Once had a GW customer claim he was joining the army, but didn't have to do basic training [i]because reasons[/u], despite an actual Captain of Her Majesty's Armed Forces calling him out on it.

Stinky O'Blobby didn't even back down despite the job he described being the very same one said Captain actually does....

If I'd have realised at the time I would've reported that witch.

People can be awkward, even ladies, even ladies working in retail. Abrasive thing to say but everyone makes mistakes.

One time, when talking about cohesion rules, a buddy explained that all of the figs in the unit must be within 2" of each other. We asked him if this was the katamari damacy miniatures game.

I encountered a guy in MWO (Mechwarrior Online). He was on the forums and switching between talking about how great his clan was and raging how they had been treated unfairly in a tournament they had lost. He made the mistake of bragging about how many former military were in his clan. Another player started to take his bragging apart, from his clan's performance to the supposedly close parallels between being former military and being able to pilot a virtual battlemech with built-in aim assist.

That's when this guy clearly lost it and his brain sailed right out the window. He Summed his rebuttal up with this brilliant comment.

"B**S***! You don't understand OpSec!"

To this day I'm not certain what OpSec had to do with his argument, his opponent's rebuttal, or the piloting of the aforementioned virtual giant stompy robots. For all the next year, the hilarious response to being called out was always 'You Don't Understand OpSec!'

It was a guy, note what the filter censors "Cambridge University Netball Team" to.

Never occurred to me at the time to do anything about it (mainly also as that was literally the only place I had to play).

Operational Security? Generally means having a need to know or keeping internal workings secret. Not sure the context at which it was used but could be relavent wheb discussing a clan strategy I suppose.

I don't think I know anyone who plays WW2 without having some Germans, they might have been evil (they really really were in their high commands case) but the tanks were cool.

If we're calling people out on stupidity can we have the title amended to include either 'stupidest' or 'most stupid'? Amalgamating the two is horrendous.

In my early teens one of the only other 40k players I knew would talk like an Ork during games. it sounded ridiculous and he couldn't even claim it was thematic since he played Eldar!

"Jumping on the band wagon, huh?" An opponents response when I played my one and only game with Grey Knights after the release of the 5th Edition 'Heressss Draigo!' Codex.

He didn't understand why half the store started sniggering. So I played a game with him - find the plastic model. It turned out, with the exception of a DreadKnight, he couldn't...because I' had 3000 points of Grey Knights that I had been playing since 4th Edition. Even when he rejoiced that the Dreadnaught was plastic, I replied, "Nope, one's ForceWorld so it's Resin and the others converted from the metal Venerable Dread."

Eventually, I threw him a bone and pointed out the one plastic unit I had, beyond Dready - the Shrine Raider, a a heavily converted Land Raider that has a small Shrine built on top (fencing, candles, the Tomb of an Imperial Saint, etc) that my Grand Master (converted from metal Marneus Calgar, some Inquisitor 54mm bits and a whole lot of kits) and his bodyguard rode in on.

In fairness to the guy, the store did have a lot of issues with gamers hoping on the perceived 'power list' that just released (lots of people miraculously finding their unpainted, Sanguinary Guard heavy, plastic kit Black Company, Mephisto Blood Angels list in the days after it was released were found - but the shop did well at Codex launches...) but, seriously, don't assume.

Wasn't said to me, but someone I had been in the same room with earlier this year (and didn't even talk or interactive with) decided to call me a 12 yr old in an attempt to piss off a friend of mine some months later.

He succeeded in pissing my friend off (by hurling other insults and the like about), but when I found out about it I couldn't stop laughing at the absurdity of it all.
I know I look a bit younger than I am, but not almost a decade younger.

Not sure the guy was a gamer, but he was at the counter in a store that sells games so we'll go with it:

"The tolerance of homosexuality is what led to the fall of the Roman Empire."

There's just...so many....what the...gah. Still hurts my head to try and contort into the facsimile of (il-)logic that would lead to such a statement. Even the store owner, who leans fairly conservative, had to do the "let me stop you right there" kind of routine. I mean, sure, there were a myriad of factors that caused the fall of the Roman Empire, but in ranking them I'm pretty sure the use of lead pipes and serving dishes contributed far more than "tolerance of homosexuality."

Believing in superstitions regarding dice such as other people touching them, only using specific dice, rituals, putting a huge emphasis on "lucky" or "unlucky", etc.

This assumes the dice aren't loaded which is such a small percentage that it's similar to a conspiracy theory anyway if someone mentions "cheating dice".

Hate to quote this guy since I still play with him all the time, he just overestimates the ability of his models. Dude scouted up a wolf lord on a wolf, allowing me to charge him with 20 boyz, a warboss, and 3 meganobz. His response once the assault started was,

"I think you'll be surprised at how this goes," with a smug, completely genuine grin on his face.

To be fair, I was surprised, because somehow his wolflord only managed to get a single wound off of a boss nob before dying horribly.

"FRFSRF is overpowered, actually all Guard orders are overpowered and you should only be able to use them once a game like chapter tactics" - said by Timmy during 6th edition after the new SM codex had dropped.
Actually there are a bunch of quotes from him, but I'll spoiler them so you dont have to read them if you dont want to:
Spoiler:

"You bring too many tanks, you should bring less" - at this point he was bringing the same number as I was
"Grey Knight psychic powers are OP, only the sergeant should be able to cast them and if he dies the unit should lose its powers" - a friend (Lets call him the Russian Ink) decided to play Timmy (whom was used to dominating the psychic phase over his opponents) and roundly thrashed him
"Leman Russ are OP" - said during 6th edition
"Macro cannons are OP and should be banned" - said after Timmy charged across a table in full view of said Macro Cannon and took heavy casualties as a result
"YOUR ARMY IS NOT ABOUT TANKS ITS ABOUT THE MEN FIGHTING IN THE GUARD" - Timmy does not like tanks
"Space Wolves are overpowered and should be nerfed" - The VikingPirate played Timmy, whom decided that charging across the middle of the table was a good idea
"Tank Commanders should not be allowed and they certainly shouldnt be allowed to be warlords" - I'll let you guess. Suffice to say he did not get Slay the Warlord
"Genestealer Cult are overpowered" - Timmy went up against Gene (who was a very green beginner) and lost. It should be noted that at this point Timmy had a Knight
"Artillery Barrages are OP" - because a significant chunk of your army having no board presence and becoming useless when your commander dies is OP

There are more but I cant remember them all at the moment.

"I'll set myself a budget and stick to it" - myself, deluding myself into thinking I had any self control.

Very well.

Back in the day, I played quite a lot on Waterson, and occasionally hopped in public Liberators, to help them out by tail-gunning or belly-gunning. I jumped in this Liberator, was invited to a squad containing the pilot and belly-gunner, and was greeted through voice chat. We were talking about random stuff, until suddenly the pilot says "All hail our lord and saviour, Adolf Hitler".

I obviously questioned this, and was given a very thorough (and nonsensical) explanation as to why the Holocaust didn't happen (something about a disease outbreak), was called "Professor Goldstein", and was told that my historical knowledge was all false when I tried to tell them that their theories were bs. After about 5 minutes in this super awkward situation, we got shot down by a bunch of flak turrets, and I coincidentally had to go eat dinner, left the squad, disconnected, and only went back on the server a few days later.

Along with Hybrid's post, this, and having opponents give uncomfortably graphic descriptions of what casualties to my Soritas squads entail. Have had it happen separately over the years from a Dark Eldar player, a Space Marine player and one fielding Tyranids, I'm pretty sure marine opponents didn't get to hear that.

I missed the whole kickstarter fracas, but I recently got a CC pincer demon from eBay for quite cheap and I gotta say, it was one of my best purchases. Beautiful sculpt and mold. I'm a bit worried about painting it up though as I've washed it three times and it still seems really slippery in spots like it has some release agent remaining.

I've got no particularly stupid 'quotes', but I've got my share of general stupid experiences/conversations.

I've had someone go on for thirty minutes about 'female space marines' and why they should be a thing, and literally no one cared enough to argue with him- yet he kept going on, as if he were preaching some kind of religion to us. And when someone finally told him to shut up and play the game with his models, he stormed out with them. He came back ten minutes later with his wife, who attempted to lecture us about being sexists. There were about four women and six men in the gaming room. We basically called him a spineless worm and laughed him and his obnoxious (and possibly high) wife out of the shop. They wrote a scathing review on facebook, but left their personal profiles public and this gave everyone some insights into their fetishes. Needless to say, nothing of value was lost when they said they no longer wished to be a customer.

A gamer once made the mistake of asking if we could wrap up our 40k game so he and his friends could use the table for D&D. The thing is, at this place- it was limited on tables and we were using our own personal table, and the establishment allowed us the floor space. When we told him it was our table, he went and... purchased a card table and came back, then stood over us huffing and whining. Weirdly, no one showed up to play with him. He just sat there flipping through his books.

I've had a gamer beg me for a box of models I'd just bought. Like, 'give me please'. He was ten years older than me.

I had a gamer actually Doxx me because he thought I had access to a private server. He then threatened to show up to my house and 'beat the IP address out of me'. It was my parents' house, and my father owns more firearms than most SWAT teams. I encouraged him to do it.

Nah man, gravity determines your weight. Some people were just born on the wrong planet. And if you believe what you just posted, I got a whole lot of magazines I can sell you real cheap. They have tons of diet plans in them.

Mass (since we're being picky) is a function of energy. Energy in > energy out, mass increases, energy in < energy out, mass decreases. There's other far more complicated factors but that's it in a nutshell. Exercise obviously helps because it increases energy out, but tons of people successfully lose mass through diet alone. Whether you're sexy afterwards is the bit where exercise really matters.

The other "more complicated" factors is what makes the statement not so "most stupidest". Yeah, you will lose weight if you put less in, but it's the "long term with no follow up" bit from my post I think you might be overlooking. Regardless, this isn't a weight loss discussion.

My complaint about this is not why lasguns kill Space Marines. The armor can only absorb and disperse so much heat.

I'm still confused as to why in Shadow War, a lasgun or even a stubber pistol literally knocks a space marine on his ass if it hits him.

Locally, we had a player who was....a notorious fantasist and teller of tall tales. One story stands out.

The FLGS owner told me a story about how a few years before, he'd set up his store in a rougher part of town, and some local tough saw a new business and tried a "be a shame if something happened to it...." protection racket thing, which was probably just bluster. He told him to get lost, then mentioned it to the player in question. This (very Caucasian) individual came back a few days later and said not to worry about , he'd had a word with his contacts in the Yakuza.

Not sure if it's so much stupid, but it's definitely rude.

Relatively early game of 8th Ed Fantasy. I'd was fielding my Ogres in a 2,250 point game against one of our local tournament fanatics - the sort that demands you adopt all their house rules because every game is Tournament Practice.

He was using his Undead, and depended on a massive block of Grave Guard with all the usual Ming.

In short? I flattened him. He wasn't prepared for large blocks of Ogres, let alone Ironguts all getting to swing, and thus vastly underestimated my damage output.

I deployed in a denied centre, figuring my best shot was to roll up his flanks, then gang up on his Deathstar.

Suffice to say, my tactic worked, and worked beautifully. He had nothing, barring the Deathstar that could stand up to horde units of Ogres. And when it comes to the crunch time, his characters were hideously out of position to get involved. Between impact hits and generally slapping the Graveguard around like a red headed stepchild, he lost the bulk of his unit in a single round of combat. His magic didn't go too well, and he didn't resurrect much.

The next round, the rest of them snuffed it.

Overall, I'd played the game quite nicely, and my tactics paid off.

His response at being taken apart by a 'bottom tier, suboptimal' list (his words!)..... You diced me.

I hadn't. I hadn't rolled much above average.

What a tool.

Ah. Yarn spinners. I have quite a few in my area. Most of them have great fables about how they went to some gaming convention and hooked up with a hot cosplay chick and had awesome sex (despite these guys not being familiar with deodorant and shampoo), or claiming to have these absurd amounts of money stashed away from some super-lucrative business deal (despite driving raggedy vehicles and having the same sneakers for 3 years), or my personal favorite- guys that come in claiming to have done all this black ops spooky-doo commando stuff in Afghanistan or Iraq (most of our players are vets, and some are 'quiet professionals').

"Well if thats the way you want to play it" (flat, deadpan voice)

Often said by the same individual during the same game whenever they are called out on shall we say an interesting interpretation of the rules, or starting to move my army as its "obvious" what they are going to do and being asked to stop, then getting tetchy when I did something else.

meh, least they started on the first turn, set up the rest of the game as "played by the rules exactly with no flexibility mode"

Awesome collection!

I got into 40k in 1999 and quickly dropped it, and resumed in 2009 and started a Praetorian Guard army. The models were OOP by that point, but I loved the look of them and was tangentially aware of the army despite not giving 40k a serious look for over a decade.

Now I have a huge Praetorian army (that even has fething Squats in it oh no!) and love it to bits even though I wasn't a player when Praets were released and that apparently makes me a Hobby Hipster.

Faux nostalgia is not the same as liking something that isn't around any more. There's my playlist on my Mp3 player, which is composed primarily of music that is either older than me or came out during a time when I was still in diapers. "I like older music" and "Guys do you remember Three Dog Night? I wish they were still around!" are two different statements. I don't pretend to be around when Three Dog Night was a thing, or act as though I remember the 1970's or have ever listened to anything other than a local emergency broadcast on AM Radio.

Also, I'm not sure you know what 'gatekeeping' or 'internet tough guys' are. If my opinion of someone is what 'gatekeeps' them out of the community, then that's one less unhinged crybaby scumming up the local FLGS. Someone's opinion of me isn't nearly enough to keep me from enjoying what I like. But then again, I wasn't raised to be a crybaby outrage fetishist.

In a thread about stupid things being said by gamers, someone feels the need to say Squats are stupid. Another person quickly resorts to claims of ruining the thread for everyone else.

The stupidest thing ever said to me by a gamer is that 40k is a game played by highly intelligent people that act like scoundrels. Feels like sometimes we are all in a race to prove the opposite is true.

It's not the Squats themselves that I find disagreeable. It's any form of false nostalgia.

When me and Big Si reminisce about say, He-Man, or the death of Optimus Prime in Transformers The Movie, it's because those were truly formative things in our mutual childhoods. When some young buck who only saw the film around the age of 15 starts going on and on and on and on and on about it, it feels like they're intruding.

People who decry Pulp, one of my favourite bands, when they've only heard the singles taken from Different Class, never having bothered exploring the rest of the back catalogue. They're saying it because they think it's controversial. When I say I can't stand Oasis because they're awful, it's because I was there. That was my era, and if I showed my Shine compilation collection, I can demonstrate Oasis were pretty awful compared to their contemporaries.

Petty, perhaps. But when it comes to 40k, I find youngsters praising Squats, Slaan and Malal don't actually have a valid frame of reference. They've never played the armies or the edition. They've just found something online to go on about.

Huh.

I just find the ideas that you can't like something that existed before you were born, or that if you do, it's "false nostalgia" to be silly. People like things! And nostalgia is just a feeling for experiencing something in a time and place. Whether you experienced it when it was new to the world, or new to only you, doesn't make it false.

I mean, I love screwball comedies from the 30's. William Powell and Carole Lombard are two of my favorite actors. I wasn't even born until 50 years after most of those movies were made. Does that mean i don't deserve to actually like them?

But it's not the same thing.

Gaming wise, Space Marine will always have a special place in my heart, because it was my first proper game, one where I scrimped and saved to add bits and bobs here and there.

That's not an experience I feel is shareable, because it's such a personal thing.

Doesn't mean newcomers can discover and enjoy it, just that they can't possibly have the same experience I did.

To flip back to Transformers the Movie. Newcomers seem to praise it for its cheesiness, and it's true status as a glorified toy advert.

But to me, it was somewhat traumatising. Optimus Prime, a key player in my learning what a hero was dies. He dies, man. And then he turns black and white. I must've been six or seven when I saw that. It was my first brush with mortality, and certainly the first time I'd seen a Good Guy actually lose. To some, the soundtrack is a good example of 80's Power Ballad Poodle Rock. To me, it's more than that. Dare and The Touch remain to this day amongst my go-to pick me up songs. They genuinely inspire me to push on and Get Stuff Done.

Squats, Malal, Slaan? All gone before my time for the most part. Certainly never faced them on the field of battle. And that's an important part of the Hobby experience. Newcomers that go on about Squats are simply apeing the passion of those who still have their force bought in the early 90's.

It's purely a personal thing, but I consider that rude.

I got one that's less insulting of the speaker's intelligence, so much as it is just a hilariously dumb thing.

Years ago we had a narrative campaign at our local store. A system had emerged from behind a warp storm and everybody was out to claim something or other there. We ran missions against each other and got points to upgrade our commanders. You could earn points by posting between-action fanfic style blurbs on the store's Facebook. It was generally very fun (I made an unbound space marines force to count as Deathwatch which I regretted the whole way through because they were each very distinct and I had to come up with increasingly outlandish excuses of how they survived each resounding defeat.

But one of our players didn't have internet, and so he trusted his friend, who liked to write, to do his blurbs for him. Problem is... his friend was a Grey Knights player, who on some level really didn't seem to understand the appeal guard players see in that army; he wrote that they were a regiment of perpetuals, that they had been engineered there by a renegade inquisitor (which,
to be fair, was who my inquisitor was chasing after) and therefore: none of the line infantry actually died. The guard player was generally patient about it, they're friends and it was all in good fun anyway, but one day he stormed into the store, completely indignant and said:

"Did he tell you what his plan was?! He wants to send my entire regiment to Grey Knight World!"

It immediately conjured images of a giant amusement park with rides and rollercoasters and grey knights lined up for cotton candy.

I'm going to chime in here with something I will never forget. While it wasn't said to me by a gamer it's no less the most hilarious thing that has ever been said to me.

I was travelling (flying) on business and had a rather elaborate Fluke process meter (very similar to a multimeter) in my carry-on luggage.

TSA Agent: "Who's bad is this?"
Me: "That would be mine."
TSA Agent: "I need to have a look inside your bag, sir."
<TSA Agent opens bag>
TSA Agent: "Wow, your meter is way bigger than my meter."

I don't think you are making a very good case for your argument here. Liking something from the past doesn't necessarily translate to "faux nostalgia" if a person becomes passionate about that thing in question. And that is the problem. You don't know exactly why someone likes what they like, you just size them up based on age and arbitrarily determine if they are "allowed" to enjoy something. That is silly.

The person in your hypothetical who wishes Three Dog Night were still around is trading on faux nostalgia? How? Maybe they just wish they could see a band they like in concert. I feel that way about Queen. Never got a chance to see them, but I love their music. That doesn't make me wish I could go back to the 70's, or that I am pretending that my liking Queen gives me insight into what living in that era was like. If given a chance I'd happily attend a Queen concert because Queen was a kickass band but since the lead singer is dead so that won't be happening. Gee, am I stealing nostalgia like others apparently steal valor?

Also, I'm not sure you know what 'gatekeeping' or 'internet tough guys' are. If my opinion of someone is what 'gatekeeps' them out of the community, then that's one less unhinged crybaby scumming up the local FLGS. Someone's opinion of me isn't nearly enough to keep me from enjoying what I like. But then again, I wasn't raised to be a crybaby outrage fetishist.

When you take it upon yourself to determine whether someone has the legitimacy to like something in the hobby you are gatekeeping. The other trouble is nostalgia seems to 'ironic' these days.

They don't like it because it's cool or something they love. They like it just because it's old.

Okay, I understand how it is different experiences. I don't understand why their experience is somehow bad or ridiculous though. You like this for one reason and they like it for another reason? Yeah, okay, great. That doesn't mean they are rude if they talk about why they liked it, and what their experience was, does it?
Personally I think that the movie that gave me the biggest traumatic experience was “The coast guard”. It was the first of many Korea movies with extreme psychological violence that I saw. It was something really huge for me at the time. But really, there is maybe like 10 people who viewed that movie as their first “violent” Korean movie (I had seen Two Sisters before but it was just not the same thing…). Do you think I should not talk about it with anyone ever, because I'm basically never going to find someone who had the same experience as me viewing it? Meh.

With your friend, that you know very well, in private? Sure, go ahead. To a stranger, that you literally only saw once before, in a public place? Don't. Just don't. You don't know them (by definition), and you don't know if they have an history of sexual abuse so just refrain.

You don't game with many drinkers. Usually, on 'boozehammer' nights, someone's going "Waaaaaugh" into a bucket or the bushes. It's pretty accurate.

I've never said someone can or can't like something. I said there's a difference in someone pretending to be a veteran and experience something, and someone liking something old or before their time.

And apparently you and I have very different standards for what makes a 'bad ass'. I'm a pretty moderate person, I just have zero qualms about handing the comments right back to someone. I don't care whose feelings it hurts. If you dish it out, learn to take it or zip your lips.

You can't be nostalgic for something you never experienced, by definition it's a longing to return to a former time in your life, not someone else's that you never experienced, though you can appreciate aspects of things of the past you will almost always be relying upon the received opinion of others viewed through rose tinted glasses and not personal experience.

It's stereotypical of hipsterism to claim to like things just by virtue of them being quirky and old, or to just be ironic and contrary for the sake of it, rather than having experienced it in its original historical/cultural context which generates genuine nostalgia.

So I agree with Mad Doc to an extent, I can't speak for individuals motives but sometimes 'false nostalgia' is a thing when young people talk about how great squats or cassette tapes and other vintage objects are.

I'm somewhat ambivalent about the whole "oldhammer" thing. I admit, there's plenty of models I liked back then that I still like, and plenty more that I didn't like at the time but that have grown on me (Delaque gangers, the old late 1st edition World Eaters, etc), but there's plenty of things I wasn't keen on back then, and they still suck now. - pretty much any Space Marine before the Strike Force box set introduced mark 7 armour, for example.

Oh, and Oasis are boring, but I can't comment on Pulp, as I only know the famous ones (which I'm not keen on either, as it happens).

Word of advice, stay away from those 40k pages on Facebook. Especially the one that claims it's 'for Grown-Ups'. That page is teeming with unhinged loons, screeching and reacting to everything in the most absurd way- they've asked for people who play German armies in Bolt Action to be banned (and those folks aren't showing off Swastikas or their models), they've banned people for something as simple as saying you don't like the idea of Female Astartes, or even telling someone politely to use thinner coats of paint or otherwise giving them critique that isn't an ass-pat and a 'good job'.

And kinda for the record, it's an unwise move to show off those 'boob' models. I'm not a fan, nor am I morally opposed to them- but showing that off in a group full of people who probably don't even play the game and are just there to piss and moan is asking for trouble. Sure, their irrational and childish reaction to it can be funny, but with a model as blatant as the Prodos models- you're just kicking the hornet's nest- even if, yes, that chick has no rationale to say it's 'disrespectful to women everywhere', because she isn't elected to dictate how other women feel about the model.

There's "I like this and I think it's cool", and there's blatant "bait and tackle".

Don't play roulette with people who'll get you banned from your facebook for 30 days. They'll spam-report you and there's very little you can do at that point. Facebook doesn't even have an 'appeal' process, and their algorithm is absurd. I should know, I've gotten a 30-day ban not long ago. Moral of the story? Just say "Transmission" when you're talking about a transmission. Even on a page talking about used trucks. Even if you have pictures of a transmission. Just type the whole word.

Probably I think a couple of months ago, I put a ban on laptops and tablets and such at the table when I we're all playing an RPG because of people getting distracted, playing Mount and Blade being the straw that broke the camel's back, I toldthe main two guys this personally. The gentleman who was playing Mount and Blade said to me"I only use it at the table because I don't have good net at my house." I stood firm on my point and was told "I won't be punished for what [other person's name here] is doing." assuming that I was upset at the guy looking up stuff on random forums or whatever. After about, probably 10 minutes of arguing, he threatened to quit, I told him to feel free, and he showed up, next session without his laptop.

This is the same guy who never brought his own dice with him, in three years of playing games with him, he always borrows dice, or has another guy bring his own dice. I have no idea, he's like 25, and worst thing about the guy seems to be ADD, he always has a backpack with him, I don't know how, in three years, he could never manage to bring his own dice. And he never has owned a book because he 'doesn't have a job' yet has bought every FFG Star Wars RPG book, and a lot of food. Apparently those don't cost money. I don't get it.

I got yelled at once for not using the term 'transmission' once when talking to my friend about an issue with my car and used the phrase 'I've got a bad "Transmission" what should I do about it?'

0/10 do not recommend.

I've met a handful that have played. Had a previous girlfriend who was interested in Fantasy, but couldn't get behind 40k. Too bro maybe.

Played against one at Adepticon years ago, and then another at a local tournament. The Adepticon one I THINK had 'nids. I might have been drunk for that game.
The local one was Sisters of Battle that I remember VERY distinctly, as she had stuck a bunch of penis shaped erasers on the ends of her minis weapons. I guess she'd had her bachelorette party the night before or something. I wish I could make this kinda stuff up.

Females are somewhat of a rarity in the 40k world though. It's maybe 5-10% of the people at Adepticon. Not proportional to gencon.

Only manchildren see a model with breasts and go "HURR DURR YOU MASTURBATE TO THAT!" Most people are mature enough to see a representation of breasts and not get sexually aroused and lose control.

Like I said, not my preference. Not something I'd spend money on.

Also not something that warrants a moral crisis, either.

Don't like the model? Don't buy it or play against someone using them. If you come emotionally unhinged at the sight of it, it's probably time to find an adult and seek professional help.

I doubt it. The average adult woman isn't an unhinged harpy that comes apart at a caricature of breasts. Only manchildren behave this way.

Most women don't play this game because quite simply- wargaming doesn't have the same appeal to them. The other reason is because of desperate neckbeards that are either flat-out pigs, or try to treat them all like delicate butterflowers that can't handle the real world.

Mine, for example, doesn't care. In her own words, "If I'm jealous of a cartoon image of a woman, I need to be institutionalized".

But this thing is a two-edged sword.

On one hand, I've seen that argument "it offends women and puts them off!". Whatever.

On the other hand, I said "the store I worked in part-time didn't care as long as there weren't kids around". Apparently, it's wrong to hide breasts from children. "They're just breasts!"

The same people made both of these arguments.

Ere go, the reason women aren't playing is because you treat them like they're more sensitive than a child.

No one should be offended by breasts. As I said, I was perfectly comfortable with my wife getting hers out in a gaming store while we gamed. I'm really nbot sure how I can treat her less like a child than that, honestly. I'm also perfectly fine with a friend who fields the old style Diaz Daemonnetes, too. They're nice models.

However, there is a bit of a difference between breasts and over-sexualizing women. Daemonnettes being topless makes sense. A naked human whose supposed to be armoured for battle...less so.

Without going too deeply into the whole psychology of the thing because 1) I only have a general knowledge of the subject and 2) I very much doubt anyone here cares, the more peoples brains are exposed to scantily clad to naked ladies to titillate, sell, the more women are registered by the same part of the brain that sees objects instead of people. There is some debate as to exactly what else occurs, but again, my understanding is limited.

Simply put, nudity done right - for a purpose that makes sense within the context of a story or character - is perfectly fine. Nudity for the sake of 'look, it has booooooobs' is less so. Mostly because the kind of people who do so tends to treat women as, you guessed it, objects.

...would you care to guess which category I think Boob and Bikini Marines fall into?

Of course, others disagree. But given the fact that Warhammer has a far lower percentage of female players than, say, Roleplaying Games or video games (at least, in my personal experience of visiting conventions designed for such - I couldn't even being to guess where you could get solid data. I suppose a survey set up on the official sites for a roleplaying game and Games Workshop with a similar fanbase size would be a start, but other factors make that imperfect) suggests there is a hiccup somewhere in there.

That's fine, she's feeding her kid.

I'm not going to gawk at a lady breastfeeding her kid. And I don't care to- I'm just grateful there's not a screaming, hungry kid somewhere being blown off so his parents can play games. That was a trend in one town I lived in, where this guy would bring his herd of kids in and most of them were too young to fend for themselves without serious adult supervision. Call it a 'grudge' if you will, call me a jerk- but for the longest time I would walk into a game shop and if I saw a handful of kids, I just walked out. Bad experiences are hard to shake off, especially when it's kids that break models, steal them, etc. and the parents neglect them. Another rant for another day, long story short- I don't care if she's double-barrel breastfeeding your kid, it's called being a parent and babies can't eat pizza.

And those old Daemonettes are fine by me. I do think it is a bit silly to have, say, a random topless SoB running around. If you were playing, say, a Slaanesh renegade army and had something like that, I wouldn't care so much.

It's a tiddy.

And at that, it's not a real one. It's a plastic, resin, or metal tiddy.

If you're getting off on it, or getting offended by it- you need to see a professional.

Look, this is obviously a subject you have strong feelings about. Instead of continuing to drag this thread off topic with the tangent, how about making a thread in the OT forum where you can continue it without further distracting this one?

So, add some of the posts in here to dumb things people say about gaming.

I mean, if that's what you read- it's not what was said. It's been clarified over and over again, but you're insisting on being offended so you might as well be.

So can we put your signature, or would you prefer your initials?

Fighting a culture war in a thread about gamers saying stupid things is ironic. Ironic on the scale of Rogue-Trader-era fluff.

Which reminds me of a game from a long time ago, when Genestealer Cults were still a new thing. Was about to play on a board with all these small buildings arranged into a grid that covered most of the board. My opponent went off about his Genestealers, how it's not possible to shoot them in this maze before they would charge my army.

When we finally got the table, I told him, since you have such an advantage, let me rearrange the terrain to give myself a chance. He said sure. So I put the buildings in a line across the middle, blocking all movement except through a small gap. Lined up all my tacs and devs so they were in front of it. Put a couple Rhinos in place to act as a door and control what could make it's way through the hole and a dreadnought to tie up the first units that got through. Proceeded to table him.

We gamers are sometimes too sure of ourselves. Nothing more stupid than that.

For the record and for anyone fortunate enough to have no idea who this Prodos company is, this is the line of models being referenced:

Spoiler:

Obviously you're an emotionally stunted hypersensitive immature manchild if you think that those are tasteless, tacky, or just plain stupid.

Oh, they're dumb models for sure. I won't argue that.

But it's hardly a moral outrage, either. I'd be more concerned that someone is wasting their money on a poor quality model like that.

I mean, Wargame Exclusive has some risque' models of much better quality if you really, really need them.

Remember the N&R thread where those were posted, where the Prodos guy tried to justify everything? Assuming that he qualifies as a gamer, 'their shoulder pads contain force field generators' might be a pretty good contender for this thread.

That or 'we care about our AvP Kickstarter backers'.

Actually, using a Lot of casino dice on a crowded table, or an excessively large tape measure, are both pretty common and legitimate problems.

You don't need a tape measure that can extend more than 10' - 12' for wargaming, and if you're rolling more than a dozen dice it's very difficult to make room for casino dice.

Obviously, there's no hard and fast rule on any of that, it all falls under gaming etiquette, but a lot of how people will react depends on how you present what you're using.

For example, when using Dakka Dice I'd always show my opponent that they were all the same ("Dakka Dakka on the 6") and never had any issues. But using a mix of custom dice with logos on the 1 and the 6 on different ones can cause legitimate problems.

Anyway, just my $0.02!

You could stop being such a hyper-sensitive pansy, but that seems unlikely, too.

I mean, if you pay close attention- I'm usually sniping back. Not my fault your forum here has been too kind to the scummiest of the lot.

Dude, sniping back is against the rule. You could stop being such an hyper-sensitive pansy and start following the rules. Or at least stop whining about being banned because of it. I'm going to get banned for the snipping back I made just above but if you get banned too it's fair lol.
(Unless I make a good roll on the Dakka Moderation Table. I heard the best result gives you a lifetime of DCM for free .)
Mainly the thing is that Dakka is very careful not to show who is banned, for how long and because of what. The result is that noone really knows what's against the rule and what's okay, and everyone feels unfairly singled out . But that's a discussion for another thread I guess.
