It's nearly here!

I was a fan of the first one, although I would have to call it a flawed gem. Hopefully the new one addresses the issues. I haven't preordered mine yet. I hope it's not too late!

That is nice of you to call Destiny 1 a gem.

Ranting - D1 was really the only game for "next gen" consoles at the time of release. The numerous holes in the game and storyline was a short coming. The DLC should've been free. I cant believe that Bungie said the D1 would last 10 years, and wouldn't have a sequel but a major DLC.

Not Ranting - The beta was fun, just as grindy as the first one. I played about 10 hours of the beta. I'm Interested to see how many thing play out, with gear and the story. I slightly agree with the masses in saying that this game feels like a polished DLC. The enemies are re skinned from the first one, and the new ones are a nice change.

I'm so exited for the launch I'm working 60 hours so I miss the launch on purpose (my clan mates will carry me, I'm a good backpack!)

My friends/clan played it into the wee morning (digital download), They loved every part of it, I cant go into detail as I wasn't playing it, but I cant wait for Saturday!

They did have some issues with the game, some stuff wasn't loading in, or would say it wasn't available. Plus the occasional disconnects from Destiny Servers.

Sounds great! I knew there would be some teething troubles but hopefully these can be overcome.

I'm sorry that I won't be able to use my character going forward (Xbox 360 copy) but it can't be helped. Actually, if all the equipment is gone, would it even matter?

The Beta really made it seem like Destiny 1 with just a touch more but the actual game is much more robust; the planet areas are much bigger, prettier, and enemies are more numerous. The story is much better told and more entertaining than the first time around but it also feels like some elements were not upgraded when they could have been. The character creation is exactly the same as it was in Destiny 1 with no new options in any way.

It definitely doesn't go cross consoles does it? My Xbox 360 character and anything they have that I might salvage will be trapped in there unless I buy a One right?

No nothing gets transferred, it stuff that's associated with your gamer tag. so if you from a xbox 360 to PS4 you lose your stuff,
but keep in mind its just an emblem or other rando stuff. Nothing game important, like if you dont transfer your character you lose the Icebreaker or Gally. its just stuff to say yeah I played D1.

It would have been nice to keep my Future Cult Emblems and Shaders and anything else but I can live without them.

I'll probably check it out at some point. Can you share your character/unlocks/whatever on the xbox or pc version like Gears or War? Would be nice. Personally I'm gonna wait for the PC version, kinda bummed it's coming a month later, but I guess consoles are where the real cash is.

wut?
been playing it for a week now and never seen any hint of timetravel.

apart from that, prolly the best shooter pve coop game on the marked right now, but it is as every1 says, it is not a new game it is an expasion for destiny 1 where they finaly fixed the game.
only sad thing is, they added a micro shop for shaders(that now is 1 time consumable)and spaceship+sparrow skins.
your not forced to buy them tough as you will get 1 cash shop engram every time you level after you hit 20. (same xp bar system as division uses when you hit max cara lv)

No. There is fast travel though on the planets, which is a nice quality of life update.

Personally, I love Destiny 2. I picked it up Saturday evening at Target while we were back-to-school clothes shopping for my girls but didn't get it to play it until Sunday morning. I played it pretty much all morning (I wake up early) until lunchtime on Sunday and then again for a little bit that evening. I was off Monday so I played it some more in the morning and then again in the evening, making it to level 20 and completing the main story line. I still have a pretty low power level (low 240s) and there's tons of more stuff to do, especially with the raid opening this week.

By the way, anyone playing on Xbox One can add me to their friends list: RoII Fizzlebeef (the l's in Roll are capital i's)

Destiny 2 @ 2017/09/13 07:13:59

Post by: Ahtman

According to Bungie the first expansion is supposed to have some element of time travel in it, either just in the story but maybe in a strike/raid, as it is about a race that screws with time a lot: the Vex. That could be where the information came about.

Destiny 2 @ 2017/09/14 06:01:12

I have put 20ish hours in D2. I only have one complaint so far they dont give you a sparrow until you reach level 20... Which I think was a way to draw out the story a little longer. The visuals and soundtrack are way better than D1.

When you load your previous character you get a little remember scene in the beginning of the game, like you did Vault of Glass for the first time with said people and so on. I think the armor is a better light level, but you get your quickly. I didnt transfer my Titan that wasn't level 20 yet (I was running 3 Warlocks and deleted one but stopped playing D1)

I would recommend if you played one, but it still has some shenanigans as the first one did, you'll see. I helped clan mate get all 3 of their characters to level 20, and didn't get sick of doing story missions.

The majority of time spent is exotic farming on Titan, getting ready for the raid. 3

My clan just merged with another in order to get more clan points (more glimmer and what not)

I would have loved to have carried my titan over. Even for small details like that. I've made an exact copy of him but it'll never be quite the same. Did you get to carry over any gear for the first bit or were you still limited to that red and white suit?

 Future War Cultist wrote:

The only thing that carries over is the visual of the character but no items or reputation levels. I watched the memory on my main from D1 but after that I made all new characters.

I think if you spent silver in D1 you got some refunded, I'm not 100% sure though.

Having a Clan is a must, which can be bad if you are a solo player. But with Bungie app and what not Clanning Up isn't hard to find.

I hate Asher with a passion, he's the only NPC I cant stand, at least there is Failsafe

Light level does not affect Crucible as level advantage is disabled.

you were probably coming out below on gunfights as you may have been using uncommon/ rare quality weapons against higher grade weapons and armour which have more perks. give yourself some time to get to those weapons and armour and you'll find yourself on a more even playground

Was just poking around youtube and saw a video where they were saying a lot of people are getting insta-banned right off the bat, because they use streaming software or overlay things that show your FPS. The game doesn't like that because it injects code or something, so they just ban people thinking it's a cheat. So if you use any of that stuff you might want to disable it for now till they get their act together.

Looks like Yakface handed over the DakkaDakka Destiny clan to me .. so if anyone wants to join feel free, here is the URL

https://www.bungie.net/en/ClanV2?groupid=1349730

I don't really play often, so if anyone else wants to run it, let me know. I'll check the clan page periodically to accept anyone who requests to join or whatever.

Also I only play on PC now, not Xbox, but it looks like you can join a clan no matter what platform you are on, since my old xbox account is still listed as a member too.

Not sure what perks clans get but it looks like our XP bar is about ready to hit the next level.

I have been trying to get a Field Justice (Hakke Scout Rifle) since the console launch and still have not gotten one. Even with fixed perks RNG is still fairly cruel and makes the game not nearly as much fun over the long run.

There is a spot in your inventory that the clan item goes in and if you mouse over it it should say what the perks are. Also remember when the quarterly update happens (they are calling it "Seasons" to make it sound nicer) clan xp is reset back to 0. If you cap out the clan xp you get a special banner and that carries over through Seasons.

I think it is 5000xp per character so if someone has three characters and maxes their contribution they would put 15k a week toward it.

I leveled up the clan to level 2 last night, just gives a little cash bonus. I don't think it's going to make it to level 3 with just me playing though

Enjoying the game quite a bit though. Looks great on my ultrawide monitor, but kinda bummed I can't get it to play on my TV. I have an extra long HDMI cable running to the TV, and most games have a video setting where I can select which monitor to play on, but D2 doesn't allow that :( I can change my primary monitor in Windows, but that gets to be a hassle to do that every single time I start the game.

I’ve been attempting to play it again despite my gakky internet but it’s tough. I’m on my way to

.

Also is it true that if you didn’t load a guardian character from Destiny 1 the story assumes that you’re not the young wolf? That would bug me a lot. I had to go from Xbox 360 to PS 4 so I have that ‘break’ in the story. I couldn’t get rise of iron either. :(

Ah yes, none of the original content was on PC. Only D2 stuff is.

There’s another thing bugging me. The friendly fallen captain from the mission ‘the enemy of my enemy’? Not realising their significance, I killed them. Now I’ve missed out on that little easter egg.

Still, Curse Of Osiris looks pretty good!

For anyone interested, I'm gathering members of my clan (on PC) for the Raid tonight at about 9:00ish EST. We still have open slots for one or two people if anyone from Dakka wants to tag alone. I'm going to be teaching the raid mechanics, so if you don't know them here's a chance to learn. EDIT: I am requiring discord from my members as communication is really important for most of the Raid. I can send an invite to anyone from Dakka who wants to come.

I could probably be there, never did a raid before. I'm level 20, but I haven't finished the main storyline yet if that matters.. I think my light or whatever is around 230. Don't know if that's good or noobish or if it matters.

Destiny 2 @ 2017/11/08 22:31:25

I think you have to finish the Storyline for the Raid to be available (you need the quest to even go there). The minimum light level for the raid however is 270. 260 can probably cut it.

So I’ve discovered one consequence of not uploading your old D1 character...you and your ghost have no idea who the Taken are. It’s weird hearing that despite being the guy who killed Oryx.

I worked on my old d1 character for three years. It feels wrong to abandon them but I can’t justify getting an Xbox 1 just on this basis.

Destiny 2 @ 2017/11/29 19:21:57

It feels like they fixed a lot of issues, but still left some glaring ones in this edition. The multiplayer random drop events are a big win, no more gear for different classes in your random loot, and some form of 'random' sync up for harder difficulties is nice.

The downside that the Leviathan/Cabal post game level is impossible as a single player, and it does not have an easy 'jump into a game' mode, effectively requiring you to have a pre-ordained group to play it. I also don't care for the fact that despite being 279 light, it never feels like it. No matter how high you scale, it never gets "easier" per say. You should be able to reach a point where you just cruise through things, but the random world baddies never go to 'easy'. You need the light to hang in there on levels, but running a level 100 or 140 mission never hits cruise control.

Depends on how much of a completionist you are I think. Lots of activities only take 10-15 minutes to do, and by and large eventually everything you can do gives equal quality rewards. You might have to do more public events to get a better gear piece but you can do those faster than a raid. Time invested for reward is pretty evenly paced imo so while a casual player might not get everything done they can get done the things they want to get done, you know? Some weapons are definitely better than others, and there's lots of RNG on loot rewards (and lots of duplicate items), but the story is basically one long tutorial and it hands you a lot of decent gear that will serve you well even if it isn't top of the line min-max stuff. Some special events might be disappointing (Iron Banner and Faction Rally require lots of grinding and some luck to get everything you want quick), but I find the game very friendly towards the kind of player who logs on for maybe an hour or two a night and just does their daily's and weekly's and moves on.

I'd warn that the game, while actually functioning well on PC on a system level, lacks of a lot basic QOL features. The menus are clearly designed with consoles in mind when it comes to inventory and bank space, in game chat is limited to whispers (in game chat is on the to do list according to the devs), and the game needs much better LFG features (you can use the phone app, or the Bungie "Find a Fireteam" website to group with people but those are outside the game itself).

The game is also clearly designed for people who want to buy the DLC releases. When Curse of Osiris dropped earlier this week most of the End Game activities had their level requirements raised to the new level cap and thus out of reach of people who don't have the DLC.

Destiny 2 @ 2017/12/08 12:20:52

Post by: Maddok_Death

The campaign is 7 hours long, and the remaining tasks are basically a grind fest to get better gear for better light level.

The story continues kind of with mission when on patrol the Orange missions. Strikes are fun every now and again.

But really challenging stuff like Raids and Nightfalls is where you have a higher chance of getting better loot, but you could be playing 6+ hours.

For a casual gamer I wouldn't suggest it unless you have a casual gaming group to play with.

Destiny 2 @ 2017/12/08 12:39:46

Post by: LordofHats

I would disagree. Once you hit a certain point the only things that increase your level are your weekly's, exotics, and the assured max level drop for completing the raid. You can hit the max without ever touching either Raid or Nightfall, and all you'll really miss out on are raid weapons and armor (which are admittedly good but not so good they're must haves).

They didn't in Destiny 1, but they did lock Playstation "exclusive" content away into the paid DLCs despite it being in the base game.

I brought my previous character forward and Ghost still asked Ikora that...because it's not so much him asking "what a warmind is" but rather "which warmind is that".

So the Raid Lair is fun. Funner than the raid at least. It's nice to have a touch challenging fight without the fear that the slightest error will instantly result in a wipe XD

I got the update, played a few missions so far, but I dunno... it's not as fun as the main story was. I don't get that OMGMUSTPLAYNOW feeling anymore. I think I hit that same point I get to with every game, whenever I finish the main story the game turns to meh. I think the only one I played a lot of multiplayer afterwards was Mass Effect 3, most other games I try it for a bit and then a week or so later I'm playing something else instead.

I agree that the story wasn't as compelling but what killed it for me was how the RNG was this time around. For some reason it just feels kind of fruitless. It also has trouble with giving you things you already have as well. Playing with friends is still fun and honestly I probably wouldn't play it solo at this point.

So to be clear, they were blocking content people had already paid for and had been using until they forked over more money?

Correct.

And even then, you can still be locked out of activities(Iron Banner and Nightfall) because you do not have the DLC.

It didn't effect me since I got the season pass, but still a poopy thing to do for folks that don't. Really dumb shenanigans to pull right now in light of all of the recent EA Star Wars drama. Next thing ya know they're gonna announce brand new superior in every way Finecast loot boxes for Overwatch.

I heard Curse Of Osiris was a bit of a let down? My copy keeps crashing so I’ve been out of the loop for a month now.

Well, I grabbed a copy of the main game last week, and signed up with [Daka].
I'll try to get more time in this week.

It doesn't really feel like it adds all that much to the game beyond the short story quest that doesn't change much of anything to the overall. The free update that made it so you can buy armor/weapons from vendors was a bigger sea change.

not realy a let down, but not worth the price. mercury is nothing but a pitstop for the dlc story. nothing else to do in that zone exept a heroic replay every day.
only thing posetive that came from it was the 3 man heroic strikes, cuz normal strikes are pointless to play after you pass 260.

More stuff is always nice, but I cant help but feel that Curse could have been much more than it is. The patrol zone is really quite small and there's not a lot to do. The "time travel" aspect could have been developed a lot more as well(past, present and future patrol zones would have been cool) But its limited to the story and the repetitive adventures.

If you didn't like Destiny 2 before, then the DLC didn't really add anything to make you like it more. On a whole the biggest problem I have with it is the wasted opportunity. We could have visited the ruined fortress of the Sun Breakers or you know other stuff to fill a patrol zone on Mercury, and the Infinite Forest is horribly underutilized for such a flexible concept.

I didin't expect much so it wasn't a total waste. Wish I could use my sparrow on mercury...

Huge story or even level misses with the DLC, Like doing stuff in D1 like fight Krota with you at a higher light level so not a raid level but a strike or something like that.

I feel like bungie doesn't want to give us all the content and gives it too us at a snails pace to keep us looking at whats new. Like this week and the rally event why not make it all the time?

The overall game play and feel I get from D2 is its better than 1 but not by much.

That's also my summary of the current faction event. It really didn't add much to the game-- a single fancy armor set for each faction, and a single new weapon to be released depending on which faction wins (which sucks for the other factions).

All it really did was finally motivate my fire team of friends to do a nightfall strike again and find out we're way better at the game than the last few times we tried it.

It is better than 1, but there is still stuff that should have matchmaking as a default, such as the Leviathan.

Matchmaking int he raid would be a nightmare, especially the way it's currently designed where coordination is really the only challenge and the margin for error can be near zero. Why Nightfall doesn't have a matchmaker is beyond me. It's not that hard even on prestige. What should be in game is an LFG feature. I have no idea why you have to go to the website/use the app to put a group together. That's just a glaring design flaw imo.

Or that you can't pick what type of Crucible you want or being able to choose which Strike you do. I don't like having to hope I get Control and up getting Supremacy four times in a row and then a Clash match.

I played 9 hours of Forsaken, beat the first part of the story. It was a decent story not a bunch of go to this planet then this one which is good. I didn't really feel anything at the end though almost like well that's it. I'm excited to unlock the other supers, but it seems like its Escalation protocol type event, hopefully finding groups on the app wont be bad.

I thought the ending was kind of out of left field, but mostly I'm annoyed that with Cayde gone, the game's cast is utterly boring save for Fail Safe. I was never that into the game's lore, but the lack of interesting characters is rather stark without the cloud cookoolander dragging everyone behind him.

With the exception of Nightstalker and Striker all the new Sup-Classes are pretty absurd jumps in power. Knife throwing Gunslinger barely needs their guns, and the super completely outclasses Golden Gun in pretty much all situations. Dawnblade and Sentinel are getting some cheesy results in Raid content

The random rolls aren't something I'm super excited about. Agitating feature but oh well. At least armors now have some variety to them other than cosmetics.

Im interested to see if they do a Destiny 3, I can see the story continuing with another enemy attacking earth, and so-on.

I play mainly at night from 9pm to 4am so most of my friend are offline, or the main fire team (5 of us on weekends) cant get enough people to do the raid. So unfortunately I haven't done any raids yet.

I feel like the new menu updates and so on are a repeat of D1 and its 2nd year update, a big change to grab more people to play their lame a** game. I unfortunately sold all my resources trying to get more legendary shards, so upgrading stuff is a pain and spending shard to buy resources is a waste.

I haven’t gotten forsaken yet but I will asap. I would also love to team up with folks here if that’s possible. Always looking to do Nightfall, and I’ve never completed a full raid either. Only that quick version.

There will be a Destiny 3 cause Bungie has a three game contract with Activision-Blizzard. Probably 2020 is my bet. They’ll do another big expansion in 2019 and then prep for the third game’s launch. Of course I think their story is really weak right now even though the lore is promising. They apparently rewrote the story halfway into D2s production which would explain why it’s so disjointed most of the time.

As for anyone who wants to do Nightfall and Raid let me know in a PM. I’m more than willing to Sherpa if your playing on PC. Same for Escalation Protocol and Nightfall though Nightfall might be a bit because of the new power level minimum.

Make sure you complete whatever weeklies you can today. They’re doing a soft reset tomorrow.

I've just started getting back into Destiny 2 because it's free on PS+ at the moment. I completed the main story when it was released and was debating getting the first 2 expansions (can't afford Forsaken at the moment). Are they any good, because I've heard mixed things about them

Warmind was good imo. Curse of Osiris is a hill of wasted potential and mostly dull content additions.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Honestly I wouldn't buy their at this point. Foresaken has made most Year One gear of little (bordering on no) value except for the exotics and most of the best exotics are still base game items. I'd save for Forsaken (unless you need the first two DLCs to actually get past level 20 in which case you don't have much choice I'm not sure how that works), though you're in for a grind to reach the Light/Level needed to start Forsaken content.

Destiny 2 @ 2018/09/09 17:59:25

The PS store says both expansions are needed to play Forsaken sadly. I guess it makes sense because Bungie/Activision would want people to buy all the DLCs, but it kind of sucks if Forsaken makes previous DLC content obsolete.

My old character is already level 20, so hopefully it wont take me too long to get through the old DLCs and pick up Forsaken when I get paid at the end of the month

Destiny 2 @ 2018/09/09 18:01:36

It would make sense.

Curse of Osiris and Warmind are fairly short. 3-4 hours for each. There's a bunch of other stuff there but I wouldn't bother with them save for the Sleeper and the Ikelos weapons from the Warmind Expansion. Unless your a completionist in which case go ham and have fun.

I think Forsaken adds enough new things to make Destiny 2 interesting for awhile again. I've mostly just played the Strikes between the DLCs and Forsaken adds 3 new strikes (4 if you are Xbox player like me... had to wait 1 year for the ps4 exclusive strike to appear... :( ).

The new area, Reef, is great addition to the game.

Also, I've had much fun using the new Bow. It's my main weapon now. I don't miss my Scout rifle at all...

Grinding for the weapons/armour is back, big time. But I don't mind. It's something to aim for. Welcome change to the three weekly strikes I was doing not a long ago. Now I'm playing more again.

Never been on a Raid, so not interested what the new Raid is, but I guess that's something for others to look forward to.

Curse took me 6 hour to beat, alone and being of level. Warmind took a little longer with friends. Forsaken until you get to the dreaming city is 7+ by yourself.

Curse takes a long time because of what you have to do, the mission you can run through easily. Warmind you have to do the missions, but they are do able by yourself and all the fluff is side mission which is nice.

Gambit is a huge plus makes PVP fun. Getting all 3 supers unlocked takes the story, the Well, and the Raid for each character. This raid seems week sauce in comparison to the others. (I've only watched videos)

All events are easy to get people to play with the destiny app. I play PS4 SUN-TUE from ~9pm to ~4am same name on PSN Maddok_Death if people need help, I've still got to do my Titan on Forsaken, and this week is Iron Bonners so Crucible madness!

No, not from Destiny 1 to Destiny 2, as your character lost everything (in-game) during that transition. This only allows you to take your same characters and play them on PS4, XBone and PC without having to have separate accounts (and therefore separate characters) for each platform.
