storm of Sigmar with 13 minis or something new, hopefully with different factions to the other three starters, though I'd anticipate them pushing Sigmarines as the new space marines.
Basically I want a low model count game and with improved rules. A skirmish game might be a good place for them to test out some improvements to the rules.
We still don't know for certain that it won't just be a section in the Generals Handbook.

This might be interesting. Really loving a few of the newest AOS minis, and the fluff seems to be more interesting now that they stopped focussing on the SCE so much, but really can't get into it since the rules are so shallow.
If the skirmish rules turns out to be interesting, i'll probably start a few warbands

If you are after skirmish experience, I recomend you the Hinterlands Proyect by Bottle! Seriously, I doubt GW will do a better job at making a Skirmish system for AoS than him.
EDIT: Obviously, if you are after warhammer/ AoS Skirmish experience. You can find other skirmish experiences out there!

And yet you are still here. If you dislike Age of Sigmar so much how come you are in an Age of Sigmar forum? Please don't tell people what they should and shouldn't say? If they like the product they are perfectly in their right to do so. Also you have the perfectly right to dislike/hate something. So the question is, if you dislike/hate Age of Sigmar so much how come you are here? Why not go to a Fantasy forums with what you love?
Having this much hate inside is not healthy. I should know, been there myself and realized the problem is with me not Games Workshop or who/what ever. So if you dislike so much then don't go into an Age of Sigmar forum and be at peace.

I'm sady to hear that, but for my months on this kind of forums I have found that many communities in the states/canada are of that kind. A really sad thing, at least to me. My group is pure narrative driven, so to us, playing with fan-made rules is quasi mandatory to many of our campaings.
If thats the case, I wish for a good ruleset for AoS Skirmish so you can have a good time with your group. Those Kharadron Overlords deserve to be used for everyone! Maybe that way GW will be more "animated" to push really original factions like that and not more Stormcast!

Thanks for the plug on my Hinterlands rules, Galas. The plan is for the next version of Hinterlands to sit on top of AoS Skirmish rather than offer an alternative, the rules will be fully compatible and then players can choose to add on as many of the rules as they like. All of them or just a few depending how open they are to house rules.

For now I'm convinced that I'll still use the complete Bottle's aproved Hinterland ruleset package, but glad to hear that you have more plans to add content to it! It totally suck when a company put a official thing over a fan-proyect (Even if the fan proyect is leagues superior) because like 95% of people will just jump in the official one!

Thanks for the vote of confidence! I honestly don't mind if everyone goes to the official Skirmish game over mine, as I will be strongly looking into doing that myself. If the rules are tight and offer a good amount of playability I will work only on fun new Battleplans/campaign systems and things like that. If I think there is room to build on the rules themselves I will probably take the popular parts of the Hinterlands rules and present them as a series of house rules to go with AoS Skirmish.
All in all, really exciting times! I'll be helping run a Skirmish Friday night at a tournament in September so I will plan to get something out for that in the Summer :-)
Just need to see what this AoS Skirmish is like! (I am sure it'll be awesome).

Brand new, was only announced like a week ago or so in the white dwarf.
Bottle paved the way with the Hinterlands Skirmish rules, and GW took note - now we know to a serious extent. Ultimately we're still lacking details - I'd assume at this point Bottle must know, but has probably signed an NDA (ALL COOL, WE' LL WAIT.)

It'll be the second game slot of the Wednesday, so I think it starts 6PM. We're in British Summer Time right now too, so we might be 2 hours in front of Spain.
As for giving any hints, Nercronoxx is right that I am not allowed to reveal anything, so you'll have to tune in and find out

As long as they don't copy paste the injury charts like they did in the previous RPGs (which doesn't work well for Space Marines), then yes.

I don't want to put words in Bottle's mouth, but I think he is just being invited along to play the game. The rules were written by James Gallagher ( the same guy who did the gangs of commoragh game). Given the lead times on GW development, it would be interesting to know how much of an influence Hinterlands had over the final product.
Still cool to get Bottle on to showcase the new rules. Looking forward to watching it.

I'd say this had a far shorter lead time, since there was no mini designing hampering it. Look at SoH, it took less than a year so I "can" see them having managed to do so in time.

It really depends on the amount of new content in the book.
Is there new artwork, new photos which needed to be taken (almost certainly), etc.
I doubt this has had more than 6-7 months lead time, which would fall in the timeframe when the print files for Gangs of Commoragh would be finalised.

Hey, never forget that the AoS General's Handbook, which largely "saved" AoS, and now shapes 40k, was essentially HeelenHammer/SCGT. New GW is definitely not afraid to recognize an outsider's excellent work!

I love Bottle's stuff.
The ruleset focuses on getting a serious force on the table and actually make sense in concept and execution.
One of the issues, ( The main one) that !@#%ed me up was that the background, and how it was presented did not include the obvious.
Bottle's game actually enhances it, and If I were Bottle, I would use the game as an introductory job interview. Make no mistake, young yeoman, the Infamous THEY are watching you, and you will be approached at some point. Gargantuan-teed.

Post by: Bottle
Thanks for the vote of confidence, Grot 6! Hinterlands was really fun to make and see it grow. Overall I am really happy to see GW take the helm now because it means I can sit back and enjoy painting/playing a bit more and start working on whatever project next takes my fancy - it might be something to go with AoS Skirmish or I might do something more akin to roleplaying in AoS/open board WHQ (that would again sit on top of the AoS Skirmish rules)... and then there's another part of me that wants to do something for the new 40k. Not "Hinterlands 40,000" because there are already loads of popular kill-team fansets + SW:A, but I certainly have an idea of *something* cooking in my brain right now.
Anyway, I will certainly come back with pics and reports after the games. AoS Skirmish is going to be really exciting for everyone I think! :-)

In the current Generals handbook this is 256 points (I think, I don't play AoS).
I'm wondering if the game will be very shooty, particularly as you've gone big on guns with a wizard leader. I'd love it if Skeleton warriors were a practical choice.

Bottle's army has a lot of shooting in it anyway, this seems like a reasonable representation of the whole army so I wouldn't worry about it being cherry picked to take advantage of a shooting meta. And Bottle isn't really into that anyways.

I was thinking of things like Mordheim and Frostgrave where missile focused builds tend to be better or substantially better than melee builds.

Post by: Bottle
Oh, I am only packed to the teeth with guns because this is a Freepeople's army! I have multiple skirmish warbands now and many of them have no shooting what-so-ever.
The main thing with AoS is the gun ranges are tiny now (those Handgunners only have a range of 16"), so they're not going to last long against something like Crypt Flayers which I know my opponent Ben is bringing as they'll be hurtling towards me at 12" a turn!
Also as you'll see later the battleplans for AoS Skirmish are great and encourage mobility just like the other AoS ones. Of course it's also important to have lots and lots of LOS blocking terrain.
I've got a Death Warband too, led by a Necromancer that includes a load of Skeleton Warriors so I would say they are a great choice (even if it's just to keep the Necromancer alive longer by taking his wounds). Spirit Hosts are the true gem though! :-)

GW's still stuck in the "1.7 : 1" mentality, so the £40 sets will be $68-$70 and Mausoleum will be $85. And the mat will be $85 as well based on the other mat pricing.

Id assume they would make it 9.99 for the Book.
Im curious if the box sets for this are full boxes or just random amounts.
For Khorne set, its 149$ retail of stuff for 50$. Id buy a few of these...

I'm really curious as to those box contents. Worries me if it's too good of deal we end up with a Shadow War supply scramble.
Hoping the exalted deathbringer is the spear carrying one, as I'm missing him and he's gotten quite scarce around these parts.
If these end up being pretty heavily discounted (based on what those Khorne contents might be), it would've been a perfect opportunity to bundle up Fyreslayers into a manageable deal that people would have wanted to jump on.
Local FLGS said the price on the Fyreslayers has been the biggest hurdle for a lot of dwarf players. They like the sculpts, can't stomach the price.

Several of the Start Collecting! sets are up to 50% off over buying separately, so I don't see why these sets would be any different.
My only speculation is that the Khorne set includes AoS Blood Warriors instead of the multipart ones. Or, it's just a tremendously good deal.

Stormcast Eternal Hammerstrike Brethren £40
Khorne set has Wrathmongers, Exalted Deathbringer and Blood Warriors, don't know about the others.
Also coming is a new Soulblight Necorpolis Battle Mat (4 x 4 again) and a Sigmarite Mausoleum, £50, is two Garden of Morrs combined.
Oh, and new 40k apparently 'end of the month', but no specific date given.
Hi Matt
Do you know what is in the Flesh Eater and Ironjawz sets? I'm more interested in Undead or Orks.

As silly as it might sound, don't do straight conversions for the GBP to USD price.
GW has "price brackets" that they use in lieu of conversions, since currency conversions fluctuate a bit.

Gun down the flayer first and you'll have good odds I think. With it's mobility and fly it can get into your face and has the best ability to assassinate your wizard, with it out of the way you can focus on the ghoul king. Leave the horror for last since it will be the most resilient and also drops notably in effectiveness once the king is dead.

Current rumor of contents
Khorne:
5 Blood Warriors
5 Wrathmongers
1 Aspiring Deathbringer
Stormcast:
3 Liberators
2 Retributors
3 Prosecutors
1 Knight-Questor
Ghouls:
20 Ghouls
3 Horrors
Ironjawz:
5 Ardboyz
5 Brutes
1 Wierdnob Shaman
my take:
the Blood Warriors would be recut AoS Starter models, as the 10-man box set is 10 dudes and options across three sprues. It's not like five models, twice.
the Stormcast models are almost certainly recut AoS Starter models, or at least the Liberators and Retributors. The Prosecutors may be the full kit.

Yeah, waste the flayer before it closes in.
The king is being counted as a basic ghoul, right?

Hmmmmm. If that's the case, a little hard to really judge savings. I mean there is some but...
If its your recut khorne dudes, their value is about 15$ for 5. 30 For Deathbringer (please be spear) and 57 for Wrathmongers Making it 102USD worth of stuff for 65. Not horrible, but a full box would be much better. If its the Standard big axe deathbringer, think I will just buy the book as I really don't want yet another of him, and rather have the full options for the khorne guys

Yup, the Flesh Eater Courts set works out to msrp $107 and the Orruks to about $101. So it looks like right around 100 or slightly over, for $65.
My source says Aspiring Deathbringer so that'd be Aspiring Deathbringer with Goreaxe and Skullhammer

Well the flayer can move 12" then charge (presumably) verses the general 16" range of Bottle's guns, which means he'll probably need to use a juicy target as bait (probably one of the cavalry) who will get shredded but lure the flayer into gun range (and out of cover).
Of course we also need to hope that Bottle's opponent isn't reading this and devising a counter-strategy as we speak, else our favorite pop star is doomed.

$10 for the skirmish book? Did I see right and it is a standalone system? If so, I'm pretty sure that's cheaper than the WHFB Skirmish booklet from way back (wow, I think it's 10+ years old now).. plus I am pretty sure you needed at least army books, and possibly the BRB of the day...

2002 it was $4 USD and 50 pages long. Most of it was scenarios and terrain articles and you did indeed need the full rulebook and the armybook for your army.
2017 it's $10 USD for an unknown number of pages, but you probably don't need any battle tomes and the main rules are free. So you probably just need the skirmish rules and warscrolls either from their website or their app and if you need points, scrollbuilder.com is available.
I'm trying to think of a way for them to structure the new rules document so that you need a battle tome book, but I'm just not coming up with anything.

I have no idea, but he has far fever models than you. And that thing on the tall rock is really beautiful. What model is that? Is it a conversion?
In any case, this AoS Skirmish seems absolutely splendid. I love modelling varied things, and this game allows me to grab a bunch of models from different factions and make lovely little warbands without having to commit to building a full army. I hope that the rules are decent.

It is the Ghoul King from the Zombie Dragon/Terrorgheist kit. He can be modeled on foot--although it's recently that they started showing him like that.
When the kit first came out, I improvised a Ghoul King using a tombstone from the old Skeleton Warrior kit.

Thanks for the hints guys! The King is most definitely a King and not a regular ghoul! :-) I have a few tricks up my sleeve such as the Long Rifle and the Crossbow range, but I agree that Flayer is the highest priority!

It'll be interesting to see if the skirmish rules expand the basic rules in a meaningful way. Lately I've come to notice the shallowness of Age of Sigmar a little too much to keep enjoying the game. A skirmish variant with more depth would be most welcome. Going to have to remember to tune in for the stream.

If rumours are true, then those skirmish bundles are freaking sweet.
Stormcast: 3 Liberators, 2 Retributors, 3 Prosecutors, 1 Knight-Something, probably costing around $92, saving you $27.
Ironjawz (oh man, I want this): 5 Ardboyz, 5 Brutes, 1 Wierdnob Shaman, $100.66 individually, saving you $35.66
Fleash-eaters: 3 Horrors, 20 Ghouls, individually $87, saving you $20.
Khorne: 5 Bloodreavers, 5 Wrathmongers, 1 Aspiring Deathbringer, individually $102, saves you $37 (and man, those Wrathmongers sprues are certainly expensive).

Except the start collecting boxes are actually $20 more base than these and these are actually excellent add-ons to the start collecting. Well, except the stormcast one which is pretty meh. I do get tired of their handling of it. Though the retributors and liberators are essentially free and you still save $10 or so just for the knight and prosecutors.

Given the warbands that will be used on the live stream and how past Warhammer Skirmish things have gone, I think that's very, very likely.

I thought they were dumb as gak until I got a set for extra monsters for WHQ Hammerhal, and discovered they are super cool. The annoying "very clean" GW studio paint job makes them look... not good.
Oddly, there's many more options on the sprues than just the Wrath Mongers and Skull Reapers, and because of they way the models are designed, you can easily mix and match - they remind me of the Blightkings. I almost wish it was a box of "make your own Chosen Khorne dudes" instead of two separate unit types.

The army lists are up: https://www.warhammer-community.com/2017/05/17/warhammer-live-lists-for-may-17th/
Basic infantry seems to cost 2 renown. So it's pretty clear we won't have options to buy very specific gear for each guy (like we can in most skirmishes, like Mordheim or the recent SWA).
It's kind of a bummer, as I think customizing guys is a good part of the fun when playing with a handful of models.

Looks like the general has some custom options. Maybe there is more, they just arnt show casing it so its not super convoluted. One can only hope I suppose.
