I was recently guilty of watching mad max and love the 30's and 40's era cars they had used.
Naturally this led me to want to build such things so why not orks. In progress 2 warbuggies and 1 nob on bike.
Photos aren't great but I shall do more later

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Better quality photos. I'm also pondering colour scheme any help would be awesome
Red one jobs- add details to front wheels, paint, small details
Black jobs- add fuel lines, paint, details. Details to front wheels. No tread is no beuno
Biker nob needs something but not sure what.

Cheers.
Apparently buying the right scale and right model of car is a challenge. A bit stuck right now as I'm waiting for a mass of wheels and plasticard to arrive. However more work in progress stuff. I'll probably do more dark elder stuff for a few days

Next one to be broken down to bits

Also more progress.

Any ideas for good models for the drivers?

Do you think you could model one grot sitting on the shoulders of another to reach the steering wheel? I think I may be easier to fit them in than an ork driver, but I don't know for sure.

Been a while took a break from building to paint these.

New car work in progress

New shell to build off

Nearly finished the warbuggies time to think about trukks

More building. Warbuggies are assembled now just to add details. Time to crack onot with biker nobs pain boy and Warboss on bike. Also looking for models to get some trukks built

ha! great idea, and one that I feared I'd want to do when watching Fury Road the other day.

Tell me you've got a Goff Rocker to stick on the front of an amplifier laden Battlewagon?!

Great start and some clever converting, what scale cars you using for this then 1/43 or 1/32 ?

I need to get a Goff rocker!

It's taken ages to cruise eBay to find them. They are between 1/32 and1/35. I got one 1/43 but it was way too small.

Long time with no update. Basically I couldn't figure out how to best to paint rust I finally did so started painting and more building.

Slowly getting through these.

I also got more biker nobs made. The goal is mob of 5, 2 more for the warbiker squads 1 mekboy and 1 pain boy.

Currently out of some major parts, guns, bodies etc so more I'll come when so figure out what parts I want to get.

Speed freaks heavily converted [update november battlewagon is primed] @ 2018/01/11 19:58:11

I gave powders a go but always found them a pain to work with. The new stuff gw released is pretty good, that's what is on the painted buggies

Nice work loving the bike conversions especially the one using Lego wheels at the back, I imagine bending the plastic tube was a pain mind.

The cars have come together got that racer rod vibe to them, love the shooters on the side of the cab that’s very orkish

Hey what happens to the 1/43 car you got and didn’t use ? Was it a plastic kit ?

Speed freaks heavily converted [update november battlewagon is primed] @ 2018/01/14 23:10:19

Post by: Drazaruk

So the 1/43 car and a couple of other that were too small, the hit and miss of eBay buying, are diecast. However they are still cool so I'm currently pondering an idea of a bunch of grots driving it to be another buggy.

Bending the tubing isn't too bad, sharp bends I do using a candle and more curved ones hot water. Bend until happy then plunge in cold water. Took me a while, a few attempts and some burns before I got it somewhat how I wanted mind.

Love the work so far. Orks fall into the MadMax universe so well. Great conversions. It’s gonna be a great looking army on the table. But if your like me my orks get more shelf time than table time.

Post by: Drazaruk

Cheers. I'm hoping to keep on this project for a while. One more is done.

One thing that's frustrating me at the moment is doing heat scarring on the gun barrels and exhausts. It's a mix of yellow purple and blue washes however I'm struggling to get it how I want so it's still trial and error.

And damn getting the drivers in place is to fiddlely

Starting on the next one. Basic bodywork painted before weathering.

3 more nob bikers complete. To build still is 1 more nob a painboy a big mek and the Warboss all on bikes. I've started a few bits for the Warboss and it's looking to be a big model.

I'm really happy with how these larger bases make them look really bis especially when they are next to the normal warbiker models.
Also thanks for all the positive feedback and ideas it's really keeping me motivated. More parts are on the way so should be able to build more soon, however 16ish warbikers need painting

I was totally inspired and had a spare truck knocking around. It was too small for a buggy or a truck but may be perfect for this with a grot orderly driving.

This afternoons progress. Need to get my hands on a few gretchin now. Next is to finish the exhausts then build some doc oc style arms, workbench and various tools.

More progress from today. Changed the painboys hand out for one with a handle so it looks like he's hanging on the back of the ride.
I need to add a couple of rivet and try find a painboy glyph to add somewhere and if I'm happy I'll get painting. Still need to get one gretchin to make it pretty much done

Speed freaks heavily converted [update november battlewagon is primed] @ 2018/02/21 07:16:07

Cheers . So theres a fair bit of finer detail stuff, tyres, rust, wires to detail and highlight, clothes to highlights and various other highlights, scratches glyphs and probably some freehand stuff but unsure as to what yetc. This is all I can think of without actually looking at the model

Cheers
So model wise it's hard to say as I just cruised eBay till I found ones that I thought I could work with. One is a majorette excaliber which are fairly easy to find.

http://www.diecastlovers.com/collectable/majorette-excalibur-ss-378/

Another was a chevrolet coupe model I found
http://www.modeltoycars.com/for_sale/pc/1939-Chevy-Coupe-Black-Motor-Max-73247AC-1-24-Scale-Diecast-Model-Toy-Car-p4838.htm

The others were just other cool model I found online. The best scales were 1/35 to 1/32. My original plan was to use model kits in this range such as revell or airfix but I found them to be more expensive than I wanted as the main bits I was after was the shells.

Ex ample storage of size would be 8cm width and 12cm length. Mine all vary in size they are bigger than the gw buggies but not as big as the trukk. Most are partly metal so can be a bit of a pain to work with.

My advise have a look on eBay for inspiration or if you got the cash look into airfix and revell stuff.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Spent he last few time on some normal models
Managed to get 15 bikes on eBay for £20 so I don't mind the gak build they received from the seller. I should have filled in the gaps before but I guess I'll have to do that later. Bugger

3 more warbikers done. 5 more to go. However I got bored again and wanted to build so here goes bigmek on bike.

Idea is the generator at the back to show the custom forcefield.

Also here are all the bits I've amassed since I started thinking about this project.

Big mek is looking good. Think I'm happy just can't tell if something is missing. Feedback is always a gift.

Whole idea for below is its the generator for the force field. I wanted to add tesla coils but could not figure out how to make then on the small enough scale so I found found ikea fastings instead. Plan is the paint the wire to look like some lightning.

The idea for this was totally stolen from commissar kaine

Speed freaks heavily converted [update november battlewagon is primed] @ 2018/03/05 19:41:09

Nicely done! I'd consider beefing up the arms a tad more: some cable, an armour plate,... Just to bring them in ljne with the rest of the model. Nice find on the ikea fastings

So here goes. Finally finished all the warbikers, the extra nob iker and the big mek. Pretty happy but I'm blown out now with painting. I get tired painting big squads I'm dreading the 30 or 40 boys I'll do.
First up big mek. I loved the idea of armor plates but it just looked really odd.

Now group shots.

Storm boy still need heir bases painting

I'm really impressed with how the oval bases make the nobs look so much bigger than the warbikers. Next on the list is to build probably 3 trucks, 2 of which I have the base models for, finished gathering slash building bits for the Warboss. This one I'm apprehensive about as I've seen many others that I'm not keen on. Getting the proportions right will be a challenge. Also build at least 1 battlewagon.
Any feedback or ideas let me know. I'm pondering adding some snow to the bases as it looks ace on my dark eldar force.

3 sets of tracks eh? Colour me interested . Lovely work on the truck too. I felt like the dozer blade might be a tad too big, but your colour choices make it fit right in.

First of 3 big trakk or trukks not sure what they be yet.

Getting the tracks to fit it a pain but it's pretty solid when done

Wow, that's a solid conversion. A least I think it's a conversion, I'm not too up on current vehicle kits. Would you go over your process and what that big trakk is made from?

. Honestly most of this is plasticard. The ram is copper sheets hammered to shape with plasticard. The weapons are mainly ork and imperial parts from various places.
The wheels for the tracks are resin ones from somewhere. The tracks were the hardest to track down. I brought 3 sets and sent them all back cause theyou weren't beefy enough. I eventually found some the perfect size from Japan and amazingly they arrived in 5 days.

Excuse the gakky photos my flat is dark I'll get better ones tomorrow.

Ok thanks, was most interested int he tracks and track wheels (their manufacturer and model, to be more specific). This trakk's dozer blad eis lookingnasty! I'd consider bringing it slightly closer to the model itself though, there's lof of lost space there.

Great work, nice trukk! the grot looks awesome

I share your pain on tracks. It can be ridiculously hard to find some, and they hardly ever give measurements.

Are those made from a sort of plastic rubber?

Yeah I agree with the dozer blade needing bringing back, I just oculdnt face changing last night as i got most of the glue from the tracks on my fingers.

The tracks are from this ebay shop.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HENG-LONG-for-1-24-3808-3809-3816-RC-TANK-Replacement-Plastic-Track-x-1-PAIR/142653500430?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160727114228%26meid%3D4b32864c61714adf8ffed82338327bfe%26pid%3D100290%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D142653500430%26itm%3D142653500430&_trksid=p2060778.c100290.m3507

For the Material they are rubber and to be honest it kind of makes it easier to faff around with the shape, i dont have the patience for dealing with individual links.
As for the wheels i couldnt say, try searching for spares for tank models on ebay.

I see what you did there. Thanks for the parts run down, that's some impressive plasticard work.

I cannot put my finger on it. I'm going to finish painting the last one over te next few days and try figure it out. I want to get it all 3 finished so I can start building a battlewagon!!!!!

I think it llooks great! If I compare it to the previous one, this ones dozerblade has les blue on it, making it look less like a part of the whole (if that makes any sense). Might be what's bothering you?

I've been busy. Finishing painting started to drag but now I'm back to building a project I've been practicing a lot for. Battle wagon!
First off the big trakks / trucks are done
url=https://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/978026-.html][/url]

Battlewagons base is a lorry toy I found for £1 in a charity shop months ago. Been pondering how to build
[url=https://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/978023-.html][

The base of the model is now down but I still have a lot of plasticard work to do.

Absolutely love these trukks! Just having a look at the rubber tracks you've used, how did you find painting them? I've always found them a bit of a faff to paint without the paint cracking in the process.

Cheers guys. I'm gonna spray paint the battlewagon today and hopefully Chuck wom base colours down but it will take a while.

The rubber tyres weren't actually too bad to paint, they are some hard rubber as I think they are for rc cars. I just chucked down 2 layers of spray paint but they have come out a bit sticky so I'm pondering some Matt varnish.

I've got my hands on some mdf bases for the buggies. Probably going to use them as the snazzwagons

Ah, the 'What should I use all those buggies I already have as?" conundrum. Feels familiar ...Good luck on the rubber, I haven't risked it yet.
