"A Tale of Many Gamers Painting Challenge" V: Jan-June 2018 @ 2017/07/02 01:24:14

Post by: Azazelx

We're rolling this MOFO onwards into (at least) the first half of 2018. If you want to jump onboard, this is a good time to do it!

The criteria and such are below, and remain the same.

=======================================================================================

Okay, as requested, I'll do the OP for this thing in its 4th iteration.

Firstly, I'd like to thank Dysartes for taking up the mantle from Jan-June 2017. Without his offer to do so, these threads would likely not have run at all this year.

We've had three of these threads so far, and I think it's fair to say that all of them have in some way helped at least some of the Dakka community to get some models or units finished.
Thanks to Photobucket's public suicide, a lot of the photo links in the previous threads will be broken. I'll slowly be repairing the ones to my own photos, as I slowly go through my archives and rehost my pics, but I fear that some will be forever lost.

Jan-June 2016
July-Dec 2016
Jan-June 2017

The point, once again is to go beyond the usual "painting goals for 20xx" that many of us - including myself - typically and set up a voluntary painting challenge for a bunch of us to participate in.
The point being to help focus at least some of our efforts on projects that we want to finish. With that in mind, there's no "defined" project that we all work on like Zombies or Board Games or 40k armies. We'll each set our own goal.

Criteria:
The criteria is simple. We each choose a "thing" or perhaps a couple of things to work on that can last us for approximately 6 months of painting - from January to June. That thing could be:

A specific army for any "large" system.
i.e.: Space Marines, Ogres, Orcs/Orks/Orx/Orruks, Romans, Samurai, a fleet for Halo or Dystopian Wars - or even a fleet for X-Wing if you're repainting.

A warband/team for a smaller system. (and perhaps a backup since these often tend to cap out at 16-40 models)
i.e: SAGA Normans followed by Vikings. Bloodbowl Orcs followed by Elves. A Frostgrave or Mordheim Gang followed by a different gang or even a bunch of random encounter miniatures. (Ice Spiders and shizzle)

A bunch of stuff for a specific game.
i.e.: Deathwatch: Overkill, or The Dungeon Saga box (with or without expansions) or Space Hulk or Descent or Wrath of Ashardalon or "All the Zombies in Zombicide" or "the entire Box of Zombicide" or "all of the things I own for Zombicide" or even "anything I own relating even vaguely to zombies" or "My Warhammer Quest Silver Tower Box that I just picked up." – similarly, “D&D Monsters and PCs for my campaign.” Is just as valid as “The contents of Descent 2.0.”
It could even be scenery - If you're making, say, an urban or desert, etc table and have enough stuff to paint over 6 months in discrete and meaningful chunks.

Month to Month:

Each month, participants will complete a "unit" for their chosen army/game. Complete is the key word here. You might have a unit just missing it’s standard bearer and/or leader. Paint that one or two figures – it completes the unit – that counts! You might have a couple of random painted zombies sitting around and add a few more to make them into a legal unit for your game of choice – that counts!
You can nominate it at the start or procrastinate for 3 1/2 weeks and nominate it when you're showing your "finished" pictures. There’s no requirement to show “before” photos, because as stated – the point is to finish stuff. A model might have just needed the final touch-ups for 2 months or 2 years – if this challenge helps you get that sucker done, then it’s done it’s work.

A "unit" should be theoretically legal - or at least thematically close to it
- we don't care if your Devastator Squad has only three heavy weapons, or if a guy has melta-bombs for some reason, or if only half of the Lizardmen have 2-handed weapons.

A "unit" that is “rank and file” should be at least 3 models. No upper limit
- if you wanna do 60 goblins, we're not gonna hold you back! Then again, if 10 goblins or zombies is enough for you in a month, that's cool as well.

A "unit" for a boardgame is something that you decide makes thematic sense.
- 10 Zombicide runners? Sure. 6 Fatties? Sure. A trio of Ravenloft monsters? Sure.

A "unit" can be a hero model, or a hero model with his retinue, or a monster, or a war machine.
- Marneus Calgar with or without his little gang? Sure for both. Gob-Lobber? Sure. Dragon? Sure? Army Standard Bearer? Sure. Chariot? Sure. Necromancer? Sure.

If you finish your unit, can you start another one as a stretch goal for that month? You sure bloody can!
- Especially encouraged if your unit was a smaller number or a simpler hero model. But hey, gak happens in life - as I certainly know - so there's certainly no recriminations if you get one, or three or none models painted in a given month. Having said that, if you’re probably not going to participate at all, then maybe hold off on the signup.

If you finish your entire project - particularly something like a boardgame
- you can choose to chill and take a well-deserved break - or continue by painting some similar/associated models. Like more Genestealers or Terminators or Zombies or D&D Monsters.

Very Important Stuff – to reiterate:

IT DOES NOT MATTER if you've already started the army/force/project/whatever.
IT DOES NOT MATTER if you've already half-painted all of the miniatures.
IT ONLY MATTERS that you're prompted to do some painting and get stuff finished.

The objective is simply to help motivate us all to complete those many unpainted models that we have, to support each other and perhaps some constructive advice or good-natured ribbing.
It also doesn't matter if you do a unit for this project each month and then fritter the rest of your time away on completely unrelated and random models.

If you'd like to participate, just add a post here stating what game/system/army/etc you want to focus on. If you'd like to nominate your first month's target, then feel free to do so.

The big difference this time round is that I simply don't have the time to maintain this thread in the way that I did well in the first iteration, and decently, well, reasonably in the second. So I won't be able to do the monthly showcase posts in the way I did in 2016. This means if you decide to participate, it's up to you as much as myself or anyone else to keep it updated with your stuff and keep the thread alive.

I won't be working on any one army this time, but getting units finished from the things that I'm actively painting - mostly finishing and updating various power armour/marine-type units for 40k 8th Edition, but also my Viking Warband and various KoW armies & AoS warbands in small doses.

Currently, that means:
Iron Warriors
Minotaurs
Dark Angels
Mentor Legion
Black Templars
DeathWatch
The Fallen
Legion of the Damned
Orks
Flesh Tearers
Vikings
Undead

So... yeah. Pretty wide open for me this time. As long as I manage to get at least one unit completed per month, it's all good, though. I won't be posting every single thing I get done here though - just group shots. Individual models and such will as always be in my Plog thread and Wordpress blog - both linked in my sig.

I'd encourage any others who have participated in the past to join in again, and adopt the looser "rules" that I'm personally using this time. Remember, it's all (and only) about motivation.

I will hesitately put my name back in for these 6 months. I'm working on BtGoA, so we will see how it goes.

As I just walked back in the house from priming some Algoryn, they will be July's goal.

Thanks Azazelx for once again heading this up.

And subscribing for all the awesomeness .

I'll try to get at least one unit from 40k done per month, more if possible. I'm going to start with the Primaris Marines from Dark Imperium, and we'll see where I go from there.

With a Pile of Shame reaching dangerous heights I'm going to try and get my Genestealer Cults/ Imperial Guard army started/finished, and also my small Thousand Sons force.

Should things go very very well, I also have- or will have- these to get through/finish (or at least dabble in) as well-

Dark Eldar/Craftworld Eldar
World Eaters
The Sword and Sorcery box set and expansion
Massive Darkness (if it arrives in time)
Dark Imperium Box set
Varangur KoW army (including Frostgrave barbarians and various Mierce gribblies)
Rhordia KoW army

Actually changed my mind and this time I'm going for Zombicide:Black Plague at least 10 models a month for this

In the mean time I had 3 uninterrupted hours of painting and watching Arrow on Netflix, so the first squad of Algoryn are done.

I guess that's putting me in a good spot for the monthly challenge . 3 troopers with mag guns, a trooper with a micro-x launcher, a squad leader with Mag pistol and x-sling and a spotter drone. Drone still needs basing, but I'll do all three of them at one time as they could possibly be part of their own unit.

That's one of three units of Algoryn from the starter set Kar'A nine done. So a third of the way done for my monthly goal.

Moved house recently and haven't yet managed to relocate my nice camera, which is a bit of a worry. In the meantime I have my trusty phone camera which doesn't cope as well with multiple figures.
However, squad one of the Rubric Marines (which were surprisingly quicker than I expected) is ready to go.

While I'm not a big fan of really 'busy' bases generally, usually I would do more with the bases but as these models have so much going on I felt it best to leave them sparse.

This does leave less complicated models in the army in the lurch a bit though- these Tzaangor's bases could do with a little something, but I want all the bases to match. Hmm.
These were mainly done in June, but had a few bits left over that needed doing which I finished off while waiting for marines to dry

Those look fantastic. For basing, what about some small light sandy brown tufts? They'd be innocuous enough for the Rubrics, but give the Tzaangor that little bit of extra something.

"A Tale of Many Gamers Painting Challenge" V: Jan-June 2018 @ 2017/07/08 16:05:13

Thank you for the kind words guys.

Azazelx- I like that idea a lot, thanks. I need to restock on some of my basing stuff so will pick some new tufts up when I do that.

I'm personally loving those particular tufts. they're the same ones I used on the Abrakhân Guard up there.

I will put my hat in the ring again after failing miserably with my Guard... This time, it's Blood Angels!

I'll attempt one unit per month. I've already started on the Primaris Marines from the Dark Imperium box set but no doubt this will get added to over the coming weeks and months (especially since I want a Sturm Rahven, Assault Marines, Dante, Mephiston, Lemartes, the Sanguinor......)

All three squads are now tabletop ready.

I'm thinking of adding another spot color. Probably to the head crests and to the chest emblem. Suggestions are welcome. Right now I'm leaning towards either a bone color or gold.

Looking really good. I think either bone or gold would work really well for the chest emblem (really helpful I know) but what about a crisp blue/white mark on the head crest- or maybe Guilliman Blue glaze over a white stripe?

Ok, grown up camera is still AWOL- however this is the first unit in my GSC/IG crossover. First finished unit, anyway. Featuring the sandy brown/green tufts as per Azazelx's suggestion- cheers! I keep all armies in each genre the same- bases for all my fantasy units are the same, and so for sci-fi.

The banner guy isn't strictly in the unit but he was painted in the same batch, though will revisit the banner itself in future as I did a bad job on it.

 ZergSmasher wrote:

I don't think there's any risk of that... although my paint rate was low this week as I spent most of my hobby time building Genestealer Cult stuff from the Deathwatch Overkill box and texturing the bases ready for priming.
Loving the DA Primaris- always had a soft spot for the Dark Angels so great to see Primaris DA so neatly done.

As I mentioned my hobby time has been focused on building, so my painting has been limited to speed painting/rushing one squad and a couple of other bits and bobs, all for my Imperial Guard. The original intention was for them to be a GSC corrupted regiment, and they will certainly be used as such in games, but the more of them I do the more I being able to use them as a force in their own right. This means the purplish tinge and subtle bits of gribbliness here and there may not happen after all and I may just tie them in to the cults by the colour scheme.

First up, a quick Commissar.

And an Autocannon thing that I've probably set up and based all wrong

I hated this squad of Scions with a passion. I don't know precisely why, but I didn't enjoy painting them at all so they are a bit rushed. Still, I can check them off the list

This guy is to serve as an officer of some kind. Company/Platoon Commander?

Nice work everyone

@Llamahead, what are you using for basing? I haven't ever really bothered with basing, so I want to try a few things.

I forgot to post this in this thread

His name is Togg, an exclusive mercenary figure from warlord games for gates of Antares. I chose his colors before I realized he is some sort of alien bug dude. Worked out good in my opinion. And he's a tall guy too.

Here he is unpainted next to a Concord trooper and an Algoryn for size comparison.

I picked up some (4) cheap (less than $10 total) guildball figures at miniaturemarkets retail store. They are in progress over in my thread, hopefully will be completed by the end of the month.

Taaloc-Yep the zombicide KS was an excellent source for low fantasy heroes and undead I went fairly heavy on it. The models are certainly worth a look as gaming pieces in their own right. Your guard are looking excelent by the way.
Theophony-Flock and ballast sold for railway modelling I had the bright idea of rebasing them all on square mdf bases so I could use them in Warhammer it is now loooking like an awful amount of work but it means all my fantasy models are usable together without a mass rebasing. Togg is a nice varied alien as well.

Off and on painting and not enough time to post here .

Some of you are aware that I live within 2miles (3.2kilometers) of miniaturemarkets brick and mortar store. I stop by there at least once a week as their shop is on the way home from my part time job and they are constantly putting dinged and dented items out on the shelf for up to 80% off. Well in the last few weeks I've picked up a few of their dented figs for games I don't play. Mostly it's just the cellophane packages are damaged but they won't ship damaged goods out so they sell them for dirt cheap (I'm sure the manufacturer must give them a credit to recoup the loss and not have to pay to replace them).

I looked at the Kickstarter for guild ball years ago and almost pulled the trigger, but since my finances are tight I skipped it. I lucked out and they had some individual figs for a steal 3 figs for $7 and I had previously picked up two others for less than $5 total. So I assembled, primed and painted up the two mortician players I grabbed (bonesaw and Ghast). I've been watching Duncan on warhammerTV and feel like I've made some good strides in my painting from the videos.

The other 3 are 2 butchers and a fisherman (shank, tenderizer and I'm not sure of the fish guy, but he's one of their big guys with a spear/harpoon), are sitting and waiting patiently for their turns.

In the mean time last night I wanted to test a dark blue I've seen used for crimson fists but didn't feel like getting any marines out, so I grabbed the next best thing...an Orc blood bowl figure . Ive never painted orcs before (well I have, but not in the last 5+ years and they were bad) so more warhammertv watching and then I started my new Orc team Da Crumpin' Fists.

I'm still planning on painting something red on him, possibly the left knuckle duster or maybe just a modified crimson fist symbol on one of the plates. Sort of a homage to the Crimson Fists. Who knows maybe these will be some of the orcs that attacked the crimson fists world and they grabbed the metal from their victims armor and made their own from the parts. Base still needs to be done, but I must get more than this test model finished and do all the bases at once.

Finished a second bloodbowl Orc yesterday. I was able to duplicate the paint scheme with no problem, so the rest of the team will follow. Sorry for the bad picture .

I'm thinking of painting the skull glyph plate on his chest and back a different color instead of doing red knuckledusters. If I go red then they could be red skull commandos.

I also have Massive Darkness coming at some point- I do hope to have all of it painted one day but still haven't started on Sword and Sorcery yet!

I dug out the good camera last week and spent several hours fiddling about getting it working on the computer and all that. Not really happy with any of the shots I took but did get this one of the commissar I posted before:

Doesn't seem much (if any) improvement on the phone camera as far as I can see.

Quick paint up of these guys which I'm hoping to scatter amongst my guard squads

And finally made a start on some Genestealer Cult stuff properly this week, getting these guys more or less done (although now I see I need to tidy up the blob on the front of the coat of the Primus, damn it)

Was going to have the Genestealer Patriach finished as well but cycling back from a quick trip to the Post Office yesterday afternoon my bike decided that a small ridge in the middle of the road was too much for it and chucked me onto the asphalt, where not only did I sustain several stitches worth of injuries, but far more upsettingly also smashed the bottle of beer I had just bought and was carrying in my backpack to go with a movie in the evening. Ho hum.

Yeah, those are Victoria's female guard. I bought some guard off her awhile back, but can't remember what they were exactly. I seem to recall gas masks and kilts...

Yep, they are Victoria's Arcadians. I have another 5 to build and paint, and a squad of the Tannenburgs as well which I will use for... something. I picked up some of the greatcoat bits as well to make some commissars.

Thanks for the kind words guys- fortunately nothing broken (except the beer and parts of the bike) but a bit sore overall. I'm not old by any stretch of the imagination but I think I would have been much better off pulling that particular stunt 15-25 years ago. Extra special thanks to the passers by who... just walked off.

But it's not all doom and gloom! My guard are up two chimeras rather unexpectedly as a chap threw them in with a trade I was doing, and I managed to build two squad's worth of infantry from a bag of guard bits which on first glance didn't look like it'd make more than 5 or 6 guys.

Orcs are looking good Theo- I did an Orc team in blue as well a few months back (but then all my Orcs have been in blue uniforms/armour since I was about 10 when I had what I thought was the inspired idea of making a 40k Ork army called "Da Boyz in Blue")

Great stuff guys. I've got Danton done.

Didn't go full on with Tartan as I didn't think I could pull it off and I wanted a more peasanty vibe from him. The random peasants becoming heroes is one of my favourite elements in fantasy fiction and the models in Black Plague seemed to imply it. I also got a couple more zombies done.

The elf bard is painted as a ghost to be used as a banshee in Frostgrave as well.

This is also what I accomplished in July

Might go easier on the pace next month as the unofficial competition is Brutal and I have a couple of models which might fill that well.

No idea if it's allowed, so will gladly remove if not.

July's Progress-

August may be slower to start with while I wait for my injuries to heal- I did finish the Genestealer Patriarch but because I'm not able to rest my arms or hands on anything to steady because of where the wounds are it was pretty scrappy and a frustrating experience.

It may be a blessing in disguise as one thing I can do painlessly is airbrushing- something I've never really practiced- so not only can I get some serious practice in on that, I can basecoat loads of vehicles and stuff at the start of the month ready hopefully) for the finishing touches later on when things improve.

We had an period of glorious weather here where I am from about May to mid/late June, but more recently there's been a hell of a lot of rain. This has meant the water butt has filled up, so my wife is happy- which is the main thing. I don't think the wet weather has affected my airbrushing this week; I have an indoor space for it (with an extractor fan and hose arrangement).

Haven't been able to 'complete' any of the following due to arm issues- so won't post a pic- but airbrushing went like a dream this week, for the first time ever. I've never done very much/very well with airbrushing in the past, mainly due to just plain not understanding what I was doing, but it really clicked this week. So, this week- thanks to the airbrush- I got basecoats and shading on-

1 IG Valkyrie
3 IG Sentinels
2 IG Chimeras
7 IG Leman Russ
1 IG Hydra
1 Baneblade
1 GSC Goliath Rockgrinder

Nice work llamahead, it reminds me that I have Black Plague figs to finish up. I think I've decided to not back green horde, my mountain is too big and my kids and I really enjoy the more modern era version.

Well that's it for orcs for a while anyways. Now onto something completely different. Asian warriors who may or may not be of the respectable variety . Anyone following my blog for a while knows that I have a bit of a craze for samurai and Chinese food. I have amassed a bunch of figs over the decades and it's time to start building towards the past. Also September is right around the corner so I need a new months painting challenge for myself, and what sounds better than Samurai September .

I picked up the starter set for Test of Honour by Warlordgames.com a week or so ago and then used my points from the FLGS to pick up one of their expansions called Masked Men. While I have yet to read the rulebook for the game, I think a small skirmish game may be fun for the kids. Anyway, I built up the Masked Men set today as well as based a figure from Okko I think to work as a samurai. So if I complete these 12 this month, I will treat myself to painting the shadow emissary from Wyrd. All together the figs will be rolled into a Kings of War army, but for now it's just fun stuff to try and paint.

Here's where the masked men stand at this point.

The masked men are the yari ashigaru from warlordgames, formerly made by wargames factory, they have metal heads with samurai/demon masks(Mempo?) that they have taken off of samurai they have killed. Now these guys are actually monks who are lead by Masahiro, a maskless monk in the center of the photo.

Close up of some scenery bits(objectives maybe or just color for the table) that I made out of left over bits and bases. The samurai in this photo is a special deal I grabbed at miniaturemarket for a couple bucks. I think he came from the game Okko, bug I can't remember and don't feel like digging through the old thread .

The figures bases slip nicely into these three spot bases as in Test of Honour you can hire followers that come in groups. Bases are removeable from larger bases, but it's a neat little bit. I need trays for Kings of War like this, only larger.

Glad to see everyone is making progress

Could end up being a bad idea seeing all this cool stuff as I keep getting ideas.

OK, so, August. A bad start to the month for painting- or was it?- as injury kept me from doing too much of my normal painting. What it did mean was that I got to practice my airbrushing instead.

Until this month it has never ever worked well for me. I was definitely ready to give it up and stick to brushes. If I didn't clean it well enough it clogged, but if I cleaned it too enthusiastically I damaged stuff. Anything that could go wrong did go wrong and while frustrating, it was all my fault. Every time I tried to use it, something went wrong, and I'd be there for ages trying to fix it and clean it afterwards and the models still looked awful. I honestly couldn't get my head round why so many people seemed to be raving about them.

Forced to get used to it this month- well, not forced, but I couldn't let the side down, could I?- I approached it with far more planning and careful preparation and all that fun stuff and it finally clicked.

All that was a long winded way of saying I got my airbrush working and got some practice in. I'm still not very good with it- it isn't a magic wand, after all- but I definitely appreciate it more as a tool and a different way of approaching a task.

Waffling time over. My intention was to practice my airbrushing on loads of tanks at the start of the month and finish them at the end when my arms were better. I completed stage a and did nothing towards stage b.

I did do other stuff though.

Here's some Legion of Everblight stuff (all units I believe):

As is probably becoming clear, while I did do stuff for my Guard and Cults earlier in the month, I've got distracted towards the end. I had some Space Wolf stuff lying around that I was going to sell but then I looked at it, looked at the Primaris marines I also had lying around, and thought "hmm"

@zergsmasher, tabletop is what I shoot for. Though I have been trying to stretch myself lately to do better, it's what I'm after in the end. Yours are looking great and would be a welcome opponent on the table .

So papa nurgle blessed me with the cold my wife had last week. So I got some paint time today as I couldn't sleep, but it was at least restful until my massive Darkness pledge arrived . I finished my stretch goal Dragon, though I might touch up the spikes on his back later.

Im particularly happy with how his eyes turned out. I wanted them to stand out from the model.

Plus the orange is going to be a spot color that appears on some of my characters in this samurai collection.
I also got the six mounted samurai that I picked up assembled and primed, so stretch stretch goal is on the way.

I've mainly been doing stuff with Space Wolves style Primaris, but a somewhat guilty conscience made me go back and complete a squad of Guard (rescued in 'interesting' condition from ebay) as well as a couple of commissars all to a basic but serviceable (i.e. get 'em on the table) standard. Although looking at the picture I'm going to have to change the lady commissar's base to a GW one- I used Mantic as I couldn't find any GW ones, and it didn't look too out of place to the eye. Photo says otherwise though...

Wolf Style Reivers. I know the heads in the set seem to be kind of a love/hate thing and I have to say, I love them. For use on my Khorne guys. Still, the benefit of this project is that I can use wolves heads instead, port the Reiver heads over to my Khorne Bezerkers, and borrow the current heads off those (Marauder Horsemen heads) to use as Blood Claw heads or something.

And finally, I messed around with the Hellblaster squad as well. First go at using an airbrush to do a plasma glow. I'm sure I'll get better with practice. I had an idea that I was going to use all the wolves heads with hairstyles too 'wacky' to use elsewhere for the Hellblasters, on the basis that you probably need to be a little unhinged to lug those weapons around, but some of them are just too wacky even for that. Just realised that I haven't tidied up the areas where I put the custom decals on them. I'll have to go back to that (my record this month is less than stellar, I know)

Thank you- I'm having a lot of fun doing them and they are actually really quick to do as well. Getting the chance to try out/practice a lot of new stuff with them as well, including: basecoating infantry sized models with an airbrush (ok, they are rather large infantry sized figures, but I'm working my way down); using crackle medium to make ice effects; freehand tattoos; making my own transfers; plasma effects. I quite fancy making a diorama with them at some point (actually, I really fancy doing a diorama full stop, but space is becoming an issue)

Your making me like the primaries marines more and more. They are a good design and a nice update to the old models, but I dislike how many of the old figs I have that are now outdated no matter what they are saying.

I bought, primed and finished Chobei (Robin Hood type samurai figure) for Test of Honour yesterday. He comes with 10 ashigaru which will soon be assembled and painted up.

This is me if I was a samurai....overweight

I also made a terrain piece that's finished, a shrine built on a CD, which I've been doing a lot of for different things.

Also working on some bamboo woods as terrain, still in progress.

I didn't play 40k between 1997 and 2017 and had no loyalists left (although I have bought some chaos and Xenos stuff in that time) so for me the Primaris are a nice up to date range to come back to and I don't really have any investment in the older marines. It's easy for me as a result and a nice modern starting point but I think I would definitely be more sour about it if I had been collecting marines all that time, so I can respect that others may not like them so much.

I still have so much zombicide Black Plague to paint and I just received massive darkness, and they want me to finalize my green horde pledge . Yours are looking great and really fit the dark theme well.

I'm going to try and clear a table in the basement to set up my painted for the month and all my terrain I built this month. Possibly pics early in the morning.

Nice iron warrior predator , is the transfer on the side of it custom or forgeworld?

Great job on the zombicide. I should buy some of the crows, but that is so far back burner now it's not even funny .

Well as I said I'd try and get a group shot I just grabbed everything and threw it on a board. Closer pics in my thread.

Also while technically not done and not even a model I took about an hour this morning and chopped up some pvc pipe (1" pipe cut to 2.5" lengths) and glued them together.

I always hated having to pick up a dozen dropper bottles to find the color I was looking for. I could have put a drop on each tip, but that looks messy.

I'm thinking of shooting the whole thing with black spray paint which would help it blend into my paint desk better. It only has 31 spaces (about a quarter of my dropper bottles), so I will need to build this up/out more.

You guys are smashing it! That's a lot of survivors, Llamahead. Very, very respectable for a month! I haven't even opened anything past the base game of Black Plague, let alone painted any of it yet, and yeah, giant boxes of Massive Darkness moved into the shed and Green Tide (Green Horde?) just paid for. Ouch!

Love the Redemptor Dread, Taaloc. Your Wolves are really sweet. Have you thought of checking in the Swap Shop to see if people have any Space Wolf bits to spare? Given what GW pack onto a sprue, there must be a ton of unused bits floating about out there.

Predator looks ace, Manalishi. I keep meaning to finish some armour for my IW but I keep getting distracted by more infantry.

And for my own final contribution to September:

Great stuff especially those Hellblasters Zergsmasher and I've got a soft spotfor Old school beastmen Josh.

Old school Beastmen are what got me into this hobby, along with an article in a magazine that may have been White Dwarf which had rules for building a Chaos Warband (and also, I think, something about some kind of post apocalyptic car game). I've never found that particular issue of whatever magazine it was again but have always wanted to.

Anyway looking good everyone! I love that Iron Warrior, Azazelx, Llamahead you must be nearly finished with the Zombicide stuff?

I have a week or so to complete a unit for this month. It will probably end up being the old "single model as a unit" chestnut. I've actually been building and painting non stop, but it's all stuff for other people...

Lovely Dread there, Azazelx, that and the character you posted before are really quite inspirational.

With a supreme effort of will I dragged myself back to the wolf project for a bit (not because I don't want to do it, because I really, really, do, I'm just swamped at the moment) and rushed out this chap, who I'm not sure makes much sense in lore or in colour scheme but I honestly don't have the time/can't be bothered to pore over all the new stuff to figure out the whys and wherefores

Grunts or is that Groans? Some basic modifications to amuse me.

Dwarf

Witch to also fill in as a Frostgrave Apothecary.

Sir Gilbert

Antha who sadly suffers from under defined face but willalso do nicely as a Wave Warden in Junglegrave

I've almost managed to finish a new squad of Primaris Intercessors but they are a cautionary tale in making sure your lighting is sufficient- painted them using just normal lighting rather than my daylight bulb because I was painting in the house instead of my shed and when I got them under my normal lamp the number of mistakes was unreal. Still, may not have a chance to fix them for a while so will finish the bits I've started and hopefully upload later.

In the meantime, some Shadespire Skeletons. I love the character of these models and I'm thinking of getting another set to use as Individuals/unit champions for my KoW Undead

Archerz

Mutantz

I converted these slightly partly to have every model an individual partly to use these as mutant cultists with my Beastmen which was actually part of my justification to back Black Plague
Executioner

and two survivors

More pics of this guy can be found in my P&M blog.

Next, we have some Autogun Cultists, the ones I got in the Assassinorum: Execution Force game:

And finally, as part of the same group with those cultists, here's a random cultist with a flamer:

I missed a couple of details on this guy, but I'm trying to work fast, so forgive me!

Liking the biker.
Julian was done just before the end of February

February was lighter on models as I'm nearing the end of my Zombies.
Arnaud however shows I've still got a few more to do.

Is it too late to join in? I just picked up tabletop gaming again this year after a 12 year break

Got another thing done for my Adepticon Champs list. Kind of a crap photo, but the paintjob isn't really worthy of me doing my formal photo setup. Just some Nurgling bases:

Very quick and easy to paint, and there is potential to make them way better, but I'm in too big of a hurry. I've got 3 more bases of these guys almost done, and I really need to paint yet 3 more bases of them. Good thing they go fast!

More Nurglings! Yet another box checked on my Adepticon preparations.

Hobby time has taken a massive hit of late; formerly because of Stuff, and latterly because I've lacked motivation/discipline. So though I'm late I'd like to try and catch up by posting a unit a week.

This is the sum total of my progress in January and February. Ironskull's Boyz warband for Shadespire, using a combnation of Ironjawz Brutes models and parts from the official warband models. I'm just not a fan of the official warband models- they feel a little too cartoony, and strangely squashed up, like the models were deliberately made smaller to fit the standard Shadespire sprues. Subjective of course, but I wanted to do my own version.

Another unit finished to a good standard (I've done even more stuff than I've posted here, but I'm only putting stuff that is truly finished in this thread). This time it's my first Daemon of Slaanesh, a Prince with dual Malefic Talons:

This pic, and the others in that I've posted in my blog, do not do this model justice. The colors look much more washed out than they do in real life, where the armor actually has a stronger purple tint to it. Not sure what setting to adjust on my camera to fix this.

Try adjusting the background not the camera.

Here are some things from the last couple of months:

I've pretty much stopped maintaining my P&M blog here, and cranked it up over on Wordpress, so more pics of all of the things can be found over there. I just couldn't keep up with keeping up with everyone's blogs here, and often I'd only have a couple of replies when I posted stuff due to the traffic here, so I made the choice that allowed me to keep up my own blog and free up a lot of Dakka time that became painting time again.

I'll still do photodumps here every so often, because you guys are cool, but I'll probably continue to spend a lot less time on Dakka.

It looks like this project log is coming to an end. Is anyone interested in continuing? I lack the time and inspiration to actively curate it, but I'd be glad to at least start a new thread. Anyway, here's what I did in June:
